Main Event

Welterweight Bout: Georges St.Pierre vs. Rick Story

Round 1

We are underway! There's a takedown attempt from St. Pierre. Story attempts to snare St. Pierre in a guillotine off the takedown. The takedown is too fast, Story cannot grab the guillotine. Story cannot stop the takedown, and has to pull guard. St. Pierre starts trying to work to get past the guard. He passes guard fairly easily, getting to side control. St. Pierre starts trying to work to use side control as a way to get behind Story. Story tries to escape but only succeeds in giving up his back! St. Pierre tries to lock Story in an armbar. St. Pierre rolls to try and get the armbar, but Story pulls free and easily secures side control. Story attempts to americana St. Pierre from side control. St. Pierre fights off the americana attempt. St. Pierre tries to ensnare an arm. St. Pierre cannot secure the arm. The referee decides that there is a lack of progress being made and stands them back up.

The time is up, and that's the end of round one. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of St. Pierre.

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! St. Pierre looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with Story. Story sees a chance to dive for a single leg, but St. Pierre is able to defend against it. There's a takedown attempt from Story. St. Pierre tries to hook a guillotine as Story comes in. The takedown is too good, the attempted guillotine is lost. The takedown drives St. Pierre backward, but he uses a nice turn of the hips to spin them around. St. Pierre ends up pressing Story against the cage. St. Pierre launches a knee strike but Story is ready, catches the leg, and uses some wrestling to turn it around so that St. Pierre is the one against the cage. St. Pierre blocks the takedown attempt and turns Story around so that he has his back to the cage. St. Pierre catches Story with a knee strike to the thigh. St. Pierre tries to maintain control, but Story wrestles his way out of trouble and turns it so that St. Pierre ends up backed against the cage. St. Pierre tries to keep him up against the cage with wrestling, but Story reverses so that he is the one in control. With the fight having been stuck against the cage for a lengthy period of time, the referee restarts them back in the center. Time expires and we come to the end of round two. There was very little to separate them in that round, but I'll give that one 10-9 to St. Pierre.

Round 3

And here we go, round three! Story drives forward and gets the takedown! St. Pierre couldn't quite stop it. St. Pierre is left seated, with his back to the cage, with Story holding him down. Story looks to get a more dominant position by pushing St. Pierre from a seated position onto his back. He is too good for St. Pierre, and gets side control. Story tries to ensnare St. Pierre in an armbar. St. Pierre stops Story from applying it. St. Pierre tries to grab an arm-in guillotine. St. Pierre cannot get it applied. Georges St-Pierre looks very tired out there. St. Pierre looks like he is thinking about an arm-in guillotine attempt. St. Pierre cannot get it applied. Story attempts to roll St. Pierre slightly and take his back. Story takes the back, St. Pierre couldn't stop it. Story attempts an armbar. Story rolls to try and get the armbar, but St. Pierre pulls free and easily secures side control. The time runs out on round three. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Story.

Round 4

We are back underway! Between rounds, his corner told Story to watch for strikes but to be aware of takedown opportunities. Out of nowhere, Story dives at St. Pierre, trying to grab one of his legs! The attempt doesn't work, St. Pierre got out of range too quickly. Story looks like he might be trying to get in close and wrestle with St. Pierre. St. Pierre finds himself pulled into a grappling contest. Story throws a few close-range strikes, but St. Pierre smothers the shots and takes control of the grappling. Story comes in closer, looking to wrestle with St. Pierre. St. Pierre ends up grappling for supremacy with Story. Rick Story is breathing very hard. Story looks to scoop his opponent up for a slam. He can't get it though, St. Pierre defends it and pulls away from the grapple entirely. Georges St-Pierre seems to be fighting against exhaustion. Slowed down by physical tiredness, St. Pierre still looks to get in close and strike from the pocket. Story tries to counter with a takedown, but St. Pierre defended it well. Story, who looks drained, comes forward looking for a takedown. Story goes under an attempted counter right hand. The takedown is successful, it's a single leg that leaves St. Pierre pulling guard. The time is up, and that's the end of round four. I have to give that round to Story, but only a 10-9.

Round 5

There's the bell and round number five begins! There's a ragged-looking takedown attempt from a visibly tired St. Pierre. Story sees the takedown coming and tries to move. St. Pierre can't get the takedown, Story was too quick to back away. Despite being tired, Story looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with St. Pierre. A left cross misses, giving St. Pierre the perfect angle to counter-strike with a massive uppercut, knocking Story down to the ground...he is out cold!

By Knock Out, the winner is Georges St-Pierre!

Lightweight Bout: Mac Danzig vs. Jamie Varner

Round 1

And here we go! Danzig avoids a series of wayward big punches and counters with a hard leg kick. Danzig slips out of the way of a jab. Danzig counters a left jab with a crisp left hand punch. A left jab misses the mark and allows Varner to counter with a left jab to the cheek. Varner uses head movement to dodge a jab, and counters with a left jab to the cheek. A nice one-two combination doesn't trouble Danzig, who covered up well. Seeing a low kick coming, Varner strikes first with a series of big right hands, putting Danzig down on the ground! Varner doesn't have time to capitalise though, as Danzig recovers his wits quickly. Danzig takes a right hand, but it didn't connect well and he uses that moment to stand back up. Varner throws a barrage of big rights but Danzig is quick to move out of range. Varner looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Danzig. Slipping past a left jab, Danzig hits a solid left jab. The time is up, and that's the end of round one. That was a fun round to watch. That has to go down as a 10-9 round to Varner.

Round 2

There's the bell for the start of the round! Varner sees a right body kick coming, grabs it, shoots in for a takedown, and gets it! Danzig pulls guard. Danzig pulls Varner down into half guard after he threw a wild bomb that didn't connect. Varner looks to get past the half guard. Danzig attempts to secure an arm. A kimura is fully applied, Varner is in huge trouble! Danzig loses the hold! Somehow Varner got his arm free. That was incredibly close to a finish though. Danzig uses a nice combination as a set up, then shoots in for a takedown. Varner sees the takedown coming and tries to move. Danzig can't get the takedown, Varner was too quick to back away. Not letting up, Varner steps in closer to pressure Danzig into action. Danzig tries to counter with a takedown, but Varner defended it well. Danzig uses a smart combination to get Varner to cover up, then shoots in looking for a takedown. Varner won't go down from the takedown attempt, but can't do anything about being pushed up against the cage. Danzig attempts to wrestle Varner to the ground. Varner doesn't fight the takedown, he seems content to pull guard. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. Incredibly close round, but Danzig came out just ahead on my score card.

Round 3

Round three begins! Varner counters a right kick to the body by hitting a nice left hand. There's a takedown attempt from Danzig. Danzig doesn't get the takedown, Varner saw it coming and was equal to it. Varner looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Danzig. Varner is in the pocket, ready to attack Danzig. Covering up, Danzig absorbs a combination of rights and lefts. Checking a leg kick, Varner counters back immediately with a crisp left hook to the body. Danzig uses head movement to avoid a left jab. There's a double leg attempt from Danzig, from the pocket. Varner tries to counter with a right hand, but is too slow. The takedown is completed, Danzig came in hard and fast and was too much for Varner. Danzig ends up holding a seated Varner around the waist, pressing him up against the cage. Danzig attempts to guillotine Varner, who is stuck against the cage. The guillotine is fully applied, Varner has no option but to tap out!

Mac Danzig takes the win by submission!

A left hand misses, allowing Jabouin to counter with a kick to the outside of the left leg. Diego Nunes won't want to take too many unchecked strikes to the legs like that. Nunes avoids a leg kick and scores with a crisp left hand punch. The time runs out on round one. Incredibly close round, but Nunes came out just ahead on my score card.

Round 2

Not comfortable in the pocket, Jury steps back and creates some space. An exchange of strikes goes nowhere. Jury slips out of the way of a jab. Jury is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Pearson. Pearson slips past a left jab and counters with a body kick. Moving forward, Jury counters a left jab with a clean jab. A left jab misses and Pearson strikes back with a stinging left jab. Pearson suddenly fakes dropping down for a double leg to try and get Jury to commit to a sprawl, but gets no joy. Jury slips out of the way of a combination of short sharp punches. Round one ends as time expires. That round goes to Pearson, 10-9 on my card.

Round 2

Round two begins! From what we could hear of his corner, it sounds like Pearson has been instructed to vary his angles of approach a bit more. An attempted inside leg kick misses, giving Jury the opportunity to counter with a snap right jab, landing on the button and knocking Pearson down! Jury knows that this is a golden opportunity, and quickly pounces on Pearson, looking to finish him off by raining down punches! Jury pounds away on Pearson, landing several great shots that threaten to knock him out! The referee pulls Jury away, stopping the match!

UFC on FOX: Diaz vs. Koscheck - Play by Play

Middleweight Bout: Michael Bisping vs. Jake Shields

Round 1

Round one begins! Shields avoids a jab. After a flurry of punches miss, Bisping is able to strike back with a solid left. Bisping is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. A left jab misses, giving Bisping the chance to hit back with a hard right kick across the side. Shields slips out of the way of a right body kick, showing good footwork at such close range. Shields sees a right kick coming and so moves forward to strike with a stinging jab. Bisping shows good head movement to avoid getting caught with a jab. From the pocket, Shields shoots in for a double leg. Bisping sprawls, stopping the takedown and forcing Shields down to the ground into a type of turtle position. Shields doesn't let Bisping roll him onto his back. Taking advantage of a pause, Shields stands up. Bisping looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and strike with Shields. Shields tries to counter by dropping down and going for a single leg, but Bisping defended it well. Moving in closer, Bisping looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. He gets into range. Shields uses head movement to cause a left jab to sail harmlessly by. Bisping is looking to get in close and strike from the pocket. Shields tries to counter with a takedown, but Bisping defended it well. The time runs out on round one. I'd say that was definitely 10-9 in favour of Bisping.

Round 2

There's the bell and round number two begins! Bisping throws a barrage of big right hands but Shields moves out of range. Shields chooses to shoot in on Bisping. Bisping tries to avoid Shields. The takedown doesn't work, Bisping saw it coming and got out of range. Moving in closer, Bisping looks like he wants to strike from the pocket. Shields lets Bisping get closer. Showing good footwork and reactions, Shields avoids a body kick. Dodging to one side, Bisping counters an attempted knock out punch with a barrage of big rights, knocking Shields down! Bisping senses victory and starts to unload with punches! Shields shows great instincts, pulling half guard to put a halt to the shower of punches. In half guard, Bisping throws a couple of punches designed to keep Shields guessing. Bisping blocks Shields as he tries a sweep from half guard. Shields keeps Bisping, who looked to be trying to stand up, in half guard. Shields bursts into life and tries to scramble into a better position. As the scramble begins, Shields sees that Bisping has left a leg in, and quickly tries to seize it. Shields misses the chance to secure the leg and ends up on the bottom with Bisping in side control. Bisping throws a few strikes, but they are without venom. Bisping relinquishes side control, stands and backs off, wanting the fight to continue standing. Bisping comes in closer, looking to attack from the pocket. Shields now has Bisping standing in the pocket. Round two is brought to an end as time runs out. That round goes to Bisping, 10-9 on my card. His corner are pumping him up with encouragement, and Shields looks ready to come out and go for broke.

Round 3

There's the bell for the start of the round! Shields counters a wayward low right kick with a left. A left hand misses, allowing Shields to counter with a flurry of quick punches to sting Bisping. There's a takedown attempt from Shields. Bisping attempts to avoid Shields as he shoots in. Shields can't get the takedown, Bisping was too quick to back away. Shields steps in but an exchange of strikes goes nowhere. Time slips away as Bisping doesn't press Shields, allowing him to circle. Shields is looking to turn this into a wrestling match, and is getting in closer to Bisping. Bisping keeps himself moving out of range, not wanting to grapple. A couple of quick punches are used to set up a takedown attempt from Shields. The takedown is successful, it's a single leg that leaves Bisping pulling guard. Michael Bisping doesn't look like he has much left in the tank. Shields looks to pass guard and get side control. Shields passes to side control with ease. Shields starts trying to work to use side control as a way to get behind Bisping. He takes the back! Shields tries to get Bisping locked in a rear naked choke. The rear naked choke is fully applied, but Shields can't claim the submission because the round ends right then! Time runs out and that's the end of the fight. I have to give that round to Shields, but only a 10-9.

The judges' scores are now being announced. All three judges give 29-28.

Making Michael 'The Count' Bisping the winner by unanimous decision!

I think Evans took that round, 10-9 on my score card.

An armbar is applied, and as soon as the arm is pulled straight Evans has to tap out!

The winner, by submission, is Renato 'Babalu' Sobral!

Diaz tries to step away from the takedown. Diaz avoids the takedown attempt. Diaz goes to the body and then to the head with a tidy combination to get Koscheck to cover up, then shoots in. Koscheck won't go down from the takedown attempt, but can't do anything about being pushed up against the cage and having Diaz take his back. Grappling from behind, Diaz tries to get up onto the back of Koscheck to apply a choke. Diaz is too high on the choke attempt, and Koscheck flips him over and down to the ground. Diaz wraps Koscheck up in guard after he dived in with an attempted huge punch. Diaz cannot secure the arm. Looking to catch his breath, Koscheck is content to just throw a couple of punches to the body. Time expires and we come to the end of round one. An extremely close round, could have gone either way, but personally I'll give it to Koscheck 10-9.

Diaz is pressed up against the cage and held there, taking the occasional short punch to the ribs and stomach, until the round ends. The time is up, and that's the end of round three.
