Canadian Golden Combat 2007

Recommended Posts

Over the last year I've started writing at least 4 or 5 diaries that I never posted. I've had even more ideas that didn't get past the planning stage. Long story short, I'd always find a reason not to start a thread. A lot of the time I'd plan so far ahead, in such detail, that I'd be more interested in the ideas I had for 6 months into the save rather than at the start. So instead of waiting to find another reason not to post a diary, I've decided to just start one.

Fair warning about this diary - I'm not planning very far ahead. I have some general ideas about where the story will go but I'm just going to let it unfold as it will. There's no spreadsheet booking here. Presentation will be quite straight forward. If anyone gets some joy from reading something in this thread then that's awesome. But this is also an experiment to see how I can develop as a writer and a way to finally get over the hurdle of starting a diary here. With all that out of the way lets take a look at the company for this save.

Canadian Golden Combat (2007)

(Shout out to TCP1 for the mod)

We're going way back in time to when all four DeColt boys were in the same company.  Brothers Steve, Alex and Jack sit firmly at the top of the CGC mountain as the top draws of their father's company. The youngest DeColt Ricky, still a lightweight high flier at this point, is developing well and looks to eventually become a world champion like his brothers before him. Adrian Garcia leads and manages the Elite stable, a ragtag group of heels who are constant antagonists to the beloved DeColts. CGC start with a very solid presence with some big draws but there are also glaring weaknesses.

Strengths:

A huge amount of popularity in our home region. Makes for big crowds, even for TV, which means a lot of cash flowing in.

The DeColts are money.

Sports Entertainment product with a number of decent-to-strong talkers.

Weaknesses:

A sizeable gap between the main eventers and the rest of the roster. It's The DeColts, The Elite, then everybody else.

Heels outnumber the faces by quite a lot.

High popularity in our home region that our show quality won't be able to consistently match. It will be nearly impossible to stop it from reducing, let alone increase it, for quite a while.

Acknowledgements:

Thank you to TCP1 for their awesome mod of one of the most interesting periods in CVerse history.

For their work creating some of the renders I'm using I'd like to thank shipshirt, whose distinctive style always gives characters a lot of personality. I'd also like to thank King Bison, for his consistently top notch work and for being the person who inspired me to start making renders of my own.

January Week 1 - CGC Title Bout Wrestling

CGC.jpg.25523ab681dc3c5caa6ed352e796ce52.jpg

Shooter Sean Deeley vs. Ed Monton - CGC Canadian Title

CGC_Canadian.jpg.75db3c571848ab7853c1c6476d29ffcb.jpg

ShooterSeanDeeley.jpg.599aed8249e206a637df5cb99ce01185.jpg VS EdMonton.jpg.3cdebdc82a714835c9b2b00a70539be6.jpg

  • Farrah Hesketh: "We're starting the year strong tonight. The veteran Ed Monton challenges technical wrestling expert and current Canadian Champion Shooter Sean Deeley in our first match of the year."
  • Jerome Turner: "Ricky DeColt sits ringside for this one. The Shooter invited DeColt to the ring himself, perhaps to show off to his rival (*ooo nice hip toss*) who he won the title off 2 months ago."
  • The match revolves around Monton trying to use his experience to steer the match and counter the much faster and athletic youngster. Monton does a good job of holding his own at first but even when he telegraphs Deeley's next move he's a step too slow to stop it.
  • Monton's methodical brawling style is ultimately useless against Deeley's submission expertise. After the veteran has been stretched and exhausted, Shooter locks him in a standing front facing guillotine while staring straight into Ricky DeColt's eyes. Deeley drops down to the ground and Monton weakly taps out.

ANGLE: The DeColt Boys and The Elite clash at CGC Elimination

AlexDeColt.jpg.409f15a1c462daa1bbabdd0c9695549b.jpgSteveDeColt.jpg.1eb36212bc835f70432f2434186e40ff.jpgJackDeColt.jpg.3e39c1dbbe9dd486937dd7ca43deb002.jpgRickyDeColt.jpg.62a10bff16b7088139ec255d57729b47.jpg

  • The DeColt boys strut to the ring, waving to their adoring fans. They meet Ricky in the ring and take a couple of microphones from the ring announcer.
  • With CGC Elimination less than two weeks away The DeColts want to make the PPV main event official.
  • Alex DeColt: "Garcia, we've been going up against your Elite boys for years, and every time you think you have our number we come back stronger and take back our place at the top of CGC." Alex unstraps his world title belt from around his waist and holds it up. "So once and for all, let's see who the top group of fighters in Canada really is. At Elimination - The DeColts vs. The Elite."
  • Steve DeColt: "We wanna get our hands on ya in two weeks time but I don't know about you three, two weeks is too long for me to wait. I'm calling out any member of The Elite for a match, one on one, tonight"

AdrianGarcia.jpg.36ca3c982471bf79a62cea7d01685259.jpgDanDaLay.jpg.9cad0b12abf6e88fbbc58538db0ab640.jpgJohnMaverick.jpg.4c6103e58059c72c47f38c76ff2cd2ea.jpgEddieChandler.jpg.c8c24127faf7fb388fea33f9f4748eeb.jpg

  • Adrian Garcia leads The Elite through the entrance way: The Hulking Dan DaLay, the stone faced crippler John Maverick and the expert technician Eddie Chandler adorned in his luxurious pink robe.
  • Adrian Garcia: "Did you boys really need to come out here and make all this fuss for us? We'd never miss the chance to put The DeColts in their place. At Elimination you'll find out first hand what make all of us "Elite"."
  • Eddie Chandler: "Steve DeColt... you don't know it yet... but you've got a target on your back. As much as I'd like a shot at your brother with the big gold over there... the prize of being the man to beat THE Steve DeColt would be simply... glorious. See you tonight Steve..."

Ryan Powell vs. Shane Nelson

RyanPowell.jpg.7db37de9a3211091ffd04f0aab4ac3b0.jpg VS ShaneNelson.jpg.ec2ad5414827a52eaa1e1be6aa26629e.jpg

  • Next we get a bout between two of CGC's rising stars. Ryan Powell has built up a decent winning streak over the last couple of months. He takes on one half of the World Tag Team Champions, Shane Nelson.
  • Both men are high fliers but Powell has a size advantage and a better striking base that he uses to beat down the young champion.
  • Powell starts to get cocky and Nelson uses an opening to take to the skies and knock the wind out of his opponent.
  • Nelson picks up steam but get his foot swiped from under him by an interfering Nate Johnson.
  • Nelson's slight trip distracts him enough for Powell to take advantage and put Nelson away with the Star Treatment.

ANGLE: Powell wants Gold

RyanPowell.jpg.7db37de9a3211091ffd04f0aab4ac3b0.jpg

  • Powell celebrates like it's the WrestleFestival main event. He stands on a turnbuckle and pounds his chest while the crowd hiss and boo. He signals for a mic.
  • Ryan Powell: "Woooo it feels great being this damn good! Hey listen up! I've been the Canadian Champion, I've been Tag Team Champion, now I want that triple crown. Alex DeColt! Since you're not defending your World Title at Elimination, how about you and me fight next week. Powell versus DeColt, one on one for the World Title!"

AlexDeColt.jpg.409f15a1c462daa1bbabdd0c9695549b.jpg

  • Alex DeColt pushes through the entrance curtain with a microphone in hand.
  • Alex DeColt: "You've had a hot streak for a couple months, but I've been on top for years. Be careful what you wish for. You're on!
  • And just like that we've got our main event for next week.

Steve DeColt vs. Eddie Chandler

SteveDeColt.jpg.1eb36212bc835f70432f2434186e40ff.jpg VS EddieChandler.jpg.c8c24127faf7fb388fea33f9f4748eeb.jpg

  • Chandler comes to the ring flanked by Adrian Garcia and John Maverick. Garcia does his duty and slides the luxurious fur robe off of Chandler. Steve DeColt comes to the ring with younger brother Ricky for back up.
  • Steve DeColt is the much bigger man in this match but don't let size fool you. Despite his smaller, somewhat plain looking body, Eddie Chandler is much stronger than he looks. The Elite's fighter takes control of the match early on. DeColt is one of the most well rounded wrestlers in the world but Chandler is leagues ahead of him as a technician.
  • The story of the match is Steve dealing damage with thunderous strikes only for Chandler to weave around the big man and lash at him like a viper. Chandler darts in, grapples DeColt and wrenches his limbs. He hyper-extends them over the ring ropes. He ducks wild swings and strikes at DeColt's body.
  • DeColt gets the advantage when he picks up Chandler, while in a triangle hold, and runs him into the ring corner.
  • Garcia and Maverick try to get involved but Ricky DeColt takes them both out with a running dive off the ring's edge.
  • DeColt start to build momentum fast. He throws strike after strike. Fists and forearms. The match turns into a brawl and Chandler gets overwhelmed - he tries to use dirty tactics but Steve's on a roll. Back body drop. Shotgun dropkick. DeColt clasps his arms around Chandler from the back, shoves him away then yanks him back hard for the rip chord clothesline - the DeColt Stampede!
  • Steve DeColt pins Eddie Chandler just after the 18 minute mark of the match to get the win.

Enjoyed the first show. CGC were one of my favourites back on my first TEW game (2013), so this roster won't be so different to that.

I don't think the heels outnumbering the faces will be much of a weakness as I think with the DeColts ever present you'll need plenty of heels to rotate around. If anything I think the biggest challenge will be positioning anybody as real threats to them. Although I enjoyed the Elite there so hopefully they step up to the challenge.

P.s I like the renders used too. I don't know if they are the default 09 ones or you've sourced them elsewhere but it's nice that they are the same style without everyone looking the same.

LOVE this mate. Count me in. Echo Christmas_ape about the renders, but I'm pretty sure they're your own work?

Remind me, are Nate and Bobby still around here? Would love to see their feud with Youth Energy play out. And I wonder if Nate is friends with Jack's wife at this point 👀

Thanks for the interest guys. Didn't expect any response this early on but it's appreciated

A lot of the renders I made myself but I'm using a mix of other people's as well. Some were the mod's default images. I'm using some of King Bison's and I think shipshirt's (?). I should probably add an acknowledgements list on the first post. If someone points out another user's renders I'm using I can credit them.

Yes The Specialists are still together and their feud with Youth Energy is one of the default storylines in the mod. As for Nate, I think there was a mistake in the mod because he and Jack were set as married to Marie at the same time! I removed Nate & Marie's relationship but I think they both have the unfaithful attribute so this save could go south at any point. I just hope Marie keeps her eyes off the other DeColt boys. Although that'd be a hell of an alternate timeline...

January Week 2 2007 - Title Bout Wrestling

CGCTBW.jpg.ef6f9db2a43209efe16dfc50e2b30550.jpg

The Specialists vs. The Varsity Boys

BobbyThomas.jpg.8a9792ce47bc6c5bea7fb9b4f7807589.jpgNateJohnson.jpg.0763b3a4dfe270a30394ac865e1fa1e0.jpg VS TrentShaffer.jpg.950f56a65c714d7373ded4786f601e22.jpgKennyCallaway.jpg.dd214fbd7cf2361e068a9b60437b60b7.jpg

  • Tonight we kick off with some tag team action. Plucky young tag team The Varsity Boys, Delicious Danny and Stunning Stuart, burst through the entrance curtain. Big high-5 and they speed down to the ring.
  • The Specialists are out next. The brooding Bobby Thomas enters with his tag team partner Nate Johnson, who as always wears a smug smirk that seems to be tattooed to his face. We see a brief recap of Johnson costing Tag Champion Shane Nelson his match last week. Johnson's smirk gets a little wider when he sees the footage on the titantron.
  • The Specialists work over Stunning Stuart early in the match. Danny gets the hot tag and goes wild. At only 21 years old, Danny's experience is nowhere near either of the former 4-time Tag Champions' but he has one major advantage - unrivaled stamina. He fires out dropkicks, hurricanranas, he's on the ground one moment then he's leapt to the top turnbuckle the next. He gets cut off when Thomas illegally crotches Danny on the turnbuckle.
  • From here The Specialists dominate the match. They isolate Danny in their corner and grind him down. The Varsity Boys don't get another tag in the match. In the end Bobby Thomas pins Danny in the centre of the ring and Nate takes out Stuart for good measure.

ANGLE: The DeColts Prepare For A Big Night

  • We cut to backstage footage inside The DeColt's private locker room. Alex and Ricky help each other warm up. Pummeling and stretching. Alex claps his hands a couple of times over Ricky's shoulders.
  • Alex: "You ready?"
  • Ricky: "Yep, I'm good."
  • Alex: "Alright good luck. Go get 'em"
  • With a quick handshake and a solid slap on the back the young DeColt is off. His place in the frame is replaced by Steve and Jack, dressed in their civilian clothing.

SteveDeColt.jpg.6b30f5c227b2075b6b9a5b9435fe03f8.jpgJackDeColt.jpg.990c78efe8de73501960131624cacafc.jpg

  • Jack: "Looking good bro. Feeling good?" Alex nods, bouncing from foot to foot. "You sure you don't want us out there with you tonight?"
  • Alex: "He wanted me one-on-one so that's what he's gonna get. Just rest up and meet me after the show and we'll keep going over our plan for Elimination."
  • Steve: "Alright, if that's what you want. We're gonna go watch the kid, see you after."
  • Alex stops his warm up and waits for the door to close off-screen. In the silence he turns to face the camera and stares straight down the lens.
  • Alex: "Powell, I know you're thinking what a lot of people are thinking. That I'm gonna take it easy tonight. That I've got my mind on The Elite and that I'll underestimate you. You think you'll be able to take advantage and shock the world. Well forget it. There'll be no easy way to the World Title while I've got the gold. There's a reason I'm known as one of the best minds in the business - you've been watching me, but I've been watching you too. I've studied you Ryan. And when you've thrown everything you've got at me, and you're flat on your back staring up at the lights, wondering how you could try so hard and still come up short, just remember - you asked for this."

  • Ryan Powell in walking along a hallway backstage. He sees Adrian Garcia and calls out to him.
  • Powell: "Hey, Mr. Garcia, hi. You know, I'm in the main event tonight, I've got a really big match for the world title. I'm finally moving up the card and... I'm ready to take my career to the next level. Uh... did you get my emails or phone calls or-
  • Garcia: "Umm, no I'm not uhh..."
  • Powell: "Well is doesn't matter. What I'm tryna say is - I think we should work together. I mean - I want to join The Elite. If I had you in my corner, I know I could beat Alex for the World Title. I could bring the World Title back to The Elite-"
  • Garcia: "Listen, buddy...... actually you know what, I'm always looking to improve our brand. (Hmmm new athletes could be a good idea). Tell you what, we'll call your match tonight an unofficial trial. If you impress then maybe we can do business. How's that?"
  • Powell: "That's- that's amazing thank you Mr. Garcia I won't let you down"
  • Powell snatches Garcia's hand and rattles it up and down. Garcia smiles but quickly pries his hand away and starts to scurry off.
  • Garcia: You've been doing good lately buddy, good luck." He calls out from down the hall.

Ricky DeColt vs. Nathan Black

  • This match gives us a good preview for Elimination next week, where DeColt challenges Sean Deeley for the Canadian Title. Like the champion, Nathan black is a skilled technician. Deeley is ringside for this one, no doubt to study his challenger and the tactics of Black.
  • During the match, whenever Black has Ricky trapped in a hold Deeley gets up close to the ring apron. He observes Ricky's every move, his every escape strategy. He taunts Ricky, spurring his rival to escape.
  • When Ricky gets the advantage he returns the favour. He stands on the top turnbuckle and points right at Deeley before launching through the air and driving his elbow down into Black's sternum.
  • Ricky picks up the winded Black and finishes him off with the DeColt 45 (Cross Rhodes).

  • Apparently word is already out that Adrian Garcia has an eye out for new talent. Christian Price and Zeus Maxmillion are pumping iron backstage. They prepare for CGC Elimination, where they will get an opportunity to prove themselves to The Elite.

ANGLE: Whippy The Clown's Open Challenge Spectacular Fun-time Battle Contest

WhippyTheClown.jpg.6a3f5b1ec16eeb7eb6917b55e7e791f0.jpg

  • Whippy The Clown is skipping through the aisles of the arena. He has a satchel full of candy and fake flowers that he throws out into the crowd.
  • With a wide pearly grin he starts to curtsy to audience members and hand them leaflets. He folds some into paper planes and shoots them through the air.
  • He makes his way to the commentary desk and hands the announcers a leaflet that they tentatively accept.
  • Whippy The Clowns presents The Open Challenge Spectacular Fun-time Battle Contest. Commentary suspects that this will take place at Elimination. There's no other information on the leaflet. Just Whippy the Clown drawn in felt pen with what look like fireworks scribbled around him.

  • Jenny Playmate is being interviewed with her team Youth Energy about the champions' upcoming elimination match involving The Specialists on Friday.
  • Jenny: We were reeeeally hoping the Varsity Boys would knock those dirty freaks around a little more so, you know, total bummer, but at the end of the day my boys are still the best tag team ever! They're gonna totally kick a** this Friday, then after they win the Elimination match they're gonna whip The Specialist's butts to retain the tag titles. And my baby Lee here says he's gonna hit that creep Nate Johnson extra hard in the mouth to wipe that gross smile off his face."

  • Nate Johnson: "Woooaaah Honey, I don't know if anyone's told ya but you're a lot prettier when you keep your mouth shut."
  • Rivera and Nelson step forward but Jenny eases them off.
  • Jenny: "That's really original Nate. You're so smart. And cause you're so smart I bet you remember when my boys beat you to win these tag titles. Yeah, I bet you remember really well. So you can act cocky all you want but you know and I know that we've beat you once and we can do it again."
  • Nate: "You've got a mouth on ya you know that? If those dorks we just beat are the best back up you've got then Friday's gonna be a real hard night for you boys. And yeah, we remember when you took our belts. I've been thinking about it a lot. I've been thinkin bout ya long and hard and you know what? Those belts aren't the only pretty pieces of gold I've got my eye on. See you soon sweat heart."
  • Bobby Thomas: Hmm!
  • Youth Energy are ready to fight then and there but Jenny just rolls her eyes and pulls them to walk away.

Alex DeColt (C) vs. Ryan Powell - CGC World Championship

  • Powell starts off hot. The bell chimes and he charges at Alex. Powell gets the champion on the back foot and wails on him.
  • Alex is almost purely defending. He throws the odd counter attack when Powell leaves himself open but for the most part he is defending or just taking the challenger's offense.
  • Powell takes Alex off his feet. He goes up top and hits a big missile dropkick on the champion. He covers but much to his frustration only gets a 2-count.
  • Powell is panting hard. He drags the champ to his feet while gulping in breaths of air. Alex punches Powell hard in the solar plexus, crumpling the challenger. The Champion unleashes an onslaught of his own. His offense isn't flashy but it is effective. Hard punches, clotheslines, slam into the corner.
  • Powell uses the last of his energy to fight back but he's ripped off the ground and planted with a spinebuster.
  • DeColt signals for the end. He scoops up Powell and hits him with his signature DeColt Driver (Death Valley Driver) to win the match and retain his World Title.

ANGLE: Post-match Celebration

  • Alex DeColt gets his hand raised to a ruckus ovation. He climbs up the turnbuckle to give the fans what they want - a glory shot of the CGC World Champion.
  • Commentary thanks everybody for tuning in. See you on Friday they say and start to sign off.
  • Alex waves to the crowd. He holds up his World Title. He claps back at the fans to thanks them. He raises his arms in the air one last time in front of the camera to-
  • Massive lariat to the back of the head.

DanDaLay.jpg.6c1b6f4a55c22e5fbe563e9f911bbd83.jpg

  • DeColt in on all fours. Dan DaLay wraps his burly arms around the champion's waist and hoist him in the air. Gutwrench powerbomb!
  • DaLay was hiding under the ring! Was he there for the whole show!? commentary screams. DaLay picks up Alex again and drives the champ's head into the ring canvas. DaLay Down! (Sit-out Tombstone Piledriver)
  • Steve & Jack DeColt sprint to the ring and slide in just as DaLay jumps the guardrail into the crowd. His thick muscled belly bounces up and down as he laughs at the brothers in the ring. Steve and Jack check on Alex and swivel their heads around to watch out for other attackers. The show fades to black with Steve and Jack cradling the head of their unconscious brother, and the hulking DaLay looming in the background.

What a great diary start! Classic CGC is just the best. And you're still a bit before the "prime" which imo is post-Steve so you have your opportunity to give your own takes on these characters' development.

The DeColts (Alex, Steve & Jack DeColt) vs. The Elite (Dan DaLay, John Maverick & Eddie Chandler) - Elimination Tag Team Match

I mean...DeColts win lol. Not even Ricky there to mess this one up!

Shooter Sean Deeley (C) vs. Ricky DeColt - CGC Canadian Title

I think that's a hot take since he's kind of bland but I'm a big Deeley guy.

Youth Energy & The Varsity Boys vs. The Specialists & Soldiers of Fortune - Elimination Tag Team Match

More Star Power

Whippy The Clown vs. ???

Usually the ??? is a safe bet, especially at the start of a diary where a new debut is almost certain. But Whippy is my guy.

The DeColts (Alex, Steve & Jack DeColt) vs. The Elite (Dan DaLay, John Maverick & Eddie Chandler) - Elimination Tag Team Match

I initially considered the possibility of The Elite winning this match, as there is actually nothing on the line so it could be a good chance to build them as actual threats to the DeColt's, but there are some factors that made me go with the safe choice of the DeColt's, firstly Ricky is not in the match and at this point in time he was the DeColt with the lowest standing, meaning more likely to be beaten, so in this match you have the strongest combination of the brothers, which is kind of their gimmick that they are stronger as an unit, they can all come back from individual defeats, but the DeColt Wrestling Unit should be protected, and lastly but most important, it is an elimination match, if it was a one fall match, I could see maybe Jack being pinned, but in this match if the Elite wins, means they have pinned or submitted all of them. So I go with the DeColts winning with Steve being the Sole Survivor, with Jack being eliminated by his own hand due to being a wildcard, and Dalay getting the pin on Alex to build up to a World Title Match.

Shooter Sean Deeley (C) vs. Ricky DeColt - CGC Canadian Title

I seriously almost went with the Title Change back to Ricky because of CGC DeColt's win LOL. but I don't see any use to Ricky getting the title back right now, he just lost it 2-3 months ago in game, I think if Ricky is getting back his title it should be when Deeley has a longer reign so it will actually mean something. You could pull a fast one and have Deeley lose the match by count out or DQ, and not lose the title, but first that is not how you create a strong champion and second, Deeley is more of an Traditionalist Technician Heel similar to Eric Tyler, than a weasel heel that would try to keep his title by any means, he wants to be the better wrestler and leave his opponents humilliated, so I see this going as a straight win.

Youth Energy & The Varsity Boys vs. The Specialists & Soldiers of Fortune - Elimination Tag Team Match

I like Youth Energy a lot, the varsity boys not so much. and pretty much feel neutral or barely possitive about the heel teams, so I predict the heels taking the win, mostly because the tag champions are faces so keeping 2 heel teams strong and in contention is good for your division, and youth energy doesnt lose too much by taking the fall, in my mind it makes sense.

Whippy The Clown vs. ???

I have no idea who could this surprise wrestler be, could be a debut, could be someone already on your roster, anywho, in my experience as a predictor, its a safe bet to predict the surprise as in 7 of 10 times is actually a good surprise, also I hate Whippy The Clown gimmick, so yeah I cannot bring myself to predict him winning, even if it seemed logical for him to win, I tend to be very visceral in my dislike for certain characters or gimmick, so while Nathan Priest has this gimmick it is impossible for me to support him and just want him to fail.

'The Elite Opportunity': Ryan Powell, Zeus Maxmillion & Christian Price vs. The Canadian Enforcers & Steven Parker - Elimination Tag Team Match

This is the real toss up of the night, I went with the faces, as Steven Parker is a new signing and you might want to give him some momentum coming from his small run with NOTBPW and his breakout run in MAW, he could be the next big thing for you at this point in his career so a win wouldnt hurt him, also the Canadian Enforcers are the established team in this match, so as former tag champions you might want to give them somewhat of a last good run, to breath life back to the division at least while they can still give you good quality matches also its Jetson return to CGC a win could look good for the team to kickstart them back as a contenders, also in the match you could play it as  they having more experience and better communication than their opponents, that a 3 single wrestlers who havent teamed with each other.

Friday January Week 3, 2007 - CGC Elimination

CGC_Elimination.jpg.10d6403a3a0ebd796bf943730445070e.jpg

ANGLE: Garcia Scouts Talent

AdrianGarcia.jpg.b056500045e93ede86f0ac225e769acf.jpg

  • Adrian Garcia joins commentary for tonight's opener. He's open to signing new talent and ready to be impressed.
  •  Garcia: "The CGC locker room is stacked with great talent, but not everybody has what it takes to push to the front of the pack. If these men really want to be considered 'elite' then they have to show me an x-factor. So let's see what they've got."

Rating: ***1/4

MATCH 1: Ryan Powell, Zeus Maxmillion & Christian Price vs. The Canadian Enforcers & Steven Parker

RyanPowell.jpg.dc008eb3e07bb3e6d673f0170484491c.jpgZeusMaxmillion.jpg.bf4cef3992088c4a2a79f0f1c5135b4c.jpgChristianPrice.jpg.a89dc603e13853395d6967373b7fd641.jpg VS EdMonton.jpg.36848d0442188338744277e6c64e5cfb.jpgJonJetson.jpg.71e05a866a5a961df9d0325d2354030e.jpgStevenParker.jpg.b6c52a7e32878b614589912105672dec.jpg

  • Powell leads his teams out. He's amped up like a frat boy at a keg party. Pretty boy Price tries to steady his breath. Zeus strides out calm and collected, chest-out and eyes forward.
  • The Canadian Enforcers are out next. They're followed by young rookie Steven Parker. Parker has impressed on the pre-show in the last couple of weeks, winning two matches in consecutive weeks. This match marks both his on-screen and PPV debut.
  • Powell insists on starting the match for his team and comes at hot. He puts Monton on the backfoot but as soon as the match starts to sway towards the veteran Powell tags out. Christian Price lunges at Monton with flailing punches and kicks. Monton eats some hard shots but picks apart the youngster with his tag team partner. Jetson tags in and he and Monton double team Price to score the first elimination of the match.
  • Zeus replaces Price and assaults Jetson with hard punches and slams. Jetson gets the hot tag to Monton but the Greek kills the veteran's momentum. Zeus slams Monton down with his signature Thunder Bolt (Dominator) and evens the score for his team.
  • Steven Parker enters the match and manages to hold his own against Zeus. This forces Zeus to work with Powell to wear Parker down. There are a series of tags that see each competitor switch in and out of the match. The fighters rotate until Zeus and Parker face off again. This time Zeus dominates their exchange. He hits his second Thunder Bolt then scores his second pinfall of the night.
  • 2 on 1. Zeus has no intention of tagging out. He fights Jetson like it's a singles match and again he dominates his opponent. Powell is screaming for the tag but Zeus nearly has the match won himself. In the corner Zeus signals for his third Thunder Bolt. Powell tags himself in and dashes towards Jetson, hits the Star Treatment (Code Breaker), and steals the last pinfall to win the match. Powell is hyped up again and starts posing for the cameras. Zeus, although visibly annoyed at losing some of his glory, casually celebrates the victory.

ANGLE: Replay of DaLay's Attack on Alex DeColt

  • We see a replay of Dan DaLay's vicious ambush on Alex DeColt last Sunday. Adrian Garcia promises that Sunday's attack was only a taste of what's to come tonight.

Rating: ***1/2

ANGLE: Whippy The Clown's Open Challenge

WhippyTheClown.jpg.2763a42fcf8cea7d88e1ff5c846efcd5.jpg

  • Fireworks burst from the stage and crackle in the air. Whippy tumbles out of the entrance way. He cartwheels and flips through the air and sticks a graceful landing as more sparks shoot through the arena. He takes his time to wave to the crowd and bask in the colourful spotlight trail leading him to the ring.
  • Whippy gets on the mic and talks about how sad he was that no one picked him for their Elimination team this year. Poor Whippy, no one wanted to play with him. He was sad for weeks. Whippy likes to have fun too. Won't anyone come and have fun time with Whippy? he thought. Then he says he had a fantastic idea. Whippy sent out invitations all across Canada to look for another lonely boy to come and play at CGC's first big party of the year - Elimination!
  • Whippy keeps an uncanny smile stretched tight across his cheeks. But his eyes don't match. They stare from under his brows straight at the entrance way. He twists his body is a series of slow lascivious stretches as the lights dim low and the thrashing of a guitar cranks through the speakers.

DamianCarvill.jpg.152e95deb0be264353b9e8a59f995ca7.jpg

  • Damian Carvill saunters out and soaks in the crowd's surprise. The former NOTBPW Tag Team Champion heads to the ring to make his debut as a full time CGC competitor.

Rating: **1/2

MATCH 2: Whippy The Clown vs. Damian Carvill

WhippyTheClown.jpg.2763a42fcf8cea7d88e1ff5c846efcd5.jpg VS DamianCarvill.jpg.152e95deb0be264353b9e8a59f995ca7.jpg

  • The silly, over-the-top theatrics lead into a surprisingly straight forward and competitive match. It turns out that two of CGC's most athletic competitors are a goofy clown and a debuting journeyman.
  • Whippy The Clown's twisting aerial offense in tested against the speed and power of Damian Carvill's amateur wrestling inspired arsenal.
  • Carvill gets a great response in this match. His cocky swagger gets some boos but some cheering parts of the crowd seem happy with his surprise debut.
  • In the end Carvill's wrestling overcomes his opponent's acrobatics. CGC's new star plants Whippy with the Nature Calls (Satelitte DDT) for the win.

ANGLE: Interview with Ricky DeColt

RickyDeColt.jpg.8f84bd4d03a2bfab6496fd8085e87d2b.jpg

  • Ricky DeColt is being interviewed about his upcoming title match and his brothers' main event bout against The Elite:
  • Ricky: "As much as I wanna be with my brothers tonight, I also wanna be my own man. They're all former World Champions and that's the level I wanna be at some day. But to get there I've gotta deal with Sean Deeley first and get my Canadian Title back."

MATCH 3: Youth Energy w/Jenny Playmate & The Varsity Boys vs. The Specialists & Soldiers of Fortune

  • Lee Rivera calls out Nate Johnson to start the match. Johnson scurries away to his corner and Destiny steps forward instead. This match is essentially size versus speed and stamina. The heel team work over the faces by keeping them as static as possible and wearing them down. The face team rotate through their members to try maintain a fast paced assault on their opponents. The heel team eventually takes the advantage and Destiny puts Stunning Stuart away for the first fall of the match.
  • The Specialist let the Soldiers of Fortune do a lot of the work in the early half of the match. But Youth Energy pick up the pace even more whenever one of The Specialists enter the match. Johnson avoids Rivera and prefers to pick on his other opponents. The shock of the match comes when Delicious Danny picks up some momentum of his own with a whirlwind of athletic attacks and high risk maneuvers that lead to him scoring a pinfall on Chance to even the score.
  • Danny is stoked after getting the fall and he tries to keep up the same pace when Bobby Thomas replaces Chance. Thomas hits Danny with a running knee to the head. Thomas' team mates run around to their opponents' corner and pull them off the apron. Bobby Thomas puts Danny away for the third fall of the night while the other fighters brawl at ringside.
  • Shane Nelson rolls into the ring. Youth Energy are outnumbered but with their tag team expertise and shear grit they survive the chaos of the ringside brawl and the onslaught of their bigger foes. Bobby Thomas is so focused on beating down Nelson that he misses Rivera tagging back in. Lee Rivera attacks a distracted Bobby Thomas and evens the odd once again after hitting his 450 Splash for the pin.
  • Nate and Destiny charge in. Nate tries to cheap shot Rivera. Jenny yells a warning from ringside. Rivera ducks and clocks Nate in the face. All the survivors brawl in the ring. The referee tries to restore order. His count is ignored. The ref pushes Shane Nelson back to his corner. Destiny and Nate team up on Rivera. Nelson complains but that makes the ref push harder to get him back on the apron. Rivera eats a flurry of fists but doesn't slow down. He's hitting both back as hard as he can. The referee is about to turn around when Nate Johnson drops to his knees, low blows Rivera then slithers out of the ring. Destiny slams Rivera to the ground and pins him for the 3-count.
  • Shane Nelson battles against his own doom. He gets some momentum, heels tag and he's underneath again. He hits a counter, it only gets two. Jenny slaps her hands on the mat, she riles up the crowd to will Nelson to keep fighting but it's all in vain. Nate Johnson, with his signature slimy grin, drives Shane Nelson's forehead in to the ring canvas with the Natural Order (Headlock Driver) for the pin. Nate Johnson and Destiny stand tall as the survivors of the match.

  • The DeColts have beaten The Elite before. They know their strengths, they know their weaknesses. They also know to expect the unexpected.
  • Jack: "Look, we've got them all at once tonight. They're not gonna be able to take us off guard like they did on Sunday. Everything's out in the open. We're the better team, if we just take 'em head on, we should be fine."
  • Alex: "I don't know, something doesn't feel right."
  • Jack: "What do you mean?"
  • Alex: "I'm not sure yet but I know they're gonna try something. Either they really think they can beat us, or they're gonna try something drastic. I know they are..."
  • Steve: "Well whatever they do, we can overcome it."

MATCH 4: Shooter Sean Deeley (C) vs. Ricky DeColt - CGC Canadian Championship

CGC_Canadian.jpg.30722168ad876e467cf0e526eb921a3f.jpg

ShooterSeanDeeley.jpg.25e953e35a991d3d5aa10d106a0b58f3.jpg VS RickyDeColt.jpg.8f84bd4d03a2bfab6496fd8085e87d2b.jpg

  • The match starts off slow. Ricky tries to feel Deeley out while the champion constantly circles and weaves to look for an opening. The bout picks up with Ricky trying to wear down Deeley with hit and run tactics. He tries to slow Deeley down with quick strikes and kicks then when Ricky sees an opening he'll fire away with fast running attacks and aerial maneuvers.
  • But Deeley is fast too. Scary fast. The champion is able to keep up with the challenger and make quick adjustments.. Whenever Ricky is able to fend off a hold or throw, Deeley finds away to break through DeColt's defense. Deeley yanks Ricky's long hair to manipulate his body. He wrenches away fingers to break guards. He grips DeColt's tights to gain leverage. Grinds his eyes across the ring ropes.
  • DeColt can't find an answer to Deeley's dirty tactics. Ricky goes high risk and throws himself off the top turnbuckle in a desperate attempt to turn the match in his favour. He knocks the wind out of Deeley but the champion grips hold of DeColt on the ground. Deeley cranks his arms around Ricky's neck. DeColt tucks his chin hard and tugs on Deeley's arms to defend the hold. Ricky tries to slide himself to the ropes, pulling Shooter's body weight along with him. The Champion rolls them both over so that he's lying on top of Ricky's back. The challenger starts thrashing around on the ground. The pair roll over again and Deeley has his hooks in tight across Ricky's neck. DeColt has no choice but to tap out.
  • After Deeley receives his belt and celebrates on his way to the back, a replay of the finish plays on the titantron from an alternate camera angle. While Deeley and DeColt were rolled over, out of view from the referee the champion stabbed his fingers into Ricky's eyes. Ricky thrashed his head around which allowed Deeley to sink the choke in.

MATCH 5: The DeColts vs. The Elite w/Adrian Garcia

AlexDeColt.jpg.6b197970a0d39468359ab7aad34a488e.jpgSteveDeColt.jpg.c9e6164219feaf6df37dbe9888c32f4c.jpgJackDeColt.jpg.c5a8f6fa1de9ff204df47001979e9fe9.jpg VS DanDaLay.jpg.b281f0b310d8251118b78554e6f06cc4.jpgJohnMaverick.jpg.ac90208236fada0e6b99a713abe54dc7.jpgEddieChandler.jpg.940ab9b0f12a7573a8c2ae8f886a4ed5.jpg

  • The match starts off slowly for a grudge match. Each team looking to find an opening to capitalise on but hesitant of making a fatal mistake.
  • The Elite gain the advantage by isolating Steve. Each member takes turns tagging in and beating down the eldest DeColt.
  • Steve manages to slip away from John Maverick. He gets the hot tag to Alex.
  • Alex starts brawling with Maverick. Steve slides out of the ring and recovers on the floor. Dan DaLay tags in and he and Alex start battering each other. There's no technique here. Just a lot of muscles and a lot of punches to the face.
  • DaLay plants Alex. Garcia signals to Chandler and Maverick. They make a scene by trying to get in the ring. The ref turns and yells to stay out. Garcia tosses DaLay a steel chair then joins the commotion. DaLay cracks it over Jack's head then breaks it over Alex's skull. Referee Francis Long turns to see the big man pick up and piledrive the world champion on top of the now jagged metal chair. DaLay mounts and repeatedly slams his elbow into his victim's head while the referee calls for the bell. Long has to throw himself over the now unconscious DeColt to stop the assault. It's 3 on 2 now but the champion isn't moving.
  • Maverick enters as the legal man and covers Alex. The referee has no choice but to count. John Maverick scores the pin over the World Champion and just like that teams are even again. Francis Long orders DaLay to leave. The big man bellows out a deep chuckle while he ambles back up the ramp.
  • Steve has to replace his brother in the ring. Jack is cradling his head at ringside.
  • Steve launches at Maverick with malicious force. He tries repeatedly to burst his elbow through the skull casing of Maverick's head. Maverick is able to slow the elder DeColt by pulling off a sneaky one leg takedown but he struggles to keep the much stronger man down.
  • The superior numbers of The Elite start to catch up on Steve. Jack, a streak of blood smeared across his face, is back on the ropes. Steve tags out. Jack comes in hot with wild but sluggish punches. It's clear he's running on auto pilot. His head is still ringing from the chair shot. Garcia climbs up on the apron with the dented chair, which is enough to distract Jack for just a moment. Chandler hits the Elitist Plex and scores the pin.
  • 2 on 1. An exhausted Steve DeColt against his two stalking foes. The Elite overwhelm the sole survivor with a lot of quick tags. Another Elitist Plex gets a two. Maverick tags in. He smells blood and goes for the Deadly Silence (sleeper hold). DeColt's on his feet but he's fading. Maverick squeezes the life from DeColt, trying to cut off his blood flow, trying to crush his jaw bone. DeColt's knees start to waver. In a last ditch effort he pushes backwards hard towards the ropes and both men tumble out of the ring.
  • The hold breaks on impact. He can breath again. Chandler rushes to throw Steve back in the ring to keep their advantage alive - so they can keep tagging in. Steve sidesteps like a drunken matador and throws Chandler square into Adrian Garcia. Steve rolls back into the ring then sprints to rebound off the ropes. He hits a recovering Chandler with a suicide dive then crawls back to the ring.
  • Steve pushes himself to his feet as Maverick climbs back in. Maverick lines up Steve for another takedown but DeColt rushes him first. Desperation forearms. Fists to face. Irish whip to a back elbow. Shotgun dropkick to a groggy Maverick. Maverick bounces off the turnbuckle and is swept into a DeColt Driver! That one's for his brother. Steve clasps around Maverick from the back. He pushes Maverick away then tugs him in for the rip chord clothesline - DeColt Stampede! 1...2...3! The scores are even!
  • Chandler and DeColt face off for a rematch of their clash two weeks ago. With Chandler's allies all gone, this one's nearly a fair fight. The Elite's last man tries to keep up with DeColt but he's brutalised with stiff knee and elbow strikes. There's no more grappling in this fight - it's a straight up slug fest. Chandler goes for a last chance takedown but eats a knee to the face. He's barely standing. Shotgun Dropkick! Chandler's reeling. DeColt Stampede! Steve collapses over Chandler - 1...2...3! The DeColts defeat The Elite!

Okay so that felt like writing a novel and a half. I may keep the more detailed write ups for PPVs but I'm going to definitely try practice brevity for the TV shows. I'm not sure if I'm going to start doing prediction contests yet. I think I need to get my footing first but it could be interesting to do at some point. I've also added a brief acknowledgements section on the first post.

Sunday January Week 3, 2007 - CGC Title Bout Wrestling

CGCTBW.jpg.2919fe99c596c1f9e2720fe9a2047d43.jpg

MATCH 1:...

KennyCallaway.jpg.4bb9fae6e4d00e3c951dc42d1072e59b.jpg

  • Stunning Stuart warms up in his corner. He gives the crowd a big smile and wave. Adrian Garcia has joined commentary again, still on the look out for new talent. Stuart is the exact opposite of what a prospect of The Elite should be. His wide eyed innocent smile should have disqualified him from even trialing for a spot and yet here he is, taking a chance on the road to money and fame.
  • Stuart's excitement shrivels and dies the instant his opponent emerges.

DanDaLay.jpg.51321b57dbc2867473c5fca13c21f42b.jpg

  • Dan DaLay lumbers to the ring. The hulking man's laugh syncs with Garcia's cackling over commentary.
  • The most notable, and frankly baffling, part of this match came when Stuart had the gall to try and lock up with DaLay. The big man hoisted Stuart up by his twig arms, threw him half way across the ring into the turnbuckles, then charged the young man in the corner. DaLay didn't even throw a clothesline. He literally just ran at Stuart and flattened him.
  • DaLay toyed around for another minute then hit the DaLay Down (Belly-to-Belly Piledriver) and stomped his foot down on Stuart's chest for the cover and the 3 count.

ANGLE: The War Has Just Begun

AdrianGarcia.jpg.0a264e3ec61729887a87c8d3c8a1b5f9.jpgDanDaLay.jpg.51321b57dbc2867473c5fca13c21f42b.jpgJohnMaverick.jpg.0384fb57dbc01b2c709602872b78e34e.jpgEddieChandler.jpg.7bd3019503e39abefedbf69f8acc8d28.jpg

  • Garcia joins DaLay in the ring and raises his client's arm. He grabs a mic and John Maverick and Eddie Chandler sulk down to the ring. They harden their faces with scowls but their footsteps are timid. They must stand tall with their team mates in the very ring they were pinned in two nights ago.
  • Garcia: "I'd like to take a minute out of everyone's time to say congratulations. I wanna give a big congratulations to The DeColt boys, Steve, Jack and Alex, let's give them a hand. You boy put up a great fight. You gave blood, sweat, and I bet there were even some fans around the country shedding a few tears for you. You overcame the odds. But you paid a hell of a price didn't you? I hear two out of three of you boys have been ordered not to compete tonight. Hey that reminds me, is Alex out of hospital yet? When you called us out you said you wanted to finally see who the better team was. And now here, in the aftermath of Elimination, we've put half your family out of action. The World Champion got pinned in the middle of this ring! So let me as ask you boys something, do you really feel like you won?"

JackDeColt.jpg.faf5bba1a13668c95682463b37382c9d.jpgRickyDeColt.jpg.6f3d9d6e2650bcb12c57f18db012ede9.jpg

  • The crowd pop out of their seats. Ricky and Jack, with a bandage patched across his forehead, stride out to the stage to answer The Elite.
  • "Do we feel like we won? To tell you the truth, I'm feeling a lot of things right now. I'm feeling this goddamn gash on my head throb every time I stand. I'm... WE... definitely feel like we've got some unfinished business we needa take care of tonight. YOU might feel like you accomplished something Friday night. Like always, you threw cheap shots, you broke the rules, and you did everything you could to break us. Now our older brothers are on the shelf. And the funny thing is, WE. STILL. BEAT YOU! It cost us two DeColts to beat you on Friday and we've got two more here to finish the job. The CGC fans are gonna see The DeColts kick some ass again tonight!"

  • We return from a commercial break to Ryan Powell and Zeus Maxmillion backstage.
  • Zeus: "So what do you think your chances are?"
Powell: "He's gonna sign me, man, he has to. I took the World Champ to the limit, I lead our team to the win on Friday, I got-
    Zeus: "YOU lead the team?
    Powell: Yeah, of course.
Zeus: Huh. I don't remember it like that.
Powell: I'm the one who gave Mr. Garcia the idea for a trial, I was the only guy who'd ever won a championship on our team, I got the win for our team, so yeah, I was the leader.
Zeus: Well I remember doing all the work, you sneaking in and pinning a guy I already had beat.
Powell: Like I just said, I was the team leader. I decided you'd done enough so I tagged in and sent you to stand on the sidelines, which you did, while I got the win.
Zeus: Okay. If it means that much to you, you were the leader. But if you ever steal a win from me again, I'm gonna bounce your head off the ring canvas, you understand?
Powell: I'll crack my knee against your face you stupid meathead!

AdrianGarcia.jpg.0a264e3ec61729887a87c8d3c8a1b5f9.jpg

  • Garcia: There's my boys! Just the two studs I was looking for.
Powell and Zeus are nose to nose. Garcia hurries over and they break away from each other.
Garcia: "Great work on Friday guys, you really shone out there. Sorry I didn't hang around to talk afterwards, you know, business calls. Anyway, I was so impressed by your teamwork that I wanna see you two in action again tonight! How's that sound?
Zeus and Powell glare at each other. Powell hesitates and the Greek speaks first.
Zeus: "I'll fight anyone you put in front of me." He glares at Powell again. "Anyone."
Powell: "I do anything it takes sir."
Garcia: That's great guys! Okay you two go warm up and get ready to give The DeColts hell. I'm counting on you okay? Great. See you soon.

  • Jack and Ricky as a duo are the least experienced team in the DeColt family. However they've been training together for most of their lives. They quickly take control of the match. Powell and Zeus can't get any momentum going. They fight all out like singles wrestler but get overwhelmed by the precision and teamwork of The DeColts.
  • The tide turns when Powell buckles Ricky with a boot to the kneecap. The Elite prospect pounces on DeColt and wails on him. Ricky fights to fire back up. In his desperation to keep the advantage Powell tags in Zeus. They show their first moment of teamwork and plant Ricky with a double suplex.
  • Zeus slams Ricky with his arsenal of power moves. Shoulder charges, clotheslines, snap powerslam. Zeus signals for the Thunder Bolt (Dominator). He wraps his arms around Ricky and throws him up to his shoulder - Ricky twists and clamps his legs around Zeus' head then throws him with a hurricanrana! Both men are down. The crowd scream for Ricky. Jack pounds on the turnbuckle. Zeus staggers up. He turns around and dives for Ricky's legs. Ricky throws himself forward. He gets the tag!
  • Jack bursts into the ring and flattens Zeus. He springs off the ropes and charges through Zeus again. The Greek manages to fire up and fight back. The match turns into a fist fight. Both men try to out brawl each other. Zeus' willpower is dominated by the brutality of Jack's wild force. Powell is screaming for the tag.
  • Jack picks up Zeus. The Greek sways on his feet, too groggy to see Jack clasp round his head with The End of Days (Dragon Sleeper). Zeus squirms in his trap. He blindly swings for Jack's face and tugs to escape but he's fading. Jack drags him to the corner and tags Ricky in. The young DeColt goes to the top rope, flies through the air and drives his elbow into Zeus' sternum and Jack drops at the same time for a reverse DDT. Ricky covers Zeus while Jack stares down Powell. Powell just stands and watches. The DeColt's defeat Powell and Zeus by pinfall.

  • The referee raises Jack and Ricky's arms. Adrian Garcia strides out with The Elite and orders them to attack. The three fighters march to the ring in formation with DaLay as the tip of the spear. • This distraction gives Steve DeColt enough time to race through the entrance curtain and hobble down to ringside. He's got two steel chairs and he throws one up to Jack. The Elite bail out of the ring and retreat back up the ramp as the DeColt boys stay ready for a fight. Zeus and Powell back off as The DeColts and The Elite stare down to close the show.
