Little head tilts or quirks make things feel less repetitive. So Darkness Cat in those sockpuppet renders stands out to me not because it's better than the others but because that annoyed look with her looking at something or someone off to the side of the camera operator adds a bit of personality to the character. willr0cks recent female workers are a good example about how little angles make things look less artificial - if you look at them each of those characters has their head tilted slightly differently to the others which makes each feel like a distinct individual. There's nothing wrong with characters looking straight at the camera and some of sockpuppet's renders in that group are stellar -Alexis Lee Littlefeather, Raquel Alvarado & Toni Parissi are brilliant and not one of them is bad but if every character in your game has that same sort of render with that same sort of head positioning then graphically it can start to feel repetitive. To me it's just nice to have those little body positioning changes to make the characters feel a little more distinct.</p>

Some people didn't like that because it's difficult to make alts of them or put masks on them. I've been through so many lighting styles over my time here (close to 10 years I think maybe?) that I've lost count. Someone once described my lighting as "looking like a sun blew up in their face". <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> I went through a phase where I based a lot of my renders on real life workers. That was polarizing. Lately, I've tried to do most of my stuff in front profile with subtle asymmetrical expressions and things like hair movement or eye position to convey emotion and personality.</p><p> </p><p> And finally, some people are just better at certain styles. What you do in a certain style, might look ten times better than what I can do that way, so I don't think it's necessarily being criticized for doing things a certain way. Just do what works for you.</p>

Well said sockpuppet. I think it's all a matter of personal taste. For me the straight on it looks generic but I can totally understand how people who want to put masks and the like on existing renders would prefer the straight on look. It makes sense for you to do renders that way and with other people doing renders with head tilts and the like there should be more than enough variety. I also got that you were trying hard to create personality with those facial expressions (Darkness Cat looks extremely P.O'd)

WillyWillyWilly I know you were only joking. Your a class act ;)

Thanks to everyone who does these re-renders and posts them - it's great to have more choices for workers.

I've rarely seen any unrespectful feedback here, but don't let any feedback get to you. Unfortunately I barely get feedback myself. I think people hold back in general as to not hurt renderer's feelings, or maybe because it's too obvious a flaw or something that can hardly be fixed. The models I use, for one, are still generation 4 (now it's gen 8 I think?) so of course they look less detailed. No real sense giving that feedback, but head position and expressions are easy changes. Lightning seems easy but I for one never studied how it works and am rather left "in the dark" :p. Like sockpuppet I've also been through 10's of lightning setups (some that people here shared) and am still in the middle about which one to use. It's not easy if you're not a professional, and I assume few people here are. Don't get me wrong: the renders do look professional, but I mean the artists here are probably not working in the gfx industry (out of curiosity: is there someone?). I sometimes comment on several renders I really like, but basically appreciate every rerender here.

95+% of my stuff was for WMMA5, and all of it was female workers, which not a lot of people are interested in. But if you're doing to for cheers and kudos, that's not the right motivation imo (though it's always nice to get, obviously ;)). Even as a hobbyist, it's just way better if you receive any constructive feedback, because otherwise you keep lingering in mediocrity (or worse). The rare feedback I got was superhelpful. I don't want to call this a hobby, but given I spend hundreds of hours on it by now, and at least 150$ afaik (don't keep track anymore), it's crazy NOT to call it a hobby. :o If I knew how many hours it would've taken, I should've taken an online course or read the manual. But you think it's just something temporary (though I spend far less time on it). Rerendering is definitely something that requires skill, apart from just creating random renders which is a lot easier than people think, and I've wasted several hours on practically no output.

TLDR; It comes down to me being very appreciative that several people devote their time for this (albeit uncoordinated) project to make the game more awesome for us by doing this. So know that your work here is appreciated, as it's very hard, but also know that feedback can be very helpful in your journey.

Several you can find through a simply google image search. There are also downloads in the first post that combine a lot of previous renders (that mentions the artist too). The link still works. The sole issue would be that there'd be no mention of the creator, but is that truly a problem for anyone? It's not for me, in any case. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I think that has been attempted before hasn't it? I could be wrong though! Would be a huge task. Annoyingly I went through every page and got every render when I made my mod, but I used a lot of pictures for new characters. I should have made copies when I did it really and had one big picture file with every render in is

Speaking of renders, and like I just said I have gone back and got what I could find, but has anyone ever attempted Ieyoshi Shimakage? He's a future star in Japan, huge star quality and sex appeal, charismatic....yet his picture doesn't reflect that at all lol.

I think I asked before, but anyone done a Johnny Bloodstone? If not, I'm surprised, especially with his face painted alt. He's someone I could see King Bison having fun with lol. One of the last "big stars" I haven't seen an upgrade on. But maybe I missed it?
