<p>Looking for some advice on how to stay afloat with MAW. This is my first game as the company in 2016 version of TEW. I'm losing money every month and taking a whooping in the regional battles to boot. I'm in May and already starting to worry I'll go out of Business. I lost around 10k in Jan bringing in Nicolas Lopes for the RCI then I've lost around 7k each month after. I haven't raised any production values. The economy is around mid 30's and rising and the industry is a solid B. I'm probably only using around half my roster each show and booking one show a month. I've hired no new talent and I don't think anyone has downsides in their contracts. Every month when I save a little more on wages I gain less from sponsors. I don't want to do anything gamey like release my announce team, plus they have great chemistry <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />.</p><p> </p><p>

Is it just a matter of time before I gain more sponsorship money or do I have to find away to cut costs? my momentum is tanking and my best show is a 36 the lowest was 30 I think. my best match was 52 and best angle 54 off memory. If It was not for the production being so mediocre in comparison to my rivals my shows would be scoring mid to high 40's I'm sure. I feel that with my lack of growth I will struggle to make the money to raise the values It seems like a vicious cycle. I'm really enjoying this game early on and I don't want to go bust. has anyone had similar problems and if so how long did it take you to steady the ship and how did you do so?</p>

<p>How many matches are you having each event? Being a small company, you don't have to pay downsides, so have minimum people involved in each event. Try not to use more than 10 people in each event.</p><p> </p><p>

Don't expect to grow quickly with MAW. They have neither the money nor the talent to have an explosive growth. MAW is more about trying to stay afloat while being a stepping stone for talents.</p>

I was having about four to five matches with one sometimes being a tag match. Lost on average 7k per month. I ended up bitting the bullet in Jan 17 and sold the boot camp. That was costing me 5k a month. I've started turning a small profit of a few hundred dollars a month ever since. Didn't really want to do that but it seemed the only way no to go out of business.

  • 1 year later...

I started a game with this company and for some reason it was a lot easier than I expected (or at least not nearly as hard to stay afloat). I wanted to sort of stay true to the company so as Jay Fair & booker I kept Marv & Ernest this time on commentary, have kept the dojo around and haven't really 'fired' anyone.

I've allowed plenty of people's contracts to expire: Ade Nelson, George Wolfe, Copperhead, Johnny Needham, Ralph Liotta, Trix Triumph & Lisa Bowen. The only one I really regret is George Wolfe. I just wanted an even slimmer roster.

My company inadvertently became a home for retiring folks. Brought in Bryan Holmes, Joel Bryant, JD Morgan and Joe Sexy when they announced their retirements for some farewell matches. Wanted to bring in Ricky Dale Johnson but we were too small for him.

Dojo wise we've had 7 graduates, the first three we signed but they don't look like anything more than jobbers, the last four we've let go.

The only other signing I've made has been Prometheus. I've always been a big fan of him and Gargantuan even if they aren't anything special outside Menace/SQ so I wanted to see what I could do with him. He's been renamed The Bodyguard and helps out Rated R, Roderick Remus. I plan on bringing in CGC World Champion, Gargantuan and BCG Champion, Funakoshi soon. I'm a huge Funakoshi guy. BCG are probably closing and I've got him on loan from SAISHO so once that loan ends I'll make his stay permanent. I'd like to get Rokuemon and Kobayashi on loan as well.

Rip Chord Invitational 2016 was won by Cheetah Boy who at the time looked like the most-seasoned guy on the roster and the best face to take the mantel but he was disappointing. He beat Greg Gauge in the final and went on to lose against Roderick Remus for the MAW Championship.

Rip Chord Invitational 2017 was won by Syd Collier who has probably been most fortunate in my booking but he's solid so I don't mind. He beat Greg Gauge in the finals again and went on to win the MAW Tag Team belts back from Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray. I see Collier & Jones as The Mechanics pretty much. No flips, just fists.

Sam Keith Classic 2016 was won by Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray and they beat Roderick Remus & The Architect in the finals. Cameron & Syd were eliminated by Greg Gauge & Bradley Blaze in the first round. Nate & Tyrone went on to beat Cameron & Syd for the MAW Tag Team the next show. I see Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray as being a Keith Lee & Shane Strickland type duo even if Nate doesn't have the athleticism of Keith. Nevertheless, Bask in his Glory~

Sam Keith Classic 2017 was won by Roderick Remus & The Bodyguard. The Bodyguard being Prometheus. Cameron teamed with recent graduate Willie Huge because Syd was busy that night and didn't participate in the tournament. Joe Sexy was in it teaming with Hal Harvard. JD Morgan teamed with The Architect and in his best and last match since the game started, lost to Bradley Blaze and the debuting Funakoshi (JD has only wrestled 9 matches since the game started). Remus actually got injured in the first match so kayfabe The Bodyguard pretty much carried Remus and him to a win over Funakoshi & Blaze, as well as a finals win over Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray.

MAW Tag Team titles which start on Syd & Cameron were held until August 2016 when Sam Keith Classic winners, Nate & Tyrone took it from them. Nate & Tyrone only had two successful defenses against Josh Jacobs & Cheetah Boy and The Masterminds (Architect & Remus). They lost the belts back to The Dynamite Express in February 2017. I wasn't sure if Nate & Tyrone were gonna stay since their contracts were expiring but the RL comparisons to Lee & Strickland helped convince me to keep them. I only have one tag team match a show so it hasn't been hard to sustain the feud between Dynamite Express & Nate/Tyrone.

MAW American title which starts on Hal Harvard was held for over a year and lost on October 2016. Hal lost the title to Greg Gauge. I kept thinking Greg was gonna leave me really quick so I kept him away from our main title, when he wouldn't leave and I caved and offered him a 10 year PPA, I gave him Hal's belt. Greg went on to win the COTT World Heavyweight and defended both against The Architect, Joel Bryant and Syd Collier (who had won RCI and beaten Greg in the finals to set this match up). When TCW & BHOTWG finally came for him and he signed on to BHOTWG, the Sam Keith Classic was moved forward. He lost the COTT World Heavyweight and MAW American titles to Syd Collier in a rematch and in the best MAW match since I started (74). If I hadn't had the titles on him, he would've won the Sam Keith Classic with Funakoshi as a farewell affair. I intend on bringing him back one day.

MAW Championship which starts on Greg was quickly lost to the returning Roderick Remus. Roderick beat Cheetah Boy and Bradley Blaze twice, holding it from March to December. I took the title off him because I didn't think I'd resign him but I realized I was being over the top with letting these contracts go and brought him back. He lost the title to Nate DeMarcus (whose own contract was gonna expire soon after) who quickly lost it back to Roderick (now a three time champion). Roderick's sole defense has been over Holmes. He's injured now and while he can work, I want him to take a break till he's healthy. The next big matches are another one with Bradley Blaze, and likely one with Funakoshi.

In other news. COTT World Tag Team belts were won by Cameron Jones & Syd Collier in October 2016 and promptly lost to Remmy Skye & Fox Mask in the 1st defense. I intend on getting Nate & Tyrone a run with the belts.

COTT World Heavyweight was won by The Architect over Hugh De Aske (who had beaten Nicola Lopez). He defended it in CZCW, OLLIE and 4C as well as in MAW against Cheetah Boy & Tyrone Gray. He lost it to Greg Gauge in a challenge for the MAW American belt after 6 defenses. Greg held it for 7 defenses and defended it in CZCW, OLLIE and 4C too. He actually never lost it. COTT stripped him of the belt but I gave him a chance to walk away with it against Syd Collier with his MAW American belt on the line as well but Syd won it. So far Syd's defended it in CZCW and NYCW.

Bradley Blaze is the most named with the least attention given here. I see the Dallas Cowboy as my face Elias even if his entertainment skills need some work. He's performed well enough to be a guy I go to whenever I'm lacking my #1 face, Greg Gauge. When a heel retiree comes in for a good win he goes over Bradley Blaze. When I need a MAW Championship challenger, its Bradley Blaze. When I need a deep tournament run, good ole' Bradley. He's currently 13-9. I think I'll have him for a long time but I'd love to see him get signed by a big company. He deserves it. He's now my #1 face with Greg Gauge gone and the most popular guy in the Mid-Atlantic with Roderick Remus (Collier just 1pt below them).

Money wise, we are down to 61K. We start at 100K. We've made a profit three times but my intake of retirees is the reason why we aren't making more. I could have just gone with a regular 1-2 weekly + the big event to get into profitable territory quicker but I liked going with monthly events. I want to transform the RCI & SKC into Round-Robin tournaments down the line and make The Battle of the Mid-Atlantic the single elimination tournament.

Future is going to see The Bodyguard continue to get built up, Funakoshi continue his road to Roderick Remus, Gargantuan arrive to murder people and probably Collier and Blaze to face off. I think one of Collier/Blaze/Remus will need to switch alignments this year to change the feud dynamics.

Other stuff: I run 6 matches a show (except for tournaments which have 7 matches). One tends to be a tag team match. I'm still Small and at 27 pop. I tend to finish 2nd in Regional Battles with PSW & NYCW. But have finished last and first periodically. Production values sink my shows. I've only upgraded one production value and its still in red. I'm not rushing though, like I said. I'm probably due to upgrade another production soon.

My goal with this game is just to go as far as I can. 5 years is my minimum.

Just wrapped year two of my game.

NOTBPW were bought out despite their endless 100 & 99 rated matches by SWF. Not a ton of insane talent is loitering unemployed. I can't hire them, and even if I could, I can't afford their demands. TCW, despite losing Jay Chord, Rocky Golden & Wolf Hawkins to their competitors, as well as just letting Bryan Vessey go, hasn't bothered replenishing their roster. But when Human Arsenal & Sammy Bach get 99s, guess you don't need to. They gave the TCW World Heavyweight belt to Scout on Jay Chord's last show, on the last day of the year.

The US National Battle scene is now SWF vs. SOTBPW. Rocky & Wolf are helping SWF battle SOTBPW but its tight. They've got Canada all to themselves though and SOTBPW have Mexico all to themselves. Surprisingly, PGHW is the only national in BHOTWG. Hope they stay alive forever.

Soul Taker won WOTY. SOTBPW COTY. Captain Wrestling II & Kerry Wayne brought TTOTY to Australia. Soul Taker got MOTY with The Crippler (who unfortunately got injured and his career may well be over, he was tearing it up in SOTBPW). Only other interesting award is Brooke Tyler taking home Young Wrestler of the Year. The women of NOTBPW were tearing it up with 90s before NOTBPW got bought.

I've had four events since Greg Gauge left / my last post. Black Canvas Grappling folded as expected so I spent a lot of money and used my SAISHO & WEXXV working agreements to loan in Bunrakuken Torii, Funakoshi, Rokuemon Matsushita, Haranobu Kobayashi & Blast Ikoma in. I intend on signing them all to PPAs when their loans end. Its hurt me financially but I love the BCG guys and they fit in with MAW.

With NOTBPW out, I want to bring in Cameron Vessey, Flash Savage & Ozzie Golden and maybe Erik Strong and Jacob Jett because of their NOTBPW history (not Jett). I also want to bring in Dean & Marv over from NYCW. Bryan Vessey is willing to join me after being let go by TCW due to an injury and not being signed by anyone. He works for NYCW at the moment. They would all be expensive and the BCG signings have emptied my pocket quite a bit (Sam Keith now works for free). I dont NEED them but I'd love to have them. Cameron Vessey & Bryan Vessey anchoring my tag team division would be lovely.

Cheetah Boy & Hal Harvard have both been let go, they're getting on in age and never really showed up. I was tempted to keep Hal Harvard but opted against it. Gargantuan arrived and he's been a slow going process.

Rokuemon & Haranobu are a heel team to spice up my two-team tag division. Funakoshi & Torii were intended to be singles wrestlers but I paired them up (they are friends) and they've just taken the MAW Tag Team belts from Cameron Jones & Syd Collier to let Syd focus on defending his two belts.

Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray took the COTT World Tag Team titles from Fox Mask & Remmy Skye and have been defending it in the COTT companies and have beaten Rokuemon & Haranobu in a title defense.

Roderick is still MAW Champion fending off challenges from Funakoshi (in our best match yet) at Where It All Begins Again. I wanted to bring in Air Attack Weasel on loan to face Remus but forgot to so went with Funakoshi. He also beat Bradley in Bradley's last opportunity. Bradley has turned heel since.

The BCG imports are amazing and Funakoshi is immediately are best worker. Bunrakuken & Haranobu are real good too but Rokuemon's held back by his stamina and Blast Ikoma has never been as good as he should be. A bad gimmick isn't helping. Roderick remains at the top of the totem pole.

Rip Chord Invitation starts off the year and I'm thinking a line-up of Roderick Remus, Funakoshi, Bunrakuken Torii, Nate DeMarcus, Syd Collier, Haranobu Kobayashi, Bradley Blaze and Tyrone Gray/Cameron Jones. Gargantuan/Bodyguard/Rokuemon don't have the stamina for this sort of affair and I don't want to piss off a Bryan Vessey/Cameron Vessey or whoever on a one night appearance putting someone over.

We're at 28 pop and 23 importance in Mid-Atlantic so we're closing in on Regional. After that the goal will be to get 42 pop across Mid-Atlantic/New England/Tri-State for that TV money.

<p>MAW year three is done (2018) and it's definitely been the best year for me despite the finances at an all time low (juggling around 20K now). </p><p> </p><p>

Steve DeColt retired along with a lot of NOTBPW alumni. 4C has benefited first signing Ricky DeColt then Sean McFly when DeColt got injured for a year. Duane Stone, Johnny Bloodstone and Mighty Cavanagh among others are jobless. PGHW has started bringing in a few guys like John Maverick, Julian Watson, Cameron Vessey and Shooter on loans. </p><p> </p><p>

Wolf Hawkins became a movie star and the battle between SWF and SOTBPW is pretty tight. Crippler, Law & Remo have been tremendous for SOTBPW. TCW keeps losing all their top stars. Their top five are Sammy Bach, Danny Fonzarelli, Freddy Huggins, Mighty Mo and Marc Speed. Scout is their champion. Eric Eisen is SWF's champion after Wolf Hawkins vacated the belt to go do a movie. USPW is too rich to die. 21CW is surviving, PGHW is doing amazing at National. WLW have surpassed BHOTWG and even swiped some of their stars. Hoping BHOTWG die because they have 90 talent and use 1/10th of them. They are terribly done in this game and desperately need to be reworked. RAW is doing amazing with a ton of great matches. 5SSW keep dancing between regional and cult and that's about it. </p><p> </p><p>

... As I was writing this, Marc Speed won the World title from Scout at Psycho Circus. </p><p> </p><p>

SOTBPW World Champion Rick Law won Wrestler of the Year. SOTBPW won COTY again. Swoop & Luke Steele won tag team of the year. Champagne Lover vs. Capitao Brasil Jr. got MOTY. Bakin Sakamoto of WLW got YWTOY. Soul Taker took home VOTY. Sara Marie York got FWOTY. USPW somehow got most improved. Jacob Jett, the NOTBPW remnant got Indy. </p><p> </p><p>

As for the MAW year. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MAW Championship</strong> was held by Roderick Remus up until August 2018. That's a total 17 months as champion. He defended it against Bunrakuken Torii, Tanyu Toshusai, Cameron Jones & Nate DeMarcus this year. He finally lost it at the Battle of the Mid-Atlantic to Syd Collier in a 74 rated match. I thought it was finally time to give Syd the strap because he's been amazing for us. I took of face/heel because I felt it limited my match-ups too much and don't really enjoy booking around it. Syd defended it against Roderick Remus at Where It All Begins Again 13 in our best homegrown match yet (80). So that was great. He finished the year beating Dynamite Express partner Cameron Jones and now looks to try and get his second Rip Chord Invitational trophy. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MAW American</strong> was held by Syd Collier since July 2017. He almost held it for a year but lost it at 11 months. Defended it against Nate DeMarcus, Bobby Benjamin and Tanyu Toshusai before losing it to Bunrakuken Torii. Torii has held it and still holds it since, beating away Syd, Nate, Tanyu, The Architect and American Elemental II. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MAW Tag Team</strong> was held by Funakoshi & Bunrakuken Torii to end 2017 and promptly vacated. Funakoshi was signed away by WLW and due to scheduling conflicts, Funakoshi couldn't come back to lose the belt. I decided not to move forward my event to compensate for WLW schedule. Gargantuan & The Bodyguard defeated Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray to win the belts. The pairing was formed by Roderick Remus. They've gone on to hold the belts since and have beaten Rokuemon Matsushita & Haranobu Kobayashi, Bunrakuken Torii & Tanyu Toshusai, The Dynamite Express, American Elemental II & Bobby Benjamin as well as Bobby Benjamin & Roderick Remus to keep the belts so far. I envision it being a lengthy reign. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Rip Chord Invitational</strong> was originally meant to be won by Funakoshi who would go on to challenge and beat Roderick Remus for the MAW Championship but Funakoshi was signed shortly before the event to WLW. Instead, the finals was comprised of Bunrakuken Torii, Roderick Remus & Nate DeMarcus (Roderick & Nate drew beforehand). Roderick Remus managed to win the tournament finally. He became the 4th (Syd the 5th) man to win both the RCI and the Sam Keith Classic.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sam Keith Classic</strong> was won by Syd Collier & Cameron Jones with Syd beating Nate/Tyrone in the finals in a renewal of their rivalry. The Bodyguard & Roderick Remus did not defend their trophy, instead The Bodyguard teamed with tag partner Gargantuan & Roderick Remus screwed Bobby Benjamin claiming the twin towers would win the trophy for them. But they were defeated by the Dynamite Express. Long overdue for Dynamite Express who are easily the greatest tag team in MAW history. </p><p> </p><p>

Signings & departures wise. While I enjoyed Haranobu Kobayashi & Rokuemon Matsushita, I allowed them to leave to make room for other names I was interested in. They're available in the US now and I'm open to bringing them back down the line. The big arrivals are Tanyu Toshusai who I brought in from SAISHO knowing they were dying and then signed on a permanent PPA contract. He's been great in the midcard and deserves a push for sure. I need to find a better render for him though because his default is terrible. American Elemental II joined the roster as well, he's insane for being a rookie when I signed him. He's been putting people over mostly. But he's got a future with MAW if he wants it. </p><p> </p><p>

The big two signings are Scythe whom SWF let go. I've brought him, made him figurehead instantly and given him an Avenging Angel gimmick. He's won 9 straight matches and is going through the entire roster to the top. I want him to have a big match with Gargantuan (Gargantuan has lost but never been pinned). It won't grade amazing since its Gargantuan but it would be a great match for fans I think. I didn't have him compete in the Sam Keith Classic because I wanted Dynamite Express to win and didn't want him to lose even if not getting pinned.</p><p> </p><p>

The other one that came later is Spencer Spade whom SWF also let go. He's got 100 SQ and probably makes for a better figurehead but I didn't think SWF would let him go. I've been less "PROTECT HIM!" with his booking. He challenged COTT World Heavyweight Champion Sean McFly and they had an insane 91 rated match for our small company. McFly won. He's not even in time decline. 4C and the COTT are lucky to have him.</p><p> </p><p>

We are down to 21K and not really making money. But we're still growing so it's alright. I spent quite a bit to get a lot of Japanese talents into the US and I don't regret that. I want to bring them back in down the line. Otherwise, it's RCI time and the big question is if I give it to either Scythe or Spencer Spade.</p>

<p><strong>Year Four:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>4C</strong> has to be my favorite company right now. Too Hot quit as booker at some point and Steve DeColt now has the books. They've signed Jack DeColt to join Ricky DeColt, and brought in David Stone and they still have Sean McFly. I wish they'd sign up Duane Stone & Johnny Bloodstone as well. Sadly, Ricky DeColt and Christian Price both left and headed off for USPW at the end of the year. Still a great company though. </p><p> </p><p>

I won't linger too much on the big company switches, I don't remember many off the top of my head but TCW keeps losing guys and signing pretty much no one. Champagne Lover got a scandal which pretty much screwed SOTBPW in the never ending battle with SWF. <strong>The Crippler</strong> became the most popular man in the US & Mexico after winning the SOTBPW World Championship from Rick Law. I'm happy for him. He deserves it. </p><p> </p><p>

Marc DuBois became a TCW World Heavyweight Champion at some point.</p><p> </p><p>

WLW are National and doing battle with PGHW. PGHW is better and has more star power but WLW have the money. They also brought in Shooter Sean Deeley and one of my own guys, Bunrakuken Torii.</p><p> </p><p>

Award season wise: Axxis Jr. stole WOTY from Rick Law, and took home Tag Team of the Year with The Crippler! He also got MOTY with Remo. Crippler got VOTY. Tiger Prince got ROTY. Alicia Strong got FWOTY. Jacob Jett retained Indy of the Year. SOTBPW took most of the big awards. Mid-Atlantic Wrestling got <strong>Most Improved Company of the Year.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

We also finally made it to Regional. It took us 43 shows. Sam Keith Classic did it. Despite that, the end of the year was a bit of a cluster****.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MAW Championship</strong>: Syd Collier was champion to end the year but did not have a single successful title defense. He faced Spencer Spade who had beaten him in the Rip Chord Invitational but Roderick Remus made the match end in a DQ. Sadly, Syd & Spencer have bad chem as well. A triple threat was made after Spencer & Roderick drew (Spencer didn't like having to draw with Roderick), and Spencer managed to beat Roderick & Syd to win the belt. Spencer was meant to have a long reign probably to be ended by no one other than Scythe. He beat Nate, Roderick, the returning Ozzie Golden, and then was set to defend against PSW Champion, Steven Parker at Where It All Begins Again, our big event. </p><p> </p><p>

Welp. </p><p> </p><p>

SWF come calling and Spencer Spade's last date to work for us is the day right before our big event. I don't think it'd be realistic of us to screw our fans and move the show one day forward to allow the title to be taken off Spade (I've done this once for Gauge and that's all), so Spade leaves and we've lost our main event. Steven Parker ends up facing Erik Strong (who had returned recently). Originally Erik was meant to win but Steven wouldn't let Erik go over. Steven was only here on a one-appearance contract. Still, I say **** it and change all my booking plans. Steven wins thanks to the help of Roderick, Ozzie & Flash. Ozzie & Flash have quickly turned on Erik who was supposed to lead a faction of MAW Originals. Now the faction is comprised of Steven, Roderick, Ozzie & Flash. Still, the game auto vacates the belt since Steven is gone. I work it as Sam Keith saying Steven wasnt an official MAW wrestler. He wasn't allowed to hold the belt. </p><p> </p><p>

Sam Keith makes a three way between all former MAW Champions on the roster: Roderick Remus, Syd Collier & Nate DeMarcus. Erik Strong is sadly on a tour with PGHW after they neglected him for 2 years. Tanyu Toshusai agrees to forfeit his MAW American title to participate. Tanyu wins (Roderick wasn't happy but Tanyu intimidated him into letting it happen). Last show of the year, Night of Champions, Sam Keith has a guest challenger for Tanyu - its Steven Parker who is now an official MAW wrestler, and Parker ends Tanyu's reign at one month to become a 3X MAW Champion, ending the year standing tall with Roderick, Ozzie & Flash. Scythe comes out with the COTT World Heavyweight he won early in the day as the biggest opposition to their faction.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MAW American:</strong> Bunrakuken Torii lost the belt in his first defense of the year to good friend Tanyu Toshusai and was meant to get into the MAW Championship scene but... was signed by WLW. He had a farewell match with Johnny Bloodstone in the main event of Super Showdown and hugged it out with Tanyu. Bye Torii. Tanyu went on to defend against Cameron Jones, Miller Fforde, The Architect, and Roderick Remus. He was also supposed to defend against Erik Strong but Strong refused to put him over so I moved Strong to the MAW Championship match against Parker and had Tanyu defend against American Elemental II and 4C Champion, David Stone. He vacated the belt at the end of the year to challenge for the MAW Championship. Johnny Bloodstone defeated American Elemental II to win the vacated title.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MAW Tag Team:</strong> Despite holding the belts for 18 months, the Twin Towers, Gargantuan and The Bodyguard (Prometheus) did not defend it much. They beat Keith Vegas and Herbert Deleon (new gen), Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray, Roderick Remus & Bradley Blaze, and then lost the title in a fatal four way tag team match feature Nate/Tyrone & Bradley/Herbert as well as the Canadian Blondes. The Canadian Blondes won it to become 3X tag team champions and beat the Twin Towers in their rematch. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>COTT World Heavyweight:</strong> Sean McFly kept it for most of the year before losing it to Ozzie Golden at a 4C event. We wanted Ozzie to face Spencer Spade in a Champion vs. Champion match but Ozzie lost the title to Christian Price at another 4C event. Christian Price defended it at Where It All Begins Again against Roderick Remus and lost it. Price wasn't in the best shape to begin with so the match wasn't great. He headed off to USPW shortly after. Remus managed one defense before losing it to Scythe to end the year. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>COTT World Tag Team:</strong> Storm Spillane & Marvel Malloy, the only two time champions, lost it to Jack & Ricky DeColt in August after 6 defenses. Jack & Ricky managed no successful defenses, losing it to Sean McFly & Johnny Bloodstone at Where It All Begins Again in a match that probably should've happened on Canadian soil. It also led me to the cool discovery that you can have co-champions from different companies. I wasn't sure it would work and thought they might vacate it since McFly works for 4C and Bloodstone for MAW but they didn't. I made the decision to take it off DeColts because McFly has huge pop in US and probably wouldn't accept losing to the DeColts who don't have much. Proved to be the smart decision because like Price, Ricky signed to USPW. McFly & Bloodstone had an awesome match against Dynamite Express to end the year.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Rip Chord Invitational:</strong> If Scythe participated in this one, he was 100% winning, and he did participate in it. The participants were Scythe, Remus, Spade, Collier, Torii, Elemental II, DeMarcus & Toshusai. Scythe beat Remus in their first ever match. Spade beat MAW Champion Collier to set up their singles. Torii beat Elemental II, Toshusai beat DeMarcus. Scythe beat Spencer Spade to set up a future match between them where Scythe would take the MAW Championship and they'd be fresh for what I was hoping would be our greatest match ever. Spade left before it could happen. Torii beat Toshusai. Scythe beat Torii in a tremendous main event that would've been better if they weren't both tired. This marked the second time Torii fell short in the finals. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sam Keith Classic:</strong> featured the teams of Scythe & Johnny Bloodstone as Bloody Scythe, Twin Towers (Gargantuan & The Bodyguard), Spade & Remus, Toshusai & Elemental II, Dynamite Express, Blaze & Deleon, Nate & Tyrone, Bobby & The Architect. Blaze/Deleon & Bobby/Architect was me fishing for chemistry. Blaze & Deleon have excellent chem and now team. For Dynamite Express & Nate/Tyrone, as well as Bodyguard and Remus in their respective teams, they had a chance to make history and become the first ever two time winners. For Scythe, it marked an opportunity to become the first man to win Rip Chord Invitational and Sam Keith Classic in the same year. </p><p> </p><p>

The first match between Bloody Scythe & Twin Towers was significant because Scythe had never lost and Gargantuan had never been pinned, only losing once and that was at the previous year's Sam Keith Classic when Dynamite Express got The Bodyguard pinned. They lost again and again The Bodyguard was pinned. Johnny Bloodstone would go on to lose to Gargantuan and finally Scythe's 22-0-0 and Gargantuan's 19-0-2 (unpinned) streak would meet. Scythe won and Gargantuan was finally pinned in a surprising 80 rated match which was much better than I expected and made me happy. Gargantuan was always meant to go undefeated which meant protecting him even if he wasn't the best in a workrate company. When Scythe arrived I KNEW Gargantuan's streak could only be broken by Scythe.</p><p> </p><p>

Anyways.</p><p> </p><p>

Bloody Scythe met Spade & Remus in what was up to that point our second greatest match ever after Spade/McFly's 91. Bloody Scythe won. The other huge match was Nate/Tyrone vs. Dynamite Express, they were 2-2 in their lengthy rivalry (shocking that the only two legit tag teams from the start of the game and most of this file have only faced 5 times in 4 years), and they were trying to get the honor of being the only 2X SKC winners for themselves. Dynamite Express won. Bloody Scythe managed to defeat Dynamite Express in the finals to make history. Scythe for the record, is currently 25-0-0. </p><p> </p><p>

Other cool stuff: Johnny Bloodstone was brought in because we were turning a profit and I felt bad, he's not even in Time Decline and his modest pop means he won't rage about losing. He's been a great member of the roster and is currently the COTT World Tag Team and MAW American champion. </p><p> </p><p>

Bryan Vessey, Duane Stone, David Stone, Jack DeColt, Ricky DeColt, PRIDE Koiso all appeared at Where It All Begins Again, making their debuts there. Sadly, Vessey/Stone/Koiso were relegated to pre-show battle royal that Vessey won because I forgot to expand the length of my show. David Stone definitely has a future with us. George Wolfe made his return. He was cut year one because of our budget and I regret it, he hasn't found a job since but he's tremendous underappreciated talent. Brought him back.</p><p> </p><p>

So, we are now officially regional. We have gotten all our production up to yellow. That's phase one completed. Phase two is to expand our schedule. It'll look like this, bolded are the new events.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><ol style="list-style-type:decimal;"><li>MAW Rip Chord Invitational<br /></li><li><strong>MAW Survival of the Fittest (6 Way Elimination, #1 Contender's)</strong><br /></li><li>MAW Wrestling Classic<br /></li><li>MAW Super Showdown<br /></li><li><strong>MAW Road to the Gauntlet (Five Gauntlet matches)</strong><br /></li><li>MAW Americana<br /></li><li><strong>MAW Cage Night (All Cages)</strong><br /></li><li><strong>MAW Gold Rush (some sort of MITB)</strong><br /></li><li>MAW Old School Rules<br /></li><li><strong>MAW Ultimate Endurance (one hour Iron Man match)</strong><br /></li><li>MAW Fan Festival<br /></li><li><strong>MAW Death's Chamber (some sort of Elimination Chamber)</strong><br /></li><li>MAW Sam Keith Classic<br /></li><li>MAW The Battle of the Mid-Atlantic<br /></li><li><strong>MAW The War Games (... War Games)</strong><br /></li><li>MAW The Clash<br /></li><li><strong>MAW The Battle Royal (some measure of Aztec Warfare or Royal Rumble)</strong><br /></li><li><strong>MAW Penultimate Showdown</strong><br /></li><li>MAW Where It All Begins Again<br /></li><li>MAW The Proving Grounds<br /></li><li>MAW The Night of Champions<br /></li></ol><p></p><p> </p><p>

We will also be making The Night of Champions are big event of the year and Where It All Begins Again won't be as marketed. I just think the Night of Champions has a better ring to it. </p><p> </p><p>

That's phase two.</p><p> </p><p>

Phase three will be going with our permanent full-time schedule. 86 events across the year. I don't really intend on going further than 100 but I like 86. And feel like adding anything more would be forced. I don't see us ever doing a regular television show but we'll have select events made for commercial TV and select events made for PPV. For this year, we're going to aim for the East Coast Today deal. Which will mean getting 42 pop in Mid-Atlantic, New England & South East. Tri-State would be easier but NYCW is there and I don't want to leave COTT. After that it'll be Los Deporte Hoy (Mid South/South West/Puerto Rico) and finally two more regions so we can get on MySelect USA. I imagine we'll host our first shows outside Mid-Atlantic by the end of the year. </p><p> </p><p>

I'm also focusing on only hiring guys that are unemployed because there is way too much wasted talent sadly. I'm trying to stick to 35 or under as I feel is the MAW spirit but I've made some exceptions for guys like Bloodstone. </p><p> </p><p>

Kayfabe. Scythe goes to war with the MAW Originals. And we see who is stolen next (I'm betting Tanyu Toshusai finally gets picked up by one of the big three Japanese companies instead of loitering in WEXXV, also idk how Scythe hasn't left yet).</p>

<p>I think Mid Atlantic Wrestling is the toughest American company to book long term. I think they are designed to be tough. They have limited finances. The old school nature of their product means gains, both financial and popularity, are slow. I've played them in every iteration of TEW -- and I think I understand them pretty well and here's what I've learned, especially in the '16 game.</p><p> </p><p>

They are rebuilding. In previous games, they were stacked with the best young talent in America. They had Vessey, Valentine, Findlay, etc... They were loaded at the top -- but in 16 they've been pillaged. They're left with some good young guys, but a lot of inexperienced guys who are still developing.</p><p> </p><p>

But it's designed to be that way. They are, after all, designed to be a small, local company that is just doing its best to stay around and keep turning out talent into the wrestling world.</p><p> </p><p>

My tips for booking them (if you want them) are as follows.</p><p> </p><p>

1. Keep it simple. Their show lengths aren't super long to begin with, so embrace that. Don't use your whole roster every show. Focus on having matches that are longer in length. With the exception of my current '05 MAW diary, I try to have five matches a card for MAW. I try to use around 12 guys a show -- sometimes 14 if I have two tag matches as opposed to one.</p><p> </p><p>

2. Remember the mission. MAW is designed to be a place for young wrestlers to get experience. Hire young, inexperienced, but inexpensive talent. Try to keep most guys at less that $600 an appearance. If you can do that, you'll find it's easier to make money.</p><p> </p><p>

3. Don't get attached to anyone. You'll probably lose your best talent. You're supposed to. Just keep replacing them as you do.</p><p> </p><p>

4. Use your students. As guys graduate, give them jobs and let them take the place of guys who have been there awhile but are stagnant -- particularly the middle of the card. They're cheaper than hiring outside talent and keep refreshing talent.</p><p> </p><p>

5. As long as you're putting on good shows and not spending a ton, you're going to be fine. Use the first couple of months to establish a baseline for how much things cost/how much money you bring in a show, and adjust accordingly.</p>

Sadly, I lost a bit of motivation around then, it was May 2020. Stick to that monthly schedule, do not sign in excess (and honestly, you totally have some leeway in this regard if the industry/economy is good because I brought in a few name retirees and also loaned in from Japan to satiate my less wise desires), don't bother raising your production values immediately, and 6 matches is a really solid card-size that I think is realistic and affordable (5 is fine too but I almost feel like I short change a crowd with less than 6). One of them can be a tag as you said and that puts you right around 12-14 guys wrestling in a show. </p><p> </p><p> Definitely don't forget to turn regens on or else your school is a waste. </p><p> </p><p> Probably best to slowly upgrade your production values instead of spending it on retiring men and foreign goodies like I did. My first year was all D- & D (even an E+) and by 2020 I was averaging B, so take your time, don't rush, enjoy the journey and it'll be a fun game. As long as you are cautious I don't think there's anything to worry about. From the starting roster I think I still had Bradley Blaze, Cameron Jones, George Wolfe (recently returned), Miller Fforde, Nate DeMarcus, Roderick Remus, Tyrone Gray, Syd Collier & The Architect. Quite a bit of gradutes, ex-MAW guys, and retirees. Only significant signees other than my write-offs from those categories are Scythe <3, Gargantuan <3, Prometheus <3, and American Elemental II (he's fine).</p><p> </p><p> I actually do enjoy getting attached to guys. It sucks losing people but it's awesome seeing them go on to have success elsewhere... unless its BHOTWG where they never ever wrestle again.</p>

<p>Jon,</p><p> </p><p>

I was hoping you'd hit year five! Do you remember who you ended with your champions?</p><p> </p><p>

And I wasn't trying to say don't get attached to guys as in don't fall in love -- because to me that's the fun of the game is falling in love with characters/guys. I meant it so much as in the don't get attached because guys could leave at any given time, because when you can't offer written deals you are always subject to the dreaded poaching (as I just experienced in my diary, but that's a few months out for any of the readers).</p>

Scythe finally won the MAW Championship. It was time to pull the trigger and honestly, I wasn't totally sure when a bigger american company would come calling. He defeated Steven Parker in the highest rated MAW match yet (93) at MAW Wrestling Classic. Scythe saw his first non-victory ever at MAW The Gauntlet when Parker pushed him to a time limit draw in the 4th match of the night. He was set to defend against Tanyu Toshusai who lost in the Gauntlet because he was too merciful, arguably.</p><p> </p><p> The Dynamite Express started their 5th MAW Tag Team Championship reign by taking the belt from The Canadian Blondes and were set for a title defense against The New Wave (short-term contract). It's their 10 year anniversary as a tag team. </p><p> </p><p> Scythe became the second ever Rip Chord Invitational winner having defeated then-MAW Champion, Steven Parker in the finals, despite a semi-finals triple threat match against Flash Savage & Ozzie Golden who had intentionally drawn in the first round. </p><p> </p><p> There was also the first ever Survival of the Fittest match which... Scythe won again over Tanyu, Syd, American Elemental II, Roderick Remus & Johnny Bloodstone. </p><p> </p><p> Johnny Bloodstone lost the MAW American title to Erik Strong, and Strong lost it a month later to American Elemental II. Strong signed on a written to BHOTWG and had a very poor run with us. American Elemental II continues to be a gem for MAW. Future MAW Champion if he sticks around.</p><p> </p><p> Scythe remains COTT World Heavyweight as he was to end 2019. He defends it at the same time as the MAW title and has defended it in 4C and CZCW. The defense against Jet Stream (Thrill Seeker) in 4C was particularly great. Scythe remains the biggest overperformer I've ever had in TEW. He's capped in a way that feels like he should not be doing as well as he is. I love him, and he joins Funakoshi, Gargantuan, Prometheus and Swoop as my Fave Five CVerse characters.</p><p> </p><p> Johnny Bloodstone and Sean McFly are still COTT World Tag Team Champions despite being in different companies. They've beaten The New Wave, The Dynamite Express and an OLLIE team in a trio of great matches.</p><p> </p><p> The big question was still who would end Scythe's 37-1-0 undefeated streak. I'm really hoping the game doesn't force my hand and sign him away but you never know and Im too far away from Cult to count on that to save me. I will need to pull the trigger.</p>

<p>I'm about to start my first long term (hopefully) c-verse game after playing mostly RW mods and Im pretty much set on playing as MAW. </p><p> </p><p>

One thing I've always struggled with when booking companies that only have one show per month is how to make them feel like there is a story arc between shows rather than just a collection of individual events.</p><p> </p><p>

Reading through this thread there are plenty of people that seem to have managed this so any advice on how you book shows to achieve this would be greatly appreciated</p>

Something that I have done is try to have every feud run for three shows. Either you start the feud via a match or an angle during the first show. Have a faulty ending of a match on the second show. Then have the final match on the third show.</p>

I think it's easier to come up with storylines when you're thinking it more of an individual level and their individual arc: A guy's rise to the main event, a monster's win streak, a man's need to find a mean streak after his reign ended, a team coming together and having to figure it out, ex-tag wrestler trying to make it as a singles wrestler, etc. So while on the surface it starts to feel like "a collection of individual events", the wrestlers themselves have storylines and they're moving forward and the great part comes when those storylines clash. I had things like Scythe's monster streak vs. Gargantuan/Bodyguard's monster streak, and thereafter Scythe's monster streak vs. the MAW Originals collective who were in the midst of taking over MAW.</p>

<p>Another question I have for MAW is that the product says the aerial and hardcore skills are less effective. How much impact should that have on who I decide to push?</p><p> </p><p>

Does it only impact those that are close to each other? So should only be taken into consideration if I have two wrestlers with the same in ring skills but one is a brawler and the other is a cruiserweight?</p><p> </p><p>

Or is it a bigger penalty than that? So I should push a brawler that has lower in ring skills over a cruiserweight?</p>

Tyrone Gray is certainly not as good as DeMarcus to start but he can definitely become a solid hand, and there's no reason to job him out. I enjoyed the DeMarcus & Gray pairing and have kept them together for over four years, but DeMarcus has certainly found more singles success than Gray over that period. </p><p> </p><p> Gray's record for me was 25-0-22, while DeMarcus was 31-1-25. The fact that Gray was a very successful tag wrestler made it so that his losses as a singles wrestler felt more credible for his opponents, imo. </p><p> </p><p> Anyways, feel it out, book a few shows, judge for yourself whether you want to keep Gray & DeMarcus as a team or not. You'll get in a rhythm and figure out who you should be pushing or not.</p>
