These eight guys worked a brisk pace, so this wasn't a very long match. They each got their stuff in but it was Mascara Dorada that stood out the most with his super-fast, super-sleeky luchador moveset. Liger took out the stiffest competition, KUSHIDA, with a Brainbuster en route to Dorada picking up the win for his team, pinning Komatsu after a Corkscrew Somersault Senton Bomb. It's no easy feat, Suzuki is one of the finest pound-for-pound wrestlers in Japan and Shelton is a decorated amateur wrestler himself. Iizuka is no slouch but he's showing his age, he's certainly years behind anybody in this match and so it's no surprise that he's pinned after a Bicycle High Knee from Marufuji. This match will have done them no favours either, they struggle to get any momentum going and Tama Tonga picks up a rare victory for his team after a Headshrinker (Jumping Double Underhook DDT) to Alex Koslov. Romero has another argument with his tag partner, but this time it ends with a handshake and a quick hug as Alex Koslov departs. Mick Foley wonders if this is the last time we'll see these two tag up. Makabe's right knee is still bandaged. Yano tries every trick in his playbook - he pulls off the turnbuckle pad, he pulls Makabe's hair, he low-blows him after tangling with the ref, he tries a few roll-ups and pulls the tights but none of these tricks work. Eventually YTR runs out of ideas leading to Makabe lariating him out of his boots before dropping the King Kong Knee Drop for the win. Mick Foley elaborates the importance of getting back on track. Instead of trying to engage Meiyu Tag here, the Bullet Club trio play it smart, cutting off their opponents with chop blocks and other such moves. The finish comes rather abruptly though, Anderson hits a Gun Stun to Taguchi and is able to pick up the win before Goto or Shibata can even really react. Styles directs the traffic, letting the big Bad Luck Fale dominate as him and Yujiro stopped their opponents from gaining any momentum. Considering both Tanahashi and Naito had absorbed a lot of punishment in Osaka, it's no real surprise that they are far from competitive here and that makes the Captain ripe for the pickings. The leader of the Bullet Club drops him with a Styles Clash and picks up the victory. Match Time: 15:02 Rating: B http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/50pxnjpw.png NEVER Openweight Championship Tomohiro Ishii © vs. Manabu Nakanishi http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewTitles/neveropenweight.jpg http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/ishii.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/tnbvs.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/nakanishi.jpg The first of three CHAOS vs. veteran's singles matches, we start with the one that least requires reasonable intelligence. Nakanishi might be slightly immobile in his old age, but that just means he's an immovable object, a lumbering boulder that smashes anything and everything in its path. Ishii has to chip away at him with hard strikes - his stiff chops and forearms slowly wear the big man down but Nakanishi gets a second wind, delivering a huge release Northern Lights Suplex before setting up a Torture Rack. Ishii blocks and delivers some stiff elbows that force a break before it takes three huge Lariats to knock the Challenger from his feet. Nakanishi sits up but Ishii flattens him with a Sliding D for a near fall. As Nakanishi stands, the 'Stone Pitbull' continues with his hard strikes and just manages to elevate the big man up for a Vertical Drop Brainbuster to retain his championship. Match Time: 15:26 Rating: B http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/50pxnjpw.png Special Singles Match Kazuchika Okada vs. Satoshi Kojima http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/okada.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/tnbvs.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/kojima.jpg Few could have estimated the level of greatness this match would reach. Kojima was in full grumpy veteran mode, he had no time for Okada's games tonight. 'The Rainmaker' had to eat brutal stiff knife edge chops and hard punishing forearms to all areas of his handsome face. It wasn't long before the Nagoya Rainbow Hall questioned their alliegance, they didn't want to support this mean, nasty Kojima and instead starting rooting for Okada. Talking of the 27 year old, his offence was reduced to brief spurts, he simply couldn't get any momentum going at all tonight. Kojima was in control and signalled for the Cozy Lariat, but Okada saw it coming and caught him flush on the chin with the Too Awesome Dropkick. Now Okada was in the ascendancy, he hit his signature Diving Elbow Drop from the top rope and signalled for the Rainmaker Lariat... but Kojima beat him to the punch with a left arm Lariat of his own. Kojima then hit a Cozy Cutter, but Okada managed to slip his shoulders out just before the three. Time for another Cozy Lariat to finish this one off, Kojima charged in but Okada ducked underneath it, slipped behind and took Kojima over with an absolutely beautiful Bridging German Suplex. Kojima kicked out at 2, but Okada gripped his right arm and stood behind him as he bought him back to his feet. He swiveled Kojima around and took his head off with a Rainmaker Lariat to seal a victory in a Match Of The Year Contender. Post-match, the young lions rolled in with ice packs and towels. Kojima regathered his bearings and rolled out the ring before departing towards the locker room clutching at his neck. A valiant effort, but 'The Rainmaker' had prevailed tonight. Okada was joined in the ring by Gedo as ring announcer Kimihiko Ozaki handed them both a microphone. Okada thanked the fans for getting behind him, but insisted he didn't need their help anyway. He smirked as the fans laughed, but he had some sad news to deliver... the New Japan officials have overlooked him for the New Japan Cup. He thinks it's because they know he would win and they wouldn't want him challenging Nakamura now would they? But Okada is putting everybody in New Japan on notice, he's coming for championship glory one way or another and money will rain down on everybody once again. Match Time: 18:03 Rating: A (match), B+ (promo) http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/50pxnjpw.png IWGP Intercontinental Championship Shinsuke Nakamura © vs. Yuji Nagata http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewTitles/iwgpintercontinental.jpg http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/icshinsuke.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/tnbvs.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/nagata.jpg One could almost feel sorry for these two having to follow that, but the slow pace they worked at the start allowed the fans to recover. Nagata's strategy was formed around the homework he had done, he countered a lot of Nakamura's early offence and took him down to the mat where he could assert not only his weight advantage in keeping the Champion grounded, but his experience advantage in always being in control and knowing exactly where Nakamura was going. Once this contest got going, so did Nakamura. He's like fine wine. He switched gears, a Boma Ye out of nowhere gave him some seperation and some time to recharge his batteries. The match was slipping from Nagata's grasp, he tried for a Backdrop but Nakamura desperately fought out with elbows. He tried a Nagata Lock II (Crossface), but the 'King Of Strong Style' rolled through and caught him with a BOMA YE! Nagata stood straight back up! 'How is that even possible?', said Mick Foley, but Nakamura simply floored him with another BOMA YE!!! and this time, he picked up the win. Match Time: 23:55 Rating: A http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/50pxnjpw.png http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/icshinsuke.jpg Both Nagata and Nakamura require some kind of immediate attention. Like Kojima before him, Nagata is whisked away, but not before paying his respect to the 'King of Strong Style' in the form of a quick post-match handshake. Nakamura is handed his Championship, a giant cheque, and a trophy, all of which he recieves from various New Japan officials. He poses for photographs before ring announcer Kimihiko Ozani hands him a microphone. Nakamura's first comment is a witty quip: his neck hurts. This draws laughter from the still-packed Nagoya Rainbow Hall, Foley going as far as to claim he hasn't seen a single person heading for the exits yet. Nakamura brings up the upcoming New Japan Cup and he's hoping the eventual winner challenges him. He remembers last year's tournament, he won it and was then victorious at Invasion Attack. Does he think the same will happen this year? Does he think if he'll beat the winner? He only has one word for that... http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/NewRoster/makabe.jpg But before he can finish speaking, before he can say the one word that's been branded on numerous shirts, scarves and bandanas, Immigrant Song rings out and Togi Makabe saunters down the ramp. Like Ibushi snatched the microphone from Tanahashi, Makabe does the same for Nakamura. Makabe has seen plenty of Nakamura throughout the New Beginning Tour. He's seen him lose and yet here he is, still the King. No, Makabe's the King, the King Kong! Nakamura gets up close and mocks Makabe for losing to Ishii at Wrestle Kingdom. This draws a big 'oooh' from the crowd - if this was in an English speaking country, you would have called it a sick burn. But Makabe shrugs it off and promises to get back on track when he wins the New Japan Cup and challenges Nakamura for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Invasion Attack. Shinsuke takes his challenge very seriously and the show closes with the two staring each other down. TBKT
I've been reading without predicting and rather enjoy what you're doing. I've only recently started following NJPW again, but I'm all for Makabe being pushed - he was one of my favourites when I was watching AJPW and NJPW regularly years ago. Mootinie
Just call me MZero! Makabe vs Nakamura should be a lot of fun. You underrated the Bullet Club, big mistake. I've been reading without predicting and rather enjoy what you're doing. I've only recently started following NJPW again, but I'm all for Makabe being pushed - he was one of my favourites when I was watching AJPW and NJPW regularly years ago. Ah welcome aboard, I'm glad you're enjoying it. Yes, I do feel he's underutilized in real life. The only reason I didn't give him the NEVER Openweight is because he's far surpassed that title IMO. I had both The New Beginning shows predictions done on page six Mootinie . Sadly I miss match one. Yes, indeed you did! Sorry. I just updated the scores now, thank you for letting me know. Hashasheen
I underrated the Bullet Club because I don't rate them at all in real life. Individually I like some members but as a unit, I find them boring. I find the Bucks annoying, while the Fale/Tonga duo has some time to grow and work, IMO. Karl & Doc are just fine, while Cody's just a young lion and Kenny Omega can go in and then go out for better solo prospects. AJ rules as the face of Bullet Club though, even if Karl is the leader. An idea I had back in December was that AJ would bring in ex-TNA guys like Beer Money, etc... to NJPW to replace some of the sub-part NJPW gaijins. "Zayn, Owens, Balor, Itami, yay, MORE TALENT for them to waste!" -- dbrulz69 on WWE's callup of Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, and Finn Balor. Sin Cara and Tye Dillinger were also called up, but he did not comment on those. "Wait, why is Taker challenging Sting.... when Sting has started something with.... The Authority?" -- dbrulz69 on Undertaker's Royal Rumble appearance to challenge Sting to a WrestleMania match. "Very good brawl here, nice to see Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds onto a car hood. But knowing the 'E, Cena will still be Superman." -- dbrulz69 on the brawl between John Cena and Dean Ambrose early on the Rumble PPV. "Reigns.... vs. Show..., why did I pay for this? Wake me up when it's all over, please. -- dbrulz69 on hearing of the Reigns vs. Show main event. "Apparently, the match was okay. For once, I'm glad Roman won, because f**k Big Slow." -- dbrulz69 on Reigns beating Show in what was said to be a good match. "Final two, Orton.... and Cena. Cena vs. Reigns, makes sense. Super Cena passes on a generation. Orton and Cena fight, and Orton RKO's out of nowhere? Orton throws over Cena and.... Orton just won the Rumble. WWE has officially lost their s**t." -- dbrulz69 on Randy Orton winning the Royal Rumble by last eliminating John Cena. http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b515/ThePiOverlord111/TNA_zps6ry9n6b3.jpg TNA: "Time limits? "Oh lord, why did I just have to watch that Magnus vs. Anderson match. Simply terrible. -- dbrulz69 on Magnus vs. Mr. Anderson, the second iMPACT's main event, horridly bombing. But why... is Roode feuding with Magnus and Storm feuding with Hardy now? #TNALogic." -- dbrulz69 on Storm not feuding with Roode despite Storm's big non-title win on iMPACT. Well EC3, it was nice knowing you. See you under the bridge, brother. -- dbrulz69 on Roode ending EC3's unbeaten streak out of nowhere at TNA Genesis. http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b515/ThePiOverlord111/ROH_zps1epprpzs.jpg ROH: "Just a great month for ROH. Easily better than TNA week in and week out" -- dbrulz69 on ROH beating TNA consistently in the month of January. "Alright, that was a pretty decent match given by Briscoe and Fish. Wondering still why the hell Fish got a shot though." -- dbrulz69 on the title main event of ROH Injustice on PPV, Jay Briscoe vs. Bobby Fish. "But, wow, what a good match in Daniels vs. Patron. "Tyler Breeze as champ? I can handle this." -- dbrulz69 on Tyler Breeze beating CJ Parker to win the NXT Title at NXT: Takeover. "Okay, so Sawyer Fulton replaces Cara. Kalisto and Fulton, already makes no sense. At least they had Kulton drop to Enzo and Cassady, my personal fav tag team. SAWFT!" -- dbrulz69 on Fulton's replacement of Sin Cara's tag title, only for him and Kalisto to lose to Enzo and Cass. "I'm honestly surprised. Charlotte vs. Becky kind of disappointed me. They just didn't seem to click. -- dbrulz69 on Charlotte vs. Becky not living up to expectations. Conclusion: Overall, it was an okay month for wrestling. crackerjack
In an effort to make my diary more complete, I've decided to start providing updates on what's going on outside of the world of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Instead of just having a bullet-pointed column or news reports, I decided to throw this out as a chance for guest writers to get involved. Give me your thoughts on this please, I'm open to feedback and/or invitations to write a column - if you're a diary writer yourself, feel free to use this as a vehicle to show your talents and promote your own diary to my readers who may or may not be reading yours. Full creative control folks, it's a dream come true. First up, we have resident internet smark Packerman120 He has a rather unique take on the oftentimes ridiculous booking of the TEW AI... Count me in on this as well, Moot.

Mootinie
New Japan Cup 2015 Day One Preview http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/njc2015.jpg http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/njc-ladder-1.png New Japan Cup Day One 28th February, 2015 A shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship? Or maybe Shinsuke Nakamura and his IWGP Intercontinental title? Maybe the NEVER Openweight is the one I want? These will be the questions the victor of this tournament will have to ask themselves when they stand tall above fifteen competitors in just over a week's time. A guaranteed title shot at our next PPV, Invasion Attack, awaits the winner of this prestigious knockout tournament. Hiroshi Tanahashi won the first in 2005, who will win the 11th year? In the clear standout match of the evening, three-time winner Hirooki Goto meets two-time winner Yuji Nagata. These are the only two competitors in this year's tournament to have won it previously, but one of them will have to go home on the first day. Big Roguey
New Japan Cup Day One Predictions Eight Man Tag Team Match Captain New Japan, Ryusuke Taguchi, Yohei Komatsu & Sho Tanaka vs. Suzuki-gun (Davey Boy Smith Jr., El Desperado, TAKA Michinoku & Taichi) Comments: Hmmm, Team of Young Lions & Guys I Don't Like vs Suzuki-Gun...think I'll go with Suzuki-gun here New Japan Cup First Round Shelton X Benjamin vs. Bad Luck Fale Comments: Shelton's not really got much of a presence outside of Suzuki-gun whilst Fale is a mid-tier member of the Bullet Club. Fale winning gives BC some wins on the board as well. New Japan Cup First Round Kota Ibushi vs. Yujiro Takahashi Comments: Yujiro isn't even close to winning here. New Japan Cup First Round Tetsuya Naito vs. Doc Gallows Comments: LOS INGOBERNABLES (Naito rules) New Japan Cup First Round YOSHI-HASHI vs. Karl Anderson Comments: Karl's just leagues above YOSHI. New Japan Cup First Round Tomoaki Honma vs. Kazushi Sakuraba Comments: HONMAMANIA! Six Man Tag Team Match Hiroshi Tanahashi & Time Splitters vs. CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Gedo & Jado) Comments: Local men Gedo & Jado let down Okada. New Japan Cup First Round Togi Makabe vs. Toru Yano Comments: Normally I'd go with Yano but you're building Makabe up here and I want to see where it goes. New Japan Cup First Round Satoshi Kojima vs. Katsuyori Shibata Comments: Kozy's not even going to dent Shibata. Shibata runs on pure rage and the blood of young boys. New Japan Cup First Round Yuji Nagata vs. Hirooki Goto Comments: Yuji's good but Goto's younger. Bonus Question Worth 5 Points Who Will Win The New Japan Cup? I'm torn here. Makabe or Shibata is who I'm betting on (having worked through the brackets). I think Makabe just now has the more interesting hook with the potential of a match with Shinsuke for the IC belt so Togi Makabe is my pick for the winner of the New Japan Cup. New Japan Cup First Round YOSHI-HASHI vs. Karl Anderson Comments: Big Anderson Fan New Japan Cup First Round Tomoaki Honma vs. Kazushi Sakuraba Comments: Dislike both, but at least Honma has a cool jacket Six Man Tag Team Match Hiroshi Tanahashi & Time Splitters vs. CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Gedo & Jado) Comments: Pretty tough here, but gotta go Tanahashi here New Japan Cup First Round Togi Makabe vs. Toru Yano Comments: Really enjoy Makabe, not so much Toru.
