  1. More nice additions today. As I keep "complaining" about, a lot of these small addtiions really aren't that small at all.

More predatory hiring scares me. In a good way, but still.... trying to run a company like TCW or BCG in 2016 can be all but impossible at times. TCW at least can offer Written deals, but with BCG you lose everyone who isn't loyal because Burning Hammer is so predatory. Which creates a trickle down. And if its that much heavier on 2020.... yeeouch.

  2. Rather like the streamlining of the technical skills. Wouldn't have picked that as one I would want, but it makes a lot of sense.

And regarding the color commentary.... It really depends on what you want out of your color commentary. Someone who is well spoken and entertaining - like CM Punk or Macho Man - is likely to do well, at least in the sense that they are entertaining. But they may not add to the match in the same way that a more reserved commentator can. Difference in preferences.

  3. Based on the way it was described, I assume you have the same options, but you can fine tune potential for different categories. So if you want someone to be good at everything, you can just give them high potential in all categories.

This is how I think it will be based on the description as well. And its kinda awesome that you can tailor the potential of workers like that. Really helpful for historical mods where you want workers to turn out in a certain way. Giving them Very Good or better potential in TEW 2016 means they are likely to turn into world class wrestlers. Plenty of really good wrestlers aren't that, though. They are good in certain areas, not every area.

Isn't the point to develop skills not raise pop?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Yes. Its not changing developmental, but its what prompts a worker to complain about being in developmental. So the trigger for those "I'm ready to be called up" emails is changing, basically.</p>

I was kind of hoping for more, even unlimited, although that might be harder to do. Still 5 does not seem that much. As for the rest, great additions an,d btw, I do hope some of today's features do make drafting much easier, as it seems to be the case.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> But.... why? What purpose would there by to having 15 or 31 or 1,275 brands?</p>
  6. <p>The first question I would is whether any talent is coming through the dojo at all? There is a setting for when the game should start producing workers and if its a future date, you won't see any at all (except for necessary talent to fill in a region) until that date. </p><p> </p><p>

But beyond that.... yes, reasonable talent comes through. Its random and spotty, but if you have the worker generation at the highest level, you will see world class prospects come through, who will develop into top level workers.</p>

  7. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Self" data-cite="Self" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41174" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I love CGC but have grown tired of the 2016 roster, so I'm doing something different. I've let the AI book up until January 2019 and have taken over the train wreck from there. <p> </p><p> It's a delightful mess. USPW has ransacked everyone popular under 40 (Ricky DeColt, Christian Price, Gargantuan) the company is losing $100,000 a month (and Alex wants profit by 2021) and Blockbuster is the CGC World Champion. They split all of the tag teams. They jobbed Ian Identity out to Major Negative. The only guy who seems to have gotten a push is Ryan Powell, who is locker room cancer with more enemies than I thought the game could process.</p><p> </p><p> I'm mostly torn between a slow fix and a sudden overhaul. I'm going to see if I can make Blockbuster into a worthy champion (feeding him Powell is a good start) but the midcard needs to be gutted. Why pay $1400 for Jaime Atherton to do a job in the opener, when I can pay $400 for Canadian Crusher to have the exact same effect on the final rating? All of the ACPW stars have to go, replaced by unknowns on Written deals so I can run some house shows. I'm also going to rehab Ian Identity with the long-term goal of making him champion, and put the focus on tag teams. Let's see if I can find Jack a tag partner.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> This is clever, and a great way to get a unique variation on the game-world. Similar to what I've seen folks do on Football Manager when they want things to be varied a bit. </p><p> </p><p> When it comes to cutting costs, it helps to be ruthless. Which can suck, because some openers are more fun to book than others. But if they both have the same effect on the match grade, the cheaper one is the right choice.</p>
  8. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Matt_Black" data-cite="Matt_Black" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41392" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>So, I've been playing CGC, getting on the cusp at breaking through to National (75 pop across Canada), and NOTBPW swoops in and poaches 2/3 of my main event scene, including Ricky, Christian, Thrill Seeker, and reigning World Champion Gargantuan. Arrgh. Huge flipping contracts, too, well out of my range to compete with.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> This is frustrating, but its also an opportunity. You probably still have enough talented main eventers that you can use to build up a new group (as process you quite possibly already had underway) of stars. Just center the booking on the few guys you have remaining if necessary. </p><p> </p><p> On the upside, those huge contracts could bring about some financial problems for NOTBPW. That's fun too.</p>
  9. So I think I know the answer to this, but gonna ask.... Considering a save with WCW in the 1997 Montreal Aftermath mod. WCW is owned by Time Warner, which is accurate. The Time Warner PPV broadcaster is available everywhere. When I experimented, I could land TV deals because of that. Kinda expected. But if I open up a company-owned broadcaster, does anyone know if the corporate overlords will still block deals? I don't have the game in front of me just to experiment with it.
  10. I'll be honest - anyone can make sense. I know this is a shitty answer but both WWF/WCW have histories of bring in puro guys/super juniors/luchadores/hardcore guys even if they weren't ready made for their products. It's up to you to make it fit. If we're going with guys who need the least amount of work it'd be entertainers/menace workers with clear characters/gimmicks.

Its a completely true, though. One of the best aspects of the ThunderVerse is the sheer volume of cool, interesting, talented high-potential workers you can hire. Especially on the American scene. But its also one of the worst things, but that volume can be overwhelming and if you are like me and lack self-control with new hires, you can end up opening up four new developmental companies for the AWF and stocking them fully with new hires, along with adding more talent to FAW.

You are correct - you can make anyone fit. Even guys that don't really fit, style-wise, can still do well and may just switch their style after a time anyway.

With Sports Entertainment, I generally look for worker with a "hook". That is someway to generate overness. Star Quality, Charisma, Sex Appeal, Menace, overall entertainment skills, or being a really good worker can provide this. But... not everyone on the roster needs to have a hook. Not everyone needs to be able to generate popularity out of thin air.

I also always target Star Quality. SQ helps with a number of things. But... its easy to get wowed by SQ and overlook factors. And realistically, not every worker on the roster needs to have pretty good or better SQ. Not everyone needs to be a potential future star. A roster should typically have a mix and its easy to forget that when you are looking at workers who need time to develop and grow.

One approach you can take is making a list of types of talent you would like to add, then searching for workers that fit. Like maybe you want to add 12-15 workers total. So 2-3 "future star" types. 2 big hosses. 3-4 solid midcard / tag specialists. Its a bit easier to search for each when and narrow options when you have a clearer idea of what you are seeking more than "talent".

  11. That’s great, cheers. Presumably there are still gains to be had for a development company without a TV deal?

Oh absolutely. Workers still improve faster than on the main roster. They can gain tag experience if you set up a tag team for them (or the AI does). And they will gain popularity. The limitation is that they will only gain popularity in regions where the developmental company is holding shows - and the smaller the company is, the more limited that will be.

If you have your broadcaster and put a broadcasting deal (or two) in place for your developmental company in place, its possible to emulate NXT - in the sense that workers can gain fairly significant popularity and can potentially move right into your midcard.

Without a broadcaster, you can still make use of workarounds. The "Borrow from Development" function is awful handy. That combined with the low-popularity mechanic and a B show, and you can have them from zero to lower midcard levels of popularity just by having them on the B show with some regularity.

  12. A few very basic questions about starting my own development company. I realise there may be a guide to this somewhere I’m missing, so feel free to point me in that direction if so.

    - How do I add titles and negotiate TV deals for my newly created development territory? Or is this all done by the head booker I appoint? If it’s done by the head booker, is it safe to assume that they’ll do this after a few weeks of gameplay and that I won’t be left with a development company with no titles and no tv deal?

    - Presumably the benefits of purchasing a larger development company are that my developing wrestlers are likely to build up skips and popularity quicker? And the negatives are that they cost more on a weekly basis as well as the initial outlay?

Once you open it, the Developmental Menu has several options, including Titles. You can create or edit the titles in there. If you don't create them, the AI booker will. There is also a TV menu in there where you can create a TV show and set it up on your own network, but you can't negotiate with networks otherwise. A big enough child company may try to negotiate a deal on their own.

Bigger company means bigger profile, bigger shows (using more workers), more popularity gains for the talent but then it also needs to have adequate talent. If you open a company at mid-Regional but fill it with workers who have local-level popularity, its going to struggle and cost you money on a monthly basis.
