Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! Judging from what we heard from his corner, Kampmann is looking to avoid strikes and take it to the ground in this round. From the grapple, Koscheck tries to work in some close-range strikes, but Kampmann is alert and smothers them quickly. Koscheck is trying to push Kampmann so that his back is up against the cage. Kampmann doesn't let himself be driven back though, and gains a dominant position in the grapple instead. Kampmann tries to take Koscheck down. Thiago is controlled up against the cage and takes a few right hands via some dirty boxing. Thiago takes a sharp stomp to the foot. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. Lightweight Bout: Gray Maynard vs. Danny Castillo

Round 1

We are underway! Moving forward, Castillo counters a left jab with a series of quick jabs. Maynard looks to be trying to close the distance between them. Castillo finds himself pulled into a Muay Thai clinch. Maynard finds an attempted knee strike caught, and the leverage allows Castillo to wrestle free of the Muay Thai clinch. Castillo throws out a couple of jabs as a set up, then shoots in for a takedown. Castillo doesn't get the takedown, Maynard was equal to it and pulls them into a clinch. Maynard tries to wrestle Castillo backward and up against the cage. He does so, and now has Castillo pinned to the cage. Maynard smothers Castillo against the cage and stomps down on his foot. Maynard tries to throw an elbow, but Castillo uses wrestling to prevent him from launching the strike. Castillo is pressed up against the cage and simply can't break the control that Maynard has over him. This goes on for about a minute. With the fight having been stuck against the cage for a lengthy period of time, the referee restarts them back in the center. Maynard is getting in closer to Castillo, perhaps looking for a clinch. Maynard cannot get close enough to the elusive Castillo to clinch. Maynard avoids a flurry of punches. Maynard circles as he plans his next move. Castillo quickly gets in closer, looking to attack. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. You can hear some boos from the audience, they weren't impressed with that round at all. I have to give that round to Maynard, but only a 10-9.

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Castillo avoids a barrage of punches and hits a solid left jab. Moving in closer, Maynard looks like he may want to wrestle Castillo. He pulls Castillo into a grapple. Maynard tries to wrestle Castillo backward and up against the cage. Maynard manages it, and controls Castillo up against the cage. Maynard tries to keep him up against the cage with wrestling, but Castillo reverses so that he is the one in control. Showing how good he can be at controlling opponents, Castillo keeps Maynard stuck against the cage for about thirty seconds. Castillo tries to keep Maynard up against the cage for some dirty boxing, but Maynard reverses so that he is the one in control. Maynard tries to smother Castillo against the cage with wrestling, but he reverses it and pushes Maynard against the cage instead. With the cage trapping Maynard, Castillo gets the underhooks in and looks for a takedown. Maynard shows stubborn resistance and Castillo cannot complete the takedown. Gray Maynard looks very tired out there. Maynard turns Castillo slightly, but can't create enough space to get free of the clinch. Castillo has gotten underhooks in and is looking to take Maynard to the ground. Maynard blocks the takedown attempt and turns Castillo around so that he has his back to the cage. Maynard tries to smother Castillo against the cage with wrestling, but he reverses it and pushes Maynard against the cage instead. Castillo has gotten underhooks in and is looking to take Maynard to the ground. Maynard digs in and manages to defend the takedown. Danny Castillo is breathing very hard. Round two ends as time expires. That was a very close round, but I think Maynard just about edged it.

Round 3

There's the bell for the start of the round! Castillo slips past a left jab and fires back with a series of quick lefts. Castillo avoids a jab and scores with a left jab to the cheek. A jab misses and Castillo counters with a solid left. Looking tired, Maynard comes in closer, attempting to wrestle with Castillo. Castillo doesn't let Maynard settle, stepping in closer to impose himself. Castillo comes in closer, despite his tiredness, looking to attack from the pocket. Maynard lets Castillo get closer. Maynard slips past a straight punch and hits a jab. Slipping past the blow, Maynard counters an attempted knock out punch with a nice left. A left jab misses the mark and allows Maynard to counter with a hard leg kick. Using head movement, Maynard slips past a left jab and counters with a kick to the outside of the knee. Strikes to the leg like that will take their toll. Castillo sees a low kick being set up and takes the opportunity to strike first with a sequence of quick punches. Danny Castillo looks like he is on the verge of exhaustion. Both fighters throw strikes at the same time, both miss. A left jab misses, giving Maynard the chance to hit back with a clean punch. Seeing a low kick coming, Castillo strikes first with a nice sequence of jabs. Maynard shows good head movement to avoid getting caught with a jab. Good head movement allows Maynard to avoid a flurry of rights and lefts. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. There was very little to separate them in that round, but I'll give that one 10-9 to Maynard.

The ring announcer is now giving the official scores.

Judge #1 has scored it 29-28 Castillo.

Judge #2 has scored it 29-28 Maynard.

Judge #3 gives a score of 30-27 in favour of Maynard.

Bantamweight Bout: Joe Soto vs. Raphael Assunçao

Round 1

And here we go! An exchange of strikes doesn't really lead to anything. Moving in closer, Soto looks like he may want to wrestle Assuncao. Assuncao ends up grappling for supremacy with Soto. Soto and Assuncao break the grapple and are apart again, circling. Moving in closer, Assuncao looks like he may want to try and clinch with Soto. Soto uses movement to keep out reach, meaning Assuncao cannot get close enough to clinch. Both fighters throw strikes, no significant damage is inflicted by either. Soto bobs and weaves. Not letting up, Assuncao quickly steps in closer to attack Soto. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Assuncao. Soto tries to step away from the takedown. Assuncao can't get the takedown, Soto was too quick to back away. Assuncao looks like he might be trying to get in close to clinch with Soto. Not keen on getting too close to Assuncao, Soto uses movement to keep out of reach. Soto throws three punches in quick succession, but Assuncao was out of range. Assuncao steps in to put some pressure on. Round one ends as time expires. Boos echo around the arena after that round produced little in the way of entertainment. An extremely close round, could have gone either way, but personally I'll give it to Soto 10-9.

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! A jab doesn't find its intended target, allowing Assuncao to fire back with a jab. Assuncao counters a left jab by using a kick to the inside of the left leg. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Assuncao. Soto tries to avoid the takedown. The takedown is successful, Soto pulls guard. Assuncao attempts to pass guard and gain a better position. Advancing his position fairly easily, he passes to side control. Assuncao attempts to roll Soto slightly and take his back. Soto is in big trouble as he is forced to give up his back! Soto is in increasing trouble, as Assuncao gets both hooks in. With both hooks in, Assuncao tries to flatten Soto out for the rear naked choke. The rear naked choke is fully applied, Assuncao has Soto flattened out completely, there is no option but to tap out!

By submission, the winner is Raphael Assuncao!

Lightweight Bout: Diego Sanchez vs. Evan Dunham

Round 1

A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Dunham. Sanchez saw the takedown coming, he tries to grab a guillotine. Sanchez can't get the guillotine choke. The takedown is completed, Sanchez is on his back and pulls guard. Dunham starts trying to work to get past the guard. He can't get free of the guard. Dunham tries to grab a leg to prepare Sanchez for a kneebar. Sanchez fights off the kneebar attempt. Sanchez works some separation, then tries to quickly scramble his way into a better position. Dunham ends up in side control. Dunham hits a knee strike to the ribs, but it didn't connect properly because Sanchez was moving too much. Dunham punches down at Sanchez, but they are easily taken on the gloves. Round one ends as time expires. That round goes to Dunham, 10-9 on my card.

Round 2

And here we go, round two! Between rounds, his corner told Sanchez to be aggressive and really let his hands go. Sanchez darts in, feints a jab, darts back out. An attempted inside leg kick misses, giving Sanchez the opportunity to counter with a sudden huge right hand that knocks Dunham out cold!

By Knock Out, the winner is Diego Sanchez!

Middleweight Bout: Lyoto Machida vs. Tim Boetsch

Round 1

We are underway! Both fighters come toe-to-toe and strike, but none of the strikes result in significant damage being done. A left jab misses, Machida counters with a huge left hand and Boetsch is knocked down! Boetsch shakes off the blow almost immediately though, and waits for Machida to make a move. On his back, Boetsch watches as Machida comes in looking to get a dominant ground position. Machida dives in, but Boetsch pushes him away and starts to scramble. The scramble fails to secure either fighter a dominant position, and they both end up standing. Machida avoids a jab. Boetsch comes in closer, looking to wrestle with Machida. Machida is pulled into a grapple. Boetsch looks to get some strikes in, but Machida seizes the moment and wrestles his way into control of the grapple. Machida looks for a trip takedown. Machida can't get the takedown, as Boetsch wrestles his way into a dominant position. Boetsch is looking to muscle Machida back against the cage. Boetsch can't manage it, and Machida gets out of the grapple entirely. Machida counters an attempted spinning back fist with a right jab to the cheek. A nicely executed one-two combination sets up a takedown attempt from Machida. Boetsch stuffs the takedown attempt and then pulls Machida into a clinch. The grapple breaks up after a short struggle, and the two fighters step apart. Machida is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Machida is now standing in the pocket. There's a stalemate as both fighters throw strikes, but neither scores. Boetsch backs away to create some more space. Machida keeps his cool as Boetsch throws a feint to the left. Round one ends as time expires. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Machida.

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! Between rounds we could hear the corner of Boetsch telling him to be wary of Machida trying takedowns. An exchange of strikes doesn't really lead to anything. A jab misses, allowing Machida to counter-strike with a lightning fast couple of jabs and a left cross. Machida feints going high but then throws a leg kick, Boetsch just avoids it. Boetsch steps back to avoid a tight combination of punches after falling for a clever feint. Machida looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Boetsch. Machida cannot get close enough to the elusive Boetsch. Machida throws a speculative left, but it is nowhere near hitting. Boetsch doesn't press the issue, allowing Machida to circle. There's a stalemate as both fighters throw strikes but neither hits. Machida dodges a jab, and fires back with a solid right jab. Machida throws a kick to the body but Boetsch dodges it. There's a double leg attempt from Machida, from the pocket. The takedown is stuffed, so Machida has to go to settle for pushing Boetsch up against the cage. Machida tries to use his dirty boxing skills, but Boetsch uses wrestling to prevent any strikes from being launched. Machida tries to foot stomp Boetsch, but he puts himself off balance and gets turned around against the cage. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Machida.

Round 3

There's the bell and round number three begins! Boetsch feints rushing in, but withdraws. Boetsch slips out of the way of a jab. Lyoto Machida doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. Boetsch feints stepping in. Boetsch comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Boetsch can't get near enough to engage, Machida uses strikes to keep him out of range. There is an exchange of strikes, but neither fighter does any damage. Tim Boetsch is breathing very hard. A feint puts him off balance, but Boetsch is still able to slip out of the way of a body kick. Machida doesn't get drawn in as Boetsch feints a kick. Boetsch circles, looking for an opening. Machida doesn't press the issue, allowing Boetsch to circle. Boetsch comes in closer, despite his tiredness, looking to attack from the pocket. Strikes from Machida keep Boetsch from stepping in too close. Boetsch darts in, feints a jab, darts back out. Slowed down by physical tiredness, Boetsch still looks to get in close and strike from the pocket. To counter, Machida throws a huge left hook which doesn't miss by much. The time runs out and that round is over, and so is the fight. That round goes to Machida, 10-9 on my card.

The judges' scores are now being announced. The judges score the contest as 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
