  1. What am I even working on? Funny you should ask! I was just thinking I should update what still needs to be done and where I am with it.

    • Community Feedback - trying to integrate this as provided
    • Active Workers - really not sure how many missing active workers there are. There is one one roster I need to fill out (Florida Underground Wrestling) and probably quite a few others I could add. My list is only about 20 names long but I imagine there will be suggestions of missing workers for awhile
    • Future Workers - several hundred to go. HWRP's list is about 40 workers long at this point and my list is 240 workers, with some overlap between the two lists. I'm sure there will be many more. Don't feel like I need to have every yet-to-debut worker in the data for a full release but I definitely want more than we currently have.
    • Current Companies - this is equally about tweaking and missing data. There may still be some companies than need product tweaks and quite a few that could use financial tweaks (too many really indies start with several hundred K in the bank, which was required for survival on TEW 2016). I'm sure some are missing starting storylines, or could use more starting storylines than they currently have, or missing stables, etc. Completing the bios is something that I do need to complete.
    • Title Lineages - there are six companies that I know if that need lineages completed for at least some of their belts. Unfortunately, two of them are OVW and WWC, companies with long histories and lots of champions. So it takes awhile to get through them. WWC's lineages are truly painful. Would be easier if I wasn't trying to the # of defenses where possible. But I would like to have all of these completed before a full release. There are also a handful of alliance belts, with some more to add, that almost all need lineages. That's a bit less of a priority
    • Retired Belts & Lineages - I've been adding some inactive belts for both active and inactive companies, but have mostly skipped the lineages for now. Quite a few more I could add but these are just added detail, not required, so wouldn't hold up a full release for finish more belts or the lineages.
    • Images for Belts - many belts are missing cuts, or using cuts of a different type. While I would like to address this, its not a priority.
    • Future Belts - I held off on adding these for active companies as there isn't an ideal way to add them - active means they will be won and defended right away, retired means they won't. Can't really set them to be a future belt. But I will try to add more of them
    • Agers - not a requirement for release
    • Future Companies - need to do before release. Future companies aren't really polished and detailed. There are also some missing ones I could add.
    • User Characters - I have a list of some additions ones but not a priority
    • Free Pics - I got the first batch in, which is my own pack. There are additional packs (that others have released but I'm renaming) as well as renders that I will add over time. Not a priority.
    • Hall of Fame & Hall of Immortals - would like to address this before release. There are missing HoF cuts that will be needed, but entries need to be created.
    • Venues - the venue pack needs to be cleaned up a bit, as the regions revamp has messed it up a bit
    • Narratives - still need to add some narratives for company name changes, logo changes, broadcaster changes, and a few other similar issues
    • Testing - still need to do more testing. An area I have yet to look at really is the skill level and development of yet-to-debut workers. Anyone running test sims, please keep an eye on this and report anything notable, positive or negative.

  2. Those belts have been corrected. Keep an eye for any more. And I will be adding more retired belts going forward but lineages take awhile and I'd rather not focus on that yet. Do need to finish out the lineages of the active belts in the data sometime soon, however.

Sorry if this has been answered before. But, are you set on this picture pack for the mod? I just started it and a lot of the WWE roster is much newer pictures. To name a few Matt Sydal aka Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston. I have a very large picture collection that I've built over the years from other mods and my own cuts I could give you. They are KYKY though and I don't know how you feel about that.

Answering this here instead of the Hype thread. I'm pretty married to the Organic style pic pack at this point, but it is definitely still a work in progress. Its been assembled from a number of sources (SAMPP, nGo, Forlan, all with permission) and I've cut quite a few myself as well. I've also poached a few cuts from Steesh's 2010 pack, but many of those are also not date correct either for this mod.

So yes, I am aware that some worker cuts are not from 2013. I'd prefer if they were but I honestly haven't wanted to dedicate a huge volume of time to finding cuttable images that work for cutting, and then cutting them. The cutting them part isn't painful or time consuming, but finding them can be. Even with pretty well known workers, it can be tough to track down the specific year for images and then lots of year-appropriate images aren't particularly cuttable (image size and quality, angle, action vs promo shot, etc).

Now if someone wants to compile a list of workers that could use a more year-correct pic, that would be fine. I can keep that list and try to tackle it somewhere the road. If that list was to include cuttable images, that would be far more preferable and easier to address. I can either cut them or recruit someone to cut them. But I'm a bit picky about the cuts to use as I'd probably honestly have workers like Bourne and Kofi have good, clean, clear cuts that are a bit too new than a year-appropriate cut that is blurry or fuzzy because the original image is lesser quality or an action pic. I've already had to cut quite a few poor quality images because the worker is fairly obscure and there is literally only one image I could dig up so its not like that is completely out of place in the mod, but I would prefer to avoid it where possible.

  3. I am super excited about this announcement. I am new to the TEW community, but if there is anything that I can contribute I would be happy to do so. I am really invested in having a mod that accurately models schedules and cards in Japan from this era. I have been collecting data about show schedules in Japan in the 1980s (particularly for AJW) and would be happy to contribute.

AJW, you say? Show schedule, you say? Well, it just so happens that I've had a bear of a time figuring out the AJW schedule for this time period. Both Cagematch and Wrestlingdata are missing huge chunks of AJW from the early 80s. So any help in that regard would be highly appreciated.

  4. Update Posted - Beta Version 0.02

I have updated both of the links on the main page. The data is updated with all the changes and tweaks people have suggested, plus a few additional workers. The picture pack has the added cuts for those workers.

The biggest reason I'm updating is to hopefully get rid of the brands doubling issue some are seeing in the WWE. As I mentioned, Adam checked the master version of the data and it appears the issue isn't present in this, so if you delete the first version of the beta and download this one, it should get rid of it.

If it doesn't... well, you an get into the editor and that fixes the error, but since Adam isn't sure why it would still be appealing when my version of the data doesn't have it, it can be probably be reported and sent to him. And as mentioned, if its happening to you but you are using an unpatched version of the game or are not in Admin mode, those could be the reason.

  5. I have to say that reading some of the positive responses has me feeling warm and fuzzy and validated.

One thing that has been mentioned a couple of times is adding in more "old" tag teams. Not current active ones but past ones. So if you think of any that are missing like Edge & Christian, please post em!

I'm uploading the updates and will post those soon.

Loving the mod so far, BP. One little thing I noticed: LuFisto is set as male.

Otherwise, looks awesome. I love the work you did on the bios in particular.

    She has been corrected.

Thanks! The bios have been fun to write but I've gotten lazier as the mod progressed. I've also been adding workers I know less about and many that are yet-to-debut, which generally don't have a ton of info to include.

This mod is absolutely fantastic. The best real life mod out on 2020, I have been having a blast with this. Half of a year in TNA game, been so screwed with backstage problems and hulksters, now everything looks brighter except for my money. This mod is pure joy and very well balanced.

I rarely play a WWE game in TEW but this seems like one I could have a joyful WWE run. Can't wait for update. Been writing up few fixes but I see those have been told already lol (like missing tag teams, double brands etc)

    Thank you, kind sir.

TNA is definitely supposed to be pretty challenging. I was hoping to be able to balance TNA so that the AI maybe didn't always succeed, but that seems tough to pull off. But for a human booker, the intent is to push into making some hard decisions about the backstage and the finances. Some of the contracts are a bit inflated for that reason.

A couple of months into my first save with the mod and have to say I'm very impressed BP. Can clearly see a ton of work has gone into everything including the bios that have been fun to read.

After the earlier changes, it's cool to see the joshi scene feeling alive and accurate to 2013. Io Shirai and Threedom are putting on quality matches on every show for the AI, which is very much what was starting to happen around this period. I'm booking Sendai Girls and Meiko is pulling good ratings against everybody, again realistic for the time.

Will try to keep a list of any other potential things to look at, but thus far very very impressed!

Much much appreciated. As I've mentioned to you, joshi isn't the strongest area of knowledge for me but I was keen to make it feel vibrant and full.

There are a LOAD of future joshi workers that still have to go into the data. Hopefully that makes the scene even more fun and full.

Missing workers and missing veterans who could be road agents is something I'm keen to add to all game areas but especially for joshi.

Not wrong. I've just made it to the end of 2013 and Io has carried my half-assed booking pretty far. Female wrestler of the year and responsible for 8 of my top 10 matches (And as a bonus the top 3 all also involved Kairi with my MOTY being a straight 1v1 between the two... Which I admittedly intended as a throwaway title defence for Io en-route to a blowoff match between Io and Nanae.)

Anyways, just a few observations I've made (Not that I'm necessarily the best person to ask):

    - I feel like "100% Babyface" doesn't suit Azumi. She has had a few solid showings as a "cocky brat" heel.

    - Emi Sakura only appeared once in STARDOM - a 15 minute draw against Nanae Takahashi in May 2013. Might be worthwhile to update her contract to reflect that.

    - Starting Stable for STARDOM: Kimura Monster-gun (Kyoko Kimura, Alpha Female, Hailey Hatred and Christina von Eerie.)

    - Ayesha Raymond, Hudson Envy, Dragonita and Kaitlin Diamond should be set to be able to work in Japan

And finally, I'd like to thank Bigpapa42 and everyone else who has worked on this mod, it's already looking incredibly fleshed out and I can't wait to see how your final vision of it comes off.

    Thanks and much appreciated.

I've added the tweaks in and look forward to anything more you notice. Glad you are enjoying!

Nakamura in 2013 isn't a Canny Operator, he didn't go to WWE until 2016. At this moment of his career he's still the King of Strong Style and a NJPW guy.

He was holding back in unimportant matches back then too

While a ton of workers can do the "canny operator" technique to some extent, Nakamura had a rep among fans even back then. I'm not a puro expert by any means, but I've heard / read it mentioned in several places. I honestly meant to have the Attribute on him before it was suggested. Like any attribute, however, if it turn out to be problematic in testing, it can be adjusted. Realism matters.... but so does gameplay.

Welp in 7 weeks of game time with WWE, we’ve fallen to Medium. WWE Payback was a flop at 72 Overall. Jericho vs Orton for the World title ME, and the crowd burned out during the match, even with a cool down prior.

Planning on unifying the titles earlier than real life at MITB PPV

Sounds fun! The WWE don't have THAT much wiggle room. I don't love that but having the company popularity that much higher in the US means that they don't have any Major Stars unless the worker popularity goes up, which means re-scaling and making things (theoretically) easier.

  6. Cannot wait for this. This era was when I got into wrestling, especially the NWA & WCCW.

Awesome! You will be one of the folks I'll be counting on for expertise then lol

Love this. I've always been incredibly intrigued by how earth-shattering the period about August '83 to August '84 was for the wrestling industry -- Inoki's Brazilian scandal that led to Tiger Mask leaving and the formation of the UWF, Starrcade '83, Hogan jumping from the AWA, David Von Erich dying, Black Saturday (and the ramifications for GCW, Crockett, WWF/Wrestlemania, and Mid-South), the WWF/MTV alliance, WWF buying Stampede and Maple Leaf and ownership changes in Montreal, etc. There was also some interesting stuff going in Mexico in 84/85 -- lucha libre was banned on TV in Mexico City, but AWWA briefly got onto TV there. They got shut down in 84, only for the lucha libre union to successfully challenge that law in 85, although it took years for lucha libre to return to TV. I always thought it was interesting that if the AWWA had been able to challenge the law before losing their show, they might have been able to use TV to challenge the traditional (and much more conservative) companies in Mexico. There's so many interesting alternate history jump-off points from that one year.

I'd probably want to play the game from November or December '83, but that should be easy enough to edit.

I thought about late late 1983 as the starting point. Backlund is still the champ in the WWF. You can do the first Starrcade with MACW. I just always find the game is a bit smoother with a start date in January or closer to mid-year. With November or December, the awards end up really wonky.

Good to know about lucha libre on TV. I'll have to try to take that into account.

    Good luck buddy.

    Thank you good sir!

  7. Okay, so touched base with Adam on the issue some folks are seeing with brands doubling. Its something that was patched out awhile ago and the editor should be checked for it, which is why going into the full (pre-game) editor removes it. He checked the master copy of the database that I've been edited and adding to and the issue is not present. So later today or possible tomorrow, I will upload the updated data and picture pack. I would just like to get through most of the suggestions and corrections provided before I do that since I could do any yesterday.

If the issue is appearing for anyone who isn't using an updated version of the game or isn't running in admin mode, those could also be a factor.

Second issue - and I will add this both to the ReadMe file and the first page of this thread.... anyone looking to book the WWE may want to strongly consider changing the product. While the current product isn't inaccurate, its meant more for the AI rather than for the user. You may see better results in switching to another variant of Sports Entertainment.

Similarly if you intend to book TNA, you may want to consider editing Dixie Carter's personality. The scumbag personality was meant to try to have TNA emulate some of the shady practices they have done under her leadership rather than truly represent her.

Manny Garcia has 100% heel, say what you will about No Way Jose, but he was definitely a capable face, peppers parks should be pepper parks, travis banks has stalwart, regardless of opinion on the scumbag thing he really shouldn't be a positive influence

Yeah, not sure if Manny was a finger split or residual data. But that will be changed.

Was sure I had already changed Banks but I guess not. BTW I have adjusted a number of those named as abusers in the Speaking Out movement but not systematically everyone. So you may notice others. Please point them out. Thanks!

Man wrestling was kind of bad in 2013. John Cena vs. Ryback is the big program in the WWE, other notable feuds are Mark Henry and Sheamus and Show and Orton. Aces and Eights has already been dragging for a while, Brooke Hogan's marriage angle, the X Division seemingly in shambles. There are some great futures ahead for both companies with some good talent in both OVW and NXT but at the start of the game, whew you got your work cut out for you :)

I like to think that both the WWE and TNA are both more about the potential the companies have at this point in time. Its honestly very easy to forget how much absolute dross a company has a given point in time unless you go back and really look at individual shows and storylines. I've run into that a few times when looking at different points in the 2008-2018 time period at the WWE or TNA either for a mod or for a possible fantasy booking project. I'm always struck by how much absolute crap was happening at any given point. Often a few good things to offset, but quite often not enough.

Thanks for reminding me I have to add Brooke Hogan yet.

A judgement call but I would consider removing Young Bucks from ROH. They didnt work there from August 2012 until August 2013, the AI will use them over a lot of the regulars since they are so over. On the other hand they won't be hired by them since they already have so many employers.

    - Katsuyori Shibata and Hirooki Goto are best friends.

    - Hailey Hatred could use a looking at, she's more over than 90% of the PWG and ROH rosters in the US and 95% of the active Joshi scene in Japan.

    Some product suggestions:

AIW: Product might be better off as "Three Ring Circus"? They are/were one of the indies consistent with booking a lot of locals and running long term stories as opposed to dream match indie, as well as the not infrequent big nostalgia name. Closer to 50/50 on the in ring vs pop scale most likely, but they also had very bloody feuds as well. From being to multiple AIW shows, this feels right (mostly because dangerous matches are penalized by seemingly everything else).

EVOLVE: Perhaps the product should be even more slanted to the in-ring side than it currently is, the respectful wrestling from AIW might fit better. Should be main event focused (were still doing UFC style event names).

WWE might be better off as Classic SE or at least something that wont have long matches be penalized as much, since this was the middle of the Shield era and 2-3 segment TV matches were regular. SummerSlam 2013 had two classic matches over 25 minutes, both get penalized based on the current product.

Dragon Gate: Stables should be integral

K-Dojo I don't recall being too much wacky at this time to warrant avantgarde product. 30 min matches weren't infrequent either but the problem is it doesn't seem like anything else would fit.

    Random Attributes for Consideration:

Cesaro: Tag Team specialist (and imo is a top 5 tag worker ever at worst)

    Chris Jericho: Giving Performer

    Dean Ambrose: Shuns Social Media

    Kane: Outside interests (politics)

Sheamus: A least a neutral personality?

    Ryback: Explosive In Ring Style

    Matt Bloom: Future Road Agent

    Tyson Kidd: Future Road Agent

    Jason Jordan: Future Road Agent

    Roderick Strong: Fitness Fanatic

    RD Evans: Very Creative

    Jimmy Jacobs: Creative Dynamo

    Christopher Daniels: Future Road Agent

    Meiko Satomura: Giving Performer

    Shinsuke Nakamura: Canny Operator

Awesome, thanks. Great suggestions. And it reminded me to make a note about the WWE product. Its definitely not the idea variant of SE for a human user, but it works pretty well for the AI. As weird as it sounds, its not really ideal for the WWE-run AI to book as efficiently and effectively as it possibly could. Which is not an easy thing to make happen. But with a roster as talented as the WWE, if the AI has things maximized, the grades will be overwhelming strong, which isn't realistic and things have to be nerfed or limited in other ways.

Wrestling was bad in WWE and TNA but pretty great everywhere else.

That's my thought. There are a number of companies doing some awesome things and quite a few who have a lot of potential. I keep coming back to the huge volume of talent available in Australia and think how fun it could be to run one of those two companies.

Thank you for this explanation, I thought this might've been the case.

Two more things I took note of while looking the game over.

I think Kurt Angle should have addiction attributes added to him. He checked into rehab in August(?) of 2013 following a DUI. IMO I think he should have heavy pain killer (reportedly he was taking 67 Vicodin a day), (heavy?) drinker, former steroid user (claims it was for his neck and had a failed test), (former?) hard drug (depends on what you classify Xanax as).

Also noticed there is Rose Garden Arena (Portland, Oklahoma) and Rose Garden (Portland, Oregon). The Rose Garden (now known as Moda Center) is in Portland, Oregon. I see this in multiple mods and the arena being listed in Oklahoma is a personal pet peeve haha

As bulldog mentioned below, the problem with substance abuse issues is that it can make the worker all but unusable. Similar to the negative personality dynamic. It can have a huge influence on their match ratings. I will adjust but its something we may have to watch when someone tries out TNA.

Good catch on the arena. I still have to go over those but its lower on the list.

they might be on your list already, but Danhausen and Effy, would be good future workers to add, also if you haven't already thought about it maybe Andy Williams (The Butcher) should start with some pop, not necessarily a lot, but he's in a popular enough band that his name would already have been recognizable to some, ( remember I lost my debit card at a Smash Wrestling show and when I mentioned it on the phone call with the bank, the woman, said "oh yeah, Andy Williams wrestles for them" or something to that effect, she was not a wrestling fan, but had heard of Smash Wrestling because of Andy Williams.

Interesting on Williams. Will a low level starting popularity, which will help him get booked faster than the zero he has now.

Danhausen and Effy are indeed both on the to-add list.

Angle said on his episode of Broken Skull Sessions that by the time he had joined TNA he had stopped with the pills and that he was just drinking heavily. His problems never affected his in ring work. The problem with the addiction attributes in TEW is that it makes people indulge in their vices before the show, which Angle claims he never did. That's the only reason I would be hesitant to give most people addiction attributes.

That's exactly what makes me hesitate on some of the personal issue stuff.

angel ortiz has can't play offbeat/unstable, he seems capable of being pretty out there when he wants to be

    Adjusted! Thanks!

Will you be releasing an update any time soon with everything from this thread and the google sheets? I was trying to do it manually, but there's just so much.

Well, I wasn't going to, but since you asked.... YES!

I actually need to because of the brands doubling issue but will try to get some of these updates in first. I've also added a few workers so a bit of a bonus. I don't know how often I'll do updates as we move forward. You are certain welcome to use the info in the Google Sheets to update yourself but please be aware I'm also adding to the data from my own list of things that are missing or incomplete.

  8. You could always set WWE to a fixed schedule to keep the longer build for Mania.

Beyond that maybe adding Fastlane a couple years early?

Fastlane is a good shout. Thought about just setting the schedule to Fixed but kinda feels like something should be there.

Ok, so going back to the 70 rating shows on WWE.

I am now just a month in, getting 75-82 A show ratings, pending what storyline I’m working that night. So it’s feeling better.

Put on 85 rating at Extreme Rules, with CM punk losing to Cena in the main event.

So it’s feeling real good right now. I’m not sure in 2013 there would’ve been many 90+ shows or events from WWE.

That sounds fantastic. And pretty much right where I hoped, grade-wise.

Typos: Jim Smallman's bio says announcers, when it should just say announcer mark Andrews' says talen instead of talent, and, Kevin Steen's bio says Lookedd with an extra d

I noticed Okada didn't have NJPW loyaty set, not sure if this is deliberate, same for naito

Ahh the endless typos. Good eye. And nope, didn't intentionally leave loyalty off for those two.

Hey, for my first comment on the forums I just wanna say this mod seems great for the small time I've played it! Quick small fix however: Maybach Taniguchi Jr. (an alter ego for SUWA) was GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag champ with Genba instead of Maybach Taniguchi (as is the case in the mod). Then around March 2013, he lost the mask and gimmick, returning to being SUWA. That's all I've got for now after reading through things already mentioned, if I find more I'll be sure to follow up.

Good catch. Thanks! And welcome to the forum!!!!

@BigPapa where should we post suggestions for new workers? I've been looking through graduates for WWE PC and noticed a couple missing that could be added to the data.

Got a few options, depending on what you prefer. Posting in here works fine as I tend to keep an eye on it. I have also set up a Google Sheets set where you can add specific feedback, as there are different sheets for different areas of the data. And also a specific email account. The email is probably easier if its a large volume. Otherwise, take your pick

Thank you I appreciate you. I thought for sure I was just looking for them wrong before I ask I try just about every known name for someone before I give up and ask haha. I know Shaul is a weird one since she's kinda been in and out of the business and mostly operated on the fringe.

I'm the same. I will check every possible name I can think of for the person, just kinda assuming there are there and I'm just missing it. It doesn't help when every modder is a bit different in what they go with for names. I'm not 100% consistent on that either. I tend to go with their "standard" wrestling name or their real name if they are a WWE-only worker. So Seth Rollins is in there as Tyler Black but Roman Reigns is Joe A'noia.

I am hoping the community do point out more missing workers. I know there are quite a few. One technique I've used heavily is looking at the rosters of companies in the data in 2013 and later years to see who they used. But I'm sure I'll still miss plenty. Non-wrestlers is an area where that technique doesn't help much. At some point, nearer to this being done, I will spend some time trolling through other RW mods looking for workers to add.

Someone like Shaul might not be a regular wrestler but she still brings something interesting to the mod. The family legacy alone means some folks are going to want to try to see if they can do something with. Legacy talents are great for world-builing IMO.

  9. Can't wait man. All of your projects are super high quality so I know this one will be great.

Thanks. Long ways off but hoping this one delivers.

I love that there are only 18 workers in the data. I mean I don't love it because this likely means its a long long ways off, like still commenting in this thread in a year ways off but on the other hand its exciting to see this literally at the ground floor and be able to follow the journey along with you. I just downloaded your other mod. Good luck and most importantly try to enjoy the journey yourself.

I honestly wasn't going to put how many are actually done but thoughts its kinda funny. That number would grow pretty quick if I focused on this but I just do a worker here and there for a distraction from TYM. There are about 250 workers in the mod in total but most of those are the "blanks", which is just a name on a template worker.

Definitely trying to enjoy the process. One thing I do really enjoy about this process is that my knowledge of the 1980-1984 period is weaker than the rest of the decade, so I'm having to learn stuff. Even just adding the work history for a given worker can be eye-opening, as you can discover they spent a ton of time working for a territory that you never associated them with.

  10. Meant to ask this in my previous post... Regarding the WWE PPV schedule. Currently have WM to take place in late March, but there is no April PPV so the AI creates one. I could push WM back but then the same thing would happen in march. Anyone have suggestions on PPVs to drop into March or April so the AI won't?

I never really tested it, but can you hide a "Personality" attribute?

You can hide any Attribute. A few are but most are visible.

  11. I could not find Famous B is he not in the game? I couldn't seem to find Maxine AKA Catrina or Karlee Perez under any of those names. I couldn't find Shaul Guerrero under that name or her Raquel Diaz name.

All were missing. All are now added. I had Famous B and Shaul on my to-add list. Legit thought I had Karlee Perez in there but nope. Weird.

Shaul is a bit of a weird one because she left the WWE but apparently remained under contract for a time. So I have her under contract but on a starting absence.

And for everyone, please continue to point out anyone who seems to be missing. There absolutely will be some workers who are and I would much rather have someone ask so I can make sure.

I feel quite guilty getting credit as I spent most of my time enjoying the actual game than giving feedback.

Great stuff Bigpapa42, hope to see a diary or pop up

Nothing wrong with that. But you did definitely help and it is appreciated.

Just a few things I noticed well starting as WWE:

Big E debuted in December 2012 (aligned with Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee)

Speaking of AJ, she was managing Dolph at this time

Summer Rae was managing Fandango but it's missing

The Shield is listed as debuting in November 2013, but actually debuted in 2012

NXT Women's title is missing a cut, it debuted in June 2013

Big E is a difficult one. He was with Dolph and AJ on TV but he was also still in NXT. I would leave him on the main roster but he was NXT Champion at this point and that's not really workable. So I left him in NXT as a compromise as that keeps the title lineage accurate. and someone wanting to book him in the WWE can either call him up or just "borrow him".

Added Summer Rae and adding AJ.

Added the NXT Women's belt as well. Was overlooking belts that were introduced after but it looks like it was technically introduced in April 2013. Regardless, the AI will likely just create one so its in there now.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that by saying they shouldn't be unemployable, you mean in 2013, because they absolutely should be as of now, with that said I will acknowledge that there's a key difference in that in TEW when Awful people do awful things, it immediately becomes public knowledge unlike real life where awful people can hide it, sometimes for years, sometimes for lifetimes, and I can see how that's a difficult thing to work around for mods set in the past when it's known that they kept their scummy behavior hidden for years, or in Elgin's case, somehow manages to git it brushed under the rug twice before the third one got him.

And yeah, exactly. They were employed in 2013 and beyond. They probably shouldn't have been - its not like the behaviors only started later, but the reality is that those who could have taken such actions and may have been aware of the issues didn't care enough to take action, which is a bit horrifying. But they were. With a negative personality like Troublemaker, they will still be difficult to manage on a roster and have a decent chance of having the kind of incident that gets them fired. As a Scumbag, those incidents will absolutely happen and they tend not to stay on AI rosters either, which is where it gets messy. I think I'm a bit more concerned with how the AI emulates with them than for a user, because I figure someone who plays a company with them who doesn't want them will fire them, and someone who wants to use them may just edit the personality regardless of what it starts as.

I am 1000% okay with people not being employed or employable because they are awful people and have done awful things. If this mod was starting current day, a lot of those guys who definitely be Scumbag personalities and some with scandals to keep them out for awhile.

Brave New World - January 1984

    Details

    Start Date: January 1984

Estimated Release Date: Literally No Idea

No real reason to post this, but also no real reason NOT to post this. My focus is still on the May 2013 mod but I have done a small amount of work on the next project... titled Brave New World, a mod starting in January 1984.

This mod will be fully from scratch for TEW 2020, with no imported data.

    Why January 1984?

Mostly nostalgia. Some backstory - because why not... I'm a child of the 80s (although born in the 70s), so the 80s are pure nostalgia for me. I grew up on WWF and Stampede Wrestling. I can remember watching WrestleMania III at a neighbors house because they had a satellite dish - one of those monstrous ones. Awhile back, I got on an 80s nostalgia kick. Seemed like every show I was watching or every podcast I was listening to was somehow related. I went back and watched some territorial era wrestling from the early 80s and had to translate that to TEW, obviously. But I couldn't find the exact right mod to scratch the itch just right. The Golden Age is one of my favorite mods, but the WWF was already too big and had too many stars, and the territories were pretty much done. I also love Matty Shannon's Risky Business and had some fun with it, but I still felt like I wanted to be earlier. 1980 was a bit too early and 1983 sounded but I don't think a proper update of DOTT ever got released. So I started to mull doing a mod...

At first, I thought maybe converting over Risky Business, but that's being done. Maybe using that or TGA as a base to move back to an earlier year (with permission, of course), but the depth of work required to convert made me rethink that process. Felt like it would go very messy. so maybe something from scratch. I didn't lock onto a set date yet at this point.

I chatted with a few folks, some of whom are extremely knowledgeable. And the options just kinda naturally narrowed. Options like 1986 and 1988 just felt too late. 1983 was appealing but a bit too early. So somewhere between late 1983 to mid 1985. From 1983 to 1984 kinda feels like this transition point in both the wrestling industry and society (at least here in North America). It seems weird to call the 1970s and early 1980s an age of "innocence", but it kinda was. Or at least an age of respect for traditions, and it gave way to this era of glitz and glamor, style over substance. That applies to wrestling and to culture. So I started looking at specific events in wrestling in the year from later 1983 to later 1984. But the very start of 1984 just made sense.

In America, Vince has only begun putting his stamp on the WWF. Hogan has been hired but hasn't won the title yet. The roster is still heavily guys from the Vince Sr era and the athleticism added in 1986 and 1987 is still miles away. And because the hiring spree hasn't really started yet, the territories are still loaded. Georgia Championship Wrestling is still around. David von Erich hasn't passed away yet and WCCW is still pretty hot. MSW is doing good business and great booking. Jim Crockett has just promoted a very success first Starrcade.

In Canada, Maple Leaf Wrestling and Stampede Wrestling are both still around.

In Mexico, the UWA is doing pretty good business and is a legit threat to EMLL.

In Japan, the group of New Japan talent that would leave to form the UWF in later 1984 is still on the roster but the seeds have been planted. Tiger Mask I has already left. The golden generation for New Japan would debut in later 1984 as well. All Japan has a wonderful combination of current stars and young talent (Tsuruta, Tenryu, Misawa, and Kowada), plus some great gaijin talent. And AJW was absolutely loaded with talent.

In the UK, there was talent like Rollerball Rocco and Marty Jones.

Basically, it makes for an interesting divergence point in my opinion. You are still a bit away from having PPV. Its a race to see which of the territories can pull ahead and start to lock down the key talents, and steal from other territories. I feel like a lot of companies would be interesting to run.

One upside is that game world at the start of 1984 feels a bit smaller. There are 31 companies in the data currently and I expect to have somewhere just over 1000 active workers. There will need to be a lot of future workers, obviously, but they tend to be easier to create.

    The Methodology

I'm not sure anyone really cares about this so skip if you need. But some seemed to find it interesting when I explained my methodology for the 2013 mod. For that one, I wanted to emulate the overall gameworld balance of the Cverse and Tverse, so I used the idea of slotting. Basically I created the RW workers by finding a worker in the CV or TV who filled a very similar role (talent, popularity, etc), imported them, and converted them over. It worked in the sense that I like the balance that The Yes Mod offers. But it also presented some negatives. But I didn't even consider that method in large part because the game world is so vastly different than either the CV or TV. It is, quite literally, a different time.

When I started out with a blank database, I did import the basic required data (names, angles, etc). And then I started creating companies. When I moved onto starting to create some workers, I stumbled into a method. Basically, I created a set of templates that are the bare outline of a worker in a given region. One for US male worker, one for US Japanese worker, etc. They provide a baseline of skill and popularity. I can then clone the appropriate template and add the name to create workers. Of course, that isn't actually the worker - its just an outline. I can go in and add in all the details, skill them appropriately, given them more correct popularity, Attributes, etc. So what's the point of having that outline worker first? Well, an issue I ran into on TYM is that I wasn't systematic in adding workers to a given area of the world. I quite intentionally skipped around. The upside to this was seeing all of the game areas fill up. The downside was that it made testing all but impossible until I was well into the process of adding talent. Focusing on a given area and filling it in has a major advantage in that regard... but I feel like jumping around was helpful in avoiding burnout. By using the "baseline worker" method, i can create a bunch and fill a given roster with workers who are just useful enough that I can sorta see how a company will grade.

Another element I learned from TYM is that tweaking things from testing and from feedback is vital. So with that in mind, the intent won't be to get everyone "perfect" in terms of skills, popularity, etc, but just get them decent. The testing and feedback process will therefore be even more important. In a way, its crowd-sourcing the polish to a mod.

  13. Found some Desperado candidates (that i am familiar with) for you to consider that are still working as of 2019-2020. Granted, i don't really know how exactly this attribute works, so it probably won't aply to all of those guys.

Ken Shamrock, El Hijo del Santo, Masakatsu Funaki, Blue Demon Jr., Blue Panther, Daisuke Ikeda, El Felino, Ephesto, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Ikuto Hidaka, Jun Akiyama, Kazushi Sakuraba, Kazuyuki Fujita, Koji Kanemoto, Kurt Angle (maybe?), Marcela, Mephisto, Minoru Tanaka, Ricky Fuji, Rob Van Dam, Sanshiro Takagi, Satoshi Kojima, Scott Steiner, Shigeo Okumura, Shocker, Takashi Iizuka, Takashi Sugiura, Taru, Tiger Mask IV, Togi Makabe, Virus, Yuji Nagata, Yukio Sakaguchi.

Also found that Mammoth Sasaki's age is wrong, he's actually from 1974. And Yoji Anjo is in the database as Yoji Ano.

Awesome feedback. I'll work on getting the Desperado tacked on for these guys.

Ugh, that was my fear, appreciate the explanation! Guess that'll just have to be something you can really only do if you play as NXT.

Yea, if someone wants to book NXT and wants to put Regal in the ring, it can be edited before the save starts. Or possibly during a save - not sure on that.

First off thanks for this mod! Seeming a perfect time period for my liking.

Secondly, I can not get over 78 booking Raw or Smackdown. I’m sure I could put 2 top talents in matches, but that would be no fun as it wouldn’t seem realistic to continue to do weekly.

    Any tips?

Well, not going to say things are perfectly balanced just yet. But yeah, scoring GOOD grades with the WWE isn't mean tot be easy. The starting popularity of the company is 78, so scoring grades in the 78-80 range should maintain. And that's really the intent as the WWE wasn't putting out consistently strong shows back then. Much as today, they were mixed and sometimes quite poor. The AI faces fewer penalties than the user, but they can regularly hit 85-90 main events by loading up a bit.

sometime that does still need to be played around with is the Match Focus and the Angle Focus. That could still be optimized and might be toying with.

You may also benefit from adjusting the product. Its currently Wrestling Soap Opera which isn't necessarily ideal.

That sounds like it’s working as intended, realistically. 78 is an average show so you’ll need to pull out the big guns if you want to get above that norm, especially in an entertainment product.

    Yup, this is the idea.

  14. RIP Brodie Lee. And Danny Hodge. Unbelievably sad day.

Glad to see a beta release of this, haven't had a chance to take a full look yet but can't wait until I get the chance. There's definitely been a lot of hard work put into it!

Thanks! Curious for your thoughts when you do have time.

I had a look at the double brands thing since I saw everyone else saying it. So it seems like if you just start games without going into the editor, it has four brands (two of each for RAW and SD) but if you go into the editor and look at the brands you will see two. I didn't change anything, but I did hit save. Then when I went back and started a new game it now only shows as two brands.

Not really sure what on earth has happened there but just seems like some weird small glitch and easy enough to fix before you start. Probably worth posting it in tech support still

If no one else has put it up, I'll post it in Tech Support tomorrow. Either a bug or some "ghost" data causing things to get funky.

Awesome to see the amount of work gone into this - I am most grateful for the tweaks you have done to broadcasters to make sure the ratings are realistic and reflective.

I am going to post some feedback on here shortly but just wanted to post my gratitude and excitement

Appreciated. And credit where credit is due - the broadcaster optimization was HWRP's doing. I went over the broadcasters after the conversion process and got it so that things were working, but didn't go further than that. HWRP jumped on the unenviable task of testing and tweaking to get things optimized. So credit to him for that. And for plenty more work.

Simmed 2 years a head and looked really promising so going to do a ROH save from the start and will provide feedback in the suggested forms :) side note: Does anyone happen to have a cut of the WOH World title on that background by any chance?

There is a WOH belt cut in the fkepod pack so you can check that. I've added it to the data but it will probably be a bit before I do another beta version. I was mostly avoiding adding "future" belts but started to put a few in.

I see Micheal Elgin is set as a troublemaker, I feel he's more than earned scumbag at this point, edit: the same can be said for David Starr

also london and kendrick don't have a tag team set up, also motor city machine guns

Added the tag teams. Weird ones to overlook but it happens. Thanks.

And as for Elgin and Star... Yes. But...

I probably should have put something in the ReadMe, as I knew this would come up. And likely will again. Heck, it would have been a point of consideration for a number of workers even without the Speaking Out movement. I don't want to start a conversation on that - there are places for it and this isn't it - but will say that it was a very necessary reckoning because those kind of behaviors have no place in any business. The depth of the issues was heart-rending to so many fans, myself included, but the real focus needs to be on the victims and on enacting real changes. All that said, I'm not sure I've ever felt scummier myself than taking some of these situations (not just Speaking Out but any accusations) into consideration for the mod and having to weigh how valid the accusation seemed and how BAD is really was.... Just awful way to have to look at things.

The "issue" with the Scumbag attribute is the impact that it has in TEW terms. It essentially makes the worker unemployable, or very close to it. Which isn't the case with a lot of these workers. They will have constant issues rather than occasional ones. Hence, I've tried to be cautious with how many workers get that attribute, and I'm mulling it on several who do. Quite a few of the Scumbags in the mod are promoters and its meant more to replicate dodgy-as-hell practices some of them have than personal transgressions. But it seems to have the same effect - I had one promoter as a Scumbag and it eventually led to the company not being able to run shows because there weren't enough workers in that region (its been corrected in several ways).

I don't imagine its the kind of thing we will find general consensus on, but if everyone wants, they can be switched to Scumbag. It will just make them all but impossible to keep on a roster. Troublemaker or something similar will ensure incidents but not constant ones.

Juste launched a short save with Stardom, here some things that I think don't add up or could be changed (regardind attributes) :

    - Sarah Stock souldn't have 100% babyface attribut

    - Kaori Yoneyama should have at least "Noted Comedy Match Worker"

    - Mayu Iwatani should'nt be 100% babyface. (I can understand a lot of people thinks that, but she did an amazing short term heel job in LU witch Kairi & Io)

    - I don't think Nanae Takahashi should be a "People Person", something like "driven" can be more appropriate in my mind. Or maybe adding "Higly Strung" or "Has a temper" to replicate what she did when she left Stardom back in 2015.

Feel free to talk it out with your team. And thanks a lot for this mod. :D

Oh, joshi feedback! Its one of my weakest areas of knowledge so any eyes on it are apprciated. I'll get this into the data ASAP.

And finally... I always feel bad when someone makes a suggestion that I can use for someone, so I feel like I need to explain it. Probably not necessary, but...

Atticus has been providing some nice suggestions in the Google Sheets, so thank you sir.

I've added Agers for Adam Scherr / Braun Strauman so he will have the "Braun" look a year after he debuts.

As for Regal, someone else pointed out the matches he had in later 2013 but unfortunately, the AI won't care if he's set to be Occasional. If he's active as a worker, he will work and the AI will book him on NXT all the time. The AI isn't beholden to contract roles eithers so the WWE AI will book Brock and Trips all the time.

  15. Works like a charm, friend, appreciate the work you've put in on the Google Sheet side as well!

No problem. Hope they are easy to use!

In a WWE trial run I noticed the multiple RAW and Smackdown brands as well.

Also, Main Event is listed as an "A" show.

Also looks like you used Brie Bella's profile picture for both Brie and Nikki. I know they're twins but Brie's the one with the headband and Nikki typically wears the backwards hat.

Where specifically is it showing the doubled brands? I opened a couple WWE saves and I'm not seeing it. The only place I've spotted it is on a test save, the "Tour Company" function for the WWE says there are 3 brands, then lists four, which are the doubled brands. I'm thinking its a bug and will report it but want to provide Adam with specifics.

Man, I think I managed to leave the pics the same for almost ever set of twins. Almost all of the twins were created by converting over a worker for one of them, editing them to be the first twin, and then copying the first twin to edit to be the second twin. Hence they end up with the same cut as I apparently kept missing that.

So, i think it's Narushi Akimune. I found this website (https://puroresurepresentin.wordpress.com/kaientai-dojo-k-dojo/) that puts him as Narushi. His 2AW profile puts him as Narcy, which makes sense, it sounds similar, i guess.

    thanks!

That's actually correct for the time.

I've adjusted the show to be a B show for now, as that seems to allow the AI to run things a bit smoother but will see how things unfold as more people test.

just a small note but the NEVER Openweight Title is missing from NJPW, i believe Masato Tanaka was the champion at the time.

Thanks. Added. Also added the other NEVER belts and the US title as inactive belts so someone running New Japan can active them if they want.

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. I've been adding in some missing belts, even if they aren't getting lineages yet. Will probably get back to adding future workers soon enough.

  16. Not OP but I noticed it as well. In the pre-game editor it only shows two brands, but once in game...it shows duplicates of Raw and Smackdown. Completely equal in terms of membership etc. The game even states there are "4" brands. Odd.

weird. I'm not seeing that. Might be a bug.

Now it's showing up as Comment Only mode for me :p When you go to File -> Share -> Get Link, if you change the left drop down from "Restricted" to "Anyone with the link" and right drop down to "Editor", you should be good to go!

Done. Hopefully that lets folks get in there.

What a christmas gift! I'm so excited about this mod that i might ignore the warning and start a long save lol Thanks Bigpapa (and everyone else involved too)

Btw, quick thing on K-Dojo, Ref Naruse Akimune has a duplicate as Akimune Narushi.

You're welcome and I imagine a few people will ignore the warning lol. Its fairly playable but won't have as many future workers yet. there are just shy of 2500 in the data currently and I expect it to have somewhere in the 3000 range by full release.

Do you know which spelling is correct? Im thinking Naruse Akimune...?

  17. Really loving this mod but one thing is that kind of irks me is that in the WWE it says there are 2 separate RAW brands and 2 separate Smackdown brands. But other than that I am really loving this mod

    Thanks!

Where are you seeing that its showing double brands? I double-checked the data and there are just the Raw & SD brands set up. And when I start a save with the WWE, its just showing me Raw & SD. I know sometimes the alerts shows the brands and the branded shows needing announcers to be set if you don't have them set up, but otherwise.... it should just be the 2 brands.

  18. Merry Christmas, seasons greetings, feliz navidad and whatever other seasonal celebratory greetings are appropriate to all :-)

Awesome to see people hyped. Hoping it lives up to the excitement.

There are absolutely 100% going to be some small things that I've missed, and possibly some big things. wweu5 just pointed out that the American Wolves are missing as a tag team.

    LET'S GO BOOOOOOOOIZ

    Super hyped

Thanks for the feedback email. Much appreciated. And i've already started putting some of the belts in there. Can't say the AWA or ECW titles will get lineages all that soon, but at least the belts themselves will be in the data. Lineages can get added later.

Extremely excited to start this. This was probably my peak as a wrestling fan and this is actually the exact month that I started my first game of TEW. Thank you for all the work you put in- looking forward to diving in!

    You're welcome and enjoy!

This has been one of the few mods I have been keeping an eye on since the release of TEW 2020, I am so amped up for this!

    Hope you have fun!

Just looking around rather than booking anything yet, but love what I'm seeing so far. The bios that I've read are really well done and help in remembering what people were up to at the time :)

Thanks, Legend. The bios vary a bit in quality - I was absolutely putting more effort into them for the first while. That fell off a bit, in large part because I knew less about the workers so its harder to put a lot of detail.

Christmas has arrived!!! Thanks for this, been keeping an eye on the project for months!

Just something I noticed and this is going off my memory at the time, but it looks like HHH is assigned as a heel in the mod but I feel like he was a face at the time? He didn't turn heel until Summerslam when he was the ref in the world title match if I remember correctly.

Pretty sure you are correct. Trips fought Brocky at WM. I've adjusted his alignment. Thanks!

As a small note, there will absolutely be some other alignments that are wrong. But also, the brand split was really messy at the time and almost to the point where its not worth having in, but it seems like the AI books a roster this size better with a brand split and 2 shows. So that's still a bit of a work in progress.

Hell yes, very stoked to see this and I've wasted little time starting a watcher sim! Kudos for the insane amount of work you've put in to this so far, BP.

Also a heads up, but the Google Sheets is View Only right now!

Dang it. I've adjusted. If that doesn't work now, it may require requesting permission which I will give as soon as I can. Really hoping to avoid that as its a pain in the bum.

Can't wait to get stuck in to this. Thanks very much.

    You're welcome and enjoy!

I started to look at the data, it already looks very very good. It could probably become the best real world mod for TEW 2020 (and if you still plan to make a 1984 mod after this one, that will be awesome).

I will send you in the next days a mail for helping you with the few broadcaster for France, nothing big but too long for the sheet.

French broadcaster info would be brilliant! And yeah, a chunk of feedback or something very detailed is probably easier sent to the email.

1984 is still in the works but I have done almost nothing with it for a few months since this has been the priority.

Firstly, Merry Christmas. Secondly, congratulations, brother. It's great to see you finally release a version of this. I will hopefully have the time to get stuck into this at some point in the future, but I'm just happy that you've finally got to a place that you're happy with. I just hope everyone enjoys it because I know how much time and effort you've put into this so once again, congratulations. :)

Thank you, sir. And thank for how much you have helped out with this.

Such a great christmas present for the community BP, thanks for all the hard work that has gone into it at this stage. Will be jumping straight into this and trying to provide some feedback as I go :D

You're welcome and hope the puro and joshi scenes are up to par :-)

Thanks for the mod. I have a quick feedback I've just noticed: LuFisto is listed as a male.

Well that's just plain rude of me! I'll get her adjusted asap. Thanks for catching that. Sadly, I'm sure there will be a few more. And sexuality - I'm certain I missed some of those, so please let me know of any that anyone spots and I will correct.

  19. Thanks

An incomplete but appreciative list of Thank You

  20. Background

The mod is being built on TEW 2016 but the intent is to optimize it for TEW 2020 (when possible). There is no estimated time frame for completion at this point, but the intent is to release it for TEW 2020 only.

    The Time Period

The 2013 period is recent enough that it doesn’t necessarily feel “historical”, but its over six year ago now. It’s a period that particularly appeals to me because there were some interesting things going on, but perhaps most important, tons of potential to do things different. It was a transitional period and a period with a ton of potential. A lot of the workers who are now hitting their primes and taking over wrestling today were getting their start around then.

In the WWE, WrestleMania 29 was just headlined by the Rematch of the Century. John Cena is the WWE champion and still the figurehead, but he is starting the process of stepping down from the very top, so it looks and feels like a period of transition. CM Punk isn’t yet determined to leave and Daniel Bryan’s run towards WM30 is just beginning. The Shield are running riot. The Wyatt family are about to debut. The genesis of the women’s revolution is starting. NXT is starting to get really good.

Perhaps more importantly, its outside of the WWE bubble that things are most intriguing.

The US indy scene is quite loaded with young talent, many of whom have landed with the WWE or TNA in the years since then. Gargano, Cole, ACH, Steen, the Young Bucks, David Starr, AR Fox, reDragon, Ciampa, Thatcher, Busick, Cobb, Callahan, Ricochet… Whether your preference is ROH, PWG, Evolve, CZW or maybe even Game Changer Wrestling (even thought it wasn’t GCW yet)…. There are building blocks to shape your promotion around.

If your tastes run more towards TNA…. Well, this was just before the TNA slide got serious. They were still on Spike TV. They still had (and could arguably afford) the likes of AJ Styles, Sting, Kurt Angle, and Samoa Joe. TNA was in the midst of the “awesome” Aces n Eights storyline. But TNA will be set up to be challenging to be run rather than an easy path to success.

In Japan, top dog New Japan Pro Wrestling is in the early stages of a golden period in terms of in-ring quality. Okada is just starting to hit his peak. And this right before Bullet Club formed under Devitt. Los Ignerobles hasn’t formed yet, so maybe you can be the one to get Naito to the top.

AJPW and Noah, both once pretty direct competition to NJPW, are far from that now. Noah has just had a scandal and exodus, with AJPW about to experience one. That creates opportunities. Dragon Gate are still doing Dragon Gate things, and have some young talent coming through, plus some great junior wrestlers from abroad they can go after. Companies like DDT have plenty of talent.

If you prefer the joshi side of Japan, there is a lot of talent and 7 active companies to choose from.

The UK and Europe scenes are starting to heat up. Companies like wXw, Progress Rev Pro, and ICW are doing interesting things and there is a ton of young talent to go after and develop.

And even Australia, which always seems to fairly barren in the mods I've messed around with in the past, had quite a glut of talent in this time period. You have Robbie Eagles, Travis Banks, Jonah Rock, the Might Don't Kneel, KC Cassidy, Ryan Rollins, Jessie McKay, Toni Storm, Jay White, Madison Eagles, Shazza McKenzie, Mark Davis.... That's a LOT of talent. Most of those will be set to work outside of Australia so it might be tough hanging onto some of them, but I do think Australia will be pretty interesting in this mod.

    Some Backstory

Way back before TEW 2016 was released, I got my grubby hands on an early version of the Real World Chronicles from late 2013. My original intent was just to update that for personal games. It had about 1300 workers so it needed more active workers and companies, plus a lot talent that debuted (or gained a bigger reputation) after the start date. I’m also kinda picky with details – I am bothered by incomplete game areas, or game mechanics that don’t function because the mod was built on an earlier version and wasn’t properly updated when it was converted. So it became a lot of work. I’ve picked away at it over the years, but honestly, adding in somewhere around 1500 more workers plus editing the 1300 already in the data for all the things that changed from 13 to 16 was just not an appealing process…. Just never got rolling on it to really make strong headway.

Started to mull the idea of starting form scratch. But a few issues with that. One is the pure intimidation of skilling everything. I mean, what if you create 1,000 workers and then realize the balance is way off? The results just aren’t want you want or expect? That was a MAJOR concern. Another is my own limitations – I absolutely don’t know every corner of the wrestling world, and while I do watch plenty, its not always with that keen analytical eye. I am well aware on the volume of research work many modders do to skill accurately, and I have no desire to emulate that.

So I came to the idea of “slotting”.

    The Methodology

The idea of slotting is basically using worker who fill a similar role in another mod and importing them. They are then edited to be the real world worker.

Due to familiarity, diversity of talent, overall balance, and the game-worlds as a whole, the workers being used are from the CornellVerse and the ThunderVerse. Familiarity is important here, as is balance. I like the overall balance in the game world of both mods.

The basic idea of slotting is finding someone in the Cverse or Tverse who fills a similar to role to the real world worker I want. By turning them into the real world worker in question, I immediately have good idea of how that worker will function (grade) in the mod.

What’s the point? Why is that different than skilling someone from scratch? Theoretically, it takes less time (which turned out to be kinda false belief). But more importantly, it means I already have a good idea of how that worker will function within the TEW game world. Obviously, the game world I’m creating is not quite the same either the Cverse or Tverse (companies sizes vary, etc), but its similar enough that it seems to carry over.

So if I want to create Hiroshi Tanahashi, I can look in either of the two mods for someone who is a top puro worker in their later 30s and works for a national-level puro company. There are actually a few options to choose from. If I have an idea of how each of those workers function within the Cvere or Tverse, I already have a step ahead than if I’m skilling from scratch.

Does it work? Well, the game world is far from complete, which mean test soaks can only be so accurate. But tests show the kind of balance I was hoping for. And at the end of the day, I’m really most concerned with balance and grades and while I can’t properly test for long-term stability yet, the overall initial impression is good.

There are other drawbacks to this approach which I can touch at some point.

Non-wrestlers and probably some retired wrestlers are being imported, though.

Companies will be mostly imported, with a few from scratch. They will be adjusted to suit and redone when ported to TEW 2020 for products and other changes.

Title belts will be done individually. My original intent was to import them but they have to be adjusted for consistency anyway, so going from scratch just seems…. easier.

    The Game World

When I talk about the game world balance of the Cverse and Tverse, I’m not referring to the specific game world structure – Cverse having 3 national companies in the US, 1 national company in Mexico, etc – but moreso the balance of talent. The way that every company is reasonably sustainable and has some talent available. Every area has good (not always great) workers and some prospects. Every company has something that makes them interesting and unique, but also something that makes them at least a little bit challenging.

When I’ve modded in the past, I’ve been guilty of having companies or even entire regions that were… unappealing. You look at a roster and every worker is all Ds and Es for skills and they all look the same… What appeal is there to run that company? Even if you like the company in real wrestling…. there just isn’t something there to hook you. Those generic-looking indy rosters happen easily (especially in regions of the world you the modern aren’t very familiar with) and may actually be quite accurate. But its also something I do want to avoid. That is also why this time period appealed – there was plenty of talent in regions that sometimes get that treatment.

That said, I also don’t want all the regions full overly magnificently talented workers when, in reality, they aren’t. Overpowering to a serious level isn’t appealing, whether it’s the WWE or a tiny indy company. Which is why I’m seeking that overall game-world balance.

    Intended Features

    • bios being written individually. They are intended to give a bit of info about the worker without being too detailed, and have a bit of personality. Even sometimes a bit of humor.

    • a stand alone pic pack is being put together, using Organic style cuts. The intent is to be fairly consistent with quality and look, as much as possible. The majority come from Joe Murphy's Super Awesome pack, but quite a few cuts are being done for workers that aren't in other mods.

    • logos are a bit of a mix but all will be the organic style with black border

    • quite a few agers

    • a large amount of free pics, a whole chunk of which I cut myself (poorly). Also intend to include some rendered free pics, which won’t be to everyone tastes.

    • employment histories as much as possible, but only for companies in the data. Not much use putting in initials for companies that don’t exist in the game-world.

    • all companies will be redone to have the TEW 2020 products

    • some historical companies

    • Hall of Fames for every company

    • cuts specifically for Hall of Fame & Hall of Immortals

    • broadcasters redone to suit TEW 2020 changes

    • stables will be redone to fit TEW 2020 changes, with logos added where possible

    • training facilities will be redone to fit with TEW 2020 changes

    • title histories done so they all match stylistically and connect to the appropriate workers

This mod is freeware. Anything can be used but credit is appreciated.

Pieces have been used from a lot of different sources, with credit sought where applicable.

Please reach out if you are intending to use the mod as a base for another mod.

-the free pics will include random images I've found on Google, renders, and AI-generated fake images

-I've tried to avoid using pics of celebrities, porn stars, etc.

-most images I cut were found on Google, searching for things like athletes, martial artists, Halloween costumes...

-many cuts are set to cover more than one race

-if you prefer not to have free pics, they can be deleted out of the editor

  23. A 2013 Mod in Progress - The YES! Mod

    giphy.gif?w=1200&ssl=1

    The YES! Mod

The Yes Mod (TYM) is a TEW mod starting in May of 2013 that is built from scratch… sort of.

The mod is not complete. There is a lot of work left to do. But I keep putting off a beta release to get a bit further. After the recent testing and feedback by HWRP and having some time off over Christmas, it feels like a good time.

    Its a Beta

The mod is incomplete. There are missing workers, particularly yet-to-debut workers. Future companies need to be cleaned up. There will be some mistakes. Because of things being incomplete, I would recommend against trying to start a long-term serious save just yet. But the

more feedback and testing that gets completed, the faster this gets finished and a full release.

    Notes

-if you intend to book the WWE, you may want to consider changing the product to another SE variant. The one selected is meant more for the AI.

-if you intend to book TNA, you may want to consider editing Dixie Carter's personality. The scumbag personality was meant to try to have TNA emulate some of the shady practices they have done under her leadership rather than truly represent her.

-NXT-UK is not in the data as its impossible to have it debut similar to how the child company actually exists and functions

-almost nothing in the data is FINAL, so any suggestions will be taken into account. No guarantee they will be enacted

-some things are certain ways for gameplay purposes, to keep things from being overpowered

-quite a lot of top workers have had skills dropped to keep grades reasonable. As such, testing to see how the worker grades isn't a bad idea when making suggestions for major stars for big companies. Having just one of those being overpowered in terms of grades can unbalance things.

-Attribute suggestions are very welcome. Some negative attributes are based on hearsay and rumor, others are random. If you aren’t sure, point it out

-for workers with international recognition, popularity cascades to some level, similar to the Cverse

-notable workers from small or above companies will typically have a small degree of international popularity, often about 5 points
