[HYPE] War Of The Immortals - A Mod by Tommy

Recommended Posts

May as well re-post it here. There'll be some additional details forthcoming. I don't know how it happened, but it did. It was October 1st, 2008, a normal day, like thousands of normal days before it. People went to work, they went home, they watched their televisions and laughed with their friends. But something was different. And I was the only one who noticed. My normal day, my normal existence was turned upside down by a lousy poster. I barely glanced at it as I walked to the subway, but something made me turn back. I thought it was a joke. I stared at it for a good minute. It confused and fascinated me, but it took a stranger to freak me out.
"I got tickets to that," said the middle-aged man. I wouldn't normally talk to a stranger outside a subway station, but this was different. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I bought a piece of paper that lets me get into the arena, genius - are you messed up?" he replied. I quickly corrected myself. "You more of a Mid-Atlantic man, ay? Or one of those OWW marks?" "I.. I guess," I replied. "I mean I watch the WWE?" "The what?" he replied. "What's the WWE?"
And that's when I knew, something had gone wrong. Horribly wrong. Over the next twenty minutes, the stranger told me everything (except his name). Every wrestler I could think of, old, young, alive, dead - they were all wrestling. Now. There was no Wrestlemania, no Attitude Era, no WCW, no ECW, no WWF or WWE or WWWF. There were promotions, successful promotions, all across the entire country. Wrestling was white-hot in every territory, with tens of millions of loyal fans. The Immortals of Wrestling were alive. And it was beautiful. Promotional Spotlight #1 - Big Apple Wrestling
The 'Capital Of The World' is home to one of America's most successful promotions, which caters to fans of sports entertainment across the North-East. With the promotion's two pillars - Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant, BAW captivates fans in New York and beyond, selling out Madison Square Garden with its regular supercards. And who wouldn't want to book The Dudley Boyz versus Demolition?
The Immortals
Vincent J. McMahon - The owner and promoter, The Grandaddy of Sports Entertainment is one of the most respected figures in the industry. Paul Heyman - The booking genius behind BAW, he has a surprisingly strong working relationship with the elder McMahon, who tempers some of his more outrageous ideas. Hulk Hogan - BAW is The Hulkster's chosen fed - for now. Andre The Giant - While Andre tours the country, it is in BAW that he has found most of his success. Cactus Jack - The Hardcore Legend brings the Hardcore fans, and is a cult hero amongst the promotions more loyal followers. Shane Douglas - The Franchise is a solid upper mid-carder here, but may not stay long if he doesn't break through the glass ceiling...
The Rest
Awesome, Backlund, Striker, Kanyon and....
This this cannot be:( lol hey whatever you make im gonna play:D But what do you mean 1st release is it coming in more then one part??
The idea is to get something out to the community as fast (and as good) as possible. The things that are more familiar will come out first, things that are a bit of a stretch (have to research intensely) will come later. Do not let him "down play" this mod. I have personally looked at it, and he has people from all aspects of the game. The size itself is not T-Zone size, but it's not small either. This Mod comes with a specific "Feel" in mind. I don't want to "Spoil" that part of it though. 1st release is just that... Every Modder ussually has a 1st. Release. You test it, then you release it to the public, and they find stuff you overlook ussually. All the while the modder is ussually working on "More" things for the mod, as the community helps "fix" any issue's that come up. Then another release is brought in. However... IF the MOD is released "Flawless" (however unlikely), the modder doesn't have to do the "fix's", and can be left to enhance it over time for a second release with more "stuff" in it.:D Tommy obviously has some idea's for the future of the mod, but doesn't want to hold it up any longer then he has to. This is always good for the community.

I'd like to point out that dj isn't being paid to be my public relations representative, even though he does a terrific job. To give an indication, there are currently 804 workers in the mod. I'd like to get it between 900-1000 before release, so its a few months off. All should have either a Crychon cut style pic, or for those who I can't source a decent resolution image for, a DOTT-style letterbox picture with the WOTI Logo. There's currently 25 feds, a number which may increase depending on how the game world plays once we get into '08.
I'd like to point out that dj isn't being paid to be my public relations representative, even though he does a terrific job.
Just want to allow people to get their hopes up for something a bit more interesting then what they probably thought in the first place... Reason's to come.
Well you know the suggestions I made to up the number. :D This fed is really going to make use of the new Regional and National battle features, people.
/nod...
Just to back up DJ, this is insanely awesome, people. :)
Yeah. Who doesn't want to see "Piper's Pit" vs. "The Cutting Edge"? One of the things I like already has not been mentioned yet. That is the way the game world is being set up promotion, roster, and canonical (if that's a word). It's going to make a bit more sense then people might think.... These are not just a bunch of "Favorite" wrestler's of all time thrown together to see what happens... There is actually a formula (or two) involved.
Any updates Big T?
There are character personalities to update, amongst other things. Tommy is doing this mainly himself.... Unless there are other's working on data that I don't know about. All I've done is make a couple of suggestions on additional workers. Tommy is inputting them himself, which is good.... One thing that sometimes hurts mods, is when you have several people doing the "SAME" things. If you have several people making worker's/character's for example..> You end up with different stat foundations... One person might see Snuka as being an A* flyer (back in the day)... But then another guy working on newer character's might set up someone like Jeff Hardy as B... As he has other's that he's working on that would be even better, so sets the scale a bit higher... So one person is better off doing that (in my opinion). Keeps things tighter, and scaled better.

Yep, running solo. I doubt that will change, I'm kind of a perfectionist. Might get some help with a 'real' location file, though I find those pretty pointless. I'll be sending new data out to the testers in the next few days, but there's still a while to go. At the moment, I'm still adding workers and finalising the rosters. After that is just as time-consuming, which is balancing the game world. I want WOTI to run like the Cornellverse or DOTT (or After The Fall :)), where there's a high level of control over the simulation. Still a few months off that.

Maybe a Hawaiian promotion could be used as a "bridge," with workers from both the US and Japan. Rather than the huge stars it could have guys who are worthy of appearing in the mod but not big enough names to deserve contracts with major promotions. And does anyone know who the ******* is who keeps giving one star ratings to mod threads?

Hawaii again Um well just to let you know almost every big name wrestler(well most of them) had at one time wrestled in hawaii. And im talking about the Von Erichs Nick Bockwinkle,The shiek,i could go on n on but nuff about that.Ok my queation is i presume this is set in a nother earth and if so how are you going to deal with the wrestlers getting older?? since the title of the mod is War Of The Immortals.

There's no set rule for ages. Most workers hit their peak at about 30, but some (Bockwinkel) a while later. For the sake of the game world, so there are some retired workers, managers, semi-active wrestlers etc, some workers are a little older. Freddie Blassie was a legendary worker, but in the game world I'm designing he's winding down his career. At the other end of the spectrum, the much older Ed 'Strangler' Lewis is still an active wrestler. It's all on a case-by-case basis, based on my own opinion and what I think makes the game world more fun. It's also all subject to change. If that didn't answer your question, I apologise. Hehe.
