Title-Breaking The Barrier: The Jackie Robinson Story

Lead Actor-Denzel Washington ($125,000)

Lead Actress-Kerry Washington ($30,000)

Supporting Actors- Cuba Gooding Jr. ($75,000), Jensen Ackles ($20,000)

and Robert DeNiro ($200,000)

Supporting Actress- Mila Kunis ($30,000)

Director - Darren Aronofsky ($125,000)

Genre-Drama

Plot- In this film we follow the life of Jackie Robinson (Denzel Washington) growing up as the youngest of five children and being raised in a single parent household as his father left his family only a year after Jackie was born so the family moved out to Pasadena, California as his mother worked odd jobs to support the family. Jackie and his family lived in relative poverty in otherwise affluent community. Jackie and his minority friends were excluded from many sports related activities which lead to Robinson joining a gang only for a friend to convince him out of it. His brothers Mack (A future Olympian) and Frank convinced Jackie to pursue his interests in sports where Jackie would go on to letter in football, baseball, track and basketball. He would play shortstop and catcher on the baseball team, quarterback and safety on the football team and guard on the basketball team. Jackie would go onto attend Pasadena Junior College where Robinson continued to show athletic prowess but an incident at the college would illustrate Jackie’s impatience with authority figures he considered racist where he would be arrested after vocally disputing the arrest of one of his friends. Near the end of his time at PJC his brother, Frank who Jackie was the closest with was killed in a motorcycle accident. This event would motivate Robinson to pursue an athletic career at UCLA. Robinson would meet his future wife, Rachel Isum (Kerry Washington) at UCLA Robinson would again show his athletic prowess before being drafted into the military to serve his country in World War II but it would never happen due to him confronting the investigating officer if he was racist as Robinson would be honorably discharged in November 1944. In early 1945 Robinson would sign a contract with the Negro Leagues, Kansas City Monarchs even though Robinson had success he was disgusted with the disorganization and the gambling interests. Robinson would pursue a tryout by the Boston Red Soxs where they only using the players to assuage Boston City Councilmen Isadore Muchnick. Robinson was subject to racial epithets, he left humiliated. However other teams made serious interests in signing black players as Branch Rickey (Robert DeNiro) began to scout the Negro Leagues where he would interview Robinson where Rickey asked Robinson if he could take the racial animus without taking the bait and Robinson responded “Are you looking for a Negro who is afraid to fight back?” Rickey responded that he need a Negro player “with guts enough not to fight back.” Where he would get a commitment from Robinson to “turn the other cheek” to racial antagonism where Rickey would sign Robinson to a contract. In early 1946 Robison and Isum would get married, more racial issues followed as he was not allowed to stay with his Triple A teammates at their hotel instead he stayed at the home of a black politician. Also local stadiums would not allow the Dodgers to use their facilities if Robinson and another black player were not involved. Eventually Robinson would breakthrough the color barrier six days before the 1947 Major League Season. Robinson would eventually get support by Harold “Pee Wee” Reese (Jensen Ackles) and his wife Dorothy (Mila Kunis), he would eventually be joined on the Dodgers by star pitcher, Don Newcombe (Cuba Gooding Jr.)which eventually would lead to the Dodgers winning the 1954 World Series after an unsuccessful 1956 season Robinson would official announce his retirement in “Look” magazine. We close the movie with looks of other Black Major league players such as Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and so on as well as Major League Baseball’s honoring of Jackie with Jackie Robinson Day.

<p>Okay - I went through and added actors and fixed prices.</p><p> </p><p>

Only did the last 15 pages of the thread (on the fifteen posts per view mode), so I can't verify that everything is up-to-date, but I stopped seeing things to change/people to add around that point.</p><p> </p><p>

From this point forward, please refer to the link in mad's post for actor/director costs (and notes).</p><p> </p><p>

I'll plan to read through the reviews as they're posted and update the field (if you are a reviewer and you update it yourself, post a quick note, and I'll save myself the time).</p>

Their back and forth banter was quite strong and helped pushe the movie forward. Unsurprisingly, Tito Ortiz seemed lost in his role, as did (surprisingly) Tom Hardy. While the premise of the film was quite strong, the film did not spend enough time fleshing out character motivations and perspectives. This likely hurt the actors involved in the picture. Peter Jackson was also influenced by the event and not-character driven plot, as he struggled to make the different parts of the movie flow and transition into each other. The lack of a female character in the film was also notable and the film, at times, spiraled into an uncomfortable juvenile masculinity-fest.</p><p> </p><p> All said, most sci-fi and action film fans will probably enjoy <strong>Drain</strong>. Early box office numbers suggest that the film is not likely to do well with other audiences. More attention on character development, a stronger cast, more production money (given the "epic" nature of the film), and the inclusion of some sort of element for female viewers would have likely bolstered both the rating and revenue of the film. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rating:</strong> 1.5 out of 5</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Revenue:</strong> 2,750,000</p><p> </p><p> Rose Red Productions now has <strong>1,375,000</strong>. </p><p> </p><p> Borderline Productions now has <strong>6,375,000</strong>. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Effects:</strong> </p><p> </p><p> Tito Ortiz will now work for 15,000.</p><p> Tom Hardy will now work for 90,000.</p>

Genre- Superhero/Action

Plot-

After meeting the Blue Flame, as the media has dubbed him, Jill Jones is convinced there must be other heroes in the world. She shuts down her Alien Conspiracy website and opens one dedicated to finding these other heroes. Within days, Jill receives numerous tips about strange people around the globe. One tip from Chicago catches her eye. We zoom in to see an article in the Chicago Tribune entitled "Who is the Night Fox?"

We then see The Night Fox (Joseph Gorden Levitt) beating up some thugs who were trying to steal computers from a warehouse. We witness The Night Fox fighting in a kick boxer style while also using a pair of tonfa that have a point on the end instead of being rounded. The Night Fox kills all of the thugs save one. He tells the thug to take a message to his boss…

We then meet the mayor of Chicago, Jon Davis (Michael Cain) yelling at the chief of police (Matthew Fox) to put an end to the vigilante justice of Night Fox. The chief admits he still has nothing to go on but he will put his best men on it. The mayor yells some more and spills his coffee as the Chief of Police leaves…

We now catch up to Jill whose car is broken down on Lake Shore Drive. A tow truck pulls up and we see a guy with the name patch Alan (Joseph Gorden Levitt) step out. Jill explains the problem as she knows it, a loud clunking noise, and Alan hooks it up to his truck and offers Jill a ride which she accepts. In the truck Jill and Alan make small talk and eventually Jill asks if Alan knows about the Night Fox. Alan feigns ignorance which Jill doesn’t seem to buy.

We then see the thug from earlier walk into an office where a man named Shawn Aiten (John Malkovic) is going over some documents. Next to Shawn is a man dressed in muy thai gear with a cat tattoo across his chest (Tony Jaa) who we learn is Shen Kuei, aka The Cat. The thug removes his shirt and we see a message carved in his chest, “You’re Next Shawn!” Shen then kills the thug with a knee to the face that pushes his nose into his brain. Shawn then tells Shen to “Bring me the Night Fox’s head!”

We change to Jill looking at her laptop when a message pops up. Jill takes off and we see the message read “Night Fox spotted in Humbolt Park.” Jill takes a cab to the park where she doesn’t see Night fox but we do. Jill is about to get mugged when Night Fox saves her. Night Fox asks why she is there and she answers… “I wanted to meet you.” Night Fox then takes off, but before he disappears he tells Jill, “We’ve met, now forget me and go home!” Night Fox leaves into the night. We then see Shen was watching the whole time…

Alan has finished fixing Jill’s car and he calls her but hears a strange message from Shen. It says that whoever hears it should contact the media and let them know Jill was taken by The Cat and he will kill her if Night Fox doesn’t meet him in Humbolt Park tonight at midnight. Alan takes off and we see him change into his Night Fox outfit and head over to the park to wait for Shen.

We then have a huge fight scene between Shen and Fox with Jill and Shawn watching from a car nearby. It quickly begins to rain and the fight rages on, culminating with Shen being impaled by Night Fox on his tonfa. Shawn then picks up a walkie and tells his men to open fire and we see several thugs appear from hidden locations and they begin to fire. Night Fox avoids the gunfire and takes the thugs out. Shawn’s car takes off and Night Fox chases after him. Night Fox catches his car and pulls Shawn out. Night Fox then impales Shawn up against a wall through the heart. Jill thanks Night Fox and tells him “I’m glad it’s over” to which Night Fox responds, “It’s never over…”

We then see the mayor reading an article written by Jill that was published in the Tribune about the Night Fox. As the mayor puts the paper down we see Jake Blane (Josh Brolin) standing there. He tells the mayor he may have a solution to the Night Fox problem…

We had several Making OF: Night Fox documentaries on Syfy and HBO.

Jaguar Den Studios studios returns with Night Fox, another superhero flick in the "Jaguarverse" (see Blue Flame). This film, directed by Joss Whedon and staring Joseph Gordon Levitt, John Malkovic, Emma Roberts (reprising her role from Blue Flame) had the potential to much stronger in principle than Blue Flame, as the Night Fox film takes more of a "Batman/Daredevil" approach to the genre and therefore rquires less big money investment. Despite the change in scope and focus of the film, this reviewer can't help but feel as though Jaguar Den has again skimped out on Production costs, as the film comes across as somewhat cheaply made, especially for a superhero action flick.

Levitt does an adequate, albeit somewhat underwhelming, job as a the lead hero, while Emma Roberts seems to have found her home in the Jill Jones role and knocks the film out of the park. John Malkovic is also superb as the film's primary antagonoist. Roberts and Malkovic, bolstered by a strong supporting cast and the cameo appearance of Josh Brolin, help to overcome some of the film's production difficulties.

In the end, Night Fox is simply a better film than the Blue Flame and, with more money thrown in its direction, had the potential to be an excellent film.

Rating: 3.25 out of 5

Revenue: 2,561,600

Jaguar Den now has 2,719,600.

Effects:

Emma Roberts now expects 60,000 to appear in films.

Emma Roberts rather enjoys the role of Jill Jones and will work this role again for 45,000.

John Malkovic now expects 55,000 to appear in films.

Tony Jaa now expects 25,000 to appear in films.

Joss Whedon now expects 135,000 to direct films.

The film industry is still waiting on a big budget superhero blockbuster.

Twist of Fate Productions, in association with Ascending Numbers Productions, hit the theaters with Breaking the Barrier: The Jackie Robinson Story, a sports drama detailing the life of Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson's story is a natural fit for film and therefore the movie hits on all the appropriate bases. Denzel Washington does an excellent job as Jackie Robinson and, in fact, is likely to be in discussion for the Oscars. The only hiccup in his performance is his age - Washington, now nearly 56, was hard to sell as a Jackie Robinson in earlier stages of the film.

The supporting cast is strong as well (though not as strong as Washington) and the film's only hiccup is the selection of Aronofsky as director, as he seemed to over and under-dramatize certain elements of the film and tried to make the film more of a psychological journey into the states of discrimination, oppression, and resistance, and less of a simple narrative on an important figure in baseball history. Fortunately for film goers, Washington resisted some of this direction and pushed the film forward on his own.

Rating: 4 out of 5

Revenue: 4,553,000

We can't/don't all read every post in the thread and the mods are the only ones who can know who should actually be up there for awards anyways. A vote on the best/luckiest of the week (or fortnight/month) from the players once the field is narrowed down is probably easiest. And every week for awards might be too frequent too, especially if you ever want a weekend off. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></p>

If your directly involved with something your going to remember more about it, so if you play a Mafia game you will probably remember your enjoyment. But I am sure lots of people don't read every film posted in here in detail (or possibly at all) due to time constraints, and I seriously doubt your going to remember every film you do read.</p><p> </p><p> Again, could just be me.</p>

Maybe in future when we work out/decide how much the licensing fees would be. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></p>
