Pro Wrestling NOKORI held its first event ever today in Tokyo at the famed Ryogoku KFC Hall (Kokusai Fashion Center, not the chicken!). The five matches on the card energized the crowd and excited them for the future of NOKORI. Rob Edwards and Quick Kick Nakao saw great results in their first ever match as a team. Their chemistry was noticed by everyone watching and a future unit could be in the cards for them. The main event saw the SAISHO trio fall to the home team as Danjuro Kikuchi submitted Jayson Van Pelt with his patented Stepover Leg Bar! Post-match, SAISHO Destiny Champion Zeshin Makioka took to the mic and claimed that tomorrow night, SAISHO will stand tall in the main event!

Thank you all for predicting! Honestly I was worried about the engagement for a small puro company like this, especially coming off of the AEW diary, but I'll take this any day! I spent a long time trying to come up with a good format for these tour shows. I took inspiration from a lot of people, and came up with what I think is unique enough to this diary now. The two main inspirations that I would like to credit are dean from his incredible Big Japan Pro-Wrestling diary, and CGN91 for his amazing long-running White Canvas Grappling diary! They both follow the PUROLOVE.com format, which is an amazing site that keeps me up-to-date with puroresu results.

The lack of Taheiji Konoe makes me sad.

Great start, I've always had a soft spot for Japanese CV and with CGN's excellent WCG run and this should keep my interest in the region.

The bright side of doing this the way I'm doing, I can have a very nice rotating door of talent. MHero wants Da Booga Man, you want Konoe, so I can definitely add them in for a tour or two if the demand is there :)

Love it! Surprised NOKORI got the first win here and Kikuchi made Van Pelt tapped. I would have bet that Kato would make the pinfall or submission win. Interesting! Nevertheless Kato versus Makioka could be the match to book down the road for the inaugral title or something like that.

The second night of NOKORI's Commencement 2020 kickoff events took place last night, and what a show it was! 53 year-old Takeshi Utemaro got the win for his team in the opener by submitting young boy Taiji Chajima, while Quick Kick Nakao and Rob Edwards showed off an array of tag team maneuvers in their six-man tag victory over Black Canvas Grappling's Team Taku and NOKORI young boy Sam Copland. Despite his team losing in tag team action, Masashi Urogataya received large applause from the Tokyo crowd! In the main event, Zeshin Makioka's claim that Team SAISHO would win came to fruition, as the SAISHO Destiny Champion himself pinned Danjuro Kikuchi after a Brainbuster!

Little more difficult this time! The next course of action here is the post-show press conference that I will hopefully have up within 24 hours. NOKORI's next tour will be announced and I think some of you puroheads will be pleasantly surprised!

PRO WRESTLING NOKORI ANNOUNCES FIRST TOUR

Pro Wrestling NOKORI founder and president Danger Kumasaka held a press conference with Tokyo Sports Press today to announce NOKORI’s first official tour.

Kumasaka announced that the first tour will be the inaugural
NOKORI Immortal Grand Prix
to crown the first ever
NOKORI Heavyweight Champion
. The round-robin tournament will consist of two blocks of six participants each, with the winners of each block facing him off in the finals in Tokyo to crown the first champion. The tournament will take place over the course of five nights before the final. After making this announcement, he introduced the twelve wrestlers who will be taking part in the tournament.

BLOCK A

Bunrakuken Torii | Danjuro Kikuchi | Eikichi Itou | Morimasa Kato | Rob Edwards | Sotatsu Sarumara

Block A includes Bunrakuken Torii, a Black Canvas Grappling representative. The other five members are signed to NOKORI and will look to set themselves apart from the others early into the promotion’s existence. A strong run in the Immortal Grand Prix will set them up for future success.

BLOCK B

Brother Yoshitaka | Kyuichi Matsumoto | Lion Genji | Masashi Urogotaya | Omezo Shikitei | Quick Kick Nakao

Lion Genji returns to represent Pro Wrestling SAISHO in the tournament. He is joined by five other wrestlers who will represent NOKORI and fight to win the block to go to the finals and be crowned the first-ever NOKORI Heavyweight Champion.

After introducing the participants, Danger Kumasaka opened the floor for questions from the wrestling media in attendance. Here are the questions and answers from that:

<hr color = green>
Name
: Scott [sco xY2Jx]

Publication
: Scottish Wrestling Magazine

Subject
: Rob Edwards

Question
: As the only Gaijin announced for the tournament, how important is it for you to give a good account of yourself? You're also in a tournament with a lot of heavy, hard-hitters, like yourself. Do you feel your kick-boxing background will prove less advantageous than hoped?

Answer
: I am the only kickboxer on this stage. These men do not know how to defend against my style. I am in a foreign land in Japan. I have been honing my discipline in my home country of Australia for years now. I am here in Pro Wrestling NOKORI to make my name on the international stage. My style will prove to be the difference when I win the Grand Prix and become NOKORI Heavyweight Champion.

Name
: Scott [sco xY2Jx]

Publication
: Scottish Wrestling Magazine

Subject
: Bunrakuken Torii

Question
: With as many accolades as you already have to your name via BCG, do you consider yourself a favourite to be crowned the first NOKORI champion? Where would it rank in your accomplishments in your career?

Answer
: I am here to represent Black Canvas Grappling. Not only am I a two-time BCG World Champion, but I am also a two-time Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix winner as well. That means I have the strength and endurance to not only succeed in this tournament, but to come out on top as the champion.

Name
: Scott [sco xY2Jx]

Publication
: Scottish Wrestling Magazine

Subject
: Brother Yoshitaka

Question
: It would be fair to say that your career has perhaps not gone as well as hoped and your accomplishments severely lacking for someone with your experience? How important is it to you to be a part of this tour and tournament?

Answer
: I have had a good career. It may not have been in Burning Hammer, Golden Canvas or PGHW, but I have had a good career working wherever I want, whenever I want. I am the Warrior Monk and I am ready to be crowned NOKORI Heavyweight Champion.

Name
: Nathan Brock [Historian]

Publication
: Midwest Puro Weekly

Subject
: Omezo Shikitei

Question
: Success has eluded you throughout your career thus far despite being widely regarded as a world class technician. What do you plan to do in the Grand Prix to elevate your name in the world of wrestling?

Answer
: You have it backwards, Brock. I am elevating the Grand Prix by being a part of it. True wrestling fans know what I am capable of. I will come out on top.

Name
: James [CGN91]

Publication
: German Wrestling Insight

Subject
: Morimasa Kato

Question
: First SAISHO and now BCG. What are your thoughts about outside talent at NOKORI shows?"

Answer
: I don’t give a damn where they come from. They know that they won’t last in the ring with me. The next time you see me here talking to you, I’ll be holding the title over my shoulder.

Name
: James [CGN91]

Publication
: German Wrestling Insight

Subject
: Danjuro Kikuchi

Question
: You received a loss at the last show. Did your self-confidence get a crack? How will you bounce back?

Answer
: It’s better to get the loss out before the Grand Prix. I was pinned yes, but now I know what that feels like in a NOKORI ring. I know that that is a bad feeling. My losses are learning moments and they will teach me how to win.

Name
: James [CGN91]

Publication
: German Wrestling Insight

Subject
: Eikichi Itou

Question
: As a younger competitor, what are your goals in your block?

Answer
: To win. I am younger, stronger, tougher and more competitive. Age does not matter.

Name
: James [CGN91]

Publication
: German Wrestling Insight

Subject
: Masashi Urogotaya

Question
: What are your thoughts being in the same bock as Yoshitaka after having two matches recently against him?

Answer
: I look forward to that match. Our meetings so far have been memorable to me. He is a tough SOB, there is a reason he is called the Warrior Monk.

Name
: Michael Queen [falling_star]

Publication
: Falling Star Puro Report

Subject
: Rob Edwards

Question
: You started off your NOKORI career by teaming up with Quick Kick Nakao in tag team and six-man action, what do you have to say about the prospect of facing him in this tournament?

Answer
: Nakao and I have been a good team so far. We have won both of our matches together and I hope to team with him in the future. That being said, we are in opposite blocks and I would love to meet him in the finals to crown our first champion. I’ll be ready.

<hr color = green>To close out the press conference, Danger Kumasaka informed us that the complete schedule for the Immortal Grand Prix will be released in the coming days.

<p>I need to focus in which year NOKORI is, because of WCG i'm still thinking it's 2016-18 and why the hell is Daltong putting Itou in such a grand prix? lol. I loved the press conference and i'm glad they have been so many different questions from different users.</p><p> </p><p>

Hope the schedule will give a bit of an insight who could be a serious threat in their respective blocks. Block A looks way more stack so it's not that easy to predict. Kato would be my obvious choice there right now.</p>

Pro Wrestling NOKORI is saddened to learn of the passing of Sadaharu Jimbo.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sadaharu Jimbo is a legend of professional wrestling. He was born in November 1941 and debuted shortly after his 18th birthday in 1959. He was a mainstay in Golden Canvas Grappling, winning the GCG World Heavyweight Championship on a total of four occasions. His first reign began when he was just 23 years old, and he would go on to hold the title for over four years. He would regain the title three years later in January 1972, and would again have a long title reign by defeating all challengers until December 1976, almost five years later. Two more two-year title reigns would bring his grand total of time as champion to around fourteen years total. His last title reign would only end due to a career-ending back injury.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The first twenty years of his in-ring career was defined by what many consider the greatest feud in the history of puroresu: Jimbo vs. Furusawa. Jimbo and his counterpart Hanshiro Furusawa sold out arenas across Japan for decades, with the two trading the GCG World Heavyweight Championship in its early days. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Five and a half years after retiring, Sadaharu Jimbo made the massive move to start his own wrestling promotion: Pride Glory Honor Wrestling. Priding itself on its “Royal Road” philosophy, the company forever changed pro wrestling with its gruelingly long matches, dangerous suplexes and all around brutal style. The promotion was the first to challenge the chokehold Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods had on wrestling in Japan since BHOTWG came out on top of a war with Golden Canvas Grappling in the 80s. Since its inception, PGHW has been the stomping grounds for many legends, including Yoshimi Mushashibo, Mito Miwa, Shuji Inukai, Eisaku Kunomasu, Eisaku Hoshino, PRIDE Koiso and Dread. Jimbo handed over the reigns to the company to then-booker, PGHW legend Nobuatsu Tatsuko in 2014. PGHW is a huge part of wrestling today, drawing huge attendances nationwide, including hosting over 21,000 people last month at Night of RESPECT, main evented by Jimbo’s own son, Seiji Jimbo, retaining the Glory Crown over Magnum Kobe.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Although Sadaharu Jimbo and Hanshiro Furusawa both left an indelible mark on puroresu, the legacy they are each most proud of is their sons: Seiji Jimbo and Mabuchi Furusawa. The second-generation wrestlers are now stars in their respective promotions: Seiji is the reigning PGHW Glory Crown Champion, and Mabuchi Furusawa held the BCG World Championship from December 2018 to October 2019. The two are among the best wrestlers in the world today, thanks to the training and tutelage from their fathers. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sadaharu Jimbo’s impact on professional wrestling cannot be understated. The man was respected both in and out of the ring.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"></span></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:10px;"> </span></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div><p></div></p></div><p></p>

Big match up here for me is the hardened Sarumara vs the legit kickboxing champion in Rob Edwards. Backing the Australian obviously but a hard striking affair to kick off the night.

Giving a final tally...

Block A:

S. Sarumara llll

R. Edwards lll

M. Kato lll

B. Torii lll

E. Itou l

D. Kikuchi l

Block B:

M. Urogotaya lllll

B. Yoshitaka lll

Q. Nakao lll

K. Matsumoto ll

O. Shikitei ll

L. Genji

Again I know nothing about Japan, so purely going off what was written about them and their records previously. Though I am hyping up Brother Yoshitaka and QKN and Rob Edwards who all surprisingly end up with 3 wins.

Oh and why does Masashi go on a streak. Because he looks bad ass.

I love the thought you put into this! I appreciate you adding some insight into why you chose a victor here and there. I so badly want to respond to each part but I can't yet! Nevertheless I think you'll end up liking the end result :p

Thank you for predicting! You went for a couple upsets, I like that!!

Any round-robin format is always a crap-shoot. Especially with a roster as eclectic and varied as this and looking at HiPlus' predictions, we're opposed on about 60% of the picks.. All I know is I'm backing Torii for the whole thing!

Pro Wrestling NOKORI kicked off its first-ever Immortal Grand Prix tonight in Yokohama. It was a great night of action as the six block matches received good feedback from the fans in attendance. Of note, Lion Genji of Pro Wrestling SAISHO picked up a victory over Brother Yoshitaka, and Black Canvas Grappling rep Bunrakuken Torii fell to one of the favorites of the tournament in Morimasa Kato. Quick Kick Nakao defeated Kyuichi Matsumoto, but in the process suffered two broken ribs! He powered through the match to pick up the win, and after the event pledged to fight through the pain for the rest of the tour, stating “I fought for so long to get to this stage, I’ll be damned if I have to drop out. We have 24 ribs, I only broke two. I got plenty more to make up for it!”

I stupidly booked all the shows for the Grand Prix and didn’t write down the finishes for them, so I have no idea how the falls happened. Whoops! I should be able to fly through these shows with relative ease, so expect them decently quickly. The faster I get through these, the faster things get to unfold in NOKORI!

Thank you to you all for predicting! I’ll do a final tally after the five shows are done! If anyone else wants to add themselves to the running for the next four shows, go ahead! I know it's hard to predict for round robin tournaments, let alone when so many of them are low level puro guys.

As always, CGN91 came in with the graphics for me! He designed the Immortal Grand Prix graphic because I wasn't too happy with the one I designed. Cheers to him!

You're too fast for me and the different time zones are killing me, too.:D

I'm a bit surprised Kato won his first fight with Torii to be honest. I had Kato being in the finals with losing to Torii to maybe set up a titlematch further down the road. Torii could still win his block no matter what, but i can't see anyone from the Hontai in Block-B to be a serious threat for a potential inaugral champion to be honest. Maybe Urogotaya or Shikitei but both guys are not championship material at the start i think. It will come down to their fight who's going to be more of a threat in the block.

And what about Genji? A Gatekeeper for me for years could be a Blockwinner to eliminate Uro from competition on the last day. Kato-Genji for me in the finals..
