I'm glad this thread got bumped! That was a fun read! Here's my current list...

GAMMA, October 2005

All title fights consist of twelve (yes, 12!) five minute rounds.

Stoppage victories listed in parentheses after W-L record.

Super Heavyweight:

"King Kong" Khang, 29-1 (27), 2-time champ with 11 defenses in first reign.

This Muay Thai phenom from Bangkok grabbed the Super Heavyweight title in crushing fashion in July of 2002 with a 27-second head kick knockout over George Pickering, who had defended the title 4 times after taking it from Davey Rushton in February of 2001. After making a record-setting 11 defenses and stopping all but two of his foes in the process, Khang finally slipped up and lost a slim but unanimous decision (115-113) to newcomer Harvey Pawlak at GAMMA 119 in March of 2005. Despite winning, Pawlak needed far longer to recover than Khang, so Khang scored a quick victory over Matas Fialkowska in June to secure a rematch with Pawlak in September. In a back and forth brawl for the ages, Khang scored an epic, come from behind knockout in the 11th round to regain the title. Assuming Pawlak wins another fight or two in the interim, their rubber match is one of the most anticipated fights on deck for late 2006.

Heavyweight:

"Grande Urso" Murillo Satinho, 28-0 (22), 10 defenses.

The Great Bear has been on quite the run since debuting in GAMMA in October of 2001. After winning 5 fights against mid-level opposition, Satinho was granted a title shot against Hassan Fezzik, who had defended the title 7 times since taking it from James Foster in May of 2001. Satinho absolutely dominated Fezzik en route to a 5th round TKO victory due to strikes. Satinho has since proceeded to rattle off victories over every available top contender, sometimes in dominant fashion, sometimes escaping by the skin of his teeth with split or majority decisions. There are several young monsters on the rise in the GAMMA Heavyweight division, and rumors persist that the legendary Maximus Mack may be considering a jump to Heavyweight, so the next year should provide many significant new challenges for the champ.

Light Heavyweight:

Rafael van der Moot, 24-2, 0 defenses.

Having just taken the title from Toby Sorkin via 2nd round KO less than a month ago, van der Moot's ceiling is a bit of an unknown. He looked like a world beater in ALPHA-1 before losing via 7th round KO to Zvonimir Asanovic. He began to rebuild in GAMMA the next year, but then suffered a surprising 2nd round TKO loss to Marlon John. After stringing together 6 victories over an escalating level of competition, he was granted a title shot against the long-reigning and undefeated "Judoka Who'll Choke Ya".

Most fans and media members expected Sorkin to grind out a decision victory or submit van der Moot with his masterful ground game, but van der Moot was having none of that. He quickly rushed Sorkin in the first round and began to hammer him from pillar to post (or corner to cage) until Sorkin could take no more, finally succumbing to a wicked right hand in round 2. As Sorkin looks to rebuild and work his way into a rematch, van der Moot may tangle with William Harrison or the undefeated Toby Dingleberry in his first title defense.

Middleweight, Welterweight, AND Lightweight

"The Monster" Maximus Mack, 30-0 (30), 11, 14, and 16 defenses, respectively.

What can one say about Maximus Mack? Words fall far short of articulating the majesty and frightening prowess of this young, weight-class-jumping legend-in-the-making. After taking the Lightweight title IN HIS DEBUT from Brandon Sugar via 21-second KO, Mack has proceeded to absolutely obliterate every challenge thrown his way. A phenom in every single aspect of MMA, he rarely loses a round, let alone a fight.

After making 6 defenses of the Lightweight title, Mack jumped all the way to Middleweight to challenge long-reigning champ Matthew Dean. When asked why he didn't make a stop at Welterweight on the way up to challenge then-champ Nathan Chambers, Mack simply replied "I wanted a greater challenge". Though Mack dominated every single aspect of the fight, it appeared as if Dean would become the first person to take him the distance... but Mack cranked up the intensity in the twelfth and final round to score a brutal knockout via punches with less than 50 seconds to go.

Since then, only one person has managed to take Mack past the 10th round, and every single challenger has fallen via KO, TKO, or submission. He quickly added the Welterweight title to his collection with a brutal Muay Thai elbow KO over Chambers, and, often defending two titles at once, has gone on to defend all three titles an unbelievable number of times. With his fight cards having grossed over 1.5 billion dollars for GAMMA, Mack is without doubt the face of the promotion... and all of MMA.

Rumor has it that Mack intends to make yet another weight-class jump next year... this time all the way to Heavyweight. Will The Great Bear be too much for this "Monster"? Or will Mack cement his place as the GOAT before the age of 25? Only time will tell!

Featherweight (Women's)

"Legendary" Lilly Lexington, 17-0 (17), 0 defenses.

The sky is the limit for Lexington, fresh off a dominating performance over long-reigning champ "Bad Apple" Alexandra Appleton. Appleton's undefeated ledger and record-setting streak of 11 consecutive title defenses came crashing down by way of punches in a devastating 4th round KO loss. Though quite young and comparatively inexperienced, many expected Lexington to provide a stiff challenge for Appleton, as she is the apparent leader of a pack of hungry young wolves who debuted in GAMMA in 2004. Many challenges lie ahead for the one they call "Legendary". Appleton is eager to rebuild herself and earn a rematch. Joan "The Animal" Jackson - the only GAMMA Featherweight champ prior to Appleton - is on a dominant, 5-fight winning streak since her rematch loss to Appleton and may be in line for Lexington's first title defense. And then there's that pack of hungry young wolves...

Will Lexington live up to the hype and eclipse the reign of the woman from whom she took the title, or will she fall somewhere along the way? MMA fans around the world can't wait to find out!

Aleksander Ivanov (14-1) got the title via unanimous decision after uneventful 5 rounds against the 38-year old Grzegorz Boniek (40-6).

The title defense against another Russian - the 31-year old "Siberian Strangler" Vladislav Vasiliev (17-4), coming at the end of the month promises to be more exciting.

Light Heavyweight:

Brazilian prodigy Roger Gracie (6-0) has won the title by submitting the Finnish powerhouse Matti Kurri (13-2-1) via a Kimura hold at the end of just first round. His first title defence is against a Dutch veteran Faas Smit (41-18) is coming in the second week of November. Faas has already lost once to Gracie before after only 3 minutes of the fight. Let's hope he will prepare better for the title shot.

Middleweight:

The English "Gentleman Jim" James Spencer (6-0) has put up an absolutely fantastic performance, flooring the previously undefeated Russian superstar Fjodor Kanchelskis (18-1). Spencer has started very aggressively, being dominant the whole fight and knocking Kanchelskis down already in the first round. After a couple of knockdowns and a successful takedown in the second round, Spencer knocked Kanchelskis out cold by a well-placed sequence of punches to the head at 3:46 of round 3, winning the Middleweight title.

Welterweight:

The brutal Norwegian Jens Halle (21-3) holds the title here, having defeated Martin Cupples (16-1) in a gruesome 5-round battle. Always the underdog, Halle somehow managed to come on top despite all odds.

Lightweight:

In his title fight, the tank run-over survivor Lubos Plasil (12-1) was a clear favorite. Over the course of his career in the Fight Club he has shown to be near impenetrable. What nobody expected was that his opponent, the Portuguese grappler Agostinho Rodelo (9-2) would give him a tough fight with a lot of pressure throughout all 5 rounds. Plasil has narrowly escaped with a unanimous decision win. And a champion's belt, of course.

Featherweight:

Beating the great Snorri Gunnarsson (28-5-1NC) is not an easy task, but the "Celtic Warrior" Colm Dee (19-6) came prepared. To the surprise of the many, he was clearly the aggressor and dominated Snorri throughout the 5 rounds, getting a unanimous decision win.

Bantamweight:

Brad Pickett (6-0) is a pretty dominant bantamweight, winning the title in the fight with Otis Nouri (10-1) via a RNC and then successfully defending it against Egyptian Mustafa Nejem (8-2-1), mounting him and punching his face till a TKO in round 2.

The next contender to face Pickett is a 26-year old Turkish fighter Aydon Akhter (4-0), who has already amassed wins against Lino Basora and Demos Laskaratos. The fight will take place in the end of November 2003.

Women's Bantamweight:

In the women's division the champion is a young Scottish fighter Shannon Leon (6-0). A very well-rounded fighter, she has won the title in a fight with Kimberley Greene (5-2) and defended it against a Lithuanian Annika Malyszko (6-1). None of her 6 wins went to decision, and only one fight lasted past the second round.

Upcoming title bouts:

For the Heavyweight title: Aleksander Ivanov (14-1) vs Vladislav Vasiliev (17-4) - 4th week of October 2003

For the Light Heavyweight title: Roger Gracie (6-0) vs Faas Smit (41-18) - 2nd week of November 2003

For the Bantamweight title: Brad Pickett (6-0) vs Aydon Akhter (4-0) - 4th week of November 2003

an update:

Aleksander Ivanov (15-1) has successfully defended his Heavyweight title against Vladislav Vasiliev (17-5). Vasiliev managed to suplex Ivanov in the first round (and you would expect this from someone who managed to defeat Oktay) but couldn't stand the boxing power of the champion and was knocked out in 4:42 of the first round.

The champions now look as follows:

Heavyweight:

Aleksander Ivanov (15-1), 1 defense made

Light Heavyweight:

Roger Gracie (6-0), yet to defend

Middleweight:

James Spencer (6-0), yet to defend

Welterweight:

Jens Halle (21-3), yet to defend

Lightweight:

Lubos Plasil (12-1), yet to defend

Featherweight:

Colm Dee (19-6), yet to defend

Bantamweight:

Brad Pickett (6-0), 1 defense made

Women's Bantamweight:

Shannon Leon (6-0), 1 defense made

Upcoming title bouts:

For the Light Heavyweight title: Roger Gracie (6-0) vs Faas Smit (41-18) - 2nd week of November 2003

For the Bantamweight title: Brad Pickett (6-0) vs Aydon Akhter (4-0) - 4th week of November 2003

For the Featherweight title: Colm Dee (19-6) squares off with a Russian miracle Aleksei Babiak (4-0). Babiak can be easily called rookie of the year, coming out of nowhere and defeating tough fighters such as Nuno Valentino and Hans Christian Bloch.

For the Women's Bantamweight title: Shannon Leon (6-0) will be facing a fellow Scottish fighter Audriana Powell (4-2), who managed to grind through the ranks to face the champion.
