  1. Not to start yet another argument on here because that is not what I am trying to do. But what about Bill Russell? 11 Championships says that he is the greatest winner of all time.

I know little to nothing about Russell so its hard for me to say how he performed in the clutch. I mean he obviously was a winner but he was also surrounded with more talent than MJ compared to when MJ played. MJ won a championship his last 6 full years with the Bulls.

  2. Jordan is the greatest winner of all time. The guy would will his team to victory when they needed him to. The closest thing in the NBA to MJ right now is Kobe Bryant.

Lebron hides behind excuses. Lebron is a great player but hes not the winner or competitor of the all time great players that refused to lose.

Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Kobe Bryant to name a few

  3. How? How on earth does a poorly written reaction prove Dan Gilbert cares about winning?

And now Gilbert's saying LeBron quit not only this year but last year? The man is living in a fantasy world. It's not LeBron's fault he had a defensive coach who couldn't take advantage of offensive sets that actually put the most athletic player in the league in motion without the ball.

Also if LeBron didn't care about winning why would he make this deal? Seems like loyalty and money are the reasons to stay.

Garnett did the exact same thing 3 years ago (sans annoying press conference) and nobody whined about how he "betrayed" the Timberwolves or accused him of not trying hard enough in all of their post-season losses.

Garnett did nothing like such. He actually wanted to stay with the Twolves for some unearthly reason 3 years ago. Ownership had to convince him to be traded.

He made the deal to protect his "brand" which is all he seems to care about. He had to make it seem like it was all about winning since people have started to doubt his ability to win.

And I believe mostly everyone believes Lebron quit in the playoffs this past year. That isnt earth shattering news. Gilbert is just repeating what Cleveland fans are thinking right now. Its over reaction and Im sure he will say hes sorry in the future but Id feel the same way if I was him or his fans.

Its like dating a girl for 7 years and giving her everything she asked for, then have her not call you for two months, and finally having it ended by watching her screw another guy on live TV.

  4. Rafael Soriano and Heath Bell made the all-star team as subs and I agree with this 100%

Bell is the closer for the MLB best pitching staff the Padres and Soriano is the Closer for the AL's best pitching staff and 4 or 5 in MLB the Rays

Bell has been the closers since Hoffman left two years ago and Soriano took over this year for a bullpen that truely needed him.

this makes four rays now :) and I am hoping Niemann finds his way onto the team as well :p

they are also talking about Weaver taking CC (sabathia) spot of the roster. I wish it would be Niemann whose has less loses, 1 less win, and a lower ERA, but the game is in Angels stadium so I get why it will happen.

I thought Girardi had already said he was taking Pettitte to put into Sabathia's spot. He called it one of the perks in being the coach of the All Star team.

  5. Maybe, but also this isn't the first time he hasn't hustled on plays before. Also that was two years ago before he had that shoulder surgey. People in Tampa with how our budget is, can't worry about two years ago. He complains because he isn't the leadoff hitter, but yet does nothing to prove he should be there. His avg has dropped each year since 07 when he batted 300 and everyone thought we had a stud. He plays a shallow center which helps him stop bloopers, but in a bigger park and even the trop he misses balls that go over his head.

If the Rays wait to see how things pan out by the end of the season, he could lose trade value. For a guy who will be 26 in Aug and is stats keep declining it's time to get what you can for him now and let him become big on another team if he turns it around. He isn't turning it around on the Rays and we don't have a manger who is going to push him to.

Also don't forget about Evan and Garza when you talk about carrying the load. Plus Upton is a so called leadoff hitter who strikes out 150 a year and OBP of only .315 the last two years.

Is WAR has dropped to the point where he'd be battling with other replacement players for a roster spot

I am not saying Upton isn't a talent and god everyone in Tampa has been praying for two year for him to repeat his performance from the playoffs. Fact is he hasn't and he's caused problems in the clubhouse with his attitude. Sometimes you have to learn to cut your loses with and talent when they just don't perform.

This is all true. Perhaps if they could get him for Upton and Davis while Seattle throws in a decent stick it could work out for them. Ive seen some of the Mariners demands and it seem insane what they are asking for a 2 month rental. They want both Ramos and Hicks from the Twins which I know the Twins wont do.

  6. I didn't say they needed him, but I could see him there. It would be an excuse to cut Upton loose too. Not only does he underachieve he's becoming a distraction from what I can tell. I don't follow them too closely but it's what I've heard from people. When you add Lee you can pencil in a few extra wins for your team, which might end up being the difference in the East.

I would much prefer him to go to the Rangers like I said. They could really use a bonafied ace for their playoff run. Give him their monster offense and they are serious WS contenders.

As bad as Upton has been these past 2 years he did carry them in the playoffs 2 years ago. I think giving up on him is a mistake. He has tons of talent.

  7. Seriously. You guys really think giving up a starting centerfielder and a stud young arm for Lee is worth it when you already have a stacked rotation of

    Price

    Garza

    Niemann

    Shields

Davis, hopefully soon it will be Hellickson.

They are already 1st in the AL in pitching. How much better can they get? It is hitting they need.

  8. I liked the trade to get the 30th and 35th. I didn't like the pick of Trevor because really he would have had to beat out Brewer who came back healthy this season and put decent numbers. Booker to me wasn't even a first round talent heading into the draft. His Offensives numbers were down across the board this year with assist the only one that rose by .7.

I thought the pick of Wesley Johnson was a smart one. It gives Flynn someone he is use to as well as a guy I believe could score 20 ppg by his 4 year. I thought coming into this draft the Wolves were pretty set in their starting line-up with the SG position being their only concern on the starting 5. Now they will go into the second round with two high picks in 30 and 35 and add depth to that bench. I am not saying this team will contend for the playoffs this year, but they had a nice first round with the possiblity of getting a future go to score in Johnson.

Hayward is a nice high % shooter that can play the SF, SG, and PG when they go big. He improved his inside the arch shooting while his outside dipped some. He also grabbed a good amount of rebounds. Also I loved the pick of Nemanja, he pretty much is a Hedo with out the long shot ability. He knows how to handle the ball and is tall enough he can play 4 positions on the court.

I thought the Wolves came out of the draft much improved. Once again those are just my thoughs.

The point with the Booker deal was not so much that the trading him for them picks was a bad trade it was the fact that they could have taken someone they could have used and not traded the pick for 2 guys that wont see the court.

And I disagree the wolves didnt improve much at all. They brought in similiar talent to what they already have + Wesley Johnson.

  9. <p>Im not sure why this interesting thread has to turn into this every couple of weeks but I think we need to get a little more "thick skinned."</p><p> </p><p>

Remi, Peter, and Lazor are some of the more educated sports fan in this forum. They may have opinions but isnt that part of what makes interesting discussions? You shouldnt be insulted every time they dont agree with you Gator. I am sure I have had some good discussions with them as well and it wasnt because I felt insulted because they didnt agree with me.</p><p> </p><p>

You obviously love sports so you should stick to that topic and stay away from the battles and discuss what you enjoy IMO.</p>

  10. <p>I guess that topic went terribly bad.</p><p> </p><p>

People may not like Lebron or think he gets by easy because he is Lebron. He may not even be able to up his game when the game is on the line. Even though I remember that game against Detroit where Lebron scored something like 30+ straight points to end the game. Its way too early to judge Lebron or Rose at this point and I guess that is why we may have strong opinions on this.</p><p> </p><p>

I just know some of the same things were said about Jordan when he was younger and it didnt take long for him to put all his critics to rest.</p><p> </p><p>

Perhaps we should talk about how bad the Twolves will mess up their draft again this year.</p>

  11. There really isnt a need to get defensive GB. You apparently see something in Rose that I dont I was kind of hoping you'd explain it a little bit. He does have some great skills and does seem to have the ability to step up his game in tough situations however he seems to drift a lot as well for some reason. Perhaps it is because he is young. I really dont think Lazor was being very tough on you about this. I'm sure you admit that it may seem odd to some people that you would have Rose ranked higher than King James without much explanation about it. I'd honestly like to hear more about it without you being on the defensive.

I could careless that Lebron avg 27/7/7 a game when he can't even win it all. Based off that stat, Lebron and Anderson V. were top 20 and their should have been nothing stopping the Cavs. C's didn't even have anyone on it. (talking about the wins per 48 min)</p><p> </p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Well if stats are meaningless to you unless a player wins it all your list suddenly makes even less sense. You have players on your list that have had a hard time making the playoffs some years.</p><p> </p><p> You make one argument that Lebron is overrated because he cant win it all while having Durant and Rose as your 3rd and 4th best players and they havent even made it out of the first round.</p><p> </p><p> Its like saying Tom Brady is a better QB than Peyton Manning because he has won more Super Bowls then turning it around and saying Donovan McNabb is better than Ben Roethlesberger because he puts up better numbers. It doesnt make sense.</p>
  13. <p>Kobe is normally top 10 in win shares. His value is more as a team leader and clutch player. He doesnt rebound or get steals like many of the other stars of the league.</p><p> </p><p>

Kind of goes hand in hand on why Kobe's teams werent very effective when they didnt have much around him though.</p>

  14. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="GatorBait19" data-cite="GatorBait19" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="27836" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>So you two are throwing a stat at me that was developed for baseball, neither of you can calculate, and their is no way for the stat to be decreased as the hear all tell all?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <a href="http://www.basketball-reference.com/about/ws.html" rel="external nofollow">http://www.basketball-reference.com/about/ws.html</a></p><p> </p><p> Also I dont believe anyone was just throwing this stat out at you. It seemed you just needed a refresher on who Lebron James is if you havent seen him play.</p>
  15. You can keep Rose where he is for all I care. Its your list.

It just doesnt make sense to me. Chris Paul and Deron Williams are the 2 best point guards in the NBA right now. I am not sure what part of Rose's game you even could think is better than them 2 right now.

Dwight Howard simply controls the lane and is the best big man in the NBA right now. As long as he can continue to rebound, dunk, pass, and block shots I would take him over a scoring point guard that isnt a great passer yet and plays poor defense.

I'm not a King James fan so I have no rooting interest if he wins more rings than MJ or Bryant. I just watch basketball and I understand the Lebron James is more important to his team than any other player in the NBA.

Put Derrick Rose on the Cavs and take Lebron off how many games do you think they win? Put Lebron on the Bulls and take Rose off how many games do you think they win?

My guess is the Cavs would have been around a 41-45 win team this year while the Bulls would have won around 55-60 games.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2010_leaders.html

Check out win shares towards the bottom. Lebron James is consistently 1 or 2 every year while Rose hasnt been able to crack the top 20 as of yet.

  16. Quoted for agreed completely. In no way, shape, form, or manner is Rose above any of those guys. He's at about the same level as Tony Parker for me: TP gets less individual offensive stats, but he also has 3 rings and plays on a team that actually wins games. And much as I like Parker, he's not a top 3 point guard, and probably not top 5. Rose is moving up while Parker is moving down, but right now he's closer to Russell Westbrook than Chris Paul or D-Wade.

Tony Parker is the perfect comparison to Rose right now. Great a getting to the hoop, streaky mid range shooters that arent known for their great defense.
