Hello, everyone, and welcome to a special edition of Beyond Ringside. We're through six weeks of the season, with eleven more yet to go down, and it's been an entertaining season so far. In the next few minutes, I'll be giving out my first trimester awards, doing some analysis, and taking a look ahead into the next six weeks to see what they will bring.

Let's not waste any more time, shall we?

THE FIRST TRIMESTER AWARDS

Rookie of the Season-to-Date: There's a number of people that would fit this. Heck, three of the four divisions are being led by League rookies at this point. However, there's only one person who is undefeated as of this moment, and so my nod goes to Celeste Skye.

Veteran of the Season-to-Date: As of right now, only one vet has a winning record, with another at an even record. This isn't really close. Sean Lyaskaris, on his return from Japan, has racked up a fairly impressive 4-2 record so far and may yet be the first-ever two-time League Champion.

Rookie Disappointment: Many expect me to say Eidenhoek here, but let's be honest. If he gets a single win, that'll be my surprise of the season. So I'm going with a different tack, and singling out William King. Here's a guy who was touted as a man to watch, but so far all I've seen are words and very little action to back them up. While his lone win did indeed come in a Last Man Standing match against Nuclear Templeton, he has done little else to live up to the hype surrounding him.

Veteran Disappointment This one goes to Diamond. After finishing second after Season Six, many (including myself) expected Diamond to go on a tear and challenge for the Season Seven title. Barring a miracle turnaround, that is not likely going to happen this season.

Match of the Season-to-Date: Thor def. Nuclear, Cage Match, week 4. I think it's going to be hard to topple that match from its perch.

IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY

Which it won't because we have uneven numbers of matches, but if it did, here is how the playoffs would look:

DIVISION LEADERS

#1: Celeste Skye (5-0, Alpha Division Leader)

#2: Wallbanger Jones (5-1, Beta Division Leader)

#3: El Super Mantis (4-2, Gamma Division Leader) *

#4: Sean Lyaskaris (4-2, Delta Division Leader) *

* Note that Mantis holds the head-to-head tie-breaker due to his week 2 victory over Sean)

WILD CARDS

#5: Amelia Midnight (4-2) *1

#6: Alex Kapranos (4-2) *1

#7: The Nebraskan Beast (4-2) *1

#8: Scott Stevens (3-3) *2

OUTSIDE LOOKING IN

#9: El Demonio de Sangre (3-3) *2

#10: Deathseed5 (3-3) *2

#11: Connor Blackstone (3-3) *2

*1: Since these three have not wrestled each of the others, the first tie-breaker is Average Time of Victory, which Midnight wins (11:59 vs. 12:15 for beast vs. 12:42 for Kapranos). The #6 spot can be determined with head-to-head, which Kapranos has following his week 2 win over Beast.

*2: Stevens, DS5, Demonio, and Blackstone are all tied at 3-3. Since these four have not wrestled each of the other three, we go to Average Time of Victory to determine the winner, which is Scott Stevens (at 11:47). The same procedure is used to determine the #9 spot (Demonio, at 13:01), #10 (DS5, 13:49) and #11 (Blackstone, 16:55).

SUMMING IT UP IN TEN WORDS OR LESS.

In this section, I'll try to summarize each of the wrestlers' seasons to date and/or future prospects in ten words or less. Otherwise, this might go to a five-page document and my editor will be after my hide. This will go in alphabetical order.

Alex Kapranos: Could be more than a One Hit Wonder this season.

Amelia Midnight: Future is shining bright here in The League.

Celeste Skye: Early pick to walk away as Champion.

Connor Blackstone: "All Business" or "simply average?" Time will tell.

Deathseed5: Will be on outside looking in at season's end.

Diamond: Needs more polishing; a season to forget.

Eidenhoek: No win season? Pretty likely. Ouch.

El Demonio de Sangre: Dark horse to make playoffs, has work to do.

El Super Mantis: Brits apparently make good Luchadors. Who knew?

Judah Snow: The Bastard rises, but not nearly high enough.

Nuclear Templeton: Rough start, tide should turn soon.

Razor Sharp: Record says he's anything but.

Sakura Toyota: Experience appears to beat youth this season.

Scott Stevens: I think a Wild Card is in his future.

Sean Lyaskaris: Two-time League Champ? I wouldn't bet against it.

The Nebraskan Beast: Has a shot at winning his division.

The Phoenix: Has done better. Needs to turn it around.

Thor Hammerskald: Current champ struggling, could easily miss playoffs.

Wallbanger Jones: Second-favorite to win Championship. League, watch out.

William King: Less talk, more action, please.

With that, I will see you back here for the second trimester report after week 12. Until then, this is Tori Montgomery...so long from ringside!

@BangerSmashesYou I ain't much for hype. The League's doing a fine enough job of it ahead of next week's show and the "top two" clash.

@BangerSmashesYou There are, however, a few things I think need saying. #TwitterRantOn

@BangerSmashesYou Now I realize the BCS is dead and gone, but I do think strength of schedule still has some value.

@BangerSmashesYou With that in mind, let us consider Ms. Skye's opponnets in this 5-0 run.

@BangerSmashesYou She beat the roided-up midget! Whoo! #0-5

@BangerSmashesYou She beat the straightedge mediocrity @BITWDS5. #3-3

@BangerSmashesYou She beat the has-been Viking who won't even get the chance to defend the belt. #2-3

@BangerSmashesYou She beat the halfway-decent but struggling @GloriousRequiem. #2-3

@BangerSmashesYou And she beat the ever whining @CallOfKing, who can't even credibly threaten an announcer. #1-4

@BangerSmashesYou That's a total record of 8-18.

@BangerSmashesYou The combined record of my opponents? 13-15.

@BangerSmashesYou Let me spell it out for the slow among you. She. Hasn't. Been. Tested.

@BangerSmashesYou Ms. Skye has gotten by on weak opposition who habitually underestimated her. She's the Wichita State of The League.

@BangerSmashesYou I'm a professional, Ms. Skye. I hurt people and break things for a living. I take pride in my work. I take NO ONE lightly.

@BangerSmashesYou You see The League as a stepping stone to your acting career. That offends me. If you want to act, join a damn community theatre.

@BangerSmashesYou I came here to fight. I see you as a stepping stone to the title. And you ARE going to be stepped on.

@BangerSmashesYou Pretty hard to deliver your lines with a boot crushing your neck.

@BangerSmashesYou Toodles, Ms. Skye. Enjoy the streak while you have it, 'cause it ends in Cancun.

@BangerSmashesYou #AndTheWallsCameTumblingDownHallelujah #TwitterRantOff

<p>@CallOfKing @BangerSmashesYou I don't whine, dude. I just state facts.</p><p> </p><p>

@CallOfKing @BangerSmashesYou Hell, to be honest, I wouldn't even bother if not for my layovers and taxi rides leaving me bored.</p><p> </p><p>

@CallOfKing @BangerSmashesYou So I tweet. And text my girlfriend when she's not in class. And listen to my thrash mix.</p><p> </p><p>

@CallOfKing @BangerSmashesYou What else am I going to do? Play Flappy Birds?</p><p> </p><p>

@CallOfKing @BangerSmashesYou Anyway, I'm at my hotel now, finally. Burpees and bed time. Kick ass next week dude.</p>

<p>Week 6 Post-Match Interview</p><p> </p><p>

February 22, 2014</p><p> </p><p>

Cancun, Mexico - Celeste Skye and her uncle, Daichi Tsukuda, arrived at Cancun International Airport earlier today from their flight from Los Angeles. Waiting for them outside of baggage claim is League Reporter Sophia Russell.</p><p> </p><p>

SR: Congrats on this week's win over William King. What did you think about your match against him as well as the comment that he had posted on his twitter account after the match about your shoes? </p><p> </p><p>

CS: First off, I thought that I came off a little slow out of the gate as he took advantage early. After I regained control, I just let the match come to me and found the perfect chance to end the match.</p><p> </p><p>

As for King's tweet, I'm not going to dignify him with a response. He needs to focus more on his game rather than on his opponent's footwear.</p><p> </p><p>

SR: Moving on to next week's match with Beta division leader Wallbanger Jones, who comes into the matchup with a 5-1 record and a 5 match winning streak. How will you approach the matchup between division leaders as well as the one person who has a good chance to stop your streak?</p><p> </p><p>

CS: As you know, he is one of the best wrestlers in The Leauge, and in my opinion, the best this season. He has tremendous power and strength, as well as an dangerous brawler who has put many opponents down. What he lacks in technical skills, he makes up for it with his impressive array of brawling and power skills. We will look at every bit of film from his matches and hopefully we can come up with a strategy that will lead to victory.</p><p> </p><p>

SR: Before we move onto my final question, I want to ask you if you saw the tweets coming from Wallbanger yesterday about you and your record. </p><p> </p><p>

CS: I haven't seen them, but when I do, I'll let you know.</p><p> </p><p>

SR: One final question. With the annual Tag Team Turmoil coming up in three weeks, I've noticed that you have not selected a partner. Have you found one yet and if not, who do you think would make a good partner?</p><p> </p><p>

CS: I have not found a partner yet. If I could choose, I think that someone like Wallbanger, Sakura, or any other rookie would make good partners. Well except King.</p><p> </p><p>

SR: Thank again Celeste for meeting me for this interview and good luck next week here in Cancun.</p><p> </p><p>

CS: Thanks.</p><p>

<p>@BangerSmashesYou Interesting that Ms. Skye would float my name as a Tag Team Turmoil partner. Good to know she recognizes/respects winners.</p><p>

@BangerSmashesYou Though once she gets on Twitter and reads my rant on her she may change her mind, and I'd understand that. </p><p>

@BangerSmashesYou I stand by my comments. The League is a destination, not a vehicle.</p><p>

@BangerSmashesYou But respect begets respect, and Ms. Skye gave respect. </p><p>

@BangerSmashesYou Bring your best to the ring, Ms. Skye, and be tested. Perhaps a Tag Team Turmoil partnership isn't as implausible as it might seem at first glance.</p><p> </p><p>

William King (1-4, OVR 303) vs. <strong>Sean Lyaskaris (4-2, OVR 317)</strong></p><p>

Week 7 Pre-Match Video

February 23, 2014

Celeste Skye looks out at the Caribbean Sea from her hotel room. As the sun rises over the Caribbean, she turns to her uncle who is holding a digital camera. She positions herself in front of the window as the camera begins to record.

"Wallbanger Jones, I've read your tweets/rants after I got to my hotel room and after some thought, I've decided to respond. Now before I get started, let's get one thing straight. Like I said in yesterday's interview, I believe that you are the best wrestler this season and I will look forward to our coming match. You will be no doubt the toughest match that I have had to date. I promise you that I will give this match everything I got to ensure that this match lives up to the hype that it will become. With that being said, let's get down to business."

Skye grabs her tablet off the table and pulls up the tweets that Wallbanger tweeted Friday and begins reading through them. After looking at them closely, she puts down the tablet and begins her video.

"First off, I'm not going to lie to you about my record. I agree that the record looks weak, but let's get this straight. I did not pick this schedule nor did I put myself in a division with the worst wrestler in The League. I see that you have mentioned my record in the same category as Wichita State or if we were to bring up the BCS, a Hawaii or UConn. But I see it otherwise. You see, I look at myself like the Boise State team that beat Oklahoma back in the Fiesta Bowl back in the 2006-2007 season. Not many people believed that they deserved a seat at the big table, but in the end, they proved that they were deserving of that seat. Like them, I may only have one or two decent wins, but I will prove to you and the world, just like they proved to the world after their win, that I am not a Cinderella."

"Secondly, I see that you are offended by my reasons for participating in The League. I get it. I'll admit that someone like me would be the last person that you would like to face, as well as the last undefeated wrestler remaining. However, I feel that the skills that I've learned from years of martial arts training as well as years of studying to be an actress has helped me to become a better wrestler."

"I get the point that you are a wrecking ball of destruction, hell-bent of taking out anyone or anything that stands in your way of the League Championship. I also get that you believe that I am but a stepping stone to you in your quest for the title. Well, let's get one thing straight. I may not be as strong or physical as you, but I promise you that I will not back down from this challenge, nor will I allow you to write me off as 'a stepping stone.' I have worked too hard and have taken my fair share of punishment these last few weeks for someone else to come in and ruin all the work that I have put into this season."

She glances at her tablet to see if she left anything out. After seeing the last of Wallbanger's tweets, she places the tablet down and looks back at the camera.

"Before I end this video, I would like to say that I'm glad that you saw the interview. Like I stated earlier, I respect you as a wrestler and a brawler. I also understand your reservations about my reasons for joining the League. I will bring my A game for our match as I know that you will bring yours as well. May the best person win and hopefully our match will leave no doubt as to who is the best in the League."

"And that's a wrap!" Daichi said after he had stopped filming. "Now let's resume training."

"Ok," Celeste said as she posted the finished video to her website, as well as sent a copy to League reporter Sophia Russell and a link to the video to Wallbanger's Twitter account.

<p>*Sigh* Technology, ladies and gents, can be a right pain.</p><p> </p><p>

The culprit this time is my netbook charging cable. My boss (an electrician) repaired it a few months ago due to wires not connecting properly. Today, the head of the charger must have had something short in it because it will no longer charge my netbook. I didn't realize it had stopped working until I was making database edits to run matches tonight, and I got a low battery warning.</p><p> </p><p>

I have a replacement on order which should arrive this weekend. Not much I can do with The League until the replacement arrives.</p><p> </p><p>

So as of right now, the next show will go up next week instead of tomorrow. All deadlines are being pushed back a week as well. If something changes, I'll leave word.</p><p> </p><p>

I apologize for the inconvenience.</p>
