<p>DUDE!! I love the PWI rankings that you do. It brings back memories of running to the B&C (actually rode my bike to that little neighborhood convenience store) to pick up the latest issue...and I always turned to that back page first to see who was ranked. Always used to bother me if "some champion of the Northeast" that I never heard of was #1 in the poll ahead of the beloved NWA World Champ of the day. :-)</p><p> </p><p>

I'm thinking these days instead of focusing on some of my old favorite areas (like GCW or MAC), I'm going to have to pay more attention to what is going on in your MidSouth area. Hmmmm, Kamala is the new champ. hmmmm. and Reed, the TV champ, is nationally ranked but the North American champ is not - but that makes some sense too in the grand scheme of things. Reading that Dick Murdoch is leaving when his contract expires has me worried - say it isn't so Dickie!!!!</p><p>

This is a great source of information</p>

Yeah it may not make sense, but Butch Reed has been one of the hardest woking champions in my DOTT world... He has more than 3x's the title defenses of Kamala and more than any other current champion I believe...that's why I ranked him 8

EVENT CENTER w/ Billy Red Lyons: (Lyons) We've talked about Madison Square Garden this Saturday, but we still have a main event tonight as Greg Valentine takes on Tony Atlas... (Valentine) Can you just be quiet for a minute please... I have something to say, and that is I am sick and tired of the commisionership powers to be here in the WWWF stacking the deck against myself... First its Sammartino and just because I ended the career of his talentless kid, he gets in my business... This Saturday we have a match at Madison Square Garden and they force me to wrestle that big meathead Tony Atlas tonight, when I should be mentally preparing and gameplanning myself for that fossil Bruno Sammartino... Its a conspiracy I tell you, The WWWF is afraid of what Greg Valentine might do and there doing everything in their power to hold me back, well tonight Tony Atlas you are going to be a bump in the long road of greatness of Greg Valentine... Tito Santana, Pedro Morales & The Tonga Kid beat "Iron" Mike Sharpe, The Spoiler & Rene Goulet

Okerlund makes notice how it is rather interesting to see The Spoiler in tag team action and without his manager Johnny Valiant by his side..Both The Spoiler and Goulet seemed a little miffed at Mike Sharpe when he insisted the ring announcer call him Canada's greatest athlete... Morales has flying headlocks for Goulet... Santana tags in and has armdrags for Sharpe... The Tonga Kid tags in and has chops for The Spoiler, until the Spoiler lowers the boom on the teeenager and takes over with a shoulderbreaker, then walks he ropes and crashes down with a big forearm across the arm of The Tonga Kid... Sharpe tags in and blasts away with forearms across the back... Goulet comes in and wheres him down with a claw... Tonga makes a hot tag to Tito who blasts away at all 3 men as they enter the ring.. Refere Dick Weurhle finally catches it and puts the interlocking hands of Sharpe & Goulet... Pedro hiptosses out and tags in Tonga Kid, who climbs to the top rope and crashes down with a chop... Tonga dropkicks all three men... But is caught with a slam by Sharpe... Goulet tags in and grabs a headlock, Tonga sends him off to the ropes and then follows ducking Goulet as he bounces back and tagging Tito who springs in and hits a flying forearm for the quick 1..2...3... Monsoon states, "That'll cost him 5 grand." Hanson after being pushed, pushes Valentine back and Atlas catches him with a quick roll up for the 1..2...7/8th.... Valentine rakes the eyes and slams Atlas and tries to aplly figure four again, but Atlas rolls him up into a small package for anothe r2 7/8th count... Pat Patterson comes to ringside to congratulate the ex-commisioner and t make a special announcement... Pattrson states, "First off, We'd ike to wish Swede Hanson a quick recovery as Swede will be going under the knife after tearing tendons in his knee after Valentine attacked him applying the figure four... Valentine will not be suspended because Swede did act first , making the initial physical contact after Valentine's bout on TNT against Tony Atlas, but This Saturday Night another special enforcement referee has been assigned to the Bruno Sammartino vs Greg Valentine matchup and that is ME! Pat Patterson will be calling the action inside the squared circle.." RATED: C+

Tiger Chung Lee beat Terry Daniels 7:15

Daniels began the offense with a variety of arm drags but Chung Lee would takeover with a thrust to the throat... Chung Lee displayed his martial arts ability with several karate chops and a thrust kick which laid out Daniels... Chung Lee for the 1...2...3.... RATED: E

At the conclusion of the match...Chung Lee kept stomping away at Terry Daniels and Fred Blassie came out to ringside and stated, "Tere's the fire, there's the spark... Thats the Tiger Cung Lee I know right there and the one last week who woudn't put up with mediocrity of Paul Christy... Are you ready to rejoin The Blassie Army?" Chung Lee bows to Blassie and the two walk to the back together... RATED: E+

The Spoiler beat Aldo Marino 6:31

Graham mentions how the Spoiler has been managed by Johnny Valiant in the past, but we haven't seen Johnny in recent weeks...The Spoiler methodically pounds away with closed fists to the chest, the kidney's and the neck region... Marino lands a couple of dropkicks but The Spoiler tosses him aside and walks the ropes to the middle of the ring and leaps of with a clubbing forearm smash to the neck and puts Marino down for the 1..2...3... EVENT CENTER w/ Gene Okerlund: (Okerlund) Alright wrestling fans the buzz around New York City is TONIGHT at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN.... Bob Backlund defends against The Masked Superstar, The Magnificent Muraco defends against Ricky Steamboat... The Samoans defend against Rick Martel & Dino Bravo... Sammartino vs Valentine... Blackjack Mulligan vs Billy Graham and this man TITO SANTANA takes on the ever so dangerous Spoiler... (Santana) "You know Gene, there are alot of stars in the world of professional wrestling and one man who has gained the respect of many throughout the world is The Spoiler, a true professional, with size, strength, power, technical ability, balance and deceptiveness... Well as much as I'd like to be wrestling for one of those titles tonight, if I cantbe doing that then I'd truly want to test my self against some of the best in the world... That is why I'm here in the WWWF to take on the best and tonight Spoiler get ready for a fight, because Tito Santana is always ready to give 100% in the ring... Aribba!!!!" RATED: D

Steele tore the turnbuckle apart and Masked Superstar slammed Frankie Williams head into it... Steele tagged in and bit Frankie's arms and slammed his head into Slaughter's boots... Slaughter would not tag in, so Superstar did instead... pummeling Frankie with repeated double ax handles before finishing him off with a backbreaker and the 1..2..3... RATED: D-

As the threesome celebrated in the ring with Blassie and Chung Lee, Sgt. Slaughter refused Chung Lee's hand and instead began beradding the newest member of Blassie's army as Freddie tried to cool the Sarge Down... RATED: D-

EVENT CENTER w/ Gene Okerlund (Okerlund) Alright fans 3 big title matches tonight in Madison Square Garden, one of which for the Intercontinental title as The Magnificent Muraco is challenged by this man Ricky Steamboat.. (Steamboat) You know Gene, many people have asked me WHY Ricky would you choose to go after Don Muraco instead of Bob Backlund and the world title or team with Jimmy Snuka and go after the Tag Team Titles and that word Gene is HONOR.... Bob Backlund defends his world title with honor, Rick Martel & Dino Bravo have earned their cage match title shot aganst the Samoan's by wrestling with HONOR... But, Magnificent Muraco and Mr. Fuji there is nothing honorable about the way you go about your business, picking and choosing when you want to defend your title and your actions in the ring, some might say are DISHONORABLE... That is why I'm challenging you Muraco and that is to bring HONOR to the Intercontinental title and to teach you a lesson about something you know nothing about... RATED: C-

Eddie Gilbert beat Rocky Johnson 11:21

Johnson taunted Gilbert early in the match... by joking around and doing his Muhammed Ali impersonation... Johnson would lockup with Gilbert and back him into a corner and instead of hitting him, Johnson just lifted Gilbert up and sat him on the top turnbuckle and pinched his cheek...Then shuffled his feet and airboxed to the fans dismay...Johnson hit a hiptoss and a dropkick then showboated some more... The next lock up Johnson went for a right, but Eddie blocked and fought back with rights of his own... Gilbert hit a hiptoss and slam and got a two count... Johnson caught Eddie with a drop toe-hold out of no-where and Johnson dropped some elbows to weaken Eddie... Johnson whipped Gilbert into the ropes and hit a power slam for a 1..2.. But then Rocky lifted Eddie up and told the crowd that he wasn't finished with him yet... A bodyslam and a knee drop by Johnson and he did the same thing again... and what an big upset win for Eddie Gilbert!!

looking forward to the MSG card

yeah, hard to believe ol' Swede was a member of some very good(and very tough) tag teams only 10 years prior.

He's doing the right thing though, retirement is coming soon so he's putting over the young guys.

This Saturday Night!!

Spike Huber & Eddie Gilbert vs "The Moondogs" Rex & Spot

Bob Backlund's new group of students/protege's take on the diabolical duo of The Moondogs, perhaps the most unorthodox team in the WWWF

Brian Blair vs Sgt. Slaughter w/ "Classy" Freddie Blassie

The Sarge came up short 2 weeks ago in Philadelphia for the world title, will he be able to bounce back against the world champions understudy Brian Blair who has impressed as of late.

Tito Santana vs The Spoiler

This match is certain to have implications on he WWWF rankings as Tito Santana looks to bounce back from his Intercontinental defeat against Muraco versus the cagy veteran; The Spoiler who looks to make his mark amongst the WWWF elite.

Texas Bullrope match

Blackjack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

These two will have their rivalry spill over from the Boston Gardens into Madison Square Garden where both men have made a name for themselves... It is a Texas Bullrope match, where one man will have to render his opponenet incapicitated to the point where he can touch all four corners... A win could elevate one of the veterans for a last hurrah, while a loss will put the other a step closer to retirement.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

The Superfly has been slowed down by the Heenan Family after a short hiatus and looks t get back on the winning ways as does Mr. Wonderful who has been pinned by Ricky Steamboat in his last two high profile matches (one singles and one tag match)

Return Match Fom Last Month

Bruno Sammartino vs Greg "The Hammer" Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart

This is a return match from last month at Madison Square Garden in which Bruno pinned The Hammer despite Valentine dominating most of the match... Bruno is now in better wrestling shape upon his return to the ring and Valentine will now have to contend with commisioner Pat Patterson as a special referee...

Intercontinental Title Match

Challenger: Ricky Steamboat vs Champion: The Manifient Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji

Last month at the Garden Steamboat won the right to fight for a title this month at the garden by beating Paul Orndorff... He chose to take on The Magnificent Muraco who is coming off a big title defense against Tito Santana 2 weeks ago in Philadelphia and nw refocusing his efforts on his Intercontinental title reign after a series of challenges against Bob Backlund

Inside a STEEL CAGE

WWWF Tag Team Title Match

Challengers: "The French Connection" Rick Martel & Dino Bravo vs Champions: "The Wild Samoans" Afa & Sika w/ Lou Albano

he French Connection are coming off a clean sweep of The Samoans on TNT a week back including Andre pinning Saula... Now the odds are stacked up against the champions as "King" Curtis Iaukea and Samula are barred from ringside and Lou Albano will be handcuffed to Andre The Giant as the most dominating tag team in the world today Afa & Sika look to keep their reign of terror alive against 2 men who have held the WWWF tag team titles in the past (with different opponents) INSIDE A STEEL CAGE... First team out WINS!

WWWF World Heavyweight Title Match

Champion: Bob Backlund vs Challenger: The Masked Superstar w/ "Classy" Freddie Blassie

Quick Pick Prediction Key:

Spike Huber & Eddie Gilbert vs The "Moondogs" Rex & Spot

Gilbert is still learning his craft - not the same guy we'll later see terrorize Memphis and other territories. I'm sure he'll learn a few of those tricks from the DOGS and keep moving up. Moondogs won't take him lightly after seeing him upset Rocky Johnson

Brian Blair vs Sgt. Slaughter

Big bounceback win for the Sarge.

Tito Santana vs The Spoiler

like to see Spoiler get a day to shine, but thinking Tito will be in prime time for a while.

Texas Bullrope Match

Blackjack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

Giving the edge to the Big Texan from Eagle Pass. Should be a bloody affair.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff

Mr Wonderful bounces back with a nice win.

Bruno Sammarino vs Greg "The Hammer" Valentine

Thinking Pat Patterson pulls a fast one and aids the Hammer to the major upset!

WWWF Intercontinental Title Match

Challenger: Ricky Steamboat vs Champion: The Magnificent Muraco

Steamboat looks to be on the fast track, but liking Muraco as champ right now.

WWWF Tag Team Title Match

Challengers:"The French Connection" Rick Martel & Dino Bravo vs Champions: "The Wild Samoan's" Afa & Sika

in the cage, I think the savage Samoans will be too much, though it should be a close match and help move the challengers one notch closer.

WWWF World Title Match

Champion: Bob Backlund vs Challenger: The Masked Superstar

let's go with my usual upset special. maybe a count-out since I don't really see you taking the belt off of Backlund yet - though as he spends time training the youngsters (Romper Room!), he could become distracted and vulnerable to someone (ala Ivan Koloff shocking Bruno Sammartino). There was some real life heat with Superstar and Backlund, so it would not surprise me at all for the masked man to take the gold - he would be a worthy champion, great credentials, and give us a whole new spin on history! The more I think about it, the more I like it.

Spike Huber & Eddie Gilbert vs The "Moondogs" Rex & Spot

Hotsuff is not going to win this match with Spike Huber as his partner. Now if I only knew who Spike Huber is....

Brian Blair vs Sgt. Slaughter

Tito Santana vs The Spoiler

Texas Bullrope Match

Blackjack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

This is Blackjack's match so I will go with him. Would love to see Barry and his father team somewhere down the road.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff

Bruno Sammarino vs Greg "The Hammer" Valentine

I will go with the Living Legend in this match.

WWWF Intercontinental Title Match

Challenger: Ricky Steamboat vs Champion: The Magnificent Muraco

Not really sure about this one, I think Muraco will retain but I will go with the Dragon.

WWWF Tag Team Title Match

Challengers:"The French Connection" Rick Martel & Dino Bravo vs Champions: "The Wild Samoan's" Afa & Sika

I like the team of Martel and Bravo but I do not think that they are ready yet.

WWWF World Title Match

Champion: Bob Backlund vs Challenger: The Masked Superstar

I can not see Bob losing this one.

Spike Huber & Eddie Gilbert vs The "Moondogs" Rex & Spot

-Love Eddie Gilbert, but I don't think he can take this one.

Brian Blair vs Sgt. Slaughter

-Sarge gets back on track. Blair takes a whooping, and somewhere, Iron Sheik will be watching on in approval.

Tito Santana vs The Spoiler

-Chico Santana should be a fixture in the upper mid card for quite a while.

Texas Bullrope Match

Blackjack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

-An aging Superstar helps give someone else a rub.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka vs "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff

-Could go either way, but I think Wonderful needs a win more.

Bruno Sammarino vs Greg "The Hammer" Valentine

-Similar to the Bullrope match, I think this is a good chance for an old warhorse like Bruno to help get someone else over.

WWWF Intercontinental Title Match

Challenger: Ricky Steamboat vs Champion: The Magnificent Muraco

-Dragon! Dragon! Dragon!

WWWF Tag Team Title Match

Challengers:"The French Connection" Rick Martel & Dino Bravo vs Champions: "The Wild Samoan's" Afa & Sika

-I debated going with the challengers, but decided that the Samoans still have some steam in their title reign.

WWWF World Title Match

Champion: Bob Backlund vs Challenger: The Masked Superstar

-A DQ or countout loss is always possible, but I certainly don't anticipate Bobby dropping the strap here.

Blackjack Mulligan vs "Superstar" Billy Graham

Mulligan is standing in the ring an keeps throwing his end of the Bullrope at Graham which Graham seemingly wants nothing to do with... Graham gets on the apron and Mulligan again runs at him throwing the rope and metal cowbell that is anchored in the middle of the rope at Steamboat.... Graham waves off Mulligan and heads for the dressing room... Graham gets all the way to the back before he decides to turn around and head back to the ring... After taking an eternity to get attached to the bullrope, referee Dick Weurhle calles for the bell and imediately Mulligan yanks at the rope throwing Billy Graham into the middle of the ring where he whips him wth a big heavy rope,... Graham tries to climb over the top rope and head for higher grounds on several occasions, but each time Blackjack would yank him back in the ring... Mulligan would wrap the rope around Graham's neck and snap mare him over several times while the rope strangles Billy Graham, who is laid out in the middle of the ring and Mulligan grabs the cowbell and looks for audience approval before driving the cowbell into the forehead of Billy Graham busting him wide open... Mulligan would then back Graham into the corner for his 1st touch, work his way down to touch the next turnbuckle for the 2nd corner touch before Graham puts on the brakes and eye rakes Mulligan and then choked him over the top rope, then slingshotted Mulligans head back after he was choking him over the top rope... Graham put the boots to Mulligan, then went for his first corner touch, then a second and big ole Blackjack yanked the rope, which brought Billy back into the middle of the ring and DDT'd him... As Graham laid motionless Mulligan wiped gathered himself and went for the corner touches and again got two, as he went for the 3rd, Billy Graham grbbed the cowbell and drilled Mulligan over the head, busting open Blackjack and then Graham went for the touches getting the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd and on his way for the 4th Mulligan pulled him back away from the turnbuckle and clothelined Graham... Graham again laid motionless and Mulligan drpped an elbow, then scooped up The Superstar and slammed him and then dropped another elbow... Mulligan went for the turnbuckles and got the 1st three, but on his way for the 4th, Graham pulled up the bullrope which Mulligan had caught between his legs and yanked on it so hard, that the rope low blow dropped Blackjack to his knees... Graham took the cowbell and drove the edge of it into Mulligan's forehead and the blood was seen squirting out from Blackjacks head... Graham then wrapped rope around his neck and Graham threw Mulligan over the top rope and Graham pulled on the rope which was around Blackjacks neck, thus hanging him over the top rope until Blackjack crashed to the ringside floor... Graham followed out and posted Blackjack into ring post... Graham took the cowbell and tried to mash it across Mulligan's face, but Blackjack moved and Graham connected with the ring post.... Blackjack fought back with several elbowsmashes and dragged Graham back into the ring and touched 3 corners, but again Graham would crotch Mulligan with the rope... Graham then gingerly climbed up to the top rope and was going to smash Mulligan with the cowbell, but Blackjack gave a yank and Graham flew to the mat.... Mulligan dragged Graham with him as he touched the 1st corner, the 2nd corner, the 3rd corner and just before he touched the 4th corner Graham lowblowed Mulligan and The Superstar touched the 4th corner.... Graham had actually touched each other corner right after Mulligan had touched, giving the victory to the Superstar...Imediately Graham disconnected himself from the bullrope and headed for the locker room

Muraco rakes the eyes and one arm whips Steamboat into corner and follows with a stiff clotheline... Muraco climbs onto 2nd rope and waits for Steamboat to get to his feet and drives a fist to Steamboats head from 2nd rope... Muraco then spends time taunting the crowd, which has errupted into a "beach bum" chant... Muraco hits a gut wrench suplex for the closest pinfall attempt yet.. Muraco then puts Steamboat into a chinlock as Muraco drives his knee into Steamboats back... Steamboat shows some frustration thinking he had it...Steamboat chops away and whips Muraco into turnbuckle and nails Muraco with a backdrop coming out.. Steamboat climbs to the top turnbuckle and chops Muraco on the top of the head and again covers for a 2 3/4 count... Steamboat whips Muraco, but Muraco reverses it and Steamboat leaps up on the 2nd ropes and dives back with a twisting high cross body block which Muraco ducks and Steamboat lands face first on the mat...

Muraco kicks away again.. Lifts Steamboat up and into a bodyslam position, but drops him into a clotheline over the top rope instead... Muraco lifts Steamboat into a vertical suplex and stalls Steamboat upside down for a few seconds before dropping him on his back and covers for another 2 count...Muraco rakes Steamboats eyes over the top rope...Muraco then runs off the opposite side ropes with a full head of Steam and clothelines Steamboat over the top rope with the momentum taking both over... and both landing on their feet on the ringside floor... Steamboat backdrops Fuji onto Muraco, to a great ovation from the crowd... Both men get to the apron and Steamboat chops away at Muraco and Muaco falls in the ring as Joey Marella continues his count... Steamboat looks out at the crowd... and climbs up to the top rope... Steamboat dives off the top rope with a high cross bodyblock onto Muraco in the center of the ring, then crowd chants along 1...2...3.... Steamboat jumps up exhausted and raises his hands as he falls into the corner... There is a discussion going on between Joey Marella and Howard Finkel as Marella hands the belt to The Magnificent Muraco and raises his hand...

Challengers: "The French Connection" Dino Bravo & Rick Martel w/ Ande The Giant vs Champions: "The Wild Samoan's" Afa & Sika w/ "Captain" Louis Albano

Howard Finkel announces the first team to get both memebers outside the confines of the STEEL CAGE wins and that both "King" Curtis Iaukea & Samula are barred from ringside... And that Captain Louis Albano must be handcuffed to ANDRE THE GIANT!!!!

Albano is seen blessing himself as he is handcuffed to Andre.... Albano tries to walk away, but Andre yanks him right back in place and forces the Captain to sit on a steel chair...As Martel & Bravo enter the ring The Samoans charge and both Martel and Bravo duck their opponenents and begin blasting away at the Samoan's Bravo slams Afa's head into the steel... Martel slams Sika's head into the steel... Martel dropkicks a staggered Sika... Bravo clothelines a staggered Afa... Martel & Bravo hit a double suplex on Afa, then a double slam on Sika...The back The Samoans into seperate corners and go to whip them into each other, but The Samoans reverse both members of The French Connection back into the turnbuckles and hit simultaneous shoulder blocks...Both Samoans give their opponenets head butts and Captain Lou tries to sit up to yell for them to go for the door and Andre shoves Albano back into the seat... As the Samoans head for the door..They are tackled into the corner by Martel and Bravo... The door is open and the crowd gets excited as it looks as if any of the 4 men could just fall out of the cage door and to the floor at any moment... Progress is stopped, the door closed... Martel shows he has great strength slamming Afa, but Sika had lowblowed Bravo and snuck up from behind and Headbutted Martel in the back of the head, then ran Martel across the ring and rammed his head into the steel cage...Afa and Bravo bothgot up and exchanged blows , but and Afa headbut dropped Dino to a knee... Afa hit the ropes and paint brushed Bravo with his bare foot right into Dino's face...Sika raked Martel' head across the cage like a cheese greater... While Afa bit into Bravo's forhead and all four men were now bleeding at this point...Bravo was whipped into the corner... Martel was whipped into Bravo, then Sika came running in with a whole head of steamand splashed both men and made their way to the door... Martel lunged and tripped Sika... While Afa came back to stomp Martel.... But Dino hit a clotheline flooring Afa and Dino mounted himself on top of Afa, to reign down with right hands of fury.. Martel was sent into the cage again and Martel's face at this point was a complete crimson mask...The Samoans hit a double head but on Bravo and headed for the door, but again Martel lunged at both men and came up blocking their double head butt attempt and blasting his way back and forth between Afa & Sika...Bravo joined the affair and whipped Afa hitting a drop toe hold while Martel whipped Sika and backdropped him onto his partner Afa... Martel and Bravo whipped Afa and hit a double elbow to the head then ran at Sika and nailed a double clotheline... Martel began climbing the cage but was pulled back by Sika as Bravo couldn't escape Afa as he had went for the door...Sika bit at the wound on Martel's forehead causing more blood loss and covering Sika's mouth in blood as well... Meanwhile Afa stomped away at Bravo, as Albano became excited at ringside ad was sat down aggressively again by Andre... The Samoans whipped their opponents into the ropes and both members of the French Connection reversed the whips and hit double backdrops... Martel headed for one corner and Bravo for the other as the egan to climb out of the cage at the corners opposite the cage door... As Martel was on top rope Sika grabbed his foot and Sika tugged at Martel while Martel was reaching the top of the cage... Afa did the same with Bravo in the other corner... Sika and Afa then began climbing up the ropes as to contain Martel & Bravo as they had reached the top of the cage... Martel and Sika, now were standing on the top turnbuckle exchanging blows... Bravo kept kicking at Afa who grasped the cage as stood on the 2nd turnbuckle... With one swoop Martel knocked Sika to the mat and Bravo had kicked Afa to the mat as well... Both Samoans were right by the door as they got to their feet, while Martel and Bravo began climbing down the otherside... Captain Lou is SCREAMING "HURRY" at his Samoan's.. Who walk out the door, but just split seconds AFTER Martel and Bravo jumped down from the cage and landed on the floor!

THE TIME OF THE MATCH: 17:42 Your Winners: And NEWWWWW!!!!!! WWWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD THE TEAM OF RICK MARTEL & DINO BRAVO! RATED: C+

Andre uncuffed Albano and went over to celebrate with his bloodied French Connection Mates.... Albano went over to his Samoan's by the cage door and began yelling at them... King Curtis Iaukea and Samula came from out of the dressing room and Curtis got right in Albano's face and the two had a heated exchange with Iaukea slapping Albano across the face several times... Albano decked Iaukea.... Then Samula tossed Albano into the cage and Afa, Sika and Iaukea followed Albano inside the cage... Bot Samoan's towered over Albano who began begging for mercy and ran to climb out of the cage... But Sika and Afa just grabbed him and repeatedly slammed Captain Lou's head into the steel cage... Sika whipped Albano into Afa who was ready for a Samoan Slam.. Then a double head but by Afa & Sika on a bleeding Albano as Iaukea then slammed his big walking stick across the head of Albano, while he screamed what sounded like cryptic sayings that were not understandable to the english speaking audience...

I liked this match the best as it reminds me of the bullrope matches of old. I love the finish as that is pretty much how every heel wins a bullrope match.

I remember there was a really good one (at least I thought it was good) between Stan Hansen and Lex Luger for the US Title. This reminded me of that match.

I was a little shocked at the outcomes of the two tag team matches. I mean I was a fan of Eddie Gilbert (not a fan of his brother mind you) but I was shocked that he and someone that I never even heard of beat the Moondogs! That was a great upset!:D

The tag titles swap was another one that I did not see either. Just a quick question, did Dino Bravo ever work as a face in real life? I only remember him from the Canadian Strongman days.

It must be Bob Backlund is really getting his protege's into shape as Gilbert & Huber over the Moondogs has to be considered an upset... Eddie is really starting to get on a roll... Huber spent a very brief time in the WWF as jobber, but I think he made his name in the midwest.. He married Dick the Bruiser's daughter, and I think Dick the Bruiser black balled him after they divorced...

Bravo did spend some time as a face... He was quite popular in quebec where he spent a good portion of his career and worked as a face earlier in his career in the WWF, even winning the tag team belts with Domenic Denucci in the late 70's... I think they beat Tor Tamata & Mr. Fuji for the titles...

As far as the Bullrope matche... I honestly dont know if I've ever really seen any other kind of ending... But I'll probably go and youtube that Luger/Hanson match tonight

Yeah now watch the match will probably suck because I said that I liked it.:D

I do have to say that I wished that Stan would have fought here more. It sucks that he spent so much time in Japan.

I dont know if Stan Hanson can have a bad match... Luger will do his best to try to make it bad, but I think Hanson will still carry him:p

Greg "The Hammer" Valentine beat Salvatore Bellomo 6:48 Valentine takes him time and deliberately looks to punish Bellomo... Valentine seemingly could've had the pin after his stalling vertical suplex which he dropped Bellomo on his head or after an inverted piledriver or after a forearm Hammer in which Bellomo was on ringside apron and Valentine hit him so hard that he flipped back over into the ring... But instead Valentine lifted Bellomo up after a 2 count each time and instead worked over Sal's leg and applied the figure four leg lock... RATED: D

After the match Greg Valentine demanded Gene Okerlund get in the ring with the mic, because he has something to say... Valentine stated, "I'm sick and tired of these fossils Sammartino & Patterson conspiring together to try and hold me back... Since I've been here in the WWWF I have laid a path of broken bodies behind me and for some reason, and maybe its because I ended his son's career... That Bruno Sammartino thinks he can fight for his boy and avaenge hid torn ligaments that MY figure four caused.. Then that geratric Pat Patterson takes over and thinks he can stick his nose in my business putting me in the ring with Bruno and referee-ing the matches.. Bruno SLAPS Valentine across the face and the two grab each other and fall to the ground wrestling for position to get a shot at each other as the lcker room pours out again to break up the melee btween these two as finally Jimmy Hart backs his man up and gets him to head back to the locker room RATED: C+

Tiger Chung Lee w/ "Classy" Fred Blassie beat Spike Huber 9:40

Monsoon and Okerlund both concur how it seems as if Blassie's NEW Bodyguard Assassin is fighting with more vengeance as of late... Huber takes to Chung Lee hitting him with an arsenal of hiptosses, bodyslams and a running powerslam for a 2 count... But Huber puts his head down and Chung Lee puts on the breaks and hits an uppercut chop to the throat... Chung Lee wears down Huber with a nerve hold on the neck... Then continues to pummel him with chops... Huber fights back with sevral elbows and a dropkick, but Tiger Chung again catches Huber with a thrust to the throat and then grabs a double underhook and drives Huber's head down to the mat, between his knees for the 1...2..3.... "Big" John Studd w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan beat "Polish Power" Ivan Putski 7:01

Studd and Putski stand eye to eye, or rather eye to belly button... But Putski gets the crowd behind him, as he insinuates he's going to slam Studd... Putski comes close, but Studd over powers him into the corner and hits a killer elbow...Studd hiptosses Putski out of corner and drops an elbow fr a 2 count... Studd grabs a standing front facelock, which Putski elbows his way out, then delivers several right hands to stagger the big man... Bobby Heenan jumps on the ring apron and Putski walks towards him, getting the crowd worked up as he is about to blast Heenan, as the "Brain" begs for mercy... Only to have Studd come up from behind with a knee to the back... Studd lifts Putski's arm in the air and delivers a punch right to the center of the chest, that lewaves Putski clamoring for air as the big man covers for the 1...2...3... RATED: D-

EVENT CENTER w/ Billy Red Lyons: (Red Lyons) "Alright fans you heard already about new tag team champions from this past Saturday Night at Madison Suare Garden, but we had 2 champions walk out of Madison Square Garden as champion... The WWWF world champiuon Bob Backlund is joining me right now and champ it hasn't been easy." (Backlund) "No it hasn't Billy, and I wouldn't want it any other way... Jst when I think I'm through a tough challenge with Magnificent Muraco, Sgt. Slaughter is there, just when you think you got a break beating the Sarge, The Masked Superstar is there and its been like this for almost 4 years now Billy, and I hope it continues...Whether it be Slaughter, Superstar, Big John Studd, I know Billy Graham is looking to get back in the title picture... I'll keep fighting the fight and keep training by boys, to prove that hard work will get you places and Eddie Gilbert, Brian Blair, Spike Huber may be tired of jumping rope, The Harvard Step test and long intense mat training sessions, but just look at them in recent weeks... Continuing to fight the good fight, that's what we are all about, so bring on the challengers... I may be a little beat down, but the true testament of a champion is how he can get back up for the next challenge...and I'm ready, we're ready" ... RATED: D+

Tito Santana, Ricky STeamboat & Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka beat "Superstar" Billy Graham, Rocky Johnson & The Iron Sheik 14:47

This match looked like a matchup of 2 teams, one with chemistry and one without chemistry... Santana & Steamboat dominate early with armdrags and hiptosses on Johnson and The Sheik... Snuka tags in and chops away at Billy Graham causing him to bail to the floor and stall,... The Sheik jumps back in and pulls a gutwrech suplex out of nowhere on Snuka... Sheik then takes his pointed boots to Snuka's head... Johnson tags in and starts shuffling around ring "boxer style" connecting with right hands, while Graham is on the floor arguing with fans... Snuka counters with chops tagging in Steamboat who hits a cross body block for a 2 count... Then Steamboat shows his strength with a press slam... Graham tries to tag in but Sheik reaches in front of him and tags , and goes to Steamboats eyes, followed by a vertical suplex and the Shiek wipes his hands off saying these guys are nothing as he snot rockets Steamboat... But STeamboat fights back with some chops and Sheik tries to tag Graham, but the Superstar jumps off the apron infuriated with the Sheik, waves by by and heads to the locker room... Johnson tgas in and he and Steamboat exchange punches...Johnson hits a slam, and climbs the ropes... Johnson is taunting with the crowd as Sheik tries to tell him to watch out for Snuka, who pushes Rocky off the top rope... Steamboat tags in Santana who comes in a house of fire with forearms to Johnson and one to Sheik... Johnson rakes the eyes and sends Tito into the ropes, Tito ducks a clotheline and bounces back with a forearm smash knocking Rocky out for the 1..2..3.. Sheik leaves without helping up his partner as he waves his hands in disgust as well.... RATED: C

EVENT CENTER w/ Billy Red Lyons: (Red Lyons) We talked earlier with World Champion Bob Backlund, but anther champion who may have been a little lucky to get the win this past Saturday Night was Intercontinental champion The Magnificent Muraco... Lucky you say Red, I'll tell you the ring general that the Magnificent one is, knew precisely what the referee's count was at, I knew what was precisely the action that Steamboat was going to take and new Precisely that when he went for the high cross ody block off the top rope, that he wouldn't be in the ring within the 10 count, thus preserving my Intercontinental championship... Red Lyons, the lucky one is Steamboat that I decided that was the way I would earn my victory, next time he wont be so lucky, when I snap his neck in the middle of the ring for the 1..2...3.. "The French Connection" Rick Martel & Dino Bravo beat "The Moondogs" Rex & Spot by Disqualification at 11:20

Monsoon talks about how great the belts look on Martel & Bravo... Okerlund talks about their persistance and their never say die attitude... The champs look gret keeping The Moondogs off balance using the scientific skills, their spped and their strength as The Moondogs dont have the spped or the savy to keep up with martel and Bravo overpowers them with suplexes and slams... The Moodogs are disqualified when (MATCH RATED: C)-

Show up at ringside and trip Martel as he was bouncing off the ropes... Refree Dick Kroll imediatley calls for the bell and Iaukea demands that That Samoan's recieve their return bought as "The Samaon's have alieviated themselves of the dead weight that they've been carrying around with them... The Samoan's look hungry and Martel & Bravo look ready for a fight when out comes...

Captain Lou Albano with his head still bandaged from the bloody betdown he took on Saturday Night... "You see King Curtis I may not be as tough as mean as blood thirsty as these savages... But I am smarter, you see their contracts are signed with MY name... Its my name representing these savages on the contract and is ME! Who owns the right to the tag team titlereturn match, so If you want to get at Martel & Bravo you have to go through ME! and my men, who will rightly claim their postion as top tag team in the world and bring the titles back to ME!" and out walk..

August 6th 1983: All Star Wrestling (Saturday morning)

The Dog days of summer are approaching, and so are the wrestling "dogs" or jobbers as its time to get squashed on Saturday mornng with....

WWWF ALL STAR WRESTLING

Hosted by Dick Graham & Lord Alfred Hayes

"The North/South Connection" Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch w/ Lou Albano beat George Wells & Steve Travis 6:34

Graham and Hayes make mention of how Lou Albano and NOT he Samoan's own therights to tag title return match and that Pat Patterson has made a match-up for next Saturday when WWWF returns to the Philly Spectrum... Adonis & Murdoch plow through their opponenets when Adonis finishes off Wells with a bulldog... RATED: D+

EVENT CENTER w/ Gene Okerlund: (Okerlund) "All right wrestling fans, it looks as if we have a bit of controversy surrounding the number one contenders to the WWWF tag team titles Lou Albano states he owns the rights, not the team that decimated him after their loss of the tag team titles , in Wild Samoan's... King Curtis what do you make of this?" (Iaukea) As the Samoan's stand behind him picking things out of each others hair "CAPTAIN LOUIS ALBANO , YOU WERE THE CANCER OF THIS TEAM, YOU WERE THE REASON BEHIND THE DEMISE OF THE MOST SADISTIC, DESTRUCTIVE FORCE AND NOW YOU WANT TO CLAIM, YOU OWN THE RIGHTS TO RETURN MATCH, WHEN WHAT HAVE YOU ACTUALLY DONE FOR THE WILD SAVAGES OF SAMOA... ALBANO THAT IS PERFECT BECAUSE IF YOU WANT OT BRING A TEAM TO FACE US, THAT GIVES US ANOTHER REASON, ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO GET AHOLD OF THE SLIME THAT YOU ARE AND FOR ONCE AND ALL RID THE WORLD OF THE DISEASE THAT YOU ARE.... RATED: D-

The Masked Superstar w/ "Classy" Freddie Blassie beat Tony Garea 7:18

Tony put up his usual good fight, at point he had the Masked Superstar in an abdominal stretch, but Blassy got on the apron and Blassie's new Assassin Bodyguard, Tiger Chung Lee slid in on the other side of the ring and low blowed Tony... The Masked Superstar took over from there finishing Garea off with a backbreaker for the 1...2...3... RATED: D-

EVENT CENTER w/ Gene Okerlund: (Okerlund) "Allright wrestling fans lets get some answers Louis Albano, your NEW team The North South Connection will face off against your old team The Wild Samoans next Saturday in Philly in a match made by Pat Patterson to declare the number one contenders to the World Tag Team Titles..." (Albano) Let me tell you Gene about the genuis I am, when I write up a contract for my men, its my name on the cntract, its me that recives matches, percentagages of the winners share, appearance fees and rights to return matches... So really my new team , the wrestling machine of Adonis and Murdoch rightfully can claim that return match, but I want revenge, I want justice to be serverd, I want the Samoan's to feel the pain, that I felt and there is no two better in men in the world capable of doing and performing the exact kind of revenge that I'm looking for and King Curtis you no-good, scarred headed monster, you are not off limits as far as my new men are considered... Next Saturday in Philly, we'll prove that The Samoan's are nothing with out the Captain pulling the strings for them.." RATED: D+

Bob Backlund, Eddie Gilbert & Brian Blair beat Charlie Fultan, Larry Sharpe & Johnny Rodz 7:35

In a true test of endurance Backlund brought out a jump rope fr one member of his team to work out with, while the other wrestled and the 3rd tagged in... Once tagged out, they would rotate around like it was a game of gym class volleyball...Johnny Rodz would actually attack Eddie Gilbert while he was jumping rope and choke him with the jump rope... Backlund came for the save... Sharpe & Fultan would double team Blair in the ring, but Blair would get a criss cross going and dropped down allowing Sharpe and Fultan to collide... Blair grabbed a sleeper on Larry Sharpe and it was "night night time" for the Pretty Boy... RATED: D

EVENT CENTER w/ Gene Okerlund (Okerlund) Fans I have just recieved word of a match signed for next Saturday Night at the Philadelphia Spectrum...a BIG six man tag team matchup as Fred Blassie's men of Sgt. Slaughter & The Masked Superstar will join forces with Intercontinental Champion The Magnificent Muraco to take on Ricky STeamboat, WORLD CHAMPION Bob Backlund & THE 8TH WONDER OF THE WORLD Andre The Giant." (Blassie) Thats perfect, My 2 biggests assets in the Blassie Army, Slaughter and The Masked Superstar and we join forces with The Magnificent Muraco, to take out all these pencil necked geeks Backlund, Steamboat and Andre... It sure we be nice to be the ones recognized for taking ut the Giant...And it sure would be nice to get in a position where Backlund is matched up 2 on 1 with my men... Its elimination time for these geeks." RATED: D+

Ricky Steamboat beat Paul Christy 5:40

Graham talks about how Steamboat was counted out, by just a second before he leaped with a high cross body block onto Muraco, which would've made him Intercontinental champion. last weekend in Madison Square Garden... Steamboat finsihes Christy off with a suplex, a bodyslam then climbs the ropes and hits the body block on Christy for the 1...2..3... RATED: C

As the match concluded and Steamboat headed back to the dressing room, The Magnificent Muraco was headed out to the ring for his match... Muraco began jawing at Steamboat... Then Steamboat got right in Muraco's face... Mr. Fuji kept shoving his cane into Steamboat's chest and Ricky retaliated with a big chop and was ready to fight Muraco on the entrance way, until the referee's and officials broke things up and ushered Steamboat to he back and Muraco to the ring... RATED: C

"The Magnificent" Muraco w/ Mr. Fuji beat The Tonga Kid 10:25

Graham mentioned how this was a NON-Title matchup... Tonga Kid took the fight to Muraco, who was staring and taunting back towards the dressing room and with fans, by slingshottong Muraco into the ring... Tonga hit several dropkicks and a bodyslam and Muraco headed to the outside, but Tonga followed right behind and delivered several knife edge chops to Muraco up against the ring post... Tonga Kid shoved Muraco back in the ring and Muraco ran to ropes, Tong leapfrogged Muraco twice and hit a big back drop for a 2 count... Tonga Kid grabbed a side headlock, but Muraco turned that into a side suplex and took over the offense, stomping away at The Kid...Muraco hung tonga upside down in corner and ran nwith several knees to his open midsection... Muraco pulled out the surfboard and really cranked back on the arms of Tonga, while driving his knee then his foot into The Kid's back..A one arm slam by Muraco got a 2 count, despite that Muraco barely covered him...Muraco dropped 2 elbows, then hit ropes for more momentum and a third elbow, But Tonga rolled out of the way... Tonga got to his feet and chopped Muraco back nd slammed Muraco... The Kid went ot the top rope and came off with a splash, but Muraco got his knees up, then rlled The Tonga Kid up grabbing a handfull of tights and got the 1...2...3.... RATED: D
