The GSW Thread

Recommended Posts

GSW is the most fun I've had booking. I prefer Sports Entertainment to book, and I HATE deathmatch wrestling, so naturally I suck at booking GSW which just makes it more fun and challenging for me.

For short term planning I would recommend cutting half the roster from the start just to solve the backstage problem. As for sustainability, I'm still early so I have no idea what will happen to my money or my talent as I move up the ladder.

Getting rid of half of the roster defeats the challenge. The only people that I'd really deem cuttable are Mexico's Finest because he's just bad but in my current game, the dude is getting great chemistry with everyone.

<p>Bump.</p><p> </p><p>

Does anyone have any tips for running GSW? They'll rise easily but will get knocked around from regional battles, the roster is full of guys who are hated, and there's not really that much talent who would fit in with the gangster vibe. And you have no generals.</p><p> </p><p>

Any advice for someone who doesn't want to unrealistically revamp the entire roster?</p>

The AI does a pretty good job of unrealistically revamping the roster though, getting lots of CZCW guys and stuff. And look at IPW...they have some guys that don't really "fit" so to speak. Nothing wrong with going after some real talent. KC Glenn could be a good heel, talking about how he represents REAL wrestling, not the garbage they put on. I guess this would not be unlike Eric Tyler's "Traditionalist" time in DAVE.

Looking at real life, you could try to look at it as ECW (before WWE). They had a lot of the hardcore stuff, but you also had some great wrestling talent. No reason GSW can't be run the same way.

It's also completely viable and recommended for people who don't care to abide by arbitrary rules.

Run the company however, hell you could change the product to be as little hardcore as possible if you want to.

Well, there goes that idea...regardless, I have seen the AI hire several CZCW and MAW guys (also when they run IPW), so the influx of actual wrestling talent is not unrealistic. Though if you play as Brother Grimm, you may see fit to "evolve" with the times and differentiate yourself from IPW...

<p>CQI13 - not sure if you have already done this but your crowd wants dangerous matches when you are booking a show you can create a match and add it to the default database make one the most risky then one for the next level. You can even have a most risky match based on brawling or hardcore. Custom matches will help your guys do a little better. I usually create hardcore based matches and sign guys with the highest hardcore ratings.</p><p> </p><p>

If your starting a new game kid toma and Shady K could probally come in and give you an upgrade</p><p> </p><p>

You could also check out Bradley Blaze for a young talent.</p><p> </p><p>

You could try to set up a talent trade with WEXXV Dallas McWade Henry Lee and Bull Wrecker could add something to the mix.</p><p> </p><p>

Take a look as PSW your not at war with them maybe you could hire some of their workers.</p><p> </p><p>

just some ideas to go from there</p>

<p>Bradley Blaze is good at first. Remember, you are only Local to start. Once you hit Small, you'll have a bigger cash influx. Bret Starr is someone I could totally see in GSW as a completely polarising figure. He brings the glitz and glam of Hollywood to the gritty LA underground. Even without a face/heel divide, their will still be people the fans naturally dislike, in a good way. The lack of divide create a more 'war-like' all out brawl in GSW, but doesn't mean there aren't guys that are loved/hated. Deaf Touch would be loved, Starr would be hated. So that at least means you can bring in guys who don't exactly fit the GSW mold as 'Big Time' stars. Cam Vessey, Casey Valentine and Matt Keith also could work in this role.</p><p> </p><p>

If you don't play with owner goals or manage to avoid the 'No Law Problems' restriction, The Latino Kings (or just Rudy) would not only be great, but fit the 'underground gangsta' vibe. Skill-wise, Hugh De Aske would be great, but you may need to drop the pirate gimmick...I can imagine GSW fans not being super keen on childish comedy gimmicks. Shady K, Sayeed Ali and Frankie Perez are three talented, but more expensive options who I could see fitting in. Also...someone made a super cool Greg Gauge alt which would work perfectly in GSW! Even Steven Parker could work as a believable bad ass fighter.</p><p> </p><p>

I also imagine that some of the slightly psychotic wrestlers could make it as well. Jerry Martin is the best example I can think of, but his lack of gangsta-ness is negated by his disregard for safety.</p><p> </p><p>

And you might as well sign Ash Campbell, just to stick it to Nemesis <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

As for matches...just create a 'GSW Rules' match, which can mean weapons, arena wide brawls or exploding barbed wire...as long as you bump the content risk up from the default (not Injury Risk!). Make that a default match and get in the habit of booking every match like that. You can make tag, triple threat and fatal four way versions as well.</p><p> </p><p>

And remember...you have some talented guys in among the less than stellar 'brawlers'...use them for all they are worth...make Fro Sure earn his paycheck! <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

GSW is my guilty pleasure. I enjoyed the diary I had going on with it and was pleased that I managed to keep myself from firing anyone beyond Mexico's Finest from the initial roster. I just enjoyed having Grimm try to play business man and sort of get a working agreement with the other high risk/hard core companies and use their talents to help improve his own. Had a great hardcore tag tournament I was going to feature as their big yearly show before the save data got messed up.

Jerry Martin did me well, but he just wouldn't gain pop no matter what and he started making enemies so I had to let him go.

Slim V did me well too. Don't bank on Bradley Blaze because like Glenn he won't sign with a risqué promotion like GSW. The Silencer did surprisingly well for me and got over QUICK. I think from January to where I was in August he went from 0 pop to being in low 30's just by taking on mostly jobbers. His downside is he won't do too high risk of matches. Stealing Ali from IPW is never a bad idea. I try not to raid them too much because otherwise they start hiring better talent and start killing GSW in match ratings. After I took Ali they hired Jack Griffin who I think was in decline so overall it helped me more than hinder.

Trying to remember who else I grabbed. Ash Campbell was there as part of a '**** you, Nemesis' storyline. El Mitico Jr. was there as an IC attempt to satisfy the latino population with someone worth a damn in the ring since Brown Pride were pretty much jobbers at that point in my game. Samoan Destruction Inc were brought in and did pretty well. Them and Dead Men Walking were going to pretty much be the anchor for the tag division since DMW had great chemistry that made up for Gravedigga being pretty awful in the ring.

And then there was A ****ing Zombie.

<p>Starting to have success with GSW when I thought it was impossible. The good news is that Ash Campbell and Frantic Ali made some great debuts and have good pops/momentum, the bad news is I've been running a weekly show (only losing 10k per show mind, which isn't bad while I get my momentum up, can always sell the warehouse if I'm on my last legs anyway) and Boneyard is one of the most worthless members of my roster. He's good with menace so I stuck him with Brother Grimm, but he's just impossible to get over because he's so bad in the ring, even 5 minute squashes against anybody do virtually nothing. Probably gonna feed him to Ash Campbell and make him a brainless bodyguard.</p><p> </p><p>

I hired Rock Downpour to double as a RA and an announcer whilst cutting Rumble Roper and Clifford Caves. He and Motormouth should make a good team as the time goes by.</p><p> </p><p>

Some guys like Devyn Retribution or Drop Kix unfortunately have no upside. Unless you play as Brother Grimm (I don't, I prefer being the straight booker instead of the power broker), you can't align with anyone so your younger works can really only be used by you (signed them to exclusive PPV's so IPW weren't bothering me every day or so) and its hard to get them over whilst also trying to save money.</p><p> </p><p>

The game won't really start until the money almost goes into the red. Hopefully I've built enough pop up by then to be able to keep most of my roster (keeping to a straight 16 until I get to regional, can't be wasting any money, especially with the lousy sponsors) and hopefully the top talent doesn't get poached in the first year or two.</p><p> </p><p>

I love GSW, there's just more life to it. IPW is just easy mode, and Nemesis can't be used other than a road agent and just keeps annoying your roster. I can't imagine there being any satisfaction with their company what with $250 mil in the bank. Underdog's ftw.</p><p> </p><p>

I'd probably be better if I stepped back from weekly shows, but I plan to do that when my money is running out so I can build pop and develop my roster fast (got a general now with Frantic so that should help), plus it just makes sense to me that Brother Grimm would run a weekly hour show in his warehouse (copped the idea from The West Coast Diary by Chriswok, excellent diary) rather than a monthly product where 50 fans show up to heckle Boneyard and whoever else is trying to get by...</p>
