Great match. These two put on a good show that really got the crowd going. Gagne picked up the win by submission after interference from Pvt. Kernodle and Slaughter at 7:40. B+

I was very disappointed in the quality of this match. These two usually put on a better show then this. SO with the pin after a DDT at 7:36. SO is improving in technical skills. D+

Great match that lifted the crowd. Very open match. The tide turned due to interference by Paul Ellering who had come down to ringside to watch. Roberts took advantage of this and hit the DDT and covered for the pin at 8:08. B

 

Ellering and Roberts continued to talk up the ramp and into the back.

Great Match that lifted the crowd! Very open for the first half of the match, but Zybszko takes control and hits the shoulder breaker for the pin at 8:02. B+

 

The camera catches Jos Leduc talking with Sir Oliver Humperdink backstage. What they were saying isn't heard on camera, and they stop when they notice the camera focused on them.

Another very good match saw these two good tag teams put on a good show for the fans. The performances lifted the crowd! Stan catches Jack with a lariat and covers for the pin at 7:54 to retain. Ole and Stan are both improving in technical skills. B

Great debut match for Leduc(we may have to look into signing him up fulltime.) He gives the AWA Champ all he can handle. But the Professor finally gets the advantage and hits the pile driver for the pinfall at 8:42. Leduc was off his game tonight. A

Harley Race v Dusty Rhodes

Excellent match. Worthy of a main event anywhere. These two have great chemistry and it showed. The match really lifted the crowd. Very open and entertaining match. Race gets the pinfall after interference from Piper at 9:32. After the match, Piper gets in the ring and smashes a chair over Dusty's head. Race laughs and he too is treated to a vicious chair shot. Piper stands over him and yells "Dress huh! I'll show you a dress!"

A excellent main event, Lewin made his first venture into the promotion a very good one as he took it right to the Nature Boy. He had actually gained the advantage and looked to be on his way to possibly winning the World Title when out of no where, Flair catches him in a small package to secure the win and retain the title at 14:54. Great match between these two. Very open and lots of brawling. The Spoiler comes down to ringside and distracts the ref and Ole, Piper slips out grabs a chair and wham. Lights out. He locks in the sleeper on the dazed Anderson and gets the win by submission at 11:18. B-

I was very disappointed with the outcome of this match(damn patch.) Very open match that saw all four competitors in control at some point. Race gets the pin after hitting Orton with a piledriver at 21:51. Race came out of the match looking good. C+

These two big men went at each other with a fury. Neither backing down. They brawled in the ring and out of it. The match ended with them fighting on the outside resulting in a double countout at 8:56. C+

Death of the AWA?

Alarm bells are ringing around the AWA offices as strong rumors are circulating that the company is set to make wide ranging cutbacks following a recent decline in business. Many on the roster are preparing themselves for the worst. Although it is said that the company will try to keep it's top stars in place.

These rumors as well as others sprung up late in the week as it was learned that the company had fallen to regional. This was on the heels of a run of shows that although they were recieved well, was losing money on virtually every outing. Head Booker 'Fred" could not be reached for comment. Reports are that owner Verne Gagne is very upset at the turn of events. Stay tuned as we will report any new news as it comes in.

 

 

Trouble everywhere?

The AWA was not alone, as AJPW also fell to regional size. It appears that vultures are circuling as crisis stricken AJPW will look to release several workers in the near future. Insiders say that the companies recent decline in fortunes means they need to cut back on expensive wrestlers if they are to survive and even the top stars are in danger of being let go in the next week.

 

In similar news the trouble also hits the SECW and SWCW

The fincial troubles also hit the SECW and SWCW promotions this week as they were forced to trim their rosters in an attempt to stay above water. All told the SECW released 10 workers and SWCW released 11.

Busy week of signings.

As other promotions struggle to stay afloat, the NWA spent the week resigning some of it's top talent. Head booker Huston Hartsell has confirmed that the promotion has resigned the following workers to PPA contracts: Nick Bockwinkel, The Spoiler, Jack Brisco, Skip Young, The One Man Gang and Tommy Young.

 

Industry Insiders have pegged Mark Youngblood

According to some published reports, industry insiders have pegged Mark Youngblood as one of the up and comers in the business. He is rising up the charts rapidly. He has been tabbed 'the one to watch.' 'Loaded with potential' and all he needs is experience and a break or two. He recently had a short run as the NWA Rising Star Champion.

WWF Signs Jim Duggan

The companies aggresive approach has netted them the services of Jim Duggan. He signs a PPA contract.

They have attempted to sign a multitude of talent over the last couple of weeks and have fallen short on alot of their targets. This week they were snubbed by Ken Patera. There are reports that he may recieve alarger offer in the next couple of days.

 

 

Another week another loss on Thursday night

The WWF's weekly PPV again lost out to the NWA's on Thursday night. The buyrate for In Your Neighborhood was 0.09(dropping) as opposed to the NWA's 0.13. Sources have said that this is a sticking point with head man Vince McMahon. And he has been in a very bad mood backstage. Stay tuned.

There are unconfirmed reports that these include Stan Hansen and Jerry Stubbs who both also work for the NWA.

It has also been reported that they have begun negotiations with Riki Choshu. He is considered one of their top stars and inside sources say that the company are confident that the deal will get done very soon without any problems.

 

The rumor mill is indicating that Killer Kahn is set to sign a contract extension to stay with the company within the next few weeks. There have been heavy rumors that he was going to be allowed to leave at the end of his current deal. But the current feeling is that this was false and he will now be kept.

VG "Damnit 'Fred', when I hired you I thought I was hiring someone that would take us to the top, not run us out of business. Look at us. We are dropping in prestige and losing money like it is going out of style. "

 

'Fred' "Verne, when you hired me I told you it would take time. I inherited an aging roster and need time to turn parts of it over. To get younger."

 

Dick "Here we go again with this youth movement crap. We were doing fine before you got here and started this youth movement."

 

'Fred' "I beg your pardon Dick, but there was a reason I was hired in the first place. Verne knew you guys would never let any of the old guys go."

 

VG "Stop it you two. This isn't going to get us anywhere. Look 'Fred' when I hired you I told you that I thought we needed to get younger. I believed in your vision and I still do. But I need you to tell me right now what you are going to do to turn this thing around."

 

'Fred' "Well the youth movement needs to continue. I think I have brought young talented guys into the promotion. We have signed the NWA guys with your connections with Crockett. These will give the young guys the time to develop. I have big plans for some of the new hires as well as the guys that were already here. I just need time to phase some of the older workers out."

 

Dick "Like who exactly?"

 

'Fred' "Worried Dick."

 

Dick "I'm not the one that has his head on the chopping block that'd be you."

 

VG "Gentlemen."

 

'Fred' "I'd rather keep my plans to myself for now if you would allow it Verne. I feel that with the present booking staff, if I come forward with my plans then there might be backlash from the older faction."

 

Dick "What the hell is that supposed to mean."

 

'Fred' "I just think that I'd better be able to implement my plans if I had total control."

 

Verne " You know with total control comes all the blame?"

 

'Fred' "Fully aware of that Mr. Gagne."

 

Larry "You're actually going to go along with this Verne?"

 

Verne "For right now, yes."

 

Dick "I can't believe this crap."

 

VG "Dick, I have given him the job. Now it is up to him to sink or swim. 'Fred' is there anything else that you want to say?"

 

'Fred' "Two things. Number one, Brody's contract is up. I'd like to resign him."

 

Dick "He just signed an exclusive deal with AJPW, I don't think he will reup."

 

'Fred' "I'd like to try Verne."

 

VG "I'll give you the okay on that. But I want you to really work on getting costs down and start turning a profit at the gate. You said two things?"

 

'Fred' "I'd like to bring in someone to place on the booking team."

 

Dick "What!"

 

VG "Who?"

 

'Fred' "Someone who has a great mind for the business and doesn't have any conflicts of interest."

 

Larry "Verne?"

 

VG "Okay. I'll give you that leeway. But I'm warning you. If you don't start showing some results, you won't be here much longer. And another thing, I want Greg in the main event scene."

 

'Fred' "Greg who?"

 

Verne just shot him one of those looks.

 

'Fred' "I'll see what I can do."

Insiders indicate that it was purely a business, a result of an attempt to reduce their bloated roster. They left open the possibility that the door may be open for him to return at a latter date.

Henning won the match but was taken afterwards to a nearby hospital where it was discovered that he he had a semi severed spinal column. He is reported to be out of action for 14 months and a week. Henning also works for the AWA. His loss will affect both promotions.
