The Gonzalez Family vs. Young & Wasted

The opening contest was an opportunity for Young & Wasted to show what they’ve learned so far as professionals while also giving the Gonzalez Family the opportunity to add another win to their record – their 2020 has been all wins so far.  Carlos Gonzalez’s career has been marked by ‘could be’ and ‘should be’ and he’s never quite gotten to the top where his name and skills would have you believe he should be. Marco has been pegged to be the future, it’s clear he’s supposed to be a big deal. Young & Wasted have a lot of potential themselves. The two graduates of WWA: USA have slowly been carving out a name for themselves. This was a good back and forth contest, both teams are fan favorites and neither team gained the advantage for long. Young & Wasted’s offense is all fast-paced. Lots of springboards and planchas and the like. The Gonzalez’s are brawlers and that’s what they focused on. The match was fast and furious and ended when Marco locked in the Latino Crab and forced Bret Kyle to submit.

In a decent match, The Gonzalez Family defeated Young & Wasted in 7:16 when Marco Gonzalez submitted Bret Kyle with a Latino Crab. Carlos Gonzalez carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. 34

Puerto Rican Power.png

FCW Commissioner Puerto Rican Power came out to the ring holding something that had a black velvet wrapping around it. Inside the ring, the living legend announced that next month FCW will be holding, for the first time, a tournament to crown the first ever winner of the Caribbean Cup. He pulled the velvet wrapping off the trophy and held it up for the crowd to see. 86

USAce.pngimage.pngHells Bouncer.png
USAce vs. Hell's Bouncer

After the commissioner’s announcement, we got our second match of the night. The young, patriotic USAce took on the almost seven foot tall Hell’s Bouncer. USAce was looking for a landmark win of his young career while Bouncer was looking to rebound from a rare loss last month against Ox Mastadon. This match was, as most people expected, all Hell’s Bouncer. He was slow and methodical and USAce bumped all over the ring for him. He made sure that Bouncer looked like the big bad FCW has consistently used him as. Bouncer got the win with the Damnation Drop.

In a decent match, Hell's Bouncer defeated USAce in 6:16 by pinfall with a Damnation Drop. 43

Joffy Laine.pngimage.pngXavi Ferrera.png
"The Jackhammer" Joffy Laine vs. Xavi Ferrera (c) w/ Clare South

Our first of two championship matches was up next. Xavi Ferrera, the reigning People’s Champion, is clearly well thought of in FCW and Joffy Laine has gotten several wins to start of 2020. The two men had a good, solid contest. Laine controlled the opening contest and then Xavi cut him off after a distraction from Clare South. Clare has quickly become an integral part of House of Handsome. Her and Xavi in particular have great chemistry together.  Joffy made the big comeback with his fists flying. He came within a fraction of a second of winning, but Xavi’s kick out was deep and desperate. Xavi hit a knee to the jaw and then hit a huge, massive High Impact Frog Splash that scored him the victory and the title defense.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Xavi Ferrera defeated Joffy Laine in 15:05 by pinfall with a High Impact Frog Splash. Xavi Ferrera makes defence number three of the FCW People's Championship title. 49

Ox Mastadon.pngimage.pngHandsome Stranger.png
Ox Mastadon vs. Handsome Stranger w/ Clare South

The next match pit former Puerto Rican Champion Handsome Stranger against Ox Mastadon. Ox has had several big wins and is looking to break into the Puerto Rican Championship chase. The crowd was really into this – helped by the fact they really hate Handsome Stranger, but Ox is also firmly established in their mind. The big man was impressive in the match. He used his size and impressive speed to keep Handsome Stranger from gaining an edge. Stranger, to his credit, bumped big for Ox. He made sure that Ox looked like a legitimate main event threat. Each time Ox got close to winning, the crowd roared. Handsome Stranger’s offense was limited and really he only won because he used the ropes to lift him up higher on a pin. The crowd hated that Handsome won, and Handsome was quick to get out of there.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Handsome Stranger defeated Ox Mastadon in 12:30 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. 44

Texas Death Match

Kip Keenan.pngimage.pngGiant Brody.png
Kip Keenan vs. Giant Brody

Next up, the Texas Death Match. This match was wild and the people were hooked from the opening bell. Kip and Brody beat the hell out of each other. They fought all over the gym with security struggling to keep the fans back. Both Kip and Brody bled in the match. They broke several tables, Kip clocked Brody with the ring bell, and Brody did one of the most impressive moves a guy his size could do, when he held Kip for a body slam and then ran up the ropes and moonsaulted backwards.

[A/N: See Shane Mercer]

In the end, Kip Keenan hit three straight Bell to Belly Suplexes on Brody and got the pin. Brody was unable to answer the ten count after that pin and Kip was declared the winner.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Kip Keenan defeated Giant Brody in a Texas Death match in 22:20 when Giant Brody was pinned with a Belly To Belly Suplex and could not beat a ten count. 54

FCW Banner.jpg

Kip Keenan.pngGiant Brody.png

Kip Keenan stood on the middle rope, bloody and battered but victorious. His blonde hair had blood in it. His arms were raised when suddenly Giant Brody hit him from behind. Kip fell off the ropes and Brody lifted Kip up in the air in a press slam and press slammed him from the ring through the ringside time keeper’s table. Security hit the ring to pull Brody to the back while medical personnel checked on Kip. 45

Frederique.pngimage.pngMutant.png
Frederique w/ Clare South vs. Mutant (c)

The main event of the evening was exactly what a main event needed to be. The veteran Frederique challenging the new champion Mutant in his first title defense. Mutant came out of the gate in control of the match. His power too much for the smaller veteran. Frederique resorted to clawing at Mutant’s eyes and then hitting him with a chop block to the knee. Frederique continued to focus on the knee of Mutant, trying to keep the bigger man off of his feet and from getting into any of his major offense. Mutant showed impressive selling skills, really struggling to stand and support weight. Mutant made a big one-legged comeback and ended up somehow hitting his Tina-Turner on Frederique and got the pinfall and the successful title defense.

In an exceptional match, Mutant defeated Frederique in 22:14 by pinfall with The Tina-Turner. Mutant makes defence number one of the FCW Puerto Rican title. 55

FCW Banner.jpg

Frederique.pngMutant.pngPuerto Rican Power.png

Mutant was celebrating his championship win. Frederique got the microphone and demanded they cut Mutant’s music and that Puerto Rican Power came out. The Commissioner did as requested and Frederique let him and the entire audience in attendance know that he quits. He is leaving FCW and never coming back. 65

Frederique inks major deal
The Pro Wrestling Reporter has learned that Frederique has signed an exclusive contract with United States Pro Wrestling. The deal is an eighteen month contract that we've heard is worth almost a half million dollars in guaranteed money. The 45 year old Frederique originally began his pro wrestling career in USPW as one half of the Flex and Pecs tag-team. He spent four years there before jumping to SWF where he had a twelve-year run. He's spent the last two years in Puerto Rico as one of the hottest heels in the company and an integral part of House of Handsome. He finished up his Puerto Rico commitments at FREEDOM of Speech where he put over Mutant in the main event and then promptly quit the company. Our sources have told us there is absolutely no heat between Frederique and FCW management -- that his storyline quitting was just a way to give the fans some closure on his run there. Everyone we spoke to in FCW had nothing but positive things to say about Frederique and that his veteran presence will be missed in the locker room.

Singles Match

Bradford Peverell.pngimage.pngDavis Wayne Netwon.png
"Hands of Stone" Bradford Peverell vs. “The Triple Threat” Davis Wayne Newton

The thirteenth annual installment of FREEDOM or Death started off with a match that was clearly put together for the internet fans. Peverell and Newton have long been regarded as two incredibly talented wrestlers, both of whom have never managed to make it onto a bigger stage despite their obvious skill. The two men went out and had an absolute barn burner of a match. It featured lots of action and really got the crowd going. Throughout the match, Peverell (who has been working recently for Gateway Championship Wrestling – which is why he has been missing from the past few FCW shows) kept looking for his big punch, but Newton kept finding ways around it. Newton got to really show his technical skills and really targeted Peverell’s punching hand. While holding onto Ryan Holland, Newton mule kicked Peverell in the crotch and took him down to the mat and locked in his STF for the victory.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Davis Wayne Newton defeated Bradford Peverell in 9:40 by submission with a STF after blatantly cheating. 54

Ricochet Ramone.pngRob Reynolds.png
The Gonzalez Family vs. Relentless (c) w/ Clare South

The Tag Team Titles were second on the card. The Gonzalez family has been surging in 2020, capturing victory after victory while Relentless has done a good job of holding onto the titles despite attempts by The Latino Kings and the Puerto Rican Boys to dethrone them. This was a solid tag team affair with The Gonzalez Family starting off strong and controlling the first few minutes of the match before Relentless was able to gain the upper hand. Relentless showed real solid team work – they’ve really been developing into a fine team. Ultimately, the Gonzalez Family was able to pull out the victory when Carlos hit the Flat Out on Ricochet Ramone to get the pinfall and get the Gonzalez Family the victory.

In a decent match, The Gonzalez Family defeated Relentless in 11:12 when Carlos Gonzalez pinned Ricochet Ramone with a Flat-Out. The Gonzalez Family win the FCW Tag Team titles. Marco Gonzalez was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. 37

FCW Banner.jpg

Handsome Stranger.pngDreadnought.pngJuggernaut Jones.png

Flanked by Juggernaut and Dreadnought, Handsome Stranger came to the ring. Stranger had a samsonite briefcase with him. In the ring, Stranger said that it doesn’t feel right for FCW to not have Frederique in it and he blames Mutant for running Frederique out. Handsome Stranger vows to run Mutant out of FCW and that’s why he has taken ten thousand dollars of his own money and will give it to any wrestler around the world who can come to Puerto Rico and put Mutant out of wrestling, out of Puerto Rico. 49

Kanishoki.pngimage.pngHells Bouncer.png
Kanishoki vs. Hell's Bouncer

Hell’s Bouncer continues to look to rebound after his shocking loss to Ox Mastadon a few months ago. The big man had his way with the former Sumo star Kanishoki, who looked like he was really struggling to keep up through the contest. Bouncer won it with his trademark Damnation Drop.

In an extremely short match, Hell's Bouncer defeated Kanishoki in 5:19 by pinfall with a Damnation Drop. 29

Cobra.pngimage.pngXavi Ferrera.png
Cobra vs. Xavi Ferrera (c) w/ Clare South

Xavi Ferrera looked to continue his successful reign as People’s Champion against Cobra. This was another solid contest all built around allowing Xavi to show off his athleticism. Cobra is a solid hand himself and was able to feed for everything Xavi wanted to do. In the end, it was Xavi’s High Impact Frog Splash that got the victory and gave him his fourth successful title defense.

In a decent match, Xavi Ferrera defeated Cobra in 11:36 by pinfall with a High Impact Frog Splash. Xavi Ferrera makes defence number four of the FCW People's Championship title. 43

Bull Wrecker.pngOx Mastadon.png

Bull Wrecker comes to the ring. He’s been out of action recently with an injury but he’s back now and he’s ready to rid FCW of Ox Mastadon. There can be only one bull of the woods in FCW. Ox comes out and the two men exchange heated words back and forth before agreeing to wrestle each other next month in a loser leaves FCW match. 40

The Latino Kings vs. The Council of Decay (c)

The World Six Man Championships were on the line next as OLLIE’s Council of Decay – Hijo Del Mephisto, Slayyer, and Hellspawn 666 made their FCW debut taking on the FCW mainstay Latino Kings. This was a real clash in styles as the Latino Kings – who present street fighter-esque characters who throw hands and have some wrestling ability against three consummate luchadores. The Council of Decay had a little name value from internet fans but many in the crowd weren’t really familiar with them other than they came with the World Titles so they must be a big deal. This was a physical match, a lot of brawling on the outside of the ring. Hijo Del Mephisto really shined – he was able to make it clear why he’s been a big deal in OLLIE for years, but in the end, he was hit with the Shooting Star Press from Hector Galindo and The Latino Kings won the World Six Man Championship.

In a decent match, The Latino Kings (Rudy Velasquez, Hector Galindo and Jesus Chavez) defeated Hellspawn 666, Hijo Del Mephisto and Slayyer in 19:06 when Hector Galindo pinned Hijo Del Mephisto with a Shooting Star Press. Jesus Chavez and The Latino Kings win the COTT World Six Man titles. 38

Kip Keenan.png

Kip Keenan came out to the ring. He was fired up when he said last month was supposed to be a statement win. He survived a Texas Death Match and got the victory over Giant Brody. He should be in line for a Puerto Rican Championship shot, but instead his body still aches with the pain of being thrown from the ring through the time keeper’s table. The bruises just went away. It’s been hell. A hell that he can’t forget. He tells Brody that they have to end this, once in for all. Since the Texas Death Match didn’t do it – since that didn’t finish this – since Brody is still an animal, Kip wants Brody in a Dog Collar Match. 50

Ash Campbell.pngimage.pngMutant.png
Ash Campbell vs. Mutant (c)

The main event featured PSW’s Ash Campbell (doing a favor for an old friend of his father) challenging Mutant for the Puerto Rican Championship. Since the passing of his father, Ash has been a different wrestler. A more motivated wrestler and he and Mutant really went at it. Mutant had the size advantage and controlled the beginning of the match with his size and power. Ash went to Mutant’s eyes and took control. Ash showed flashes of his father as he brawled with Mutant to the outside. Mutant sold his ass off for Ash. Ash whipped him into the barricade and Mutant hit it so hard that the portion he hit collapsed in on itself, bent and broken. Security was quick to get there to keep any fans from surging through. Ash was even able to snap suplex right onto the hardwood floor of the sold out San Juan Highschool Gym. Ash even hit a flying crossbody from the top rope to the floor. The crowd really started to get into it as Mutant made his comeback – all power spots. Ash flew around the ring for Mutant’s offense and when Mutant hit The Tina-Turner, Ash looked absolutely flattened as Mutant got his second title defense.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Mutant defeated Ash Campbell in 25:06 by pinfall with The Tina-Turner. Mutant makes defence number two of the FCW Puerto Rican title. 48

Davis Wayne Newton vs. Marco Gonzalez

Marco isn't ready for a big win (or any win, if we're being completely honest)

Carlos Gonzalez vs. Sheik Ali Al-Amin

Balancing out this side of the bracket, and it's not like Carlos sucks or anything.

Island Boy Apollo vs. Xavi Ferrera

House Handsome interferes to keep their guy strong.

Billy Russell vs. Curtis Shaw

Going over Billy Russell is something to be saved for a bigger star than Shaw.

Loser Leaves Town: Bull Wrecker vs. Ox Mastadon

This could go either way but I feel like Bull is a bigger name and more likely to have been picked up elsewhere.

King of Carribean Semifinal A: Carlos Gonzalez vs. Davis Wayne Newton

I could absolutely see Newton going over here but that would need Billy to work three matches in a night and I just don't think he's capable of that.

King of Carribean Semifinal B: Billy Russell vs. Xavi Ferrera

Xavi's definitely someone who deserves to go over Billy.

Puerto Rican Title Match: Akima Brave vs. Mutant (c)

There's no reason for Mutant to lose here.

King of Carribean Finals: Carlos Gonzalez vs. Xavi Ferrera

With Frederique having gone you need to build up a new number 2 guy in House Handsome and Xavi's the obvious choice.

I wanted to let people know this diary isn't dead or even on hiatus -- it was just a busy couple of weeks for me (the lead-up to winter break is always a busy time as a teacher) and then family commitments for the holidays. I hope to have the show posted in the next couple of days now that things have settled down.

Main Event

FCW King of Caribbean Finals
Carlos Gonzalez vs. Xavi Ferrara

Firstly, This is just wishful thinking from my part, please take him to the moon for me, but I also have some actual reasoning, first this would be an awesome final between some upper card wrestlers, that are not necessarily main eventers so you show they can also main event, this is also Champion vs Champion for the Trophy, so that your 2 finalists are champions, puts over your championships as they are actually held by top wrestlers and not just midcarders. And I think Carlos wins, because at least in the first edition you want to send the people home happy.

Semi Main Event
Singles Match
FCW Puerto Rican Championship/Bounty Match
Akima Brave vs. Mutant (c)

Guest wrestler vs Champion who got the title recently, this is just another match to put Mutant over without feeding him your own roster, is a classic and it works, nothing wrong with that.

Singles Match
FCW King of Caribbean Semi Finals
Billy Russell vs. Xavi Ferrara

I booked 3 faces and a heel in the semifinals, we need an actual heel in the finals, so it doesnt tank, also Ferrara is a prospect and champion, of course you could use Russell to put him over, this is the scenario when it makes sense, you give Russell a win earlier in the night so he puts over one of your top prospect heels.

Ok, I admit it, this will never happen, but come on, tell me this wouldnt be an awesome match to build to, firstly they are tag team partners and tag team champions, second they are family and third they are both fan favourites this is the type of match you wouldnt usually have an excuse to book, this gives you the chance to face your tag team champions and to make sense, its practically a once in a lifetime unless they break up, yes I know is face vs face, but Carlos can act as the de facto heel, he plays it better, and Marco just screams wholesome babyface, and if this match happens, I think Carlos wins, to show experience still matters, you can have all the potential in the world but sometimes is not enough, and Carlos is also popular so it doesnt hurt Marco to lose to his uncle.

Ox Mastadon vs. Bull Wrecker

I believe either someone got signed to a medium to large promotion or someone is a pain backstage you dont want to deal with, I will go with the Ox win because he has been booked stronger than Wrecker, showing up more times, also doubt you would put so much effort on building him up just to have him leave, also Bull Wrecker has a higher popularity spread in different areas, so its more plausible than he would be contacted as a more well known star in the US and Japan instead of the local star in Ox Mastodon,

Billy Russell vs. Curtis Shaw

Billy Russell is used as an attraction nowadays, his name alone brings people, he needs to be booked carefully and given big wins so when someone beats him it means something.

FCW King of Caribbean Quarter Finals
Island Boy Apollo vs. Xavi Ferrera w/ Clare South

Tag team former champion fighting young prospect, midcard champion, member of the top stable in the company, I cannot see this one going any other way.

Singles Match
FCW King of Caribbean Quarter Finals
Carlos Gonzalez vs. Sheik Ali Al-Amin

I feel the Sheik is the type of heel wrestler that would be used to put over the major babyfaces of the company, very humble from our head booker, he seems to be prioritizing company growth rather than personal glory, also Carlos is one of my favourite CVerse characters, I will always wish him to do well and see him reach for the stars.

Marco Gonzalez vs. "The Triple Threat" Davis Wayne Newton

Marco is the prince that was promised for FCW, yes he is as green as a lettuce, but you have to invest in him if you want him to reach the stars, he should at least get one win in the tournament this year, to make notice of his potential.
