</p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

June was a heavy news month in American wrestling. In a move towards their aim of making USPW the first truly Global wrestling company, Reverie announced that they had expanded their coverage to cover the UK and Europe. Reverie believe this move will give USPW the edge over rivals the SWF & TCW. Not to be outdone the SWF responded by announcing the biggest signing of recent years, as they confirmed the signing of former TCW figurehead Rocky Golden. Golden is one of the biggest stars in North America and is a real coup for the company.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

There were a number of other signings announced during the month. The SWF added three workers to their development promotion, with Garry The Entertainer, Devyn Retribution & Xavi Ferrara all sent to RIPW for polishing. USPW bolstered their womens division by signing Joanne Rodriguez. Down in Mexico, SOTBPW announced the signing of Gino Montero. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

June was also a busy month closer to home. Bulldozer Brandon Smith & Art Reed confirmed that they would be going on the next PGHW tour. Selfishly I had been hoping Bulldozer would miss out again after being overlooked last tour, but now I would have to manage my new champions work load. There was better news, as Haley Buck and Miller Fforde announced they were dating. I didn't say it, but Fforde had probably just saved his job.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I walked into the Creative Meeting for June, and was a little unnerved as I was greeted by a smiling Larry Vessey. Bringing in the PSW Champion to lose to the NYCW Empire Champion... Larry loved it! I felt bad about doing it to the kid. I had overpaid him for his troubles, but Mitch Naess would be furious with him! I'd been expecting and instant reaction from Naess, but things had been fairly quiet from Pittsburgh. Naess had taken the title off of Youngman at their latest show, having him drop it to Madman Boone, but that was the only reaction so far. Larry wanted war, but I was hoping things would blow over. Was Naess going to let this go, or was it the calm before the storm?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

After being attacked by Honest Frank and Scythe after his title match at Brooklyn Bash, Bulldozer Brandon Smith has the chance to choose his partner to face Honest Frank and a partner of Frank's choice in tag team action! Who will Honest Frank & Bulldozer Brandon Smith choose as their partners? We all expected Honest Frank to send his “Dark Reaper” into battle with the Empire champion last month, but the veteran threw a curveball by selecting Ernest Youngman. Does Frank have another trick up his sleeve tonight, or will we see Scythe step into the ring with the Bulldozer for the first time? And after all of that, we have former World Heavyweight Champion Steve Flash battling former NYCW Empire Champion Art Reed for a COTT World Heavyweight title shot in August!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Elsewhere on the card, Animal Harker will be looking for revenge on Doctor O'Haire and his patient Prisoner No. 6. Having won the right to be ringside for his friend Jebediah's title shot against Prisoner No. 6 last month, Harker was attacked and taken out of that match. Can the 'Animal' gain his revenge, or will Prisoner No. 6 bounce back from the disappointment of his first loss by getting back to winning ways?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Jebediah will also make the first defence of his newly won Tri-State Regional title, as he faces of against one-half of the NYCW Tag Team champions, Howlin' Mad Mort. The Boys From Yukon have been patients of Doctor O'Haires for over a year, so Mort will be looking to gain revenge for his long time therapist.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Elsewhere on the card, The Ring Generals Open Challenge steps up a level as it is answered by a former SWF tag team. Steve Flash vs ”The Pure Athlete” Art Reed

[Winner receives a COTT World Heavyweight Championship shot at 'Uptown Beatdown']

The never won this championship usually is a babyface setup. With his Japan commitments would his body hold up? Flash is here and can still go. Still I like the character of Reed so I’ll go with him

Bulldozer Brandon Smith & ??? vs Honest Frank & ???

[bulldozer & Frank choose their own partners]

If Smith’s team wins it slows the momentum of either Frank or his likely partner Scythe. Whoever Smiths is will likely be the one to take the loss

Jebediah © vs Howlin' Mad Mort

[NYCW Tri-State Regional Title]

Jeb just won, don’t see the tag team guy getting a win here

A Former SWF Tag Team vs The Ring Generals w/ Haley Buck

[The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match]

Ok the tag team scene is getting a little stale. The NYCW Tag champs need someone to go against besides the team below. So I’m calling for the end of the challenge as we need the Generals back in the mix for the titles as well.

Animal Harker vs Prisoner No. 6 w/ Doctor O'Haire

This one in my mind is more complicated. The reason, I could see a rage DQ of the Prisoner here as his sessions with the Dr grow more intense. I stick with the safer pick but I have a feeling we are going to see a more violent patient

@miller_fforde vs Man Mountain Cahill

Saves his job by dating the hot manager of the top tag team. His prize, a severe beating

Brooklyn's Finest vs The Aces of Mayhem vs Old School Principals

reluctantly picking the aces here. OSP is on its last legs as I’m surprised Sanders can even climb in the ring. If Brooklyn’s Finest is indeed the best Brooklyn’s best, then Brooklyn is in deep trouble. But could there be an upset in the 3 way with the BF’s stealing a win and getting a shot (and loss) in a tag championship match.....hmmm

I’m probably way overthinking things here but this card has a lot of matches that could go either way

Steve Flash vs ”The Pure Athlete” Art Reed

I think you're still going to push Art super strong here.

Because he's eeeeevil.

Jebediah © vs Howlin' Mad Mort

You can have some fun with the tag partners in their shenanigans.

A Former SWF Tag Team vs The Ring Generals w/ Haley Buck

[The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match]

Honestly I'm thinking this is either Death Row or(more of a long shot) the DWB(though they're also CGC) though I'm much more likely to think Death Row. I've had some success with Death Row in the past being a good anchor for a team but they're a heel team naturally. If this is Death Row, I think this is another day, another check, and another win for Haley Buck's crew.

Animal Harker vs Prisoner No. 6 w/ Doctor O'Haire

The angry doctor and his angrier Prisoner unleash hell on poor Harker.

@miller_fforde vs Man Mountain Cahill

These two could actually make a really interesting dynamic for a feud. Miller keeps wanting bigger thrills from this mountain of a man. And this annoys the bully because he's not getting the intimidation he wants so he wants to beat it into him. It's a simple enough dynamic.

Brooklyn's Finest vs The Aces of Mayhem vs Old School Principals

Honestly, I really like Ace Youngblood in particular. He's almost the perfect NYCW middle of the card worker with how balanced he is with just a little investment in developing him just a little further. The bonus is he comes with an experienced tag team. This works. Maybe give them a trial run as the defacto number 1 babyface unit.

Rather than predict, I'm just gonna say that if Flash loses to Reed again he is dead and gone when it comes to looking competitive against him. Art's had his head on a platter multiple times.

Which I guess is my way of saying that if I was predicting, I'd be backing Flash to win, cause he's done as a top competitor for at least the rest of the year otherwise.

This was a fun match between two hugely experienced tag teams. The Dirty White Boys came into this one with one game plan in mind, to use their size advantage to dominate their opponents. However The Ring Generals had been in this game a long time, and were incredibly skilled technicians. That technical base allowed The Ring Generals to compete with their larger opponents and made this an incredibly even contest. The ultimate difference between these two teams proved to be the ring craft of The Ring Generals. While Grease Hogg's wild brawling style had earned him some success in the early goings of the match, The Ring Generals were eventually able to take advantage of Grease Hogg's impulse to always move forwards as Marv Statler dropped the top rope on the charging Hogg to send him spilling to the outside. This left the Ring Generals two-on-one with Lead Belly and they were able to delvier the Wheelbarrow Bomb to pick up an impressive victory over the former SWF tag team.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Post-match, Haley Buck got back on the microphone and declared that The Ring Generals had just proved once and for all that they were the greatest Tag Team in North America today! She declared that any team who thought differently - big or small, old or young, big name or unknown - were welcome to try and prove otherwise at 'Gang Wars'!</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">Next up an angry and notably title beltless Doctor O'Haire leads Prisoner No. 6 to the ring. The title belt is not the only thing missing from this scene, as Justice Jolson (O'Haire's other patient) is also notably absent. Once in the ring, O'Haire tells the crowd that last month opened his eyes to a few home truths. O'Haire said that as a man of science, if he saw a new truth he had to adjust and adapt to it. As such, he announced that effective immediately Justice Jolson would no longer be a part of his treatment program. While O'Haire still believed in the core of his treatment, it was time to admit that perhaps some people were beyond saving and that the program just wasn't working for Jolson. Doctor O'Haire gave Prisoner No. 6 a pointed look as he said that Justice Jolson just hadn't shown the behaviour improvement he would have expected during his treatment, and that if patients didn't show improvement in their behaviour they would be removed from the program and returned to New York Penitentiary.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

With that said, Doctor O'Haire said that the way he saw it there were two people who were to blame for what happened last month – Animal Harker & Riley McManus. Animal Harker's match with Justice Jolson had ruined the doctors perfect plan for the evening, and then Riley McManus' surprise return had embarrassed the Doctor. O'Haire warned Riley that nobody embarrasses the good doctor. He said that his prisoner would have the chance to rectify the situation with Animal Harker tonight, and once that was taken care with Riley should consider himself on notice.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Animal Harker had been able to defeat Doctor O'Haire's former patient Justice Jolson last month, but wasn't able to repeat the trick against Prisoner No. 6 this month. The inmate seemed to have re-discovered his vicious streak as he beatdown Animal Harker with forearm blows and heavy duty slams. Perhaps driven on by his doctors ruthless pisposal of Justice Jolson, Prisoner No. 6 brutalised his opponent. Animal Harker was barely able to stand by the time Prisoner No.6 delviered his Jail Break, and wasn't able to kick out.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

We had seen Prisoner No. 6 brutalise opponents after the bell before, and Harker looked to be about to become the inmates latest victim. However Riley McManus once again ran through the crowd to make the save. Riley hit the ring and managed to take Doctor O'Haire off his feet with a Lou Thesz Press before Prisoner No. 6 could react. Riley began wailing on the Doctor with big right hands, until Prisoner No. 6 hauled McManus off of his therapist. A big right hand from Prisoner No. 6 sent Riley to the mat, and was quickly followed by a Jail Break.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Riley McManus was down and out, and Doctor O'Haire stood over the former 90's enthusiast holding his jaw. As Doctor O'Haire and Prisoner No. 6 reach the curtain, they are met by Howlin' Mad Mort. Mort is a patient of Doctor O'Haire, a relationship that has worked wonders for The Boys From Yukon's success in the tag division. O'Haire hands Mort one of his cards, and the lumberjack nods in understanding at the Doctor. The Big Heavyweight was soon joined in the ring by the 6'11 Amish brawler Jebediah. </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The two Big Heavyweights went toe to toe throughout this one, each landing heavy strikes and throwing right hand bombs from the bell. Despite the heavy striking, both men struggled to take the opponent off of their feet. A big Clothesline from Howlin' Mad Mort staggered Jebediah, but the Tri-State Regional champion was able to hold his feet. A few minutes later a Jebediah Shoulder Tackle knocked Howlin' Mad Mort to a knee. Mort battled back, but a Headbutt from Jebediah took him down to a knee once again. With Mort down to a knee, Jebediah bounced off the ropes and delivered a Big Boot to knock the lumberjack to the mat. With Mort down, Jebediah was able to deliver his Sundown Splash to earn a hard fought victory.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ernie Turner is referring to Man Mountain Cahill, the man chosen by Doctor O'Haire to face @miller_fforde after the Instagrammer requested another big man to face for footage for his Instagram feed. Rock Downpour questions whether it was responsible of Doctor O'Haire to indulge Fforde's requests, but Ernie Turner points out that it's working... @miller_fforde's follower count had spiked ever since his first match with Doctor O'Haire's patient Prisoner No. 6. Whoevers responsibility it is to tell Fforde to stop, they should have stepped in before this match. Man Mountain Cahill destroyed his opponent, the former TCW star clearly enjoying beating down his smaller opponent. @miller_fforde barely raised any offence at all, but at least should have some good footage for the 'Gram as he was lifted high into the air for the Mountain Topper before crashing back to the mat.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Rock Downpour announced on commentary that this match was a number one contenders match, with the winners receiving an NYCW Tag Team Title shot at 'Gang Wars'. This match served to show that the tag division needed some new life breathed into it following the departure of Crockett Tubbs (and by default The Fighting Irish). This was a fast paced open contest that ended with The Aces Of Mayhem picking up the victory when Ace Youngblood hit a Tomahawk Chop on Rick Sanders. </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Involved: Honest Frank, Scythe, Bulldozer Brandon Smith & ???</span></div></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">Honest Frank grabs a microphone and tells the crowd that last month he proved once more that he was always one step ahead of the competition. Ernest Youngman may not have taken the NYCW Empire Title away from Brandon Smith, but that was never the plan. Youngman had hurt the Bulldozer and pushed him to his limits in a gruelling contest, and after Frank and his mystery partner do the same tonight – that can only give Honest Frank the advantage going into 'Gang Wars'! Speaking of his partner, Honest Frank tells us that while he may have thrown a curve ball last month he had no intention of repeating the trick this month. There was only one man he would want as his partner for a match of this magnitude, his “Dark Reaper” Scythe. Frank told Smith that it didn't matter who he picked, there was nobody on the NYCW roster who could measure up to his “Dark Reaper” and that was the 'Honest Truth'. </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

This drew out the NYCW Empire Champion, who already had a microphone in hand. Smith told Frank that he was surprised at how predictable the veterans choice of partner was. The Bulldozer admitted that he had been thrown by the surprise choice of Ernest Youngman last month, as he had been mentally preparing to face Scythe the entire night. Smith said that since Frank was 'playing it safe' this month, perhaps it was time for Smith to throw a curveball. With that Smith announced his mystery partner for the evening - “The Jackhammer” Joffy Laine!</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong> “Bulldozer” Brandon Smith & “The Jackhammer” Joffy Laine [vs] Honest Frank & “The Dark Reaper” Scythe</strong></div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Joffy Laine joined Bulldozer Brandon Smith, and the bubbly Texan and the Empire Champion sprinted down to the ring and got the jump on their unsuspecting opponents. The impromptu start to this match made it impossible for referee Matthew White to control the action. Bulldozer Brandon Smith went right after Honest Frank, but the wily veteran was able to slide out of the ring and draw the Empire Champion after him. This left Joffy Laine one on one with Scythe, and while “The Dark Reaper” had the size advantage when you get hit by “The Jackhammer” you feel it regardless of how big you are. Joffy Laine hammered away at Scythe for a few minutes, until Scythe was able to reverse the momentum with a Big Boot. Honest Frank was still using all of wits and experience to keep his distance from Brandon Smith, and he drew the Empire champion back into the ring... right into a huge Lariat from Scythe.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

This allowed Honest Frank and his “Dark Reaper” to gain control of the contest. Honest Frank paired off with Joffy Laine, while Scythe went to work on Bulldozer Brandon Smith. Honest Frank stomped away on Joffy Laine, while Scythe hammered away at Brandon Smith. However, Frank made a mistake as he started brawling with his Texan opponent. The veteran felt the full force of “The Jackhammer” as Laine whipped Frank into the corner and mounted the second rope to wail away on his opponent. Right! Left! Right! Left! Seeing Frank was in trouble, Scythe abandoned Brandon Smith in the opposite corner and hauled Joffy Laine off of his partner and delivered a huge Chokeslam! Unfortunately for “The Dark Reaper”, Bulldozer Brandon Smith was now behind him and delivered a huge German Suplex. </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Honest Frank's eyes went wide as he found himself two-on-one with the Bulldozer and the Jackhammer, so he did what any wrestler of his calibre would do... he bailed under the bottom rope. Bulldozer Brandon Smith tore after Honest Frank as he looked to escape through the crowd. Joffy Laine leant on the top rope as he watched the Empire Champion chasing his challenger at 'Gang Wars'. Shaking his head, Joffy Laine turned back to the ring and right into a second huge Chokeslam from “The Dark Reaper”. Seeing what had happened, Bulldozer Brandon Smith tried to make it back to break up the pin but couldn't get back in time. Referee Matthew White counted the three, and when the Bulldozer turned back to look for Honest Frank the veteran was long gone. The Bulldozer looked frustrated as he grabbed his title belt and slid into the ring to check on Joffy Laine.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

These two men always tear the house down when they step into the ring together, and this match was no exception. With the added stipulation of the winner receiving a shot at the COTT World Heavyweight Championship in August, the crowd really got into this one. Perhaps with the pressure of knowing this could be his last shot at earning a world title shot hanging over him, Art Reed came into this match very aggressively. It would turn out overly so, as Steve Flash was able to pick off “The Pure Athlete” as he charged into exchanges. Art Reed struggled to raise any sort of offence early on, and very nearly got caught out by a School Boy roll up that earned Flash a two-and-a-half.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Steve Flash stayed on top of Art Reed, using all of his experience to keep Art Reed from building up any momentum at all. A DDT earned Flash another near fall, before Flash began to utilise his mat skills to keep Art Reed pinned to the ground. Flash whipped Reed to the corner, and followed him with a Corner Clothesline. Reed staggered back to the middle of the ring, and Flash Irish Whipped his opponent and bent down for the Back Body Drop. Unfortunately Flash telegraphed it a little and earned a boot to the face for his troubles, before quick as a flash Reed landed a Superkick from nowhere. Quick as a flash, “The Pure Athlete” had transitioned into his feared Dread Lock. Steve Flash battled for as long as he could but eventually he had no choice but to tap out, meaning that, despite having next to no offence for the entire contest, Art Reed had become number one contender for the COTT World Heavyweight Championship.</div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

My Main Event is Heel heavy (4 Heels & 2 Faces), and I wanted to justify the World Title shot as I want to portray the COTT World Title as a big deal in this diary - which is why it's only been defended three times in nineteen months so far, and why it's been away from the show for eight months. I guess I kind of thought Flash could take the loss because he's Steve Flash, and he was Empire and World Champion for most of last year, but I can absolutely see your point - Art Reed has had his number, beating him three times in seven months. The other Main Event face is also Bulldozer who's my Champ, so I didn't want to job him out. Luckily the plan was always to move Flash into a new feud now, that can hopefully build him back up in time for when I next need him at the very top of the card. Hope this isn't a deal breaker for you, and I hope you can kind of follow my thinking in why I went this way.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><div style="background-color:#3361FF;color:black;border-style:solid;border-width:3px;box-shadow: #3393FF; margin:10px;background: #FFFFFF; max-width:60%;box-shadow: 0 6px 12px ";"></strong><strong><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Prediction Contest - Fifth Round Results</span></strong></strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> As always, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to read and predict this month! Our next show is 'Gang Wars', which is the final round of this prediction contest and there are four people still in the running! The card should be up tonight, and there will be a 'tiebreaker question' to split any tie at the top - as the main 'prize' I have in mind for this round can only really go to one person. </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> There was one perfect score this month from </strong><strong><strong>SIser187</strong></strong><strong>, which moves him within one point of the lead. <p>Ah, yeah, it totally wasn't a 'if Flash loses, I'm out!' kind of deal.</p><p> </p><p>

I can see logic behind Reed winning, I just think it sets Flash an incredibly long way back in terms of regaining his ability to headline and it means he needs even more rebuilding to look like a real contender again. Otherwise, Art's always just going to be able to be like 'yeah but I'm better than him' and be straight up <em>right</em>.</p><p> </p><p>

But I'm certainly still following along either way.</p>

NYCW July Creative Meeting

HXSuquI.jpgCk3d93F.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/KJgaKKY.jpg

The main news from the wrestling world during July came out of New England, as the SWF trimmed some of the fat from their roster. Both Lenny Brown and James Prudence were deemed surplus to requirements and allowed to leave, as of 'Gang Wars' both men are sat in unemployment. The other man to leave New England was not by the Eisen's choice, as SWF Main Eventer Rogue jumped ship to SOTBPW. Having lost three names in quick succession, many expect the SWF to bring in some fresh blood to try and turn the tide in their battle with USPW.

Within the COTT alliance, it was announced at the end of July that The American Cobras had been stripped of the COTT World Tag Team Titles after it was announced that Storm Spillane had signed exclusively with BHOTWG in Japan. Less than a week after the titles were stripped, 4C jumped at the chance to put the belt on two of their wrestlers – Mimic and Shiva. This move didn't go down too well with some members of the COTT alliance, as there were numerous better options but what was done was done.

Closer to home, Big Apple Brawl had been a phenomenal success! Checking online TotalExtremeWrestling.com had given the show a 'C' rating, the best we had achieved since I had taken over as booker. The Main Event between Art Reed and Steve Flash had really delivered, even if the loss had moved Steve temporarily down the card. There were two slight negatives coming out of the event though. Having thrown everything at it, we had made our first major loss in over a year – losing $1,475 on the show. Larry didn't like that. The teamwork between Honest Frank and Scythe in the co-Main Event tag match also left a lot to desired. Their lack of chemistry was a shame, as I had plans for them to team again that would need re-writing. All of that aside, the show had given us huge momentum heading into our biggest show of the year and I had high hopes for 'Gang Wars'...

NYCW Presents Gang Wars

Live from Tri-State Arena

Sunday W2 July2016

After months of dodging Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Honest Frank finally steps into the ring with his rival as he challenges for Smith's NYCW Empire Title inside a Steel Cage. A win would make Honest Frank a record five-time NYCW Empire champion, but with no option of calling on outside help can the veteran stay one step ahead of his opponent?

Another man looking for revenge at 'Gang Wars' is Riley McManus. Doctor O'Haire ruined the 1990's for Riley, before sending Prisoner No. 6 and Justice Jolson to beatdown the former 90's enthusiast when he refused the doctors request for help. At 'Gang Wars' Riley McManus faces Doctor O'Haire's patient Prisoner No. 6, who looks to reimpose himself as the dominant force in NYCW after losing his NYCW Tri-State Regional Title at 'Brooklyn Bash'.

'Gang Wars' will also see the latest installment of The Ring Generals Open Challenge. After Haley Buck's proclamation that her clients were the best tag team in North America today, the NYCW booking committee took it upon themselves to find suitable challengers for the biggest show of the year. The booking committee haven't released the identity of the team they have chosen, but have promised a tag team worthy of the stage. Can The Ring Generals continue their seemingly unstoppable march under manager Haley Buck, or will the NYCW booking committee have finally found the team to end their unbeaten run?

Elsewhere on the card, the NYCW Tag Team Titles will be on the line as The Aces Of Mayhem challenge The Boys From Yukon, and stars including Art Reed and Steve Flash will also make an appearance. Be sure not to miss NYCW's biggest night of the year!

No reason to go any other way

Riley McManus [vs] Prisoner No. 6 w/ Doctor O'Haire

Prisoner's a guaranteed hit for you but I think you need to keep him away from the top until the face side of the main event is more stable

[The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match]

At some point you're going to have to find a good face team to rebalance the division

The Aces Of Mayhem [vs] The Boys From Yukon

Coin-flip but I prefer the Aces

Steve Flash, Joffy Laine & Jebediah [vs] Team Canada (Philippe LaGrenier, Hugh Ancrie & Josh Jacobs)

[Gang Wars 3v3 Elimination Match]

Team Canada aren't bad but Steve's one of only two main-event faces, Jeb's on the verge of that and Joffy's another potential top star

Conner Threepwood [vs] “The Dark Reaper” Scythe

Whilst Conner has top face potential you can't bury ALL your heels

Announce Team:

Rock Downpour & Ernie Turner

Rock Downpour
and
Ernie Turner
invite us to 'Gang Wars'! The pair hype tonights Main Event that finally sees Honest Frank step into a ring one on one with Bulldozer Brandon Smith. Smith has been trying to get his hands on Honest Frank for months, with the veteran coming out victorious in two of their previous encounters due to outside interference. However, tonight the two men will be locked inside a steel cage with the only way to win being pinfall or submission. Can the veteran defeat the Bulldozer without outside help to become the first five-time NYCW Empire Champions? Will the Bulldozer finally run over Frank, or will the veteran prove once and for all that he is always one step ahead?

Blonde Highlights!

Involved: Haley Buck, The Ring Generals & The Can Am Blondes

'Gang Wars' opens with Haley Buck leading her clients to the ring, and it looks like we'll be kicking off the biggest show of the year with The Ring Generals Open Challenge! Haley Buck does not look happy as she tells the crowd that she was informed this month by the NYCW Booking Committee that they would be finding the team to challenge The Ring Generals this month, to ensure that they were 'worthy of the occasion'. Buck tells the crowd that it didn't matter who the Booking Committee had found, because her clients were the best tag team in all of North America. Her clients were unbeaten in over a year, and no matter who the Booking Committee had dug up – that would remain the case!

The identity of the team answering this months Open Challenge became clear as the
Can-Am Blondes
burst through the curtain. This was the first time the duo had wrestled outside of Canada, but the pair had been hugely successful during their tenure in NOTBPW – winning the Ed Hanson Memorial Tag Team Cup three times and being two time NOTBPW Tag Team Champions. The Can-Am Blondes were one of the premier tag teams in the entire world, and Haley Buck did not look happy to see them!

The Can-Am Blondes (The Natural & Owen Love) [vs] The Ring Generals (Dean Waldorf & Marv Statler) w/ Haley Buck

The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match

This was a fantastic contest between two hugely experienced teams, which really showed off all of the best elements of tag team wrestling. This match had been pencilled in for a few months, ever since The Natural was released by NOTBPW and it didn't disappoint. After a hot start by the Canadian veterans, Owen Love played the perfect babyface in peril as The Ring Generals cut the ring in half. After over a decade of teaming together, The Can-Am Blondes knew how to work a tag team match, and Owen Love made the hot tag to The Natural at the perfect time to pop the crowd.

The Natural hit the ring and dropped both members of The Ring Generals with Clotheslines, before grabbing Marv Statler by the head and dumping him over the top rope to the outside. Haley Buck looked concerned as The Natural rocked Dean Waldorf with a big Elbow. A Running Neckbreaker from The Natural dropped Waldorf, and The Natural looked to be in control as he bounced off the ropes looking to deliver a Running Knee to the rising Dean Waldorf. However, with the referee distracted by a brawling Owen Love and Marv Statler on the outside, Haley Buck grabbed the ankle of The Natural as he bounced off the ropes. The Natural staggered back into the middle of the ring, right into a Waldorf Salad Toss (Pop-Up Powerbomb) from Dean Waldorf. With Owen Love busy at ringside, there was no-one to break up the pin and The Ring Generals picked up the win – with a big assist from their manager Haley Buck.

Rating: C

Winners:
The Ring Generals

Finish:
Pinfall (Waldorf Salad Toss)

Notes: The Natural was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

</div>

Ernie Turner: “How did the referee miss that? Haley Buck blatantly tripped The Natural there!”

Rock Downpour: “He was distracted by the brawl between Owen Love and Marv Statler at ringside. The Can-Am Blondes may not have won the guaranteed contracts tonight, but I certainly hope this isn't the last time we see them in New York!”

Ernie Turner: “You've got that right Rocky! Those two would strengthen any tag division in the world!”

Steve Flash, “The Jackhammer” Joffy Laine & Jebediah [vs] Team Canada (Philippe LaGrenier, Hugh Ancrie & Josh Jacobs)

'Gang Wars' 3 vs 3 Elimination Match

The announcers hyped the traditional 'Gang Wars' rules of this match – 3 vs 3 Elimination rules match ups had been a staple of this event for years. The Old School style match up was complemented with an Old School set up – the American babyfaces taking on the Canadian heels. While so much in wrestling has changed, sometimes you just can't get away from the classics.

The Canadians had clearly identified Jebediah as their major threat in this match up, as the heels ganged up 3 on 1 on the 6'11 Amish Brawler from the first bell. However, this didn't last for long as Joffy Laine and Steve Flash piled in to assist their team mate and the match split into three one on one contests. Josh Jacobs found himself in the unenviable position of pairing up with Jebediah, and the MAW loanee didn't have nearly as much success now that he was alone with the Tri-State Regional Champion. Jacobs wasn't able to live with the power of Jebediah, and it didn't take long for the big Amish brawler to hit his Sundown Splash and eliminate Jacobs from the match.

Jebediah raised his arms in the middle of the ring, seemingly celebrating his victory. Apparantly nobody had explained the rules to the big Simpleton prior to the match and the Tri-State Regional Champion was caught completely by surprise as he was rolled up from behind by Philippe LaGrenier and his shoulders were down just long enough for the referee to count the three and even up the numbers.

This left Flash & Laine on one side, and the team of LaGrenier & Ancrie on the other. On commentary, Rock Downpour postulated that The Canadian Connection's experience of teaming together could give them the advantage here... but Rock Downpour hadn't accounted for the striking power of Joffy Laine. Hugh Ancrie was the man to feel the power of “The Jackhammer”, and was quickly reeling from another powerful right hand. As Ancrie looked to create distance between himself and the former FCW standout, he turned right into a Flash Bang from Steve Flash which reduced the contest to a two-on-one. LaGrenier battled bravely, and was even able to dump Joffy Laine out of the ring at one point, but the numbers game proved too much for him and Joffy Laine was able to hit the Death Spiral to win the match for the babyfaces.

Rating: D

Winners:
Steve Flash, Joffy Laine & Jebediah

Finish:
Pinfall (Death Spiral)

Notes: Josh Jacobs was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

</div>

Rock Downpour: “Steve Flash and Joffy Laine survive the 'Gang Wars' Elimination match!”

Ernie Turner: “Philippe LaGrenier put up a hell of a fight though Rocky!”

Rock Downpour: “Yes he did Ernie, and he pinned the Tri-State Regional champion in the process. Could that put LaGrenier at the front of the line for a title shot?”

Last Chance Saloon?

Involved: Art Reed

Next up a “The Pure Athlete” Art Reed came down to the ring. Art Reed wasn't in action tonight, but was out to hype his COTT World Heavyweight Championship shot next month at 'Uptown Beatdown'. Art Reed looked surprisingly pissed off considering he had earned his shot last month. Art Reed told the crowd that next month at 'Uptown Beatdown', after 16 years in the business he would finally receive his first World title shot... and it was about damn time! Reed told the crowd that he shouldn't have had to even face Steve Flash last month to earn his shot, he doesn't remember Flash having to earn his shot last year against Nicolas Lopez. But “The Pure Athlete” says he's used to it. He knew how the world worked. Some people had life handed to them on a plate, and others had to fight and scrap for every morsel that fell off that plate. Art Reed had always had to do things the hard way his entire career, and he knew that next month would probably be his only chance to become World Champion – and he didn't intend to blow it. He said it didn't matter who the champion was – whether it was still Donnie J, or if he lost it in the meanwhile. He could wrestle someone tall, small, fat, thing, black or blue. Whoever you put in front of “The Pure Athlete”, the match will always end the same way: because once he locks in the Dread Lock, everybody taps!

Segment Rating: B

</div>

Rock Downpour: “Art Reed seems focused Ernie, and a focused Art Reed is a dangerous Art Reed!”

Ernie Turner: “We've seen wrestler after wrestler tap out to that Dread Lock of his. If he locks it in next month, we will have a new World Champion Rocky. I don't care who he's facing!”

Rock Downpour: “I'm sure it's something that reigning COTT World Heavyweight Champion Donnie J is losing sleep over! Art Reed's COTT World Heavyweight Title shot will be our Main Event next month at 'Uptown Beatdown'.”

<div style="background-color:#3361FF;color:black;border-style:solid;border-width:3px;box-shadow: #3393FF; margin:10px;background: #33C4FF; max-width:60%;box-shadow: 0 6px 12px ";">

Conner Threepwood [vs] “The Dark Reaper” Scythe w/ Honest Frank

Despite competing in the nights Main Event, Honest Frank accompanied his “Dark Reaper” to the ring for this one. Conner Threepwood may be an excellent technician, but tonight he was no match for the explosive power of Scythe. The demon manhandled Threepwood and stopped the former tag team specialist from building much momentum at all. Threepwood resorted to rest holds and taking the match to the mat, but even these tactics didn't buy him much respite. Scythe rounded off a thoroughly impressive performance by hitting the Chokeslam to claim another victory in NYCW.

Rating: D+

Winner:
“The Dark Reaper” Scythe

Finish:
Pinfall (Chokeslam)

</div>

Rock Downpour: “Scythe continues to carve his way through the NYCW roster. The question is, who can stop this demonic figure?”

Ernie Turner: “I don't think many will be queuing up to try Rocky!”

Time to right a wrong

Involved: Honest Frank & Scythe

Following his “Dark Reaper's” impressive victory, Honest Frank grabs a mic. Frank tells the crowd that tonight they would see him make history and become the first five-time NYCW Empire Title. The veteran reminded us that it was a year to the day that he lost his last title to Steve Flash, and tonight he would right that wrong and prove once and for all that he is the greatest NYCW Empire Champion of All Time! Honest Frank reminds the crowd that he is always one step ahead – and that the Bulldozer has been wanting to get his hands on the veteran for months, but Frank had always been in control of the situation – and it was Frank's choice that the fight be tonight. Frank says that he keeps being asked if he's worried about being locked inside a cage with the Bulldozer, but Frank says that Brandon Smith should be worried about being locked inside a cage with him. Frank has had months to watch the Bulldozer's matches and the veteran has seen something and, as always, has a plan to make sure he was one step ahead. And once he had defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Honest Frank had his “Dark Reaper” to ensure that Frank's fifth reign would be the greatest championship reign in NYCW history, and that was “the honest truth”!

Rock Downpour: “Confident words from Honest Frank ahead of tonights Main Event, but can the former four-time NYCW Empire champion go toe to toe with the “Bulldozer” Brandon Smith?”

Ernie Turner: “Brandon Smith isn't a man you want to find yourself locked in a cage with, and with no outside help you have to wonder what Honest Frank has planned to even the odds tonight?”

The Aces Of Mayhem (Ace Youngblood & Max Mayhem) [vs] The Boys From Yukon (Howlin' Mad Mort & Whitehorse Whittaker) ©

NYCW Tag Team Title Match

Much to the chagrin of Rock Downpour on commentary, the NYCW Tag Team Champions are joined at ringside for this one by their therapist Doctor Michael O'Haire (who naturally walks down to the ring with a Tag Title belt draped over each shoulder). The Aces Of Mayhem were still the last team to defeat The Boys From Yukon in tag team action, but that victory was now over a year ago and pre-dated the lumberjacks work with Doctor O'Haire.

The early stages of this match resembled these teams last meeting back in January, with The Boys From Yukon using their size and power advantage (and some timely interjections from Doctor O'Haire at ringside) to stay on top of their plucky opponents. However, the pace of the match changed entirely as Max Mayhem finally managed to escape the clutches of Howlin' Mad Mort after being trapped in The Boys From Yukon's corner for a few minutes and make the tag to Ace Youngblood.

The fresh Youngblood hit the ring and Tomahawk Chops were flying everywhere. With both members of the Tag Champions down, the Native American let out a traditional war call as he looked to set up the finish. Sensing Youngblood was on a roll, Doctor O'Haire hopped up onto the apron to try and inteject in the match... and ate a Tomahawk Chop for his efforts! The crowd loved seeing the Doctor crashing to the outside, but his interference had given The Boys From Yukon enough time to recover and a Ace Youngblood turned back to the ring he turned right into a Tiiiiiiiiiiimber! With Max Mayhem still down and out, there was nobody to break up the pinfall.

Winners:
The Boys From Yukon

Finish:
Pinfall (Tiiiiiiiiiiimber)

Notes: The Boys From The Yukon make defence number 4 of their NYCW Tag Team titles.

Rock Downpour: “Doctor O'Haire once again the deciding factor in a title match. Somebody's got to stop this man, he's slandering the proud history of NYCW and it's title belts.”

Ernie Turner: “Here comes a man who's looking to do just that Rocky! Doctor O'Haire ruined the 90's for Riley McManus, and he's out for revenge!”

Riley McManus [vs] Prisoner No. 6 w/ Doctor O'Haire

This was Riley McManus' first match since January, after an attack from Doctor O'Haire's patients Prisoner No. 6 and Justice Jolson had put Riley on the shelf for months after Riley failed to 'hold up his end of the bargain' in a one sided agreement with the Doctor. You could see the months of frustration pouring out of Riley, as the normally technically minded grappler launched at his much larger opponent from the first bell. Unfortunately for Riley, getting into a brawl with the vicious, ultra physical Prisoner No. 6 is never a good idea and the Georgia native soon found himself overwhelmed by the inmate.

Suffering his first loss seems to have somehow unlocked an even more violent streak in Prisoner No. 6. The inmate beat Animal Harker to a bloody pulp last month at 'Big Apple Brawl', and Riley suffered a similar fate here. After letting his rage get the better of his game plan, Riley was never able to get back into this one and Prisoner No. 6 was toying with his opponent by the end. This almost cost the inmate as Riley surprised him with a School Boy roll up for a two count, but this only angered the Prisoner more and he hit his Jail Break for the win.

Rating: C

Winner:
Prisoner No. 6

Finish:
Pinfall (Jail Break)

Rock Downpour: “Another brutal beatdown from Prisoner No. 6 tonight Ernie.”

Ernie Turner: “I know Riley wants revenge on Doctor O'Haire for ruining the 90's, but perhaps going through Prisoner No. 6 isn't the smartest way to do it?”

Rock Downpour: “Oh no, I don't think this is over...”

Over in a Flash!

Involved: Prisoner No. 6, Doctor O'Haire, Riley McManus & Steve Flash

Things looked bad for Riley, as Prisoner No. 6 peeled the Georgia native back up off the mat. McManus had only just returned from a long injury lay off following a beatdown from Prisoner No. 6, and it looked like he could be set for another! Fortunately Steve Flash came running out from the back! Doctor O'Haire saw Flash coming, and somewhat surprisingly called off his Prisoner. Flash slid into the ring and stood protectively over Riley as the Doctor and his patient backpedalled towards the curtain.

Steve Flash grabbed a microphone and told Doctor O'Haire that he'd been noticing over the past year and a half that things weren't quite the same here in NYCW, that something had felt off. The 50-year-old said that he hadn't quite been able to put his finger on what had changed, but he told Doctor O'Haire that he'd been watching him particularly closely over the past few months and he'd finally worked out what was wrong with NYCW - you! The Doctor looked shocked as Flash told the doctor that he'd been in this business a long time, and he'd seen guys like him before. He knew how they operated, and he knew that they were poison.

Flash reminded the Doctor that last month he'd dropped Justice Jolson from his treatment program for 'bad behaviour', all while his Prisoner was walking around assaulting people after matches and injuring people like Riley McManus. Flash said that if anybody needed to look at their behaviour it was the Doctor! Flash said that doctors were meant to help people, but he'd seen what O'Haire had done to Miller Fforde. Setting him up against bigger and bigger opponents each week until Fforde broke as Cahill injured the Instagrammer last month. Flash told Doctor O'Haire that he had his eye on him, and that things were going to change around here.

The crowd popped as Doctor O'Haire led his patient to the back, calling back to Steve Flash that the veteran had “never seen anything like me before” as he pushed through the curtain. The fifty-year-old helped Riley McManus to his feet in the ring, and the two babyfaces shook hands in the middle of the ring. Were we seeing the start of a new alliance against Doctor O'Haire and his Prisoner?

Rock Downpour: “We asked for someone to stand up to Doctor O'Haire and his prisoner, and could we have asked for anyone better than the “Remarkable” Steve Flash?”

Ernier Turner: “Steve Flash IS NYCW, who better to save it from the Doctor?”

“Bulldozer” Brandon Smith © [vs] Honest Frank

NYCW Empire Title Match

This was a match that we had been building towards for over a year, ever since Frank defended his title against Bulldozer via interference from a masked figure (who was later revealed to be Scythe) all the way back in March 2016. Now Brandon Smith was the champion, and the two men were surrounded by four walls of steel to ensure that there would be no repeat of the two matches that had been decided by outside forces.

On paper, without outside help Honest Frank should be at a disadvantage against the Bulldozer. Brandon Smith was younger, bigger and stronger than his veteran opponent, and certainly looked it in the early stages as he threw Frank around the ring with heavy-duty Japanese-style Suplexes and Slams. However, one thing Honest Frank does have on his side is trickery and foresight. Knowing that the only way Cage matches could end was via Pinfall or Submission, Frank delivered a wince inducing low blow to drop the champion to his knees. Referee Matthew White was furious, but there was nothing he could do. Matthew White became even more incensed as Honest Frank pulled a pair of Brass Knuckles from his tights and wrapped them around his fist. This was obviously the plan Frank had referred to earlier in the night, and the veteran circled the champion as Brandon Smith slowly struggled back to his feet. Frank aimed a punch at the champions head, but the Bulldozer caught the Brass Knuckle laden fist in his right hand! Honest Frank looked shocked as Brandon Smith was able to pull the Brass Knuckles clean off his fist and launch them over the top of the cage! Honest Frank knew he was in trouble now, and immediately began begging for mercy from Brandon Smith – who still had hold of the veterans now Brass Knuckle-less fist.

The Empire champion seemed to consider Frank's pleads for mercy for a moment, before pulling the veteran into a big Lariat to take the challenger off his feet. Without his Brass Knuckles, Honest Frank seemed at a loss of what to do and in desperation went for a second Low Blow, but Brandon Smith saw this one coming and was easily able to block it. The champion hoisted Honest Frank into position for the Tombstone Piledriver, and with a look of immense satisfaction drove the veteran into the mat. Smith made the cover and
finally
got the victory over his long time rival.

Winner:
Bulldozer Brandon Smith

Pinfall (Tombstone Piledriver)

Notes: Bulldozer Brandon Smith makes defence number 2 of his NYCW Empire title.

Rock Downpour: “Brandon Smith wins! After a year of trying to force Honest Frank to face him one on one, the Bulldozer finally gets his revenge!”

Ernie Turner: “Honest Frank always comes into a match with a plan, but this one blew up in his face! As soon as he lost those Brass Knuckles he knew he was in trouble!”

Rock Downpour: “I don't think Honest Frank will be through tormenting the Bulldozer though. Frank may have lost tonight, but he's still got his “Dark Reaper” who I'm sure will be out for revenge!”

<p>Congrats Jameschaos on winning the prediction contest. My risky picks of Riley and the Aces didn’t pan out. Well played on your part.</p><p> </p><p>

On the upcoming roster shake up or out, I’m curious to see who became available. Did Tennessee William flame out of SWF development or wherever he signed. Getting back together with the Animal would be interesting in the tag division.</p>

<p>I suppose it depends on whether your bottom line can afford the production values.</p><p> </p><p>

You seem to be consistently outperforming your pop, but how badly are any regional battle losses affecting you in turn?</p><p> </p><p>

It's a combination of all those three to take into consideration imo, but so far your main events have carried your show grades even with the penalties.</p>
