Alan Parent & Ricky Douglas at 5:38, pinning Parent with the Antidote Web C Joanne Rodriguez & Dickie Gellar def. John Maverick & Lewis Starr at 6:53 with the J-Rocker C+ Main Show NYCW Tag Team Titles: The Latin Kings def. Future Shock at 10:56, when Cuervo sprayed hairspray in Marc Speed's eyes, leading to a Frankie Perez small package, and a third set of tag titles for the Kings. B Post match, The Kings tried to beat down Danny Jacobs, only to have Donnie J run in for the save. C Eric Tyler promo, where he decries Donnie J as a pretty boy, who was trying to step up to a man. Tyler announced that tonight, Donnie J would find out why he should stay in the tag ranks. A Eric Tyler pinned Donnie J. at 13:26 after the Tyler Driver '06. B+ Scout & Hell Monkey def. Jimmy Cox & Barry Kingman at 14:41, when Scout pinned Kingman after Danger Ahead. B+ Mean Jean Cattley was out next, calling Rip Chord from the announce booth. Cattley announced to the packed house that Chord had made a big decision -- he gave in to the Champ's demand. Chord announced that there would indeed be an Empire title match next week between Scout and Cattley, but it'd be a last chance title match -- if Scout didn't win, he would never get a shot as long as Cattley had the title. A Art Reed & Haruki Kudo def. The Insane Heat & Robert Oxford at 11:38, when Kudo pinned Oxford after the Kudo Kutter. A* Sam Keith is next on promo duty, claiming that he's tried to do things right in his career -- get things done in the ring and only getting dirty when he had to. Keith then decried Nemesis for taking shortcuts, using weapons, chairs, and anything else to get what he wants. Tonight was Good vs Evil, and Good was going to win. A The Animalz defeated Mean Jean Cattley & Steve Flash at 11:45 when Scout distracted MJC, leading to the Big Cat Pounce, a pinfall, and a celebration. A (match) A (celebration) Nemesis countered Sam Keith's claims, pointing out that SK hasn't been an angel all his life. Nemesis said it wasn't about good or evil tonight, it was about two men, and he was the better one. A* Nemesis pinned Sam Keith at 11:36 with the Nemesis Arrow A Cuervo was out first do do a shirt shoot, which got boos, leading to... B Joanne Rodriguez doing it right to close. Invasion: Mid-Atlantic Crowd: 916 Unstable defeated Team R.A.D. at 8:48 when Insane Heat pinned Valiant after the Heatseeker. C- Post match, Valiant and Joey Poison decide that Team R.A.D. isn't rad. "In fact," Joey adds, "We suck." This leads to an amicable breakup and handshake, with Joey vowing that his next team will be his best, Advising his fans to get ready for a double shot of poison. C- Steve Flash def. Marc Speed at 11:49 with the Flash of Brilliance. C Frankie Perez and Cuervo were out on promo duty. Perez acknowledged he was the underdog tonight against Alex Braun, but a time had to come when the new blood rose up to take on the old guard, and as a Latin King -- the best of the new blood -- it was his duty to do it tonight. B- Jimmy Cox, coming out in a full blown ninja outfit, submitted Danny Jacobs at 9:36 with the Okinawa Crab C- Alex Braun came out to rally his fans, telling them Perez was the worst of the worst -- cheating, relying on his manager. Alex vowed to put Frankie in his place tonight. B+ Alex Braun pinned Frankie Perez at 14:27 after Braun Damage C+ Eric Tyler Promo The Gist: Non title? Who cares, the Tri-State Gold and Hell Monkey are both beneath me. B Non Title: Eric Tyler pinned Hell Monkey at 19:54 with the Tyler Driver '06 B+ Mean Jean Cattley debates why Chance Fortune got a title shot. Let's see... everyone knows the huge title match is a week away and Cattley needs to be thrown a softball. Yep. C+ NYCW Empire Title: Mean Jean Cattley pinned Chance Fortune at 11:36 with the Mood Swing. C+ RCIBTY: At fingerboarding. A OVR: C+ Showdown in the Bronx Crowd: 5,733 Tag Debut: The Poison Brothers -- Joey Poison & Jackie Poison (the newly signed Jack Giedroyc -- an actual distant relation to Joey) defeated Darryl "The Dog" Freeman & Lewis Starr at 7:38 when Joey made Starr with the Antidote Web. C+ Tag Debut: Double Down -- Ricky Douglas (Ricky Turner of MAW fame) and Adam Prince (CZCW's Prince Adam) defeated Future Shock at 10:15, when Adam pinned Marc Speed after the Royal Flush (Prince powerbomb combined with a Turner sitdown splash from the top). Prince & Douglas are doing a gambler gimmick, obviously. Rip Chord and Dickie Gellar made a big deal of the newcomers beating the former Tag Champions C Sam Keith & Donnie J beat Robert Oxford & Barry Kingman at 10:25 when Keith made Kingman submit to the Proton Lock. A Champagne Lover was on promo duty, saying that he was not only a better Empire Champion than Haruki Kudo, but was also better looking, and better at, how you Americans say, "making the love." Cuervo, who hasn't mastered the language nearly as well as Champagne, nodded. B+ Haruki Kudo made Champagne Lover submit to the Kudo Lock at 14:37 A Nemesis wants to talk about the "Trash that followed him up from Philly." He rags on Big Cat Brandon for a while, before closing with a simple statement: It's time to take out the trash. A Nemesis defeated Big Cat Brandon at 12:02 after hitting him with a lead pipe. A Mean Jean Cattley was in next to talk about the last five months, how prosperous NYCW's time under Mean Jean has been. Like a politician running for office, MJC promised more of the same after defeating Scout. A NYCW Empire Title: Scout pinned Mean Jean Cattley at 21:59 with Danger Ahead to win his third NYCW Empire Title. Afterward, Scout and Cattley shook hands. A (Match) A (Handshake) After the match, Alex Braun came out to celebrate with Scout, only to brutally attack the new champion when his back was turned, shocking the fans. The attack culminated with a jumping piledriver from the apron to the arena floor, leading to a stretcher job for Scout. A Joanne Rodriguez shot some T-Shirts to try to end on a high note. A* Rip Chord Is Better Than You: At pitching quarters. A Overall: A On the next Invasion: Scout defends against Jimmy Cox, Alex Braun is in action against The Wolverine. With the new champ and the man who brutalized him in the same building, things could get nasty. Also in action: Nevada Nuclear, Champagne Lover, The Poison Brothers, and more! On the next Showdown: Alex Braun has been granted an open mic to start the show, then it's a night of rematches as Nemesis meets Haruki Kudo, while Steve Flash tries to become a two-time Tri-State Champ against Hell Monkey, and Mean Jean Cattley faces Scout in a match with similar "Last Chance" rules: if Cattley doesn't reclaim the title, he doesn't get another shot so long as Scout is champion.

Invasion: New England Crowd: 875 Barry Kingman & Robert Oxford defeated The Poison Brothers at 8:18, when Barry Kingman made Jackie Poison submit to the Kingman Clutch C Eric Tyler gave Danny Jacobs some credit, calling him a solid kid with tons of potential, before going on to say he'd destroyed thousands of solid kids with tons of potential. "Danny, you're just another face in the crowd." Tyler explained. B+ Eric Tyler pinned Danny Jacobs at 11:44 with the Tyler Driver '06 C+ Champagne Lover claimed that Hartford (where we were running tonight) was a cold, cold, place when Winter came around, but The Lover promised to come back in the cold winter months and melt the snow with his flames of sensuality (his words, not mine). Yeah, he also said something about beating Chance Fortune... or something C+ Champagne Lover made Chance Fortune submit to the Champagne Breakfast at 12:21 C Nevada Nuclear seemed more docile than usual to start, saying that he'd studied tapes of Art Reed, and knew his strengths and weaknessess well, possibly better than Reed himself did. More importantly, Nevada claimed he had a secret weapon, then screamed "I'm angry Art! And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry," and proceeded to dump a bucked of green paint all over himself. C+ Nevada Nuclear, doing his best Lou Ferrigno impression, and Art Reed battled to a Double DQ at 12:43 B- The Wolverine was out for the next bout, and put himself through a table, just for kicks. A Alex Braun (w/HUGE heel heat) defeated The Wolverine at 10:15 with Braun Damage. Braun entered and left the ring with a police escort, which Chord and Gellar explained was to keep Scout away from him. B+ Scout promo, where he claims his third Empire Title win was the sweetest of them all, because the fans finally "got it," and understood that although he's not the most pleasant person in the world, he gave them everything he had night in and night out. Then, of course, Alex Braun had to ruin everything, just so he could get his name out there. "Braun, you were able to hide from me tonight, but you can't hide forever," Scout swore. B Empire Title: Scout defeated "The Pride of Japan" Jimmy Cox at 20:19 after Danger Ahead. B- RCIBTY: At determining which one is Pepsi and which one is Coke in a blind taste test A OVR: B- Showdown Wk2 Aug Crowd: 5,778 Alex Braun was out to break his silence. He knew a lot of his fans were disappointed in what he did to Scout, but he wanted them all to know that he did it for them. He couldn't bear the thought of the common man, who goes out and works 12 hours a day to make ends meet, cheering for a low class, mannerless thug like Scout. This was met with boos, of course, but Braun carried on, saying that he knew there would be a backlash, but his true fans, his true believers, would support him -- all the way back to the Empire Title. A Unstable d. The Poison Brothers and Future Shock at 8:36, when Nevada Nuclear pinned Jackie Poison with the Mushroom Cloud. B- Haruki Kudo explained that in Japan, it takes years for young men in the dojos to clean the mats, serve at the feet of the established wrestlers, before they can even think of wrestling. It is to teach them respect and humility, Kudo explained, a lesson he would teach Nemesis tonight. A The Animalz defeated Double Down at 7:52, when Big Cat Brandon pinned Ricky Douglas after the Big Cat Pounce. Even going about 8 minutes, Adam Prince was gassed. C'mon man, skip a few reps in the weight room and run some laps or something. B NYCW Tag Titles: Super Fly (Donnie J & Chance Fortune) defeated The Latin Kings at 12:05, when Cuervo was caught hitting Donnie with a loaded purse for the DQ. B NYCW Tri-State Title: Hell Monkey defeated Steve Flash with the Tumbling Monkey at 15:32 to retain the title. B+ Nemesis laughed off Kudo's vision of respect. This is America, Nemesis explained, respect didn't matter: toughness did. A Nemesis pinned Haruki Kudo with the Nemesis Arrow at 10:05 to get his win back. A Mean Jean Cattley warned us all not to get the wrong idea. Scout was the better man last week, that was why he shook his hand. Tonight, after he got his title back, MJC promised to spit in Scout's face. A Last Chance Match, NYCW Empire Title: Scout pinned Mean Jean Cattley at 19:40 with Danger Ahead. A J-Ro's Shirt shoot, and... A* RCIBTY: At Solitaire A* Overall: A I've been slacking on the news outside of NYCW, but there's just not a lot happening. Squeeky McClean just dethroned Pecs, which gives Squeek his 2nd SWF World Title. Reliable midcarder Freddie Datsun is movin' on up, having dethroned Rich Money for the North American gold. Last month, Groucho Bling dethroned Andre Jones for his fourth Shooting Star title, tying Human Aresnal's record. Also notable: Andre's reign was his second, as he lost the title the first time to NYCW Alum Wolf Hawkins, only to win it back two weeks later. And, in what should be old news to old-school NYCW:T.B.A. readers, The Almighty Dollar are still SWF World Tag Champs, and have defeated The Warriors of the Deep a mere six times in four months. Disappointing. Over in TCW, Troy Tornado is still hanging onto the gold, and has been frequently mixing it up with Rick Law. On the next Invasion: Hell Monkey defends the Tri-State Title against Nevada Nuclear. Mean Jean Cattley and Eric Tyler would face The Animalz, but Big Cat Brandon is busy with commitments for CGC, so The Wolverine has vowed to have a replacement Animal coming to the Mid-Atlantic region. In the main event, Scout defends against one of the most decorated stars in NYCW, former Empire and Tri-State Champion Steve Flash. On the next Showdown: Scout defends the title against Robert Oxford, Sam Keith faces Barry Kingman, and Mean Jean Cattley is slated to go up against Haruki Kudo.

Invasion: Mid-Atlantic Crowd: 970 The Poison Brothers and the team of Darryl Freeman & Lewis Starr battled to a Double Countout at 9:33 D Valiant promo, where he decried Jimmy Cox as a charlatian who tarnished the image of two great nations -- his home of the U.S.A. and the honorable nation of Japan. C- "The Pride of Japan" Jimmy Cox defeated Valiant at 11:52 by submission to the Tokyo Crab C- Nevada Nuclear cut a promo into a mirror, where he tried to hype up his own image. C+ Art Reed pinned The Insane Heat at 15:49 via submission to the Dread Lock C+ The Wolverine was walking around backstage, and ran through a nearby door. B Tri-State Title: Hell Monkey pinned Nevada Nuclear with the Hell Fire Kick at 11:32. C+ Terry Agony hyped up Steve Flash, telling him that losing his belt to Hell Monkey was a blessing in disguise -- it was time to reclaim his Empire Title. C- Mean Jean Cattley & Eric Tyler defeated The Wolverine & Joanne Rodriguez at 10:53, when Tyler made Rodriguez submit to the Tradition Lift B Empire Title: Scout pinned Flash at 15:44 with Danger Ahead B Closing Ceremonies: JRO shot some shirts, RCIBTY: At Sudoku (yes, it's still popular 2 1/2 years in the future) A* A Overall: B- Showdown in the Bronx Week 3, August Crowd: 5.772 Dark Matches Valiant d. C Triangle Match: Future Shock d. The Poison Brothers and Freeman/Speed at 8:38, when Marc Speed pinned Jackie Poison after a Triple Jump Moonsault. C Latin Kings promo, where they laughed at Donnie J and Chance Fortune for thinking they could become as good as the Latin Kings. C+ NYCW Tag Titles: The Latin Kings defeated Super Fly at 12:48, when Cuervo distracted Chance Fortune long enough for a rollup and a pin. C+ Alex Braun cut a promo, acknowledging that "95% of the crowd had deserted him, and that's fine." He went on to say what's popular isn't always right and what's right isn't always popular, so he was ready to do what he had to do against Scout, whether the people liked it or not. B Alex Braun pinned Art Reed at 12:27 with Braun Damage B+ Haruki Kudo beat Mean Jean Cattley by DQ at 14:32, when Cattley KO'ed Kudo with a chair. After the decision, Cattley decked referee Jez McArthur. MJC went on to explain his actions. He can't go after the Empire Title because he lost to Scout, so he'd just go about his business doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, to whomever he wanted to do it to. A* (Match) B (Ref Attack) B+ (Promo) Sam Keith made Barry Kingman submit to the Proton Lock at 13:39. A Scout promo. "Braun thinks I'm too much of a thug to represent the people? He's probably right, but the people chose me, I didn't choose them." Scout went on to add that if Braun wanted a piece of him, he didn't have to go the punk route and attack him after a war with Cattley, all he had to do was ask. A Empire Title: Scout pinned Robert Oxford at 13:40 with Danger Ahead to retain the NYCW Empire Title. Afterward, Alex Braun hit Scout with the belt, then made off with it. B+ (Match) A (Angle) RCIBTY: At reading his mail. Including one piece of mail that brings a huge smile to his face. Showdown in the Bronx Thursday Week 4, August Crowd: 5,389 Dark: The Three Amigos (Dickie Gellar, Joey & Jackie Poison) defeated Alan Parent, Darryl Freeman, & Lewis Starr at 9:26, when Gellar pinned Parent after the Dickie Driver C Valiant's promo time: where he accused John Maverick of attempting to rob the people of the money spent on their tickets by putting them to sleep. C John Maverick made Valiant submit to the Scorpion Deathlock at 8:39 C Nevada Nuclear promo, where N^2 went off on Super Fly, saying he would swat them... yes, swat them and then eat their guts.... Nevada'sssssssssssssss hunnnnnngry!!! B+ Triangle Tag: Robert Oxford & Barry Kingman def. Unstable & Super Fly, when Oxford made The Insane Heat pass out in the OxLock at 13:50 B+ Steve Flash pinned Joanne Rodriguez at 14:52 with a roll-up after Terry Agony interfered. B+ Alex Braun tried to get Mean Jean Cattley to promise him he wouldn't do anything stupid tonight to get them DQ'ed. Cattley responded that he made no promises, and he'd do whatever he wanted out there. A Mean Jean Cattley & Alex Braun defeated Sam Keith & Haruki Kudo at 14:46, when Braun pinned Kudo after a shot with a foreign object. B+ Eric Tyler pinned Big Cat Brandon at 10:37, using the Memphis Cradle (foot on the ropes) A Scout promo, where he said a long time ago, when he was green, he was scared of Nemesis. Big guy, big rep, but he went down hard in the cage, and it'd be the same tonight. A Nemesis beat Scout by Countout, after chasing Alex Braun at 12:40 B+ JRo shot some shirts A* Then it was Rip Chord's turn, and time for a gigantic announcement. Next week, right here in the Bronx, there'd be a special one-hour editon of Showdown. Three matches were set: Hell Monkey defending the Tri-State title against Eric Tyler, a 3-Way between Sam Keith, Haruki Kudo, and Mean Jean Cattley, and a main event featuring Scout and Alex Braun an a much-anticipated Empire Title match. But that wasn't the big news. The big news was that this was the start of something huge, the first edition of NYCW Showdown, broadcast live across America on National Pride TV every Thursday at 10:00 PM. A Overall: B+, which makes the NYCW Slump official, I guess. But the good news is TV is on the way.

I like to keep a low profile backstage. I have a team of advisors -- Keith, Chord, Kudo, Nemesis, and Rich (Dickie) Gellar -- I talk shop with, but I'm not one for socializing. Though I have a reputation of sorts for being a booking genius, "The Savior of NYCW" as I've been called by some, I still think of myself as that fan who parked himself in front of The Stomper's office every day, begging for some work. Sure, I took a wrestling promotion that was on death watch and turned it into the fastest growing company in the wrestling business, I'm very good at my job, but that doesn't change what's inside a person. We've been running in two different buildings in the city lately -- a 5,000 seat basketball arena at local college and a 10,000 seater that houses a minor league hockey team. As long as we sell about 5,400 tickets, we make more money in the bigger building, but we decided to hold Showdown in the smaller venue to show off a packed house. We used the visiting locker room, and I ran things out of the coach's office. I was sitting back there with The Stomper and Chord, going over everything. "Right, we'll start off with you, then bring out Jean, follow up with Tyler, and should build an audience from there." I looked at the clock. 9:00 PM. We were an hour away from a live TV show, it was surreal. I walked out with Rip and Stomper behind me, ready to address the locker room. Actually, I'd stand to the side, Stomper or Keith would give the rah-rah speech. When we walked out of the office, everyone was surrounding the door, clapping as I came out. I turned around, Keith and The Stomper were clapping as well. "Give it up! We wouldn't be here without him," Stomper declared. You really can't put a price on respect from your peers. I learned as much. It was time to go to work. NYCW: Showdown Episode 1 Attendance: 5000 (Sellout) Rip Chord opened the first NYCW Television show standing in the middle of the ring. "If you're on the East coast, you know what you're getting into tonight, if you're somewhere else in these United States, get ready for something special. For the past three years, one company in this country has shown all of us what wrestling should be about. Welcome to New York City Wrestling!" With that, a sellout crowd of 5,000 came unglued, interrupted by Mean Jean Cattley. Cattley explained to the nationwide audience that he was ready to impress the nation, and he'd do it tonight, he'd shock the world by beating two legends in one night: Sam Keith and Haruki Kudo. A In the opening match of NYCW Showdown, Eric Tyler was victorious over Hell Monkey at 9:46 via a DQ, meaning the Monkey kept his Tri-State Title. A Alex Braun came out to harrass the fans for turning his back on them, but invited the new fans to ignore these weak minded East Coasters, and get behind a wrestler they could all be proud of. A Triangle Match: Sam Keith defeated Haruki Kudo and Mean Jean Cattley at 12:37, defeating Kudo by submission to the Proton Lock. A Scout cut a typically good Scout promo, deriding Braun as a pretentious old man who overvalued his own self worth, or maybe he just called him a few names that wouldn't be allowed on a network with stricter standards and practices than National Pride TV. A NYCW Empire Title: Scout pinned Alex Braun by DQ at 12:21 to retain the Empire Title. A Joanne Rodriguez was out last to fire off some T-Shirts as we went off the air. A* Overall: A, and about 22,000 viewers, roughly 1/10 of DAVE's audience on the same network. Tis' an uphill battle. We celebrated our first TV show by heading back to the Bronx the next night, surrounded by a crowd of 5251. Valiant started the show, giving a somewhat generic speech about honor and respect, closing off with saying that Adam Prince represents none of these things. C- Valiant pinned Adam Prince at 4:43 after a Cradle Piledriver C- NYCW Tag Titles - Triangle Ladder Match: The Latin Kings beat The Poison Brothers and Future Shock at 12:36, when Frankie Perez retrieved the titles C The Latin Kings were out next to plug that they were going to be beamed across the airwaves, where they'd immediately be named the sexiest men on television by every media outlet, starting next week when the Kings meet the Animals in six days on NYCW Showdown. C Nemesis promo, where he talks about taking on two people who are a disgrace to his industry: A woman who thinks she's one of the boys and a man running around dressed like a monkey. B In a "Mixed Teams" tag match, Donnie J and The Wolverine defeated Robert Oxford & The Insane Heat at 11:34, when Wolverine pinned Heat after a piledriver. B Joanne Rodriguez retorted Nemesis -- she didn't think she was one of the boys, she definitely was, and one of the toughest boys in the business at that. B+ Nevada Nuclear and Nemesis defeated Joanne Rodriguez and Hell Monkey at 15:09, when Nemesis pinned J-Ro after a Nemesis Arrow. B "The Pride of Japan" Jimmy Cox defeated Chance Fortune by submission to the Kyoto Crab at 13:50 B- Eric Tyler & Mean Jean Cattley beat Art Reed & Scout at 19:36. After the match, Tyler took the mic. Tyler told Scout he'd be busy making a big payday up North (SWF reference) next Thursday, but dared him to put the gold on the line if he still had it in two weeks. A (Match) A (Promo) Overall: B+ News Bits Two well known veterans got their walking papers recently, when BHOTWG parted ways with Everest and SWF cut loose Warlord Pain. Two legends who were quite close, Sam Strong and NYCW's own Rip Chord, are no longer close. The two had been drifting apart since Chord left TCW to form MAW. Both work for NOTBPW, where Chord books, but rarely speak anymore. And me personally? Ricky Turner (Double Down's Ricky Douglas) feels some sense of loyalty to me since I plucked him off of the unemployment line, but Jimmy P didn't like that I prefer my workers to show up on time.
but Jimmy P didn't like that I prefer my workers to show up on time.
Yeah, it's amazing how Jimmy P can moan to me about not being a Main Eventer the same day as he turns up late for a show. Put two and two together, really. NYCW Showdown Episode 2 Attendance: 5,000 (sellout) Nemesis opened the show by taking the mic and calling out anyone. Former tag champ Danny Jacobs took the bait... Rating: A Danny Jacobs vs Nemesis ...and was done in 4 minutes later with the Nemesis Arrow, but at least he got some television exposure, while Nemesis continues to be a monster. The shorter match made Nem's injury (nerve damage in the neck) easier to deal with. Winner: Nemesis Rating: C+ Steve Flash vs Art Reed I really wanted to showcase Steve on TV, and the investment paid off with a good match between two solid veterans. Art's downfall came at 10:02, when he was pinned after the Flash of Brilliance. Again, a good way to introduce the heart and soul of NYCW to a nationwide audience. Winner: Steve Flash Rating: B+ Haruki Kudo explained that he was the man who defeated Scout for the Empire Title the last time -- a history lesson for viewers who aren't up to speed with the NYCW product -- and he would be the man to do it again. Rating: A NYCW Tag Titles: The Animalz (challengers) vs The Latin Kings (champions) The wild, seemingly indestructable babyface tag team against the cowardly, yet deviously cunning heel champions, this is what tag team wrestling is made of, and the fans absolutel ate it up for all 6:17, when Brandon caught Champagne Lover with the Big Cat Pounce to give The Animalz their first NYCW Tag Titles. Winners, and new NYCW Tag Team Champions: The Animalz Rating: A Promo Time: Scout says that, with all due respect to Haruki Kudo, this is his company, and there's no way he's losing his Empire Title. A Empire Title: Haruki Kudo (Challenger) vs Scout (Champion) Excellent match, the fans not even caring that both Scout and Kudo are "good guys" and just enjoying the match. The participants didn't disappoint, as it was incredible action all around until Scout pinned Kudo at 11:40 with Danger Ahead to retain the Empire Title. Winner, and still NYCW Empire Champion: Scout Rating: A* Overall: A As a note, Invasion cards are being streamlined. There's not going to be much huge happening here, aside from the occasional debut, so here it goes. NYCW Invasion: South East 1000 (Sellout) The Three Amigos (Dickie Gellar/The Poison Brothers) defeated Darryl "The Dog" Freeman, Lewis Starr, & Ricky Douglas: D Unstable defeated Valiant & Erik Strong (debuting): D Barry Kingman & Robert Oxford defeated Super Fly: C+ Alex Braun defeated The Wolverine: B+ Non-Title: Mean Jean Cattley and Hell Monkey fought to a double DQ: B Empire Title: Scout beat Steve Flash: B+ Overall: B In other news: The Almighty Dollar have been dethroned as SWF tag champions, losing to the thrown together combination of Skull Debones and Henry Lee. Up next: We go back on the air with NYCW Showdown, which'll see The Latin Kings meet Oxford & Kingman and Super Fly in a triangle match, Steve Flash and Mean Jean Cattley teaming up against Joanne Rodriguez and Haruki Kudo, and a double main event of Sam Keith vs Nemesis vs Alex Braun and Scout defending the Empire Title against Eric Tyler.

NYCW Showdown Crowd: 5000 (Sellout) Triangle Match: The Latin Kings (Champagne Lover & Frankie Perez) vs Robert Oxford & Barry Kingman vs SuperFly (Donnie J. & Chance Fortune) Crisp action here, bolstered by the fact that The Latin Kings are fast becoming popular across the U.S.A -- Perez in particular. Very good, as the Kings and Fortune could play off of Oxford and Kingman's more basic, traditional style, while Donnie J and Champagne Lover brought the aerial highspots. This one came to an end at 7:49, when Perez caught Chance Fortune in the P-Clutch for the submission victory. Winners: The Latin Kings Rating: B Alex Braun came out and said that he was now over being robbed of his chance to be a 2-Time NYCW Empire Champion by poor officiating. We all make mistakes, and Jez McArthur made a huge one when he called for that DQ. Braun promised to win the three way, then make his presence known in the main event scene again. Rating: A Joanne Rodriguez & Haruki Kudo vs Steve Flash & Mean Jean Cattley Former stablemates Flash and MJC meshed well with the Japanese legend and the dominant female of professional wrestling, as all four are magnificent technical wrestlers. Balanced action, with Kudo and JRo both scoring some nearfalls before Cattley ended it at 7:51, putting Rodriguez away with the Mood Swing. Winners: Steve Flash & Mean Jean Cattley Rating: A Nemesis came out to cut a brooding promo, he was mad that Tyler got a shot instead of him, and he was ready to take his frusturations out on Sam Keith and Alex Braun. Rating: A Triangle Match: Alex Braun vs Nemesis vs Sam Keith A bonifide legend, a hardcore legend, and a reliable "steady hand" combined here to put of a pretty good match that meshed brawling with science very well. Nemesis didn't have to do much, given his injury, so that's a good thing. The end came at 6:04, when Sam caught Nemesis with a Brainbuster that put him down for a three count. Winner: Sam Keith Rating: A Scout acknolwedged that NYCW is home to some faces that are familiar from other places. Tyler and Keith from SWF, Nemesis and Fortune from TCW, Kudo the Japanese legend, even he was a DAVE guy, but despite working for his brothers in Philly, who he loved and respected, the truth was that Scout IS New York City Wrestling, and always will be. That, of course, got a pop. Rating: A NYCW Empire Title: Eric Tyler (challenger) vs Scout (Champion) This one wasn't quite as good as one would think, as Tyler and Scout are apparently two great tastes that don't taste great together. Still a very, very good match, but not quite as good as you would think it'd be. The story in this one came with the ending, where Jez McArthur was bumped, allowing Alex Braun to come in and hit Braun Damage. Jez was stirred awake, and three seconds later, at 9:49, we had a new Empire Champion. Winner, and NEW NYCW Empire Champion: Eric Tyler Rating: B+ Joanne Rodriguez shot some shirts as the announcers closed the show cursing Alex Braun. A* Overall: B+ You're only as strong as your main event After the TV cameras stopped rolling, it was time for Rumble in The Bronx, our normal two hour arena show. We let in another crowd, 5,000 strong and did it all over again. 8-Man Tag: The Poison Brothers, Erik Strong, & Dickie Gellar defeated Alan Parent, Greg Richardson, & The Superstarrs (Lewis Starr and his "French cousin" Nathan Starr -- Nathan Black, hired to replace the fired Darryl Freeman) at 7:44, when Joey Poison beat Alan Parent with the Antidote Web. C Terry Agony and Steve Flash were out next. Agony said he was determined to bring in the best talent, and he'd found someone who'd be perfect to join up with Steve Flash and go after the Animalz and their World Tag Team Titles: Japan's Own Jimmy Cox! Agony then announced his new team's name... B- Flash 'N Cox (Steve Flash & Jimmy Cox) defeated Future Shock (Marc Speed & Danny Jacobs) at 14:09, when Cox made Speed submit to the Osaka Crab. B- The Latin Kings declared the win by The Animalz last week a minor setback on their quest to become television's most famous duo since Starsky and Hutch, they declared that soon enough, they'd be the Five Time NYCW Tag Team Champions. B- The Latin Kings vs Art Reed & Donnie J. ended in a Double Countout at 10:06 B Nevada Nuclear cut a promo on The Animalz, talking about having the titles again. It's been so long since we've had the titles... The Insane Heat contributed by ramming his head into a door. A NYCW Tag Titles: The Animalz defeated Unstable at 10:03, when Big Cat Brandon pinned The Insane Heat after the Big Cat Pounce. A A Sam Keith beat Mean Jean Cattley by DQ at 20:24. The DQ didn't stop MJC, who pummeled Keith with a chair afterward. A (Match) A (Attack) Alex Braun & Eric Tyler battled to a Double DQ with Scout & Haruki Kudo at 14:40 The brawl continued well after the match, closing the show by taking the fight to the back. A* (Match) B+ (Brawl) Overall: A We closed the week with another Invasion of the South East, Here's what the crowd of 1,773 (an Invasion record) saw. Donnie J beat Alan Parent: C- Future Shock d. Double Down d. The Poison Brothers: D Terry Agony unveiled his newest client. Showdown in the Bronx Episode 4 Crowd: 6,712 NYCW Tri-State Title: Champagne Lover (Challenger) vs Hell Monkey (Champion) A battle between the over, well known, talented champion and the not quite as over, equally (perhaps more) talented challenger was an entertaining affair, as these two mixed up a winning combination of stiff strikes and breathtaking aerial action. The end came with a Hellfire Kick at 10:38, earning a title retention for Hell Monkey. Winner, and still NYCW Tri-State Champion: Hell Monkey Rating: A Nevada Nuclear was out for his first TV promo. N-2 didn't dissappoint, as he sung some folk music for no apparent reason before laying down a challenge to the former Empire champion: Scout. Rating: B Scout and Haruki Kudo took the mic next Scout said he wasn't even going to address Nevada, because tonight he had something more important to deal with. Tonight he had a golden opportunity, a chance to take out his two biggest enemies in one night. Kudo added that Braun and Tyler had proven they were without honor, and they needed to learn an important lesson. B+ NYCW Empire Champion Eric Tyler & Alex Braun vs Scout & Haruki Kudo These four absolutely tore the house down on Rumble in the Bronx last week, and the rematch definitely did not disappoint. Huge crowd heat for the segments where Scout was exacting some revenge on the two men who cost him his title, but the real surprise came with the ending, when Haruki Kudo scored the winning pin, taking out the Empire Champ with a Kudo Kutter at 10:42. Winners: Scout & Kudo Rating:A* Mean Jean Cattley talked about how this is the biggest match of his career -- bigger than beating Haruki Kudo on his way to becoming the greatest Empire Champion of all time, because tonight a nationwide audience was ready to see the arrival of the next big star in the wrestling business: Mean Jean Cattley. B+ Mean Jean Cattley vs Sam Keith Mean Jean Cattley doesn't have the intangibles you're looking for in a big star -- he's not the best looking guy, he doesn't appear to have "it," he'd be lucky to reach mid-card status in TCW or SWF, but he is consistently one of the best workers in America, and tonight was no different. This match was all about showing the rest of the U.S. that Mean Jean Cattley wasn't just a good wrestler: he was a star, pinning the legendary Keith at 11:55 with the Mood Swing. Winner: Mean Jean Cattley Rating: A* Rip Chord is Better Than You: At building stuff with Erector Sets. A* Overall: A* Then it was time for Rumble in the Bronx, the weekly arena show that has made NYCW famous. Dark Match: Joey Poison & Dickie Gellar beat The Superstarrs: C+ Everest squashed Jackie Poison at 4:47 with the Mountain Mover. Rating: C- Joanne Rodriguez beat John Maverick at 10:01 with the J-Rocker Rating: B Frankie Perez promo, where he announced that the return to glory of The Latin Kings was coming sooner than anyone expected. He'd been informed that there would be a ladder match next week on NYCW Showdown, where a contract for a title shot would be hanging overhead, ready to be claimed by the Kings or Future Shock, and we all know who'd get it. Rating: B Art Reed beat Frankie Perez by DQ at 13:55 Rating: B+ Triangle Match: Flash 'N Cox beat Future Shock and Double Down at 8:58, when Steve Flash pinned Ricky Douglas after the Flash of Brilliance. NYCW Showdown Episode 5 - Live from New York City and across the U.S. (sans Puerto Rico) on National Pride TV Crowd: 7,220 Ladder Match For A Title Shot: Latin Kings vs Future Shock The top two regular tag teams in the promotion faced off tonight for a chance at gold. The Ladder played into their hands well, particularly Champagne and Jacobs, both talented high fliers. The Kings, our flagship tag team, took the title shot with a big win here, seeing a big ladder bump from Marc Speed translate into a Champagne Lover retrieval at 9:23. Winners: The Latin Kings Rating: B Scout took the mic to address a few different topics. He knew he wanted to get at Eric Tyler, to take a shot at becoming the 4-Time Empire Champion, but that could wait for a little bit. It could wait because there were some other people Scout had to go after, first among them Alex Braun, telling the world in no uncertain terms. "Braun, you and me, next week..." 'In A Cage!" Rating: B+ Scout vs Nemesis Nemesis took control early, overpowering Scout and pummeling him with strikes, Scout fought back with some of his technical wizardry, but this wouldn't be the old matchup of Technique vs Power, it would be decided by the most unlikely of parties, as Nevada Nuclear ran in to cost Scout the match, grabbing his leg long enough for Nemesis to reverse a vertical suplex attempt into a Nemesis arrow for the win at 6:47. Winner: Nemesis Rating: B Nevada Nuclear took the mic, and wasn't pleased. "Don't ignore us Scout!!! We hate to be ignored!!! You willl know ussss, you will fear usss..." weird, but it worked. Rating: A NYCW Empire Title: Haruki Kudo (Challenger) vs Eric Tyler (Champion) One man is known for his traditional wrestling skills, for going in there and working just as well as the all time greats did in their prime. The other is an all time great, one of the biggest stars in the history of Japanese Wrestling. Of course this was a classic, with Tyler playing the old school heel to perfection -- taking shortcuts and selling the hell out of Kudo's stiff strikes and neck breaking suplexes. This one was a TV time limit draw, with announcer Dickie Geller apologizing to the viewers that this match would have to be declared a draw. Winner: Draw Rating: A* Once the TV lights went down, it was time to make some money. Rumble in the Bronx was on. Four Way Dance: Joanne Rodriguez beat Alan Parent, Dickie Gellar, and Joey Poison at 8:22, pinning Parent after the J-Rocker. B Nevada Nuclear rambled on about Scout, how Scout will notice him now... yes, yes he will. B Nevada Nuclear defeated Arnold Jarrett at 4:38 with the Mushroom Cloud C+ 6-Man Tag: Future Shock & Art Reed beat The Superstarrs & John Maverick at 9:54, when Danny Jacobs pinned Lewis Starr with the Prodigizer C Super Fly pinned Double Down at 8:39, when Donnie J pinned Ricky Douglas after Death on Miami Beach. C- Terry Agony stood next to Everest, who dwarfed his manager, and built the big man up. "Agony Inc. has a bulldozer," Terry explained, "And his name is Everest." C+ NYCW Tri-State Title: Hell Monkey beat Everest at 13:08 via Countout B NYCW Tag Titles: The Animalz beat Flash N' Cox by disqualification at 12:18 when Terry Agony interfered. Agony got pounced for his trouble and The Animalz celebrated. B+ (match) A (celebration) Sam Keith was next on promo duty. The legendary veteran had a little something left in him, or so he said, and he vowed he wouldn't let Mean Jean Cattley throw another one by him. B+ Sam Keith made Mean Jean Cattley submit to the Proton Lock at 19:53 A Closing Ceremonies: JRo shot some shirts, RCIBTY: At stacking paper cups. A* Overall: A This week's Showdown viewership was 25,391, as we're slowly but surely building an audience. Several new stars are being groomed as well, which is of the utmost importance, given the age of some of our main eventers. And to close the week... Southeast Invasion: 2,000 (sellout) Triangle Match: Joanne Rodriguez beat Alan Parent and Ricky Douglas: C- Alex Braun pinned Arnold Jarrett: C+ Triangle Tag: The Latin Kings beat The Poison Brothers and The Superstarrs: C- Barry Kingman & Robert Oxford beat Future Shock: C+ Unstable beat Super Fly (Chance Fortune & Donnie J): C- Tri State Title: Hell Monkey beat Steve Flash: B Nemesis pinned The Wolverine: B Overall: B- Coming up: An update on the rest of the wrestling world, and Showdown goes up against the SWF PPV, meaning no Tyler or Keith, but you will get Scout and Braun in a cage.

Rating: A Mean Jean Cattley vs Joanne Rodriguez Dirty little secret about Joanne Rodriguez, she's one hell of a technical wrestler. So is Cattley, you do the math. Showdown in the Bronx - Episode 7 Week 3, October Live from New York City, and across the U.S. on National Pride TV Crowd: 6,840 Frankie Perez was out to start the show. He brought down Rip Chord, the NYCW Commissioner, and explained to him that Cuervo discovered the language of the contracts (which, unless it was in Spanish, Cuervo probably didn't understand, she still can't speak a lick of English) stated that the contract was good for a title shot, but not necessarily a Tag Team Title shot. Champagne Lover wasn't here tonight, but Frankie was going to use his share of the contract to buy into the scheduled Hell Monkey-Robert Oxford triangle match. "But Eric," Sam warned, "I am too, brother, and this old journeyman still has some magic left in him." Week 4, October 2006 Poor AAA. They've had a revolving door of bookers, though Bobby Thomas seems settled in there now, and have had a talent raid bigger than any company this side of DAVE, having lost big stars like Wanda Fish (SWF) and Catherine Quine (TCW) over the years. Recently, AAA champion Helen Wheels was the last to go, the third Femme Fatale champion in three years to leave with the belt when she took a full time position at NOTBPW. Black Widow claimed the title this time around, beating Suzue Katayama to win the belt. If I were there, I'd let it ride on Joanne Rodriguez, who is a reliable middle of the pack worker in NYCW, but would be a sure bet as the franchise of any women's orginization. In another news item, the recently fired Darryl "Dog Fyte" Freeman, currently unemployed, was apparently applying for a side job and tested positive for anabolic steroids. Cut him loose at the right time, I guess. Oh well, onto the show. NYCW Showdown: Episode 8 (eight episodes, already?) Live From New York City, and across the U.S. on National Pride TV Crowd: 6647 Terry Agony started off backstage, hyping up his men, who had gold sequined jackets to go with their gold tights. Cox, still thinking he was born and raised in Japan, had a white headband with a red circle tied around his head. "Look at you guys," Agony started, "You were treading water, lost in the shuffle, over and done with, washed up..." This went on for some time. "Riding the express train to Unemploymentville, ready to be put out to pasture..." And a little while more. "You were just about done, but you let me guide you, and now you're on top of the world, the top tag team in wrestling. Good job boys, let's show these Animalz who their masters are." Rating: B NYCW Tag Team Titles: The Animalz (Challengers) vs Flash N' Cox (Champions) A rematch of the upset from last week's show, and the sequel was just as good as the original. This one finished up at 8:41, when the mountainous Everest hit the ring while Terry Agony distracted the referee. Everest steamrolled Big Cat Brandon, Steve Flash made the cover, and Terry Agony's boys scored another upset victory to keep the belts. Winners, and still NYCW Tag Team Champions: Flash N' Cox Rating: A 6-Man Tag: Scout & Future Shock vs Nevada Nuclear & The Latin Kings Scout spent most of the match trying to get at Nevada Nuclear, who, despite his repeated challenges, kept away from the 3-Time Empire Champion as much as humanly possible. Good match all around, ending at 10:25, when Marc Speed got caught, and had to give in to the P-Clutch. Winners: Nevada Nuclear, Frankie Perez, & Champagne Lover Rating: B The Modern Day Legend himself, Mean Jean Cattley, was out to crow that everyone will acknowledge his legendary status when he singlehandedly beats Haruki Kudo and Sam Keith tonight. MJC's tune changed quick when Eric Tyler came out, as he barked "Let's go get 'em champ! No 'I' in Team y'know." Rating: A Haruki Kudo & Sam Keith vs Mean Jean Cattley & NYCW Empire Champion Eric Tyler These four, along with Scout and Steve Flash, compose the six workers that NYCW can rely on the most -- with both Latin Kings rapidly closing in as well, and several others close behind. If these four are involved, expect to see that light blue A with an asterisk next to it. No different here, as Eric Tyler continued to be baffled by Haruki Kudo, falling to the Japanese Legend's Kudo Kutter again at 13:47. Winners: Sam Keith & Haruki Kudo Rating: A* Rip Chord is Better Than You: At Duck Hunt. He never misses, and even if he does, that dog is too scared to laugh at Rip Chord. Overall: A* After our audience on National Pride TV left, we still had a Rumble left in us. Latin Kings promo, where Frankie gloated about how the Kings outsmarted the NYCW lawyers and took Hell Monkey's title. Tonight, they'd embarrass NYCW a little more when Champagne won a four-way and Perez took in another successful title shot. B Haruki Kudo pinned Alan Parent at 5:11 after a Kudo Kutter. Good for Parent, who got to work with his idol. B- The Animalz defeated John Maverick & Adam Prince at 4:35, when Prince got Pounced B Tri-State Title: Frankie Perez made Danny Jacobs submit to the P-Clutch at 13:26 Good for what it was, but NYCW has some old school fans, and they didn't like the selling here (or lack thereof). B Nevada Nuclear promo, where he gloats about beating Scout earlier tonight, which would be all well and good, if he actually would've beaten Scout, or not run like a little girl whenever he came into the ring. B Triangle: Oxford & Kingman beat Hell Monkey & Marc Speed & Super Fly at 11:22, when Speed tapped to the OxLock. C+ 4-Way Dance: Scout beat Champagne Lover, Art Reed, & Joanne Rodriguez at 12:01, pinning Champagne after Danger Ahead A Mean Jean Cattley talked about how legends don't just win titles once. When they lose, they get back on the horse and do it again. MJC asked that all the fans remember that in a little bit, when he's the 2-time Empire Champion. A Sam Keith beat Steve Flash by DQ at 12:41, when Flash got caught with brass knuckles. A* Eric Tyler promo: E.T. went off on Cattley, saying everything Cattley claims to be, everything he wants to be but isn't yet: Is what Eric Tyler is right now. Not a future star, not a washed-up relic, but the best in the business today. Interesting, considering Tyler is actually a year old than Sam Keith, but he didn't dare say that. A Empire Title: Eric Tyler defeated Mean Jean Cattley at 15:14 to retain the NYCW Empire Title, with interference from Sam Keith, who seemed to hate Cattley a little more than Tyler. A* Overall: A The viewership for Showdown? 39,248, as we've nearly doubled our original audience. And the invasion of the Southeast is in a Cease Fire. Why? Mission Accomplished. New York City Wrestling has gained a cult following. For so many years it was the little promotion that couldn't, that dump in DAVE's shadow on the verge of bankruptcy. Now we're a profitable company, a legit number four in the United States, and with the success of NYCW Showdown, not too far away from being able to compete with the likes of DAVE, TCW, and even the 800 pound gorilla in New England. So look out Vibert, Cornell, Stone, and even Eisen... The little promotion that couldn't is coming, it's coming quicker than you think. Next week: For all but two weeks a year, we are graced with Rip Chord's presence. This is one of the other two weeks. Rip's in Canada, but we'll get by without him and Eric Tyler, who also works for NOTBPW, with Sam Keith vs Alex Braun and a rematch of Kings of New York III's main event when Haruki Kudo meets Mean Jean Cattley. On Rumble in the Bronx, we'll see Scout and Braun revive their rivalry with a first blood match.
