  1. I'm curious to see what the buyrates were for WK9. Males 18-39 are still the top PPV buying audience and I wonder if this one event did well in that demo stateside. I don't think NJPW is giving WWE serious competition. At least not yet. This time next year though NJPW will have had a TV show on so we'll see. But if WWE feels a little pressure from them I wouldn't mind that too much.
  2. I know there's an NJPW thread but I'm posting here because I think the conversation is more relevant here. But after Wrestle Kingdom 9 does WWE have legit international competition again? Yes? No? Thoughts?
  3. +1 on This War of Mine. It's tough for games to be emotionally heavy yet fun to play. This game did this for me. And it doesn't really force you to play any one way. You can try to walk through the game honestly, which keeps your people happier but you eat when fate decides. Or you can lie, cheat, and kill your way into getting what your people need. Yea you're eating but your people don't feel all that great about eating food they picked off of an innocent corpse. Either way is a legit strategy with serious pros and cons. And what I love about the balance is it's near impossible to do strictly one or the other. The game forces you to choose. I feel these choices as a player. It's not a game I'l play for the next ten years or anything but for what it is, it's a hell of an experience.
  4. I would say the difference is quality of opponent. Brock beat one cupcake opponent. José Alberto Rodríguez (Del Rio) basically fought nothing but unranked fighters his entire career. Brock's first UFC fight was against former champion Frank Mir. Brock made one rookie mistake and got caught by the guy who was, at that time, the best american BJJ practitioner active in MMA. At that time anyway. He then beat Heath Herring, who is easy to disregard in 2014 but when Brock fought him he was considered very good. I believe Herring was around rank #20 in the world at the time. He was coming off of a boring win over Kongo and before that had taken Big Nog (who at the time of that fight was a top 5 heavyweight) to a decision but got beat. A thing to note was that was Big Nog's UFC debut and Herring was supposed to be a cupcake for him. He was not. Then it gets dicey for Lesnar. He had beaten one ranked opponent and got a shot at UFC hall of famer Randy Couture, who everyone discredits because of his age at the time of the fight but he was still an excellent fighter. Like, as in THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION. Now some say Dana White hated Randy and wanted him to lose, but he JUST SIGNED THE GUY for a massive contract. If anything he was setting up Brock. Brock was probably the least experienced fighter Couture had ever fought. And Randy was no stranger to beating up much bigger opponents. Of course, he'd been away for some time so I understand the discrepancies, but please. Brock TKOed UFC HAll of Famer Randy Couture in the second round. Give the man his due. Also of note, Randy would go on to win 3 more UFC fights. So he was not "done" when Lesnar fought him as many of his detractors would like to make you believe. Anyway, after that fight Brock GnPed the face off of Frank Mir, who was ranked number 3 heavyweight in the entire world at the time only behind Fedor and Big Nog. Mir hasn't been in the top ten since Then Lesnar fought the scariest puncher in all of MMA at the time and took everything the guy had to throw at him. Then subbed his ass immediately in the second round. Then Brock lost two fights. First against the guy who still holds the belt and is considered one of the greatest heavyweight fighters in the history of the sport in Cain. Finally by a guy who is the single greatest technical striking heavyweight of all time. And that's legit. Overeem is one of the most accomplished heavyweight strikers in the world. And Brock fought this guy 6 months after having a foot of his digestive tract removed.... Forgive me if I feel you're selling the man short a bit. Now, José Alberto Rodríguez' career is also improperly disrespected too often. I'm not going to crap on his career simply to make a point. He fought nothing but professional MMA fighters, but his lone noteworthy opponent knocked him out in 45 seconds. And he was never even remotely considered good enough to be signed by the UFC. Their careers are in no way comparable to each other. They were simply in different leagues when it comes to their MMA careers. Literally.
  5. I think we could take a peak at Payne's post count and maybe have enough respect not to suspect him of viral marketing... Anyway... Good to voice the opinion of those of us that do love this game. So much negativity around here sometimes but I guess that's the nature of a message board dedicated to a game. The people having problems are always more motivated to post than the people who are busy playing the game.
  6. I was so excited to see Goldust wrestle a solo match. But he looked old as hell in that match.
  7. There were a decent number of people who felt like WWe was going to "Screw up" Kevin Steen. I certainly had my doubts. Those doubts are more than settled. Very happy with what I saw.
  8. D did you play Beyond Earth? I think it was you who got me to come around on Civ 5 after the last big DLC. I was curious to hear trustworthy opinions on Beyond Earth.
  9. Critics just love to ooze praise at Nintendo
  10. Just remember, those "reports" reported a bunch of B.S. in the first place. According to punk anyway
  11. Punk's interview was a great listen. Fantastic show. I took issue with a few points. I don't know how to feel about it. Definitely an interesting look into a wrestler's psyche, something you don't get too much of too often.
  12. Its a rare show that thrills from top to bottom. I felt this was one of them. If not close to it. I enjoyed everything except the Adam Rose match. My point is AT WORST you saw a mediocre midcard with an incredible main event. Traditionally its pretty rare that all 3 hours of a wrestling show thrill everyone watching for every minute. A show where you get one memorable, enjoyable hour of PPV wrestling... thats great stuff man.
  13. Yes SS was awesome. The only real criticism I'm reading here or anywhere else is "Meh. First two hours were average. Main event was the only thing memorable." Oh you mean that breathtaking HOUR of WWE programming? LOL. Hate it break it to you, wrestling fans, but since you're so used to complaining all the time you don't even know when you're being entertained. If you watch a mediocre undercard and the last hour was a universally loved AWESOME main event... you just watched a hell of a PPV. Thank me later, folks.
  14. Hmm. I don't know. Enjoyed the whole show. Loved Mizdow winning the tag titles. Loved Brie kissing AJ. Enjoyed the Divas SS match more than I thought I would. Dean vs Bray wasn't an amazing 5 star classic but it WAS a damn fun match to watch. Main event was awesome. I had a blast watching it.
  15. Yep totally. You have an industry where you have thousands upon thousands of hopefuls. They all work tirelessly, writing several books at once in some cases to be one of the few guys who can make a nice living doing it. The road to success is a brutal, cutthroat, and highly competitive environment every day, even when you're on top. Breaking into said business is extremely difficult. Surviving in it is harder. Becoming successful at it is next to impossible, with very few guys truly being able to claim that honor. Doesn't sound like the wrestling business at all. COMPLETELY insane comparing the two. But I digress, let's go ahead and bring the board back to it's normally scheduled programming. WWE sucks, John Cena sucks, The Authority is on TV too much, and NXT is awesome. We're back on track, boys!
  16. Oh its "somewhat regular"... like....uhm...BATISTA? ? LOL He is writing for the one of the biggest selling issues of the year. And taking a nice check i might add. There's a lot of comic book writers who do this every day for years and have to go through pretty absurd lengths so get a gig like that.... Just saying...
  17. CM Punk is writing for Thor. Well well well... the part time outsider coming in for the big payday and taking the spot of the guys who do it day in and day out doesn't seem like such a bad gig after all I guess.
  18. I've read a lot of cynicism with WWE-visionist history playing a big part of the depiction of WCW on the network. Most of you guys seem to feel like WWE doesn't give them enough credit. I honestly disagree. With all due respect to WCW Monday Nitro circa mid 1996, it was an unwatchable show if Scott Hall and Kevin Nash weren't on it. Only children and the most hardcore of adults fans could sit through a full episode of that crap. Sting got cool towards the end of that year, but all this talk of "They were kicking out butts creatively" is absurd. They had one concept and did something very cool with it. The rest of WCW's card, even as the years went on, was mostly garbage. The cruiserweights and the Flock and some cool midcard stories make for good memories, but we forget the rest of the garbage that flooded those horrendous two and then three hours. Raw was trash too, don't get me wrong. Right before oth companies hit their biggest heights they were both doing pretty bad TV from top to bottom. The two companies were basically guilty of the same exact thing at the time: A well developed main event picture and a horrible underdeveloped everything else. Things got better for them once they both started ripping off ECW but that's another rant entirely. TL;DR: WCW sucked just as bad as WWF when Hall and Nash first jumped ship. No more. No less.
  19. WWE tells documentaries from their point of view lol. They're not passing this off as hard hitting journalism. And to be honest with you the monday night wars series, if anything, is a bit overly complementary of some of the things WCW did. Especially the Bill Goldberg episode. I eyerolled at some of that nonsense. My biggest beef with the WWE network documentaries is they tend to repeat themselves. A LOT. A lot of the same interviews, the same clips over and over and over again. If you only watch Monday Night Wars you'll never notice. But once you watch Wrestlemania rewind, the Rivalries episode, the"beyond the ring" docs from their DVD releases, etc... you definitely notice. I'm pretty sure I heard Xpac say he made A LOT of money from Stone Cold about 10 thousand times. Oh he said it again in the brand new show?? Great...
  20. Hell in a Cell was a fantastic PPV imo. Every match was good. Some were great. Ambrose/Rollins was awesome. Great ending
  21. I'd go with The Wire over Oz if we're bringing premium cable dramas into the mix. And then there's also Dexter. I mean the dude Butchered people and made humorous, heartwarming little assessments about himself and others while doing. I'd say Walking Dead and SOA are the goriest on regular cable though. And what they get away with on Hannibal on NBC is astounding from a gore standpoint. It gives both SOA and WD a run for their money.
  22. We'll see. I'm going to play it because it's an action game and if you own a next gen console, beggars can't be choosers.
