January 1997: A year focused on War

Recommended Posts

It's hard NOT to come out victorious with WCW, as WWF's RAW is only an hour long and puts on shows with pretty bad grades... atleast in my game. First RAW had one angle and two matches, and scored a 72 grade. Oh, and their two pre-show matches was awesome, but since they don't count.... :p

Well, this mod is definately realistic. Three weeks in, and as WWF I have lost every tv-rating battle so far <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Agreed. Realistic, but not too harsh that it's not fun to play. I feel like the mod-maker found a great balance between difficulty and playability. Kudos, for that! This is one of the best mods I've played in a long time.

<p>This is probably my favourite RW mod ever. I've always had issues with mods before being too 'realistic' to the point of it being far too difficult to play. This mod, however, I find strikes a really good balance. Put another way, if it was a bad mod I wouldn't have booked and written up five months worth of shows! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Gungner" data-cite="Gungner" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35920" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>It's not the best mod I have played, but somewhat close. Granted, it makes it fun that I have guys I can rely on to give me good matches, and my midcard blows at times, but I've never had it where a match that I predicted to knock it out of the park was a shit-storm.</p>

However, at least in terms of overall show ratings you're not sliding towards cult just because you don't run Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker every week! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

It's good that I can throw HBK, Mankind, Undertaker, Austin, Bret, Pillman, etc out there and get at least pretty good grades. WWF rose pretty fast, which I think was realistic since I was booking like a maniac, but seems to have leveled out at a plateau (at least in the states) for now, which I also think seems about how it should be. Everything in this mod is working fine, at least for me, imho.</p>

<p>I'm playing as WWF, and my match grades can't above 80. (And no, it's not because I book Shawn Michaels vs Aldo Montoya every week) <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Stone Cold vs 'Taker scored a 67, while Michaels vs Mankind scored a 78</p>

What abou road agent notes?</p><p> </p><p> In five months I've had 36 matches rated 80 or above (I am trying to book realistically for the time, so I'm not having too many huge PPV-type matches on RAW). It's going to be difficult to compare, because I managed to get Austin to A across the US, but my match between Taker and Austin got a 93.</p><p> </p><p> To some extent the mod puts you in a window, whereby you can fairly quickly build up a few decent stars (Austin, HHH and Rocky being the obvious trio) with popularity that can then be used to put on better matches. While this applies to most mods, this one offers you a buffer in the sense that you are not failing at the beginning and have to build yourself up to break even - you start of at break even and you build your company towards growth.</p><p> </p><p> My Royal Rumble 1997 graded 81 overall, my last two PPVs were both 91, so you can see a steady progression as the game progresses.</p>

Well, it has been that way in other mods too... Starting off a bit slowly, but then getting better and better grades. And no, no bad chemistry. It could be the "Jim Ross and Vince McMahon clash horribly at the announcers table" note, that did it though.

<p>Well, I removed Vince from his announcing duties immidiately <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Need a new colour commentator though, as Jerry Lawler is not available for Superstars, and not interested in signing a new contract.</p>

  • 2 weeks later...
Haven't played this data much since releasing it but giving it a little go later, some cool stuff coming soon for the mod as RayW plans on releasing several future game saves with an alternate wrestling world, also once I get back on track with other things I was thinking about doing a multiplayer deal like SM82 has going on in the General Discussion section likely just not as many people involved though.

Back into this mod again, playing as WWF. I'm into August 1997 and have grown to international, thus winning the war fairly comfortably at the minute.

My PPV buy rates are on a par with WCW but despite rolling out B+ shows weekly (and the odd A), my TV ratings are around 2.3 while WCW are up at 5.5 with B/B- shows. Is it purely because TNT are bigger than USA Network that this happens? Can TV stations get bigger? I'd like to stay loyal to USA Network but if they don't grow I'm probably going to have to jump to another station (like I just have in Britain/Europe).
