<p>1st Round of US Title Tournament: The Renegade vs. <strong>Meng</strong></p><p>

<em>Meng has wins over Benoit and Hawk lately so I don´t see him losing to Renegade.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jim Duggan</strong> vs. Scott Norton</p><p>

<em>I´m still little unsure about where Norton stands in terms of push and I´m not convinced on Duggan either so this is pretty much a coin flip to me. I go with Duggan based on the fact that he have had more TV time so far.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The American Males vs.<strong> Paul Orndorff and One Man Gang</strong></p><p>

<em>Orndorff and Gang has more wins under their belt so I go with them.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Johnny B. Badd</strong> vs. Chris Kanyon </p><p>

<em>I gave Kanyon a shot and he failed so now he has to show me that he can win before I give him another shot.</em></p>

Saturday Night gets underway with a recap video of all the action on Monday Nitro surrounding </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Ric Flair</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> surrendering the United States Championship back to the Championship Committee, who is now represented by </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Dusty Rhodes</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">. These two teams have met once before, with Mr. Wonderful and One Man Gang coming out on top. Bagwell and Riggs lost at Halloween Havoc and are trying to get things back in their favor in this match. Orndorff and The Gang started to show that after weeks of teaming together they are showing some very good teamwork. They worked over Scotty Riggs for a long time, and One Man Gang looked like he was getting tons of amusement out of throwing Riggs around like a ragdoll. Bagwell wasn’t going to stand by and let this happen though, and he got a tag in and cleaned house. He even got the Gang over the top rope with a clothesline. This left him alone with Orndorff, and Bagwell used his athleticism to gain the advantage, then finished it off with the </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Yellow Jacket Suplex</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">

Johnny B. Badd had a great opportunity as he got to face Brian Pillman in the first round of the United States Championship tournament, but he was unable to get the job done, and now he is looking to work his way back up the ladder in WCW the hard way. These two had a match a couple of weeks ago where Kanyon showed some impressive offense, but wasn’t able to get the victory. In this rematch Badd was more prepared for the game of Kanyon and took it to him early and often. The finish came when Badd hit the </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Tutti Frutti</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> on Kanyon to pick up his second victory over the young grappler.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">

A video plays showing the ending to the main event match on Nitro where the </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Four Horsemen</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> delivered the victory and future title match to </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Ric Flair</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> at Nitro. It then shows the Horsemen with a beatdown on </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Savage</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> after the match until he was rescued by </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Sting</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">, a man with huge problems with The Four Horsemen. Sting cleared house and handed </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Tully Blanchard</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> a huge chair shot before Flair and company headed towards the back, knowing that Sting will not rest until he gets a shot at every one of the Horsemen.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">

Hacksaw and Flash are two very big and strong competitors that aren’t known for their wrestling ability, they are pure brawlers and it showed in this contest. There was not a jockeying for position at the beginning of the match, Duggan and Norton went straight into hammering away on each other, and it became obvious that the winner of this match would be who could take the most damage and keep going. There were flurries of rights from both men, and they tried to bowl the other over, but neither man would go down. Eventually it turned into a brawl that spilled out of the ring, then it got ugly. The referee tried to regain control and get the two men in the ring, but they refused as they fought up the entrance ramp. Eventually the </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>referee counted to ten</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> as Duggan and Norton kept on fighting.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">

The Renegade vs. Meng</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">

This match featured two wild men in the ring, and it was odd as Meng was the controlled one as The Renegade stormed right at Meng. He looked very good as his wild offensive maneuvers were connecting, sending Meng down to the mat time and time again. He tried finishing it early with a Gorilla Press against Meng, but Meng squirmed his way back down to the mat, then planted Renegade with a super kick. Renegade tried to work his way back up to his feet, but Meng was waiting for him and locked in the </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Tongan Death Grip</strong></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">. This move brought Renegade down to the mat, and he tried fighting out of it, but the life was eventually choked out of him by this devastating move, and the referee called for the bell.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">

WCW Nitro is jam packed with action this week. There promises to be action from start to finish, the only question is how WCW is going to fit everything in two hours. The main event of the evening features six of the biggest stars in professional wrestling. On one side number one contender to the World Title, Lex Luger will team with The Giant, and the man who is still to name the date of his title match he earned last week, Ric Flair. They will team against the trio of Randy Savage, Sting, and World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan. This six man match has tons of star power, and the fans are sure to go wild for this marquee main event.

Most of the action this week will be surrounding the now vacant United States Championship. There will be four first round matches, leaving only one match left in the first round, which will be contested on Saturday Night. The most exciting of these four matches will see Steve Austin return after missing a week due to the beating he took from the Four Horsemen. He will try to get revenge as he faces Tully Blanchard in his first match back in WCW. Will Austin be healed up and be able to move on in the championship tournament, or will Blanchard use his Four Horsemen connections to make sure he knocks Austin out of the tournament for good?

Two other rivals meet in a first round match tonight, as Jim Duggan and Big Bubba Rogers will meet in a rematch of their recent series of matches. Both men have looked very impressive against each other, and you can bet this slugfest will be highly entertaining. The other two matches in the tournament on tonight's show feature Dean Malenko facing Arn Anderson, and Chris Benoit and VK Wallstreet doing battle.

Speaking of Chris Benoit, he's been on the bad end of a few matches lately, and his partner and mentor Road Warrior Hawk is starting to get irritated. Hawk is trying to give Benoit pointers, but each week he gets blindsided by someone with cheap tactics, costing himself and Hawk matches. Hawk has taken it upon himself to show Benoit how it's done, and he'll try to make a statement for his team as he takes on one half of the Tag Team Champions, Booker T.

This Nitro is going to be must-see from start to finish, you don't want to miss a second. Plus, with World War 3 right around the corner, it's a safe bet we'll hear from some of the competitors in the 60 man battle royal. Be sure to tell your friends that WCW Monday Nitro is the show to be watching nowadays.

Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting vs. Lex Luger, Ric Flair, The Giant

As much as I love heels looking strong - especially when Ric Flair is one of them - I can't see this going their way. Either that, or else we'll have a good old Four Horsemen run-in and beatdown to draw a DQ.

Road Warrior Hawk vs. Booker T

Hawk "showing Benoit how it's done" will either give the team more unity or drive some jealousy into the mix. Either way, I'm for it.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Steve Austin vs. Tully Blanchard

I really don't expect to see Tully grabbing many wins...

US Title Tournament Round 1: Chris Benoit vs. VK Wallstreet

I choose Benoit here simply because I picked heels to win these next two matches, so two faces taking the others seems balanced.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Jim Duggan vs. Big Bubba Rogers

Duggan's role in the tournament is simply to move someone else ahead.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Dean Malenko vs. Arn Anderson

Some solid Horsemen involvement in the tournament picture is a good thing. Should be a damn fine match rating, too.

Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting vs. Lex Luger, Ric Flair, The Giant

Pretty big match here. I think this actually favors faces since it´s unlikely that three heels who all want to get the title are able to co-exist, but on the other hand this is a perfect opportunity to give them win over Hogan so I go with heels winning via cheating/interference

Road Warrior Hawk vs. Booker T

Interesting to see where this one will go but win over Booker could mean a title shot later on so I go with Hawk.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Steve Austin vs. Tully Blanchard

Austin is the rising star from these two so I go with him.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Chris Benoit vs. VK Wallstreet

Could go either way but I have more faith on Benoit.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Jim Duggan vs. Big Bubba Rogers

Could go either way. Rogers have been slighly more impressive so far but since winner is facing Meng next round (or at least that´s what I think) Duggan seems as more likely winner here.

US Title Tournament Round 1: Dean Malenko vs. Arn Anderson

Will be a nice match but I´d see Anderson going forward as Malenko has other things to do, as he seems to be feuding with DDP.

WCW Monday Nitro

Monday, November Week 2, 1995

Live from the Asheville Civic Center in Asheville, North Carolina

Attendance: 10,000 (Sellout!)

Monday Nitro gets off to an explosive start with a great pyrotechnics display as the fans are cheering at a deafening level. Just when the excitement level starts to tone down a bit the fans are shot right back up to their feet by the familiar music of the former World Champion, Sting. The Stinger makes his way out to the ring, and he stops and acknowledges his fans at ringside before he steps into the ring, let’s out a loud yell which the fans answer back with, then Stinger begins to address the actions of the last couple of weeks.

Sting

So the Four Horsemen are back together I hear. I know how Flair and his cronies operate, and I can tell you that it means bad things for everybody in WCW if they are allowed free reign to do whatever they want. Last week they tried to take down my good friend Randy Savage, but that’s not happening under my watch. Flair, you pulled one over on me when you took the United States Championship from me, then treated it with no respect. I’m glad you pawned the title off for a World Title match though, because not only does that prestigious title deserve someone much better than you, I’m confident that whoever you face for the World Title will beat you into a pulp. My only regret is that it doesn’t look like I will be able to be the man to give you that beating. But don’t fool yourself Ric, I’m going to get my revenge on you. Tonight I get a shot at you in the tag team main event, and Ric, no amount of goons will be able to save you from what I’ve got planned for you!

United States Championship Tournament

Round One

Dean Malenko vs. Arn Anderson

Anderson had a decided size advantage over Dean Malenko, but Malenko came into the match thinking that he had what it takes to move onto the second round of the tournament. He showed some impressive amateur wrestling ability as he was locking The Enforcer up like a pretzel and looked like he was giving Anderson fits. Much of the match featured Malenko getting Anderson in complicated holds, and Anderson barely getting out of them and becoming very irritated with how things were going. While Malenko was getting in a lot of moves, none of them really did considerable damage to Anderson. Things took a turn as Anderson started getting in some very heavy right hands, and Malenko was slowed down considerably. The finish came when Malenko tried charging Anderson but was met with a thunderous spinebuster.

Winner: Arn Anderson

Time: 11:10

Rating: B-

The camera goes to the backstage area, where Road Warrior Hawk and Chris Benoit are talking in a hallway, when Harlem Heat walked up and bumped Benoit out of their way.

Road Warrior Hawk

You two walk around here like you own the place now that you are champions. What you need is someone to put you in your place. Tonight Booker, I’m going to beat you in the middle of the ring.

Booker T

Yeah right man, you are old news Hawk. Harlem Heat is the best team in wrestling now, and I’ll show you why in our match tonight.

Road Warrior Hawk

If you are so confident how about a wager? If you win then I’ll admit that you two are the best team in wrestling. If I win then you give me and Chris a Tag Team Title match at World War 3. Whaddya say Booker? I’d understand if you are scared.

Booker T

Scared?!? I’m not scared of anything, especially not you sucka! You are on. Tonight you will see that Harlem Heat is better than the Road Warriors ever were or will ever be!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes to a new area backstage, where Mean Gene Okerlund is standing by with one of the participants in the battle royal at World War 3 for a World Title shot at Clash of the Champions in January, Meng.

Gene Okerlund

In less than two weeks WCW will unveil the biggest battle royal in the history of professional wrestling, World War 3. I’m here with Meng, who will be a part of the battle royal, hoping to earn a World Title match at the redesigned Clash of the Champions in January. Meng, what makes you think that you will outlast 59 other men to earn a title shot for yourself.

Meng looks at Okerlund, then notices somebody walking by them. Meng quickly superkicks this man, dropping him right where he stood. Meng then dragged him like a rag doll over to a table where drinks were set up for the wrestlers. Meng hoisted the man up and quickly slammed him through the table, then grunted as if to tell Gene that he just gave him his answer. Mean Gene looked very uncomfortable as he sent it back to ringside to Eric Bischoff and Bobby Heenan.

United States Championship Tournament

Round One

Jim Duggan vs. Big Bubba Rogers

These two men have developed quite the history over the past few months, and every time they meet it turns into a slugfest. This match was no different as the two tough as nails competitors tried to hit each other with everything they had, but Big Bubba was coming out on top as he wasn’t afraid to slip in some very questionable tactics. It looked to be over as Rogers hit the Sidewalk Slam on Duggan, but Hacksaw got his foot under the ropes before the three count. Rogers was enraged, then forced Duggan into the corner, trying for an avalanche. Duggan got his feet up and kicked him in the chest, sending Rogers staggering back. Duggan then got up to the second rope, and when Rogers charged again Duggan hurled himself off the second rope and delivered a huge shoulder block to Rogers and got the three count.

Winner: Jim Duggan

Time: 8:43

Rating: C+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes backstage to the trio that will team in tonight’s main event, Ric Flair, The Giant, and the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Champion, Lex Luger. The trio is circled around, and Flair begins to talk to the two men who will be on his side against the team of Hulk Hogan, Sting and Randy Savage.

Ric Flair

I know the three of us aren’t the best of friends, but there’s three reasons for us to get on the same page and do some damage tonight. Hulk Hogan, Sting, Randy Savage, three men that all of us hate with every fiber of our being. They stand for all that is wrong in WCW. They claim that they are here to help WCW grow as a company, but they are more selfish than any of us. They’ll do anything to make sure that WCW remains under their control, even if it means holding people like us down. Well we’re not going to take it anymore. Giant, I saw you take Macho Man out at Halloween Havoc, and Lex, I’m sure you’ll finish off Hulkamania inside the cage. But for now, we have to stick together to get rid of these three evils!

Road Warrior Hawk vs. Booker T w/ Stevie Ray and Sister Sherri

Hawk was flying solo in this match as Benoit prepared for his big United States tournament match, while Booker T had plenty of backup. This served him well as everytime Hawk would start to pound away on him either Stevie Ray or Sherri would cause a distraction that would let Booker T slip back into the match. Booker showed great athleticism as he was looking very impressive against the much more experienced Road Warrior Hawk. Hawk was fighting back very hard, wanting a tag team title match for he and Benoit, but it looked like Booker T would be too much as he went for the Axe Kick. Hawk was able to see Booker coming though and avoided it, then powerslammed him. Hawk quickly went up top, then flew off the top rope and nailed Booker with a Flying Clothesline, earning the three count and a title match for his team.

The camera goes back to Mean Gene Okerlund in the backstage area, where he is standing by with The Giant, another participant in the World War 3 sixty man, three ring battle royal.

Gene Okerlund

I asked this question earlier to Meng, Giant, why do you think that you are going to go into World War 3 and walk out with a World Championship match at Clash of the Champions in January?

The Giant

Gene! Everybody knows that my father, Andre the Giant was the best battle royal competitor in the history of professional wrestling. His size wasn’t the only thing I got from him, I also inherited his dominating power and iron will. I will throw every person that gets in my way into the middle of the crowd.

Gene Okerlund

Really Giant, the middle of the crowd?

The Giant

Are you doubting me Gene?!? Watch this!

The Giant angrily walked over to a huge crate, gave it a huge push and forced the obviously heavy piece of hardware over on it’s side as Okerlund looked on, once against stunned.

United States Championship Tournament

Round One

Chris Benoit vs. VK Wallstreet

This match featured two of the better technical wrestlers in WCW, and it showed as they both worked to gain leverage, but Benoit’s weakness came to bite him as Wallstreet was able to play a dirty game and Benoit wasn’t expecting it, or had no defense to it. Hawk has been trying to educate his teammate on this, and after Wallstreet started to work Benoit over it seemed to click in a little bit. Benoit started to fight back against Wallstreet and was giving him a taste of his own medicine, culminated with a huge German suplex. Wallstreet staggered to his feet and tried to fight back, but he missed on a huge roundhouse punch, allowing Benoit to get in close and hit a Northern Lights Suplex to get the three count and move onto the next round of the tournament.

The camera goes backstage where Dusty Rhodes is talking to someone in his office when Steve Austin storms into the room, prompting Dusty to ask the other person to give the two a second.

Dusty Rhodes

Welcome back Steve, hope you are feeling better. What can I do for you?

Steve Austin

Dusty, you know what the Horsemen being back together means. Nobody is going to get a fair match against any of those four men any time soon. And that kind of ticks me off because I have to face Tully Blanchard in the tournament next. I’m not worried about what they are going to do to me, I was the first person to take a beating from them when they came back, I’m worried about what I’ll do to Brian Pillman if he sticks his nose in my business. Dusty, I just came here to tell you that if I get my hands on Brian Pillman, I won’t be held accountable for what happens to him.

United States Championship Tournament

Round One

Steve Austin vs. Tully Blanchard

Blanchard came out for this match by himself, and Austin almost seemed upset by this, he really wanted to get his hands on Brian Pillman tonight. The match started with Austin stalking Blanchard around the ring, but Tully is a very smart wrestler and he went right after the knees of Austin, which is a known weak point of his. Blanchard stomped away on the right knee of his opponent, then went for the Figure Four, but Austin showed a great will by not giving up, and working to turn the hold over on the member of the Four Horsemen. Austin started fighting back against Blanchard, and almost on cue Brian Pillman came sprinting from the back to try to turn the tide. Austin was going like a house of fire by this point, and when Pillman entered the ring Austin spun around and glared at him. Pillman quickly hit the mat and rolled back out, not wanting any piece of that action. When Austin turned back to Blanchard he was met by an attempted right hand from Tully, but he blocked it, then hit the Stunner out of nowhere to get the victory and move on to the next round. He then quickly exited the ring and chased Pillman all the way to the back.

The camera goes backstage, where Sting, Randy Savage and the World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan are huddled up outside of the entrance area. Much like Ric Flair did for his team, Hulk Hogan stepped up and made a speech to the two men who will be teaming with him in the upcoming match.

Hulk Hogan

OK brothers, tonight we have a huge match, we all need some steam heading into World War 3 in a couple of weeks. I’m going to taking on Lex Luger in a steel cage, and you two are going to be in that monster battle royal. Tonight is a chance for us to go out there and give all our fans what they want, us to put a stop to these out of control dudes. Ric Flair says he’s the best in the world, and I’m sure you want to prove to him that he can’t beat you without cheating Stinger, and Macho Man, I know you want some payback on The Giant. I’m going to make the most of this chance to really soften Lex up before our title match, then at World War 3 he’s going down once and for all! But tonight, they stand no chance against the greatest trio to ever step foot in a wrestling ring!

Hulk Hogan, Sting and Randy Savage vs. Lex Luger, Ric Flair and The Giant

This match featured six of the biggest stars in WCW all in one ring, and the place was almost exploding with anticipation to see what would happen. Things looked like they would spill out of control from the beginning as Hogan and Luger matched off, Sting and Flair matched off, and Savage and The Giant matched off, and three separate brawls broke out around the ring and at ringside. The referee used his discretion to let the match continue and to let the stars battle it out. Hogan was able to take Luger down to the floor, as had Sting and Savage to their opponents. The three stood in the ring looking triumphant as Luger, Flair and The Giant huddled up and came up with a plan. The match got back under control as The Giant entered the ring and was met by Sting. The Stinger pounded away on the huge man, but it didn’t really have much effect as he threw Sting towards the corner. Sting then tagged in Savage, and the same thing happened to him. Hogan then went after the Giant, and looked to be having success until The Giant leveled him with a headbutt, but only got a two count.

The Giant’s team started working over Hogan, giving the World Champion a tremendous beating as they made frequent tags. Lex Luger looked to be getting a ton of satisfaction from pounding away on the man he will challenge at World War 3. Hogan has his uncanny second wind though, and it hit, and he cleaned house before tagging in Sting, who gave Stinger Splashes to all three men in separate corners. Sting then tagged in Savage, as he and Ric Flair were the legal men. Savage level Flair with a huge axe handle, then headed towards the top. The Giant was expecting this though and bounded into the ring, as did Sting. The Giant got to Savage and grabbed him by the throat on the top turnbuckle, but Savage kicked him away, then Sting sacrificed himself and clotheslined The Giant to the floor. Hulk Hogan took advantage of the referee watching this and hit the Big Legdrop on Flair, which gave Savage time to reperch, then fly off the top rope and deliver the Flying Elbow Drop into the heart of Flair, and he got the three count over Flair in this gigantic match.

The first round of the United States Championship is coming to a close, and tonight's main event will feature the final first round match. Steve Austin, who won his first round match on Nitro will be awaiting the winner of tonight's Alex Wright vs. Lord Steven Regal match. These two European stars are looking to take one step closer to bringing the prestigious championship back across the pond.

A great tag team match is also on the slate as former World Tag Team Champions, The Nasty Boys will face off against the team of Paul Orndorff and the One Man Gang. The Nasty's have defeated this team before, but Mr. Wonderful and The Gang have experience on their side and will try to stop this from happening again. The remaining two matches will see Television Champion Diamond Dallas Page in non-title action as he faces Scott Armstrong. In the opening bout former Tag Team Champion, and one-half of the American Males, Scotty Riggs will face newcomer Chris Kanyon, who is looking for his first victory in WCW.

1st Round of US Title Tournament: Alex Wright vs. Lord Steven Regal

Sry, I just refuse to give one to the Nastys.

Scott Armstrong vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Easy little squash.

Scotty Riggs vs. Chris Kanyon

I'm just guessing Kanyon probably isn't ready JUST yet, but maybe in a few weeks? That is unless you've been using him in dark segments a lot and not telling us that.

WCW Saturday Night

Saturday, November Week 2, 1995

Taped at Disney MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida

Attendance: 1,000 (Sellout!)

A video recap plays from Monday Nitro. It shows the four first round matchups for the United States Championship, then the huge six man tag team main event. The emphasis was on Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger, who will meet in a steel cage in a little over a week in the main event of World War 3. It then announces that at Monday Nitro next week the two will be picking each other’s opponents for their final match before their epic encounter.

Scotty Riggs vs. Chris Kanyon

While Kanyon hasn’t won a match since joining WCW, he has looked impressive nonetheless. The fans seem to react to his innovative offense, but he’s yet to find the move to put his opponent down for the three count. That continued in this match as he dominated Riggs for a number of the opening minutes, but his inexperience shined through as he allowed Riggs to get back in it and get rolling. Kanyon had one chance to put the match away, but Riggs got out of it and hit a Fisherman’s Suplex to get the victory.

Scott Armstrong vs. Diamond Dallas Page w/ Diamond Doll

Page’s Television Championship isn’t up for grabs in this match, but Scott Armstrong was looking to make a statement against a title holder anyways. If Armstrong had any fans in the crowd, they were going to be let down because DDP was all over Armstrong here, and if anything he was just toying with him while he waited for the right time to strike with the Diamond Cutter. The time came when Armstrong had Page in a waistlock, then DDP struck like a snake with the Diamond Cutter and the referee could have counted to ten.

In just a bit over a week DDP is going to strike it rich…well richer that I already have. World War 3 is coming up, and the winner gets a World Heavyweight Championship match at Clash of the Champions in January. I was bitter about not getting in the United States Championship tournament, but I was told it was because I already have a belt. They told me they won’t hold me out of the battle royal though, so you 59 guys that are going to be in those three rings, you are all in big trouble. Diamond Dallas Page is the fastest rising star in WCW, and I’m coming for the World Championship!

The Nasty Boys vs. Paul Orndorff and One Man Gang

These two teams both have been pretty impressive as of late, but the Nasty’s would seem to have the upper hand as they defeated the team of Mr. Wonderful and One Man Gang last month. The referee had his hands full with this match as none of the four men really follow the rules all that closely. When the camera would zoom in on simple headlocks they would always find that somebody was doing something outside of the rules. Paul Orndorff was able to use this bending of the rules to his advantage most as he hit a low blow on Jerry Sags, then hit him with a pildriver. He quickly tagged in One Man Gang, who hit the 747 Splash to get the pinfall.

Lord Steven Regal makes his way down to the ring for his huge first round tournament match for the United States Championship. Before Alex Wright can make it down to the ring Regal decides that he has something to say.

Lord Steven Regal

You are all about to witness the finest wrestler in the WCW give you an exhibition on what professional wrestling should be all about. There is not a man on the roster who can match my technical prowess in the ring. I was trained by the best wrestlers that England has ever produced, and using everything I have learned under them I plan on not only becoming the United States Champion during this tournament, but I’m going to outsmart and outwrestle 59 other men at World War 3 to become the World Heavyweight Champion!

Round One

Alex Wright vs. Lord Steven Regal

These two great European wrestlers started with a great show of what European wrestling is all about as they fought for position then brought the other man down to the mat to try to take advantage. The majority of the first several minutes were fought on the mat, and it was clear that Regal had a great advantage here. Regal looked very confident as he twisted the German native like a pretzel, but Wright knew he couldn’t keep going like this and brought the match up to a vertical level. Wright showed his world class dropkicks on Regal, who wasn’t looking as confident at this point. Wright tried several times to hit his bridging German suplex, but Regal would find a counterhold every time to make sure he wasn’t pinned down to the mat. Wright went for another dropkick, Regal was able to sidestep it though and went to work on Wright’s leg. This was a great strategy as it kept Wright down, and allowed Regal to eventually lock in the Regal Stretch, which made it impossible for Wright to go on as he quit.

This Sunday WCW brings you the first pay-per-view of it's kind, World War 3. 60 men will compete in a three ring battle royal for a World Title match at Clash of the Champions in a few months time. But WCW stops at Monday Nitro for a final time before the big event, and the United States Championship tournament is kicking into high gear as the finals approach in less than a week. On Nitro all four quarterfinal matches will take place, with the winners squaring off on Saturday Night for the right to make it to the finals of this tournament.

The four quarter final matches will be: Eddy Guerrero vs. Brian Pillman, Chris Benoit vs. Arn Anderson, Jim Duggan vs. Meng, and Steve Austin vs. Lord Steven Regal. All four of these matches pop out for a number of reasons. Guerrero vs. Pillman is a rematch of the first ever match on Monday Nitro, but both men have come a long way since then. Guerrero has been through a number of battles, while Pillman has found a home with the Four Horsemen. Chris Benoit and Arn Anderson features youth vs. experience. Benoit is looking to put a trademark moment in his young career, while Arn Anderson is looking to show that he still has what it takes to be a singles competitor. Jim Duggan vs. Meng figures to be a hard hitting battle between two of the best brawlers in the business, and Steve Austin vs. Lord Steven Regal will showcase two of the smartest minds in professional wrestling today trying to out think each other for a chance at the United States Championship.

The tournament isn't the only thing going on during Nitro though, Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger will be picking each other's opponents days before their showdown inside the steel cage at World War 3 for the World Heavyweight Championship. News has leaked that Hulk Hogan will be facing The Giant, while Lex Luger will be facing Randy Savage in the main event of the evening. The Giant has wanted to get his hands on Hulk Hogan to avenge his father for some time, and now he has the chance to do so. On the other hand, Lex Luger will try to overcome the challenge of the Macho Man to prove to the world that he belongs in the same ring as the World Champion in the main event of the pay-per-view.

Randy Savage vs. Lex Luger

Luger is the one who will be in the main event title match so he needs the win more.

Hulk Hogan vs. The Giant

Hogan isn´t likely to lose this one but I doubt that he would get a clean win either so either a draw or count out/dq victory seems most likely outcome. I go with DQ win for Hogan as that allows both guys to look dangerous and sets up another match on the future..

US Title Tournament Round 2: Eddy Guerrero vs. Brian Pillman

I could see this one going either way but since I picked Anderson to advance in next match, Guerro seems more likely choice here.

US Title Tournament Round 2: Chris Benoit vs. Arn Anderson

Benoit still seems to be slighly green and he has that storyline with Hawk going so Anderson picks up the win.

US Title Tournament Round 2: Jim Duggan vs. Meng

I don´t see Duggan getting past second round so Meng advances here.

US Title Tournament Round 2: Steve Austin vs. Lord Steven Regal

Austin has been doing more.

Just because Luger is getting the title shot at WW3.

I'm calling no contest. This is way too big a feud to just give out a decisive win on Nitro, which is why its also perfect for the time that you're throwing the match out on Nitro.

US Title Tournament Round 2: Jim Duggan vs. Meng

US Title Tournament Round 2: Steve Austin vs. Lord Steven Regal

I'm going out on a limb to predict that the Blondes will knock one another out of the tournament, Arn will move on so that the Horsemen are continual threat of taking the title back, and Duggan only wins so that Regal can have a face to go against.

WCW Monday Nitro

Monday, November Week 3, 1995

Live from Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia

Attendance: 10,000 (Sellout!)

Nitro opens up with a video package. It shows the long rivalry between Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger ever since Luger returned to WCW in September. Luger has felt like he is the best wrestler in the world, not Hulk Hogan, and he has been hellbent on proving that fact. The video shows Luger’s betrayal of Hogan at War Games, including Jimmy Hart stabbing Hogan in the back. It then highlights their World Title match at Halloween Havoc, and hypes up their match coming up at World War 3 that will decide the World Heavyweight Championship inside the unforgiving steel cage. A huge pyro display then takes place as the fans get pumped up for this live Monday Nitro and the first quarterfinal United States Championship tournament match.

Quarterfinals

Jim Duggan vs. Meng

This match featured two men who always go all out and do anything they have to do to win. Duggan and Meng collided in the middle of the ring, and the fans knew they were going to have an old fashioned slugfest on their hands. The two men slugged away on each other, but it didn’t seem like either was being hurt, it just angered them and they kept slugging away on each other. Duggan realized that this was a stalemate and Meng wasn’t going to back down, so he bounced off the ropes and charged at Meng, who was ready for this and flattened Duggan with a super kick. Meng went to work on the neck of Duggan, stomping away and holding illegal choke holds for four seconds so he wouldn’t be disqualified. This softened Duggan up for the Tongan Death Grip, but he was able to fight it off and start to come back. His comeback was short lived though as Meng side stepped a shoulder block then the Tongan Death Grip found it’s mark, and Meng didn’t let it go until Duggan was out cold and the referee called for the bell.

The camera goes backstage where Sting and Randy Savage are having a conversation about the biggest battle royal in the history of professional wrestling at World War 3. 60 men will compete in 3 different rings, ultimately converging down to 1 ring when there is 30 men left. The winner will head to Clash of the Champions in January to face the World Heavyweight Champion, regardless of who holds the title at the time.

Sting

Mach, I just wanted to stop by and wish you luck against Lex Luger tonight. It’s no secret that Lex is my close personal friend, but that doesn’t mean that I agree with what he’s been doing the last few months. You can bet I’ll be watching your match very closely.

Randy Savage

Yeah! Lex Luger is going down tonight Stinger. He may be your friend, but he stabbed my best friend in the back and is trying to cheat him out of his World Championship. What I’m looking forward to is on Sunday night at World War 3, yeah. The Macho Man is going to outlast 59 other men and get a World Championship match! Stinger, you might be my friend, but if it comes down to it I’ll throw you over the top rope!

Sting

Trust me Randy, if it comes down to it I’ll be throwing you over the top rope. There’s nothing in this world that means more to me than the World Heavyweight Championship, and I don’t care who gets in my way on Sunday, they’ll be standing in the way of my dream, and they’ll be going over the top rope!

United States Championship Tournament

Quarterfinals

Eddy Guerrero vs. Brian Pillman

These two matched up in the first ever Monday Nitro, and Guerrero came up with the win then, and was looking to repeat history in this match. Much like the first time, things started out at a frantic pace, but Pillman has learned a lot since September, and joining the Four Horsemen. Pillman slowed the pace down, not caring that the fans were truly enjoying the great action between the two men. Guerrero was very effectively grounded by Pillman, and he smartly went to work on the legs, looking to take the Frog Splash out of the equation. Pillman looked to finish things off with a Figure Four that he likely learned from Ric Flair, but he hasn’t mastered the move as Guerrero got out of it pretty easily. Guerrero started turning the pace back up and laid Pillman out, then went up to the top rope. Pillman was ready though and attacked a perched Guerrero, then went to meet him with a superplex. Guerrero was able to block it though and he smashed Pillman’s head off one of his knees, then threw him back into the ring. Guerrero then took flight with the Frog Splash and connected squarely, three seconds later his ticket to the semifinals had been cashed.

Winner: Eddy Guerrero

Time: 12:12

Rating: B+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Eddy Guerrero was celebrating his victory, knowing that he is only one more win away from fighting for the United States Championship at World War 3. Before Guerrero could exit the ring he was attacked from behind, and Tully Blanchard was the culprit. He took Guerrero down very hard, then laid the boots to him, and an exhausted Guerrero didn’t have anything to fight back with. Tully then went over and woke Pillman up as the announcers hyped up the fact that The Horsemen were likely doing this because Guerrero is going on to fight the winner of the Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit match. The duo really put a hurting on Guerrero, making sure that if he was to face Anderson on Saturday Night, he wouldn’t have much to give him.

United States Championship Tournament

Quarterfinal Match

Steve Austin vs. Lord Steven Regal

This match saw Austin come right out of the gates and start slugging away at Regal, who is a very talented brawler in his own right. Regal realized that he wasn’t going to match Austin’s thunderous punches though and began to fight a defensive match, trying with all his might to stop the barrage and wrestle Austin down to the mat where he isn’t nearly as dangerous. It didn’t look like Regal was going to be able to do it as Austin was stomping a mudhole in him, but Regal’s talent eventually shined through and he was able to force Austin down. From there Regal went to work on the arm that put Austin out of action a few months ago. Regal showed that he is a brilliant tactician as Austin screamed out in pain as Regal stretched his arm like a pretzel. When Austin eventually got up to his feet he went to resume the beating, but his arm limited his offense and Regal was back on the attack. Regal started to look very confident, and he went for a big kick to the gut of Austin, but Austin caught Regal’s foot, spun him around and struck with the Stunner out of nowhere to get the victory, earning the right to face Meng on Saturday Night with a trip to the finals of the United States Championship tournament on the line.

The camera goes backstage, where Gene Okerlund is standing by with the man who has a World Title match coming up sometime in the next month and a half, Nature Boy Ric Flair.

Gene Okerlund

Ric, recently you won the United States Championship, reformed the Four Horsemen, then gave up the United States Championship for a shot at the World Title, which you get to pick the date of before the end of the year. Any ideas on when you are going to cash in that right?

Ric Flair

I know exactly when I’m going to be having my championship match Gene, but that’s for me and the Horsemen to know. It could be on Nitro next week after Hogan or Luger are softened up in the steel cage, it could be at Starrcade, nobody knows but the four most powerful men in professional wrestling today. Only one thing is for sure Gene, no matter who the World Champion is, they will fall at the feet of the supreme being here in WCW, The Nature Boy Ric Flair! Wooooo!

United States Championship Tournament

Quarterfinal Match

Chris Benoit vs. Arn Anderson

This is the final quarterfinal match in the tournament, and the winner will go on to face Eddy Guerrero on Saturday Night. Chris Benoit fought very hardly in this match, and the announcers mentioned that if he wins tonight and Saturday, he will pull triple duty at World War 3 between the tournament, the tag team title match and the battle royal. This didn’t seem to worry him though as he looked very impressive as he had Anderson very flustered as the member of the Four Horsemen couldn’t get a hand on him. Benoit started rolling and taking Anderson down several times, and the crowd was fully behind him and enjoyed seeing Anderson completely taken out of his game like this. The tide changed though when Benoit had Anderson backed into a corner, then charged at him. Anderson seized the opportunity and subtly pulled the referee in harm’s way as Benoit crashed into him. With the ref down Benoit tried to stay on the attack, but Anderson was ready and nailed him with a low blow. Arn then pulled something out of his tights and it appeared to be a pair of brass knuckles. He forced Benoit up, then nailed him with the knucks, threw them out, then helped the referee up. It was obvious Benoit was on dream street, but Anderson got him up for good measure, then spiked him with a Spinebuster in front of the referee and got the three count.

The Giant and The Taskmaster make their way out for their upcoming huge match against the World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan. The Giant get loosened up for the biggest match of his very young career as The Taskmaster gets on the microphone to give the fans a piece of his mind.

The Taskmaster

The man standing before you is the most dominating force professional wrestling has seen since his own father, Andre the Giant. The Giant will avenge the death of his father here tonight, and you will all bear witness to it. After The Giant makes Hulk Hogan pay for the way that he treated his father before he died, he will be heading to World War 3. Let me warn the other 58 men in that battle royal, we will not be responsible for the injuries you will sustain if you step in the path of us. I am willing to help my Giant all the way to the finish, then he will succeed where I failed. He will win the battle royal, then at Clash of the Champions he will deliver the World Heavyweight Championship to me!

Hulk Hogan vs. The Giant w/ The Taskmaster

The crowd was buzzing for this match, and there was a prolonged stare down between the two bitter rivals. Hogan has contested that Andre and he were great friends, but The Giant didn’t believe a word of it and is out for blood. The Giant started swinging wildly at the champion, who dodged them and looked for a way to get some offense in. This was not to be though as The Giant got his hands on him and drove him straight down into the mat. The Giant toyed with him for several minutes, but Hogan made a quick comeback and clotheslined The Giant. He didn’t take him down, but he staggered him into the ropes. Hogan then followed up and used all his momentum to clothesline The Giant over the top rope and to the floor, where he layed in a heap. Hogan was going to follow up, but he was blindsided by The Taskmaster, who entered the ring and hit him square in the back with a chair, which only disqualified The Giant, and made Hogan very angry.

Winner by DQ: Hulk Hogan

As The Giant struggled to get his wits at ringside Hogan turned around on the spot and stared The Taskmaster in the face. He panicked and swung again at Hogan, who caught the chair this time. He ripped it out of the hands of The Taskmaster, who was now begging Hogan for mercy. Hogan thought about it for a split second, then planted The Taskmaster with a chair shot squarely between the eyes. He dropped the chair as The Taskmaster was down in the ring, then bounced off the ropes and nailed him with the Big Legdrop. Hogan got his title from ringside and held it up high and posed for the fans, possibly for the last time as World Heavyweight Champion on Monday Nitro.

Randy Savage vs. Lex Luger w/ Jimmy Hart

These two men haven’t crossed paths too often, but in the short time they have shared together they have made it no secret that they don’t like each other. Each man is trying to build momentum towards World War 3, Savage for the big battle royal, Luger for his World Heavyweight Championship battle inside the steel cage against Hulk Hogan. The two men circled around, not wanting to be the first one to make a mistake, and as Savage realized that he was going to have to make the first move he attacked Luger, but Luger was ready and turned it around and picked up the first advantage of the match. Luger showed up his impressive power against the smaller Savage as he threw him into the corner, then started pounding away on him. The crowd got behind Savage, who used this to duck one of Luger’s punch attempts, causing Luger to strike the top turnbuckle and scream out in pain. As he back away holding his hand Savage went up to the second rope and flew off with an elbow to the head, taking Luger down to the mat.

Savage stayed on the attack as he went down and started pounding away on Luger. Jimmy Hart was shouting at ringside for Luger to get up, but Savage used his great experience to keep the advantage and not let Luger find a hole to exploit to give him the edge. The crowd was very excited as Savage got Luger up and bodyslammed him to the mat, then climbed the turnbuckles. He flew off with the Flying Elbow, but Luger rolled out of the way at the last second, sending Savage straight into the mat. Luger was like a shark that smelled blood in the water and he started attacking Savage at a frantic pace. Luger was unloading his heavy offense now as Savage tried getting back in the match, but Luger wasn’t having any of it as Jimmy Hart taunted Savage from ringside. Savage tried getting in one last charge, and he headed up top to drop an axe handle on Luger, but he was ready and attacked Savage, then got him up in the Torture Rack, and after a lengthy battle the referee called for the bell, giving the match to Luger.

After the match the referee called for the bell, but Lex Luger didn’t let Savage out of the Torture Rack. As the referee tried to separate the men Jimmy Hart took out the referee with his megaphone. Luger wrenched harder and harder, and almost as if he was trying to get this result Hulk Hogan came sprinting out of the back to break things up. Luger quickly threw Savage down and was waiting for Hogan. The two men met in the middle of the ring and started throwing punches at another, not wanting to wait until Sunday to settle this score.

As this was going on Savage tried getting to his feet at ringside, but The Giant was making his way down the aisle to pick the bones of his former rival, and one of the competitors in World War 3. The Giant got his hands around the neck of Savage and was choking him out, when Sting came running down the entrance ramp. He started chopping away on The Giant. Now there were two huge brawls happening, one inside the ring and one outside. Nitro ran out of time and faded to black as officials and wrestlers poured out of the back to break these fights up and keep something from happening that would effect World War 3.

Final Rating: B+
