<p>Haven't looked at all of them - don't know who most of them are! - but is there any reason that Twitch Europe is free to air and the rest of Twitch have to pay? <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Twitch should be free-to-air IMO, because you don't HAVE to pay to get access to content. It's no different to Youtube in that regard.</p><p> </p><p>

I totally understand why you've set YouTube and Twich up in different regions, gameplay wise that makes perfect sense (so that you can have TV in one region and Twitch in another). I would argue though that in the real world, it wouldn't work. AFAIK you're not able to block Twitch broadcasts per country are you? And if you are, getting around it is so easy that it's basically as if you didn't bother. So nobody will agree to pay for your TV show if people can get it free on the internet. But like I said, from a gameplay standpoint I get why you've done it that way.</p><p> </p><p>

ITV 2-4 would be Cable, no? You can't get them on "terrestrial" TV, although I fully concede that barely anyone actually uses literal terrestrial TV now, so if you wanted Freeview and stuff to count as Terrestrial I won't argue. Although having said that, if we're counting Freeview as Terrestrial, Dave is therefore Terrestrial too (just noticed Dave aren't actually on the list).</p><p> </p><p>

You seem to be missing the entire BBC?</p>

<p>ESPN+ would likely be online subscription (it’s mostly available via apps as opposed to trad cable.) But they also do UFC PPVs separate as a purchase on top of the subscription fee, which is tricky.</p><p> </p><p>

NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX should all be terrestrial commercial, and their smaller channels cable.</p>

<p>I would be careful with anything listed as free-to-air. I ran into this myself yesterday when looking at broadcasters and will probably add something to the Mod Conversion Checklist thread. When you look at broadcasters in Wikipedia, many will be listed as "free to air". But in TEW terms, that means they are terrestrial. As in, you don't need a cable package to get them. I checked the first one on your list, 10 Bold, which I throught was a sports channel in Australia. It is and sure enough, Wikipedia lists it as free-to-air, but that's almost never going to be the case for a sports channel. </p><p> </p><p>

Free-to-air in TEW terms means they are not going to be able to pay for content. Its a public broadcaster like PBS, where anyone can get anything on if they produce it themselves and provide it to the channel. Not all publicly-funded broadcasters fall under this - BBC doesn't, CBC doesn't, etc. But TEW free-to-air channels don't make money from commercials so they won't pay for content.</p>

Fully agreed, whilst the BBC would usually be considered free to air, as they don't run commercials, in TEW terms this would make them a really poor broadcaster to be signed to financially (though still good for popularity), which doesn't make sense. So Terrestrial Commercial makes the most in-game sense, despite not being completely accurate.

Thanks for the input lads, iv got a good amount of editing to crack on with.

Its not THAT bad once you get rolling with it. I started tackling this yesterday with the 2013 mod I'm working on. I had a few hours of mod time yesterday and managed to get most of the Mexico-based broadcasters done. Added in short bios from them even.

Honestly, with the internet-based ones a new addition, I think these might take some experimentation. Like D-Lyrium says, breaking down YouTube might be 100% accurate but it seems like it might be the st best way to make it work in the game-world. Looking at the Cverse, the wrestling-focused Internet sub service is broken down regionally. Probably going to take some long-term soak tests and tweaks to find out the ideal settings for some of these broadcasters.

There might even be an argument for the BBC to be Terrestrial Subscription given the nature of TV licenses

On Twitch you have to pay a monthly subscription for some companies, like AAA.

Unrelated to that, one thing that is annoying is that platforms like DAZN and Fite are set worldwide. I can't air Dynamite on Fite because in the game it covers all the areas. But IRL, the whole non-american/canadian/british world watches Dynamite on Fite (or free streams ;) ). I think the best option would be to make all platforms restricted to one area (ex.: Fite UK, Fite Europe, Fite Russia etc)

Kind of, I guess, but since it's illegal to watch TV without a license, you'd have to account for ITV and C4 technically being subscription too, too complicated :p

Oh, cool. So there's a paywall option to access the content now? That's cool.

Internet subscription works fine then.

Most AAA I watch on Twtch is free. I know subscribers can watch it on replay, which non-subs cannot. But I don't know if there is additional content for subscribers….? Honestly, Twitch is kinda halfway in between because while the content creator can sub-lock the broadcast, so that only subscribers can view it at all, it seems like fairly few do that.
