Wall of Muscle
(with
Emma Chase
) – SWF World Tag Team champions

Take the brute force and experience of Runaway Train and add the athleticism and charisma of ‘Down Under Superstar’ Swoop McCarthy ... Resultant pairing promises to be one of the dominant champion teams ... Managed by Emma Chase and backed by Brandon James, it’s hard to see anyone getting the titles off them without an awful lot of luck

Big Time
(with
Katie Cameron
)

The former Biggz Boyz have matured, forcibly ... A sustained period of missed chances saw them break with Jessie and assault their former friends, the Bumfholes ... Two-day tag title reign was a record-setting fifth overall, but also a record-setting shortest reign ... New attitude makes them dangerous, and has given their opponents and rivals some hefty medical bills

Canadian duo are technically superb ... Veteran John Maverick and youngster Sean Deeley make it very hard to match them on the mat ... Can be overpowered, but are adept at deflecting stronger wrestlers by taking them off their feet and out of their element

The Amazing Bumfholes

Very popular brother duo recently recorded their fourth tag title reign ... Don’t let the awful record fool you – these guys are improving fast ... Green and Red have fought hard in every match, and seem to have a near-telepathic understanding ... I was begging for this to be the tag team post, and I was not disappointed.

No need to beg - I'm even doing the non-wrestlers :p

yay! onward to vixxens and factions, sounds like an expansion

Expansion? SWF: Supreme: The Burning Crusade... Should I be offering DLC as well? :D

Anyway, I'll put the next ones up tonight, probably.

Yep. Putting Steven Parker, Davis Wayne Newton, KC Glenn and - to a lesser extent - Kirk Jameson together looks like a family reunion too...

While I think of it, I'm looking for some suggestions from readers. I've been toying with ideas for Jack Bruce's - riffing on the 'Long Island Angel' nickname and trying to come up with equivalents for as many states/cities as I can.

A few I have is 'Sultan of Seattle', 'New York's Finest', 'Permanent Mardi Gras' for New Orleans and 'The Horsepower Hero' for Detroit. Any and all suggestions would be gratefully received.

OOC: Some great suggestions there. I love Cincinatti Screamer and Duke of Dakota especially...

This is the last of the roster reviews, and I have one backstage flavour post to put up (they won't appear regularly in this diary, but as a look at the changed locker room I thought it was worth doing) and then we'll have the STV preview up sometime over the weekend.

Am I the only one surprised that - of all the main players in the SWF - only Valiant and Geidroyc have a worse win/loss than the mighty Vengeance? :o

As for Jack Bruce: The Alabama Slammer, The Ayatolla of Arizona, The Lousiana Legend, The Tennessee Titan... :/ That's all I got :p

Big, big, big assumption there, D... :p In truth, I like Valiant, but I've not used him to the best of his abilities at all. Considering that he's made several points improvement in almost every skill of note in the last ten months, he deserves better than he's had so far. Still, he's only thirty. Plenty of time to become the freakin' Valiant that A in Star Quality proclaims him to be.

And I love Ayatollah of Arizona. Now to work out what region Arizona is in.

The SWF had been busy in 2010. I’d made a point of staying up to date with our roster, of course. As head booker it would be irresponsible not to. Still, I didn’t know quite a few of the faces backstage tonight as well as I needed to.

So I was moving backstage ahead of the show. Around twenty or so of our wrestlers would be on-screen tonight – that’s only a third of the roster, but we wanted to keep attention focused on the matches.

We were making sure that a lot of the people not on the main show got time before or after the show to stay fresh in peoples’ minds. To a degree, some of these dark spots would be generic, but they’d also build the crowd’s interest and send them home buzzing.

To that end, Marc DuBois was practising with his flash paper. The youngster – I should stop thinking of him that way, he’s closer to 30 than 20 – approaches every aspect of his craft with admirable dedication, including launching a mostly harmless fireball in his opponents’ faces.

Hannah and Brent Hill were standing nearby, quietly running over their segment for the show. Brent is similarly dedicated to his craft in-ring, if sadly not as much on the mic. Past 40, he’s here to teach people – but his overness means that he can teach in the main event. It’s a tricky juggling act, pushing someone like Brent who would normally be on the way down, but whose talent is such that he belongs at or near the top. I don’t think that the SWF will be where Brent captures the World title he can arguably be said to deserve... but who can say what’ll happen?

Next to the newcomer was Eric Eisen, limbering up ahead of his tournament match, gingerly stretching the injured knee that benched him for almost eighteen months. Eric has told me before that he doesn’t have long left because of the knee. I’ve heard a few grumbles that Eric tends to sell a leg injury in every match, but it’s not selling when it legitimately hampers his performance. Eric deserved the World title for the hard work he’s put in during his career, and the dedication he put into coming back to anything like full fitness. He might not be the most talented worker in the ring, but for sheer dedication to performance he’s one of our best. Of course, he has a big name to live up to.

James Hernandez and Steven Parker were sitting together. They usually do. They’re not a team, but they have a long, long history dating back almost a decade, having both broken into the business in the Mid-Atlantic under Rip Chord. They’re both good guys, who’ll contribute a lot to the company if they can show they have the talent to make the step up to the next level. More so than the sure-fire superstars, the prodigies like Spencer Spade and Davis Newton who’ll have to go out of their way to fail, it’s wrestlers like these two who’ll benefit the most from fighting with and against Faith. Their matches should give them, and workers like Harry Allen and James Prudence, some of the final polish they need to be better than midcarders in the coming years.

Randy and Zimmy Bumfhole are never too close to Marc DuBois – not if they can help it. Long enough ago that it should all be forgotten DuBois and Randy got into a genuine fistfight backstage over who was the ‘most promising’ of the Class of 2005. It took myself and three other road agents to haul them apart, and both men (and Zimmy, unfortunately for him) suffered a major de-push as a result. The trio stagnated in the undercard, and their early promise was wasted. A complete revision of DuBois’ character helped him along earlier this year, but the Bumfholes earned a niche of losing tag title shots – not a gimmick designed to improve their lot.

Zimmy didn’t let that bother him. One of the nicest guys in the backstage area, he’s really happiest tagging with his brother. Having the beginnings of a split storyline hit the rocks probably made him a lot happier than the intended feud with his brother ever would have – even with the increased attention the storyline would have brought.

Zimmy also took the opportunity to try something different. Dumped on the B-show that scarcely garnered any attention, Zimmy slowly went a little... odd. His cloud cuckoo land inhabitant has always been one of my favourite gimmicks, and it was all done off his own bat. And while Randy and Marc remain sour at one another, Zimmy continues to be a happy man, doing the job he loves... and I’m inclined to think of him as the most promising of the Class of 2005. Funny, that.

The tag teams tend to stick together backstage. It makes sense, as they’re usually required at the same time, and keeping track of each other helps them make sure they’re in the right place at the right time. Jake Marlowe and Chris Morrissette aren’t a regular tag team (yet) but they tend to hang out together anyway. They’ve both been the subject of gimmick revision over the last year, both jettisoning cartoonish alter egos and reverting to simpler, more realistic gimmicks. The jury’s still out on how much it’s added to or subtracted from either man’s appeal, but at least they don’t look too ridiculous standing next to Jack Bruce and going toe to toe with the Succession.

Speaking of Jack Bruce, he was chatting to Squeeky McClean. Squeeky’s an old – and good – hand who I know will get a good match out of Jack. Jack is... Jack. He’s a performer, an entertainer. The fans respond to him, but then, the fans respond to a Big Mac and fries, too. It’s not necessarily good for them, but they respond to it.

Jack is a hard worker. One of the most popular wrestlers on the planet, he’s in constant demand for public appearances for charities, film premieres, TV, radio... And Jack is the perfect ambassador for the SWF. Sharp-witted, charismatic and good-looking, Jack can win over the toughest of audiences.

Unfortunately, Jack’s still lacking a bit in-ring. It’s hard to place a finger on the exact problem, but basically he’s so energised by the crowd, so determined to put on a stunning show, that sometimes he forgets the psychology of the match. To see him shrug off Vengeance’ attacks, for example, because the crowd are roaring him on...

Still, he’s getting better. The nice thing about putting him in there with Squeeky is that he doesn’t really need to sell Squeeky’s offence. That’s rough on Squeeky, of course, but that’s life – it’s Jack who’s at the top of the tree.

One man who needs no lessons on the psychology of a wrestling match is Christian Faith. The Supreme Legend has earned that title in the ring, and backstage. His last World title reign – probably his last reign – ended just one month after it began, and he’s gearing up for a demotion of sorts, working with the kids and younger talent, but Faith has attacked the proposal with the verve he’s brought to the job for almost a quarter of a century. Never mind that the storyline, such as it is, doesn’t really begin until next week, Faith’s already been in my office twice in the last week pitching ideas for potential directions for the storyline. He wants the kids to get over, and for their talent to increase, week on week, year on year. Whatever Faith can do to make sure that happens is what he wants to do. As I walked past, he was chatting to Sean Deeley and Cyclonus on the basic psychology of a big man, little man match. Good for them, but good for him too – Faith wants his matches with these kids to look as good as they can for his own pride’s sake, I suspect.

One thing I could say, as I looked around the backstage area, was that there was no longer the lingering stench of Scott Sinclair in the air. Sinclair – AKA Big Smack Scott – had been a potential headliner who oozed charisma and the X factor, but a pathologically bad attitude and a drug problem that had survived a string of run-ins with head office had cut his career off at the knees. Seeing one of their own given his walking papers had caused a dip in morale backstage among a few workers – but then, having Sinclair backstage had caused a dip in morale among many, many more. Whatever his influence on the locker room, it had faded into the past now, and the locker room was a perfectly happy place.

One person who was so happy he was practically floating was Spencer Spade. He wasn’t on the show tonight. Even so, there he was, showing a couple of our recent signings around, acting like a backstage leader. Spade is going to go far: Just a few months into his career, he hasn’t missed a pay-per-view and has had some great matches. He’s also been taken under the wing of none other than Rich Money, which won’t do his career any harm at all. In fact, we threw Spade out against Money a few weeks ago almost on a whim – the result was the match of Spade’s nascent career, not surprisingly. Having our brightest prospect and our MVP getting on so well does no-one’s career any harm. And because he’s brought his gear with him, he’s getting into a dark match as a bonus.

Davis Wayne Newton, KC Glenn, Héroe, Antonio Maxi Marquez, Amazing Fire Fly... The quintet followed Spade through the backstage area, being introduced to as many people as Spade could manage. Héroe and Fly looked wide-eyed at the scale of events – hundreds of people are needed to make Supreme TV happen, and neither man had really experienced anything on this scale before.

Newton and Glenn were more taken with the Supreme stars – Bruce, Vengeance, Faith, Remo and so on. These kids have grown up watching their fellow roster members, and if it’s a long time before they’ll be crossing swords with them on a regular basis, equally it’s a long time they’ll be sharing the same locker room – kayfabe breaking moment there: personal locker rooms are very rare in the SWF – so they need to get over the initial starry-eyed response.

As for Antonio Marquez, he’s used to being the biggest star around. He’s been in big locker rooms, and been involved in big productions. If anything, he looks a little surprised that he’s being treated much the same as anyone else. There’re even a few members of the roster looking a little annoyed at Spade trying to introduce everyone all at the same time.

Steve Flash is conducting himself with a little more gravitas. A veteran of locker rooms throughout the country, and essentially unfazable, ‘Wrestling’ was chatting to Tom Gilmore about mutual friends. Flash knows how to fit in anywhere, and it was only a few minutes before he excused himself from Gilmore, walked over to Spade, and after a few words began handing off the newcomers to other established roster members – Marquez to the Bumfholes, Fly to John Greed and so on.

Runaway Train... well, it’s never easy to know what Train is thinking. He’s out of the main event, and that’s not a bad thing. He’s a capable enough power wrestler, but it’s become more and more obvious in the last year that the man is well past his best, and the grey hair that’s spreading almost visibly doesn’t help matters. I don’t think I’ve spoken more than a half-dozen words to him since I moved into my current role, and he’s probably spoken about as many on TV since then, too. His role is to teach Swoop McCarthy, and McCarthy is coming along nicely... but I have no idea how much of that is Train’s doing. Literally none – Swoop would be a star regardless, so whether teaming with Train is helping or hindering him I can’t tell. Train doesn’t say much backstage, doesn’t really complain, doesn’t really help out... He’s maybe the most insular man I know. Still, he remains probably our most intimidating single wrestler, although the new kid Primus has his eye on that spot, I think...

As for Swoop, well, the Aussie found a karaoke machine earlier today. I don’t know where – best to not ask, sometimes. He’s been getting people up and singing all day long. The kid does that a lot, helping people feel at ease. I don’t think it’s him trying to impress anyone, it’s just his way. Makes it more impressive, really.

So far we’ve had Christian Faith doing Tina Turner’s
The Best
to get things going, Runaway Train doing
Runaway Train
because, well, Train, Ana Garcia being coaxed into performing
The Jackal
, which had every man in the room walking funny, and a host of other workers butchering or belting out their favourites. By popular acclaim, Swoop’s medley of
The Power Of Love
,
Land Down Under
,
The Power Of Love
,
Circle Of Life
and
The Power Of Love
was the runaway smash of the night, if only for the verve in which he attacked Jennifer Rush’s lyrics.

But everyone and everything came to a halt when the champ walked in the room, as all eyes turned to him. Rich Money has that superstar quality, that instant charisma... and that ten pounds of gold that makes him a target, on-screen and off. He’s got the night off tonight – we’ve pushed him and Faith hard in the last month, and neither has a match on the show – but he’s here, he’s ready to go, he’s the very image of a champion, and he looks like he’s ready to hold onto the gold for a long, long time to come, no matter how many hungry pairs of eyes lock onto the title draped over his shoulder.

Money’s kind of arrogant – it carries over into his on-screen character. It’s not a bad kind of arrogance, it’s more the supreme confidence in his ability that the best of the best has. Money’s that good, he really is. Eisen may have had the belt, Bruce may have been the Man Under Pressure, Faith may be the Supreme Legend, but the SWF for the last two years has been riding on the back of Hard Cash.

As the ten minute pre-show warning sounded, and Spade grabbed Greg Black to talk over their imminent match, I looked around the locker room. Some of the world’s best wrestlers were here – a lot of them, really. Some were underappreciated, some were on the verge of breaking out, some were already at the top...

All of them were ready to go.

SWF Supreme TV Preview

In the wake of Let The Games Begin the Supreme fans have been hotly debating a number of matters arising from the latest pay-per-view: Will Brent Hill live up to the promise of his impressive debut? Has Eric Eisen knocked some sense into Eddie Cornell? When will the Amazing Bumfholes take their rematch against the Wall of Muscle? Will Jack Bruce be looking for revenge against Troy Tornado? Will Jack Giedroyc’s victim/attacker make an appearance? Who was the woman who intervened in the Vixxens’ title match? Has Hannah become even hotter in her time away from SWF?

We seem likely to get an answer to some of these questions this Tuesday night, but one question that we weren’t expecting to ask was this: Who’ll be the number one contender to the World title?

We here at SWF.com fully expected Christian Faith to stake his claim to a rematch against Rich Money in the coming weeks, but the outgoing World champion had this to say: “I’ve had one last run with the title, and it’s time to move on. I went toe-to-toe with the best wrestler in the world – and I lost. I have no excuses, on the night I wasn’t good enough. It’s time for me to step back, really, and concentrate on the role I’ve wanted for some time now – acting as an advisor, mentor and opponent to the new generation of talent coming through the ranks. I won’t seek a sixth World title reign – being the record holder is a huge honour, but my priorities have changed now. It’s time to give back, while I still have something to give.”

In response to Faith’s surprise, Mr Tyler then made the following announcement: “Starting this Tuesday on Supreme TV we’ll be having a sixteen man tournament featuring some of our finest competitors. I’ve had a lot of requests, demands and threats from competitors who want that title shot. I could pick someone, or I could let Money pick someone, but it’s good business to make sure that the person fighting for the title deserves that shot. If they win the tournament, they’ll deserve it – four wins in four weeks is a compelling argument.”

The brackets include all of the top names in the SWF with the notable exceptions of Gregory Black, Brent Hill and Remo. Black and Hill have promised to comment on their absence from the tournament on this week’s show. Remo couldn’t be reached for comment.

World champion Rich Money declined to comment on the news.

Also on the show we’ll be hearing from the new SWF World Tag Team champions, the Wall of Muscle. With Runaway Train involved in the tournament, Brandon James minders could have even more to celebrate – unlike their victims the Amazing Bumfholes, who have been medically disqualified from competing as a result of the beating they took on Thursday night.

Be sure to tune in to CBA this Tuesday night to find out who’ll be progressing in the tournament and all the other drama that you only get from the SWF, only on Supreme TV!

I have been interested for this diary for sometime now and though I haven´t commented or been a regular reader I still readed some of the shows and liked those so now seems to be good time to jump in. That said I don´t really have a good idea how everyone is doing so my picks are likely way of and based more on my personal opinions than what has happened in the diary.

Round 1: #1 Jack Bruce vs. #16 Squeeky McClean

Hard to see Bruce losing here.

Round 1: #9 Aaron Andrews vs. #8 Vengeance

Vengeance might not have the best win/loss record but I still expect him to get in a second round.

Round 1: #5 Steve Frehley vs. #12 Frederique Garcia

Some surprises need to happen and this looks like a possible spot for that.

Round 1: #14 Robbie Retro vs. #3 Brandon James

Some surprised will likely happen but I doubt that James would be eliminated so early.

Round 1: #11 Chris Morrisette vs. #6 Rocky Golden

Like I said some surprises will happen and on the top 8 Golden just looks the most vulnarable to me even though I´m not entairly convinced on Morrisette having what it takes to get to the next round.

Round 1: #7 Angry Gilmore vs. #10 Runaway Train

Train is past his prime and has tag team going on so no need for him to go over here.

Round 1: #15 Kurt Laramee vs. #2 Troy Tornado

Laramee just isn´t big enough name.

Round 1: #13 Jake Marlowe vs. #4 Eric Eisen

Eisen might not be the most talented guy but he should still get past Marlowe.

Round 1: #1 Jack Bruce vs. #16 Squeeky McClean

Whilst Squeeky is a solid talent, Bruce is at the top of the back and should beat McClean

Round 1: #9 Aaron Andrews vs. #8 Vengeance

Vengeance is a destroyer!

Round 1: #5 Steve Frehley vs. #12 Frederique Garcia

Not a fan of Garcia

Round 1: #14 Robbie Retro vs. #3 Brandon James

I am fond of Retro however

Round 1: #11 Chris Morrisette vs. #6 Rocky Golden

The mild upset of the opening round

Round 1: #7 Angry Gilmore vs. #10 Runaway Train

Gilmore is the more established singles star

Round 1: #15 Kurt Laramee vs. #2 Troy Tornado

Troy and Bruce will likely meet in the tournament at some stage

Round 1: #13 Jake Marlowe vs. #4 Eric Eisen

Nepotism rules!
