Partnership of Pain (Coast to Coast) vs Rob Reynolds & Storm Spillane (Rogue Troopers) vs Yoriie Ippitsusai & Shuzo Utagawa (Seven Samurai)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The opening three way dance featured some solid action and a few pretty big names not in the tournament in order to get the fans going. Shuzo Utagawa was the first to fall, being the only young lion in the match as Rob Reynolds hit him with the Real Deal Rocker for the pin before Ippitsusai could break things up. Once it was down to two teams, the BCG World Tag Team champions were able to focus their considerable power on one pair of opponents and hit the double chokeslam on both Reynolds and Spillane for the finish.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Partnership Of Pain defeated Rob Reynolds and Storm Spillane and Yoriie Ippitsusai and Shuzo Utagawa in 10:03; the order of elimination was Yoriie Ippitsusai and Shuzo Utagawa first, and then Rob Reynolds and Storm Spillane.</strong></p><p><strong>

American Demolition Mk.II (Coast to Coast) vs Shiga & Miyake (Seven Samurai)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Kicking off the tournament is American Demolition Mk.II, technically winners of last year but this one with Harker instead of Findlay, against the surprisingly successful pairing of Masayuki Shiga and Motoyuki Miyake. Fan support is split between the loyalist duo and the gaijin team and after some back and forth that lets each man hit a few of their signature spots, Harker nails Miyake with the Stump Piledriver for the pin.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, American Demolition Mk.II defeated Shiga & Miyake in 8:26 when Animal Harker defeated Motoyuki Miyake by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.</strong></p><p><strong>

TagMania tournament quarterfinal 2</strong></p><p><strong>

Team Taku (Seven Samurai) vs Threepwood & Goto (Coast to Coast)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Team Taku are the obvious favorites in match number two of the tournament and what they lack in chemistry compared to their opponents they make up in experience, both individually and as a team. Not to downplay Threepwood's mat grappling skills or Goto's power, but the young lion's lack of experience means he quickly falls prey to a submission hold and Team Taku are the ones to advance.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Team Taku defeated Threepwood & Goto in 5:34 when Toshinobu Taku defeated Naozane Goto by submission.</strong></p><p><strong>

TagMania tournament quarterfinal 3</strong></p><p><strong>

Double K (Puroresu-gun) vs Sakata & Kawano (No Affiliation)</strong></p></div><p></p><p>

WEXXV's representatives in Battle Sakata and Kimi Kawano bring the promotion's trademark resilience and hard hitting style into this match, but a combination of Sakata's age, Kawano's inexperience and a lack of time together compared to their opponents means they are eliminated from the tournament in about eight minutes or so. Double K and American Demolition Mk.II are the first confirmed pair for the semi finals.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Double K defeated Sakata & Kawano in 8:10 when Kiyotaka defeated Kimi Kawano by submission with a Kimura.</strong></p><p><strong>

TagMania tournament quarterfinal 4</strong></p><p><strong>

Muscle Blasters (Puroresu-gun) vs The Ring Generals (No Affiliation)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Fans are solid in support of the homegrown Muscle Blasters against the gaijin but everyone's in for a shock when the Ring Generals open the match with an exchange of blows and quickly hit the Wheelbarrow Bomb on Serizawa for the elimination, marking their first big win in a major event on Japanese soil while also advancing to the semi finals, where they will be facing Team Taku.</p><p>

<strong>In an extremely short match, The Ring Generals defeated Muscle Blasters in 3:52 when Dean Waldorf defeated MUSCLE Serizawa by pinfall with a Wheelbarrow Bomb.</strong></p><p><strong>

Loser leaves Puroresu-gun</strong></p><p><strong>

"100% Machine" Yuki Horigoshi vs Kyuichi Matsumoto</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The first round of the tournament ends and we're off to an intermission singles bout as two members of Puroresu-gun who haven't been doing great as of late square off in a match to determine who gets to stay and who leaves the group. A barely watchable match for BCG standards, this showcases exactly why the two men have been faring so bad and things mercifully end with Horigoshi picking up the win over the young lion.</p><p>

<strong>In a poor match, Yuki Horigoshi defeated YL Kyuichi Matsumoto in 9:34 by pinfall with a Yuki Rush Lariat.</strong></p><p><strong>

American Demolition Mk.II vs Double K</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Hot off their quarter final victories, the two teams jump into the fire from the opening bell. American Demolition Mk.II seem to be thinking long term and hold back to save something for the final, which at first allows Double K to control the match but it only takes a well-scouted reversal to hit Katou with the Stump Piledriver and wrap things up as the second incarnation of American Demolition advances to the finals of the tournament aiming for back-to-back wins.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, American Demolition Mk.II defeated Double K in 6:36 when Animal Harker defeated Gidayu Katou by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver.</strong></p><p><strong>

TagMania tournament semifinal 2</strong></p><p><strong>

Team Taku vs The Ring Generals</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The Ring Generals attempt to focus their offense on Toshinobu Taku who's already looking worn down from a combination of age and damage from the quarter final match. Turns out the veteran sacrificed himself to lure in the gaijin though and after a hot tag to his son, the former champions hit Statler with the Taku Tag Treatment, taking them to face American Demolition Mk.II in the finals.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Team Taku defeated The Ring Generals in 6:27 when Yoshinaka Taku defeated Marv Statler by pinfall with a Taku Tag Treatment.</strong></p><p><strong>

BCG Challengers Series title match</strong></p><p><strong>

"Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii (Puroresu-gun) vs Pavel Vanzycha (No Affiliation)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Another singles intermission match before the big tournament final, this one marks Bunrakuken Torii's third title defense in an attempt to complete the medallion triplet. His opponent is Polish newcomer Pavel Vanzycha, who's already got a solid tour with PGHW under his belt and a few good performances during the later stages of BCG's most recent tour. This unpredictability turns out to be Vanzucha's greatest asset as Torii does not know what to expect from him, but after a hard fought and very physical battle, he is able to hit him with the Spinning Forearm Smash to win the match.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Pavel Vanzycha in 16:18 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash. Bunrakuken Torii makes defence number 3 of his BCG Challengers Series title.</strong></p><p><strong>

TagMania tournament final</strong></p><p><strong>

American Demolition Mk.II vs Team Taku</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both teams are skilled and both teams are tired from the road leading to this big final, but American Demolition Mk.II seem to enjoy a slight advantage thanks to their game plan during the earlier stages and Toshinobu Taku's advanced age taking its toll. What foils their plan though is overconfidence, as they seek to get the victory with a pin on Yoshinaka Taku so they can hope for a shot at his BCG National title. This does allow Toshi a breather and once Smith is down at ringside, he uses the opportunity to join his son in the ring and set up Harker for the Taku Tag Treatment.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Team Taku defeated American Demolition Mk.II in 16:11 when Yoshinaka Taku defeated Animal Harker by pinfall with a Taku Tag Treatment. Toshinobu Taku and Yoshinaka Taku win the BCG TagMania titles.</strong></p><p><strong>

BCG World title match</strong></p><p><strong>

Funakoshi (Seven Samurai) vs Sterling Whitlock (Rogue Troopers)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Despite losing the Challengers Series title to Bunrakuken Torii before he could collect all three medallions, Whitlock still lands in the main event thanks to his cash-in of Puroresu-gun's point victory, which of course was followed by his departure from the group itself. This opportunistic setup only serves to make him more despised by fans while highlighting Funakoshi's honorable character in comparison. The match itself is slow and methodical with neither man overexerting himself as they both understand this will be a long and tactical battle and things keep escalating with every spot after the opening ten or fifteen minutes. Just seconds before the half hour time limit and with a draw on the horizon (meaning Funakoshi would retain, but not via pinfall or submission) the defending champion is finally able to hit Whitlock with the third Butterfly Backbreaker of the night and hold him down for the pin, ending the show with a win and a feel good moment to send fans home happy.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Funakoshi defeated Sterling Whitlock in 29:48 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker. Funakoshi makes defence number 6 of his BCG World title.</strong></p><p><strong>

Despite working the opening match and being the first team eliminated, Yoriie had stuck around until the end, when Funakoshi finally pinned Whitlock. According to the backstage rules, everyone was expected to stick around until the end of the event, but I knew Yoriie would have done so anyway. He watched every match from backstage. He wished his fellow workers good luck before they went out there and congratulated them once they'd made their way back again. There was more than just his in-ring skill and consistency that made him "Mr. Dependable". It was his attitude, his work ethic and his personality. Tonight had been his swan song and I was sad to see him go, but we both knew it was the right thing to do. His performance had been dropping rapidly, so bad even tag or multi man matches couldn't hide it. He had no proteges or anyone I'd discovered any chemistry with. Even if he did, he was adamant about making way for the next generation. Not just in the ring, but in the company budget as well. We'd hired him in December of 2011. Just over five years or loyalty, hard work and consistency. He had earned his break, even if he hadn't made up his mind about retiring within the next couple of months.</p><p> </p><p>

TagMania had done its job. Shiga almost took his final bow alongside Ippitsusai. Miyake, Katou and Serizawa all got some valuable experience. The Ring Generals got their first big win with us. American Demolition almost made it and Team Taku won their first ever TagMania, setting them up for a title rematch against the Partnership of Pain at Test of Champions in May. I had to plan for this year's Grand Prix now, but at least I would be getting a monthly break first. All of us would. Much like Yoriie, we had all earned it.</p>

<span style="font-size:14px;">Analysis</span></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="PBv4Hhr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PBv4Hhr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Current holder of the Challengers Series title and leader of Puroresu-gun, "Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii will be gunning for victory in order to face Funakoshi and reclaim the World title. Torii was not a part of last year's Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix due to being the champion at the time and given how Funakoshi won to beat him for the gold, Torii would like nothing more than to give the leader of the Seven Samurai a taste of his own medicine.</p><p>

Key match: Against Kiyotaka, the only other member of Puroresu-gun in the A Block.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dVZrivn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dVZrivn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Sterling Whitlock "robbed" Puroresu-gun before defecting to form the Rogue Troopers, but despite great matches since, hasn't really managed to end up with a tangible reward. He won the Challengers Series title only to lose it to Bunrakuken Torii before he could make the 3 defenses and even the shot he got at Funakoshi's title at TagMania he couldn't convert to gold. Whitlock is running out of chances and he knows if he doesn't win the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix, it may well be a long time before he gets any more chances.</p><p>

Key match: Against Pavel Vanzycha, a strong contender he has never faced before in BCG.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="TIiOlFj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TIiOlFj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Pavel Vanzycha joined BCG in the middle of the TagMania tour and already impressed enough to get a return invitation for the prestigious Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix. Despite his loss to Bunrakuken Torii at the end of the tour, Vanzycha remains a dangerous contender who still remains largely unknown to his oppponents. If he can use this element of surprise in his favor, he could be hoping for a regular touring relationship with BCG and perhaps a few more opportunities down the road.</p><p>

Key match: Against Animal Harker, another tough and hard opponent.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="f91Xwo7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/f91Xwo7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Animal Harker has long been an almost man in BCG. He teamed up with Bulldozer Brandon Smith shortly after the first incarnation of American Demolition won the TagMania 3 tournament. He almost won this year, making it to the finals where they lost to Team Taku. Within 2016, he also won the Challengers Series title but couldn't defeat Yoshinaka Taku for the National title. While not exactly a favourite to win this year's Grand Prix, a good performance could lead to him breaking into the main event scene within the year.</p><p>

Key matches: Against Sterling Whitlock and Pavel Vanzycha, two men who came in to steal his thunder despite his consistently good performances with BCG.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="VfnB77X.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VfnB77X.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Conner Threepwood was off to a rough start in Black Canvas until he began to regularly team up with Naozane Goto. Although far from being a raging success, the team gave him enough momentum to earn him a spot at this year's Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix and he will be looking to do his best in order to improve his standing in the company.</p><p>

Key match: Against fellow gaijin on the rise, Animal Harker</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="32BXfva.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/32BXfva.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Last year, Kiyotaka was toiling in the bottom of the food chain as a young lion. Ever since he outgrew his status as such, he has been putting on surprisingly good performances next to Gidayu Katou as Double K, a team that entered this year's TagMania tournament for the first time, making it to the semi finals. Kiyotaka now has a chance to show what he can do as a singles wrestler and display his growth since last year, meaning his performance could make or break his future with the company.</p><p>

Key match: Against Conner Threepwood, a low ranking but skilled and experienced gaijin.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

<img alt="7VXjYUs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7VXjYUs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The elder statesman of Black Canvas Grappling, Masayuki Shiga will be participating in his final Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix at the venerable age of 52. Considering the toll a career with PGHW and BCG has taken on his body, being able to wrestle alone speaks volumes about his toughness, a trait most valuable in a gruelling tournament such as the Grand Prix. Even if he doesn't win, Shiga should be able to rob some of his fellow competitors of some points and would love to wrap up his last Grand Prix with a final score.</p><p>

Key match: Against Bulldozer Brandon Smith, his biggest and strongest opponent.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/CO7PSWX.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Rob Reynolds was the first of the Rogue Troopers to "invade" BCG, before Storm Spillane and Sterling Whitlock followed suit. Perhaps a bit outperformed by them since, Reynolds nonetheless remains a dangerous opponent and with both his stablemates in the race, we can expect some competition between them as far as performance in their inaugural Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix goes.</p><p>

Key match: Against Storm Spillane.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="1fN7bAM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1fN7bAM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The final Rogue Trooper in this year's Grand Prix, Spillane seems to have toned down the high flying aspect of his game that made him famous in CZCW in order to improve his brawling and technical skills. This ability to adapt makes him a formidable opponent, able to adjust depending on who he's up against and might be the key to a good performance throughout the entire Grand Prix.</p><p>

Key match: Against Rob Reynolds.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="jDRVOCy.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jDRVOCy.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Last year, Blast Ikoma won his block and made it to the finals, before losing to Funakoshi who proceeded to win the BCG World title. Despite a solid year of performances next to MUSCLE Serizawa as Muscle Blasters, Ikoma certainly hasn't forgotten and his team's surprise loss to the Ring Generals during this year's TagMania quarterfinals seems to have re-ignited his inner flame. The landscape is nothing like last year's Grand Prix, but then again, neither is he.</p><p>

Key match: Against Bulldozer Brandon Smith</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="POBEZKK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/POBEZKK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Much like his American Demolition Mk.II partner, Smith has been repeatedly hitting a glass ceiling since winning TagMania 3 with Big Bruiser Findlay last year. Despite a reign as tag team champions and a second run with the Challengers Series title in 2016, it feels like Smith hasn't fully realized his potential in BCG. The recent influx of PGHW imports has dethroned him as the promotion's top gaijin heel and even if he doesn't end up winning the Grand Prix, Smith can at least reclaim his spot at the top of that mountain.</p><p>

Key matches: Against Rob Reynolds and Storm Spillane.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Vi9pn5n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Vi9pn5n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

"100% Machine" Yuki Horigoshi joined BCG and Puroresu-gun with much fanfare but has since failed to deliver upon the hype. A string of disappointing performances led to him wrestling Kyuichi Matsumoto for a spot with the stable and Horigoshi would do well to capitalize on the momentum of his win in order to reinvent himself for his first ever Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix.</p><p>

Key match: Against fellow Puroresu-gun member Blast Ikoma.</p>

While the outcome may not affect any of the other competitors, it sure is a matter of pride for both men, neither of which wants to finish their first ever Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix with no points.</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> This one is about pride and avoiding the bottom spot so it's bound to be exciting, even if it ends up as a time limit draw.</p><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong> Animal Harker stands above those two at five points. His scheduled opponent is none other than "Machine Gun" Bunrakuken Torii and even if he somehow manages to win, there is no way he can hope to be the one on top of the rankings for the A Block.</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> Harker knows this isn't about the points. A victory over Torii could be huge for him going forward and he will fight tooth and claw for it. Which means Torii shouldn't take things for granted, as Harker could potentially cost him the last few valuable points he needs to win the block.</p><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong> Torii will be fighting for survival here, not only must he win, he must also hope Whitlock versus Vanzycha ends in a draw so he can advance. It will be interesting to see what happens if Vanzycha wins though, as the tie-breaker between him and Torii also ended in a draw.</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> Which leads us to the final A block match between Whitlock and Vazycha. As mentioned, Vanzycha wants nothing short of a win here to top the block but so does Whitlock, unless Torii loses his match before him. Should Torii win and hit 8 points, Whitlock will want to avoid a draw against Vanzycha as he too drew against Torii.</p><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong>That's three potential winners for the A block, let's now look at what the B Block standings look like</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45613" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>B Block standings</strong></p><p> Storm Spillane: 7</p><p> Blast Ikoma: 6</p><p> Bulldozer Brandon Smith: 6</p><p> Rob Reynolds: 3</p><p> Masayuki Shiga: 2</p><p> Yuki Horigoshi: 0</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong> Yuki Horigoshi takes the bottom spot at zero points, not a good run in his first ever Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix and it doesn't look any better for him as his final opponent will be Rob Reynolds.</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> Reynolds is the clear favorite in this matchup but even a victory over Horigoshi won't be enough to make him the winner of the B block.</p><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong> Next to last is the venerable Masayuki Shiga at 2 points, his only victory so far over the aforementioned Horigoshi. Shiga will be wrestling Storm Spillane who's on top of the rankings and to make matters worse, he has been reported as having picked up a slight neck injury courtesy of a Blast Ikoma suplex during their latest match.</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> Odds are in Spillane's favor but Smith and Ikoma aren't far behind. Shiga's resilience is well documented and if the veteran is able to deprive Spillane of any points, this could mean a fall from the top of the scorecard.</p><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong> Speaking of those two, Smith and Ikoma will be hoping for a Shiga victory so they can maintain hope of advancing to the final. Even a draw won't help them, since Spillane has beaten both in their individual matchups.</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> No matter the outcome before their match though, both men will want to do well and defeat each other; Ikoma would love nothing more than to pick up where he left off last year and hopefully break away from Torii's shadow, whereas Smith will be out to reclaim his spot as BCG's top gaijin monster.</p><p> <strong>Inoue:</strong> Right before the final match though, it's a stables clash between the Seven Samurai and Coast to Coast. Funakoshi and Team Taku have been clashing with the Partnership of Pain and either Naozane Goto throughout the month and of course this is all leading up to the big title match between the TagMania 4 winners and the BCG World Tag Team champions!</p><p> <strong>Kawamata:</strong> Opening the show before that is a young lion three way tag match; Miyake and Utagawa representing the Seven Samurai against Katou and Serizawa of Puroresu-gun. Eikichi Itou of Coast to Coast will be teaming with ousted former Puroresu-gun member Kyuichi Matsumoto and given Matsumoto's love for powerbombs and spinebusters, I wouldn't be surprised to see him join that stable after all.</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45613" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="1V04m46.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1V04m46.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> <strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix final</span></p><p> Winner of Block A vs Winner of Block B</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Co-Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Three Way Faction match</span></p><p> Seven Samurai (Funakoshi & Team Taku) vs Coast to Coast (Powers of Pain & Naozane Goto)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>B Block match</strong></p><p> Blast Ikoma (Puroresu-gun, 6 points) vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith (Coast to Coast, 6 points)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>A Block match</strong></p><p> Pavel Vanzycha (No affiliation, 6 points) vs Sterling Whitlock (Rogue Troopers, 7 points)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>B Block match</strong></p><p> Masayuki Shiga (Seven Samurai, 2 points) vs Storm Spillane (Rogue Troopers, 7 points)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>A Block match</strong></p><p> Animal Harker (Coast to Coast, 5 points) vs Bunrakuken Torii (Puroresu-gun, 6 points)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>B Block match</strong></p><p> Rob Reynolds (Rogue Troopers, 3 points) vs Yuki Horigoshi (Puroresu-gun, 0 points)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>A Block match</strong></p><p> Conner Threepwood (Coast to Coast, 0 points) vs Kiyotaka (Puroresu-gun, 0 points)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Opening match</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Three way young lion tag match</span></p><p> Motoyuki Miyake & Shuzo Utagawa (Seven Samurai) vs Gidayu Katou & MUSCLE Serizawa (Puroresu-gun) vs Eikichi Itou (Coast to Coast) & Kyuichi Matsumoto (No affiliation)</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>

Sporting a sharper look and attitude, Gidayu Katou starts the match strong against fellow powerhouse Eikichi Itou. The back and forth eventually leads to a tag and after a rough suplex, Serizawa covers Matsumoto for the first elimination. It's a faction thing after that point, Puroresu-gun against Seven Samurai. Utagawa and Miyake are clearly the better wrestlers, but it only takes a lucky opening for Katou to catch Utagawa with a lariat and secure the win for his team in the opening bout.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Gidayu Katou and MUSCLE Serizawa defeated Eikichi Itou and Kyuichi Matsumoto and Shuzo Utagawa and Motoyuki Miyake in 10:16; the order of elimination was Eikichi Itou and Kyuichi Matsumoto first, and then Shuzo Utagawa and Motoyuki Miyake.</strong></p><p><strong>

Conner Threepwood (Coast to Coast, 0 points) vs Kiyotaka (Puroresu-gun, 0 points)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A match more about pride than a chance to actually win the A block, this one sees both men go at it in a final attempt to capture their first ever points in their first ever Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix. Most of it is spent on the mat and almost all of it exchanging holds thanks to the crisp technical skills of both competitors and for the most part, it looks like it's going to be a time limit draw until Kiyotaka manages to apply a Kimura in the center of the ring to force the submission and earn his first ever win in the Grand Prix alongside two points, while Threepwood returns to the back with zero points in his first ever Grand Prix.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Kiyotaka defeated Conner Threepwood in 13:44 by submission with a Kimura.</strong></p><p><strong>

Rob Reynolds (Rogue Troopers, 3 points) vs Yuki Horigoshi (Puroresu-gun, 0 points)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Much like the previous match, this one has nothing to do with topping the block and it is more about ending both men's first ever Grand Prix on a high note. Horigoshi's strength lies in his stamina and given the 15 minute time limit on the match, he doesn't really have a chance to make it count; Reynolds on the other hand brings a flurry of kicks making for a pretty physical match, one he ends up winning after he hits the Real Deal Rocker. Ending his run at zero points, Horigoshi retreats backstage with a disappointed look on his face while Reynolds takes a solid 5 points home after his inaugural attempt at the tournament.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Rob Reynolds defeated Yuki Horigoshi in 14:22 by pinfall with a Real Deal Rocker.</strong></p><p><strong>

Animal Harker (Coast to Coast, 5 points) vs Bunrakuken Torii (Puroresu-gun, 6 points)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The chemistry between these two competitors is well documented and it makes for an exciting match full of stiff strikes and hard hitting power moves. Although Harker is mathematically out of the race to top the A block, he is anything but willing to give less than 100% in a fight against the Challengers Series title holder. Torii has to fight tooth and claw in a race against Harker, his A block rivals and the clock, but finally a minute before the time limit he manages to hit his opponent with the Spinning Forearm Smash and get the pin. Harker takes home 5 points and a consistent run, while Torii climbs to 8 points, his only chance to win being if Vanzycha manages to defeat Whitlock, a situation that prolongs tension and adds another layer of excitement to the final match of the A block.</p><p>

Masayuki Shiga (Seven Samurai, 2 points) vs Storm Spillane (Rogue Troopers, 7 points)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Standing on top of the B block with 7 points, Spillane seems pretty confident against the ageing and injured Shiga who's scraping the bottom with barely 2 points so far in the tournament. It is this overconfidence the crafty veteran exploits, overcoming his own limitations to get a second wind and catch Spillane with a Deadlift German that leads into the pin at just over five minutes. Shocked, Spillane ends the tournament at 7 points still as the announcing duo breaks down his situation; if either Smith or Ikoma wins the final match of the B block, they will be taking the top spot instead to advance in the finals. The only way Spillane can hope to be in that place is if their match ends in a draw that takes all three men to 7 points, since he had defeated both Smith and Ikoma in their tie-breaker matches. Meanwhile, Shiga celebrates his victory with a final bow to the crowd, this being his final Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix ever and gets a standing ovation for his overall work throughout the years.</p><p>

<strong>In an extremely short match, Masayuki Shiga defeated Storm Spillane in 5:16 by pinfall with a Deadlift German Suplex.</strong></p><p><strong>

Pavel Vanzycha (No affiliation, 6 points) vs Sterling Whitlock (Rogue Troopers, 7 points)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

With Bunrakuken Torii now sitting at 8 points, this match becomes a life and death gamble for both men involved. This is evident in both the stiffness of their strikes as well as the warrior spirit on display, with Whitlock taking a straightforward puroresu approach as opposed to Vanzycha's tough oldschool European style. Tension builds as the match progresses and it almost takes the full fifteen minutes until Whitlock is able to hit the Whitlock's End for the win, thus reaching 9 points and winning the A Block.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Sterling Whitlock defeated Pavel Vanzycha in 14:09 by pinfall with a Whitlock's End.</strong></p><p><strong>

Blast Ikoma (Puroresu-gun, 6 points) vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith (Coast to Coast, 6 points)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

After Spillane's surprise loss to Shiga, Ikoma and Smith both understand their match simply cannot end in a draw. Despite their styles not really meshing well, their clash is extremely physical and fans are drawn in thanks to the added drama of the tournament standings. Making the best of his size advantage, Smith manages to resist the onslaught of Ikoma's explosive suplexes and shortly after the tenth minute hits him with a Backdrop Driver to win both the match and the B Block.</p><p>

<strong>In a decent match, Bulldozer Brandon Smith defeated Blast Ikoma in 11:08 by pinfall with a Backdrop Driver.</strong></p><p><strong>

Seven Samurai (Funakoshi & Team Taku) vs Coast to Coast (Partnership of Pain & Naozane Goto)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The co-main event is based on the upcoming clash between TagMania 4 winners Team Taku and the reigning BCG World Tag Team champions the Partnership of Pain. Despite the champions' obvious size and power advantage, especially after the adddition of Naozane Goto, their opponents team up with the BCG World champion himself and once every man has had some time in the ring to do their part, Toshinobu Taku wraps things up with a sleeper hold on the young lion.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Toshinobu Taku and Yoshinaka Taku) defeated Coast to Coast (Giant Brody, Rokuemon Matsushita and Naozane Goto) in 10:27 when Toshinobu Taku defeated Naozane Goto by submission.</strong></p><p><strong>

Sterling Whitlock vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The show's main event and finals of the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix is highly symbolic, something the announcers make sure to point out as the established gaijin monster in Smith clashes with the recent PGHW import in youngster Whitlock. Both men have already wrestled another match earlier in the night, with Smith having the slightest of advantages due to his match being somewhat shorter than Whitlock's. Things build up as time goes on and since both competitors favor a strike based approach, the ensuing match is a hard hitting as they come. Once again, Smith's size works in his favor as it's giving Whitlock some trouble as far as executing his finishing move, something Smith has no problem doing twice before he manages to score the pin.</p><p>

<strong>In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bulldozer Brandon Smith defeated Sterling Whitlock in 16:19 by pinfall with a Backdrop Driver. Bulldozer Brandon Smith wins the BCG Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix title. </strong></p><p><strong>

Fresh off his recent victory, the winner of the 2017 Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix seemed confident at the press conference, saying he looks forward to facing champion Funakoshi for the BCG World title at Test of Champions. As if to further stack the deck in Smith's favor, Funakoshi revealed he has been carrying a niggling back injury he picked up during the Grand Prix show and according to his doctors, he won't be back to 100% before the upcoming break in July. The two men have clashed before for the title back in September of 2016 at the Lion Hunts show, where Funakoshi barely managed to retain the gold; this time things will be harder for him and Smith will surely be targeting his injured back, a perfect setup for his Backdrop Driver finisher.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

With the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix now in the backburner, TagMania 4 winners Team Taku are now set to clash with the Partnership of Pain for the BCG World Tag Team titles at Test of Champions. Both Rokuemon Matsushita and Giant Brody promised to crush the ageing Toshinobu Taku and take the BCG National title of his son, with the challengers avoiding to respond until it's time for the actual match itself.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

<img alt="PBv4Hhr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PBv4Hhr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Speaking of matches put on hold for the Grand Prix and the BCG National title, Bunrakuken Torii announced he will be cashing in Puroresu-gun's point total win during January's Heritage tour for a shot at the gold. Already the holder of the Challengers Series title himself and with all 3 medallions in place after 3 successful defenses, Torii said he aims to keep defending his title in order to unify it with Taku's National one. Given Team Taku's scheduled clash with the Partnership of Pain though, Torii will have to wait until June's Survivor show for that match to take place, meaning both he and Yoshinaka Taku will not be in the big rumble match for the Survivor trophy. What this also means is Torii will have to keep defending his Challengers Series title until that point if he wishes to unify the two straps and given that will be a full two months of touring, he certainly has his work cut out for him.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rYebwAf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rYebwAf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

<img alt="7VXjYUs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7VXjYUs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

On a somewhat emotional note, Masayuki Shiga announced he will be leaving Black Canvas Grappling after June's Survivor show. As the 52 year old veteran pointed out, this does not also mean his retirement from active competition, just a departure from the company in order to allow younger talent to shine and the promotion itself to manage the complicated finances of a post-tsunami Japan. Asked about a potential return to Black Canvas down the road, Shiga said he would love to do so, although if that happens it will be in some sort of backstage role after his proper retirement as a competitor.</p>
