Also, whats the difference between the two?

No, the game limits them to Cult sized. And the in-game help quite clearly describes the difference between child company and developmental territory.

  2.

Is their anyway to sell a child company? I've got several of them and decided I wanted to get rid of the ones outside of the US.

No. Think you can end the relationship but you cannot sell them and profit.

  3.
So started another WCW save with my version of the 2k1 WCW Lives mod. Its just a tweaked version of the Mod Squad mod. I started out as I usually do, opening up several child companies and signing a bunch of prospects. A number of the top prospects were signed to the main roster instead of directly to the promotions. This allows me to ensure they get the right alignment and gimmick. They will work some B shows through June (the first month of the mod) and then back to the child promotions for July, when they start touring. And then....

Dusty Rhodes took John Cena as a protégé. which is quite intriguing. It seems like it caries how often the mentor will pass things along, but in some situations, its quite frequent. In my previous save, with Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods, a veteran super junior kept passing Psychology tips to a decent super junior who went from C to B+ Psychology in just a few months. So first show after taking Cena under his wing, Dusty passes on Psychology tips and Cena goes from C- to C psychology. So I'm curious where this goes.

I will keep Cena on the roster for now. He debuted as a heel, and I re-labaled him as Johnny Nitro (gleefully stolen from John Morrison's early WWE run). He can't get the tips if I have him the child promotion and called up for shows. This isn't really a game-changing mentor relationship, as Cena is set up to develop into a top class worker. His top row stats don't necessarily become strong, besides Brawling, so he might not become truly world class. But he can. He always becomes a good wrestler, though. So this won't be taking someone mediocre and making them far more useful. It will just develop him faster, potentially.

For me SQ is something you get over time, by achviements and of what you are remembered. Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, Ricochet all good maybe exceptional wrestlers... but for me low star quality. Matt Hardy has for me more SQ than Ricochet. That can change over time, of course.

Fair enough. That's just not how the game represents it. So choosing SQ based on an approach that doesn't fit with the game mechanic becomes a bit problematic.

  5.
I'm sure everyone will have their own thoughts on what they would like to see added going forward. Personally, amongst the coming future workers, I would love to see the future Brit scene filled in, along with the Euro scene a bit. Workers like Walter would be great to see.

Again, appreciate all the work.

I dont think so personally. Everywhere Ric Flair still pops up the fans go nuts, since he is a legend. I think to measure SQ with Age is wrong.

Is it, though? You said yourself, fans react because he is a legend. That's popularity. And dropping Star Quality is part of the in-game Time Decline. Same as declining top row stats, declining Selling and Consistency.

Does a 60 year old Ric Flair have the exactly same PRESENSE as a 35 year old version of himself? Sure, he gets a reaction today if he walks into a room full of people who know who he is. But if he walks into a room where no one knows him, is the room going to notice and everyone think "that guy is a star"? Fair or not, age changes that.

  6. Once tag team experience reaches a certain point, the experience overrides the chemistry bonus and it no longer adds anything. So for teams that are already experienced, it really shouldn't matter. And for several of the teams listed, they weren't really "chemistry teams". They were teams with two good workers who worked well together after they gained some experience. That's the experience bonus in play. Positive chemistry is when a team is better as a combo than their skills should allow them to be. I don't think that's really the case for teams like the Brothers of Destruction.
  7.
<slow clap>

Had a poke around and this looks very well done. Like, VERY WELL. The amount of work you've put in is obvious and its clear why it took so long.

I will say that from my own experience (which was tweaking a mod to my tastes, rather than creating and sharing), modding to your tastes and preferences is pretty fundamental. I can't imagine pouring hours and hours and hours into a mod to end up with something that you just don't enjoy playing.

As for the Star Quality discussion, I find it does go up. But its not consistent or predictable. As an example, in the version of the 2K1 WCW Lives mod I tweaked, the likes of CM Punk, Brian Kendrick, KENTA, Paul London, Bryan Danielson, AJ Styles, James Storm, and Austin Aries are all active to start with, but quite young. All have Star Quality in the C+ to B range. They most end up with bigger companies (Styles and Storm start with WCW). I've seen the SQ go up to A* for several of them - almost always for CM Punk and AJ Styles. But the others are more unpredictable and don't always move. Much like the skill level of developing future superstar workers, its hard balancing between what they can/should become and what they were at that particular point.

I do appreciate not just the way women are skilled, but also that you went beyond the commonly-known areas. Japan has a tendency to get ignored and the big talents get underrated. As already stated, would love to see a few more puro companies but I can live with things as they are.

One thing I forgot to check is to see how deep you go with future workers and how much you represent the growth in the UK and Europe.

Thanks TONS for all the work you've put into this, and for sharing it.

  8. I don't think there is but aren't roster size numbers consistent based off company size (local/small/regional/cult/national/international/global)? Could just write down the roster size necessary for small to cult? But yes, would be great if you could check ideal roster while checking on your developmental company's roster.

I was going to do something like that - I keep a spreadsheet so easy enough to keep the data in there. But I wasn't sure if the minimum roster sizes are purely linked to size or actual popularity. So a local company at 5 popularity in a single region... is it going to have a lower minimum than the same company at 10 popularity? If it does, that definitely makes it easier.

  9. So I've meant to ask this for a while and I keep forgetting. Any easy way to check the roster numbers for a child / developmental promotion against requirements? I prefer to run developmental style, which means that the company won't hire extra workers if I'm below the minimum threshold. At least at the start of save. But I can't see anywhere that shows the minimum a company of that size should have. I've been able to go into the pre-game editor, create a blank promotion with approximately the same popularity and check the Roster Size recommendation that way, but that's a bit really cumbersome lol
  10.

I have some more general questions for my game that I'm hoping will receive more product-specific answers here than I have been able to find elsewhere.

1. Can you forge a mentor/protege relationship through meddling? Is there anything that I can do to generate more of these relationships?

2. For our round-robin tournaments, not everybody can be booked strong. When filling your blocks, what percentage of workers get labeled as jobbers, i.e. YOSHI-HASHI? Do you establish goals ahead of time, such as get x, y, and z over or protect a, b, and c?

3. Is there any reason not to game the 6-man system for tour shows? Why do 10-man tags if I can build tag experience with a 6?

4. Regarding time decline, even those listed as "recently" appear to have their skills dipping. I've never played a game long enough to where time decline really matters, especially with a puro product, making it probably the most important part of the game that I don't understand. How soon after hitting that list do I need to start phasing people out?

Sorry everyone, just stuck in planning stages and really want to burst through so I can continue. Unfortunately, I psychoanalyze every aspect of each tour to the point where I've set blocks for my G1 eight separate times - and I'm still dissatisfied with it.

I'm similar when it comes to planning, so I feel ya.

1. Nope, just friendships. Which is unfortunate - I've had a high Psychology raise their protégé's Psychology from high 60s to almost 90 with constant tips.

2. I have done two grand prix style tournaments but I didn't pre-plan to a significant extent. I didn't even plan out making the ending dramatic - it just worked out well without. I mostly had the more popular guy go over, with just a few moderate upsets. If I had a bigger roster with more "top guys" participating that were all similar in popularity, it might get tougher and require more specific planning.

3. Variety. I try to mix it up so I'm not doing the same robo-booking over and over again. 3v3 is nice for the reason you mentioned, but sometimes I just want to include an extra worker or two.

4. I could be off-base here, but I feel like there is some level of disconnect between Time Decline (which impacts match rating) and skill erosion. They are linked, but not always explicitly directly. As in, some workers who are far into decline (and therefore having their match ratings hit hard) don't seem to lose a lot of skills, and some workers lose skill even when they are just into Time Decline. And my approach is to look at them on a case by case basis. If they are just starting into Decline, it generally won't impact their match ratings much and they are still relatively push-able. After a bit, you start to get a feel for what kind of match ratings you expect out of a product, worker, and popularity level. And if they are under-performing that on a consistent basis, they start to get used more carefully.

  11.
South of the Border Pro Wrestling and United States Pro Wrestling are both very aggressive in stealing talent now. The SWF tends to lose stars to them, while TCW often loses its stars to the SWF. But a great aspect of the C-verse is that there are tons of potential stars to build up.

Personally, I am all-in on the Bumfhole camp and keeping the Bumfhole name. I used to be a name-changer for them as well, even if it was just having them go by first names. But there is just something fun about these potential superstars having odd names that they still use.

  12. So I think Adam mentioned something about this a long long time ago but I can't imagine I would be able to dig up that post.... Does anyone know how to lower the percentage of randomly-generated workers that are masked? I have maybe 1200 free pics and often set new work generation to Very High, at least for a period of time. Maybe 200 of the free pics are masked, but it sometimes seems like half of the randomly-generated workers are masked. How can I tweak that?
  13. Looking good, Enemy.

I'm finding that show grades slide up as the popularity of the main event scene goes up. I am now easily hitting 85 or over on shows without really trying for a strong grade, whereas a similar show was a struggle to hit 80 on the first tour. And that's with a main event 6-man tag or something similar, not a major singles match.

So a bit into the tour with the HammerCast showing stuff around the globe, minus Japan and the US. Company popularity is moving up in those regions, but a point or so per show. Worker popularity is also moving up, but in slightly weird ways. I did some looking at the Lord of the Rings show in Week 2 of the tour and a few midcard and lower card workers who were on the show saw MAJOR jumps in popularity abroad, whereas most saw more gradual gains. So a main eventer with 90 or high popularity has gone up 5 or 8 points of popularity in those outside areas, most of which were very very low. And then someone like Razan Okamoto, who is in the mid-40s in Japan, has gone up everywhere else (except the US) to be almost level with his Japan popularity. Strange. Nice, but strange.

Figured on getting further over the weekend since I had some extra days off but didn't get to spend much time with it. Still really enjoying the save, but also eyeballing a real world save on a mod I've been tweaking for a long time.

  14.

How exactly does one invert a sleeper? Asking for a friend...

Just Google image search for Wrestling Inverted Sleeper. You will get a bunch of variations.

  15. I actually though that might have been the only one, but it seems to happen more often then I originally thought. Tanahashi, for example, has won two lucha de apuestas matches in his career.

I really want to cement Tadayuki Toshusai as "the guy". Even with his poor top row stats, he's on par with my other main eventers, and will only grow from here. So, an apuestas stip makes some sense in this scenario. It actually works better that this is rare, but not unheard of, because I want this match to feel special.

My simple suggestion to making him a mega-star.... just put Toshusai on the mic. He is one of the best talkers in Japan. I have barely pushed him and just from regular mic-time, he is around 90 popularity.

  16.
The match-ups issue isn't as bad if you go heavy with multi-tats, like NJ does on tours. Also ran a G1-like Grand Prix on the first tour, which took up a ton of matches.

I would definitely check for who is on decline. Easy way to do it so to change the push of the five you are listed to non-wrestlers, then check the Creative Meeting to see the next 5. I learned the hard way that you wanna leave those on Time Decline out of a Grand Prix where possible.

Uboshita is in development for me. I hope he gets a bit better and he'll get a chance. Another tip - check for new workers. Even with new worker generation set to low, the game does seem to toss out Japanese-based announcers quite often at the start. And sometimes you luck out. My save generated Wobber Surprise, who started at 88 Announcing and is now 95. Solved an issue before it became an issue.

  17.
Pretty good result off the start. Just hitting 80 on the first shows was a challenge. That can change pretty quickly, though. It might worth taking the time to go back through the last few pages on this thread. Derek, Jon, myself and some others talk a bit about what we've done, what's worked, etc.

I've been running quite a few angles. I use Entertainment based promos with main eventers, talking about other main eventers (off-screen, rated on Overness) to simulate post-match interviews. These not only have been grading strong (Kikkawa and Sakai regularly hit 100 grades on them) but its been popping up the popularity of the workers involved. I have 8 workers currently at 90 or above, and 3 more between 87 and 89.

  18.
I will probably look to at least bring Eagle in on a tour deal. If Optimus passes down a few tips....

Switching back to a touring schedule becomes something of a hybrid situation. The TV show remains a regular TV show. I also added a B show, after awhile, which functions just like any other B show. Tour highlights will only be broadcast if you set up a specific broadcast deal for them. They don't show as a TV show at all like they used to. If you have a deal for touring highlights, when you run a tour show (a weekly event that isn't being broadcast), the show ends up with a message about being highlights being broadcast later. You can't see ratings, at least from what I could find.

My current schedule is TV on Monday (broadcast same day), tour show Tuesday, Thursday, PPVs are Fridays (week 3), tour show Saturday (this get switched to dormant and not run some weeks), and B show Sunday. Tour shows are 3 hours, but I also switched the match-angle ratio down to 90% so I run some angles.

And I know mask-vs-hair matches have happened in Japan but I don't think all that often. Tanahashi has a couple under his belt. If you are trying to take Burning Hammer global - that's the goal for me and Jon - then introducing some elements from other wrestling areas makes a load of sense in trying to penetrate those areas.

  19.

Don’t know if you’ve already got him in development but Kamikaze might be a good shout for 1/2 of your gaijin tag team.

Good suggestion, thanks. I've had him shortlisted. The Spot Monkey style is part of what gave me pause. Liking going to bring him in as developmental once I have a second developmental company.

Ironically BP, the valet was exactly what I was looking for when I turned Jin Miyamoto into JIN(based off the same influence too!). Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyone that was a native. I did, however, settle for Joy Ryder, who has good sex appeal, decent charisma. She debuts in 2017 though so that doesn't help you out. Honestly, I don't know if there's any good options there. Could be wrong and probably am. Like I said, I stumbled with Joy and sh's done well for me and I like the idea of getting her over enough so one of he Joshi companies can sign her(5 Star is at Cult in my game so they are signing girls to Written deals.)

As for junior gaijins, there's so much. I picked up Kamikaze in my game and he's developed well. Ironically his contract is up ad I'm debating whether to keep him, not because of him, but because I have a few SJs with high SQ that need a spot and I'm trying to slowly trend my bloated roster by just a smidge. I don't know who's available in your game, so I'll just throw out Extraordinao Jr. again because he's pretty solid and can develop well. Has a background too in which in his bio,it says that his father wrestled for BHOTWG in the past.

Thrill Seeker from CGC can wrestle in Japan. He's 35 but he has solid skills. B in Aerial. A in Basics, B- in Psych. Wrestling your top juniors could get those skills up. He's a sleeper and can be a good backbone guy, especially in a team setting. So him, Masked Cougar is a solid choice. You can even pair him up with Fox Mask(who famously is longing to wrestle in Japan as his bio always states.) I am curious to know who's available to you in your game and who's being let go, because again, that's how I got someone like Jagged and he's been awesome for me.

Also some solid suggestions. USPW snapped up both Fox Mask and Masked Cougar. Thrill Seeker will get a look, though. Extraordinario Jr is someone I've looked at before. Looking again, not sure why I didn't pull the trigger.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one coming up with very little in the search for Japanese valet types.

Out of interest, have you returned to a "touring schedule" or are you running multiple shows to emulate the schedule?

I know many were disappointed that Burning Hammer and others changed to a regular schedule -- usually, I run two TV shows for a "touring feel", sort of a middle ground.

Either way, I hope that we get more touring companies in Japan at some point.

I've always just passed the mask onto a protege if I can. I can't remember if Kiyaru in particular chose someone in any save, but lots of guys seem to take on proteges at some point.

My guess is that if he stays on for three years, someone eligible will end up under his wing.

I did indeed switch it back to a touring schedule. Just felt more....puro to me. I still have the weekly TV show and I added a B show, so its a kinda mixed schedule at this point.

In theory, I'd love to have a protege worthy of passing the mask on down of these workers. But there is also a large element of randomness that makes that.... challenging. Kiyaru is 45 and declining. Not really cut out to be a road agent. I don't expect he will get a protege at this point.

In general, who do you put under legacy masks? My first instinct is that the guy under the mask should be fairly new, at least to the company. Barring that, he should go through a weight/gimmick change for the character.

I've noticed that in RW sometimes established workers take on legacy masks. It occasionally happens in the C-Verse. For example, Panda Mask II had several years experience before donning his mask -- though he wasn't in the default data before. Many Burning Hammer Juniors start with a protege somewhere, but many don't don their mentor's mask.

I've always struggled to assign a legacy Optimus and/or American Optimus. Both really deserve a successor, but neither have one in the data. I'm not sure who their proteges are, either.

I tend to look for someone who seems worthy. Someone relatively similar to the original masked worker. So I probably wouldn't pick Tetsuji Nishimoto to be Kiyaru II because there is a massive gap in Star Quality. I agree that I would generally look for talent outside the company. I want someone talented, though - no use giving the legacy of a really good to great worker to someone who is utterly mediocre.

I decided to use Tsuneyo Yanagimoto as a legacy talent and went with Zero Optimus, so its an indirect legacy. More like a takeoff legacy. He definitely could have worked under his own name and didn't "need" the legacy to succeed.

In my developmental company, I have California Love Machine working as American Optimus II. I also brought in Marcel LeFleur and have him working as Black Cobra II, which is a nice little connection since he is actually Duane Stone's protege.

Worth mentioning that I'm not ONLY looking for legacies. I do also find it quite fun and enjoyable to come up with new masked characters as well.

EAGLE Kawasawa is an Optimus protege, but he’s at Middleweight. However, Kawasawa himself trained JOJI, so...

Came really close to signing Kawasawa right at the start. I always used to on older C-verse versions. I just dislike that he's a negative influence Locker Room Leader. And not quite good enough in the ring for that to not matter.

Have to keep that in mind. JOJI has real potential, and is worthy of the mask.

JOJI has been on the roster of my child company and hasn't really developed. Not under a developmental deal, though. If he does okay there, I might give him a developmental deal just to see if he improves. The drug history is concerning but I can just test him when finalizing the offer to see if he still uses or not.

  20.
So second tour of the save underway. I was worried because I thought the Best of the Super Juniors had to finish in June which would make running 2 blocks of 10 a bit... tight. But its actually July so that makes it a bit easier to give talent a rest and stretch it out.

Pretty sure Elemental III I wining the BOSJ again, and then probably winning himself the Burning Junior title. He's into the 90s in popularity now. The other Four Pillars have moved up as well, but not as much. So this BOSJ might be about him truly establishing himself as a main level star for the company. Beyond that, this BOSJ will be about solidifying Zero Optimus and Helikaon key juniors just below the big four. A lot of those who slot there, in terms of popularity, are older and declining. I also called up Razan Okamoto, who will start to move up a bit in the ranks too.

Toju Munkata keeps getting Psychology tips. He's up too 88 now. He's improving in other ways but nowhere near as fast. Still puts him in good shape, long-term, to be a key SJ. I did get Kazunori Yamura to move down so they are a full super junior tag team now and will probably have the most value there for the moment.

I brought up Taro Shinaoya and Murai Enomoto from development as a tag team. Named them something like MASSIVE Thunder. They can be a nice cog in rebuilding the heavyweight tag division.

Bit of a boo-boo.... Ieyoshi Shimakage is another who spent the first tour in development and then got called up. And promptly got popped for a painkiller addiction. Rehab time. See in you in a month or two. Actually, make that six months. Snap. Haven't used rehab in the game in a long time and forgot how long it can run.

The shows so far have started to boost our global brand, since the starting popularity outside of Japan isn't that high. The subscription broadcaster isn't making much right now, which kinda makes sense, but its the safer long term bet. From just a few shows, the worker popularities of the top guys are starting to rocket up, though.

Some things I'm still looking for....

Someone for a Kiyaru Legacy Mask - mentioned this will probably end up being a randomly generated Super Junior

Valet - totally not inspired by Tachi's ladies.... been looking for someone with pretty high sex appeal from the beginning. Would prefer a native talent. I think Jessie may become available and would be an easy pairing with Gilmore, but would like a Japanese lady. Have held off on just taking one of the loyal Joshi workers on a PPA or touring deal but that will probably end up being what I do

Gaijin Super Junior team - this one is more about settling on exactly what I want more than "can't find". I have a couple of gaijin talent developing under legacy masks, but they aren't ready. I have a handful of more technical wrestlers - Konrad Maikkison, Nigel Svenson, Ray Snow - and I think a couple of lightweights, so that's an option for a tandem. I have the Night Terrors in on touring deals. I could do a lucha team, which might just mean brining someone in to team with Relamango. Just can't narrow down what direction I want to go.
