The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3: Team Aldo vs. Team Jason

EPISODE 2

In the previous episode of The Ultimate Fighter. Team Aldo won the first fight in the Flyweight Division, but the team managed to return Jason to defeat with victory in the Light Heavyweight Division.

 

After the training session, the team Jason makes the choice of the first fight

 

and the fight is chosen ...

Claudir Dutkevis (10-3) vs. Ralph Lauren (8-4-1)

 

Round 1

We are underway! Dutkevis counters a flurry of punches by hitting a vicious leg kick. Lauren counters a wayward low kick by catching it and shooting in for a takedown, getting it! Dutkevis manages to pull guard. Lauren tries to pound away on Dutkevis, but doesn't do a great deal of damage. Dutkevis pushes Lauren away while defending the strikes, right out of guard.In comes Lauren looking to get some form of ground control. Lauren is quick, Dutkevis can't stop him getting side control. Lauren tries to lock Dutkevis in an arm triangle. Dutkevis gets caught by the arm triangle! It's deep, but he just won't quit! Shockingly, Lauren loses it! Dutkevis pops his head free, and has somehow survived! Dutkevis works some separation, then tries to quickly scramble his way into a better position. The scramble leaves Lauren on top in side control. Lauren tries to lock Dutkevis into an armbar. Dutkevis defends himself well and is in no danger. Lauren blocks Dutkevis as he tries a transition to guard. Lauren starts trying to work to use side control as a way to get behind Dutkevis. He finds himself unable to advance his position on this attempt. Lauren blocks Dutkevis as he tries a transition to guard. Lauren tries to lock Dutkevis into an armbar. Dutkevis stops Lauren from applying it. Dutkevis tries a sweep from the bottom of side control, but doesn't budge Lauren. In side control, Lauren begins working to get a mount. Lauren struggles but cannot mount Dutkevis. Dutkevis tries to pull guard on Lauren but doesn't get anywhere with the attempt. The lengthy period of stalemate results in the referee standing them both back up. Lauren throws a couple of jabs, then chooses to shoot in on Dutkevis. Dutkevis tries to time a counter right hand, but can't get it. The takedown is completed, it was a single leg and Dutkevis is left on his back pulling guard. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out.

 

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! Dutkevis tries for a leg kick but Lauren moves out of range. Lauren sees a right body kick coming, grabs it, shoots in for a takedown, getting it! Dutkevis pulls guard. Lauren tries to pound on Dutkevis, but all the blows are comfortably dealt with. Dutkevis reaches up and tries to lock up an arm. Lauren defends it. Dutkevis is controlled against the ground, unable to shift Lauren off of him. We've now passed the halfway mark in this round. In guard, Lauren catches his breath, content just to throw a couple of punches to the body. Lauren attempts to pass guard. Dutkevis keeps Lauren in guard. Lauren gets pushed back thanks to a butterfly guard, and stands, looking down at Dutkevis who remains on his back. Lauren tries to come in and secure a ground position. Lauren is quick, Dutkevis can't stop him getting side control. Lauren throws a few strikes, but they are without venom. Lauren starts trying to work to go from side control to mount. He can't mount Dutkevis. The time is up, and that's the end of round two.

 

After two rounds we have a winner... The winner and moving to the semifinals is... Ralph Lauren.

 

Victory for Team Aldo who takes control of the fights again.

 

we will fight in the Light Heavyweight Division.

Lucio Linhares (17-8) vs. Alexandre Ribeiro (2-1)

 

Round 1

The fight begins! A straight left fails to land and Ribeiro is able to fire back with a flurry of quick punches to sting Linhares. Ribeiro uses a flurry of lefts and rights to get Linhares to cover up, then shoots in looking for a takedown. Linhares sees the takedown coming and tries to move. The takedown is completed, Linhares is on his back and pulls half guard. Ribeiro throws a few strikes, but they are without venom. Ribeiro tries to ensnare Linhares in a kimura. Linhares defends himself well and is in no danger. Linhares tries to sweep Ribeiro but doesn't get anywhere. Ribeiro tries to ensnare Linhares in an arm triangle. Linhares stops Ribeiro from applying it. Ribeiro blocks Linhares as he tries a sweep from half guard. Ribeiro attempts to pass half guard. Ribeiro is too skilled for Linhares, passing half guard and gaining side control. Ribeiro looks to roll Linhares slightly and slip behind. Linhares rolls to the side to try and escape, but gives up his back! Ribeiro tries to hook Linhares in a rear naked choke. Linhares fights off the rear naked choke attempt. Linhares tries a roll, but doesn't budge Ribeiro. Ribeiro tries to flatten Linhares out for a rear naked choke. Linhares stops Ribeiro from flattening him out. Round one ends as time expires.

 

Round 2

There's the bell for the start of the round! Linhares steps back to avoid a flurry of punches. Linhares slips out of the way of a flurry of punches. Linhares tries for a left jab but Ribeiro moves out of range. Ribeiro chooses to shoot in on Linhares. The takedown is successful, he almost gets side control but has to settle for half guard. Ribeiro begins trying to get his leg free of the half guard. He finds himself unable to get past the half guard on this attempt. Linhares tries to sweep Ribeiro but can't do it. Ribeiro starts trying to work to get out of half guard and into a better position. Getting his leg free with ease, he gets to side control. Ribeiro attempts to roll Linhares slightly and take his back. Linhares rolls to the side to try and escape, but gives up his back! Ribeiro tries to set up Linhares for an armbar. Linhares stops Ribeiro from applying it. Linhares tries a roll, but doesn't budge Ribeiro. Linhares is in increasing trouble, as Ribeiro gets both hooks in. The time runs out on round two.

 

After two rounds we have a winner... The winner and moving to the semifinals is... Alexandre Ribeiro.

 

Team Jason wins one more fight at Light Heavyweight.

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p>

We are underway! Fekete catches a right leg kick and goes for a takedown and gets it! Perpetuo has to pull guard. Fekete looks to pass guard and get side control. Perpetuo can't block the pass, and is left pulling half guard. Fekete pounds away with elbows from half guard, but Perpetuo isn't troubled by them. Perpetuo tries to sweep Fekete but doesn't get anywhere. Fekete attempts to pass half guard and gain a better position. He can't find a way past half guard. Fekete blocks Perpetuo as he tries a sweep from half guard. Fekete begins trying to get his leg free of half guard and get a better position. Fekete isn't able to pass from half guard thanks to the tenacious defence of Perpetuo. Fekete blocks Perpetuo as he tries a sweep from half guard. Fekete fires away with big punches, but Perpetuo keeps the half guard secure and doesn't take any undue damage. Fekete blocks an attempted sweep. Looking to catch his breath, Fekete is content to just throw a couple of punches to the body. Perpetuo tries a sweep from the bottom of half guard, but doesn't budge Fekete. With no progress being made, the referee brings the fighters back to their feet. Perpetuo circles, looking for an opening. Not letting Perpetuo settle at all, Fekete comes in closer. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out. I have to give that round to Fekete, but only a 10-9.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

And here we go, round two! Perpetuo comes in quick and hits a clever combination ending in a big right hook. Moving forward, Perpetuo counters a left jab with a couple of jabs and a right cross. A feint puts him off balance, but Fekete is still able to slip out of the way of a body kick. Perpetuo throws three punches in quick succession, but Fekete was out of range. Time slips away as Fekete doesn't press Perpetuo, allowing him to circle. A left jab misses and Perpetuo strikes back with a barrage of big right hands! Perpetuo uses head movement to dodge a jab, and counters with a series of big right hands, putting Fekete down on the ground! Perpetuo senses victory and starts to unload with punches! The punches rain down, but Fekete keeps composed and manages to pull half guard. Perpetuo tries to lock Fekete into an arm triangle. Fekete defends himself well and is in no danger. Fekete works some separation, then tries to quickly scramble his way into a better position. The scramble results in Perpetuo being on his back pulling guard. Perpetuo is controlled against the ground, unable to shift Fekete off of him. Fekete attempts to pass guard and gain a better position. Fekete isn't able to pass guard on this attempt. Perpetuo tries to sweep Fekete but can't do it. Fekete throws a few right hands, but is mainly trying to catch his breath. The time runs out on round two. That round goes to Perpetuo, 10-9 on my card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p>

There's the bell for the start of the round! Advancing, Perpetuo counters a left jab by using a barrage of hard punches! Fekete eats a stiff jab. Perpetuo uses a nice right hook to the body from the pocket. Good head movement allows Fekete to avoid a wildly thrown right hand. Moving in closer, Fekete looks like he may want to wrestle Perpetuo. Strikes from Perpetuo keep Fekete from stepping in too close, and he is forced to step back. Fekete avoids a tight combination. A quick exchange of strikes produces nothing worth mentioning. They both meet with strikes, but neither does any damage. Having stepped in close to throw their strikes, they end up clinched. With underhooks giving him solid control over Perpetuo, Fekete looks for a takedown. Perpetuo cannot stop being lifted up and blasted with a Greco-Roman slam, he is left under side control! Fekete fires away with elbow strikes, but Perpetuo deals with them fairly well. Fekete attempts the mount. Fekete struggles but cannot mount Perpetuo. Perpetuo tries a sweep from the bottom of side control, but doesn't budge Fekete. Fekete tries to slip behind and take the back. He rolls Perpetuo over a little...and slips behind to take the back! Time runs out and that's the end of the fight. Incredibly close round, but Fekete came out just ahead on my score card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p>

The fight begins! Formiga slips out of the way of a leg kick. Formiga counters a weak right kick with a crisp left hand punch. Johnson throws a barrage of big rights but Formiga is quick to move out of range. Johnson throws a left jab but Formiga avoids it. Johnson throws three punches in quick succession, but Formiga was out of range. Formiga presses in closer to attack. Formiga shoots in for a takedown. Formiga gets caught out and eats a stiff left jab. Formiga avoids a nice combination. Advancing, Formiga counters a left jab by using a solid left. Formiga covers up to absorb a tidy combination of punches and then hits a left jab to the cheek. An errant jab sets Johnson up to counter-strike with a kick to the body. Formiga counters a tight combination by hitting a nice jab. Formiga throws three punches in quick succession, but Johnson was out of range. Johnson presses in closer to attack. The time runs out on round one. That was a very close round, but I think Formiga just about edged it.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

Round two begins! Johnson slips past a left jab and counters with a couple of jabs and a beautiful right hook to the body. Johnson counters a wayward left jab with a leg kick. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Formiga. Johnson is too quick, and manages to hit Formiga with a good clean left jab. Johnson tries for a leg kick but Formiga moves out of range. Formiga comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Formiga can't get near enough to engage, Johnson uses strikes to keep him out of range. Johnson tries for a leg kick but Formiga moves out of range. Formiga slips out of the way of a combination of short sharp punches. Formiga chooses to shoot in on Johnson. Johnson tries to step away from the takedown. Formiga doesn't get the takedown, Johnson avoided it. Formiga comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. A counter left hand catches Formiga above the eye. Formiga slips out of the way of a jab. A straight left by Formiga keeps Johnson from advancing. Johnson quickly gets in closer, looking to attack. Formiga moves out of range of a tidy combination of punches. There's a takedown attempt from Formiga. Formiga walks into a big left jab, landing right on the cheek. Round two ends as time expires. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Johnson.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p>

There's the bell for the start of the round! Judging from what we heard from his corner, Formiga is looking to avoid strikes and take it to the ground in this round. Formiga slips out of the way of a combination of short sharp punches. Johnson slips out of the way of a jab. Formiga chooses to shoot in on Johnson. Johnson stuffs the takedown, so Formiga has to settle for pushing him up against the cage. Formiga uses a vicious foot stomp. Showing his ability to control opponents, Formiga simply smothers Johnson against the cage for about a minute. Smothered against the cage, Johnson is trapped there, unable to do anything but take the occasional nasty short punch to the ribs, for about a minute. The referee thinks there has been too little progress, and brings the two fighters back to the center. Johnson is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Formiga now has Johnson standing in the pocket. Johnson dodges a jab, and fires back with a left jab to the cheek. Formiga slips past a big right and hits a flurry of quick punches to sting Johnson. Demetrious Johnson is breathing very hard. Johnson dodges a jab, and fires back with a stinging jab. Formiga shows good head movement to avoid getting caught with a jab. Formiga lets a jab sail wide and counter-strikes with a nice jab. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. That round goes to Formiga, 10-9 on my card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Middleweight Bout: Yushin Okami vs. Thales Leites</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p>

There's the opening bell! Leites steps back to avoid a leg kick, having been suckered in with a feinted high kick. Leites gets suckered in by a feint, and is lucky to avoid the combination that follows. Okami uses a nice combination as a set up, then shoots in for a takedown. Leites cannot stop the takedown, and has to pull guard. Okami begins trying to pass the guard. Okami struggles but cannot find a way past and remains stuck in guard. Leites reaches up and tries to lock Okami in a guillotine. Leites can't get the submission from it, but does use it as the basis for a sweep to side control. Leites is trying to move from side control to mount. Leites shows his ground skills and slips to mount. Leites fires away with punches, Okami is getting pounded. Okami is barely able to do anything at all, he cannot get out from under Leites! The referee stops the fight, he didn't feel Okami was intelligently defending himself!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Women´s Bantamweight Bout: Cristiane Santos vs. Miesha Tate</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p>

There's the opening bell! Tate avoids a leg kick and scores with a spinning back fist! A feint allows Tate to attempt a dangerous flying knee, but Cyborg side-steps at the last moment. Cyborg steps back to avoid a kick to the body, having been suckered in with a feint. Cyborg uses a nice combination as a set up, then shoots in for a takedown. Tate attempts to avoid Cyborg as she shoots in. Cyborg doesn't get the takedown, Tate avoided it. Cyborg avoids a quick jab and hits a sharp body kick. Moving in closer, Tate looks like she may want to try and clinch with Cyborg. Cyborg finds herself pulled into a Muay Thai clinch. Cyborg grabs an arm and pulls Tate out of the Muay Thai clinch and into a regular wrestling clinch instead. Cyborg tries to wrestle Tate backward and up against the cage. Cyborg does it, Tate is stuck with her back to the cage. Cyborg tries to keep her up against the cage with wrestling, but Tate reverses so that she is the one in control. Tate pins Cyborg up against the cage and hits a couple of nice right hands to the side of the head. Cyborg takes a hard knee strike to the inside of her own knee. Tate takes a short step back and prepares to strike. Cyborg shows good head movement to avoid getting caught with a jab. Stepping back, Tate creates a bit of distance. Cyborg gets suckered in by a feint, and is lucky to avoid the combination that follows. Time expires and we come to the end of round one. That round goes to Tate, 10-9 on my card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

There's the bell for the start of the round! From what we could hear of her corner, it sounds like Cyborg has been instructed to try and get Tate to the floor in this round. Cyborg covers up in the face of a combination of short sharp punches, then fires back with a stinging leg kick. Cyborg steps back to avoid a push kick. Tate comes in closer, looking to clinch with Cyborg. Cyborg is pulled into a Muay Thai clinch. Tate finds an attempted knee strike caught, and the leverage allows Cyborg to wrestle free of the Muay Thai clinch. Tate throws out a quick left jab. Cyborg presses in closer to attack. Cyborg is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Tate keeps herself moving out of range. Cyborg looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Cyborg grabs Tate and pulls her into a Muay Thai clinch. Using the clinch, Cyborg blasts Tate with a powerful knee to the cheek! Tate is knocked out!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p>

The fight begins! Volkmann steps back to avoid a leg kick. Volkmann looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with dos Anjos. The two fighters start grappling for control. Volkmann is trying to muscle dos Anjos up against the cage. Volkmann achieves it, pinning dos Anjos to the cage. Volkmann takes a short step back and prepares to strike. dos Anjos dodges a jab, and fires back with a quick series of punches. dos Anjos throws a flurry of punches but Volkmann covers up well. Volkmann comes in closer, looking to wrestle with dos Anjos. dos Anjos strikes first and manages to rock Volkmann with a solid left! dos Anjos looks to be trying to close the distance between them. They start grappling, Volkmann looks happy to engage dos Anjos at close quarters. Volkmann is looking to muscle dos Anjos back against the cage. dos Anjos ends up backed against the cage. Showing his ability to exert control, Volkmann smothers dos Anjos up against the cage for about thirty seconds, wearing him down with occasional sharp punches to the ribs. Volkmann smothers dos Anjos up against the cage, keeping him stuck there for thirty seconds. Smothered against the cage, dos Anjos is stuck there, unable to do anything, for roughly sixty seconds. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. Incredibly close round, but Volkmann came out just ahead on my score card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

We are back underway! dos Anjos counters a left jab with a hard left kick to the legs. Volkmann looks to be trying to close the distance between them. He pulls dos Anjos into a grapple. Volkmann is trying to push dos Anjos so that his back is up against the cage. Volkmann does it, dos Anjos is stuck with his back to the cage. Volkmann shows great control, keeping dos Anjos pressed against the cage while punishing him with sharp strikes to the body for roughly half a minute. Volkmann smothers dos Anjos up against the cage while using the occasional short sharp punch to the body, keeping him stuck there for thirty seconds. dos Anjos waits for Volkmann to try some dirty boxing, then quickly uses wrestling to turn him around so that he now has his back to the cage. dos Anjos tries a foot stomp, but Volkmann avoids it. With the fight having been stuck against the cage for a lengthy period of time, the referee restarts them back in the center. There's the bell and round number three begins! dos Anjos darts in, feints a jab, darts back out. There's a takedown attempt from dos Anjos. The takedown doesn't work, Volkmann stuffed it. dos Anjos is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Volkmann. dos Anjos grabs Volkmann and pulls him into a grapple. dos Anjos tries to suck Volkmann to the ground by wrapping his legs around the waist and pulling guard. Volkmann defends against it well, and takes control of the clinch. The grappling doesn't last long, as they soon break away from each other. dos Anjos comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Volkmann. dos Anjos can't get close enough to grapple, Volkmann makes sure to keep out of range. Rafael dos Anjos doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. Jacob Volkmann doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. Moving in closer, a tired-looking dos Anjos apparently wants to strike from the pocket. dos Anjos cannot get close enough to the elusive Volkmann. A drained-looking dos Anjos tries to close the distance between them. dos Anjos cannot get close enough to the elusive Volkmann to grapple. They come together and strike, but neither can land a clean shot. From the pocket, a tired-looking dos Anjos shoots in for a double leg. dos Anjos can't get past the sprawl of Volkmann, and finds himself pushed face-down to the ground. dos Anjos is rolled over onto his back, where Volkmann secures side control. Volkmann starts trying to work to use side control as a way to get behind dos Anjos. He shows excellent control to move dos Anjos over and take his back. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Volkmann.</p><p> </p><p>

Round one begins! Maia avoids a tight combination. St. Pierre looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Maia. Maia drops down to try and catch him by surprise with a single leg attempt, but it is blocked. Maia comes in, looking for a quick takedown. St. Pierre sprawls to stop the takedown, then pulls Maia up close into a clinch. St. Pierre is looking to muscle Maia back against the cage. St. Pierre manages it, and controls Maia up against the cage. St. Pierre tries to use some dirty boxing, but Maia uses wrestling to nullify any potential damage. Maia wrestles back against St. Pierre, turning him around so that he now has his back to the cage. Maia looks for a trip takedown. St. Pierre doesn't fight the takedown, he seems content to pull guard. Maia throws a few strikes, but is clearly slowing things down so that he can catch his breath. Maia is trying to pass guard. He can't find a way past the guard. Maia has problems keeping control of St. Pierre, who pulls them both back toward the cage side. Using the cage, St. Pierre walks up, but cannot break the control of Maia. With the cage trapping St. Pierre, Maia looks to try and take him down. St. Pierre stops the takedown attempt, then uses his wrestling to take control of the grapple and put Maia against the cage. Maia takes a hard knee strike to the inside of his own knee. St. Pierre drives a knee to the thigh area twice in quick succession. St. Pierre nails Maia with a hard right hand to the side of the head, stunning him. St. Pierre uses a hard foot stomp. We are back underway! Maia slips out of the way of a teep. St. Pierre keeps his cool as Maia throws a feint to the left. St. Pierre comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Maia. Maia seems happy to grapple with St. Pierre. St. Pierre is trying to push Maia so that his back is up against the cage. St. Pierre does it, Maia is stuck with his back to the cage. Smothered against the cage, Maia is trapped there, unable to do anything but take the occasional nasty short punch to the ribs, for about a minute. St. Pierre tries to throw an elbow, but Maia takes the opportunity to turn his opponent around so that St. Pierre ends up backed against the cage instead. Maia looks for a trip takedown. St. Pierre cannot stop the takedown, and has to pull guard. Maia begins trying to pass the guard. St. Pierre keeps Maia in guard. St. Pierre tries to ensnare an arm. Maia fends off St. Pierre, and spins to side control in a great show of skill. Maia throws a few weak-looking punches as he decides on his next move. Maia attempts the mount. Maia isn't able to mount St. Pierre this time around. The time runs out on round two. I have to give that round to Maia, but only a 10-9.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p>

There's the bell for the start of the round! St. Pierre steps in, faking as if going for a shot, but Maia is alive to the deception. St. Pierre looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Maia tries to counter with a takedown, but St. Pierre defended it well. Maia chooses to shoot in on St. Pierre. The takedown is unsuccessful, St. Pierre blocked Maia. Demian Maia is looking really tired. St. Pierre looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Maia. Seeing a takedown opportunity, Maia goes for a single leg, but St. Pierre is equal to it. St. Pierre comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Maia. Maia tries to single leg St. Pierre as he moves forward, but he is too quick to step away. Georges St-Pierre is looking really tired. A tired-looking Maia approaches, looking for a takedown. Maia doesn't get the takedown, St. Pierre was equal to it and pulls them into a clinch. From the looks of things, I don't think Demian Maia has much energy left. St. Pierre hits Maia with some short strikes to the side of the head while grappling. St. Pierre tries to wrestle Maia backward and up against the cage. St. Pierre achieves it, pinning Maia to the cage. St. Pierre has gotten underhooks in and is looking to take Maia to the ground. The takedown doesn't work, Maia blocked it and then turns it so that St. Pierre is the one against the cage. From the looks of things, I don't think Georges St-Pierre has much energy left. Maia tries to take St. Pierre down. St. Pierre keeps his composure, and Maia cannot get past his takedown defence. The time runs out on round three. <strong>Round 4</strong></p><p>

There's the bell for the start of the round! Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. An exchange of blows doesn't really produce any damage or a clear advantage. A leg kick misses badly, giving Maia an opening to score with a crisp jab. Maia steps back to avoid a leg kick. Maia slams a crisp left into the gloves of St. Pierre, but can't follow up. St. Pierre seems to be waiting for Maia to make a move. Georges St-Pierre looks totally gassed. St. Pierre, who looks drained, comes forward looking for a takedown. Maia sees the takedown coming and tries to move. St. Pierre can't get the takedown, Maia was too quick to back away. We are back underway! Out of nowhere, Maia dives at St. Pierre, trying to grab one of his legs! St. Pierre avoids the dive, keeping his legs out of range. St. Pierre closes in quickly, not allowing Maia time to get back up. St. Pierre looks to get on top of Maia. Maia is unable to prevent St. Pierre from getting side control. St. Pierre pounds away with rights, but doesn't do much damage, if any, Maia has good control from the bottom of side control. Maia attempts to secure an arm-in guillotine. The guillotine is sunk in deeply, St. Pierre has to tap out before he passes out! </p><p> </p><p>

The takedown doesn't work, Arona saw it coming and got out of range. A couple of quick punches are used to set up a takedown attempt from Arona. Arona has the takedown! Gusmao pulls half guard. Arona reaches over and tries to lock Gusmao in an arm triangle. Gusmao defends it well. Gusmao tries to pull Arona into a guillotine choke from the bottom of half guard. Arona defends it well. Arona throws some small strikes, but is clearly just taking a moment to try and catch his breath. Gusmao tries to pull Arona into a guillotine choke from the bottom of half guard. Arona stops Gusmao from applying it. Arona tries to pass the half guard. Arona isn't able to pass from half guard thanks to the tenacious defence of Gusmao. Arona is in danger as Gusmao tries to climb up his back and apply a choke of some kind. Arona goes underneath, causing Gusmao to go over and end up flat on his back. Gusmao deflects a right hand that comes down, and then quickly scrambles back up. Gusmao throws a swift jab but doesn't do any damage. Arona steps in to put some pressure on. Arona chooses to shoot in on Gusmao. The takedown is successful, Gusmao pulls guard. Gusmao is controlled against the ground, unable to shift Arona off of him. Arona starts trying to work to get past the guard. He passes the guard well, gaining side control. Arona throws some small strikes, but is clearly just taking a moment to try and catch his breath. Condit drives forward and gets the takedown! Koreshkov couldn't quite stop it. The takedown leaves Koreshkov seated with his back pressed against the cage. Condit looks to get a more dominant position by pushing Koreshkov from a seated position onto his back. He is too good for Koreshkov, and gets side control. Condit keeps Koreshkov guessing with a few quick strikes. Koreshkov tries a sweep from the bottom of side control, but doesn't budge Condit. Condit throws a few right hands to the body. Koreshkov reaches over and tries to lock up an arm. Condit doesn't let his arm get taken. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Condit.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

And here we go, round two! Condit side-steps a barrage of big punches and hits a crunching right hook to the body. Koreshkov looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Condit. He pulls Condit into a grapple. Koreshkov gets a couple of ineffective strikes in, but ultimately loses control of the grapple after being caught off-balance. Condit tries to wrestle Koreshkov backward and up against the cage. He does so, and now has Koreshkov pinned to the cage. Condit attempts to wrestle Koreshkov to the ground. Koreshkov attempts to snare Condit in a guillotine off the takedown. He gets a big takedown and he manages to get side control as a result. Condit throws a few strikes, but they are without venom. Condit is trying to move from side control to mount. He can't quite manage to get to mount on this attempt. Condit blocks Koreshkov as he tries to get enough separation to scramble up. In side control, Condit throws a couple of punches designed to keep Koreshkov guessing. Condit tries to ensnare Koreshkov in an armbar. An armbar is applied, Koreshkov is trapped! Condit loses the hold! Somehow Koreshkov got his arm free. That was incredibly close to a finish though. Koreshkov tries to sweep Condit but can't. Condit holds Koreshkov in position with side control and hits a knee into the ribs. Round two ends as time expires. Hopefully the next round will produce a little more in the way of action. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Condit.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p>

There's the bell and round number three begins! From what we could hear of his corner, it sounds like Condit has been instructed to try and get Koreshkov to the floor in this round. Koreshkov darts in and out of range quickly, trying to get Condit to commit to throwing a strike. Koreshkov darts in, feints a jab, darts back out. Koreshkov moves out of range of a tidy combination of punches. Condit slips past a barrage of big punches and fires back with a quick right hook, catching Koreshkov wide open and putting him down! Koreshkov recovers his wits quickly, and waits for Condit to make a move. Condit steps in to throw a punch, but takes an up-kick to the side of the stomach and retreats. In comes Condit looking to get some form of ground control. Koreshkov tries to get free, but Condit is able to secure side control. Carlos Condit is looking really tired. Condit starts trying to work to use side control as a way to get behind Koreshkov. Koreshkov rolls to the side to try and escape, but gives up his back! Condit attempts to set up a rear naked choke on Koreshkov. Koreshkov stops Condit from flattening him out. Koreshkov tries a roll, but doesn't budge Condit. Breathing very hard, Andrey Koreshkov is looking ragged. Condit tries to set up Koreshkov for an armbar. Koreshkov fights off the armbar attempt. Koreshkov tries a roll, but doesn't budge Condit. Condit tries to set up Koreshkov for an armbar. The armbar is fully applied, Koreshkov has no option but to tap out!</p><p> </p><p>

Round 1</strong></p><p>

The fight begins! An errant jab sets Guida up to counter-strike with a nasty-looking kick to the inside of the left knee. Guida shoots in for a takedown. He has the takedown! Curran pulls guard. Guida is trying to pass guard. Curran comfortably blocks the attempt and keeps Guida in guard. Curran uses his legs to push Guida back, and tries to scramble for position. Guida is too quick though, and grabs side control before Curran can get up. Guida looks to get a mount. Guida isn't able to mount Curran this time around. Guida blocks Curran as he tries to get enough separation to scramble up. Guida attempts the mount. Curran keeps Guida from mounting him. Curran looks ready to try and scramble, but Guida is quick to move to prevent that. Guida begins trying to get himself behind Curran. He rolls Curran over a little...and slips behind to take the back! Curran is in huge trouble now, as Guida successfully gets both hooks in. With both hooks in and therefore great control of the body, Guida tries to finish Curran off with a rear naked choke. The rear naked choke is in deep, but Curran only has to survive a few seconds before the round ends! Time expires and we come to the end of round one. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Guida. Clay leans back on his stool and lets out a giant burp.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

There's the bell and round number two begins! Curran just avoids a combination of short sharp punches and hits a clean left. A feint puts him off balance, but Curran is still able to slip out of the way of a body kick. Curran looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Guida. He pulls Guida into a grapple. Curran finds his dirty boxing smothered, and Guida gains the dominant position in the grapple. Guida tries to pick Curran up for a slam. There's the slam! Curran is planted onto his back, and pulls guard. Guida punches down at Curran, but they are easily taken on the gloves. Curran works some separation, then tries to quickly scramble his way into a better position. There wasn't enough separation though, Guida is able to catch him and secure side control. Guida attempts to move to mount. Guida isn't able to mount Curran this time around. Curran tries to pull guard on Guida but doesn't get anywhere with the attempt. Guida attempts an americana. Curran doesn't allow the americana to be applied. Guida feels Curran prepare to scramble for position and makes sure it doesn't happen. Guida starts trying to work to go from side control to mount. He can't mount Curran. The time is up, and that's the end of round two. That round goes to Guida, 10-9 on my card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p>

We are back underway! Between rounds we could hear the corner of Curran telling him to go right at Guida, hard and fast. Guida slips out of the way of a jab. Curran drops his shoulder and feints to step in, but Guida isn't buying it. Guida avoids a barrage of punches and hits a series of quick jabs. Guida shoots in for a takedown. Curran sees the takedown coming and tries to move. The takedown is completed, it was a single leg and Curran is left on his back pulling guard. Guida attempts to pass guard and gain a better position. Curran keeps Guida in guard. Curran tries to break free and scramble for position, but Guida keeps him trapped. Guida starts trying to work to get past the guard. He can't find a way past the guard. Clay Guida is breathing very hard. Curran tries to pull Guida in close and pepper him with short strikes, but can't. Guida throws a few right hands as he takes a moment to plan ahead. Looking to catch his breath, Guida is content to just throw a couple of punches to the body. Curran attempts to lock on a triangle choke. Guida pulls free before the triangle can be locked in. Guida pounds away with elbows, but doesn't do much damage, if any, Curran is comfortable holding guard. Curran uses his legs to push Guida away, into a standing position. Curran wraps Guida up in half guard after he dived in with an attempted huge right hand. Guida reaches over and tries to lock Curran in a kimura. Curran blocks it. We reach the time limit and this fight is over. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Guida.</p><p> </p><p>

Jackson narrowly misses Bader with a right uppercut. Bader doesn't let Jackson settle, stepping in closer to impose himself. Bader throws a couple of jabs, then chooses to shoot in on Jackson. Jackson tries to strike first with a solid right hook, but isn't quick enough. Bader gets a single leg takedown! Jackson pulls guard off it. Bader begins trying to pass the guard. Jackson can't fend off the effort, and can only stop Bader at half guard. In half guard, Bader throws a couple of punches designed to keep Jackson guessing. Jackson tries to sweep Bader but doesn't get anywhere. Bader begins trying to get his leg free of the half guard. Bader struggles but cannot find a way past and remains stuck in half guard. Jackson tries to move from half guard to full guard, but Bader doesn't allow it. Bader reaches over and tries to lock Jackson in an arm triangle. Jackson defends it well. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Bader.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p>

Round two begins! It sounded like his corner told Jackson to go after Bader and look to finish it. Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. Jackson feints going high, but Bader doesn't buy it. Bader avoids a tight combination. Jackson comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. He gets into range. Both throw strikes at each other, both easily defend the other's attempt. From the missed strikes they clinch. Bader is trying to muscle Jackson up against the cage. Jackson ends up backed against the cage. Jackson takes a sharp stomp to the foot. With the cage trapping Jackson, Bader gets the underhooks in and looks for a takedown. The underhooks are used to set up a trip, Jackson is left on his back and has to pull guard. We go past the halfway point of this round. The clock runs down as Jackson is being smothered against the ground by Bader. Bader is trying to pass guard. Jackson comfortably blocks the attempt and keeps Bader in guard. Jackson brings his legs up and tries to lock Bader in a triangle choke. Bader blocks the attempt. Bader pounds away with right hands, but doesn't do much damage, if any, Jackson is comfortable holding guard. Jackson attempts to lock on a triangle choke. In a show of great skill, Bader spins out of the triangle attempt and gains side control. In side control, Bader begins working to get a mount. Jackson doesn't allow Bader to get the mount. Slipping past a left jab, Cruz hits a solid left jab. A nice one-two combination doesn't trouble Faber, who covered up well. From the pocket, Faber shoots in for a double leg. Faber doesn't get the takedown, Cruz saw it coming and was equal to it. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. I have to give that round to Cruz, but only a 10-9.</p><p> </p><p>

Faber isn't able to pass from half guard thanks to the tenacious defence of Cruz. Cruz tries to get full guard on Faber but doesn't get anywhere. Faber tries to pass the half guard. He can't find a way past half guard. The time is up, and that's the end of round two. I think Faber took that round, 10-9 on my score card.</p><p> </p><p>

A left jab misses, giving Cruz the chance to hit back with an enormous right hook, Faber goes down to the ground, dazed! Cruz knows that this is a golden opportunity, and quickly pounces on Faber, looking to finish him off by raining down punches! Dazed as he is, Faber still manages to do the smart thing and pull half guard. Cruz stands up out of half guard and backs off, wanting the fight to continue standing. Round three ends as time expires. That round goes to Cruz, 10-9 on my card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 4</strong></p><p>

We are back underway! Both fighters exchange strikes, but neither hits anything significant. Faber circles away, creating some distance between them. A feint to the right gets Faber to move forward, and Cruz almost clips him with a massive overhand right. Faber comes in, looking for a quick takedown. Cruz strikes first and manages to rock Faber with a solid right hand, sending him down to the ground, stunned! Faber, stunned, is mounted! Cruz tries to ensnare Faber in an armbar. Faber rolls with it, using the armbar attempt as a way of getting on top in side control. In side control, Faber begins working to get a mount. Cruz doesn't allow Faber to get the mount. Cruz tries to move to guard, but Faber doesn't allow it. Faber tries to lock Cruz in an americana. Cruz doesn't allow the americana to be applied. Cruz tries to move to guard, but Faber doesn't allow it. Faber tries to lock Cruz into an arm triangle. The arm triangle is fully applied, Cruz has no option but to tap out!</p><p> </p><p>

In the previous episode of The Ultimate Fighter, Team Jason won two victories and now we know the last two classified for the semifinals.

 

Let's first fight today.

 

Flyweight Bout

Round 1

There's the opening bell! A jab doesn't find its intended target, allowing Tome to fire back with a stinging left jab. Munhoz steps back to avoid a flurry of punches. Tome chooses to shoot in on Munhoz. The takedown doesn't work, Munhoz stuffed it. A jab misses and Tome counters with a clean left. A left jab misses and Tome counters with a solid left jab. Munhoz counters a right kick to the legs with a straight left. An exchange of strikes doesn't really lead to anything. Stepping back, Munhoz creates a bit of distance. Munhoz avoids a flurry of punches. A straight left from Tome fails to land. Munhoz seems to be waiting for Tome to make a move. Munhoz throws a looping punch, but Tome avoids it. Tome quickly gets in closer, looking to attack. Tome looks to move in and stand in the pocket. Tome can't get near enough to engage, Munhoz uses strikes to keep him out of range. Time expires and we come to the end of round one.

 

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! They come together and throw strikes, both miss. Munhoz looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Tome. Tome tries to single leg Munhoz as he moves forward, but he is too quick to step away. Munhoz counters a left jab by hitting a straight left. Tome circles as he plans his next move. Munhoz quickly gets in closer, looking to attack. Tome steps back to avoid a left jab. Munhoz looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Tome. To counter, Tome fires off a left but only finds the gloves. Tome is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Munhoz throws a big right hand as a counter, but it misses the target. Moving in closer, Munhoz looks like he may want to wrestle Tome. Tome tries to take down Munhoz as he steps in, but he blocks it. Tome throws a couple of jabs, then chooses to shoot in on Munhoz. Munhoz tries to avoid the takedown. Tome doesn't get the takedown, Munhoz avoided it. A speculative right hand from Munhoz doesn't find a home. Tome steps in to put some pressure on. Tome comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. To counter, Munhoz throws a huge right hook which doesn't miss by much. The time runs out on round two.

 

Come to the third round.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Between rounds, his corner told Munhoz to get close and use grappling in this round. Tome throws a barrage of big right hands but Munhoz moves out of range. Munhoz looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Munhoz grapples with Tome, who made no attempt to escape. Munhoz is looking to muscle Tome back against the cage. Munhoz does it, Tome is stuck with his back to the cage. Unable to get free, Tome is smothered up against the cage for about sixty seconds. Munhoz launches a knee strike but Tome is ready, catches the leg, and uses some wrestling to turn it around so that Munhoz is the one against the cage. With Munhoz stuck against the cage, Tome tries to complete a takedown. Munhoz shows stubborn resistance to the takedown, but Tome does manage to slip behind him so that he has the back. Circling out, Munhoz breaks free of Tome and regroups in the center. Tome comes in with a couple of jabs, using them as cover so that he can shoot in. Tome can't get the takedown, Munhoz defended it well. Jose Maria Tome is breathing very hard. A straight left fails to land and Munhoz is able to fire back with a nice left hand. A flicked jab from Tome only finds gloves. Not letting Tome settle at all, Munhoz comes in closer. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight.

 

After three rounds, the winner advances to the semifinals is... Pedro Munoz!

There's the opening bell! Orgulho slips past a left jab and fires back with a crisp left hand punch. Monstrão avoids a jab. They come together and strike, but neither can land a clean shot. From the missed strikes they clinch. Monstrão is trying to muscle Orgulho up against the cage. Orgulho out-wrestles him though. Orgulho is looking to muscle Monstrão back against the cage. He does so, and now has Monstrão pinned to the cage. Monstrão takes a knee strike to the inside of his own knee. Orgulho takes a short step back and prepares to strike. Monstrão checks a low kick. Not comfortable in the pocket, Monstrão steps back and creates some space. Monstrão dives forward, trying to grab a leg! Orgulho gets his leg trapped briefly, but is able to pull free before a submission could be threatened. Orgulho ends up looking down on a grounded Monstrão. Monstrão is hit with a sharp kick to the calf. Monstrão keeps Orgulho back with an up-kick. Orgulho leaps in and throws a bomb, but Monstrão safely pulls him into guard. Orgulho pounds away with right hands, but doesn't do much damage, if any, Monstrão is comfortable holding guard. Monstrão tries to sweep Orgulho but can't do it. Orgulho stands up out of guard, but remains hovering dangerously above Monstrão. Time expires and we come to the end of round one.

 

Round 2

We are back underway! Monstrão dives forward, trying to grab a leg! Orgulho gets his leg trapped, but is able to block a heel hook from being applied. Orgulho does have to fall backward though, and ends up pulling half guard. Monstrão attempts to kimura Orgulho from the top of half guard. Orgulho defends it well. Using an underhook to set it up, Orgulho looks to scramble for position. Orgulho ends up on the bottom with Monstrão in side control. Monstrão begins trying to get himself into a mount. He doesn't get the mount, but only because Orgulho rolled over and gave up his back instead. Monstrão attempts an armbar. Orgulho pulls free, meaning Monstrão loses a great position and is now held down in side control. Orgulho stands up and backs off, letting Monstrão stand up as well. Monstrão looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Orgulho. Orgulho ends up grappling for supremacy with Monstrão. Monstrão is looking to muscle Orgulho back against the cage. Orgulho doesn't let himself be driven back though, and gains a dominant position in the grapple instead. The grappling doesn't go anywhere, and they break apart. Monstrão springs forward, trying to surprise Orgulho and grab one of his legs! Monstrão gets hold of a leg and tries to apply a kneebar...but Orgulho defends against it well. Monstrão settles for tripping him and being pulled into guard. Monstrão tries to smother Orgulho, but he squirms free. Monstrão can't control Orgulho, who scoots them both backward until they are resting against the side of the cage. Using the cage for support, Orgulho manages to stand up, bringing Monstrão up too. Round two ends as time expires.

 

Come to the third round.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Monstrão slips out of the way of a jab. Monstrão steps back to avoid a leg kick. An attempted inside leg kick misses, giving Monstrão the opportunity to counter with a clean jab. Orgulho slips past a left jab and fires back with a sharp kick to the shin. There are signs that Richardson Moreira is definitely feeling the damage done to his legs. Targeting the legs is a sound strategy by Orgulho. If Monstrão is limping around then he is going to find it much tougher to get in and out of attacking positions without getting caught. Monstrão throws out a quick left jab. Time slips away as Orgulho doesn't press Monstrão, allowing him to circle. Kleber Raimundo Silva is looking really tired. Moving forward, Orgulho counters a left jab with a series of quick jabs. A jab misses, allowing Orgulho to counter-strike with a kick to the inside of the left thigh. There is no doubt that the damage has added up and Richardson Moreira has an injured leg. A speculative right hand from Monstrão doesn't find a home. Not letting Monstrão settle at all, Orgulho comes in closer. Orgulho comes in closer, despite his tiredness, looking to attack from the pocket. Keen to keep space between them, Monstrão backs away. Monstrão throws three punches in quick succession, but Orgulho was out of range. Not letting up, Orgulho steps in closer to pressure Monstrão into action. Monstrão avoids a low kick. We reach the time limit and this fight is over.

 

After three rounds, the winner advances to the semifinals is ... Kleber "Orgulho" Raimundo!

UFC 187: Henderson vs. Penn - Play by Play

 

Lightweight Bout: Yves Edwards vs. Terry Etim - Terry Etim

 

Round 1

Round one begins! Edwards feints going high, but Etim doesn't buy it. Edwards drops his shoulder and feints to step in, but Etim isn't buying it. Edwards comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Etim. Etim is too quick, and manages to hit Edwards with a good clean left jab. Etim feints stepping in. Moving in closer, Etim looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. Edwards now has Etim standing in the pocket. A right jab misses the mark and allows Etim to counter with a vicious leg kick. A right jab misses, Etim counters with a flurry of jabs and straight punches. Using head movement to slip past a right jab, Etim hits a nice jab. Both throw strikes at each other, both easily defend the other's attempt. Edwards backs away to create some more space. Edwards gets suckered in by a feint, and is lucky to avoid the combination that follows. Etim comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Edwards keeps himself moving out of range. Etim looks to move in and stand in the pocket. Edwards keeps himself moving out of range. Etim comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Backing off, Edwards makes sure to keep out of range. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. I have to give that round to Etim, but only a 10-9.

 

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Etim feints throwing a jab. Etim gets suckered in by a feint, and is lucky to avoid the combination that follows. Edwards has to cover up to absorb a nice one-two combination, having been off balance after falling for a feint. Edwards is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Etim. Etim strikes first and manages to rock Edwards with a solid right hand, sending him down to the ground, stunned! Etim doesn't have time to capitalise though, as Edwards recovers his wits quickly. Etim gets pulled down into guard as he looked to throw a bomb. Looking to catch his breath, Etim is content to just throw a couple of punches to the body. Etim attempts to pass guard. Etim isn't able to pass guard on this attempt. Edwards tries to ensnare Etim in a triangle. Etim defends well against it. Etim throws a few right hands, but is mainly trying to catch his breath. Edwards attempts to lock on a triangle choke. Etim defends well against it. Etim looks to pass guard and get side control. He can't get free of the guard. Edwards brings his legs up and tries to lock Etim in a triangle choke. Etim defends well against it. With no progress being made, the referee stands them back up. Edwards looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Edwards can't get near enough to engage, Etim uses strikes to keep him out of range. Round two ends as time expires. Hopefully the next round will produce a little more in the way of action. I have to give that round to Etim, but only a 10-9.

 

Round 3

And here we go, round three! From what we could hear of his corner, it sounds like Edwards has been instructed to push the pace and try to overwhelm Etim in this round. An exchange of strikes doesn't really lead to anything. Having stepped in close to throw their strikes, they end up clinched. Edwards is trying to push Etim so that his back is up against the cage. Edwards doesn't manage it though, as Etim slips out of the grapple and gets away. Etim steps back to avoid a right jab. Edwards comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Etim uses his strikes to stop Edwards from getting too close. Edwards looks to move in and stand in the pocket. Edwards is now standing in the pocket. Edwards checks a low kick and quickly hits a stinging jab. A showdown where they both exchange strikes only results in a stalemate. From the missed strikes they clinch. Etim is trying to muscle Edwards up against the cage. He does so, and now has Edwards pinned to the cage. Etim catches Edwards with a knee strike to the thigh. Etim pins Edwards up against the cage and hits a couple of nice right hands to the side of the head. Etim steps back to achieve some separation from Edwards and gets ready to strike. They come together and throw strikes, both miss. Edwards backs away to create some more space. A straight right from Edwards fails to land. Time slips away as Etim doesn't press Edwards, allowing him to circle. Edwards comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Etim now has Edwards standing in the pocket. The fight comes to an end as the time limit expires. I have to give that round to Etim, but only a 10-9.

 

The judges have given their scores, which are about to be announced. The judges give 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.

 

So the winner, by unanimous decision, is Terry Etim!

Bantamweight Bout: Michael McDonald vs. T.J. Dillashaw

 

Round 1

Not wanting to grapple, McDonald uses strikes to keep Dillashaw at a distance. Dillashaw looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with McDonald. McDonald finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Using his wrestling skills, Dillashaw is trying to push McDonald up against the cage. Dillashaw achieves it, pinning McDonald to the cage. Dillashaw pins McDonald up against the cage and works him over with small punches to the body for roughly sixty seconds. Dillashaw tries to hit McDonald with an elbow, but McDonald takes the opportunity to switch it around so that he is in control and Dillashaw is the one backed against the cage. McDonald smothers Dillashaw up against the cage while using the occasional short sharp punch to the body, keeping him stuck there for thirty seconds. The referee thinks there has been too little progress, and brings the two fighters back to the center. Moving in closer, Dillashaw looks like he may want to wrestle McDonald. McDonald uses movement to keep out reach, meaning Dillashaw cannot get close enough to grapple. McDonald throws three punches in quick succession, but Dillashaw was out of range. Time slips away as Dillashaw doesn't press McDonald, allowing him to circle. Time expires and we come to the end of round one. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Dillashaw.

 

Round 2

Dillashaw shakes off the blow almost immediately though, and waits for McDonald to make a move. McDonald kicks Dillashaw to the thigh. Dillashaw pulls McDonald down into half guard after he threw a wild bomb that didn't connect. In half guard, McDonald begins working to get side control. McDonald isn't able to pass from half guard thanks to the tenacious defence of Dillashaw. Dillashaw reaches over and tries to lock McDonald in a guillotine. McDonald pulls free before the guillotine can be applied. McDonald tries to pass the half guard. Dillashaw keeps his half guard secure. Dillashaw gets some separation and tries to scramble for position. Dillashaw manages to come out on top with side control. Dillashaw attempts to move to mount. Dillashaw isn't able to mount McDonald this time around. McDonald attempts to grab an arm of Dillashaw from the bottom of side control. Dillashaw blocks it. Dillashaw throws a few strikes, but is clearly slowing things down so that he can catch his breath. McDonald attempts to grab an arm of Dillashaw from the bottom of side control. Dillashaw blocks it. Dillashaw tries to slip behind and take the back. Dillashaw takes the back, McDonald could do nothing about it. The time runs out on round two. Good effort there, that was a very exciting round to watch. More please! I have to give that round to McDonald, but only a 10-9.

 

Round 3

We are back underway! Between rounds, his corner told McDonald to be aggressive and really let his hands go. A jab misses and McDonald counters with a barrage of huge rights, knocking Dillashaw down! Dillashaw shakes off the blow almost immediately though, and waits for McDonald to make a move. McDonald looks to get on top of Dillashaw. McDonald dives in, but Dillashaw pushes him away and starts to scramble. The scramble sees Dillashaw up first, and he is quick to wrestle McDonald up against the cage. Unable to break free, McDonald is smothered up against the cage, taking short blows to the body, for about sixty seconds. Michael McDonald doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. McDonald is pressed up against the cage and held there, taking the occasional short punch to the ribs and stomach, for roughly a minute. Round one begins! Franklin avoids a low kick. Both fighters advance and strike, but neither hits anything. An exchange of strikes goes nowhere. A straight right from Rockhold fails to land. The fight slows as Franklin sits back and allows Rockhold to circle. A straight left by Franklin keeps Rockhold from advancing. Rockhold steps in to put some pressure on. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Rockhold. He has the takedown! Franklin pulls guard. Rockhold begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. Franklin keeps Rockhold in guard. Franklin tries to ensnare Rockhold in a triangle. Rockhold defends well against it. Rockhold looks to get past the guard. He passes, but only to half guard. Rockhold tries to pass the half guard. Franklin comfortably blocks the attempt and keeps Rockhold in half guard. Franklin attempts to grab an arm of Rockhold from the bottom of half guard. Rockhold blocks it. The time runs out on round one. That wasn't the most exciting round we've ever seen, hopefully things will pick up in the next one. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Rockhold.

We are back underway! An attempted body kick misses and Franklin fires back with a solid left. Rockhold slips out of the way of a jab. Rockhold comes in closer, looking to clinch with Franklin. Rockhold can't get close enough to clinch, Franklin makes sure to keep out of range. Both fighters throw strikes at the same time, both miss. From the missed strikes they clinch. Using his wrestling skills, Rockhold is trying to push Franklin up against the cage. Rockhold does it, Franklin is stuck with his back to the cage. Rockhold hits a knee strike to the side of the ribs. Rockhold smothers Franklin up against the cage while using the occasional short sharp punch to the body, keeping him stuck there for a full minute. Rockhold exerts total control, keeping Franklin smothered against the cage for sixty seconds or so. The referee decides that the grappling against the cage has been going on too long, and he brings them back to the center. Franklin misses with an attempted right hook to the body. Rockhold comes in closer to press the issue. Rockhold comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Franklin. Not keen on wrestling Rockhold, Franklin uses movement to keep out of reach. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. That was a bit of a snoozer, hopefully the next round brings a little more action. I think Rockhold took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

There's the bell and round number three begins! A feint puts him off balance, and Rockhold only just avoids a huge right hook. A feinted low kick sets up a right high kick attempt, and Rockhold is lucky to avoid it. Franklin drops his shoulder and feints to step in, but Rockhold isn't buying it. Franklin looks to move in and stand in the pocket. The two fighters move closer, ready to strike. Not comfortable in the pocket, Franklin steps back and creates some space. Rockhold narrowly misses Franklin with a left uppercut. Not letting Rockhold settle at all, Franklin comes in closer. Franklin looks to move in and stand in the pocket. The two fighters move closer, ready to strike. Not comfortable in the pocket, Franklin steps back and creates some space. Franklin sneaks a glance at his corner. Not letting Franklin settle, Rockhold moves in closer. Moving in closer, Rockhold looks like he may want to try and clinch with Franklin. Unable to get free, Franklin is smothered up against the cage for the little that remains of the round. The fight comes to an end as the time limit expires. I think Rockhold took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

Round one begins! Griffin darts in and out of range quickly, trying to get Belfort to commit to throwing a strike. Griffin slips out of the way of a combination of short sharp punches. They come together and strike, but neither can land a clean shot. Belfort counters a weak right kick with a scorchingly fast combination. A left jab misses and Belfort counters with a crisp jab. Griffin steps back to avoid a tight combination of punches after falling for a clever feint. There's a stalemate as both fighters throw strikes but neither hits. Backing out of range, Belfort circles tentatively. Griffin presses in closer to attack. Griffin chooses to shoot in on Belfort. Belfort tries to avoid the takedown. Griffin can't get the takedown, Belfort was too quick to back away. Griffin darts in, feints a jab, darts back out. A right jab misses and Griffin counters with a right body kick. Griffin throws a combination of rights and lefts, using them as cover so that he can shoot in. Belfort sees the takedown coming and tries to move. The takedown doesn't work, Belfort saw it coming and got out of range. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. An extremely close round, could have gone either way, but personally I'll give it to Belfort 10-9.

 

Round 2

There's the bell for the start of the round! An exchange of strikes doesn't lead to any real damage. A feint sets up a body kick from Belfort, but Griffin is able to move out of range in time. A feinted high kick gets a reaction, and Griffin is lucky to avoid the follow-up inside leg kick. Belfort uses a feint to get Griffin off balance, but the nice sequence of punches that follow don't find their mark. Moving in closer, Griffin looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. Griffin cannot get close enough to the elusive Belfort. Griffin comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Belfort uses his strikes to stop Griffin from getting too close. An errant jab sets Belfort up to counter-strike with a crisp right hand punch. Belfort counters a left jab with a couple of nice lefts. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Griffin. Belfort tries to step away from the takedown. Belfort avoids the takedown attempt. Griffin steps back to avoid a barrage of big punches, having been off balance momentarily after a clever feint. Belfort feints going high but then throws a leg kick, Griffin just avoids it. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Griffin. A counter left hook catches Griffin hard, almost putting him down! The time is up, and that's the end of round two. That round goes to Belfort, 10-9 on my card.

 

Round 3

There's the bell for the start of the round! Belfort counters a left jab by hitting a nice jab. Griffin moves in quickly after a wayward punch and hits a right body kick. A wayward low right kick allows Belfort to hit a superb combination of right hook to the body and a big left cross. There's a takedown attempt from Griffin. Griffin goes under an attempted counter left hand. Belfort cannot stop the takedown, and only catches Griffin in half guard. Griffin starts trying to work to get out of half guard and into a better position. Belfort keeps his half guard secure. Griffin blocks an attempted sweep. We go past the halfway point of this round. Griffin is trying to get out of half guard and into a better position. Belfort keeps his half guard secure. Griffin blocks Belfort as he tries a transition to full guard. In half guard, Griffin begins working to get side control. Belfort keeps Griffin in half guard. Belfort tries to transition to full guard, but can't manage it. Griffin looks to pass half guard and get side control. He finds himself unable to get past the half guard on this attempt. The fight comes to an end as the time limit expires. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Griffin.

And here we go! Advancing, Woodley counters a left jab by using a solid left jab. Woodley comes in with a couple of jabs, using them as cover so that he can shoot in. Swick gets taken down by a single leg, and has to pull guard. Woodley looks to get past the guard. Swick comfortably blocks the attempt and keeps Woodley in guard. Swick tries to ensnare Woodley in a triangle. Woodley gets caught by the triangle, and it's deep! Woodley picks him up, then brutally slams him right back down again! The powerbomb doesn't shake Swick off, and in fact seems to have only sunk the triangle deeper...forcing the tap out!

Moving in closer, Henderson looks like he may want to wrestle Penn. Penn ends up grappling for supremacy with Henderson. Henderson is trying to push Penn so that his back is up against the cage. Henderson achieves it, pinning Penn to the cage. Henderson hits a knee strike to the thigh. Henderson drives a knee to the thigh area. Penn is trapped up against the cage and takes repeated small punches to the body from that position. This goes on for roughly half a minute. Henderson looks to try and maintain control via his wrestling skills, but Penn proves too good and manages to turn them around so that he is in the dominant position. Penn gets two quick elbow strikes from the clinch that catch Henderson hard before he can cover up. With the fighters having been stuck against the cage for quite a while, the referee bringing them back to the center. Penn drops a shoulder, trying to sucker Henderson in with a feint. Henderson looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Penn. A counter right hook catches Henderson hard, almost putting him down! Penn looks to move in and stand in the pocket. Henderson seems happy to engage with Penn in the pocket. Henderson is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Penn. Penn finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. The time runs out on round one. I have to give that round to Henderson, but only a 10-9.

Having been stuck against the cage for a while without any progress, the referee brings them back to the center. Penn comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. The two fighters move closer, ready to strike. Not comfortable in the pocket, Penn steps back and creates some space. Henderson looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Penn. Penn keeps himself moving out of range, not wanting to grapple. Henderson looks to be trying to close the distance between them. He pulls Penn into a grapple. Henderson tries to use his dirty boxing skills, but Penn uses wrestling to smother the attacks. The time runs out on round two. There was very little to separate them in that round, but I'll give that one 10-9 to Henderson.

Henderson is looking to muscle Penn back against the cage. He does so, and now has Penn pinned to the cage. Penn waits for Henderson to try some dirty boxing, then quickly uses wrestling to turn him around so that he now has his back to the cage. B.J. Penn looks very tired out there. Henderson takes a knee strike to the inside of his own knee. Penn steps back from Henderson and looks to unleash some strikes. There's a stalemate as both fighters throw strikes but neither hits. Moving in closer, Henderson looks like he may want to wrestle Penn. Henderson can't get close enough to grapple, Penn makes sure to keep out of range. Henderson tries to use his dirty boxing skills, but Penn uses wrestling to smother the attacks. Penn uses his wrestling to smother Henderson and stop him from using any dirty boxing. Henderson looks to get some strikes in, but Penn seizes the moment and wrestles his way into control of the grapple. The grapple breaks up after a short struggle, and the two fighters step apart. A tired Henderson moves forward, looking for a takedown. Penn tries to avoid the takedown. The takedown is unsuccessful, Penn avoided Henderson. A visibly tired Henderson is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Penn. Penn ends up grappling for supremacy with Henderson. Henderson tries to wrestle Penn backward and up against the cage. Henderson manages it, and controls Penn up against the cage. Ben Henderson looks like he doesn't have a lot left to give. Penn is pressed up against the cage and held there, taking the occasional short punch to the ribs and stomach, for half a minute. Henderson tries to maintain control, but Penn isn't letting himself get bullied like that. Penn wrestles back against Henderson, turning him around so that he now has his back to the cage. Penn scores with an elbow strike from the clinch that catches Henderson hard. Henderson waits for Penn to lift a leg to attempt a foot stomp, then turns him around so that he now has his back to the cage. Ben Henderson looks like he is completely out of gas. The time is up, and that's the end of round four. I think Henderson took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

Round five begins! Henderson avoids a kick to the leg and hits a series of quick rights. Henderson, who is visibly tired, looks like he might want to get in close and wrestle with Penn. Penn finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Using his wrestling skills, Henderson is trying to push Penn up against the cage. Penn ends up backed against the cage. Henderson tries to dirty box Penn, but finds himself out-wrestled and turned around so that he is the one against the cage. Henderson is trapped against the cage and Penn punishes him with a solid elbow strike to the cheek. Penn steps back from Henderson and looks to unleash some strikes. Henderson, standing in the pocket, darts back to avoid a left kick to the body. There's a ragged-looking double leg attempt from Henderson, from the pocket. Henderson goes under an attempted counter right hand. Penn cannot stop the takedown, Henderson drove in with too much pace and power. The takedown leaves Penn seated with his back pressed against the cage. The clock runs down as Penn is being smothered against the cage wall by Henderson. Henderson tries to ensnare Penn in a guillotine. Henderson gets the guillotine, applies pressure, and Penn has to tap!

There's the opening bell! Both fighters throw strikes, no significant damage is inflicted by either. Munhoz uses a flurry of lefts and rights to get Moraes to cover up, then shoots in looking for a takedown. Munhoz can't get past the sprawl of Moraes, and finds himself pushed face-down to the ground. Moraes pounds away on the body and side of the head, Munhoz struggles to deal with them. Moraes looks to unload with some big right hands, but Munhoz gets back to his feet before too many land. Munhoz avoids a series of wayward big punches and counters with a left jab to the cheek. The grappling doesn't go anywhere, and they break apart. They exchange strikes, but neither fighter inflicts any real damage. Moraes is getting in closer to Munhoz, perhaps looking for a clinch. Munhoz tries to take down Moraes as he steps in, but he blocks it. The time runs out on round one.

We are back underway! An exchange of strikes doesn't lead to any real damage. Both fighters throw strikes at the same time, both miss. Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. Moraes looks to move in and stand in the pocket. Munhoz tries to counter with a takedown, but Moraes defended it well. Moraes looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Munhoz. Munhoz tries to take down Moraes as he steps in, but he blocks it. Moraes looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Munhoz sees a chance for a takedown attempt, but Moraes is able to defend it. Munhoz gets suckered in by a feint, and is lucky to avoid a flurry of rights and lefts. Moving in closer, Moraes looks like he may want to try and clinch with Munhoz. Munhoz tries to counter with a takedown, but Moraes defended it well. Munhoz gets suckered in to stepping forward, and has to step back sharply to avoid an enormous knock out right. Moraes narrowly misses Munhoz with a right uppercut. Not letting up, Munhoz quickly steps in closer to attack Moraes. The time runs out on round two.

 

After two round we have a winner.

It looks like Lauren is trying to grab a guillotine. The takedown is successful, Lauren pulls guard. Nogueira attempts to pass guard and gain a better position. He does excellently, getting past the guard and into side control. Nogueira uses side control to hit a knee just above the hip. Nogueira tries to slip behind and take the back. He takes the back! Nogueira attempts to set up a rear naked choke on Lauren. Nogueira flattens Lauren out with the rear naked choke in deep and forces the tap!

 

Alexandre Franca Nogueira takes the victory by way of submission!

 

The veteran Alexandre "Pequeno" Franca Nogueira is the other finalist.

Bantamweight Bout: Eduardo Dantas vs. Edwin Figueroa

 

Round 1

Round one begins! There's a stalemate as both fighters throw strikes, but neither scores. Figueroa avoids a kick to the leg and hits a barrage of hard punches! Figueroa uses head movement to avoid a combination of short sharp punches, then fires back with a barrage of heavy right hands, forcing Dantas to cover up! Dantas almost falls over as he backs off...that last shot may have genuinely rocked him! Figueroa starts throwing a barrage of big punches to try and finish, but Dantas covers up and weathers the storm well. Dantas counters a left jab with a jab. Figueroa keeps out of range, assessing the situation. Dantas doesn't let Figueroa settle, stepping in closer to impose himself. A tight combination narrowly misses Figueroa and allow him to counter-strike with some big right hands! Figueroa sees a kick being set up and so strikes first with a crisp left. An exchange of blows doesn't really produce any damage or a clear advantage. Dantas shows good head movement to avoid getting caught with a jab. Dantas uses head movement to avoid a left jab. Stepping back, Dantas creates a bit of distance. Figueroa circles around Dantas. Dantas comes in closer to press the issue. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Dantas. Figueroa tries to time a counter right hand, but can't get it. The takedown is completed, Figueroa is on his back and pulls guard. Dantas looks to pass guard and get side control. He can't find a way past the guard. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out. I think Figueroa took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! An exchange of strikes doesn't really lead to anything. There's a stalemate as both fighters throw strikes, but neither scores. In close proximity from the strikes they threw, they fall into a messy clinch. Dantas looks for a trip takedown. Figueroa cannot stop the takedown, and has to pull guard. Dantas attempts to pass guard and gain a better position. He finds himself unable to pass guard on this attempt. Figueroa tries to break free and scramble for position, but Dantas keeps him trapped. In guard, Dantas begins working to pass to side control. Figueroa keeps Dantas in guard. Figueroa tries to smother Dantas by holding him, but can't keep control. Dantas is trying to pass guard. Figueroa keeps Dantas in guard. Dantas doesn't allow Figueroa to lock him up with double underhooks. Time slips away as Dantas successfully keeps Figueroa stuck against the ground. Dantas is trying to pass guard. He can't find a way past the guard. Time expires and we come to the end of round two. I think Dantas took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Dantas avoids a barrage of big right hands. Figueroa counters a wayward left jab with a clean jab. Dantas comes in, looking for a quick takedown. Figueroa attempts to avoid Dantas as he shoots in. Dantas doesn't get the takedown, Figueroa avoided it. Figueroa looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Dantas. Dantas uses his strikes to stop Figueroa from getting too close. Figueroa avoids a quick jab and hits a nice jab. Figueroa throws a looping punch, but Dantas avoids it. Not letting Figueroa settle, Dantas moves in closer. Dantas throws a combination of rights and lefts, using them as cover so that he can shoot in. Figueroa tries to avoid the takedown. Dantas doesn't get the takedown, Figueroa avoided it. Figueroa looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Dantas. Dantas counters with a left jab that catches Figueroa hard. Moving in closer, Dantas looks like he may want to wrestle Figueroa. Dantas grabs Figueroa and pulls him into a grapple. Dantas is looking to muscle Figueroa back against the cage. Dantas achieves it, pinning Figueroa to the cage. With Figueroa stuck against the cage, Dantas tries to complete a takedown. Figueroa keeps his composure, and Dantas cannot get past his takedown defence. Eduardo Dantas is breathing very hard. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. That was a close round, but I'm giving it to Dantas, 10-9.

The fight begins! Ebersole drops his shoulder as a feint, trying to draw a strike. Thomson slips past an attempted big left hand and counters with a big right kick to the outside of the thigh. Thomson throws a combination of rights and lefts, using them as cover so that he can shoot in. A counter left cross is too slow to catch Thomson. Thomson gets a single leg takedown! Ebersole pulls guard off it. Time slips away as Thomson successfully keeps Ebersole stuck against the ground. Thomson begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. He finds himself unable to pass guard on this attempt. Ebersole tries a sweep from the bottom of the guard, but doesn't budge Thomson. Ebersole is controlled against the ground, unable to shift Thomson off of him. Ebersole fights off Thomson as he tries to smother him against the ground. Ebersole bursts into life and tries to scramble into a better position. The scramble ends with both fighters standing, facing each other. Thomson throws a combination of rights and lefts, using them as cover so that he can shoot in. Ebersole attempts to avoid Thomson as he shoots in. The takedown is unsuccessful, Ebersole avoided Thomson. Thomson comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Ebersole. Ebersole finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Thomson tries to pick Ebersole up for a slam. Ebersole is able to block it and pull away from him. The time runs out on round one. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Thomson.

 

Round 2

There's the bell for the start of the round! Thomson avoids a huge left hand and hits a big right kick to the outside of the thigh. Brian Ebersole won't want to take too many unchecked strikes to the legs like that. Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. Thomson uses a nice combination as a set up, then shoots in for a takedown. Thomson goes under an attempted counter left hand. The takedown is completed, it was a single leg and Ebersole is left on his back pulling guard. Thomson begins trying to pass the guard. Ebersole keeps Thomson in guard. Ebersole uses his legs to push Thomson back, and tries to scramble for position. He may regret that choice, as it gives Thomson the perfect opportunity to come over the top and get side control. Thomson begins trying to get himself into a mount. He can't get the mount. Thomson blocks an attempted sweep. Thomson attempts to move to mount. Ebersole keeps Thomson at side control, not letting the mount happen. Thomson feels Ebersole prepare to scramble for position and makes sure it doesn't happen. Thomson attempts an armbar. Ebersole doesn't allow the armbar to be applied. Ebersole gets some separation and tries to scramble for position. Ebersole is left turtled up with Thomson behind him. Thomson attempts to flatten Ebersole out for a rear naked choke. A roll to the side by Ebersole throws Thomson off balance, and the two fighters are left to scramble for position. Breathing very hard, Josh Thomson is looking ragged. Time expires and we come to the end of round two. I think Thomson took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 3

Round three begins! Between rounds, his corner told Ebersole to take it to Thomson in this round. Thomson avoids several big left hands and counters with a kick to the ribs. Thomson avoids a flurry of rights and lefts and hits a kick to the outside of the right knee. Brian Ebersole is limping slightly. It's a clever strategy by Thomson to work the legs. It will clearly slow Ebersole down and weaken his striking. Thomson avoids a flurry of punches. Brian Ebersole doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. A tired Thomson moves forward, looking for a takedown. The takedown is blocked, and the sprawl allows Ebersole to wrestle Thomson down to the ground instead! Thomson pulls half guard. Ebersole punches down at Thomson, but they are easily taken on the gloves. Thomson tries to move from half guard to full guard, but Ebersole doesn't allow it. Ebersole attempts an arm triangle. Thomson doesn't allow the arm triangle to be applied. Thomson tries to pull Ebersole into a guillotine choke from the bottom of half guard. Ebersole gets caught in a guillotine, but is not tapping! Thomson must not have it totally sunk in. The guillotine is finally released, Thomson may have gassed his arms trying to force the tap out. Josh Thomson looks like he is on the verge of exhaustion. Ebersole throws a few left hands to the body. Thomson brings his legs up and tries to lock Ebersole in a triangle choke. Ebersole doesn't let Thomson get it. Ebersole stands and gets out of guard, but remains hovering above. Ebersole tries to come in and secure a ground position. Thomson tries to get free, but Ebersole is able to secure side control. Thomson takes a knee strike to the ribs from under side control. Brian Ebersole seems to be fighting against exhaustion. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. That was a close round, but I'm giving it to Ebersole, 10-9.

 

The ring announcer is now giving the official scores. The judges give scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.

Round one begins! Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. Te Huna counters an errant right jab with a swift right kick to the leg. Te Huna steps back to avoid a tight combination of punches after falling for a clever feint. Diabate counters an attempted body kick with a right jab to the cheek. Moving forward, Diabate counters a series of wayward big punches with a crisp right hand punch. A left hand misses, allowing Diabate to counter with an excellent combination. Both fighters go to exchange blows, but neither hits a telling strike. Moving in closer, Diabate looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. Te Huna keeps himself moving out of range. Te Huna is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Te Huna moves into the pocket. Using good head movement, Te Huna slips past a tight combination and hits a right body kick. Both fighters fire off strikes, but neither does any significant damage. Diabate sees a kick being set up and so strikes first with a clean punch. Diabate dodges a jab, and fires back with a sequence of quick punches. Round one ends as time expires. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Diabate.

 

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Te Huna slips out of the way of a leg kick, having been suckered in with a feint. They come together and strike, but neither can land a clean shot. Having ended up close together from the strikes they threw, a wild exchange of punches begins! Getting the better of the exchange, Diabate hits a powerful left hand that knocks Te Huna down! Te Huna shakes it off almost immediately though, and is prepared to defend. Apparently unwilling to engage, Diabate lets his opponent stand back up. Moving forward, Diabate counters a series of wayward big punches with a solid right jab. Both fighters throw strikes at the same time, both miss. They wind up in a tight clinch. Te Huna uses some dirty boxing as he grapples with Diabate. The grapple breaks up after a short struggle, and the two fighters step apart. Diabate looks like he might be trying to get in close to clinch with Te Huna. Te Huna keeps himself moving out of range, not wanting to clinch. Diabate slips past an attempted big right hand and counters with a crisp jab. James Te Huna doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. Te Huna circles, looking for an opening. It seems that Diabate is happy to let Te Huna circle for the moment. Diabate is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Keen to keep space between them, Te Huna backs away. The time is up, and that's the end of round two. That was an exciting round, hopefully the fighters will continue with that pace in the next. I think Diabate took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Diabate counters a left jab by hitting a clean right. Te Huna steps back to avoid a one-two combination. Diabate avoids a jab and scores with a quick combination that ends with a scorching left cross. Te Huna barely had time to cover up. They exchange strikes, but neither fighter inflicts any real damage. Diabate hits a right jab. Diabate goes to a traditional stance. Diabate throws a barrage of big right hands after using a feint to trick Te Huna into committing to a strike, but he moves out of range just in time. An exchange of strikes goes nowhere. There is an exchange of strikes, but neither fighter does any damage. They come together and strike, but neither can land a clean shot. Te Huna uses head movement to cause a left jab to sail harmlessly by. Stepping back, Te Huna creates a bit of distance. Diabate throws a leg kick but Te Huna avoids it. The fight comes to an end as the time limit expires. That round goes to Diabate, 10-9 on my card.

 

The judges have given their scores, which are about to be announced. All three judges have scored it 30-27.

Round one begins! Noke counters a left jab with a left. Noke slips past a left jab and fires back with a barrage of big punches on Hathaway! Moving in closer, Noke looks like he may want to wrestle Hathaway. Hathaway is pulled into a grapple. Noke is looking to muscle Hathaway back against the cage. Noke can't do it though, and ends up being out-wrestled in the grapple. With underhooks giving him solid control over Noke, Hathaway looks for a takedown. Noke stops the takedown attempt, then uses his wrestling to take control of the grapple. Using his wrestling skills, Noke is trying to push Hathaway up against the cage. Hathaway out-wrestles him though. Hathaway is trying to muscle Noke up against the cage. He does so, and now has Noke pinned to the cage. Hathaway has worked in the underhooks and looks to take Noke down. Noke blocks the takedown attempt and turns Hathaway around so that he has his back to the cage. Smothered against the cage, Hathaway is stuck there, unable to do anything, for roughly thirty seconds. Noke looks for an elbow strike, but Hathaway out-wrestles him and switches them around so that he is in the dominant position. Noke, stuck against the cage, gets blasted with a right hand, but manages to pull Hathaway in close to stop any more coming in. Showing his ability to exert control, Hathaway smothers Noke up against the cage for the remainder of the round, wearing him down with occasional sharp punches to the ribs. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. Some fans are booing after a round that didn't feature much action. That was a very close round, but I think Hathaway just about edged it.

 

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Noke feints stepping in. Noke doesn't get drawn in as Hathaway feints a kick. A tight combination narrowly misses Noke and allow him to counter-strike with a solid left jab. Noke throws a feint. Hathaway fakes shooting in, but Noke doesn't fall for it. Hathaway drops his shoulder and fakes going for a single leg, but Noke isn't buying it. Noke looks to be trying to close the distance between them. He pulls Hathaway into a grapple. Noke tries to wrestle Hathaway backward and up against the cage. Noke can't do it though, and ends up being out-wrestled in the grapple. Noke tries to wriggle free, but Hathaway controls him well and gets in a few close-range punches too. Hathaway tries to wrestle Noke backward and up against the cage. Hathaway manages it, and controls Noke up against the cage. John Hathaway is breathing very hard. Noke gets caught with a knee to the inside of the thigh. Noke waits for Hathaway to lift a leg to attempt a foot stomp, then turns him around so that he now has his back to the cage. Noke smothers Hathaway up against the cage, keeping him stuck there for the remainder of the round. Kyle Noke is breathing very hard. Round two ends as time expires. An extremely close round, could have gone either way, but personally I'll give it to Hathaway 10-9.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Advancing, Hathaway counters a left jab by using a series of quick punches. Hathaway slips past a left jab and counters with a huge right head kick that sends Noke into the world of unconsciousness!

Mousasi fakes a shot, but gets no reaction from Evans. Mousasi looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Evans. Evans finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Mousasi tries to wrestle Evans backward and up against the cage. He does so, and now has Evans pinned to the cage. Showing good control, Mousasi keeps Evans stuck against the cage and hits him with short punches to the body for about thirty seconds. Evans takes a sharp stomp to the foot. Evans waits for Mousasi to try some dirty boxing, then quickly uses wrestling to turn him around so that he now has his back to the cage. Evans tries a foot stomp, but that puts him off balance and allows Mousasi to turn him so that he ends up backed against the cage. Mousasi tries to dirty box Evans, but finds himself out-wrestled and turned around so that he is the one against the cage. With the fight having been stuck against the cage for a lengthy period of time, the referee restarts them back in the center. Mousasi throws a speculative right, but it is nowhere near hitting. Evans presses in closer to attack. Evans is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Mousasi. Mousasi keeps himself moving out of range, not wanting to grapple. Evans shoots in for a takedown. Mousasi saw the takedown coming, he tries to grab a guillotine. The takedown is too fast, Mousasi cannot grab the guillotine. Evans drives forward and gets the takedown! Mousasi couldn't quite stop it. The takedown leaves Mousasi seated with his back pressed against the cage. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. You can hear some boos from the audience, they weren't impressed with that round at all. That was a close round, but I'm giving it to Evans, 10-9.

 

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Mousasi fakes shooting in, but Evans doesn't fall for it. Evans drops down as if going for a double leg, but it's just a fake. Mousasi looks to be trying to close the distance between them. They start grappling, Evans looks happy to engage Mousasi at close quarters. With Evans controlled by the clinch, Mousasi looks to be attempting to set up a judo throw. Evans will not go down, he blocks the throw despite the best efforts of Mousasi. Evans tries to get clear of the grapple, but Mousasi holds him in place. Mousasi is trying to push Evans so that his back is up against the cage. He does so, and now has Evans pinned to the cage. Mousasi looks for a foot stomp but Evans takes the opportunity to turn them around so that he is in the dominant position. Gegard Mousasi looks very tired out there. Mousasi is trapped against the cage and held there, unable to do anything, for about a minute. Evans tries to keep him up against the cage with wrestling, but Mousasi struggles and doesn't let himself get controlled. Evans keeps Mousasi up against the cage with wrestling, then uses a hard foot stomp. Mousasi, stuck against the cage, gets blasted with a right hand, but manages to pull Evans in close to stop any more coming in. Rashad Evans doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. With the fighters having been stuck against the cage for quite a while, the referee bringing them back to the center. Looking tired, Evans comes in closer, attempting to wrestle with Mousasi. Mousasi tries to take down Evans as he steps in, but he blocks it. Evans throws a couple of jabs, a set up for a tired-looking takedown attempt on Mousasi. Mousasi first stuffs the takedown attempt, then manages to wrestle Evans the the floor! Evans has to pull half guard. Gegard Mousasi seems to be fighting against exhaustion. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. Incredibly close round, but Mousasi came out just ahead on my score card.

Evans avoids a body kick. Mousasi darts in and out of range quickly, trying to get Evans to commit to throwing a strike. Mousasi feints stepping in. A wayward right kick to the body allows Evans to hit a flurry of jabs and straight punches. Mousasi feints left, then right. Evans throws a couple of jabs, a set up for a tired-looking takedown attempt on Mousasi. Mousasi attempts to avoid Evans as he shoots in. Mousasi avoids the takedown attempt. Rashad Evans seems to be fighting against exhaustion. Mousasi comes in closer, despite his tiredness, looking to attack from the pocket. Evans seems happy to engage with Mousasi in the pocket. Both fighters advance and strike, but neither hits anything. The gas tank looks empty on Gegard Mousasi. A showdown where they both exchange strikes only results in a stalemate. Having stepped in close to throw their strikes, they end up clinched. Evans is looking to muscle Mousasi back against the cage. Mousasi ends up backed against the cage. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. Incredibly close round, but Mousasi came out just ahead on my score card.

The fight begins! Advancing, Ribeiro counters a left jab by using a left jab to the cheek. Ribeiro avoids a jab. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown. Bolinho cannot stop the takedown, and has to pull guard. Ribeiro attempts to pass guard. Bolinho finds his opponent too skilled, and Ribeiro passes guard into side control. Bolinho takes a crunching knee strike to the ribs from under side control! Ribeiro attempts to move to mount. Bolinho can't fend off his opponent and is mounted. Ribeiro fires away with punches, Bolinho is getting pounded. Bolinho is barely able to do anything at all, he cannot get out from under Ribeiro! The referee has seen enough, he pulls Ribeiro off!

Round one begins! Arona grabs a slow leg kick and goes straight for a takedown, and gets it! Orgulho pulls guard. Arona begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. He passes to side control. Arona begins trying to get himself into mount. Advancing his position, he gets mount. Arona has solid control over Orgulho, and starts pounding away with strikes. There's lots of strikes landing, Orgulho needs to find a way out of this position quickly! The referee stops the fight, he didn't feel Orgulho was intelligently defending himself!

Rony Jason out of the UFC on FX.

 

 

Sherdog´s Harry Houghton has just e-mailed in to report that the world going around is that Rony Jason sustained a Neck injury this morning. Early reports are that the injury will rule him out of his scheduled UFC on FX: Aldo vs. Jason match against Jose Aldo, his place, Charles Oliveira (19-3 ; 7-3-1 NC in UFC) was called.

Welterweight Bout: Nate Marquardt vs. Josh Neer

 

Round 1

And here we go! Marquardt sees a body kick coming and hits a crisp jab. Marquardt fakes dropping down for a double leg, but Neer was aware of the danger and backs off. There's a takedown attempt from Marquardt. Neer tries to avoid Marquardt. Neer avoids the takedown attempt. Marquardt is getting in closer to Neer, perhaps looking for a clinch. Marquardt ends up grabbing Neer in a Muay Thai clinch. Marquardt tries a knee strike, but Neer blocks it and wrestles his way out of the Muay Thai clinch. Marquardt keeps out of range, assessing the situation. Neer doesn't press the issue, allowing Marquardt to circle. Marquardt counters a wayward low right kick with a clever combination that finishes with a nice right cross. Neer circles around Marquardt. Marquardt comes in closer to press the issue. Marquardt goes to the body and then to the head with a tidy combination to get Neer to cover up, then shoots in. Neer tries to step away from the takedown. Marquardt doesn't get the takedown, Neer avoided it. Neer uses a right hook to the body, but misses. Marquardt presses in closer to attack. Marquardt looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Marquardt can't get close enough to clinch, Neer makes sure to keep out of range. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. That round goes to Marquardt, 10-9 on my card.

 

Round 2

There's the bell for the start of the round! Marquardt feints going high but then throws a leg kick, Neer just avoids it. Marquardt looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Neer is pulled into a Muay Thai clinch. Marquardt tries a knee strike, but Neer blocks it and wrestles his way out of the Muay Thai clinch. Neer fakes a lunge. Marquardt comes in closer to press the issue. Marquardt is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Neer. Neer uses movement to keep out reach, meaning Marquardt cannot get close enough to grapple. Marquardt comes in closer, looking to clinch with Neer. Marquardt grabs Neer and pulls him into a Muay Thai clinch. Neer grabs an arm and pulls Marquardt out of the Muay Thai clinch and into a regular wrestling clinch instead. Marquardt tries to wrestle Neer backward and up against the cage. Marquardt does it, Neer is stuck with his back to the cage. Marquardt smothers Neer up against the cage while using the occasional short sharp punch to the body, keeping him stuck there for thirty seconds. With the cage trapping Neer, Marquardt gets the underhooks in and looks for a takedown. A sweep of the legs is successful, Neer is floored and Marquardt has no problem getting side control. Marquardt throws a few strikes, but they are without venom. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. Some fans are booing after a round that didn't feature much action. That round goes to Marquardt, 10-9 on my card.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Neer uses a feint to get Marquardt off balance, but the flurry of rights and lefts that follow don't find their mark. Marquardt keeps his cool as Neer throws a feint to the left. Neer steps in, faking as if going for a shot, but Marquardt is alive to the deception. Marquardt sees a right body kick coming, grabs it, shoots in for a takedown, down goes Neer! He pulls guard though. In guard, Marquardt catches his breath, content just to throw a couple of punches to the body. Neer reaches up and tries to lock up an arm. A straight armbar is applied, Marquardt has to tap out before his arm is hyper-extended!

Heavyweight Bout: Mark Hunt vs. Brendan Schaub

 

Round 1

And here we go! A feinted high kick gets a reaction, and Hunt is lucky to avoid the follow-up inside leg kick. They come together and throw strikes, both miss. An attempted big head kick misses badly, setting Schaub up perfectly to counter with a right body kick. Hunt slips out of the way of a jab. Hunt steps back to avoid a kick to the body. Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. In close proximity from the strikes they threw, they fall into a messy clinch. Hunt is trying to muscle Schaub up against the cage. Hunt achieves it, pinning Schaub to the cage. Hunt steps back to achieve some separation from Schaub and gets ready to strike. Schaub avoids a scorching uppercut and come back with a quick series of punches. Schaub avoids a scorching uppercut and come back with a big kick to the outside of the left thigh. In the pocket, Schaub is able to sting Hunt with a kick to the side. Dodging to one side, Schaub counters an attempted knock out punch with a solid right hook to the body. Mark Hunt is breathing very hard. Hunt gets hit with a crisp jab to the jaw, rocking his head back. They exchange strikes, but neither fighter inflicts any real damage. Both fighters come in and throw strikes, there is no real damage done by either. Time expires and we come to the end of round one. I think Schaub took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! Between rounds we could hear the corner of Schaub telling him to use a lot of movement. Moving forward, Schaub counters a series of wayward big punches with a big right kick to the outside of the thigh. Mark Hunt is going to end up limping if he takes too many more of those strikes. Schaub uses a sharp right body kick. There is an exchange of strikes, but neither fighter does any damage. Mark Hunt looks like he is on the verge of exhaustion. Schaub hits a crisp left jab. Moving in closer, a tired-looking Hunt apparently wants to strike from the pocket. A counter right hook catches Hunt hard, almost putting him down! Schaub darts in and out of range quickly, trying to get Hunt to commit to throwing a strike. An exchange of blows doesn't really produce any damage or a clear advantage. Hunt comes in closer, despite his tiredness, looking to attack from the pocket. Schaub strikes first and manages to rock Hunt with a solid right! Schaub feints going high, but Hunt doesn't buy it. Schaub scores with a superb combination of three quick punches to the body and a great right cross. Hunt uses a right hook to the body, but misses. Time slips away as Schaub doesn't press Hunt, allowing him to circle. Schaub throws a leg kick but Hunt avoids it. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. I have to give that round to Schaub, but only a 10-9.

Schaub side-steps an attempted knock out right and hits a flurry of quick punches to sting Hunt. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Schaub.

 

The judges have given their scores, which are about to be announced. All three judges give a score of 30-27.

There's the opening bell! High counters an errant left jab with a series of quick rights. A jab misses, allowing High to counter-strike with a clean right. A straight left fails to land and High is able to fire back with a quick series of punches. A right hand misses, allowing Miller to counter with a clean left. Miller feints to the right, trying to draw High into throwing a strike. Miller steps in but an exchange of strikes goes nowhere. High steps in to put some pressure on. High is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Miller. He pulls Miller into a grapple. High attempts to pick Miller up for a slam. There's the slam! Miller is planted onto his back, and pulls guard. High begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. Miller comfortably blocks the attempt and keeps High in guard. Miller grabs hold of an arm and attempts a triangle choke on High from the bottom of the guard. High pulls his arm free before the triangle can be locked in. Time slips away as High successfully keeps Miller stuck against the ground. In guard, High catches his breath, content just to throw a couple of punches to the body. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out. That was a yawner of a round, and I think both fighters are now a bit frustrated. That round goes to High, 10-9 on my card.

 

Round 2

We are back underway! Moving forward, High counters a left jab with a series of quick rights. Miller tries for a left jab but High moves out of range. High avoids a quick jab and hits a quick series of punches. A flicked jab from Miller only finds gloves. It seems that High is happy to let Miller circle for the moment. High avoids a jab and scores with a couple of hard left hands! High looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Miller finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Miller tries to wriggle free, but High controls him well and gets in a few close-range punches too. High is looking to muscle Miller back against the cage. He does so, and now has Miller pinned to the cage. Miller, stuck against the cage, gets blasted with a left hand, but manages to pull High in close to stop any more coming in. Miller is trapped against the cage and held there, unable to do anything, for about a minute. Unable to get free, Miller is smothered up against the cage for the little that remains of the round. Round two ends as time expires. That was a bit of a snoozer, hopefully the next round brings a little more action. I think High took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 3

We are back underway! Moving forward, Miller counters a right jab with a jab. Miller chooses to shoot in on High. High tries to step away from the takedown. The takedown doesn't work, High saw it coming and got out of range. High moves out of range of a flurry of punches. Miller glances a strike off the side of the shoulder. The fight slows as High sits back and allows Miller to circle. High drops a shoulder, trying to sucker Miller in with a feint. Miller bobs and weaves. High seems to be waiting for Miller to make a move. Miller gets High with a punch to the ribs, but it lacked power. Not letting Miller settle, High moves in closer. Miller avoids a jab. Jason High is looking really tired. Miller throws a couple of jabs, then chooses to shoot in on High. Miller can't get the takedown, High defends it well and pulls them into a clinch. High has gotten underhooks in and is looking to take Miller to the ground. Miller cannot stop being lifted up and blasted with a Greco-Roman slam, he can only pull guard! High smothers Miller with his body by pushing forward and down. The fight comes to an end as the time limit expires. I think High took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

The ring announcer is now giving the official scores. All three judges have scored it 30-27.

Lightweight Bout: Anthony Pettis vs. Eddie Alvarez

 

Round 1

The fight begins! Pettis counters a left jab by using a vicious push kick, connecting hard enough to put Alvarez down! Alvarez shakes off the blow almost immediately though, and waits for Pettis to make a move. Pettis tries to secure a ground position. Pettis dives in, but Alvarez pushes him away and starts to scramble. Neither fighter manages to impose himself in the scramble, and they both end up standing. A tidy combination doesn't find a home, giving Pettis the opportunity to counter with a superb spinning back roundhouse kick, putting Alvarez down, dazed! Pettis starts pounding away on Alvarez, looking to finish him off! Dazed as he is, Alvarez still manages to do the smart thing and pull half guard. In half guard, Pettis catches his breath, content just to throw a couple of punches to the body. Pettis fires off a few punches, but they aren't thrown with any great force. Pettis begins trying to get his leg free of half guard and get a better position. He can't quite manage to get past half guard on this attempt. Alvarez tries to sweep Pettis but can't do it. Pettis punches down at Alvarez, but they are easily taken on the gloves. Alvarez attempts to secure an arm. Alvarez cannot secure the arm. Pettis keeps Alvarez guessing with a few quick strikes. Alvarez reaches over and tries to lock up an arm. Alvarez gets a kimura fully applied! No! He pops free. That was really close. The time runs out on round one. I have to give that round to Pettis, but only a 10-9.

And here we go, round two! Between rounds we could hear the corner of Pettis telling him to go right at Alvarez, hard and fast. A wayward low right kick allows Alvarez to hit an excellent combination. Pettis throws a feint. Alvarez steps back to avoid a stunning flying head kick. An attempted teep is off-target and gives Alvarez the chance to counter with a crunching right hook to the body. Pettis fakes a shot, but gets no reaction from Alvarez. Pettis looks to move in and stand in the pocket. The two fighters move closer, ready to strike. Stepping back, Pettis creates a bit of distance. Pettis tries for a spinning back kick but Alvarez moves out of range. Alvarez doesn't get drawn in as Pettis feints a kick. Alvarez feints an attack, keeping Pettis on his toes. Pettis comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Pettis is now standing in the pocket. Alvarez avoids a left jab and pulls Pettis into a clinch. With underhooks giving him solid control over Pettis, Alvarez looks for a takedown. Alvarez gets the takedown by using the underhooks for control and working a trip! Pettis pulls guard. Alvarez is trying to pass guard. Pettis keeps his guard secure. Round two ends as time expires. I have to give that round to Alvarez, but only a 10-9.

There's the bell and round number three begins! Pettis feints left and throws an excellent combination but Alvarez is just able to cover up in time. They come together and strike, but neither can land a clean shot. In close proximity from the strikes they threw, they fall into a messy clinch. Alvarez uses underhooks to gain solid control, and is looking for a takedown. The underhooks are used to set up a trip, Pettis is left on his back and has to pull guard. Alvarez begins trying to pass the guard. He can't get free of the guard. Pettis tries to sweep Alvarez but doesn't get anywhere. In guard, Alvarez begins working to pass to side control. He can't get free of the guard. Securing an arm, Pettis then brings his legs up and tries to lock Alvarez in a triangle choke. Alvarez defends well against it. Alvarez tries to control Pettis against the ground, but finds it a struggle. Grabbing an arm, Pettis attempts to lock on a triangle choke. Alvarez defends well against it. The lack of progress forces the referee to stand the fighters back up. Moving in closer, Pettis looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. The two fighters move closer, ready to strike. The time expires on round three, and that is the end of the fight. I have to give that round to Alvarez, but only a 10-9.

Henderson grabs Silva and pulls him into a grapple. Henderson is looking to muscle Silva back against the cage. Henderson can't do it though, and ends up being out-wrestled in the grapple. Silva tries to suck Henderson to the ground by wrapping his legs around the waist and pulling guard. It's no use though, Henderson doesn't budge and instead takes control of the clinch. Using his wrestling skills, Henderson is trying to push Silva up against the cage. Henderson can't do it though, and ends up being out-wrestled in the grapple. Wanting to take it to the ground, Silva attempts to drag Henderson down into his guard. It's no use though, Henderson doesn't budge and instead takes control of the clinch. Henderson is trying to push Silva so that his back is up against the cage. Silva doesn't let himself be driven back though, and gains a dominant position in the grapple instead. Clinched with Henderson, Silva looks to try and take him down. Silva gets the takedown! Henderson pulls guard. Silva begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. We are back underway! Henderson sees a body kick coming and hits a nice jab. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Henderson. The takedown doesn't work, Silva sprawled to defend it and then works into a clinch position. Silva attempts to wrestle Henderson to the ground. The takedown doesn't work, Henderson defended it well. Breathing very hard, Thiago Silva is looking ragged. A whizzer allows Henderson to execute a sharp turn, creating enough space so that he can pull free of the grappling. Moving in closer, Henderson looks like he may want to wrestle Silva. They start grappling, Silva looks happy to engage Henderson at close quarters. Henderson tries to suck Silva to the ground by wrapping his legs around the waist and pulling guard. The attempt is successful, Silva is sucked down into his guard. Henderson attempts a guillotine choke from the bottom. Silva pulls free before the guillotine can be applied. Silva looks to get past the guard. Silva isn't able to pass guard on this attempt. Henderson tries to lock onto an arm from the bottom of the guard. Silva almost falls victim to a kimura, but in the end settles for being swept into side control. Dan Henderson doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. Thiago Silva looks like he doesn't have a lot left to give. I wonder if the big weight cut is beginning to really take its toll? Henderson attempts an americana. Silva fights off the americana attempt. Silva tries to grab an arm-in guillotine. Silva cannot get it applied. Henderson starts trying to work to use side control as a way to get behind Silva. He takes the back! The time runs out on round two. I have to give that round to Henderson, but only a 10-9.

 

Round 3

Round three begins! Henderson tries for a left jab but Silva moves out of range. A jab doesn't find its intended target, allowing Silva to fire back with a nice left hand. Henderson counters a weak right kick with a series of quick lefts. Henderson circles, looking for an opening. The fight slows as Silva sits back and allows Henderson to circle. Dan Henderson looks like he is on the verge of exhaustion. A tired-looking Henderson throws a couple of ragged punches to get Silva to cover up, then tries a takedown. Silva attempts to avoid Henderson as he shoots in. Silva avoids the takedown attempt. Henderson tries for a left jab but Silva moves out of range. A straight left from Silva fails to land. Not letting up, Henderson steps in closer to pressure Silva into action. Henderson comes in closer, despite his tiredness, looking to attack from the pocket. Silva uses movement to keep out reach, frustrating Henderson. Thiago Silva looks like he is completely out of gas. Despite being tired, Henderson looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Silva. Henderson is in the pocket, ready to attack Silva. There's a ragged-looking double leg attempt from Henderson, from the pocket. Silva sprawls well, and Henderson is forced down to his knees, almost turtled up. Dan Henderson looks exhausted. Silva moves quickly to try and lock Henderson in a D'Arce choke! Henderson can't get it. Silva floats over and takes the back. Silva attempts to use his legs to get an armbar. The armbar is locked in, Henderson has nowhere to go...but is saved by the end of the round! We reach the time limit and this fight is over. That round goes to Silva, 10-9 on my card.

 

The judges have given their scores, which are about to be announced. All three judges have given 29-28.

Heavyweight Bout: Shane Carwin vs. Alistair Overeem

 

Round 1

Round one begins! Both fighters fire off strikes, but neither does any significant damage. Carwin slips out of the way of a combination of short sharp punches. Overeem shoots in for a takedown. Carwin sees the takedown coming and tries to move. The takedown is unsuccessful, Carwin avoided Overeem. Carwin throws a swift jab but doesn't do any damage. Not letting up, Overeem quickly steps in closer to attack Carwin. Carwin avoids a jab. Overeem uses a nice combination as a set up, then shoots in for a takedown. Carwin stuffs the takedown attempt. Overeem is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Carwin. Carwin finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Overeem has worked in the underhooks and looks to take Carwin down. Overeem can't get the takedown, Carwin defended it well. Carwin tries to uses a whizzer to turn Overeem, but is blocked from doing so. Overeem tries to pick Carwin up for a slam. He can't get it though, Carwin defends it and pulls away from the grapple entirely. Carwin counters a wayward low right kick with a nice jab. There's a takedown attempt from Carwin. Overeem cannot stop the takedown, and has to pull guard. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Carwin.

 

Round 2

There's the bell for the start of the round! Overeem feints left and throws an excellent combination but Carwin is just able to cover up in time. A straight left fails to land and Overeem is able to fire back with a right hook, sending Carwin staggering backward and then down to the floor! Overeem dives in quickly and secures mount on the dazed Carwin! Overeem has solid control over Carwin, and starts pounding away with strikes. Carwin had better start defending himself, or this will be over! The referee gives Carwin time to do something, but eventually has to come in and stop the fight!

 

Alistair Overeem takes the victory by way of TKO!

We, the staff here at UFC, are of course the guardians of Mixed Martial Art´s most prestigious honour, the UFC Hall of Fame. We´re proud to announce a new inductee today, Dan 'Hendo' Henderson. Recently calling time on a career that saw him fight his way to a career record of 31-11, we feel that the American fighter has more than earned his spot in the hall. Congratulations to him!

Round 1

We are underway! Thiago steps back to avoid a one-two combination. A tight combination narrowly misses Thiago and allow him to counter-strike with a crisp left hand punch. Page moves in quickly after a wayward punch and hits a crisp left hand punch. Page feints going high but then throws a leg kick, Thiago just avoids it. Thiago avoids a kick to the leg and hits a crisp jab. Thiago comes in, looking for a quick takedown. Thiago is stopped by a good sprawl, and is pulled down to the ground in a loose front facelock until he is on his knees. Thiago doesn't let Page roll him onto his back. Page is too slow to stop Thiago getting back up. An exchange of blows doesn't really produce any damage or a clear advantage. Page tries for a spinning heel kick but Thiago moves out of range. Thiago avoids a spinning back kick, which was set up with a nice feint. Page moves in quickly after a wayward punch and hits a crisp left hand punch. Page feints going high but then throws a leg kick, Thiago just avoids it. Round one is brought to an end as time runs out. I think Page took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

 

Round 2

We are back underway! Set up with a feinted low kick, Page catches Thiago on the side of the head with a flying knee, knocking him down! Thiago shakes off the cobwebs quickly though, and is alert. On his back, Thiago watches as Page comes in looking to get a dominant ground position. Thiago moves quickly, scrambling for position before Page can get a hold. The scramble leaves Thiago on his back pulling half guard. Page throws a few strikes, but is clearly slowing things down so that he can catch his breath. Page tries to ensnare Thiago in an arm triangle. Thiago blocks it. Thiago bursts into life and tries to scramble into a better position. Neither fighter can gain an advantage in the scramble, and they both end up on their feet. Thiago shoots in for a takedown. Page attempts to avoid Thiago as he shoots in. Page avoids the takedown attempt. Page comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Thiago tries to single leg Page as he steps in, but he is too quick to step away. Thiago avoids a right kick to the body and hits a solid left. Page counters a left jab with a crisp jab. Thiago looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Page. Page uses his strikes to stop Thiago from getting close enough to grapple. The time runs out on round two. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Page.

 

Round 3

Round three begins! Page slips out of the way of a head kick. Thiago moves out of range of a tidy combination of punches. Thiago looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Page. Page ends up grappling for supremacy with Thiago. Thiago tries to suck Page to the ground by wrapping his legs around the waist and pulling guard. Page defends against it well, and takes control of the clinch. Thiago gets caught with a couple of nice short punches as Page uses his dirty boxing to inflict some punishment. Using his wrestling skills, Page is trying to push Thiago up against the cage. Thiago ends up backed against the cage. Page hits a knee strike to the thigh. Page takes a short step back and prepares to strike. Page leaps and hits a close range flying knee strike that catches Thiago flush, knocking him out cold!

 

The winner, by Knock Out, is Michael 'Venon' Page!

Flyweight Bout: Alexandre Franca Nogueira vs. Sheymon Moraes

 

Round 1

And here we go! Moraes avoids a flurry of punches and hits a nice jab. A left hand misses, allowing Moraes to counter with a solid left jab. Moraes slips past a left jab and counters with a left jab to the cheek. An exchange of strikes doesn't lead to any real damage. Both fighters fire off strikes, neither produces any significant damage. A couple of quick punches are used to set up a takedown attempt from Pequeno. Moraes tries to avoid the takedown. The takedown is unsuccessful, Moraes avoided Pequeno. Moraes misses with an attempted right hook to the body. Not letting Moraes settle at all, Pequeno comes in closer. Moving in closer, Pequeno looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. He gets into range. Standing in the pocket, Pequeno chooses to shoot in for a double leg on Moraes. A good sprawl stops the takedown, and Pequeno is brought down to the mat in a loose front facelock. Rolled over from turtle position Pequeno is left caught in side control. Moraes unloads with massive elbows from side control, and Pequeno is getting destroyed! The referee has no option but to leap in and stop the fight!

 

The winner, by TKO, is Sheymon Moraes!

Light Heavyweight Bout: Ricardo Arona vs. Alexandre Ribeiro

 

Round 1

And here we go! Ribeiro counters a leg kick by grabbing it and attempting a takedown, getting it! Arona gets half guard. Ribeiro looks to pass half guard and get side control. Arona doesn't let Ribeiro get his leg free, and so half guard remains in place. Arona tries to sweep Ribeiro but doesn't get anywhere. Ribeiro looks to pass half guard and get side control. He can't get free of half guard. Arona takes the opportunity to transition from half guard to full guard. Ribeiro is trying to pass guard. Arona is ready for the attempt though, and keeps Ribeiro firmly in guard. Arona glances an elbow strike off the top of the head of Ribeiro. Arona doesn't allow Ribeiro to smother him against the ground. Arona works some separation, and Ribeiro ends up standing looking down at him. Ribeiro tries to come in and secure a ground position. Arona scoots backward as soon as Ribeiro comes in, initiating a scramble for position. Arona ends up in guard. Arona throws a few weak-looking punches as he decides on his next move. Arona leans back to avoid a couple of wild swings from Ribeiro. Arona throws a few weak-looking punches as he decides on his next move. Ribeiro attempts to lock on a triangle choke. Arona counters the triangle attempt superbly by twisting out of it and gaining side control. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. That was a very close round, but I think Ribeiro just about edged it.

 

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Ribeiro feints to the right, trying to draw Arona into throwing a strike. Ribeiro chooses to shoot in on Arona. Ribeiro finds his takedown blocked with a sprawl, and Arona promptly wrestles him to the ground, ending up on top, in guard. Arona looks to get past the guard. He finds himself unable to pass guard on this attempt. Arona blocks an attempted sweep. Arona begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. Arona isn't able to pass guard on this attempt. Ribeiro tries to lock onto an arm from the bottom of the guard. Arona pulls his arm free, brilliantly moving to side control in the same moment. Arona begins trying to get himself into mount. Arona isn't able to mount Ribeiro this time around. Arona feels Ribeiro prepare to scramble for position and makes sure it doesn't happen. Arona tries to slip behind and take the back. He can't quite manage to get it on this attempt. Ribeiro attempts to secure an arm-in guillotine. Arona alters his posture to prevent it. The time is up, and that's the end of round two. Not much happened in that round, hopefully the fighters will pick up the pace a bit when we restart. That round goes to Arona, 10-9 on my card.

 

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Arona feints rushing in, but withdraws. Arona tries for a left jab but Ribeiro moves out of range. Ricardo Arona looks like he doesn't have a lot left to give. A tired Ribeiro moves forward, looking for a takedown. The takedown is unsuccessful, Arona blocked Ribeiro. Looking tired, Arona comes in closer, attempting to wrestle with Ribeiro. He pulls Ribeiro into a grapple. Arona is looking to muscle Ribeiro back against the cage. Ribeiro doesn't let himself be driven back though, and gains a dominant position in the grapple instead. From the looks of things, I don't think Alexandre Ribeiro has much energy left. Ribeiro tries to pick Arona up for a slam. Arona doesn't allow himself to be lifted, and he gets away from Ribeiro. A jab misses and Arona counters with a series of quick lefts. Although visibly tired, Arona looks to move in and stand in the pocket. Arona is in the pocket, ready to attack Ribeiro. A drained-looking Arona tries to close the distance between them. Arona grabs Ribeiro and pulls him into a grapple. The gas tank looks empty on Ricardo Arona. Arona tries to wrestle Ribeiro backward and up against the cage. Arona manages it, and controls Ribeiro up against the cage. Arona tries to smother Ribeiro against the cage, but is struggling to maintain control. Arona suddenly finds a standing guillotine choke slapped on him! Ribeiro gets the guillotine sunk in and Arona has to tap!

 

The winner, by submission; Alexandre Ribeiro!

Masvidal grabs Cavalcante and pulls him into a grapple. The grappling doesn't go anywhere, and they break apart. Masvidal comes in closer, looking to clinch with Cavalcante. Cavalcante keeps himself moving out of range, not wanting to clinch. Masvidal comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Cavalcante. Cavalcante ends up grappling for supremacy with Masvidal. Masvidal misses with a foot stomp. Cavalcante is controlled up against the cage and eats a sharp right to the ear. Cavalcante takes a hard knee strike to the inside of his own knee. Cavalcante is trapped against the cage and Masvidal hits him with a short left uppercut. Masvidal hits Cavalcante, who is pressed up against the cage, with a nice short uppercut. Cavalcante is trapped against the cage and Masvidal hits him with a short left uppercut. Masvidal nails Cavalcante with a hard right hand to the side of the head, stunning him. Masvidal drives a knee to the thigh area twice in quick succession. Having been stuck against the cage for a while without any progress, the referee brings them back to the center. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Masvidal.

 

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! Cavalcante feints to the right, trying to draw Masvidal into throwing a strike. Masvidal looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Cavalcante. A counter right hook catches Masvidal hard, almost putting him down! Cavalcante goes to the body and then to the head with a tidy combination to get Masvidal to cover up, then shoots in. Masvidal tries to avoid Cavalcante. The takedown is unsuccessful, Masvidal avoided Cavalcante. Cavalcante comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Standing his ground, Masvidal looks happy to engage Cavalcante in the pocket. Masvidal looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Cavalcante. They start grappling, Cavalcante looks happy to engage Masvidal at close quarters. Cavalcante looks for a trip takedown. He has the takedown! Masvidal pulls guard. Masvidal is controlled against the ground, unable to shift Cavalcante off of him. Cavalcante smothers Masvidal with his body by pushing forward and down. Cavalcante is trying to pass guard. Cavalcante isn't able to pass guard on this attempt. Masvidal secures an arm and tries to ensnare Cavalcante in a triangle. Cavalcante defends well against it. Cavalcante begins trying to pass guard and get a better position. He eventually passes, but only into half guard. Cavalcante tries to pass the half guard. He can't get free of half guard. Time expires and we come to the end of round two. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Cavalcante.

 

Round 3

Round three begins! Cavalcante avoids a barrage of big right hands. Jorge Masvidal looks very tired out there. Masvidal feints stepping in. Masvidal avoids a jab and scores with a left jab to the cheek. Both fighters go to exchange blows, but neither hits a telling strike. Not comfortable in the pocket, Masvidal steps back and creates some space. There's a takedown attempt from Cavalcante. Masvidal sees the takedown coming and tries to move. Masvidal avoids the takedown attempt. Moving in closer, Cavalcante looks like he may want to wrestle Masvidal. Masvidal finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Cavalcante tries to lock his legs around the waist of Masvidal, wanting to pull him down to the floor. Masvidal cannot prevent it, and is sucked into the guard. Cavalcante tries to ensnare Masvidal in a guillotine. Cavalcante uses the guillotine hold to sweep into side control. Cavalcante tries to lock Masvidal into an armbar. The armbar is fully applied, Masvidal has no option but to tap out!

 

The winner, by submission, is Gesias 'JZ' Cavalcante!

Round 1

There's the opening bell! Aldo darts in, feints a jab, darts back out. Several big right hands miss, setting Oliveira up to counter-strike with a tasty jab - right cross combination. Aldo fakes as if going for a single leg, keeping Oliveira on his toes. Aldo throws a barrage of big right hands after using a feint to trick Oliveira into committing to a strike, but he moves out of range just in time. Oliveira slips out of the way of a jab. Aldo is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Aldo is in the pocket, ready to attack Oliveira. Aldo dodges a jab, and fires back with a clean punch. Oliveira uses head movement to cause a left jab to sail harmlessly by. Oliveira looks like he might be trying to get in close to clinch with Aldo. Oliveira can't get close enough to clinch, Aldo makes sure to keep out of range. Aldo comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Aldo is now standing in the pocket. Using good head movement, Aldo slips past a tight combination and hits a clean left jab. Oliveira slips past a jab and scores with a solid right hook to the body. Oliveira throws a left jab but Aldo uses good head movement to make sure it slips by. A barrage of big right hands are thrown but Oliveira covers up well. Aldo circles away, creating some distance between them. Oliveira hops around from foot to foot, looking for an opening. Not letting up, Aldo quickly steps in closer to attack Oliveira. Time expires and we come to the end of round one. An extremely close round, could have gone either way, but personally I'll give it to Aldo 10-9.

 

Round 2

Round two begins! Between rounds, his corner told Oliveira to watch for strikes but to be aware of takedown opportunities. Aldo throws a barrage of big right hands but Oliveira moves out of range. Aldo throws a barrage of big rights but Oliveira is quick to move out of range. Oliveira isn't drawn in by Aldo feinting to his left. Aldo drops his shoulder and feints to step in, but Oliveira isn't buying it. A straight left from Aldo fails to land. Oliveira doesn't press the issue, allowing Aldo to circle. Aldo looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Oliveira. Oliveira now has Aldo standing in the pocket. Slipping past the blow, Oliveira counters an attempted knock out punch with a quick series of punches. Oliveira avoids a scorching uppercut and come back with a flurry of quick punches. Aldo manages to avoid a nice combination and counters with a huge right cross and Oliveira is knocked clean out!
