He swiped the pass card and the door opened with a joyful bleep. The room itself was nothing special, but at least they had given him one with a pretty big bed. He wasn't called "Bulldozer" for nothing; he needed a large mattress mounted on a sturdy bed frame that could withstand his weight. Obviously, whoever had been making arrangements for the tour was paying attention.

He put down his suitcase and began unpacking. That was pretty much the only thing he had to worry about when working Japan, his suitcase plus transport to and from the airport. Black Canvas would arrange the buses and hotels, all they wanted him to focus on was the wrestling. They would drive wrestlers to a hotel, pick them up for the show, drive them to the arena, take them back to the hotel afterwards and then drive them to the next location the morning after. Back in the States, he'd have to bother about renting his own car or sharing a car with some fellow worker. He'd have to drive from place to place. Book his own flights and hotels. Back there, he was an independent contractor. In Japan, he was made to feel like a member of the family. After all, he spent so much time with his co-workers on the bus, the arena and around the hotel, they were practically like family. And like all families, they had their problems, secrets and black sheep.

The buzz of his cell phone vibrated across the mattress, snapping him out of his daydreaming. Now that was a contact he hadn't seen pop up in quite some time. "Konichiwa their, neighbor" he said in his best impersonation of a southern drawl. He never could resist making fun of Findlay's heavy accent.

hpQJWk2.jpg

"Brandon, brother... been a while" he heard Findlay's voice on the other end of the line. "Thought I'd check up on you, heard you won the darn Grand Prix? That's big news, buddy."

Smith relaxed and let his weight carry him to a backwards fall, dropping on the mattress to stare at the ceiling. He was lying on the bed and talking on the phone to a friend as if he was a teenager again. "Thanks man. Yeah, they're pretty fond of me, it seems."

"Fond of you?" Findlay mused. "Don't give me that Brandon, BCG may be small but Maeda's always gonna be a legend in Japan. They didn't push you to win his GP because they like your chubby face. I looked up some of your recent matches too, you've been killing it, brother."

"Well, I guess I got you to thank for, in a way" he teased him back. "They made me the top gaijin monster after you left. Teamed me up with Harker too so they could keep the hype going after AmDem won TagMania."

"Aw hell Brands, has it been a year already? Feels like a lifetime ago." Findlay paused for a moment as the realization set in for both men.

"Yeah, we had a run with the tag titles, almost won TagMania this year too. How's Burning Hammer been treating you?"

"Like absolute sh*t". Findlay's voice had nothing humorous about it. For some reason, Smith sat back up on his hotel bed. "Only got a win against some jobber last September. Been only in multi man matches since, all of them losses. Then this month they gave me my second ever win at Sword of Glory. Against the same jobber. In a goddamn pre-show match."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, Big F..."

It was a lie and they both knew it. Findlay had made his choice and now he was paying the price for it. He was big and strong, sure, but was that enough to rub elbows with the best of them? It's not every day some Marat Khoklov shows up and gets to wrestle Kikkawa. Smith didn't blame him for it though. He got a steady pay and a chance to work for one of the biggest promotions in the world. It's just not how he'd do it. He'd seen it happen before in the States, some promising prospect getting signed by SWF or USPW only to be used once or twice, then dumped like trash. For some reason, people still fell for it though. The promise of money, the TV exposure, the escape from the indies... whatever each person told themselves to take the bait.

"Nah, don't be" Findlay finally spoke. "I made my own bed, now I get to sleep in it. Wish things had gone better. Wish I could have called you to tell you I can land you a deal too with the Hammer. Nevermind. I just wanted to congratulate you, man. Guessing they'll put the gold on you till Funakoshi heals up. You deserve it."

Smith tried to hold back from saying anything before thinking it through first. How he missed their days together, in MAW and then Japan. How he could maybe talk Maeda and Yoshizawa into bringing him back once his contract came up. "You know I can't comment on the outcome of the match, Finn" he ended up saying, trying to sound as funny as he could. "But thanks. Funakoshi is a damn machine and win or lose, we're gonna bring the house down."

"Yeah, go slay, Brandon. Hope you guys get TV coverage soon, because my contract won't allow me to show up and see you live. I'm sure it'll be one hell of a match. Good luck."

They said goodbye and hung up. Now he was sure. He was sticking with Maeda's part of the fence.

Based off the recent narrative with him and Findlay, I think that maybe Bulldozer gets the strap here to cement him as the gaijin BCG -- a loyal foreigner who fits everything BCG is supposed to be.

If I had one request, could you mark who the champions are in this like you do with Piledriver? While I am up to speed, sometimes it helps.

Done. I've had people tell me they also get confused with who's in which faction, which led me to start writing that info next to the name for matchups. I have some changes planned for after the Survivor tour and that might also translate to my presentation here. This has probably been my longest running and perhaps most successful dynasty so a visual upgrade feels appropriate. If I can find a few decent logos for the groups (and some time to do the editing) I might start adding small icons on the edge of the portraits to indicate faction affiliation, titles held etc.

Test of Champions

Friday, W4 of May 2017

Gifu Arena, Chubu

Attendance: 2.000 (sold out)

In a pre-show bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Shuzo Utagawa (Seven Samurai) defeated Eikichi Itou (Coast to Coast) in 10:28 by submission with a Sleeper Hold.

Rating: D

Double K (Puroresu-gun) vs Muscle Blasters (Puroresu-gun) vs Shiga & Miyake (Seven Samurai) vs Threepwood & Goto

For Black Canvas Grappling, Spring is tournament season. Starting from March with TagMania and moving on to the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix in April, the two events set up two of the title matches for Test of Champions in May. Highlighting this three month build up, the show kicks off referencing TagMania as all of BCG's teams not booked to wrestle later on tonight square off in an elimination match. MUSCLE Serizawa is the first one to get pinned by big man Goto, a situation Kiyotaka takes advantage of to lock in the Kimura on the former sumo wrestler for a tap out. Double K against Shiga & Miyake for the final and with the veteran Shiga struggling to keep up with the youngsters, Miyake is left to fend off his two opponents for the most part, ultimately taking the pin himself.

In a decent match, Double K defeated Muscle Blasters, Shiga & Miyake and Threepwood & Goto in 10:15; the order of elimination was Muscle Blasters first, then Threepwood & Goto, and finally Shiga & Miyake.

World Tag Team titles match

Partnership of Pain © (Coast to Coast) vs Team Taku (Seven Samurai)

Almost a year in the making, this title match sees the two teams in reversed roles. Back in August 2016, it was Team Taku who walked in as champions at The Lion Rises to face challengers Matsushita and Brody. This time it's the Partnership of Pain defending the gold against the winners of TagMania 4 and their first clash since back then. All four men involved are very different from what they were back then though and of those, Toshinobu Taku is the only one looking worse as age has been undermining his skills all this while. Despite a heroic attempt and stellar performance from young Yoshinaka Taku, his father eventually falls victim to a One-Handedd Choke Slam from Matsushita, who scores the cover in dominant fashion for the undisputed champions of the tag team division.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Partnership Of Pain defeated Team Taku in 15:50 when Rokuemon Matsushita defeated Toshinobu Taku by pinfall with an One-Handed Choke Slam. Partnership Of Pain make defence number 4 of their BCG World Tag Team titles.

Pavel Vanzycha (No affiliation) vs Kyuichi Matsumoto (No affiliation)

Vanzycha and Matsumoto are the only members of the roster not affiliated with any faction so their clash has little heat as far as that goes. The match itself is decent, if unspectacular and ends at just over ten minutes when the obviously better Vanzycha locks in the Cross Armlock to score a well deserved submission victory.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Pavel Vanzycha defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto in 10:07 by submission with a Cross Armlock.

Rob Reynolds (Rogue Troopers) vs Yuki Horigoshi (Puroresu-gun)

Reynolds and Horigoshi revisit their B block match during the final round of this year's Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix and although solid, it's not that different than the last time, with Reynolds once again defeating "100% Machine" thanks to his Real Deal Rocker.

In a decent match, Rob Reynolds defeated Yuki Horigoshi in 13:34 by pinfall with a Real Deal Rocker.

Storm Spillane (Rogue Troopers) vs Animal Harker (Coast to Coast)

Unlike the previous match, these two opponents never met during the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix as they were in different blocks. Harker's wild brawling makes for an interesting contrast to Spillane's precise striking and technical prowess, with fans slowly getting drawn in to chant for either of the two gaijin. The bout goes past the fifteen minute mark with no man looking as if they have any advantage, until a lucky moment allows Spillane to lock in the Kneeling Boston Crab.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Storm Spillane defeated Animal Harker in 16:04 by submission with a Kneeling Boston Crab.

Challengers Series title match

Bunrakuken Torii © (Puroresu-gun) vs Sterling Whitlock (Rogue Troopers)

First of the night's singles title matches and this one has more than just gold on the line as the leader of Puroresu-gun comes face to face with the man who betrayed the faction, stole its scoreboard-earned title shot and led the departure that resulted in the formation of Rogue Troopers. Things here are pretty personal and it shows, two men recklessly trading forearms as soon as the opening bell rings. Stiff shots and crunching suplexes abound in this strong style clash that's as physical as they come, with the occasional submission hold thrown in to provide a breather for both the wrestlers and the audience. The tide of battle shifts constantly and Whitlock shows he can go with the best of them, but once Torii gets his groove on, the onslaught of machine gun chops and forearms are too much for the challenger to handle and set him up for the Spinning Forearm Smash that leads to the pin, marking Torii's seventh successful defense of the title.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Sterling Whitlock in 16:17 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash. Bunrakuken Torii makes defence number 7 of his BCG Challengers Series title.

World title match

Funakoshi © (Seven Samurai) vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith (Coast to Coast)

As hinted during the press conference, the story here is Smith going after Funakoshi's injured back in order to do maximum damage and set him up for his Backdrop Driver finisher. Besides his size, power and menacing aura, Smith is also the 2017 Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix winner, making him a legitimate threat for the man who's been carrying the main title for exactly one year now. On the opposite side of that coin, the setup makes for a dramatic uphill battle for the defending champion, one that has fans rooting for him against the gaijin monster heel. For all his indomitable warrior spirit, Funakoshi is fighting against both Smith and his own limitations, his back giving way on several crucial moments to halt his momentum and allow Smith to get back on the offensive. Tension builds and despite barely avoiding a few attempts at the Backdrop Driver, Funakoshi can't possibly hope to lift up Smith and hit his own Butterfly Backbreaker finisher. It feels as though a title change is at hand, as if it is only a matter of time, until Funakoshi achieves the impossible and somehow manages to reverse another attempt at the Backdrop Driver into a roll up, barely holding down Smith long enough for the count.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Funakoshi defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith in 20:56 by pinfall with a fast roll up. Funakoshi makes defence number 7 of his BCG World title.

In a cunning cash-in of their victory on the Test of Champions tour, the group announced they have come to an understanding with both Yoshifusa Maeda and Kazu Yoshizawa for Smith and reigning BCG World Tag Team champions the Partnership of Pain to take the final three entrance slots at June's Survivor battle royal. This arrangement is a direct result of all champions but the BCG National title holder Yoshinaka Taku being included in the rumble, which in turn prevents any title matches beyond the one headlining the show from taking place. Still, given that the winner of the rumble goes on to face the BCG World champion at The Lion's Roar in October, a victory in the match is as good as a title shot itself. Smith, Brody and Matsushita all have the size and power to be favorites in a multi man rumble, now this move has improved the odds vastly as they will enter last and fresh to face the remaining competitors.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <img alt="PBv4Hhr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PBv4Hhr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="5bss42b.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5bss42b.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> As announced upon his third (out of seven total) successful defense of the BCG Challengers Series title, Bunrakuken Torii will be headlining the Survivor show against Yoshinaka Taku for the newly introduced BCG National title. Torii once again used his microphone time at the press conference to talk about his prolonged defense of the Challengers Series title, what he and Puroresu-gun stand for and his thoughts about the match, but it was Yoshinaka Taku who stole the show when he announced that he and father Toshinobu Taku have agreed to put Team Taku on indefinite hiatus, thus allowing each member to focus on their careers as singles wrestlers. As for the Challengers Series title itself, which will be vacated due to Torii's title shot, the next holder will be determined in August at The Lion Rises show, though contenders have yet to be announced.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <img alt="8jfbhLn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8jfbhLn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> After the departure of Yoriie Ippitsusai and the announcement that Masayuki Shiga will be leaving after the Survivor show, Funakoshi has more than his title and injury to worry about. Asked about the future of Seven Samurai and recruiting potential new members, the reigning BCG World champion stressed that "having worthy members is more important than having a catchy faction name and seven members no matter what". Other than his vague response, it is unknown what's in Funakoshi's mind on the matter, but given the group's Japanese-only policy, the only person on the roster to currently fit the bill is Kyuichi Matsumoto, a man whose performances led to him being ousted from Puroresu-gun and far from an ideal candidate.</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45613" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">The Survivor</span></strong></p><p><strong> Show Card</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Main Event</strong></p><p><strong> National title match</strong></p><p> Yoshinaka Taku © vs "Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii</p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Survivor 15 man Royal Rumble</strong></p><p><strong> Two men start in the ring, with more joining in timed intervals. Eikichi Itou & Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Gidayu Katou & MUSCLE Serizawa (Puroresu-gun) vs Motoyuki Miyake & Shuzo Utagawa (Seven Samurai)

A three way tag team match between young lions, this one does a decent job of showcasing the rookies while warming up the crowd for what's to follow. Despite being the only team to not represent a faction, Itou and Matsumoto are not the first ones eliminated but those to score the first elimination when Itou pins Serizawa after an Itou bomb. However, Matsumoto does end up taking the final pin, with the prominent duo of Miyake and Utagawa picking up the win in the opener.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Motoyuki Miyake and Shuzo Utagawa defeated Eikichi Itou and Kyuichi Matsumoto and Gidayu Katou and MUSCLE Serizawa in 10:28; the order of elimination was Gidayu Katou and MUSCLE Serizawa first, and then Eikichi Itou and Kyuichi Matsumoto.

The event's big 15 man match starts with Yuki Horigoshi, Naozane Goto, Conner Threepwood and Masayuki Shiga in the ring. Unsurprisingly, stablemates and occasional tag team partners Threepwood and Goto work together against the other two competitors, making the best of Goto's size and power to score the first elimination of the match over Horigoshi.

Ffwz2MA.jpgVfnB77X.jpg7VXjYUs.jpg32BXfva.jpg

Kiyotaka comes out next, his technical prowess slowing down the match a notch. Given Goto's weakness against submissions, it's up to Threepwood to trade holds with Kiyotaka, a decision that leaves an opening for Shiga to catch an unprepared Goto from behind with a Sleeper for the tap out.

VfnB77X.jpg7VXjYUs.jpg32BXfva.jpgNM77ZC7.jpg

Toshinobu Taku is out next and the match pace picks up for a bit, but Shiga seems unable to keep up as age has sapped his stamina. Noticing the veteran's weakness, Toshi Taku makes sure to lure Threepwood and Kiyotaka into tangling up while he catches the tired Shiga with a DDT for the elimination.

VfnB77X.jpg32BXfva.jpgNM77ZC7.jpgf91Xwo7.jpg

Animal Harker is the next entrant and once again, the two members of Coast to Coast team up against the oppposition. An effective tactic at first, until Harker finds himself brawling at ringside with Toshi Taku, too busy to notice Threepwood trapped in Kiyotaka's Kimura before the tap out.

Rob Reynolds runs down to the ring next, joining the strikefest at ringside as Kiyotaka takes a break to recover. The brawl eventually comes back into the ring and after a double roundhouse kick combination from the two gaijin, Toshinobu Taku is eliminated.

The unlikely gaijin alliance only gets stronger when Pavel Vazycha comes out next, with Kiyotaka caught in the middle. Suffering blow after blow, Kiyotaka is hit with a big spear from Harker who turns to the entrance awaiting the next competitor.

Given the set-up, Blast Ikoma gets a big reaction from the audience as he hits the ring to clean house. Fresher than the competition, Ikoma hits all three men with a suplex, covering Harker for the pin once he's done.

http://i.imgur.com/CO7PSWX.jpgTIiOlFj.jpgjDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpg

Despite his strong start, Ikoma has more gaijin to worry about as Storm Spillane comes out next. The two men trade blows in the middle of the ring until Reynolds gets involved to help his fellow Rogue Trooper. The team-up forces Ikoma and Vanzycha to work together and the unlikely alliance pays off when Reynolds is eliminated by Vanzycha.

TIiOlFj.jpgjDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpgdVZrivn.jpg

Reynolds is immediately replaced by Whitlock, meaning Vanzycha and Ikoma continue to team up against the Rogue Troopers duo. Exhaustion starts to set in though and the tide shifts, leading to Whitlock hitting his finisher on Vanzycha for the elimination.

jDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpgdVZrivn.jpgHHP9byq.jpg

Once Giant Brody comes out, it's clear we're down to the final three entrants, with just Matsushita and Smith left to compete. Brody comes out with all the confidence in the world, taking down Whitlock and Spillane with a double lariat but Ikoma had been lying in wait; with a pounce, he grabs Brody for a series of rolling suplexes, before eliminating him to a rain of cheers.

jDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpgdVZrivn.jpg4z5J7B2.jpg

The other half of the BCG World Tag Team champions comes out and apparently their plan of teaming up to take out the opposition won't be happening. Furious, Matsushita takes out his anger on Ikoma but that focus means Spillane and Whitlock are given enough time to recover and work together to take down the big man, both falling on top of him to make sure he stays down for the three count.

jDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpgdVZrivn.jpgPOBEZKK.jpg

Final entrant Bulldozer Brandon Smith isn't happy at all with his stablemates falling like that and bodies fly out of the ring once he gets to work. A Backdrop Driver later, Whitlock is down and the ref counts to three to mark the elimination.

jDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpgPOBEZKK.jpg

It's down to three men now, but Spillane pulls off a shocking stunt when he slingshots off the ropes towards Smith; a second too late to break up the pin, he switches his plan mid-course, jumping on the big man's back instead to lock in a cobra clutch. Slowly but surely, in the most dramatic fashion, Smith falls to one knee, then both. Referre raises his hand once... twice... and Smith is eliminated!

jDRVOCy.jpg1fN7bAM.jpg

Both Ikoma and Spillane have endured much, but they are the last men standing; a pinfall or submission away from winning the third ever Survivor match. Things are slow, painfully so, as both competitors have taken much damage all the while since entering the match and the ending sequence involves them trading forearms in a contest of fighting spirit, before Spillane collapses onto Ikoma, who turns it into a belly to belly suplex for the final pin.

National title match

Yoshinaka Taku © vs "Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii

Barely the second defense after the title's debut six months ago, this one is nevertheless a thrilling match between two legitimate superstars of Black Canvas Grappling. Both men know this is going to be a marathon, not a sprint and so pace themselves accordingly, signalling to the crowd as well that this will be a long one. The opening strikes lead to a stand off so little by little, Taku and Torii begin to introduce bigger, flashier moves in an attempt to destroy each other. For all their individual skill, their styles don't exactly mesh very well, but the in-ring action is so captivating it's easy to overlook. As things reach a climax, it boils down to whether Taku can properly execute the Full Nelson Bomb or how many of Torii's Spinning Forearm Smashes he can take while still being able to kick out of the pin attempts that follow. The match goes well past thirty minutes without ever feeling like it's dragging on and finally at 31:29, Taku hits a huge Full Nelson Bomb that earns him the pin to retain.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Yoshinaka Taku defeated Bunrakuken Torii in 31:29 by pinfall with a Full Nelson Bomb. Yoshinaka Taku makes defence number 2 of his BCG National title.

BCG's usual crop of young lions was on display in the show's opener in a six man tag match that showcased the new landscape in the promotion after the abolishment of factions. Some decent back and forth as every man had a share of the spotlight, with the finish seeing Miyake pin Serizawa for the win.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Motoyuki Miyake, Shuzo Utagawa and Kyuichi Matsumoto defeated Gidayu Katou, Eikichi Itou and MUSCLE Serizawa in 9:50 when Motoyuki Miyake defeated MUSCLE Serizawa by pinfall with a Knock Out Kick.</strong></p><p><strong>

American Demolition Mk. II vs Team Taku</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Despite Team Taku's announcement prior to The Survivor tour, father and son teamed up again in a 'one night only' appearance against the second incarnation of American Demolition. Toshinobu Taku met Harker's animalistic brawling with a cool head and iron resilience, controlling the pace of the match until Smith got the tag to really make things difficult for the veteran. Toshi Taku found himself isolated on the corner of American Demolition and had to really struggle for the hot tag to his son, who came in with a series of stiff shots to both Smith and Harker. The rest of the match was Yoshinaka Taku going mostly 2 on 1 against his opponents in hopes of buying his father some recovery time but American Demolition Mk. II put that plan to rest when Smith spiked the BCG National champion with a Tombstone Piledriver for the pin, winning himself a shot at the title in the process.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, American Demolition Mk.II defeated Toshinobu Taku and Yoshinaka Taku in 13:43 when Bulldozer Brandon Smith defeated Yoshinaka Taku by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver.</strong></p><p><strong>

BCG World Tag Team titles match</strong></p><p><strong>

Partnership of Pain © vs Threepwood & Goto</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Another match made possible via BCG no longer preventing stablemates from facing each other, the night's first title match saw former Coast to Coast allies go head to head for tag team gold. This was as short as it was hard-hitting, with Threepwood caught in a bullfight between three massive competitors. Having to carry his partner through the match, Goto did an admirable job but ultimately fell to the champions, marking their fifth defense of the title.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Partnership Of Pain defeated Threepwood & Goto in 11:25 when Rokuemon Matsushita defeated Naozane Goto by pinfall with an One-Handed Choke Slam. Partnership Of Pain make defence number 5 of their BCG World Tag Team titles.</strong></p><p><strong>

Challengers Series title match</strong></p><p><strong>

Kiyotaka vs Bunrakuken Torii vs Pavel Vanzycha</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A last minute change to the announced match card as Ray Snow was booked to wrestle for PGHW on the same night, leading to his match being cancelled and his scheduled opponent added to the previous one. As the latest holder of the Challengers Series title before relinquishing it for a shot at the BCG National title, Torii made sense and had a chance to recapture the title, but to do so he had to get past both Kiyotaka and Vanzycha. The Polish grappler's resilience especially proved to be a major problem for Torii, who eventually found himself torn over whether he should switch his focus to Kiyotaka or continue pounding on top of all the hits he had landed so far. Kiyotaka's role in this matchup was saved for the later part, when both Torii and Vanzycha had burned up most of the gas in their tanks and thus were forced to slow down to a pace that fit his own mat grappling style better. Opting to go for the easier of two targets, at least in his mind, Kiyotaka worked his way towards locking in the Kimura that got him a tap out from Vanzycha, earning him both the win and the Challengers Series title, his first ever championship gold in his entire career.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Kiyotaka defeated Bunrakuken Torii and Pavel Vanzycha in 16:07 when Kiyotaka defeated Pavel Vanzycha by submission with a Kimura. Kiyotaka wins the BCG Challengers Series title.</strong></p><p><strong>

BCG World title match</strong></p><p><strong>

Funakoshi © vs Blast Ikoma</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

After winning the third ever Survivor match, Blast Ikoma found himself facing Funakoshi for the BCG World title, exactly one year after their clash for the same prize in the main event of the same show. With Funakoshi having won both previous one on one matches (the other being the final of the 2016 Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix) he was the favorite in this match, however Ikoma's odds were vastly improved by the recent injury the champion was still recovering from. Funakoshi's upper back issues were just what Ikoma needed as he hit his usual explosive suplexes to maximize inflicted damage, including a brutal release suplex that sent the champion back first onto the turnbuckle pad. Funakoshi's signature never-say-die samurai attitude was there and kept him going for most of the match, although the damage sustained came back to haunt him more than once, especially during moves that required him to lift his opponent. Sadly for him, his Butterfly Backbreaker is one of them and on several occasions Funakoshi was unsuccessful in his attempts to execute it as his back gave way. Meanwhile, Ikoma even reversed one into his own Northern Lights Bomb finisher, from which Funakoshi somehow kicked out just inches before the referee's hand hit the mat for the third time. It was a gruelling match that went on for nearly half an hour, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until Funakoshi finally hit the Butterfly Backbreaker amongst his own screams of pain to cover Ikoma for a hard-earned victory.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Funakoshi defeated Blast Ikoma in 28:15 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker. Funakoshi makes defence number 8 of his BCG World title. </strong></p><p><strong>

The show kicked off with the #1 contender for the BCG World Tag Team titles match, as it was announced that Ray Snow picked up a severe back injury while wrestling for PGHW, however the remaining three wrestlers in that match would be fighting each other next in a three way elimination match for the vacated BCG Challengers Series title. Both teams put up a great fight, with Muscle Blasters using traditional puroresu tactics against Threepwood's technical prowess and Goto's sheer strength, with the former sumoka hitting Serizawa with a Goto Slam that sent his team to a title rematch against the Partnership of Pain.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Threepwood & Goto defeated Muscle Blasters in 10:22 when Naozane Goto defeated YL MUSCLE Serizawa by pinfall with a Goto Slam.</strong></p><p><strong>

BCG Challengers Series title</strong></p><p><strong>

Animal Harker vs Toshinobu Taku vs Motoyuki Miyake</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

While it would be easy to throw away this match as a last minute switch to make up for Ray Snow's absence, it actually made perfect sense as Kiyotaka's title had been vacated due to him wrestling Funakoshi in the main event for the BCG World title. The bout was as hard hitting as one would expect given the participants, with Harker's aggression leading to a quick elimination of the aging veteran in Toshinobu Taku. The real shocker though came much later, after a stellar back and forth between the two remaining competitors: Miyake hit Harker square in the head with a Knock Out Kick and covered him for the pin to win both the match and title, a bold announcement of his evolution past being another one in the young lion pack.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Motoyuki Miyake defeated Animal Harker and Toshinobu Taku in an Elimination match in 13:49; the order of elimination was Toshinobu Taku first, and then Animal Harker. Motoyuki Miyake wins the BCG Challengers Series title.</strong></p><p><strong>

Bunrakuken Torii vs Pavel Vanzycha</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Torii was obviously the favorite when this match was announced, but after the Ray Snow twist and Miyake's title victory, fans were prepared for a night of surprises. This helped get past the audience's perception of where each wrestler is at, making the match even more dramatic as it felt like it could go to either man. Vanzycha's well documented resilience was a real test for Torii and his flurry of chops, forearms and strikes, pushing the match past the twenty minute mark before Torii hit Vanzycha with the third Spinning Forearm Smash of the match to finally keep him down long enough for the count.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Pavel Vanzycha in 21:15 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash.</strong></p><p><strong>

BCG National title match</strong></p><p><strong>

Yoshinaka Taku © vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The BCG National title was up for grabs in the co-main event, with Bulldozer Brandon Smith wrestling in what many fans and critics had described as a "life and death" situation. Things weren't easy for the big gaijin brawler as his opponent was none other than standout prospect Yoshinaka Taku, a man who won his first title at age 24 with just 5 years in the business only to stand two years after that with a total of four title wins and one tournament victory under his belt. Taku went toe to toe with the big man, trading blows and holds for nearly half an hour and even kicking out of Smith's Backdrop Driver before succumbing to a Tombstone Piledriver.</p><p>

BCG World title match</strong></p><p><strong>

Funakoshi © vs Kiyotaka</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

When this match was first announced, some felt Kiyotaka's big title shot was premature. After all, he was still a young lion not more than a year ago. As the announcing team made sure to point out though, Kiyotaka wasn't pushed out of the blue to this main event; he had put up some exceptional performances alongside Gidayou Katou as Double K and earned his chance after winning and defending the Challengers Series title. As for Kiyotaka himself, he made sure to prove all the naysayers wrong inside the ring, wrestling a spectacular match against one of the all time greats of Black Canvas Grappling in Funakoshi. Both men well known for their ultra serious approach to their craft, they fought each other in a breathtaking main event where the challenger sought a chance to lock in his Kimura while Funakoshi tried to fully execute his Butterfly Backbreaker finisher, with the champion finally managing to pull it off and retain in just over twenty minutes.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Funakoshi defeated Kiyotaka in 20:44 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker. Funakoshi makes defence number 9 of his BCG World title.</strong></p><p><strong>
