Another good show. A few results went the way I half thought they would but I predicted the other way. (Eg with the Young Bucks - I'd always job them as I think they're awful so it makes predicting their results tricky!)

If this leads to Naito joining Suzuki-Gun I'll be pleased...

New Japan Cup Day Three Prediction Results

Hashasheen: 7

Kijar: 7

packerman120: 7

smurphy1014: 7

Wolfman84: 6

StarshipAwesome: 6

TBKT: 6

MHero: 5

Uncrewed: 5

The_CoC: 5

thecoolestjedi12: 4

And... there's an extra five points to Packerman120, Kijar and Crackerjack, all of whom correctly predicted that Tetsuya Naito would win the New Japan Cup before a single bell had even been rung.

Congratulations to those three and commiserations to those of you that were so close, yet so far away with your Kota Ibushi picks.

Time to take a look at the final prediction scoresheet...

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/final-prediction-table%20-%20march.jpg

Congratulations to Kijar who topped the table. Him, Packerman, Uncrewed and Crackerjack have all earned prediction prizes and I may as well throw a little something to MHero for being just one point off. Imagine if he'd predicted Toru Yano that one time. :p

It goes without saying that I am very thankful for the continued support - but I thought I'd let you know anyway. :p

Suzuki-gun (Shelton X Benjamin, TAKA Michinoku & Taichi) defeated Kazushi Sakuraba, Sho Tanaka & Yohei Komatsu in 12:03 by pinfall. (C+)

The Road To Invasion Attack was announced as one of the shortest, just four shows before we arrived at the Jingu Stadium. And it started with this match. Although Sakuraba tried to direct traffic for the young boys, they still couldn't quite meet the level of their more experienced opponents and Yohei Komatsu fell prey to Shelton's Paydirt.

Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) defeated Captain New Japan, Mascara Dorada & Time Splitters in 14:56 by pinfall. (B-)

Fresh off a not so successful New Beginning tour, the Bullet Club kicked off this short tour as they meant to go on. The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion stood out, picking up the victory on Alex Shelley courtesy of a One Winged Angel. Mascara Dorada, the #1 Contender, did little to worry the Champion here and will be hoping he puts in a better performance next time.

CHAOS (Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuchika Okada, YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano) defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Katsuyori Shibata, Hirooki Goto, Tomoaki Honma & Togi Makabe in 29:42 by pinfall. (B+)

The smallest island in Japan (Shikoku) that coincidentally featured the smallest crowd of the tour probably got treated to the best match. Carnage was the name of the game and the aptly-named CHAOS unit revelled in that environment. These ten heavyweights threw bombs until Honma simply had nothing left in his tank. Nakamura picked up the win with a Boma Ye and thoroughly enjoyed his post-match celebration. He told the fans that CHAOS will walk out of the Jingu Stadium victorious in all their matches before asking them if they believed him... Did they? According to Nak, "YEAOH!"

Tetsuya Naito & Hiroyoshi Tenzan defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi & Yuji Nagata in 19:45 by pinfall. (B)

A somewhat competitive match that featured an inspired performance from the New Japan Cup winner. He moved faster than ever before, executing his moves with a little extra oomph en route to picking up a victory courtesy of the Stardust Press to Yuji Nagata. Naito took time to brag after the match, he wondered if that was all Tanahashi had to offer him. He got some choice words in response.

"To be truthful, I didn't expect your A-game so early. I have to ask, are you peaking already Naito? It's not the 29th yet, you need to pace yourself. It's the reason I am so special, 38 years old and still wrestling like I am 28. You beat me the last time we faced off, you won the G1 Climax but you disappointed me when you doubted yourself. You let not only yourself down but you let all your fans down and that's why they've been booing you ever since. Nobody wants to support a loser Naito, they want to support somebody that promises to win whatever the odds. I hope you're prepared for the Shinjiku because I'll be looking to strike your G1 Climax win off my record for good."

Invasion Attack 2015 Preview

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/NJPW%202015/invasionattack2015.jpg

Invasion Attack 2015

March 29th, 2015

The third annual Invasion Attack sees Hiroshi Tanahashi defend his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against the New Japan Cup 2015 Winner, Tetsuya Naito. Tanahashi has never won at this event, he lost to Okada in 2013 and Nakamura in 2014. Likewise, Tetsuya Naito has never won here either - he was injured during 2013's extravaganza and then recorded defeat in a singles match against Tomohiro Ishii last year. Naito has also never won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, he's lost two shots to Okada and one to Tanahashi. Can he make good on his fourth opportunity?

Tomohiro Ishii defends his NEVER Openweight title against Tomoaki Honma and Meiyu Tag clash with 'The Rainmaker' and the 'Loose Explosion' in tag team title action. Marufuji and Suzuki go head to head and Kota Ibushi looks for revenge in mystery as he tags with two unannounced competitors to take on three representives of Suzuki-gun.

Join us at the Jingu Stadium, live on PPV, iPPV and NJPW WORLD!

Thanks for the predictions so far guys. I have a World Pro Wrestling to post and then Invasion Attack - my aim is to put them up on Sunday and Tuesday respectively.

Also, keep an eye out for KENTA if you can grab him.

I'm not that interested in him to be honest. But if his WWE deal comes up and I can grab him at a good price, I'll probably take a punt. I had a look at the DDT guy you suggested but he's a bit old for me. That, and I'm hesitant to make new signings unless they would make sense in real life. NJPW wouldn't steal a rookie from another promotion, that's not the Japanese custom, so new signings outside of the odd tour appearances will be a dime a dozen.

Also, why is it World Heavyweight and not just Heavyweight? I don't think New Japan has that distinction internally.

They tend to just call it the Heavyweight, yeah. It is a title that has been defended outside of Japan though, so I feel calling it the World Heavyweight holds more gravitas. That and it's just second nature to me to always refer to the major title as the 'World' title, even if it's not called as such.

By the way, how's NOAH looking?

They released Marufuji... for some reason... but they're doing okay. Hovering around 70 for each of their shows now. Muhammad Yone is the GHC Champion and they're using Takeshi Suguira as their #2 guy. They also just released a Junior that I am probably going to sign... as did Dragon Gate, but you'll see them a bit later on. :)

They released Marufuji... for some reason...

I don't follow NOAH too closely, but that seems insane.

IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship

The Young Bucks © vs. Time Splitters (KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley)

Comments: Eh, why not?

NWA Tag Team Championship

Killer Elite Squad (Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr.) © vs. TMDK (Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste)

Comments: I do like TMDK from the little I've seen of them.

Special Singles Match

Togi Makabe vs. Toru Yano

Comments: Probably not, but I don't care. GO Y-T-R!

Six Man Tag Team Match

Suzuki-gun (Shelton X Benjamin, TAKA Michinoku & Taichi) vs. Kota Ibushi, ??? & ???

Comments: Not exactly the strongest lineup Suzuki-gun could field.

Bonus Question Worth 1 Point Per Correct Guess

Who Are Kota Ibushi's Mystery Partners? Eh...everybody else is going for DDT guys, so I'll be different and say Sakuraba and Nagata.

Special Interpromotional Singles Match

Naomichi Marufuji vs. Minoru Suzuki

Comments: If Mara is gone from NOAH, maybe he'll become a regular here.

IWGP Tag Team Championship

Meiyu Tag (Katsuyori Shibata & Hirooki Goto) © vs. Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI

Comments: This is probably wrong, but it would give Okada something to occupy his time while he stays out of the Heavyweight picture for a bit. Plus I've got a soft spot for YOSHI-HASHI.

NEVER Openweight Championship

'Stone Pitbull' Tomohiro Ishii © vs. 'Mr. Kokeshi' Tomoaki Honma

Comments: I would LOVE to pick Honma, but I just...can't.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship

'Once In A Century' Hiroshi Tanahashi © vs. 'Stardust Genius' Tetsuya Naito

Comments: I think Naito has to lose here to send him down the road to potentially turning heel as he has in real life. If you do make that happen, I hope you spend paragraphs describing Naito taking off his mask and jacket before his matches. :D

Hey, if Juice Robinson can work a tour, so can a second-generation Japanese wrestler! :p

They tend to just call it the Heavyweight, yeah. It is a title that has been defended outside of Japan though, so I feel calling it the World Heavyweight holds more gravitas. That and it's just second nature to me to always refer to the major title as the 'World' title, even if it's not called as such.
Mhm. I'd always just consider it as "IWGP Heavyweight Championship of the World" in that case, and so on for all the titles (mentally of course, don't rename them all that way). It keeps the weight division concept in mind while illustrating the value of each title every time a title defense is announced.

Seventy? Le wut. Also, losing Marufuji is surprising considering he's a member of their board of directors, IRL, but I guess they've got to move out the old and get in with the new, relatively speaking. Yone used to wrestle all the way back with FMW, IIRC. Even appeared on a double-header with ECW that was done in Japan, I believe.

Let me guess, it was Taichi Ishimori?

I think with World Heavyweight though, you know it's the big one. It's the major Championship that competitors all over the world aspire to hold. CMLL name all their titles World Welterweight, World Lightweight and such like that, it just doesn't quite feel right. There should only be one World title, but I guess that's a very Americanized way of thinking.

I was shocked by it too. He was their Head Booker at the time, so it really didn't make sense. You say out with the old, but Yone is 38 and I think Suguira is too. They've kept Takayama too. It doesn't make any sense to me, but it just means I can have Marufuji all to myself. Cheers NOAH!

You'll see.

Shelton X Benjamin defeated Sho Tanaka in 8:44 by pinfall. (C+)

The young lion continues to develop his repetiore under Saku's tutilage and showcases a lovely Cross Armbreaker here. He hardly has the strength to apply much pressure though and that statement is just a paraphrase of the match really. Shelton controls the bulk of this contest with his superior conditioning and years of experience, finishing little Sho off with a vicious Superkick.

Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Karl Anderson, Tama Tonga & Kenny Omega) defeated Satoshi Kojima, Takaaki Watanabe, Ryusuke Taguchi & Mascara Dorada in 13:23 by pinfall. (C+)

As the New Japan Army make their entrances, a flashback video lets us know that Mascara Dorada's team beat Kenny Omega's on the Monday with this match taking place on the Wednesday. The experience and superior communication leads the 'Biz Cliz' to victory in this one. They work like a well-oiled machine right up until Bad Luck Fale's devastating Bad Luck Fall puts Watanabe to bed. Kenny Omega cuts a promo post-match, in English no less despite being knowingly fluent in Japanese. He claims that once he's tidied Dorada up, he'll ship his dirty Mexican ass back to El Salvador or whatever hole he crawled out of in the first place to challenge him.

And continuing with the Bullet Club, we cut to video footage of a Friday's Ring Of Honor show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - the Turner Hall Boardroom to be exact. As Michael Elgin tagged with Jay Briscoe and Jay Lethal to take on reDRagon and Roderick Strong; Karl Anderson, Tama Tonga and Doc Gallows joined AJ Styles is ruining the match for everybody as senior official Todd Sinclair had to throw it out as a no contest. It was here that they laid down the challenge for Supercard Of Honor in a week's time, a Bullet Club team vs. a Ring Of Honor team!

Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma & Alex Shelley defeated CHAOS (Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii & Jado) in 14:35 by pinfall. (B-)

He might have seemed out of place on paper, but Alex Shelley was very much at home teaming with Makabe and Honma. His job was to nullify Jado, and he did just that keeping the veteran off-balance with his superior athleticism. This was Makabe's first victory of the tour, he lost on Wednesday and Friday the week previous, but picked up this victory on the Monday. It was his King Kong Knee Drop to Jado that sealed the deal, but Yano seemed nonplussed as he escaped with his DVD. Ishii and Honma came face-to-face, and had words, but no physical contact was made between the two as Ishii departed to join his fleeing CHAOS stablemates.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & KUSHIDA defeated Tetsuya Naito & Ryusuke Taguchi in 20:52 by submission. (B)

We saw brief highlights of this match, culminating in Taguchi tapping out to a Texas Cloverleaf. The Champion took a microphone after the match and told his Invasion Attack opponent that he too can win matches by submission. He sees Naito's Pluma Blanca and he tells him that anything he can do, the 'Once In A Century Talent' can do better.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Yuji Nagata defeated Tetsuya Naito & Manabu Nakanishi in 22:26 by pinfall. (B)

Then we get highlights of this clash, just to show that Naito lost twice in two days to the Champion. This time it was a pinfall victory after the High Fly Flow. Although Tanahashi pinned Nakanishi this time, he did it with a move off the top rope and told Naito that once again, he can do such moves far better than the #1 Contender. Tanahashi wondered if Naito was doubting himself now and looked forward to testing him in the ring at our next stop in Shinjiku - Invasion Attack 2015!
