Building Momentum

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have any good tips on how to revive someone who seems to be stuck on Ice-Cold Momentum? I have several workers stuck on ice-cold, I tried changing their gimmicks, turning them face/heel and even teaming them with someone more popular and I still can’t seem to make them rebound back to even chilly momentum.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I assume you're having them win matches as well?

It's tough and takes a really long time once it's slipped that far. First, you have to reverse the trend (hidden momentum value) with a long streak of wins (as mentioned, against notable competition when possible) and then continue booking them strong beyond that to get the actual, visible value to improve.

You should really avoid letting people get that low unless you're planning to fire/turn them.

I would also suggest having them "win" in angles, too, and keeping track of their angle and match wins through the storylines screen. And use Keep Strong in matches in some situations at first to not get in a situation when to fix someone you have to tank someone else's momentum, leading to the same exact situation.

They need to be winning against recognizable or better workers to build good momentum from what I've seen.

Seems like the simplest idea, but it didnt work for me. Randy savage was in a great tag team with Hogan and was managed by Cornette. I made them tag champs, I got them several title defenses and savage picked up several single matches wins over well known and recognizable guys.

But he was still ice cold. His tag team partner and and manager? White hot. Neither could do wrong. I pushed savage and hogan super hard for 3 straight months. They got the goldberg treatment.

I just couldn't get savage over. Hogan and cornette are major stars now. I sent savage to my developmental company.

I already posted in the Tech Forum, that I think something is broken with momentum.

It seems that non-popular workers, can't pick up momentum, even with wins.

And managers or Personalities, go on cold rather easy, even being placed in great angels.

Win STreaks hardly matter, I seen people with losses go to hot and people with win streaks go on cold.

It should, but doesn't.

Indeed, leaving them off-screen seems to make momentum colder (hence the issue with road agents and the like).

Unfortunately, it's a problem which has carried over from 2016. You could even send people away to development for months, and they'd still come back with their poor momentum.

I think it is a lot more nuanced then people give credit for. I have workers losing constantly getting hot momentum but that is because they are involved in a hot storyline. I have not seen problems with managers cooling off but they're being used every show. Great angles are also helping with the momentum.

One thing I've noticed is there is a concept of short term and long term momentum. If you give a guy a loss here and there, not much happens. If they lose two or three times in a row though it spikes them HARD.

Whether it's meant to work this way or not I don't know but I've found that just using the storyline change note in angles helps boost momentum regardless of whether people are in storylines or not. . Obviously booking them strongly also aids the process but I have very few people with poor momentum in my games by just making sure the those who's momentum I'm trying to improve are set to be successful in angles. .

Angles. Lots of angles. Angles were they're in the segment with someone who is stronger (entertainment skills and/or popularity). Doesn't have to be a 'This Is Your Life' type angle either. I have people at the bottom of the card with 'hot' momentum because, in addition to working preshow matches and angles, they occasionally work angles on the main show with people higher up the card. Here (thumbnails, click to enlarge):

Joy & Juliet are a tag team (The Beautiful People) who, in addition to contending for the tertiary (read: preshow) tag titles, also occasionally perform in angles on the main show, rated on sex appeal (for them) where they do the 'mean girls'/"Piggy James" thing on people higher up the card. They've done it to Tex-Mex, they've done it to Modesty Pador, and paired with a good heel color commentator (J.Ro or Grace Harper, for example) and short-term storylines (say, from one monthly event to the next), it can really help push momentum up.

Viper & Maisie are a tag team (obv) that also contends for the tertiary tag titles but they just beat people up for seemingly no reason at all. 2-3 mins of beating people up every other show, as well as preshow hype angles and matches, seems to have gotten them pretty hot.

Other people are hot because of the stable they're in or who they're otherwise associated with. I should note that I run a 'main event focus' match focus and 'highlights' angle focus, so that frees me up to run "nothing" angles and matches on the main show to get my youngsters trained up. Once I have my three strong angles and main event match, everything else is open.

Do you use the "success" option like Bull was using or just booking them in angles, period.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I have a set of angles I've created that do have those storyline adjustments, yes. The low card workers are not always in (main show) storylines but it's nothing to add them to an existing storyline (as support) if they're going to job to someone higher on the card and then remove them after they've served their purpose. For example, adding Maisie and Viper to the midcard tag title storyline and then they beat up the Neptune Twins (one of the contenders for the titles) before getting beaten by them in a match the following week. Yes, the Neptunes will take a 'defeat' when they get beaten up but they get their wind back when they challenge the heels to a match and again from their prematch promo. But even without those storyline success indicators, just being in successful angles ('successful' being rated higher than their current momentum and/or popularity) can help pump up momentum and popularity.</p>

Is there an "official" description of the momentum system in the Player's Handbook somewhere? I haven't found anything. (Really missing a search function in there...)

Alternatively, has an overview of the possible momentum stages been posted somewhere with the correct ordering from cold to hot?
