Although I record ROH every week I barely ever watch it. I remember those first two "generations" of guys that came through ROH seemingly all made it big. Now days you don't hear about anyone creating a buzz in ROH. Aren't one of the Briscoes champions and some Adam Cole guy is a contender. I saw a promo the other day. Anyway I know the Briscoes because they've been around since the start of the thing (after seeing one of their twitter rants I now see why they'll NEVER be in a WWE ring). Now days though there isn't anyone "new" there that has a buzz like Daniels, or Danielson or Joe or Punk or even Kendrick, London, Nigel, etc.

I've heard through various people that their business is down, I know they're on their third owner I believe, Feinstein, to Silky, to Sinclair sounds right. I know people have been saying TNA is on their death bed for years but the honest truth is as long as they can produce shows in Orlando and more importantly as long as Spike keeps them on TV they'll never die. ROH I don't know if its people over reacting or if business is down with them.

On one hand I think its awesome when the WWE uses them as a farm club but doesn't own them because if they did they wouldn't be ROH and couldn't be ROH not under the corporate umbrella. On the other hand sometimes people that follow ROH then see those guys turn up in the WWE and get all ragey and butt hurt when they "aren't being used right" instead of just appreciating this guy went from bingo halls to six figures in a lot of cases. Very cool to see the article though I love their slight nods to ROH.

ROH is in a tough place because they've been trying to expand but it's hurt their product in the process.

They have to run more shows which leads to crowd burnout

They have weekly TV which is watered down (for obvious reasons)

The Jim Cornette experiment set the company back a bit as he tried to book modern wrestling with old school elements and it just fell flat

It has been trying to have a more mainstream feel which means falling into the same traps as the big companies (insert mega heel stable here)

A lot of little nuisances that weren't there before have suddenly popped up like extremely inconsistent commentary quality (Steve Corino most of the time is unlistenable)

Their production values are head and shoulders above the rest of the non WWE/TNA companies but even then they've had issues with iPPV recently as well. ROH is on the upswing now and they still have tons of talent (Elgin is a top 3 big man in the business, Adam Cole is amazing, Kyle O'Reilly, etc) but Gabe Sapolsky's new projects (since 2010) have been basically doing with ROH used to do as well as PWG which is quite easily the best US company and contending with New Japan as the best in the world. It shows too because since 2012 the following guys were signed to WWE

Brodie Lee/Luke Harper

Pac/Adrian Neville

El Generico/Sami Zayn

Sami Calihan/Solomon Crowe

Samuray del Sol/Kalisto

All have came from PWG and/or DGUSA/Evolve. The only minor exception is Generico who worked in ROH but he had been in PWG for 3 or 4 years before even working for ROH. They are pretty much the go to indy companies for new talent these days because they work similar to how ROH used to during their best period in the mid 00s.

I've yet to see Cole cut a promo that didn't make me change the channel. In the ring the guy's amazing, I'll give him that. I also haven't seen every ROH show or anything to say there's no way he's a promo guy. If anyone can find some solid mic work from him, share a link.

I would say NJPW are top right now for wrestling, but PWG are putting on the most entertaining shows right now (including great wrestling), the atmosphere and wrestling coupled with the less serious spots they do make for great shows.

I just checked wikipedia myself. I don't believe it. I've stood next to enough indy wrestlers (Davey Richards, Sami Callihan) and then seen footage of them next to other wrestlers, to not trust wikipedia for heights. If Daniel Bryan is 5'10 I'll eat my hat.

Although if EVERY wrestler adds 2-3" to their height, I guess Elgin isn't as far off Big Man standards as I thought.

Pretty sure WWE bill people 1 or 2 inches above their actual height.

Sorry I've been watching too many WWF Vader matches, Vince jizzed his pants everytime he thought of that name.

I watch PWG from time to time they are pretty great. Don't come around to philly too much though and I don't buy iPPVs that i haven't seen built so I don't catch it as much as I'd like.

As far as NJPW is there English commentary available? I'd actually purchase some of it but I can't watch wrestling if I don't understand the commentary. To me it's like eating a cake without icing. Commentary is such a huge part of wrestling and storytelling that I can't deal without it when I'm watching it on TV. There's a different level of immersion when you're seeing it live, so I get that. But I DID catch when njpw did their tour over here and that was pretty awesome, but I had the benefit of my japanophile friend telling me what had been going on. Ironically when I watch stick and ball sports I almost do better without commentary.

If it's anything like the WWE one then I rather wait until they do English commentary to follow as closely as I would like.

The only thing I can understand is the wrestler names and when they call moves but it doesn't really bother me. In long matches I can kinda zone out though
