While I understand what you are trying to do, it has been my experience that the people who try the hardest to get "viewers" usually are the ones that turn people off and people will tend to avoid your diaries. Best advice I saw one of the veteran writers tell a newer person was to write for yourself and have fun, people will see that you are enjoying your diary and you will gain followers. In fact there is a whole thread on diary writing tips somewhere around the forums, and while the content may be a couple years old, there is some really good advice and information in there. It seems that if this issue is causing so much consternation among a few readers then a solution might be to just create a "hype" thread(possibly stickied) for just such a purpose. Those who want can look those who don't can avoid such things. I get about trying too hard, I never did a preview of my diary, don't promote it at all but not everyone is like that. Some just want as many eyes as possible to at least take a look. Yeah it can get to be a bit much but it's no different to me than constantly asking for predictions, you want some level of interaction whether it's views,predictions, a comment here and there. I am not so sure about that, I mean there have been writers on here who have begged for viewers and seem to attract them. For instance the writer that I talked about in my previous post who seems to mention, even if it is just a little comment, something about his diary in every diary he posts in has built up an audience and I think that part of that audience was probably through the comments he made in other diaries about his diary. Heck the writer may or may not even be aware that he's doing it but he does it nearly all of the time and if that is not a way of advertising his diary then I do not know what is. I agree with you though, the minute I read a diary where someone makes it obvious that they begging for viewers I stop reading that diary. But I am the originator of the one here on this board so I am assuming you are looking for my thoughts? In my own personal opinion, the thread title says Diary Preview, not Show Preview. If someone wants to make an advertisement thread, then that's fine. But this thread is basically for throwing ideas against the wall and seeing what sticks. Heck there is one guy who somehow manages to promote his diary in every diary he picks in. It actually impress me how he manages to make nearly everyone of his predictions in other people's diary about his diaries, it is almost like an art form. HAHA!! I'd love to know who this is... for some tips!! I was just saying the other day in my diary called NOTBPW vs CGC: The Invasion, that can be found HERE, that I think it's a good way to promote your own diary without seeming like too much of a plug! Not intently, but I always look at other folks picks to see their thoughts on what is going on in the diaries that I pick in or just read. You just happen to talk about your diaries more often than most folks and you do so all over the place. It is kind of hard not to run across your diary pimpage even if one was not looking for it.
