Random question...

I saw that Adam said he's using the Cverse re render thread for the Default data. I was wondering if anyone knows if we will get updated pictures of all the companies title belts as well? I know a lot have been updated, but theres still quite a few that need an update or lacking a belt I believe.

Adam has started doing some work on the data and he'll pick and choose what pictures will be used as replacements for old ones, additions for potential new titles and all the additional Free Worker pictures that will be needed thanks to all the new dojo stuff.

Nothing is confirmed now, but Adam has definitely spoken to many of the image creators to get permission to use many images. :)

Ah just saw this response. Thanks buddy

I'm so glad this game is underway! I have hopes of running a few promotions in Japan, so I was wondering if any of these questions have been addressed:

1. From an AI standpoint, for ongoing round-robin tournaments like the G-1, is there any way to automatically have the winner of these types of tournaments be slotted by CPU promotions into title matches at future shows as a result of winning?

I thought I read that this style of tournament was going to be much better implemented in TEW 2020 for the sake of long-form AI scheduling, where the tournament can run over the course of a month or a few weeks - so that's pretty awesome. I think this area's been improved, but I still wasn't clear if tournament winners would automatically earn a title match in the future.

2. If a Japanese fed signs an international TV deal in areas made up of non-Japanese speakers (i.e. NJPW airing broadcasts on AXS TV in the states), would there be a requirement to assign an English-speaking announce team, since the regular Japanese announce team clearly wouldn't be effective with American audiences?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I see the problem as the TV will almost certainly be made.

#28: Broadcasters

The types of broadcasters have been expanded; there are still Pay-Per-View, Commercial, Free-To-Air, and Subscription, but each of those now has three versions, Terrestrial, Cable, and Internet. So that makes twelve in total. (I'm not sure there's actually such a thing as Terrestrial PPV in reality, but it would actually be more work to take it out, so I've left it in - it might be useful to someone somewhere down the line.)

So for a 90s satellite based TV network would "cable" be the closest choice?

#28: Broadcasters

The old product settings for each broadcaster have been removed and replaced with a broadcaster style, which can be No Focus, Mainstream, Pure Sports, All Sports, Kids, Adults, or Sci-Fi. (The difference between Pure and All Sports being that the latter are more willing to allow entertainment-related wrestling). These styles do pretty much exactly the same thing as the old product settings, but the advantage is that it's significantly easier for database makers (one setting rather than twelve to achieve the same thing) and it's far more intuitive for the player.

Do both 18-34 and 35-64 go into "Adults"?

With the 2016 settings you could set a higher cult and modern for the 18 to 34; while 35 to 64 might have higher traditional and lower cult/modern. Which broadcaster styles would be used to simulate this in TEW2020?

Would a movie focused TV network be set as mainstream, just as a regular commercial mainstream TV network?

Is it really necessary with a specific "Sci Fi" style? Wouldn't it be more useful with "Movies" and "Music" instead?

Will it be possible to change the broadcaster style with either broadcaster changes or a narrative?

Do the mainstream focus include a pro or highly pro stance towards lucha libre? If this is the case, is the option then to make it difficult for lucha libre promotion to land deals with mainstream tv networks outside their traditional markets by giving them a low maximum level setting in game areas?

#28: Broadcasters

Each company can now be set to have maximum limits for how many companies in total they'll have deals with at any one time, and also how many individual broadcasting deals they'll have. This reintroduces and upgrades the ability for database makers to limit a broadcaster.

Is the limit for both TV shows and events? Or just for TV shows?

I don’t know about anyone else but I’d love to see an entire journal exclusively about the database changes and why Adam did what he did.

(Yes, I know he said he won’t spoil anything so this won’t happen.)

I would really like that too. Just to see the creative process of how the world is built. He could easily just make a separate threat with big bold "SPOILERS" on it. that way people who don't want to see the spoilers won't need to worry about it.

Some kind of rundown/lore thing after the game is released might be nice too.

I am super disappointed with this latest journal entry.

In terms of describing how characters are moved and updated, it felt pretty relaxed and brushed aside, in a "No big deal" type of way.

The Cornellverse is in desperate need of a massive retooling, dumping practically every top level TEW 2004 character and bringing new life to the database. The database in TEW 2016 is boring as hell, because most of the top stars are old. I love the Cornellverse's characters, but there has got to be some forward progression here. I don't think moving people around will really work for me this time, and it's a major issue because I haven't really played any other database but the C-Verse since 2004.

I'm not sure how anyone could make that kind of large-scale, probably-tedious database work sound exciting. Companies are closing. Titles are changing. Wrestlers are moving and evolving. What else is there in wrestling?

I'm hoping for an elevation of young talent in a way that makes them feel more essential to the world, rather than simply continuations of the old guard. Something like a new family promotion with guys in their late 20's to replace the Stones/DeColts type companies. Or those smaller, newer companies with the younger talent that already exist replacing the older companies whose identities revolve around the old guard.

I wouldn’t mind more of a retooling of the world that slightly shifts canon, similar to when BSS and Grandmaster Phunk lost a few years some games ago.

As it stands now there really aren’t a ton of u30 talent come 2020 especially ones who will be able to carry the multitude of Cult/National companies in the game. If every region randomly got a 21CW level injection of talent between the games that’d be super fun and helpful.

I think he's being purposefully vague. He stated before that he isn't going to give CVerse spoilers out so I think he's trying to figure out a way to let people know that movement and developments are happening.

I also am pretty confident that we're going to get an influx of new characters. He mentioned in a journal entry that he has a bunch of notes for the CVerse -- new names, changes, etc... So I can only imagine that we will get a bunch of new characters. Especially since the CVerse as it exists now stops having new people at 2025 -- there are going to have to be enough people in the database to keep it moving.

I usually like your posts because they're very honest, but I have no idea what you're getting at. What about this vague update generated this mood? Was it just that it was vague?

Yes, a lot of the top guys in TEW 2016 were around 40. That's because this is a pro wrestling sim, usually wrestlers get their big push around 30-35. If they stay healthy, they'll stay around and keep making money for themselves and the promotion they work for. It's realistic.

There were also developing younger stars right at the point of mega stardom, like Wolf Hawkins and Aaron Andrews, for a one company example. Just because you were familiar with them from past games doesn't mean there wasn't progression. There was even some regression.

Nicky Champion, Champagne Lover, Rocky Golden, Remo, etc., none of these workers were even 35 yet but all were superstars. I think you're just burned out with the C-Verse, and that's totally OK, but keep your perspective open. Someone booting up TEW 2016 as their first experience with the C-Verse might be fascinated with Bart Biggins and his history, and that's fine. They might be mad that their top star Jack Bruce only has a year or so left, and that's also fine. It's merely a snapshot of a larger wrestling world and will obviously be more fascinating to a newbie than someone who's been with it for 10+ years.

#8: Areas and regions

I've been asked to provide a breakdown of the areas and regions of the game world, so that will be today's entry.

Europe: Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Central Europe, Southern Europe, Southern Mediterranean, Iberia, Northern Europe, Russia

What is Northern Europe? Is that Iceland and Finland? Are the Baltic Countries also included?

What happened with France and Italy? Why was they removed? Couldn't countries like France and Germany have their own regions instead of being put together with other countries?

Is Russia just Russia or do the region include some other countries?

Which countries are included in Southern Europe and Southern Mediterranean?

I really prefer the regions in TEW2016 over the ones in TEW2020. Central Europe could have been split into BeNeLux and Germany/Austria (and possibly Switzerland). That would have very useful for historical real world mods.

What is Northern Europe?

There isn't a Northern Europe. The very next entry mentions that it was a typo and should have read "Western Europe".

What happened with France and Italy?

France is in Western Europe. Italy is in the Southern Med.

Couldn't countries like France and Germany have their own regions instead of being put together with other countries?

They could have, but then other countries would have either been left out or required a whole new region to be added.

Is Russia just Russia or do the region include some other countries?

It is just Russia.
