Well to be fair, I usually draft based on need, not on talent alone. A lot of those teams already had good players at the forward positions.

Also, got to have a little bit of realism. You're not going to find all of the top picks end up being good players, so there will always be one or two players that turned out to be good IRL that might not be picked until mid-late 1st round.

Plus, Randolph has a lower initial rating than most of the other 1st rounders, so in reality, that can put off a lot of teams to draft him with a high pick.

Yeah, that totally makes sense. I had somehow put it in my mind that the draft was rigged-- er, I mean random LOL just kidding. Keep up the good work!

For the 4th time in their history, the Indiana Pacers won the 2002 NBA Title by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in 7 games. Terrell Brandon was once again named Finals MVP for the Pacers. I find this kinda odd as Grant Hill was statistically better both in the 1999 Finals win and this season's win and an argument could be made for their 95 win as well. Brandon has won all 3 Finals MVPs during their run.

I feel like the game is skewed towards PGs when it comes to naming Finals MVPs.

Anywho, onto the regular season awards.

NBA MVP: Chris Webber (Hornets)

Defensive Player of the Year: Kevin Garnett (Rockets)

Rookie of the Year: Pau Gasol (Magic)

6th Man of the Year: David Wesley (Wolves)

Most Improved Player: Chauncey Billups (Mavs)

2002 NBA Draft results:

1. Yao Ming (Warriors)

2. Amare Stoudemire (Grizzlies)

3. Manu Ginobili (Hawks)

4. Carlos Boozer (Wizards)

5. Caron Butler (Mavs)

6. Mehmet Okur (Pistons)

7. Drew Gooden (Celtics)

8. Marko Jaric (Knicks)

9. Gordon Giricek (Bulls)

10. Tayshaun Prince (Cavs)

11. Mike Dunleavy (Knicks)

12. John Salmons (Sonics)

13. Ronald Murray (Pistons)

14. Jay Williams (76ers)

15. Roger Mason (Bucks)

16. Kareem Rush (Wolves)

This one of the real interesting drafts as the top few picks could have went in different directions. The Warriors could have logically drafted Ming, Ginobili, or Stoudemire. In the end, Ming was the choice, because if the Warriors suck again next season, I think there are a few guys that would be good that aren't centers. :D

Also, the Mavs and the Knicks traded picks. Richard Jefferson was the Knicks 1st rounder last year and teams were wanting Caron Butler, but the Mavs had the best advantage as they had two picks within a few spots of each other, a few spots below the Knicks pick. So, they swapped the Knicks 1st for both of the Mavs 1st rounders.

While the Mavs still have Glenn Robinson at SF, he has 1 year left on his contract. The idea, Butler is the 6th man for the first season, then moves into the starting lineup in his second season.

Top 10 Free Agents: (previous team)

1. Paul Pierce (Bucks)

2. Vince Carter (Celtics)

3. Dirk Nowitzki (76ers)

4. Mike Bibby (Lakers)

5. Cuttino Mobley (Kings)

6. Brad Miller (Pacers)

7. J.R. Rider (Suns)

8. Jamal Mashburn (Spurs)

9. Raef Lafrentz (Heat)

10. Michael Olowokandi (Magic)

Paul Pierce won't re-sign with the Bucks as the Bucks had their budget slashed and Pierce is looking for max money. He's got 11 contract offers on the table, once he signs, the losers will no doubt turn to Vinsanity, so in reality there would be 2 winners.

Here's where the top 10 free agents went.

1. Paul Pierce (Sonics)

2. Vince Carter (Jazz)

3. Dirk Nowitzki (Raptors)

4. Mike Bibby (Lakers)

5. Cuttino Mobley (76ers)

6. Brad Miller (Pacers)

7. J.R. Rider (Wolves)

8. Jamal Mashburn (Nuggets)

9. Raef Lafrentz (Heat)

10. Michael Olowokandi (Magic)

While it sucked for the Sixers to lose Dirk, picking up Cuttino was a consolation prize. For Celtics and Bucks fans, this was their reaction...

The Heat made a few trades to clear some salary cap space.

The Heat traded Stephon Marbury to the Wizards for Steve Francis.

In a three team trade, the Heat traded Nick Anderson to the Knicks and Zan Tabak and Joe Smith to the Warriors, the Knicks traded Kwame Brown and PJ Brown to the Heat, and the Warriors traded Chris Mihm to the Knicks.

We're at the 2002-2003 NBA All Star break.

The Houston Rockets are taking their name literally as they have a rocket strapped to their backs this season as they have amassed a 45-3 record at the break.

The Celtics are on their way to winning LeTank for LeBron as they have a pitiful 4-44 record at the break.

It's a tale of two teams at the break.

Wow. Talk about a way to end the 2002-2003 NBA Season.

The Finals came down to the two best teams, the Rockets vs. Raptors. Kevin Garnett was injured in game 2 and was ruled out for the rest of the season. That swung the momentum to the Raptors as they pushed the Rockets to 7 games.

In game 7, the game was close all the way through. Rockets were up by 1 late in the 4th and Kobe Bryant fouled out. The Raptors had 3 chances to take the lead due to missed shots and getting offensive rebounds, but could not capitalize.

The Rockets had a chance to put a dagger in, but Tyrone Nesby missed a shot from the free throw line. Dirk Nowitzki got the rebound and immediately called a timeout with 1 second remaining.

With 1 second remaining, Kevin Johnson inbounded the ball to Hedo Turkoglu, who shot the ball and miss. HOLD THE PHONE! The ref called a shooting foul on Scott Burrell which allowed Turkoglu to shoot two free throws to tie or win the game as there was no time left on the clock.

Turkoglu made the first bucket.

The second free throw was....GOOD!

And because of that, the Toronto Raptors won their first ever NBA Championship, spoiling the Houston Rockets historic season.

Scott Burrell was the goat of the game with that boneheaded foul as time expired.

Dirk Nowitzki won the Finals MVP in his first season with the Raptors. Guess his decision to sign with Toronto was pretty damn smart.

Top 10 2003 Free Agents: (Previous Team)

The Hornets will not be re-signing 2 time MVP Chris Webber citing the salary cap + Webber's age + Webber's contract demands as he is looking for an NBA record of just over 106 million for 6 years. The Hornets plan to let Webber walk and look to sign a younger forward like Elton Brand or Lamar Odom to take his place in the lineup while signing a starting caliber PG like Jason Kidd or Andre Miller. The Pistons, Hawks, and Bucks appear to be the top teams interested in Webber that have the cap space to afford him.

 • 5 weeks later...

Former 2 time MVP, Chris Webber, is returning to the state in which he played college basketball as he signed a 6 year deal with the Pistons. He was hopeful to play with Jason Kidd, however, Kidd decided to take his talents to South Beach as he signed to play alongside Tim Duncan in Miami.

1. Chris Webber (Hornets) -----> Pistons

3. Ron Artest (Heat) ------> Suns

4. Elton Brand (Suns) -----> Hornets
