Mauro explains that Josh Barnett couldn't come along for the rest of the ride due to his UFC contract, so the 'Hardcore Legend' is in to bat.

Captain New Japan defeated Sho Tanaka in 8:21 by submission. (D+)

The Captain was simply too big for young lion Sho Tanaka, he showed some heart and even managed to lock on a Half Crab, but he was bullied for most of the contest. Captain New Japan locked on a Tongan Death Grip, and the youngster tapped out so as to fight another day.

Satoshi Kojima and Time Splitters (KUSHIDA and Alex Shelley) defeated CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Gedo and Jado) in 17:22 by pinfall. (B-)

The second of four matches being shown on this broadcast of World Pro Wrestling and yet this one only happened yesterday. The fans are excited at the prospect of Okada vs. Kojima, but constant tags and interjections stop the two from having it out here. After some back and forth action, Kojima's Cozy Lariat puts Gedo down for the victory. Post-match, Okada and Kojima have a bit of a staredown and some verbals are exchanged, but their tag partners diffuse the situation before it progresses any further.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tetsuya Naito, Katsuyori Shibata and Hirooki Goto defeated Bullet Club (AJ Styles, Bad Luck Fale, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson) in 29:44 by pinfall. (B)

To save time on this broadcast, we get only the highlights of this clash. Even then, it's far from a highlight reel, this match was looooong! Bullet Club stretch the rules and have some fun, but a hot tag to Tanahashi brings them to their knees. Celebrated official Tiger Hattori can only observe as all hell breaks loose. Once the dust from that violence has settled, Doc Gallows is ripe for the picking. Hirooki Goto heaves the big man up and back down again with the Shouten Kai and Tetsuya Naito finishes this contest off with a Stardust Press and picks up the victory for the New Japan Army. Post-match, Tanahashi sticks around to air guitar and promises that after defeat at New Year Dash, he will get some vengeance on A.J. Styles and the rest of the Bullet Club.

CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura and Tomohiro Ishii) defeated Satoshi Kojima, Yuji Nagata and Manabu Nakanishi in 24:38 by pinfall. (B+)

Praiseworthy effort from the veterans, their aging bodies might have said no, but they willed themselves on. A far longer match than one might have expected, viewers will be very happy that this one made tape, it could have headlined a PPV to be honest. Class triumphed over heart though in the end though, Okada's Rainmaker Lariat to Manabu Nakanishi proving to be the nail in the coffin. Post-match, Okada and Nakamura stuck around to celebrate. Mauro Ranallo on commentary translates some of what is being said - generally, they're celebrating their victories and promising they will do the same come The New Beginning next month.

Suzuki-gun (Shelton X Benjamin, Taichi, Davey Boy Smith Jr and Lance Archer) defeated Kazushi Sakuraba, Captain New Japan, BUSHI and Sho Tanaka in 13:18 by pinfall. (C+)

A rather dominant performance from Suzuki-gun, they were never truly in danger here. Killer Elite Squad were at the top of their game tonight, exerting their power advantage on everybody in the ring. Foley remarks that if they're that dominant at The New Beginning, they won't have much trouble with Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez. Most notable though was an inspired display from Benjamin, who pinned Sho Tanaka after a Paydirt.

KUSHIDA defeated Sho Tanaka in 9:53 by submission. ©

A sleek, professional performance from one half of the Time Splitters but he found young lion Sho to be more than a handful. Tanaka locked on his Half Crab before transitioning into a painful-looking STF. He even rocked KUSHIDA's jaw with a lovely dropkick. The youngster is building his arsenal but he was really no match for Kushi. He's been wrestling for nine years, so the 31-year-old is finding his peak right now. He executed a lovely headscissor before floating round the back of little Sho into a kimura lock, a move that Mauro Ranallo calls the Hoverboard Lock. As Tanaka slumped to the canvas, he submitted the match straight away and in doing so, probably saved himself a broken arm.

Bullet Club (Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows and Tama Tonga) defeated Hirooki Goto, Katsuyori Shibata and Tomoaki Honma in 15:22 by pinfall. (B-)

A good night for the Biz Cliz, but they would have wanted a pinfall on the IWGP Tag Team Champions, not Tomoaki Honma. The fan favourite missed a Diving Kokeshi (what's new?) and was promptly put away by Karl Anderson with a Gun Stun. Meiyu Tag were never at full throttle and with the rest of a long tour ahead, who can really blame them?

Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi, Satoshi Kojima and Togi Makabe defeated CHAOS (Shinsuke Nakamura, Tomohiro Ishii, Kazuchika Okada and Toru Yano) in 24:32 by pinfall. (B)

They've turned back the clock again! If CHAOS were doubting their opponents before, they weren't after this match on Wednesday. This match was full of near-falls and tense submissions, back and forth we went. Manabu Nakanishi looked to shock the Aichi Gymnasium when he had Shinsuke Nakamura in the Torture Rack! - but Toru Yano saved the day with a low blow and then schoolboyed the #1 Contender to the NEVER Openweight Championship. Nagata slid in, broke up that count and then spiked Yano on his neck with a Backdrop, holding on for the bridging pinfall and with it, the victory! Post-match, all eight guys sized each other up in the ring with a staredown. Makabe seems to have taken exception to Toru Yano, but YTR simply pointed at him, laughed and then shrugged his shoulders before pulling a silly face. The veterans left the ring, leaving CHAOS to their tomfoolery as Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada closed the show, apologising for defeat, but promising victories at The New Beginning once again.

The New Beginning In Osaka

8th February, 2015

Hiroshi Tanahashi sees 2015 as the year he defines his legacy as the greatest IWGP World Heavyweight Champion of all time, but his reign could be cut short when he defends that title against the leader of the Bullet Club, the 'Phenomenal One' A.J. Styles.

Tetsuya Naito steps into the ring with 'The Underboss', the always dangerous 300+ lbs monster, Bad Luck Fale. This is the man that cost Naito his match with Styles at Wrestle Kingdom 9, but will he even be able to gain a measure of revenge against such a beast?

In Wrestle Kingdom 9 rematches, Guns & Gallows look to regain their IWGP Tag Team Titles from Meiyu Tag, and Ryusuke Taguchi seeks to dethrone 'The Cleaner'.

Join us on Sunday, live from the Osaka Castle Hall on PPV and iPPV!

Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Bad Luck Fale and Kenny Omega in 12:32 by submission. (C+)

Kenny Omega finds out that there's more to Taguchi that meets the eye. 'Funky Weapon' locks on an Ankle Lock and scores a big submission victory. Bad Luck Fale couldn't do much about it, he was kept busy by Tenzan, but this Bullet Club duo definitely showed promise and could be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

KUSHIDA, Tomoaki Honma and Kazushi Sakuraba defeated CHAOS (YOSHI-HASHI, Gedo and Jado) in 11:49 by submission. (B-)

Easy win for these three against the mix-and-match CHAOS unit, who are missing their heavy hitters tonight. YOSHI-HASHI broke out from the pack last year with a NEVER Openweight shot at then-champion Yujiro Takahashi, but he's still no match for the inspirational underdog Tomoaki Honma. Gedo finds himself one-on-one with the 'Time Splitter' and falls pray to KUSHIDA's Hoverboard Lock. Post-match, the 'Gracie Killer' is somewhat impressed.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tetsuya Naito, Hirooki Goto and Katsuyori Shibata defeated Suzuki-gun (Davey Boy Smith Jr., Lance Archer, Shelton X Benjamin and TAKA Michinoku) in 21:44 by pinfall. (B)

This contest all came down to Tanahashi and Naito's counter wrestling, they were always able to keep the numbers advantage at bay when isolated before reinforcements from Meiyu Tag turned the tide. The High Fly Flow came crashing down hard on Shelton X Benjamin and 'The Invader' was pinned. The IWGP Heavyweight Champion air guitared in celebration to sign us off and promised victory over another invader, A.J. Styles, at The New Beginning In Osaka.

Yuji Nagata, Satoshi Kojima, Manabu Nakanishi and Togi Makabe defeated CHAOS (Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii and Toru Yano) in 28:22 by pinfall. (B+)

Just highlights of this long contest to save time, but the battle-hardened veterans win another war. Yuji Nagata folds Yano up with the Backdrop and holds the bridge to pick up the pinfall. The fans were a fifth man on that team, inspiring them to fight on despite the divide in class. Nakamura is angry at ringside as his New Beginning opponent celebrates, it would seem that Nagata is a step ahead heading into Nagoya.

Komatsu and Shelley take a back seat tonight, this match is all about the budding rivalry between KUSHIDA and Sho Tanaka. Mauro Ranallo explains that if you've been watching World Pro Wrestling recently, you would know that Sho Tanaka lost a singles match to KUSHIDA on The New Beginning Tour. He's looking for a major upset here and has the fighting spirit to make it happen, but unfortunately, it's the same old song and dance tonight. KUSHIDA wraps on the headscissors and swivels round to lock on the Hoverboard Lock and Sho Tanaka has to tap out again.

Before we kick off the first title match of the night, Ranallo observes that this could be Forever Hooligan's last chance at these Championships. These two teams know each other very well but their respective recent fortunes are obvious throughout. The Young Bucks put on a classy display, linking together for numerous impressive tandem maneouvers before Matt Jackson pins Alex Koslov after the More Bang For Your Buck. Post-match, Romero and Koslov shake their heads and blame each other for the defeat before leaving in seperate directions.

Killer Elite Squad © vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Hernandez

Lucha Underground represent! This is an interesting match in that both teams are primarly villainous, but the Osaka Castle Hall quickly pick their favourites and they're the defending Champions. No stranger to fighting bigger guys, Chavo uses his years of experience and sticks to moves that only require his athleticism. He shows a vicious side too, stamping on Davey Boy Smith Jr.'s hand when he's down on the canvas before turning referee Marty Asami's attention to Lance Archer so he can apply a chokehold. This kind of behaviour would blow up in Chavo's face, but when in danger, he tags out and lets big Hernandez tidy up his mess. Mick Foley calls Killer Elite Squad's offence "smashmouth" as they rally back and get some momentum going. Like a freight train, they mow over everything in their path with brute force and raw power. Chavo Jr. gets the hell out of there, he's had enough and leaves Hernandez to eat the Killer Bomb as the Champions retain.

Primarily a vehicle to build interest in Thursday's Okada vs. Kojima match, it's all the more surprising that those two spend very little time together in the ring. Okada has no interest in over-exerting himself so close to a big PPV match so he elects to take a breather when Kojima's team are firmly in the driving seat. Gedo is floored by Kojima's signature Cozy Lariat and as Marty Asami counts the pinfall, Mauro Ranallo claims that if he hits Okada with that move on Thursday, we'll be seeing the same result.

Their first match was nothing to write home about but thankfully this one is far more competitive. Both Omega and Taguchi adopt a far more serious wrestling style and work a damn good technical wrestling match. Omega's flashes of brilliance bring home the spoils though, an Inverted Frankensteiner spikes Taguchi on his head before the One Winged Angel seals 'The Cleaner's first successful title defence.

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/naito2.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/tnbvs.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/fale.jpg

Fale's imposing presence descends upon the Osaka Castle Hall. Silence. As he stands in the ring, his arms crossed in a stoic manner, the nerves are written across Tetsuya Naito's face. He wrattles and shakes his hand in nervous energy. The 'Stardust Genius' tries to rally support as the bell rings... but Osaka soaks him in boos! Mauro Ranallo recalls last year's New Beginning event, where Naito was booed out the building when entering for his match against Tomohiro Ishii only to leave to a standing ovation after an absolutely fantastic match with the 'Stone Pitbull. Will history repeat itself here? Fale dominates early on, hardly a surprise given his big size advantage. He clubs the 'Stardust Genius' from pillar to post, testing every fibre of his being, but Naito withstands the pain and keeps kicking out of Fale's rather lax pin attempts. The crowd get somewhat behind Naito when he makes his comeback, but Fale shuts him down with the Grenade. 'The Underboss' starts setting up for the devastating Bad Luck Fall, but at the last second, Naito manages kicks his legs just enough to break Fale's grip and shimmy out. Now Naito gets a head of steam and nails Fale with several running forearm smashes, but Fale cuts him off again with a big rib-crunching Spear! But Naito isn't dead yet, he kicks out just before the three. Back to the well once more, Fale tucks Naito into the Powerbomb position, but as Fale lifts him up, the 'Stardust Genius' swiftly shifts his weight and catches Fale with a Hurricanrana out of nowhere! He sits on Fale's chest, hooking the big guy's legs for the three!

If you've been tuning into World Pro Wrestling, you will have probably already seen this match. That doesn't deny its rightful place on this PPV broadcast though and it's always a damn good match too. The result is no surprise, just like Okada, Nakamura doesn't want to over-exert himself but Ishii clearly missed that memo. Despite having enough fighting spirit to fill a house, Ishii is completely overwhelmed by his bigger, more powerful opponents. Toru Yano tries to steal the win after a low blow and a roll-up, but Nagata rolls through the inside cradle and locks on the Nagata Lock II (Crossface), leaving YTR no choice but to submit.

After Yano has been attended to by the young boys, Nakamura slips back into the ring with his Intercontinental Championship over his shoulder, interrupting Nagata's celebration. He's clearly taken exception to what he feels was an unecessary submission move, designed only to send a message when he could have easily won the match by pinfall. The two exchange some verbals before Nakamura arrogantly bows before the 'Anti-Aging Star' and leaves him to continue celebrating his little victory.

Meiyu Tag © vs. Guns & Gallows

Unlike the first match where Bullet Club had Goto in peril, this rematch starts far more back and forth. Lots of quick tags early on as both teams try to stop the other from isolating an opponent on their side of the ring but the Bullet Club finally manage to trap Shibata in their corner. They pummel away at him with hard strikes, both to his face and his body, but Shibata keeps fighting back with forearms! He refuses to be bullied by the numbers game, that is, until Gallows delivers a huge knee to the gut that leaves Shibata down in a heap. The Challengers take control, but Shibata manages to break free of their clutches and make the hot tag. Goto clears house, but in yet another twist, Guns & Gallows subdue his momentum too. From here, the advantage swings back and forth amid a plethora of near falls. In the end, the sheer force of Goto and Shibata's offensive arsenal proves to be the difference. Goto hits a Fireman's Carry Neckbreaker to big Doc Gallows, an impressive feat of strength in itself and Shibata PK's him into a different universe for the victory.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship

Hiroshi Tanahashi © vs. A.J. Styles

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/champtanahashi.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/tnbvs.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/styles.jpg

These two are no strangers to each other so it's no surprise that this was a slick, technical wrestling showcase. Bullet Club's early involvement had Tanahashi frustrated, they clipped his feet as he ran to the ropes and then a little later on in the match, they collectively stomped a mudhole into the Champion on the outside. Thankfully, he made it back into the ring before the 20 count. Red Shoes Unno had no choice but to take a stand and eject the group from the ringside area before they ruined this match for good. From here on out, Styles fought clean as a whistle. He bought his A-game, a rather educated one that was proven by his smart counters. But he simply couldn't keep the Champion down. Tanahashi was in trouble when Styles bought him up for the Styles Clash, but a couple of short little kicks to the forehead forced a break. Paying the Challenger back for his High Fly Flow at New Year Dash, Tanahashi hit a Styles Clash of his own! The move has mystical powers or something because A.J. managed to kick out just before the three. The momentum swung back towards the Challenger after this, who spiked Tana on his head with a Bloody Sunday for another near fall. He went for a second Styles Clash but Tanahashi fought out again, this time refusing to let the Challenger hook his arms with his legs leaving Styles no chance but to put him down. It was at this point that Styles got frustrated and hesitated on a Springboard Forearm Smash attempt, which Tanahashi wisely countered with a Double Knee Facebreaker. Styles stood and tried to shake the cobwebs, but Tanahashi slammed him onto the back of his head with the Sling Blade. Now Styles was in prime position as Tanahashi scaled to the top turnbuckle... and leaped off with the High Fly Flow! - landing with as clean an impact as he's ever going to get. The pinfall followed shortly after and Hiroshi Tanahashi secured a second successful title defence.

Post-match, the young boys enter with ice packs and towels but Styles mostly refuses their attention, trying to leave of his own accord. He sat on the apron for a few seconds before stumbling away through the exit lane. Confetti fell from the ceiling as Tanahashi accepted a trophy and a large cheque and posed for ringside photographs for all the magazines. He took a microphone as young lion Sho Tanaka strapped the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship around his waist. Mauro Ranallo roughly translates his promo for us, saying that Tanahashi thanks the fans for their support and thanks referee Red Shoes Unno for ejecting the Bullet Club. The New Japan Cup is next and Tanahashi is more prepared than ever. Be it Makabe, Nagata, Kojima, Naito - anybody, he's ready for any challenge come Invasion Attack.

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/kotaibushi.jpg

This brings out a rather disgrunted Kota Ibushi, who peers at the ring eyeing a stare at the Champion. Mick Foley puts 2 and 2 together and deciphers that Tanahashi didn't say his name. Ibushi enters the ring and snatches the microphone from the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Once again, Ranallo translates and confirms that Ibushi is disappointed at being left out of Tanahashi's little mention. He thought that he proved at Wrestle Kingdom that he could hang with the very best in New Japan, but apparently not. Ibushi reminds Tanahashi that they were set to face off in last year's G1, but injury ruled Ibushi out. Tanahashi hasn't felt the force of the 'Golden Star' yet, but nevermind, he's entering the New Japan Cup and he's letting the Champion know that he's going to win and he's going to challenge him. Tanahashi acknowledges his words but retains his focus as the two size each other up. Ibushi departs before he overstays his welcome and leaves the Champion to celebrate his victory and drop some riffs on his air guitar to close the show.

The New Beginning In Osaka Prediction Results

Match Of The Night goes Tanahashi vs. Styles, scoring a slightly underwhelming 83; I expected higher. Naito vs. Fale scored a surprisingly high 82, as did Team Nagata vs. CHAOS.

On to the prediction results and something I noticed when tallying these was that if you'd have predicted all of the wrestlers, teams or trios to the left: you'd have scored 100%. :p Haha, oops.

Something else that surprised me was that only Smasher and Jedi predicted Tanahashi retaining against Styles, and the overwhelming favour that the two CHAOS teams had over their opponents even though I half-expected all of you to predict defeats for them. A bunch of fairly close scores here though, nobody did poorly, so congratulations guys. :)

This is a 24 hour notice for predictions. Whilst we wait, I figure I should really respond to some of your comments.

Comments: lolFale. Naito is much much better.

I love writing Fale's matches though, and truth be told, his match grades in my save have far exceeded my expectations.

Comments: Torn here. Tana is a good champ but AJ is the better story and gives a chance to start phasing out Tana from the main title scene.

Well, I went with real life for Wrestle Kingdom so I guess I had to veer off from that somewhere. Styles didn't win the title purely because that was my story in LOLTNA and I have no interest in duplicating it. I don't know where I stand with him or the Bullet Club.

Comments: I fckng love AJ Styles.

I wondered why he was in all of your diaries. ;) Is he your second man crush next to Manik? :p

Comments: I think that there will be a rematch on this story.

There's only rematches on title changes and honestly, I don't subscribe that idea anyway. It just means Champions have to lose twice... Styles has to prove himself before he gets another shot.

Comments: Setting up for Styles-Okada

Hmmm... that match does need to happen now that I think about it...

Comments: No clue who Tanaka or Yohei is

Two young boys that graduated from the Dojo in 2013. A lot of fans and wrestling writers say they are the best rookies New Japan has had in a long, long time. I'm impressed with both, but timing is very important with regards when and how I begin to ascend them.

Comments: I don't want those butts who beat Bad Influence in TNA in 2012 to be anyway near anything

So much negativity.

Comments: You love Meiyu Tag so they ain't losing!

That's some interesting logic. :p Okay I love Shibata but I could care more about Goto, truth be told... he's never done much for me.

Glad you noted that, no one points out that in both of my previous diaries AJ Styles was World Champ longer than anyone else. xP
