I can't decide if I'm going to create my own design for the OMEGA title, or do one based on the actual title. I can't find a picture of it at all now.

 

Have you seen it before? I figured I might have a look, but when I went looking using my MASTER GOOGLE TACTICS I realized that I wouldn't know any of the OMEGA belts if I saw them.

I've seen them in clips from OMEGA on the Hardy Show. I'm thinking about just taking a screen cap of that, but then I'd have to go watch the Hardy Show and try to find an episode that actually has a clip from OMEGA. That seems like it might be a needle in the haystack kind of situation.

Found this one on youtube, it's Matt Hardy(Surge) vs Jeff Hardy(Will O' The Wisp) in a mask vs title match. Matt is wearing the title in the beginning, but the camera man never really gets a good shot of it.

I see a lot of belts are posted as .png files. The game doesn't recognize that format however so is there any way I could make them into a .jpg? Keep in mind that I don't have anything like photoshop or so installed.

Easiest way would be to use MS Paint. You can open up the .png image and "save as" and save as a .jpeg image. The reason I personally use PNGs is because it's a well-compressed format that doesn't create artifacts like JPG does.

Going back to trying the Original belts. Finished Original 06 last night, and I gotta say, it was the most ANNOYING one to date to do so far, even WITH the almost-viewable source pic right behind the other layers.

I think that's pretty good for a first time, but you probably need to make it a bit more metallic looking.. if that's metal, anyway

I like it, but considering the wackiness, it seems to be a bit bland. Maybe changing the grey stripe thingies in the background to purple or orange or something fun would probably make it more interesting.

That's a pretty nice first effort!

And yeah, some color alterations (along with some playing-around-with of gradients) would really make it POP.

Those belts are intense. Does anyone have a link to a detailed tutorial on making those? Preferably written I know there are video tutorials out there but I can't follow those at all.

my first ever attempt.. obviously its not finished..

 

but ive no idea where to get things like a globe or an eagle or anything for the centrepiece..

 

not the greatest thing ever, thats for sure.. but im happy ive had a crack at it..

 

any guidance would be greatly appreciatted, naturally..

Gradients is my first advice for you. They work really well to create a 'metally' look.

I use "Easy Graphics Converter" you can convert all of these: windows bitmap, gif, jpg, png, pcx, psd, tga, tiff,wmf and emf.

I feel my second attempt is a much 'cleaner' and 'polished' attempt.. think ive done a better gradient this time round as well.. on a second look, the strap is a bit dodgey.. so i think ill work on the shape of that when i have another crack...

 

gonna keep at this and hopefully get better..

A good place to start for centerpieces is to Google Image Search the terms "globe stencil", "eagle stencil", and "lion stencil"--since those are the most common centerpieces on belts.

 

"Barbed Wire" yields some pretty usable results.

 

Then you can expand beyond stencils, try to find other variations, other birds, other large cats (maybe large dogs), and play around with your filters to make them look belt-able (like using Bas Relief, Find Edges/Glowing Edges, Posterize/Poster Edges, Cutout, etc.).

 

In Fireworks though, you've gotta use more ingenuity with your filtering (and get Xenofex and Alien Skin, seriously) to get good results.

 

But regardless of which gfx prog you use, gradients ARE indeed your friend. Experiment with the other types (besides Linear/Reflect), like how ReapeR makes his shine using the Angle gradient and some Adobe-Fu. Sometimes I use Contour gradients (Fireworks) and Fireworks-Fu, but mostly on the strap.

 

Sometimes subtle texturing for the strap is best (but not so subtle that you can't see it when it shrinks to a 200x100 belt pic), but there was a giant 10MB PNG a page or 2 back that had a bunch of Leather textures on it that you could use to good effect.

 

Also, shape layers rather than bitmap layers, because paths are editable after you finish and you'll have to almost start from scratch with rasterized layers.
