Wrestling News From Around The World With PWI Weekly

WWWF: The new ownership group has completed their first month running the WWWF and fans have been less than thrilled... However majr changes may be in store sooner, rather than later with te influx of talent... Paul Orndorff has arrived from GCW, Rick Martel has joined from the Canada, Ricky STeamboat has arrived from MACW...New Managers Jimmy Hart and Johnny Valiant have also signed and look for more talent to arrive as early as next weeks card in Philadelphia...Black Jack Mulligan is one we are sure to see, as well as a few others... The WWWF has been disapointed about thier attendance with a few events, but it is also the time of year and they really believe things will build up for a big fall season... There has also been some discusison revamping the TV format of TNT, but we have no details as of press time.

MACW & GCW: A major blow to both organizations as WTBS has finally cancelled both programs on The Superstation... It will be an interesting next onth or so to see how the respond without Television...

AWA: Continues to be one of the hottest wrestling organizations going... Nick Bockwinkle followed up a big title defense with Baron Von Rascke with a defense against Hulk Hogan which probably tops the previous match as the best match of the year.

Maple Leaf Wrestling: Koko B. Ware and Bad News Brown have recently signed contracts with the Ontario based organization, which recently turned down The WWWF offer to become a developmental wrestling affiliate.

HCW (Houston Championship Wrestling): Continues to bring in great talent... Road Warrior Hawk, Len Denton and Scott Irwin all signed this week... Buzz Sawyer and Dick Slater recently reformed a tag team and had a great match in the debut show against Manny Fernandez and Gino Hernandez

We wish a speedy recovery for The Missing Link who is currently hospitalized after an apparent overdose.

Steve Travis vs Tiger Chung Lee

This will be my upset of the evening. I'm just not a Tiger fan.

SD "Special Delivery" Jones vs "The Unpredictable Johnny Rodz

SD's a big deal in Philly. Johnny Rodz? Not so much.

Tony Garea vs Greg "The Hammer" Valentine

A debut against Tony Garea? That's almost too easy.

Pedro Morales vs "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe

Morales picks one up on the youngin'.

"Iron" Mike Sharpe vs Rick Martel

Iron Mike isn't on home turf, so he doesn't get the W. Martel goes strong, into his match with Orndorff.

"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff vs Eddie Gilbert

Orndorff will stay undefeated until at least his first World title match. I'm banking on it.

Intercontinental Title Match

"The Magnificent" Muraco vs Tito Santana

Muraco just got a victory over Backlund. He's way too hot right now to drop the title.

Boot Camp Match

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs Sgt. Slaughter

I'm thinking the numbers game plays another part here. Slaughter is someone that can contend for Backlund's title, very soon. Snuka is a great gatekeeper, but that's about as far as he's likely to go.

Steel Cage Match

Andre The Giant vs "Big" John Studd

Andre's undefeated record is far too important to drop here. It's going to be HUGE, when it happens.

Love the mod Oldschool keep up the great work!

Is it sad that I miss Iron Mike Sharp? I remember when the WWF used to come to the Providence Civic Center and he would be on every card and he would get his but kicked everytime.

Quick question is the Duke of Dorchester in this mod?

Nevermind, I forgot that his name is Pete Doherty and it looks like you did sign him. That is awsome!

"Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe vs Pedro Morales

Much of the crowd didn't return following the big matches earlier...However Morales did get a nice ovation from the ones tha did... These two went through the wrestling hold, counter hold rouine... And Pedro was quite impressive as he focussed on wrestling as opposed to just getting fired up and fists a flying... I think you managed to capture every single Iron Mike Sharpe match I ever saw! Keep up the good work on this. You have a really good handle on the spirit of this time period!

Lol yeah,I think the only thing missing was a "Wi-imp!Wi-imp!Wi-imp!" chant from the crowd.:)

I really really understood why he got that chant,I understood "Paula" for Orndorff and "Greaseball" for Bret, but somewhere along the line I missed the bus on why Sharpe got the "Wimp" chant;all I can say boy did he really get mad at the crowd.....come to think of it he was one of the few "permanently underneath" guys I can ever remember getting interview time too.

Spectacular show, as per usual, Oldschool. I think it's safe to say that Andre has finished up with Studd, after that convincing victory.

I was surprised by your match order. I thought that you'd close out the show with any one of the three matches that came before the intermission. Not a complaint, mind you. I was just surprised.

The return match for Muraco and Backlund should be molten hot, after this match tonight. It also looks like Slaughter & Snuka have another big match in them. Slaughter just won his specialty, so i think it's time to find one in Snuka's favour. I'm not familiar enough his work to know what that would be, but I do know that it'll be another great match.

This has been a lot of fun, and the feel of this entire diary is fantastic. Cheers, man.

Yeah I thought I kind of messed up the order, as I only had 3 big matches on this show... Back in the day WWWF did have main events in middle of the show... I know they used to finish alot of their shows with tag matches... Still trying to work out the little nuances with this.. Probably should have finished with the cage match

Muraco/Backlund will continue this weekend in The Boston Garden with Muraco/Fuji vs Backlund/Gilbert and then rematch at MSG... Slaughter/Snuka in a cage also signed for MSG May show

but somewhere along the line I missed the bus on why Sharpe got the "Wimp" chant;all I can say boy did he really get mad at the crowd

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that he lost so much and so the fans thought of him as a "Wimp".

Well even though I am not taking part in the predictions I have to make this one:

Rick Martel vs"The Duke of Dochester" Pete Doherty

I know good old Pete is not going to win but one can dream right?:D

"Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe vs George Wells

The Pretty Boy has pretty much done job duty so far, and I don't really see that ending.

Rick Martel vs "The Duke of Dochester" Pete Doherty

I can't see Martel's streak ending yet.

"The Soul Patrol" Rocky Johnson & Tony Atlas vs "Quickdraw" Rick McGraw & David Sammartino

Even though I was a fan of McGraw's, Johnson and Atlas are having heat, and everything else.. I can't see Soul Patrol losing to McGraw & Sammartino.

BlackJack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

I just like Graham better.

WWWF Tag Team Title Match: Challengers "The Moondogs" Rex & Spot vs Champions "The Samoans" Afa & Sika

Probably one of the best tag teams in WWE history.. period.

Greg "the Hammer" Valentine vs Tito Santana

Break his leg, Hammer!

Andre The Giant & Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Big" John Studd & Sgt. Slaughter

They got to isolate Snuka and the match will be theirs.

"The Magnificent" Muraco & Mr. Fuji vs Bob Backlund & Eddie Gilbert

Muraco and Fuji are a great combo..

"Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe vs George Wells

I'm Canadian, and therefore a sucker for CFL players. Sorry, Pretty Boy.

Rick Martel vs "The Duke of Dochester" Pete Doherty

The future Model is hot Hot HOT!

"The Soul Patrol" Rocky Johnson & Tony Atlas vs "Quickdraw" Rick McGraw & David Sammartino

They've been on a slide lately, but you don't have many top teams. Soul Patrol are about to get on a roll. (Yes, I'm proud of that)

BlackJack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

This is the most open match on the card, in my books. Honestly, I'm just going with Graham because I've picked mostly babyfaces. Gotta even it out somewhere.

WWWF Tag Team Title Match: Challengers "The Moondogs" Rex & Spot vs

Champions "The Samoans" Afa & Sika

This has Double DQ written all over it. I'd hate to be reffing this one.

Greg "the Hammer" Valentine vs Tito Santana

In my 1991 game, this match would easily go the other way, but The Hammer is someone who can climb to the top, whereas Santana is someone that will only ever make it to the upper midcard.

Andre The Giant & Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Big" John Studd & Sgt. Slaughter

Both Studd and Snuka just took the fall, in their matches. One of them grabs the momentum back, and with Andre having finished with Studd, but Snuka having a cage match next week, Snuka needs the win more. Besides, who in their right mind would vote against Andre the Giant?

"The Magnificent" Muraco & Mr. Fuji vs Bob Backlund & Eddie Gilbert

Send the fans home happy, boys.
