The North Remembers [Canadian Wrestling Alliance]

PROLOGUE

Date: Saturday afternoon in late December 2019...

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada...

It was a cold Canadian day, as they all are in December. Last minute Christmas shopping meant the roads were full, but the Scotia Plaza tower was the opposite. It was mostly custodians who came in on the weekends to clean up without people walking all over the floors. Towards the top of the building, five men were having a meeting that would change professional wrestling forever.

Steve DeColt, Jack DeColt, Ricky DeColt, Jeremy Stone, and Duane Stone. They represent the two most powerful families in the history of Canadian wrestling. The five men are veterans of the squared circle, with Steve, Jeremy and Duane having hung up the boots. They had been meeting for about an hour. The fate of an entire country's wrestling scene was in their hands.

"Has this ever been done before," asked Ricky.

Jeremy responded, "No. Never."

Jack let out a small chuckle. "What would our fathers say right now?"

Steve gazed out the window, staring at the endless skyline. They were on the 58th floor of the Scotia Plaza in the business park area of Toronto. For the first thirty or so years of his life, he rarely ventured this far east. His home was far, far away in British Columbia. Then one day, visits to Toronto became less of a vacation and more of a work trip. His mind went back to 2009, when he left his brothers to join the other men in this room. That decision always weighed on him. He never wanted to leave the family business, but what happens when the family business is taken over by a madman? Worse, what happens when the madman is your brother? Steve knew everyone in this meeting has thought about it. Alex taking over the book was the beginning of the end. There is a reason Alex is not here with them right now. Steve wasn't really sure where the "Mad King" was right now at all. He loved Alex, just as much as the rest of the family, but he was terrible at running the show.

Steve drowned out the conversation with his thoughts. If he had never left, would they be in this tower right now? Or was this the inevitable conclusion?

Steve, his eyes still fixated on one cloud outside, ignored the question posed by his brother. "Let's do it."

Duane picked up his gel pen and took one deep breath before signing his name. The other four watched the ink stain the white paper as it sunk in what they were doing. After the 't' was crossed, Duane looked up with a sense of hope.

"I think our dads would be proud."

For almost thirty years, professional wrestling in Canada was divided between two companies: the Stone family's North of the Border Pro Wrestling and the DeColt family's Canadian Golden Combat. The war was as much Stones vs DeColts as it was NOTBPW vs. CGC.

NOTBPW ruled over eastern Canada, basing themselves out of the Maritimes and having a stronghold across Ontario and Quebec. Often derided as "soulless," some of the world's most talented professional wrestlers trained and/or worked for there. On the other hand, CGC operated out of British Columbia, and thus held territory across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba as well. The DeColts favored entertainment, and thus their roster were masters of the microphone. The only time a member of one of the families flipped was in 2009 when Steve DeColt left the company due to a major falling out with his brother and CGC booker at the time, Alex.

That's just how wrestling in Canada existed. Until 2017.

There were a few reasons why the events of 2017 occurred. United States Pro Wrestling was taking over the world, and that included Canada. The overreliance on the familiar also caused both companies to suffer. But the most important reason was the coinciding deaths of the patriarchs of the families: George DeColt and Dan Stone. George died in September 2017 after battling a short illness. His funeral was one of the largest in Canada's history, and was attended by countless faces in the wrestling business, including Dan Stone. It was at this very funeral that Dan would suddenly pass away. The tragic events and close timing of their deaths caused baseless conspiracy theories to emerge in the following months, mostly focused around the timing of Dan's death. None of them are true, however. Maybe the emotions were simply too much for an aging Dan to handle at the time. After all, despite their professional rivalry, George and Dan were very close personal friends. George's son Steve would even marry Dan's daughter Sarah.

It all came to a head in December, when, after over a year of bad business for both companies, the two families met in Toronto on the 58th floor of the Scotia Plaza tower. It was at this fateful meeting that Steve DeColt, Jack DeColt, Ricky DeColt, Jeremy Stone, and Duane Stone officially merged their companies into one entity:

The Canadian Wrestling Alliance.

North of the Border Pro Wrestling and Canadian Golden Combat ceased operations on December 31, 2017 and the Canadian Wrestling Alliance was established at the stroke of midnight. The rosters merged, with all talent given the option of staying and transferring their contracts, or voiding them and leaving with zero penalty. Most chose to stay, with some trying their luck elsewhere.

The two years since that day have been very successful for CWA. The news of the merger shook the wrestling world to its very core, as this was the first time such a move had ever been made. The inaugural event saw a host of title unification bouts and storylines established. Egos were set aside in order to lay the groundwork for the future of professional wrestling in Canada

OOC/Acknowledgments:

Alright fellas, I'm back with a good one. I'm tackling a major company in the CornellVerse for the first time here. I played a long personal game with CWA and they seemed ripe for a good diary. They remind of AEW in a lot of ways, and the huge talented roster engrossed me. The monthly PPVs will take some time for me to adjust to, but I think I can make each of them feel important anyway. There are plenty of talented workers without the last name Stone or DeColt, and the main event scene outside of those names (+ McFly) is filled with workers in their primes. Not only that, but CWA has a women's division! It is extremely top heavy right now, but Brooke Tyler is a ratings machine and will be able to build the division herself. The midcard is extremely heel heavy right now, so I will have to build up some lowercard workers and perhaps bring in a talent or two to even it out a bit. The tag team division is solid, but there is SO MUCH MORE room to grow there. With such a big roster, I should easily be able to find some chemistry between a few duos and really establish CWA as the home for tag team wrestling. Oh, and factions. Factions are coming.

For an understanding of my writing and booking style, check out my most famous diary: All Elite Wrestling: Are You #AllElite? That project won Real World Diary of the Year in 2020, which in turn helped me win New Writer of the Year and Most Improved Writer of the Year as well. Those are accomplishments I am very grateful for.

-Historian, falling_star and Sco xY2Jx for being great guys that I can talk wrestling with for hours and hours. They helped convince me to start this and will undoubtedly be involved one way or another.

-CGN91 for being another awesome dude who I can talk to about wrestling (especially puro!) and life in general.

-The Lloyd, for whom I drew inspiration from (re: plagiarized) a Game of Stones and DeColts. He also created/alted a few of the renders you see in this thread!

-The GDSCord for keeping me sane while watching wrestling, complaining about TEW and literally everything else.

Pre-Game Changes

Over the course of TEW2020's lifespan, I've added a plethora of expansions, custom companies, custom workers, etc. to my default database. This diary will utilize willr0ck's Women's Expansion, CreeperGav's YTD Workers Mod, BlakeTrask's IndyBooster, both brat99's and Wonk's distinct Indian Expansions, and a ton of YTD companies that I manually added using graphics from BestForTheBusiness, Kamchatka, Christian_Shane and a few more I can't recall.

As for off-the-bat canon changes, there aren't many except for one added company and the changes I made to the Alliances. I changed Lethal Ring to Island Pro with an opening date of January 2020, and I added contracts with a bunch of Pacific workers like Savage Fury, Samoan Destruction, Clark Alexander, Akima Brave and many many more. As for the alliances, I love a fleshed-out Confederation of the Territories, so I added a ton of companies to it from across the USA and Canada. I also changed the Mexican wrestling scene to feature its own alliance, known as the Maxima Autoridad de Lucha. Here is how the alliances look upon the start of the save:

lZur7ke.jpg

ACPW

CZCW

FCW

IPW

Island Pro

MAW

NYCW

PSW

QAW

COTT World Heavyweight (Pablo Rodriguez)

COTT World Tag Team

COTT World Six Man

COTT World Tag Team (American Cobras)

COTT World Women's

COTT World Women's Tag Team

8ggAf6X.jpg

CILL

EMLL

OLLIE

MAL Mega (Men's)

MAL Reina (Women's)

Other tidbits are a rearranged CWA schedule to better fit the "major show every three months" rhythm I want, a TBA King In The North tournament, and some familial changes that you will see in the future.

This CWA will be extremely similar to my AEW diary, both in terms of how the product and how I present everything. I am much better at booking that style than any form of traditional sports entertainment lol.

You already know my feelings about this. Pledging my support on it too.

It's gonna be a good one!

Much love brother

Love the graphics so far, and the prologue. The King In The North Tournament is a great name, wish I'd thought of that! :D

Total Championship Wrestling and Canadian Wrestling Alliance Announce Official Partnership

Monday Week 1, January 2020

TCW CEO Kyle Rhodes and CWA CEO Steve DeColt announced in a video message today that their respective wrestling promotions are entering a working agreement with one another.

The Canadian Wrestling Alliance was of course founded with the merger of North of the Border Pro Wrestling and Canadian Golden Combat just over two years ago. The move has proven to be a huge success as Canadian Wrestling has seen a huge rise in interest since 2018. Total Championship Wrestling is firmly in third place in the "wrestling arms race" in the United States. The meteoric rise of United States Pro Wrestling and the firmness of the Supreme Wrestling Federation has caused TCW to fall behind, despite quite often putting on a better product than its two competitors.

This partnership should be a mutually-beneficial one, as they are roughly the same size in their respective regions and have quite an overlap in their fanbases. They each stick to a more sports-feel form of wrestling, while still maintaining enough "sports entertainment" to cater to a mainstream audience.

TCW World Heavyweight Champion Aaron Andrews recently held a Q&A on his Twitter. One question asked him what wrestler in another company he would like to face in a TCW ring, to which the Ace responded simply, "Sean McFly." "The Living Legend" Sean McFly was a two-time SWF World Heavyweight Champion in the late 90s before moving north to Canada to work for NOTBPW when he married Victoria Stone. He has worked for the Stone family ever since and is undoubtedly the greatest American in the history of Canadian wrestling. A match between Ace and McFly would surely be a huge draw.

CWA Championship Wrestling has recently seen some developments that show the Stones and DeColts working together to take down The Elite, led by CWA World Championship Christian Price. Despite no alliance being declared quite yet, the end of 2019 has heavily alluded to such a moment coming soon. CWA houses all active Stones and DeColts, except for one: Edd Stone. Edd has worked for TCW since 2007, after he was fired from NOTBPW for driving the rest of the family mad with his antics. He was known as the "black sheep" of the Stone family, that is until the summer of 2019 when he opened up in an interview with The Pro Wrestling Reporter, announcing that he had made amends with the rest of the family and spent a few weeks with his father and siblings at their vacation home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Alongside McFly, Edd Stone has been a hot topic in fans' fantasy booking. With this partnership in place, we very well may see the "24 Hour Party Animal" back in Canada.
