I know my first attempt I kinda rushed to try and get a real world WWE feel with regards to NXT/NXT UK/205 Live, etc. I'm trying to keep it slow this time. I really want to turn Aftershock into a U-30 NXTish show because 40 guys is a bit too many people for me to restrict to one show. I'm definitely going to be renaming guys as well unless its someone like Jess Hart. <p> </p><p> The TV and Trillion Dollar belts will probably hop around quite a bit for me. I like the idea you had for the trillion dollar belt and I enjoy the idea of the initial storyline being Barkley being more flamboyant and obnoxious week to week thanks to the payouts. </p><p> </p><p> Merengue is a weak champion so I'm looking to have him pass on the belt soon. Next defense will probably be against El Angel. </p><p> </p><p> Have you changed Shockwave to 2hrs?</p><p> </p><p> The easy decision would probably be to have my second major heel/tweener build a stable for sure. Dolla is helpful in getting Avalanche/Tyrannus/Mo on TV even if they don't have a match that week. I'm never sure if I should include Iesha in a segment or just exclude her since she'll help either way. </p><p> </p><p> I'm obsessed with making South/Rollins a team thanks to Sheamus/Cesaro so I like the idea of a tag division comprised of Albert/Towerblock, Californian Blondes, Specialist, Rollins/South and maybe a Dolla Club pairing. </p><p> </p><p> I didn't notice Dana wasn't on a written tbh. </p><p> </p><p> Maybe eventually I will move into the Women's Revolution era but it'll strongly depend on whats their peak like with eye candy based matches. Also, I don't mind having one storyline eye candy aimed while the title is more competitive centric. </p><p> </p><p> What's your first PPV looking like?</p><p> </p><p> EDIT: Cool Chris busted for Roids. They were in line for tag title shots so I'll have to find someone else to team up with Beautiful Bryce at the PPV. </p><p> </p><p> I had Tyshawn Kidd come in to do a job on the pre-show and he was pretty impressive despite his 60 basics and 50 psych. He's in line with the upper mid/mid card scene to start. The 80 brawling probably helps. Hes got great menace/entertainment skills/sq without the toxic personality and is probably a better Mo Fury. MMA match surely to happen between these two on the AWF card.</p><p> </p><p> Also got excellent chemistry out of Drake Robin and Jordan James so they'll now be teaming in FAW.</p><p> </p><p> EDIT #2: Good guy Mo Fury decided to start a fight Casey Skym and got beaten up. There goes his credibility. On the upside, I was able to fine him and he has gone from an extremely negative influence to a very negative influence. </p><p> </p><p> Got another excellent tag chemistry out of Showtime Stevens & Texas Red.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I opened up Full Throttle Wrestling in Chicago and Progress Wrestling in Brooklyn. Wanted names that fit with the Future and Awesome theme a bit more, but I also wanted nice logos, so... compromise. Both are smallest possible size and touring. Also switched FAW to touring. All three got annual tournaments too (the PWI tournament logos came in handy). My intent was to open one rather than two, but I was signing enough workers that I would have had a bloated roster and added talent to FAW to bloat them up a bit too. A third one wasn't really necessary but it makes it a bit easier. </p><p> </p><p> I intended to keep Shockwave at 90 minutes.... but booking the first one made me lust for the additional 30 minutes so I gave in rather quickly. I enjoy SE because I enjoy creating angles. If someone is over and is entertaining, I want them in an angle. Whether its an 80s style vignette, backstage segment, whatever. I also have a bad habit of wanting both sides of a storyline to have an angle each week, but that's really not necessary. </p><p> </p><p> Aftershock will be similar for me - mostly an Under-30 show for lower card showcases, with a few veteran exceptions. Totally stealing Theo slowly getting more grandiose and excessive as he has a nice reign with the Trillion Dollar belt at some point. I could add a Cruiserweight / Women's show at some point as another B show. </p><p> </p><p> To be honest, the Giroux stable will probably end up being a primary one. The Dolla Club just has too many meh members for my tastes. I could switch out membership, but while I do dig the "leader" dynamic of Silva Dollar, I see him as bad ass enough that he doesn't really NEED a bunch of backup. I see the Tyrannus role as being more about having someone else to torment Hawk than really needing that muscle. Conversely, I don't see Giroux as a leader but as a manipulator, and he wants protection. He starts out with Mountain Albert, Towerblock, and maybe a loose association with Rollins. But when they wise up to being manipulated and bolt, Giroux can swap in some midcard talent could use the rub. It gives Adrienne more to help out with, and when he does start to decline, I can transition Giroux to managing the stable. Kinda like an AWF Four Horsemen in the later 00s if Flair had transitioned to managing .</p><p> </p><p> There are a few on-roster talent that like the chemical help in various forms. I dropped drug testing to the lowest level lol</p><p> </p><p> PPV will be pretty straight forward. Hawk-Dolla, South-Rollins, and Core-Cross. I've added Giroux beefin with Immortal Warrior and a bit of a throwaway between Patriot and Mountain Albert. Given that Giroux will begin recruiting the two big men, that crosses those storylines over a fair bit. I'll have those matches on there, plus a tag defense of some sort and the women's title. I will do to the Trillion Dollar title match if I can fit it, but that might end up as a dark match.</p>
  2. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Jon The GOAT" data-cite="Jon The GOAT" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41411" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Decided to give this a try for AWF - yes, once again giving them a shot - and it worked wonders. A Dolla/Hawk/Core/Cross brawl to end my show got a 92. It seems like show rating wise, the hard bit will be getting that main event into B+ territory. <p> </p><p> Signed to dev:</p><p> RD King</p><p> Dante Laff</p><p> Ace Smith</p><p> Xero</p><p> Travis Stine</p><p> Nathan Jordan</p><p> Mike Frobel</p><p> Leviathan</p><p> Harmony Nolen</p><p> Caleb Adonis</p><p> </p><p> Signed to main roster:</p><p> Jess Hart</p><p> </p><p> Those are all the immediate signings I'm doing. Once again trying to keep things simple and just winging it for booking mostly instead of the heavy planning I usually lean on. </p><p> </p><p> A part of me hates having sex appeal-based division but you can get really solid grades with them. I get easy 70s with a 7-minute womens division match. I'm curious as to if I can get into B+ territory with a sex appeal based match. I'm bringing in Jess Hart to anchor the division nevertheless. </p><p> </p><p> Only time decline guys at the moment are: Jean-Claude Giroux (<img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />) and Marshall Law which means Immortal Warrior & Towerblock are still in prime.</p><p> </p><p> Adrienne is actually amazing btw, definitely make use of her. She's an A for segments and if you use her in the Starlets division, she gets 90s in Eye Candy based matches thanks to that insane pop and sex appeal.</p><p> </p><p> Also for Theo Barkley I gave him the Trillion Dollar Belt. I'll have him be increasingly lavish from week to week, and grow into an MVP-esque character.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I'm toying around with the AWF again as well. Kept going back and forth between an SWF save or the AWF. Decided to be AWESOME. </p><p> </p><p> The crossing over storylines in the main event is a favorite trick of mine. Its commonly done in SE so its not "cheap". The Attitude Era did it tons. I feel pretty cheap if I end every show with "Face Off No Contact" or something like that, but mix it up so its not overly repetitive. </p><p> </p><p> I opened up 2 more developmental companies, but I'm actually being more cautious with the signings. Just realized that I need to sign more development women for one of them, so I guess I was over-cautious on signings for once lol. Like the last go with AWF, having fun renaming a lot of the signings so they feel different. I'm also taking more time to get a feel for different workers, so they don't get overlooked and underused. </p><p> </p><p> I just moved the TV title from Merengue to Theo Barkley. Think I can have some fun with him. </p><p> </p><p> Its a storyline I've used a ton, but gonna have Giroux slowly assemble a stable around him. He'll end up recruiting the likes of Towerblock and Mountain Albert, so it will be impressive with former champions. But he's really just looking to have muscle. it will eventually be a few younger workers. </p><p> </p><p> Good call on Adrienne, Jon. I sometimes forget that she can/should wrestle. And yeah, she helps matches a ton. I am continually guilty of under-using the ladies. Was thinking I would turn Dana into a cornerstone eventually, but she doesn't want to go to developmental (after signing her to a Written deal) and I'm concerned that means she doesn't have the potential to be a true talent. But I also very much agree that I don't like the thought of having the division built around looks. So its a matter of using those grades to slowly transform it into a more legitimate division. </p><p> </p><p> For the Trillion Dollar belt, I'm going to go with the original idea. Anyone who holds the belt gets a cash payout from AWF management each week. Something like $10K bonus per full 7 days of holding the belt. Each successful defense gets them another bonus. But... the belt has to be defended every PPV in a mutli-man match. Winner gets the belt, plus a $20k payout. Makes regular changes a given. Gives a legit and logical reason that the lower card talent would all be chasing it all the time, even though its a lowly belt.</p>
  3. MHero might have something to offer as he was a lot more involved in ThunderVerse creation than I. But I do did some digging and the genesis of the idea for the belt was as a belt with purely financial motivations for the wrestler. Basically, the wrestler is getting money for holding it. Not in the normal way a champion gets a bigger payday by being higher on the card, etc. Just literally getting like $25K per week - kayfabe, not real payout. I don't find the idea evolving from that original suggestion. Unfortunately, there really isn't a way to explain that in game as belts don't have bios.

I dig it. It fits with a dynamic I tend to use with the AWF, which evolved from some diary ideas. Basically, I think there would be a lot of anti-AWF wrestling fans and one of the biggest complaints would be that its a "fake" company built on the ashes of the WWWE and on the wallet of a billionaier fanboy. Not that the WWWE strikes me as a company with a great deal of integrity and soul, but fans aren't always logical lol. The AWF being built with former-WWWE talent just reinforces that. It contrasts the growth of PWI, which is a more organic and "real" company. So the AWF would be labelled as a soulless, "fake" company built on dirty money by those fans who dislike it. Obviously, its grown past the point where WWWE stars were there just for the payday, but once some of those dynamics are established, some people won't let them go. All that said, I also like the thought of the AWF brass recognizing it and in some ways, embracing it. Finding different ways to make money an on-screen motivator. this belts fits with that dynamic really nicely.

I have tons of angles. But the problem is that outside of Hawk/Dolla, I can't seem to do better than a B-, which isn't enough to avoid the penalty. And even Hawk and Dolla aren't a guaranteed lock for a B or greater. And this is with angles playing to strengths, so guys like Cross talking and guys like Core being menacing.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> What is Giroux doing? I've thrown him into a storyline with Immortal Warrior before for easy great angle grades. Giroux is great on the mic, Adrienne helps him, and Warrior isn't bad himself.</p>
  5. Mo is attractive because he feels like the sort of guy who would be huge IRL, and who would be an effortless star. I'm pretty sad he's got a negative personality to be honest because I'm always tempted to give him a push.

Very much agree. Everything about him is interesting. Brit, legit background, Star Quality. He could be groomed into a star. But the negativity of the personality just makes me not want to. Not when I can grab someone like Chad Zuma who is a bit older but offers some similar dynamics. In that sense, the ThunderVerse suffers from having too many options. It doesn't force you into the corner of using this guy, with his flaws, or not having anyone else who can offer the positives he does.

  6. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="MarslArts" data-cite="MarslArts" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41411" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>So the trillion dollar belt has the 24/7 rule, is that what you mean by less hardcore Hardcore belt?<p> </p><p> Guess I'll have the united states and the television belt unified somewhere down the line.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> The Trillion Dollar belt doesn't have a canon usage. So you book it how you want. Doing it with a 24/7 rule is just how someone decided to use it. Personally, I'll probably transition it into a type of Cruiserweight title. </p><p> </p><p> Personally, I like the company having a glut of belts. From there, look to add positive personalities, create positive relationships between positive personalities, and be careful how you deal with negative personalities. I've mentioned this before, but given how much talent the Tverse has, I hesitate to push those with really negative personalities - like Mo or Merengue - as its just not worth the hassle.</p>

So a few suggestions / tips on that: </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Sports Entertainment Tips</strong></p><p> </p><p> -look at the WWE. Or WWF. Any period really. Look at the formatting of the shows, and you get a pretty good idea of how to structure shows and present things. </p><p> </p><p> -don't overthink the idea of storylines. In truth, all wrestling products use some form of storytelling, even if they are a very "legit" product. They still use feuds and grudges to justify why two (or more) people want to compete in a ring. SE just adds some flash and flourish to it, making it about more. But the majority of feuds and storylines in your typical SE product can still just be about "I want your title", "I want to prove I'm better than you" or "I want to take something from you". </p><p> </p><p> -popularity is what matters. Fans want your most popular wrestlers. So give them to them. Feature your top talent on every show. Angles or matches, but have them on the show. In TEW, an SE company can have a show anchored by strong angles. And good talkers who are popular can give you those. </p><p> </p><p> -find angles that use workers to their strengths. Create angles if you have to. </p><p> </p><p> -look for workers with a "hook". That can be great Entertainment skills, Menace, or Sex Appeal. These workers can build up popularity relatively easily if booked well. Even if you aren't looking to move them up the card, it can be transferred to someone else. </p><p> </p><p> -this is true of any product, but you can't push everyone at once. It can help to categorize your workers a bit. Who is your ace? Who are the main event anchors? who are the backbone workhorses? Jobbers to the stars? Who are the prospects you want to build? This can help structure your shows and feuds. </p><p> </p><p> -popularity is king. So a popularity worker who is pretty mediocre in the ring is still pretty valuable. Especially if they have a hook. Whereas a great in-ring talent with no popularity is less valuable. At least for now. </p><p> </p><p> -how you structure your shows can vary. Personally, I start by adding the angles I want, add a strong main event (often a tag or even 3v3), reasonable semi main event, and then the remainder of the card doesn't worry me much. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>AWF Specific</strong></p><p> -Hawk and Dolla are money. MONEY. They can carry the company for awhile. Giroux is up there too. </p><p> </p><p> -I generally continue the starting storylines for a while. I keep Tyrannus out of the ring in the main feud, using him in angles and dark matches against jobbers to build up his skills. </p><p> </p><p> -trying to change too much too quickly can create a mess. Like adding a whole ton of indy talent. While that's fun, most lack the popularity to be overly useful in the short-term. </p><p> </p><p> -I am guilty of under-using the ladies in most AWF saves. But pick a couple of the best ones and build the division around them. Use them to bring the others up in skill. </p><p> </p><p> -its canon that the AWF hasn't done that well with the tag division in recent years, even going so far as to deactivate the belts for a time. So it needs to built back up. Multiple ways to do it. </p><p> </p><p> -look at how the WWE uses special attractions and you can get an idea of how to use the likes of Immortal Warrior and Towerblock. Neither of them are quite The Undertaker (and specifically, The Streak) nor Chris Jericho, but it gives you an idea. Use them as surprise partners in main event tag teams. Use them to tag with younger guys to build them up.</p>

Plenty of AWF love in here. </p><p> </p><p> To start with, are you comfortable running Sports Entertainment type promotions as a whole? I don't know why but he's the one main eventer I want to depush and let go of asap. Maybe it's just a distaste for the Patriot gimmick that gets me.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Its a pretty generic gimmick, but I think there is room in there for some fun in how you interpret it. In a sense, Hulk Hogan, "Lex Express" Lex Luger and Jim Duggan all used the patriot gimmick at some point, but quite differently. I don't mind Patriot because he's a solid hand, makes for easy feuds, functions well as a mentor in throw together tag teams, and so on. Basically, he's a really nice upper mid gatekeeper type. So I definitely like what he brings to the table as a whole.</p>

But with that Consistency... at least he's consistently awful. </p><p> </p><p> Definitely needs a spell in developmental to start out with. On the upside, he is able to increase in size to Giant if he's willing to, so you can get his Star Quality and Menace up to A* if he accepts. </p><p> </p><p> Gargantuan is more ready but has some weaknesses too, and starts out with a negative personality. If you push him hard, that's going to get worse.</p>
  14. So how do you deal with a huge talent roster. Through hook & crook I usually end up with a gigantic roster. I always pledge that I won't do it but I love to collect. I'm also adverse to taking a "C" pop guy (I don't have a women's division cause that would make the issue even worse) and just jobbing them out even if that's what I planned to use them for (a worker with good skills but little charisma to get some match grades up).

I notice many diaries and posts talk about the huge rosters. I have a three hour show and also am not crazy about brand splits* though at some point I usually do one. So what are some ways to manage a huge roster?

    * Actually I do use a B-brand split that is just for jobber storage, real jobbers not C level guys brought in to pop grades and maybe form tag teams.

Easiest option... don't bloat the roster. Saves you money, saves you time, allows your booking and storytelling to be more concise....

If the bloat isn't too bad, you can probably handle it with a B show and using the A show for the upper card goes. You can use a lot of stables, so talent are basically always grouped together - each angle has several involved, so you are using more of the roster for each segment. If the bloat is bad, adding a second A show becomes almost necessary. And that just makes booking much slower, whether you brand split or not.

As for Dread II....some nice suggestions, gents. I honestly hadn't really gone digging for options. I've mostly been updating some renders. There are a couple Gargantuan renders where he has a Vader-style mask and that's where the thought came from. But as Jon says, Gargantuan (and Prometheus for that matter) lack the athleticism to really be a nice Dread.

I guess it really depends on how "similar" I would want to be. There are some athletic heavyweights - Primus being the most athletic - but the level of athlete drops as you move into Big Heavyweights. Primus is a great shout but I already have some plans for him. Same with Scythe. And Ekuma - already have some ideas. Hellion just doesn't have the athleticism. I'm really liking the Grave Digger idea but that's gonna be a waiting game. I guess finding someone who fits in a lot of ways should be difficult, as Dread was a unique talent. Highly athletic big men who are actually really good workers should be rare.

  15. So a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was eyeballing an SWF save almost purely because of the new Mainstream Hernandez render that I really dig. I ended up poking around in Supreme, deciding I didn't want to deal with some of the negatives, and ended up tackling CGC instead. It took two tries to get things "right" and I'm a couple months in, but the DeColt-centric booking is already a bit meh. I realize I don't HAVE TO book that way, but its the easiest way to ensure solid grades and some growth. But I has me lusting for a bigger Sports Entertainment company without better overall popularity. Been going back and forth a bit between the SWF or the AWF in the ThunderVerse. Leaning toward Supreme.

One of the things I started doing in the CGC save that I've done before but moved away from for no particular reason is rebranding workers. Hiring an indy worker, then giving them a new name. For example, I remade Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Findlay O'Farrady into Gunner and Barrage, the new version of the Soldiers of Fortune. Aldous Blackfire became Jakob Misery. A few guys went under masks. It adds a bit of fun and makes the save feel a bit more unique, even if you are using many of the same workers as previous saves.

As is typical for me, picking and choosing the new signings will be tough part. Don't want to bloat up the roster and developmental too much. I will open a second developmental company and stock it with talent, as well as open a B show to give TV time to guys I want to build up. But there are plenty of solid midcard vets in Supreme who can anchor the show.

One idea I've toyed with - signing a big worker with a great look who is pretty athletic and creating a "new" Dread. Just gotta settle on whom.

  16. I think like seven years in? I am fudging it a bit with a lot of cheats, but my 4C game is more of a relaxing experience for me than any other saves where I'm playing it legit.

As long as you are enjoying it, that is all that matters. Plus even if you are gaming the um...game, it really is not cheating. The way I look at it is, if Adam has given you the option to do it then it is not cheating.

Very much agree with BHK. We sometimes forget this. There is a reason that the game has so many options for features that can be turned off now - its about how you want to play. Short of someone talking up what they have "accomplished" when they used workarounds to get there (which is obviously not what's happening here), then its really about what makes the game fun. Even if someone is outright editing - not really an issue if you are enjoying and up front about it. Sometimes that isn't going for growth as fast as possible and trying to grow the company. Sometimes its just running fun storylines with fun characters. I'm very much guilty of not doing that kind of save nearly often enough.

  17. So through the second month. Made about $150K in total so far, so at least money is going up. I will probably put a few more workers on written contracts soon but avoid opening the developmental territory just yet. The few workers I've signed who I'd like to develop long term but just aren't ready to do much with yet are almost all on PPA deals so I can use them here and there. It just slows the process down a bit, but there isn't really a need to rush talent at this point.

Seeing popularity grinding up fairly quickly on Jack, Ricky, and Price. The higher popularity of the DeColts means that they are kept strong, so they have high momentum, which makes popularity gains easier. Gargantuan is going up too, but I'm trying to be careful because his skills need some work too. The popularity gains mean its easier to get good show grades (yay) but creating more of a popularity gap from those very top workers to the fringe main eventers slash upper mid talent.

My main groupings of young talent that I've signed are an un-named loose stable of Davis Wayne Newton, Ernest Youngman, and Greg Gauge. Newton has moved up in popularity quicker than I expected and he's helping the others quite a bit. They are staples on the B show. Have a couple of younger babyfaces - Kirk Jameson and Princeton Pryce - but they aren't getting pushed too hard yet as Skip, Intrepid Ina, and Drake all can move up first. They benefit from a loose association with Price. And then the newest version of the Soldiers of Fortune (Bulldozer Brandon and Findlay renamed) are getting a gradual push and will probably become a key tag team before long.

No titles moved yet. Probably going to take the Canadian title off of Blockbuster before too long, and the tag belts will move too. But Jack might hold onto the world title for quite a while. Gargantuan could be built up to take it off of him, but that would mean some pretty protective booking for the champion. So I'm mulling giving a pretty hard push to Sayid Ali and Greg Black and having one of them take it off of Jack by about mid year. Ali has been renamed to Rhino Drake and I kinda like the thought of giving him a push to take him to the top of the company. A different kind of monster for the DeColt's to face.

Still gotta decide what I'm going to do to make the WrestleFest special in terms of matches.

  18. <p>So finished the first month and made a huge profit. I think it was $37K. Lol but better by miles than losing 100K per week. Things went pretty much the same for the most part. Solid shows - hitting B, close to B+. Most top workers who are involved in storylines have gone up a grade in popularity, or thereabouts. </p><p> </p><p>

Right now, the weekly touring show is helping to keep the finances solid. May drop it when I can. Its not massively burdensome to book - like I mentioned before, I just worry about putting most of the written contract workers on it each week. But if I wanna open a developmental territory before too long, it also makes sense to keep making money rather than dropping the tour show, then spending the money to open a child company with workers to populate it. </p><p> </p><p>

Creating a tangled web of positive relationships by using positive meddling on workers with positive personalities. Also trying to avoid overpushing some of the younger guys to avoid having their personalities tank. So far so good.</p>

I've never watched TNA but it's always seemed to me that the Bound for Glory series ended up being a nonsensical cluster**** and this is probably what would happen as well. Just reading the wikipedia it sounds like a cluster**** to keep track of, "Points are earned in a variety of ways and can be won in a variety of match types. 10 points for submission victory, 7 points for a pinfall victory, 5 points for a countout victory, 3 points for a DQ victory, 2 points for a draw, and minus 10 points for a DQ loss. Special matches can also be made where the winner of the match can be awarded up to 25 points." I can imagine a DeColt returning from injury and joining the tournament midway and getting like 2 submission wins and a special match to win it all out of nowhere. I love how much the BFG series fits how you described. Different rules year to year, mid-way through a tournament they'll change 10 minute time limits to 15 and then randomly a match goes to 16 with no explanation. And 2016 was just a straight tournament. <p> </p><p> If I was writing a diary around this and not really concerned with putting on stories I'm into, I'd have to inevitably go gung-ho with everyone is bland besides DeColts and the guys they have to beat, and Alex is a psycho. There'd have to be an eventual point where either Alex gets a change of heart or Jack/Ricky/Steve (one of them) takes over, or they get bought out by NOTBPW, or someone left field like DaLay or whoever comes in and takes over. But idk how much I'd be invested in that. So for now, Alex DeColt hired Dan DaLay who is actually a huge entertainment nerd and gives everyone gimmicks from the latest movie he's watched or comic book he's read.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Maybe it is my WCW love shining through. But the canon issues for CGC are that the booking is formula, bland, repetitive. Not actually poor or wrestle-crap or anything else. So I just like the thought of one thing being constantly booked poorly. And that it, ironically, generally does not include the DeColt's. Almost as if its done intentionally, so when talent complains about the DeColt lord-dom over the company, Alex can point to the tournament and say "this is what happens with no DeColt's". </p><p> </p><p> Although I didn't go as far as Star Lord characterization, its actually not that far from what I'm doing with Price. Basically, he's got an edge that the DeColt's lack. Not sure which direction that leads - maybe he "influences" Ricky to be an evolved DeColt. Maybe that causes a heel turn for Jack down the road. Any number of possibilities.</p>

As in, the tournament happens BECAUSE there isn't a DeColt involved. You would think that some talent would be vocal in their griping over the years. So much like WCW bookers made promises to placate the cruiserweight and midcard guys but then never bothered to deliver because who really cares about guys like Rey Mysterio and Dean Malenko.... The tournament started as a way for non-DeColt's to get a chance to shine. Its a go-to solution for Alex (and daddy George before that) to placate some of the griping talent.... but that's also precisely why it ends up being a giant mess every year. No DeColt's means there isn't focus and it gets backburned and turns into a half-hearted mess. </p><p> </p><p> I put way too much thought into this, but whenever I get into a save, I always start to look at things through a "what if I was writing a diary / BTB around this". And that was just an idea that seemed fun to me. </p><p> </p><p> Of course there is no canon tournament. But that's partly explainable by it not being an annual thing - they break out the idea when they need to stop the griping for a bit. And because its treated so bleh as it unfolds, its not really seen as a true "title" in that sense.</p>
  21. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Jon The GOAT" data-cite="Jon The GOAT" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41392" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>That is mostly what I turn to as well. My Elimination was 6 3v3 (except the opener which was a 3v3v3). <p> </p><p> Initially I wanted Luck of the Draw to be a Royal Rumble style event (the name works really well with it), but I also like Last Man Standing as that. Still, Luck of the Draw right before WrestleFestival would make deciding the challenger(s) really easy. I'm in love with WarGames stipulation but I'll probably move that to Apocalypse or something. IRL I don't like the WWE method of gimmick for non-major too but in-game, I actually think it makes coming up with ideas and booking a lot easier xD I'm a pretty structural dude, I find it easier to just fit things into an easy system. </p><p> </p><p> Going heel with Black would've made sense. Only reason I didn't was pretty half-hearted. I needed two faces to team with Alan Parent so the opener 3v3 that was heels vs. heels could become heels vs. heels vs. faces. </p><p> </p><p> I think I'll be pushing the Titans too hard for there to be a popularity gap. I haven't done a long term SE game so we will see how it works out.</p><p> </p><p> Oh, tournament wise I haven't given it too much of a thought. Not sure if Round Robin makes much sense in CGC. I'd like to do the ROH-style SOTF but Chamber of Horrors right after makes it hard. </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Having a system isn't a bad thing. And it kinda fits with the "same old DeColt crap" problem that plagues CGC in Cverse canon. </p><p> </p><p> Regarding a tournament.... I kinda like the idea of having CGC do one annually that isn't really recognized much because they always mess it up so much. Pure TNA stuff or WCW in 2000 stuff. Format and rules that don't just change year to year, but are unclear and opaque each year, to the point where stuff seems to be changing on the fly. One of those things that starts with a lot of hype and then just fizzles. Matches happen on house shows with no information to TV viewers, so suddenly it goes from halfway through round 1 to midway through round 2, with no explanation. People are replaced without real explanation. That kind of thing. The canon is that CGC is boring and repetitive, not haphazard and crap, but I just think it would be fun / interesting to have it be something they manage to screw up every single year. Except the years where a DeColt featured, in which case it got due attention. </p><p> </p><p> You will need more than the Titans to cover that popularity gap, though. Those popularity gaps aren't a terrible thing when they happen, but they just make it tough to book. Like if you only have one or two heels with true main event level popularity, it just limits what you can do for feuds that will grade well, etc. </p><p> </p><p> So it looks like third time is a charm for me. I booked through Elimination. Similar approach to the booking, but with being smart with the signings. We are about 100K down but that is almost entirely going to be the signing bonuses we had to hand out for the few written deals that were signed. Took a pretty big contract to keep Ricky in house. Right now, I'm running the B show (named Ambition) and the weekly tour show. But if the finances can handle it, I will probably drop the tour show. To be honest, the shows are a bit easier to book as with less written deals, I'm not as concerned with making sure those folks get on the main TV show and the tour show (since its an event) to keep them happy. I haven't tried to be cautious on minimizing how many PPA workers I use or anything, but I'm really not looking to penny pinch.</p>
  22. Are you running with any 'gimmicks' for the PPVs?

I had Elimination, went over decent. Got a 68, not the best but eh. Probably going to try and close out most of the starting storylines at Luck of the Draw. Match stipulations will get drawn out of a hat or something.

Not quite sure what I'll do for DeColt WrestleFestival yet. Probably Gargantuan & Jack DeColt's final match and a Jack DeColt vs. Ricky DeColt match once Ricky beats Thrill Seeker in the Best of 7. A ton of the faces that start with the company need some work/something more to them. Ricky will need to step out of Jack's shadow but the heel route is a bit too obvious.

I'm pretty sure Black Stone/Greg Black will helm my Canadian title for a while. He's an auto main event and a defacto #4 face.

Heel wise, Thrill Seeker is pretty much the only guy at the DeColt's/Price/Black level and he's still a step behind all of them. It'll be a work in progress getting the Titans (Prometheus/Bulldozer/Findlay) and Gargantuan up to their level.

Self posted this on the very first page of this thread, which I lifted ideas from:

Elimination - Survivor Series team matches.

Luck of the Draw - Fighters get randomly assigned weapons, often comedy ones.

WrestleFestival - Big outdoor festival season finale. Typically involves another company being invited to participate, but Alex opposes alliances now, so I dunno. Guest stars?

Chaos In The Cage - Cage Matches

In The Company of Legends - Hall of Fame inductions

Ultimate Showdown - End of the Ultimate Showdown Series, which is a two month round robin league.

The Battle Beyond - Bog standard

Last Man Standing - Royal Rumble, but entry order isn't random. It's determined by fan voting (popularity)

    Apolcalypse - Bog standard

Survival of the Fittest - Fitness competition angles! Gladiators style. I make it a 'shoot' by using WreSpi stats.

Chamber of Horrors - Big Chamber. More Hell in a Cell than Elimination Chamber

I've stolen a few. Elimination is elimination matches, Survivor Series style. But while I would prefer 5v5 or even 4v4, I went with 3v3 just to spread the popularity out at least a bit.

Luck of the Draw... going back to a gimmick I used in an AWF diary where they had one game-show style segment each TV episode, with a spin wheel to determine the stipulation and another to determine the prize on the line. The idea was to end up with some goofy matches like sumo matches (wearing the big sumo suits), pillow fights, teddy bear matches, and so on. So I'll probably go back to that for this PPV.

Definitely wanna do a tournament but no sure which one will be the finale. Legends, Showdown, Fittest... any of them could work. . Chaos in the Cage might be a War Games style cage match. Last Man Standing will probably be a royal rumble. Honestly, I don't like the WWE method of going gimmick for every non-major PPV as that limits the booking a bit too much.

I went the heel option with Grouch Black. Another talented guy to put on good matches with the DeColt's Price, etc.

Building up the popularity of the top guys isn't that hard, I found. But you do wanna be careful you don't end up with a big gap between the very top guys (the two DeColt's, Price, Gargantuan, even Thrill Seeker) and the next guys. That popularity gap can create booking issues.

  23. It looks like unless you patiently save for a Network, you need to start having a ton of shows outside Canada to eventually upgrade your deals. And unfortunately, C-Verse doesn't have a lot of smaller local networks either so it would take quite a while to build the right pop across a whole country to get a TV/PPV deal there. A lot easier in CV97 where you have a ton of one-region networks.

I actually checked out CGC and started a game with them. Didn't realize how bland a lot of the starting characters felt, a lot of same-y generic gimmicks and what not.

Signed a few of the standard guys. Greg Gauge renamed to Greg Keith. Masked Cougar renamed to Black Cougar (I'm thinking he'll play a Batman-esque character). Kirk Jameson renamed to Clint Ronin, he'll probably play off his Marksman gimmick a lot but with Warren Technique around I don't want him to just be a generic technical wizard. Findlay O'Farraday renamed to Menoethius, will join a faction led by brother Prometheus. Bulldozer Brandon Smith renamed to Epimitheus, also joining Prometheus's faction. Logan Wolfsbaine renamed to "Glorious" Logan Diaz. You know what his default theme song is. Greg Black renamed to Black Stone.

Elimination being the 1st PPV is basically a free pass to starting a ton of stables. Whippy The Clown will basically become Joker, putting a smile on generic heels like Joey Poison (okay, he's not that generic) and Ryan Powell. Del Veccio will form the Underworld Mafia with Marc Raisin and Dermott Ayres (they all had Underworld gimmicks, so). The faces don't quite have gimmicks yet.

I like the idea of Alex DeColt trying to make Greg Keith the son he never had and getting him to forsaken his name. I also like the idea of Intrepid Ian Identity becoming obsessed with becoming a DeColt to a sort of stalker-ish point. He'll totally get renamed to a DeColt at some point, whether the legit DeColts want it to happen or not. He probably won't like Greg being courted by Alex either.

I'm definitely gonna toe the line between cartoonish & sports entertainment here. Still a ton of guys I'll need to come up with something for. Blockbuster's Metal Head shtick might basically make me turn him into Aggretsuko (if you haven't seen the Netflix anime/cartoon, it's basically this character who deals with the shittiness/stress/frustrations of life by doing death metal karaoke).

I think the bolded is fairly true of any Sports Entertainment company, at least to an extent. CGC being a step worse makes sense and could be intentional - this is The DeColt Show and no one gets to outshine them. So fairly basic characters and gimmicks rather fits with that.

Nice to see you giving them a run out. Fun approach with Keith.

Booked a couple of shows on the new save. Signed less talent, most of them just on PPA anyway. No developmental company yet. Had some fun renaming workers. Have Findlay and Bulldozer named to Barrage and Gunner as the Soldiers of Fortune Elite. Used the rename function with the edited name file to create most of the rest. I should probably start cutting a few contracts as the likes of Alan Parent can get gone.
