Michael Cole and Pat McAfee welcome us to Friday Night SmackDown presented by Progressive. Cole says that if you have been paying attention to WWE's social channels the last few weeks, then you would know that today is an altering day in the history of this business. A day we thought we would never see. A day when this franchise, SmackDown, would no longer belong to the McMahon family. WWE has sold the three different franchises of WWE; Raw, NXT and this franchise, SmackDown, to three different owners. WWE is now the governing body of these franchises. NXT has been bought by Triple H and as we learned on Monday, Raw has been bought by WWE Hall of Famer, John "Bradshaw" Layfield. And JBL began to introduce an entirely new roster this past Monday. The question now remains: who is the owner of SmackDown? And what roster have they acquired? We're about to find out. Let's go up to the ring to the Principal Owner of WWE, Stephanie McMahon.

Stephanie is already in the ring and welcomes us to the first Friday Night SmackDown of a new era. There is indeed a new owner of the SmackDown Franchise and that owner will be revealed momentarily, but first, Steph says that she feels it is fitting that she gets to say goodbye to the McMahon era of owning this franchise. Because it was this show, SmackDown, where Stephanie McMahon became the General Manager of nearly two decades ago. And it was running this show that taught her the lessons she would need and gained her the experience as an executive that she would need to one day take over the global empire that is WWE. And so Stephanie thanks the SmackDown fans for this opportunity, for her past opportunity, but now it is time to reveal the new owner. The new owne….

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN….”

Paul Heyman comes down to the ring and interrupts Stephanie from making the announcement. He makes clear that he is NOT the new owner of SmackDown and to be quite frank, Paul Heyman doesn’t need to be the new owner because as the Special Counsel to the Head of the Table, the reigning and defending, undisputed SmackDown Heavyweight Champion of the World, Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman wields more power around this place than this new owner ever could.

But Paul is out here tonight to not only rub in the fact that six nights ago at SummerSlam, the Tribal Chief destroyed the Golden Boy of the WWE, John Cena - but also to look Stephanie in the eye and tell her what Paul Heyman really thinks about the McMahon family. Because there is nothing that the McMahon family can do about it anymore. And everyone knows that Stephanie and Paul have history with each other but the fact is that Paul Heyman hates Stehanie’s guts. And the reason that Stephanie despises Pau is because Paul Heyman is what Stephanie McMahon always wishes she could be… a genius in this industry. The truth is Stephanie McMahon only has gotten to where she’s at because of who her father is. And long after Stephanie has tried to ruin his career again and again and again, it is Stephanie that is walking away from this franchise. And it is Paul that is as powerful as he has ever been.

So she may be the Principal Owner of WWE, like WWE even means anything anymore, and that’s fine - because Stephanie and her family are now irrelevant. And it does not matter who this owner is because whomever they are, they will bow down to the Tribal Chief, the Head of the Table, the God of SmackDown….Roman Reig….

Paul stops when he notices Stephanie’s sudden smile and then…..

The Rock comes out to a loud ovation. Stephanie says “Paul, meet the new owner of SmackDown.” Heyman’s mouth is agape as Rock enters the ring and shakes Stephanie’s hand. Heyman leaves the ring stunned and worried as The Rock plays to the crowd. The Rock has Stephanie take a final bow before he gets on the top rope with the mic… “FINALLY THE ROCK HAS COME BACK…..HOME.”

We have a new owner of SmackDown and it is the man who this franchise is named after! Heyman does not like it one damned bit but that’s too bad. The landscape of this franchise just changed…don’t go anywhere. We’re coming back live on FOX after this time out.

SmackDown returns from the commercial with a replay of the announcement of The Rock being the new owner of SmackDown. We then see footage of “moments ago” where The Rock walks Stephanie McMahon out of the arena to a limousine waiting for her. The Rock thanks Stephanie for the opportunity that WWE gave him to become a star and then to come home and own this show. Stephanie shakes his hand again and tells him to kick ass before waving at some of the fans outside the building and getting into her limo. The McMahon era of SmackDown has come to a close.

TONI STORM VS ZELINA VEGA

Typical TV match with a couple of spots for Zelina but this is all about hyping up Toni Storm and Zelina makes her look like a million bucks. Storm wins with the Storm Zero for the pinfall.

After the match, Zelina throws a fit while Toni celebrates by posing for the crowd. The announcers put over Toni Storm as the future of the SmackDown Women’s Division and how happy they are that she is still part of this franchise.

In the back, Kayla Braxton brings us into the office of the new owner of the SmackDown franchise, The Rock. The Rock is all smiles as he welcomes Kayla into the office. The Rock says that everybody knows that The Rock is the busiest star in Hollywood, The Rock owns a production company, owns the XFL, and now owns SmackDown. The Rock has a lot on his plate and The Rock wants to be fair to the SmackDown audience to have a Managing Director that is here every single week. The Rock scoured WWE to find the right person to have The Rock’s unqualified support week in and week out in running the day-to-day operations of this franchise. But that person was under The Rock’s nose all along. That person has been a “WWE Official '' as of late but is also a badass person who can deliver Boots to Asses

Sonya Deville walks into the shot and shakes the hand of The Rock. She says that she is proud to have left the WWE corporate office and joined The Rock’s vision for SmackDown. Sonya is humbled and excited to run the day-to-day operations of the premiere franchise in all of sports entertainment. And The Rock is right, Sonya knows this franchise and she knows the vision that The Rock has and she will deliver on that vision. And that means that right now there is a big announcement to make.

Two weeks from tonight, SmackDown will return to the World’s Most Famous Arena - hallowed ground of sports-entertainment - Madison Square Garden for our Season Premiere. SmackDown’s return to MSG demands a marquee main event and that is exactly what SmackDown will deliver. At Madison Square Garden, two weeks from tonight, the reigning and defending SmackDown Heavyweight Champion of the World Roman Reigns will defend that title against the man that got screwed out of a main event match at SummerSlam and that man is….Finn Balor.

The crowd roars as that huge match is announced for SmackDown at MSG in two weeks. How will Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman respond to this huge news? Don’t go anywhere - SmackDown will return on FOX.

Rey & Dominic Mysterio come out to the delight of the audience. We are told that they have a match against two of the newest SmackDown stars coming over from the Raw franchise. After the Mysterios get into the ring, the music of the Modern Day Maharaja Jinder Mahal plays. He and Veer along with Shanky come out to the ring as Mahal and Veer are in action against the Mysterios.

THE MYSTERIOS VS JINDER MAHAL AND VEER W/SHANKY

Early on Jinder and Veer dominate the Mysterios and isolate Dom from his father for an early portion of the match. Once Dominik is able to make the hot tag, Rey comes in and starts cleaning house and scores several near falls. Rey finally is able to nail the 619 onto Veer and begins to go up top for the kill shot but Dominik gets excited and tags in much to the surprise of his father. Dom climbs to the top rope but at the same time Jinder nails Rey off the apron and then crotches Dom onto the turnbuckle. Veer does a top rope Suplex and tags in Jinder who nails the Khallas for the 3 count.

After the match, Jinder gets onto the microphone and says that everyone in SmackDown is put on notice. The Modern Day Maharaja has returned to the franchise that made him a world champion and the day will soon come when Mahal’s Compound owns the entire SmackDown franchise.

SmackDown returns to show us how Bianca Belair defeated Sasha Banks to retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship last Saturday at SummerSlam. We are told that next week on SmackDown, the Women’s Champion Bianca Belair will be on hand to find out who her next challenger will be.

CESARO VS SHEAMUS © 

A banger of a physical match between two of SmackDown’s best. Early in the contest, Cesaro goes for the swing but Sheamus kicks Cesaro in the face. From there the champion slams Cesaro face first on the turnbuckle and starts pounding away on Cesaro. Cesaro shows incredible heart as he refuses to stay down to the offense of Sheamus. The tide turns when Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick, but Cesaro side-steps and Sheamus crotches himself on the ropes. Cesaro starts kicking at Sheamus’ thigh and it’s so hard that a bruise is clearly showing. After a few false finishes with Cesaro on top, Sheamus back elbows Cesaro in the chin and goes for the Brogue Kick but Cesaro grabs Sheamus’ leg and trips him down. Cesaro nails a 8 rotation swing and then hits the Neutralizer!! Cover….1….2….3. NEW CHAMPION!

Sheamus is in disbelief as he has lost his title on his first night back with the SmackDown franchise. Cesaro celebrates on the stage. We have a new SmackDown United States Champion and his name is Cesaro!!!

Eva Marie is walking with Doudrop to the ring.They pause and Eva tells Doudrop that she understands that Doudrop let her emotions get the best of her at SummerSlam. And that Doudrop failed to do her job and that’s ok. Eva forgives Doudrop. Eva walks away self satisfied as Doudrop rolls her eyes. The newest SmackDown stars will be in action….next on FOX.

SmackDown returns Cesaro celebrating in the back. Dolph Ziggler comes up clapping in a mocking fashion and “congratulates” the new champion and issues a challenge for next week. Cesaro smiles and says he will bring the fight to all comers and accepts. Cesaro’s first United States Title defense will be against Dolph Ziggler next week on FOX!

We then go to a vignette showing Erik & Ivar. They tell us that they are done playing kids games pretending to be Vikings. Erik & Ivar deliver destruction. Erik & Ivar deliver mayhem. Erik & Ivar deliver WAR! That is who they are and that is who they will be. The War Raiders are coming back and soon they will take over SmackDown.

DOUDROP W/EVA MARIE VS TEGAN NOX

This match is designed to put Doudrop over as a killer as she shows a strong mean streak throwing Tegan around. Doudrop nails a series of splashes and some stiff forearms to the back of Nox. Teagan gets some hope spots but, this is largely about Doudrop who nails a World’s Strongest Slam for an empathic three count

After the match, Eva Marie grabs a microphone and starts claiming that she has won this match. Eva says that she is setting her sights on Bia….Doudrop takes the microphone out of Eva’s hands. Doudrop looks Eva dead in the eye and tells her “I won that match. Just like you lost at SummerSlam. I don’t need you.” Doudrop then decks Eva hard.

Eva is stunned as Doudrop grabs Eva by the hair and drags her into a corner and splashes Eva in the corner. Doudrop then grabs Eva and delivers not one, not two, but three Worlds Strongest Slams to Eva. Doudrop then splashes Eva and the camera catches Eva spitting up blood from internal injuries.

Doudrop looks down at Eva with disdain and says “by the way, my name is Piper Niven and I am done with you.” Piper walks off while officials rush into the ring to check on Eva who is still spitting up blood.

The newest members of the SmackDown franchise, Ricochet & Shelton Benjamin are seen in a split screen walking to the ring. They will make their SmackDown debut as opponents...next.

SmackDown returns just a few moments ago where Dou….,Piper Niven, defeated Teagan Nox and then decimated Eva Marie. Footage from during the break is shown where Eva is taken from the back to a waiting ambulance with the announcers wondering what has just been unleashed onto the SmackDown women’s division and wondering if we will ever see Eva Marie again.

We go back to earlier tonight where we were told that in two weeks SmackDown World Champion Roman Reigns will defend his title against Finn Balor on the Season Premiere of SmackDown from Madison Square Garden! The Head of the Table will be on hand tonight after this match.

RICOCHET VS SHELTON BENJAMIN

This match is an aerial show early on and both men really shine. Shelton holds his own with some high-flying moves including a shooting star press that nearly gets a pin fall on Ricochet. Ricochet takes control of the match and nearly scores a win with a Destroyer but Shelton gets his shoulder up at 2 and a half. After some fighting on the floor, Shelton rakes Ricochet’s eyes and dominates from this point on. Shelton hits the Paydirt….1….2….Ricochet kicks out! Shelton misses with a splash in a corner and that allows Ricochet to do a Death Valley Driver. Ricochet goes up top - 630!!!!!!

In the back we see Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and The Uso’s in Roman’s suite smiling at the television screen. They are watching a replay of SummerSlam where Roman defeated John Cena and stood tall as the Head of the Table. The Champion and Paul Heyman exit the locker room. We follow Roman and Paul through the hallway up to the Gorilla Position.

SmackDown returns to Roman in the ring soaking in the boos like he is the king of an empire. SmackDown then takes us back to six nights ago at SummerSlam and we see still images of Roman and Cena’s epic encounter to close the show. We see the Attitude Adjustment and then Roman kicks out at one - stunning Cena. We see Roman’s arrogant smile after he nails the Superman Punch and then Roman waves goodbye to Cena right before hitting the Spear….1...2...3. The still photos end and Roman is back in the ring with a smug smile.

"Little Rock, are you ready to celebrate? Are you excited to see your Tribal Chief? Now, most people would come out here after a victory like I had over someone like John Cena and hold a big celebration. But not me. You see that’s the difference between me and everyone else. I don't celebrate everyday occurrences like defending my SmackDown World Championship. I don't celebrate defeating anyone because there is no one better than me. Listen, if someone can beat me, throw that man a parade, because he’s done the impossible. But when I win? It’s just the way it’s supposed to happen.

I do want to give John all his props for Summerslam. He brought it, he pushed me, he tried to get that 123 he kept talking about. He even gave me an Attitude Adjustment off the top rope. Paul you saw that, right? But you know what all that meant, Little Rock? Mr. Missionary couldn’t get the job done.

That’s not a slap at John though. Nobody is on my level and certainly not Finn Balor. Finn was right that John screwed him out of his chance and if he wants his title match at the Hallowed Grounds that is Madison Square Garden, that is fine with your Tribal Chief. But Finn, I am going to warn you man - I took John Cena’s best shot and laid his ass out - and that is what is in your future in two weeks because I accept and you will acknowledge me. And now yet another member of the Bloodline is owning this franchise? That only means one thing….this title, the only title in this world that matters, will remain on my shoulder for as long as I want it. Believe that!”

Roman raises the title high to a chorus of boos with Heyman showing reverence. But the match is made: two weeks from tonight - SmackDown from Madison Square Garden - Finn Balor vs Roman Reigns for the SmackDown World Title!!!!

Backstage new SmackDown Managing Director, Sonya Deville is seen walking from her office towards the parking lot. She is on the phone and deep into conversation:

Sonya: “Yes, yes that is perfect. So the deal is all set then? Excellent. Thank you so much Hunter, this is a win for us both. I can't wait for him to debut.”

Sonya says her goodbye and puts her phone away. She walks to the limousine door where The Rock steps out. He asks her “is it done?” She says that it is. The Rock tells her that SmackDown is in good hands with Sonya. They shake hands and get into the waiting limousine which pulls out into the night.

Michael Cole: “Who has Sonya DeVille brought to SmackDown?”

KEVIN OWENS VS CHAD GABLE W/OTIS

Gable begins the match showing Owens up with ameteur wrestling but when he tries again Owens sandbags him and floors him with a reverse headbutt. KO controls the match for the next several minutes until the action spills to the outside and behind the referee’s back Otis runs him into the apron. Gable goes for the pin when Owens is rolled back in but it only gets a two count. Owens is whipped into the corner and when Gable tries a running splash Owens moves and Gable eats turnbuckle. Gable turns and stumbles to the middle of the ring where he gets a kick to the gut and is dropped with a stunner for the 123.

Karrion Kross runs down behind Owens and blasts him with a forearm to the back of the head. KO drops like a rock and appears to be knocked out as Kross stands over him, before locking in the Kross Jacket. Officials rush over to break it up but the damage has been done.

Carmella flips her hair with a smirk. “I mean number one I’m the most beautiful woman in WWE that goes without saying but with my partner tonight we will dominate them. Alexa can hypnotize them, or scare them, or make them throw up black slime.”

Bliss, standing to her side, begins shaking her head. When Carmella gives her a questioning glance Scheiber offers her the microphone. “I don’t do any of that anymore.”

Carmella seems taken aback. “Then what do you do?”

Bliss just smirks. “I win.”

Alexa walks away and through the curtain and Carmella follows.

The Champions double team Carmella in the early going and this appears to be a quick match but when Natalya hits the ropes, Bliss pulls down the top rope and she tumbles to the outside. This gives Carmella a chance to tag out and Bliss goes to town on Natalya on the outside before rolling her in and continuing to work her over. The heels continue to double team her until she makes the hot tag to Tamina who comes in and cleans house. Tamina military press slams both Carmella and Bliss before making a tag back for Natalya who has her second wind. Natalya tries to put on the sharpshooter but Bliss kicks her in the behind and shoves her at Tamina who is just exiting through the ropes. Tamina falls to the floor and Natalya staggers back into a schoolboy rollup and the referee counts to three.

THE STREET PROFITS VS GRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS

A really good match which goes back and forth with both teams getting time with the advantage and their usual offense. The Street Profits have the crowd behind them and they boo whenever the GYV gain the upper hand through brawling. It appears to be going the Street Profits way when Gibson makes a blind tag and when Drake picks up Ford in a tombstone position he suddenly throws him forward into Gibson’s double knee breaker. Gibson makes the cover as Drake keeps Dawkins from breaking it up.

Ryker doesn’t stop taping his wrists but nods.

“Man, I can’t even imagine. Tell me, what was it like fighting Cobra?”

Ryker stops and slowly looks at Truth in silence. After a moment Truth gives a small wave.

“I uh, think I hear little Jimmy. I’m coming!”

He runs off as Ryker goes back to what he was doing and his match is next!

JAXSON RYKER VS ANGEL GARZA

Garza starts off fast and has Ryker rocked until he’s bounding off the ropes and almost gets decapitated with a clothesline. Ryker has a wildfire in his eyes as he begins to dominate Garza, seemingly taking a little pleasure in it. He works over Garza’s back with several backbreakers and other power moves before hitting a sitdown chokeslam Jimmy Smith refers to as ‘No Remorse.’ It’s an easy three count.

When we come back, the Raw Womens Champion is already in the ring with boos raining down.

“Oh come on, you knew this was going to happen. You all knew I was destined to get my title back and as soon as I stepped in the ring with your little almost-a-super-hero her title reign was doomed. I’m the biggest, I’m the toughest, I’m the baddest bitch in this business and there is nobody who can even come close.

Naomi comes out to cheers and fearlessly comes down to the ring.

“You may be big and bad but I’m not afraid of you. In fact I am a former two time world champion and I can be a three time champion after I beat you!”

Nia laughs off the challenge. “You know, your entrance reminds me of a firefly I used to catch as a kid. And when I’d catch them, I’d pop them until their glow was smashed all over my hands. I’ll gladly do the same to you next week but don’t think you’re just showing up and getting a title shot. You have to survive first.”

Nia exits the ring as Naomi pumps up the crowd.

Elias controls the early going while splitting his time taunting the New Day at ringside and beating the hell out of Kofi but the former world champion fights back, stunning Elias with a series of kicks before hitting a rolling DDT which gets a two count. Elias goes to the outside for a breather but Big E throws him back and when Elias gets done arguing with Big E he turns around just in time to catch Trouble in Paradise right in the face.

“So that means count out and disqualification as well?”

“If she gets her hand raised she gets her shot.”

Both men look fantastic in this match as their differing styles mesh well together and even though Lashley is one of the strongest men in the WWE the King of strongstyle is no slouch and he cuts the champion down with stiff strikes. Lashley is getting hit from all angles and looks to be momentarily faltering. Nakamura is inspired even more when Boogs begins to play at ringside drawing the attention of MVP. As MVP screams at Boogs, the music man just smiles and plays more. The referee is distracted by what’s going on at ringside and doesn’t see Nakamura hit the kinshasa and go for the cover. Lashley is clearly down but there’s noone to count. Suddenly from the crowd…..

Seth Rollins appears and slides into the ring. When Nakamura sees him it’s too late to block a pinpoint superkick. Nakamura is woosy and gets to all fours as Rollings delivers a curbstomp before rolling out of the ring. MVP, who saw all this happening and kept the referee engaged backs off of Boogs. By now Lashley is getting to his feet and seeing Nakamura down he picks him up with great strength and delivers a Dominator for the win.

WINNER BY PINFALL AND STILL RAW WORLD CHAMPION: BOBBY LASHLEY

Well there was the time he was hooking up with a Neo **** for one, but he hasn't been remotely entertaining to me in years regardless of what he does. He also comes across like a total d-bag in out of character interviews. He has a very high opinion of himself that I don't feel is anywhere near earned.

I liked him for most of his career, but the last time he entertained me was before he was forced to vacate the title in 2015. Everything after his return in 2016 has bored me to tears or made me change the channel.

In real life I get it. But as a performer he is talented and he’s a major part of the WWE that we took over. For that matter, so is Nia. We were very clear eyed about what this company is and has been and the perception of it when we both left popular and successful projects to do this. Our changes to the company will happen over time. Not overnight. And there are many people on both rosters that if I was applying my real life opinion to, I wouldn’t be doing this project. Because I would just fire quite a lot lol.

But that will not be realistic. Just remember that we inherited this company as it is. And we’re going to try to make it better. But that won’t happen in two shows, and it will mean trying to rehab some people that right now have been damaged. There are a lot of things that we have planned between now and Wrestlemania that we are VERY excited for. And I suspect that the company that we own in our world will look very different a year from now let alone several years from now (and our aim is to go for several real years btw).

Basically, give us a chance lol.

Oh no - I know that! I wanted to make that statement in general because it’s the elephant in the room. WWE has not been creatively very good for quite a while. And there is a sizable amount of WWE fatigue. And we saw it and realized it.

Before anybody else votes, I wanna explain the reasoning for why we’re even asking this question.

We’re looking at a way to differentiate the two titles of the two franchises. And that these are independent companies under the WWE umbrella. Trying to make the appearance of the titles not be uniform so that each franchise and each show stands out. And this was an idea.

With that said, we’re really curious what you guys think - so please continue to vote!

I'm voting for Big Gold, although it's not because it's the best designed title ever. Rather, if you two are operating as two separate entities, the titles should look like they are from two separate entities as well. I actually like the design of the black WWE title that Lashley has, and if that one is definitely being kept, then Big Gold all the way.
