Diary Preview And Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

I expected some sense of a response like this, to be honest. I get the feeling about the LAX Wrestling thing and I must say that I was not "thinking of another project" when I created that one. That was my focus. I was watching a lot of Lucha Underground and had copious amounts of time through the night (as I had night duty with my boy). I wanted to do something new for me and that's why I created a whole new roster. I truly enjoyed to see what people created.

I don't see my posts as grandstanding. Why? This is a "diary preview and question" thread; so, I tend to write out my thoughts to see what others think? I use it as a way to put my thoughts on paper/internet and talk it through with those who've liked my projects before. So, since I've done it a few times, am I supposed to not reach out and ask my readers what they think? It's not to grandstand or promote myself. It's to ask what others think and if they'd be interested.

I guess I've rubbed people the wrong way over the years or something. Am I perfect? Not at all. I'm just a guy who likes to write and uses GDS as my place to do so. I'm a creature of inspiration and, if I don't feel inspired, I look to find something that does. That's what happened with my SWF projects (I found my niche). I don't expect everyone to "love me" or my work. I also don't expect for everyone to always think I'm doing something "great." We're all human beings and, in doing so, we have opinions/feelings about anything that comes up before us. I guess, for me, I'm just wondering why, whenever I attempt to do something, I tend to get a blowback from at least a person or two? It's not a normal blowback though. It's like actual annoyance... anger... dismissive...

Whenever I start a project, I end up with a number of people who rate my projects super low (1 star) straight out of the gate. It's not the worst thing in the world but it's still something that makes a creative writer think... "Is this where I want to spend my time... If people are turned off by me straight out of the gate?"

Sorry if I went over the top here. This is just something I've been thinking for a while and, normally, it just slides off. That said, after a busy/tough/overwhelming week of teaching, I felt my openness to be somewhat low.

First, Having read statements on the matter, I do believe there will not be a new edition of TEW -- Adam seems to have moved onto other things. That is one of the [many reasons] I originally embarked on creating a "future mod".

Second, I enjoy you posting in the Preview Thread, it is a good way to get feedback on a potential project. I've posted ideas [and projects] here I never intended to start, to [greg] gauge interest in them, and this thread is an invaluable tool for doing so. It supports and attracts other viewers to the board.

I understand where you're coming from. Angel's diaries suffered from the same 1-star problem, even though [on-average] they lasted longer than the average diary. There is an "old-school" mentality that "diaries should last X amount of months" and considerable repercussions if people are perceived to "stop-and-start" projects. It seems to be on a "reputation" basis and not based in any factual metric, and it is applied inconsistently.

I think a "monthly" or "bi-monthly" show schedule would help you -- it is something I have to think about as I've entered a new phase of my life as well [though not nearly as hectic as yours!]. It's understandably difficult to juggle heading a family, working on academic projects and teaching while attending graduate schools, and it take a lot of mental fortitude to handle those responsibilities.

As [someone who fancies himself] a writer, I view both the board, the community and the game itself a means to "sharpen my skills", to get better at writing. The quality of the writers here, including you, is incredible, and the community is extremely enthusiastic. That being said, the only way to improve is criticism, so it is important we analyze and dissect each others work -- I think some here are too sensitive.

On the "above project": I would use the save game, but I don't think it would get widespread use, simply because long-term simulation rarely produces realistic results. It was a critique I faced making my 2015 project.

I'd recommend developing a 2016 Mod in lieu of starting a diary for the project. It is something I've currently embarked on [and completed a Beta as part of a previous project], and it "flexes" my creative muscles well. It allows you to give insight to a number of separate characters and multitude of short, detailed writing prompts to work with. It can be a long project, sure, but there are guides and people willing to help fill in areas you don't know what to do with. The LAX characters could be incorporated as future "debuting wrestlers" in the mod itself, taking them back to "original" regions they represent.

If you need help/advice, I'm always here, and others who have worked on such a project are happy to help. With either a future game save or a 2016 mod, the release will face significant criticism -- everyone has their own "idea" of how the C-Verse works, and it is impossible to please everyone. The good news is, many individuals have tried this before and can help you deal with the harder times.

Huh? All Adam's said is that he's taking the year off (unless I've missed something MAJOR). Are you maybe reading WAY too deep into things?

It's possible. There are a few other threads (I think) support my point, but this seems to be an overall good indicator that it may not happen, or if it does, it may be a long time coming (2017).

With WAR being a possibility down the line here, I'm leaning toward doing the same thing once again by having a created roster. It makes things more 'interesting' when it comes to having 'originals' that are unique to the cornellverse. Unlike LAX Wrestling though, there really isn't a 'niche' I'm looking for in wrestling talent this time around (which opens things up). Plus, I'm thinking of opening up submissions with female wrestlers too (allowing you to create one male and one female). The roster is small; so, I don't expect there to be much more than 15 male wrestlers and maybe around 4-5 female wrestlers.

I bring this up because I want to know if anyone would be interested in doing this kind of idea once again. Yes, some may feel 'burned' due to LAX Wrestling and that's totally okay with me (as in that I understand and wouldn't hold it against anyone). If there isn't as great of a showing this time around then I'll just fill the remaining spots of the roster in with existing wrestlers.

I'm thinking I'll follow the same submission process as before. That said, I may make it a little tougher on the company (as I feel our roster was SO talented in LAX Wrestling... Which made it harder to believe these wrestlers 'weren't discovered already'. I'll see how that goes though).

I've created a poll to see what your thoughts are on WAR...

I'm looking into possibly starting a dynasty. It would be a real world database but I'm wanting to get the most interest as possible. I did a fairly successful dynasty with TEW 2010 and then 13 was released which brought an end to it. That mod was with WCW 2000.

I don't think I want to do 1994. There's already a couple of those. I'm currently doing a single player WCW 2001 mod and am not interested in that for a dynasty. I'd be interested in 1999 but there's not any mod for that. What are some suggestions from you guys on what you'd like to see?

...Man I'm sad to see LAX killed off because I was a huge fan...your other stuff was great but this one I was genuinely engaged in. It wasn't the fact you didn't know how to go about doing a women's division was it?

I mean, I get why you're doing it, sometimes the urge to just stop and start afresh is too much but it just feels like every six months or so, you've got a this urge and a great "new" idea that you're going to start with and that means leaving the thing you're currently working on to one side. It all just feels...kinda cheap to me, especially since with LAX you got the whole community involved. To me, this feels a bit like saying "thanks for your creations. I appreciate it but I've decided that I'm going to just completely ignore them to do my own thing". I know that isn't 100% the case with this as you've gotten a fair distance into LAX and you've featured the community sourced characters quite a bit but the feeling of both turning your back on the community creations and the quick turnaround in ideas still remains especially since from cradle to now it's only really been four months that LAX has been up and running.

....Yea I'm pretty bummed out about this. A bunch of people went as far as changing their avatar's into their creations and you had a very engaged audience. A story without resolution is especially painful and doesn't get people too excited about the next project. It's very similar when your watching your favorite Television series and the network pulls the plug on it in the middle of the series and there is no conclusion. You are just left with a cliff hanger and always wondering what if....(Heroes, My Name is Earl and now LAX)

I understand entirely, K-Nection. Truly, I do. It was not an easy decision to take a step back and say "Honestly, look at what you're doing here... are you really engaged?" After a week of it mulling in the back of my head, I came to realize that writing LAX Wrestling became somewhat of a job for me. It's a great concept, and had some awesome characters, but I found that my 'connection' to lucha-styled wrestling (which came from my summer watching Lucha Underground) had waned and my overall interest in the project as a whole felt rather forced.

With working 55+ hours a week as a teacher, being a father for the first time, and attempting to get some semblance of sleep amongst all of that, I found myself to be very blunt with myself. Do I continue with something that feels forced? What am I really benefiting from by doing that (as I'm often writing during my lunch break at school -- versus doing something else like relaxing or grading).

I'll admit, and have much of my writing career here, I'm a creature of inspiration. Now, do I start and stop a lot? Over my time here, you could say that. I do have; however, a 2 year project with SWF and a 14 month project with the original WAR. If you ask me, I believe those projects have shown that if I can really "connect" with my writing, I'm willing to keep it going for quite some time.

WAR presents a form of wrestling that interests me (and always has). It's not a niche product really. It's a tougher brand with a respect for the sport & aggressive competition. I always tend to find myself searching for that in the real world (and never really finding it). If I had more time on my hands, I would even entertain TCW (the only company I have not booked) but I know that I don't have the time to devote to SO much TV/PPV time a month (in-game).

Honestly, I apologize to anyone who feels slighted by this movement. It's not like I don't care or don't realize your feelings on the matter. I mean, truthfully, why would a writer EVER want to piss off their readers? You're pretty much setting yourself up to write in a vacuum after that. That's not my intention. All I can say is, I WANT to continue to contribute to the GDS world; however, need to do so with a company/brand/story that truly pulls me in or else I'll ultimately fade off into nothingness.

<hr color="black">Those of you who would be interested in a WAR project (possibly creating characters for it), visit the survey link below in which to leave behind your thoughts. There's a clear cut vision to the company; however, I'm one who's very open to great thinkers coming together.

There are two 99 mods for TEW2010 if you'd be willing to convert them:

http://greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152810

I haven't been too successful with conversions because I usually end up with a run time error. I haven't done one in a long time though. I may look into that, thanks for the suggestion! I just want to find one where not many people have done it. I may look into an alternate verse too.

<p>Weird question. While I'm trying to set up everything for the reincarnation of my APW diary (which takes way longer than I would've expected), I'd really like to try something else. There's a mobile game called 80's Mania Wrestling that seems to be pretty funny because it's very lightweight and features zany characters. I'd like to make a diary about this game, but obviously it has absolutely nothing to do with TEW - so I guess the right area in this forum to put it in would be the "Special Dynasty Forum". The thing now is that very few people seem to read in that area and therefore I'm a little afraid that creating a diary over there would be kinda wasted.</p><p> </p><p>

So the question is - may users (in this case, me) open dynasties about other wrestling games right here? Is there someone who would absolutely reject that? I've already searched for familiar topics and there have been several people asking about EWR diaries, which obviously can't be compared to my request because it's a Ryland game.</p><p> </p><p>

Theoretically I'm fine with posting the diary in the special area as long as I'm allowed to advertise it here, of course. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I am not a mod so I cannot comment on your question about if it is all right to post non-GDS games here.

I will say this though, you might not think that diaries down in the Special Dynasty Forum draw but they actually do. I normally try not to bring up any of my diaries outside of threads dealing with my diaries but I just wanted to point out to you that I have done diaries down there and they actually get better views per post than anything I have ever done up here. I am not sure if the views down there are mostly bots or actual people so that is something to think about but still everything I have done down there far out draws anything I have ever done up here.

Yeah, the posts of Nickman and K-Nection are what I expected - I didn't really know about it either before I explicitely searched for it.

And because of that what you said, BHK1978, is really surprising for me. But well, like I said, maybe it's enough to do some advertising here so people actually get to know that area and can check it out.

EDIT: The dynasty's up. Please consider checking it out :)

[EARLY PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENT]

"MARTIAL INSPIRATION: TIER 1" [WMMA4/TEW2013]

It should be ~ early 2016 when the project starts.

The History of Wrestling isn't well-recorded. Companies, territories, shows, individuals... pass without a trace. Such is the case of the original "Shoot-Wrestling" company, TIER-1 -- faded completely into obscurity, once promising, once considered great, but now... mired in obscurity. It was, if nothing else, "inspiring".

This is our story.

The story uses the 97verse as a base. The company includes the "graduating class" of the "Dragons Lair Wrestling School" -- a group of six-ten individual workers, along with five-ten CVerse workers. The company will start at "high-regional" and [probably] able to get PPV, where they run monthly shows. The idea introduces the concept of MMA-Entertainment, a pro-wrestling/MMA hybrid designed to move video game units.

The game start date is set for JAN 2002 and follow the careers of the "five graduates". The thread combines both WMMA4 and TEW 2013 action -- the first year will be spent as a "watcher" in TEW until TIER1's debut -- and there will be a lot to follow, including five years of catch-up between 1997-2002. I plan to have the thread active in both the WMMA and TEW forums.

TIER-1 Product:

Key Feature: Hyper-Realism, Pure

Heavy: Mainstream, Risque

Medium: Comedy, Realism

Authors Note: This project "replaces" the proposed Burning Hammer project.

Just wanted to advertise that I started a new diary focusing on my attempt to do a Road to Glory-light and would appreciate any feedback and help as I am new to using the C-Verse and still not real good at writing diaries. Thank you!!

My first dynasty was a RTG and I'm interested to see what you come up with.

Coming Soon to TEW 2013 Dynasties...

The year is 1993. Pro wrestling has been rocked to its very core in light of the recent charges brought against WWF President, Vincent Kennedy McMahon, who is accused of distributing steroids to a number of his former employees. On top of this, a creative decline in terms of in-ring competition has led to Ted Turner's WCW gaining somewhat of an advantage in the war for supremacy.

This, of course, is not McMahon's first challenge of this sort. After all, he was the man who took professional wrestling out of the territorial era to highs never seen before, with superstars such as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage playing a pivotal role in the development of the WWF to the world's number one wrestling promotion. The men who led wrestling into its 'Golden Age' are now on the wane in terms of both popularity and in-ring ability, meaning that McMahon has to turn to a 'New Generation'.

However, this is where the challenge comes in. Men such as Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart and Razor Ramon have the promise to become the stars of tomorrow, but with inflated egos of yesteryear still waiting impatiently for their umpteenth chance of glory, can McMahon push them all the way to the top? Time will tell as he looks to launch the WWF's first prime time TV show, Monday Night Raw, and help the WWF to 'Rise from the Ashes'.

WWF 1993: RISE FROM THE ASHES

So, I have decided to launch a side project to my NEW dynasty.

I will be taking on a promotion that really hasn't seen much attention given to it.

I believe that It has much potential and I love writing for comedy.

Ladies and Gentlemen.... MEW!
