WWF Challenge, Week 3, March 1983 WWF Challenge Tom Gola Arena located in Philadelphia, PA Showing Live on TV Cable East 4,835 people are in attendance --------------------------------------- Pre-Show: The Steiner Brothers/The Iron Sheik vs Tony Garea/Eddie Gilbert/Bob Roop (C+ Rating) ~Looks like the Iron Sheik is still in Mr. McMahon’s doghouse for missing several shows as he is booked in this dark match against much lesser opponents. Rick Steiner ends up getting the win by pinning Tony Garea after some outside interference by his brother Scott, while the referee was distracted by manager Jimmy Hart. Overall a solid training match but nothing to write home about. Paul Orndorff vs Ronnie Garvin (C Rating) ~Excellent match between a couple of the newest members of the WWF. Neither guy is well known in the Tri State area but both are very talented workers who receive plenty of time in the main show whenever the WWF heads to the Southeast. Orndorff ended up getting the win in a match that could have gone either way. Expect to see more of these guys as their popularity grows in the Tri State area. --------------------------------------- Main Show: Tag Title Match Made! (B Rating) ~The show starts off with Mr. McMahon sitting in his office in the back of the arena. The Strongbows accompanied by manager Miss Elizabeth burst into the room and begin complaining how every time they defeat the Wild Samoans that they can’t win the title but the Samoans get themselves disqualified. McMahon doesn’t seem to be paying much attention but is staring at Miss Elizabeth and the two are smiling back and forth. Finally McMahon speaks: McMahon: Ok ok! Just calm down. I really don’t think much of either one of you two BUT I have nothing but the utmost respect for Miss Elizabeth and I can tell that this whole thing really has her upset so I am making a match between you and the Wild Samoans for the Tag Team Title to be held at Wrestlemania and it will be a no disqualification match! ~The Strongbows seem quite happy about this announcement and begin celebrating and turn to leave the room but McMahon interrupts them: McMahon: You two can go but perhaps Miss Elizabeth would like to stay behind for awhile. I really need to discuss the details of the contract for that match and we should really be one on one for that! ~The crowd boos as McMahon smiles and Miss Elizabeth does not seem pleased. The Strongbows exit the room and the skit closes with McMahon smiling and then closing the door on the camera… Tito Santana vs Big John Studd (C+ Rating) ~No real back story here, just an opening match between two workers with very contrasting styles. Studd is the much larger man but Santana hangs in there by using his superior quickness and technical skills. Things are looking grim for Santana as Studd goes to apply a big bear hug but Santana is able to slip away and use a handful of tights to roll up Studd for the cover and get a quick 3 count! The crowd cheers as Santana quickly jumps out of the ring to escape the angry man beast! Egos out of control! (B+ Rating) ~Ray Stevens and Superstar Billy Graham cut a promo to hype their match later tonight against WWF Tag Team Champs The Wild Samoans. Graham is magic on the microphone as always and promises that the Wild Samoans won’t make it to their match at Wrestlemania after tonight and that he is the greatest Sports Entertainment Superstar of all time! Stevens chips in with some mindless rambles of his own and it becomes clear that nobody loves these two Corporation members more than they love themselves! Ax/The Spoiler vs Pedro Morales/Bruno Sammartino (A* Rating) ~Ax and The Spoiler have been working together a lot as a tag team lately and are looking good. Overall this is an excellent match and the fans really seem to get behind it with Pedro and Bruno being the clear crowd favorites. However, in true Legion of Doom style, Jake Roberts comes down to the ring to taunt Pedro Morales. The referee tells Roberts to leave but that distraction allows Ax to knock out Sammartino using a set of brass knuckles he had stashed in his waistband! The referee turns around only to see Ax covering Sammartino and is forced to make the 3 count which gives the win to Ax/The Spoiler! The crowd boos and Roberts jumps into the ring in an attempt to help finish Pedro and Bruno off but Pedro gets them both out of the ring before anymore damage is done. The showdown between Morales and Roberts at Wrestlemania should be a classic because you can just see the hatred they have for each other. Albano Whining (B+ Rating) ~Before the start of the next match, Lou Albano is shown knocking on the closed door of Vince McMahon. Albano is yelling that the match McMahon made for Wrestlemania isn’t fair and that his team, The Wild Samoans, should not have to work! After a few minutes the door cracks open and a very disheveled Vince McMahon sits his head. He tells Albano to beat it because he is in the middle of some “heated negotiations” and that the Wrestlemania match stands so deal with it! McMahon slams the door closed and Albano walks away grumbling his displeasure with the situation. Ray Stevens/Superstar Billy Graham vs The Wild Samoans in a non-title matchup (B+ Rating) ~Superstar Billy Graham is clearly “carried” in this match and spends more time on the ring apron taunting the crowd than actually wrestling. The Samoans and Stevens put on a solid display and things appear to be in the bag for the Samoans as Afa is ready to make the pin, when The Strongbows (no Miss Elizabeth in sight) appear out of the back and jump into the ring with steel chairs. They immediately attack the Wild Samoans and really clean house! The fans cheer the wild chaos of it all and Stevens/Graham get the heck of there to avoid getting injured. The referee calls the match a No Contest and the segment ends with the Strongbows chasing the Samoans into the backstage area! Wrestlemania Hype (A Rating) ~A brief video is played to hype Wrestlemania and it focuses on the headline match for the WWF Heavyweight Title between current champion Jimmy Snuka and former champion Bob Backlund. The video gets a big reaction as the fans seem to be really behind the idea of Wrestlemania. Bob Backlund vs Don Muraco in a non-title match (A Rating) ~This is easily the best match of the night as current IC Champ Muraco and former Heavyweight Champ Backlund put on an absolute clinic in the ring. Both workers have their A game tonight and look to be in prime condition heading into Wrestlemania where Backlund will take on Snuka for the Heavyweight title and Muraco will defend his title in a vicious Triple Threat Match. The match looks to go of without any outside interference until Muraco’s manager, Jimmy Hart, just can’t control himself any longer and attempts to hit Backlund over the head with his microphone after Backlund got thrown out of the ring! Backlund’s manager, Arnold Skaalund is quick to respond and attacks Hart! From there, total chaos breaks out and all four men are on the outside in a brawl! The referee finally calls for the bell and rules that the match is a double disqualification. The crowd doesn’t seem to care as Backlund finally gains the upper hand and sends Muraco/Hart running to the backstage area. Things finish up with Backlund back in the ring working up the crowd and getting all the cheap pops that he can! Gorilla Monsoon praises Backlund for having the heart of a champion and Eric Bischoff claims that Backlund is nothing more than a regional jobber who will be exposed at Wrestlemania. Andre the Giant vs Jimmy Snuka in a non-title match (A Rating) ~It is finally time for the main event of the night and it looks like WWF Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Snuka is going to have his hands full against the 8th Wonder of the World, Andre the Giant. This is another great match and rivals the previous match in terms of excitement and crowd appeal as Snuka performs some great high risks moves and Andre is well…Andre! About what is supposed to be the midpoint of the match, Andre goes his favorite move of getting himself tied up in the ropes so his opponent can get the upper hand but this time it goes wrong as Superstar Billy Graham appears from the backstage area and runs to the ring! Before Andre can free himself, Graham takes the ring bell and knocks Andre over the head with it! The crowd gasps in horror as Andre rolls around the ring in a pool of his own blood! The referee immediately calls for the bell and gives Andre the win via disqualification. As Graham turns his back on the ring and taunts the crowd, Jimmy Snuka climbs to the top rope and jumps off…lands on Graham…and knocks the wind out of both men. The broadcast ends with Andre rolling around in the ring and both Graham and Snuka seemingly unconscious on the outside of the ring. Looks like things are getting interesting as we are only 6 days away from Wrestlemania! --------------------------------------- Tuesday Night Titans Preview: The last televised show before Wrestlemania includes several warm up matches and a chance for workers to get a final tune up before the big event! *Leilani Kai (current champ) vs The Fabulous Moolah for the WWF Ladies Title *Bruno Sammartino vs Jummy Snuka in a non-title matchup (rumors have surfaced that Snuka is injured and may not be able to wrestle) *Bob Backlund vs George "The Animal" Steele *Big John Studd vs The Iron Sheik *Randy Savage vs The Iron Sheik (Yes two matches for the Sheik and he will be expected to work them back to back! He has been complaining about lack of ring time so lets see how he likes two matches in a row!) I'm looking forward to Wrestlemania '83. The Snuka v. Backlund Main Event bout might end up being match of the year material, considering how strong both men are heading into it. Considering the recent rumors that the top rope shot Snuka landed on Graham may have caused an injury to the Superfly, I'm hoping Bob gets another reign.

Tuesday Night Titans, Week 4, March 1983 Tuesday Night Titans The Pavillion located in Philadelphia, PA Showing Live on TV Local – Tri State 4,920 people are in attendance --------------------------------------- Pre-Show: Total Perfection (Lex Luger/Rick Rude) vs Tony Garea/Eddie Gilbert (C- Rating) ~These two teams have faced each other numerous times before and the grooming of the young tag team named Total Perfection continues as Lex Luger gets the win by forcing a submission out of Eddie Gilbert by using the torture rack. The match got a solid response from the crowd so seemed to get behind Total Perfection a little more than usual. Jerry Stubbs vs Scott Steiner (D Rating) ~Scott Steiner got the win over Stubbs in a rare singles appearance for the young up and comer. Steiner pulled out the win by using the Steiner Recliner to force a submission on the newcomer Stubbs. --------------------------------------- Main Show: Ladies Title Hype! (A Rating) ~Leilani Kai comes out early for her match and works the crowd as he taunts The Fabulous Moolah and claims that she will get an easy win tonight and then go on to greatness at Wrestlemania. Leilani Kai (current champ) vs The Fabulous Moolah for the WWF Ladies Title (C+ Rating) ~A solid match between two veteran workers which resulted in Leilani Kai getting the win over Moolah. Moolah throws a fit after losing and the two women end up brawling out of the ring and into the backstage area. Big John Studd vs The Iron Sheik (C+ Rating) ~The first of two matches for The Iron Sheik. He pulls out the win in this first match after his manager, The Grand Wizard, hands him a set of brass knuckles which he then uses on Studd after the referee is distracted by The Grand Wizard. The crowd boos as the Sheik waves his Iranian flag around the ring and taunts the crowd. Macho Man Ramblings! (A Rating) ~Macho Man comes out for his match against the Sheik and has a few words for him before things begin: Savage: Sheik put down your flag and salute a true legend! Macho Man can fly sooooooooo highhhhh….oooohhhhh yeeeeaaahhhh! Macho Man can soooooaaaarrrrr soooooo loooooowwwwwwwww! When I pin you one…two…threee…ohhhhhh yeeeaaaahhh….right in the middle of the ring….I will feel your pain….ooooohhhhhhhhhh yeeeeeaahhhhhhh! ~The crowd seems a bit confused by Savage’s statements but immediately begin booing because they know that they hate him but they just don’t really understand anything that he is saying! Randy “Macho Man” Savage vs The Iron Sheik (B Rating) ~The Iron Sheik seems slightly tired for this match after working hard against the monster Big John Studd. Savage puts this one away with a flying elbow off the top rope after his manager, Jimmy Hart, trips up Sheik in the ring. The beating continues after the match as Savage adds insult to injury by putting a hurting on The Iron Sheik and rips up his flag before tossing it into the crowd. Snuka & Albano Hype Match (A Rating) ~Snuka and Albano cut a brief promo hyping up the match between Snuka and Backlund at Wrestlemania. The promo is good but there does seem to be some tension between Snuka and Albano and you have to wonder how it will impact the match at Wrestlemania. Also Snuka does reveal that he reinjured his ribs when he attacked Superstar Billy Graham at the last show. But Snuka says he will work his match tonight and at Wrestlemania because he is old school and doesn’t take a night off no matter what! Bob Backlund vs George “The Animal” Steele (B+ Rating) ~This is Backlund’s final tune up match before Wrestlemania as he was told that he won’t be making the trip down to the Southeast for WWF In Your House later in the week. Backlund looked sharp and worked a solid match with the reckless Steele. Things finally finish up with Backlund getting the win via pin fall. Unlike Snuka, Backlund appears to be 100% physically and that could be the difference at Wrestlemania. Bruno Sammartino vs Jimmy Snuka in a non-title match (A Rating) ~Snuka puts on a good match despite his injury and Sammartino makes no effort to exploit Snuka’s wounded ribs. The action is very good in the ring with the crowd really getting behind the action. Snuka finally gets the pin on Sammartino although both workers looked solid. After the match is over, Bob Backlund appears from the back and starts to call out Snuka. This move is a bit out of the ordinary for Backlund but he seems to be trying to get under Snuka’s skin. Snuka finally jumps out of the ring and the two men begin to brawl. The show ends with Snuka and Backlund fighting all the way to the back and the announcers hyping up Wrestlemania as the time when all of these feuds will finally be settled and history will be made! --------------------------------------- WWF In Your Neighborhood preview plus some general news: *Road Warriors vs Armed Forced (Ronnie Garvin/Jerry Stubbs) *Bob Roop vs Paul Orndorff *Jake Roberts vs Ray Stevens *Don Muraco vs Tony Atlas in a non-title match *Classie Freddie Blassie was fired today from the WWF for being late to several shows. Rumor is that McMahon was looking for any excuse to get rid of Blassie and it looks like he found one. I just noticed that where there were once a bunch of 5 star diaries, they are now all 3 and 4 star diaries so I am guessing some youngster with too much time on their hands went through and gave everyone a bad rating. I think the mods need to set it up so that if you vote on a diary then your name is shown next to the vote! Anyway, give me a few minutes and I will post the Wrestlemania lineup so we can get some picks and predictions!

And are voting multiple times...funny, I suppose you should think that all of us giving feedback and telling you how much we're enjoying this diary are lying and really don't like it...right...anyway, totally looking forward to the Wrestlemania card!

Wrestlemania Predictions! Ok here is the lineup for Wrestlemania! It will be a massive show so I will need some time to do the write up and it will probably be a long read but I will try to highlight key points of each segment to make it easier on everyone. Make your predictions now! Judy Martin vs The Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Leilani Kai ~Kai is the current champ and this Fatal Fourway will be for the WWF Ladies Title. Rumor is that the women's division could be eliminated after this match and only the winner will remain in the WWF! Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson ~Vince McMahon's golden boy is taking on the former WWF Tag Team Champs. This feud has been running for a month or so and looks to be settled once and for all at Wrestlemania. Tito Santana vs The Spoiler ~Santana has been stuck in mid card hell and really needs a win here to help jump start his career. But The Spoiler is a strong member of the Legion of Doom and his tag team partner Ax is never far away. Mr. Fuji vs Big John Studd ~No real build up here, just a couple of workers who seem to have great chemistry in the ring. Studd has the power of The Corporation behind him but Fuji is a very clever wrestler who can beat anyone when he is on his game. The Iron Sheik vs George "The Animal" Steele ~Sheik has been a continual discpline problem for Vince McMahon and this is just an attempt to punish him by forcing him to work with the crazy man George Steele. The Road Warriors vs ~Rumor is that a new tag team has been brought to the WWF by Vince McMahon, Sr and not even his son knows who it is. Expect some major fireworks in this match! The only hint I will give is that the team is a major player in the Southeast and is a couple of the toughest workers in the business. Pat Patterson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr ~If Patterson wins this match then he will gain complete control of his talk show but if McMahon's team wins then Patterson will become McMahon's personal butler for the next 30 days. Pedro Morales vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts Steel Cage Match ~Morales and Roberts have been back and forth over the last few weeks with Morales first being laid out by Roberts and the Legion of Doom, only to come back and return the favor. Winner of this match is also on the fast track to becoming the #1 Contender for the WWF IC Title. Superstar Billy Graham vs Andre The Giant ~This match will hopefully finish the longest running current feud in the WWF which started when Graham put out a bounty on Andre. Has the potential to be the best non-title match of the evening. Ax vs Bruno Sammartino vs Don Muraco ~This match is for Muraco's WWF IC Title. Ax and Sammartino have a little history between them and of course Muraco claims to be the greatest IC Champ of all time so there is alot on the line in this title match The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs The Strongbows (Chief Jay & Jules) ~This match is for the WWF Tag Team Championship which The Wild Samoans currently hold and the match is a NO DQ match. The Strongbows have actually defeated The Samoans several times in the last month but it was by DQ each time. This is their chance to win the belts once and for all but of course The Wild Samoans have a different outcome in mind. Bob Backlund vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka ~This is the headline match of the night and is for the WWF Heavyweight Championship of the World! Snuka is the current champ but Backlund was clearly robbed of the title the last time they faced each other. Snuka is coming into the match injured and having problems with his manager, Lou Albano. Meanwhile Backlund is looking stronger than ever and is out to prove a point. Of course who knows what Vince McMahon will do and that could be the ultimate ex-factor.

Judy Martin vs The Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Leilani Kai I feel Moolah will win the title . One of the greatest women's champions ever but I could be wrong ;) Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson Macho is gonna Snap into Atlas and Johnson no doubt about it Tito Santana vs The Spoiler The Spoiler has the number advantage so I see Ax causing some trouble and helping The Spoiler take this match Mr. Fuji vs Big John Studd Another numbers game with Studd having the Corporation watching his back. but Fuji is very talented so it can go anyway The Iron Sheik vs George "The Animal" Steele Two legitimate mad men facing off in the ring boy this should be a bloodbath The Road Warriors vs Hm.. mystery team huhh . maybe the Bladerunners(Sting and Warrior). I'm gonna say the warriors win this but with the mystery team and all I expect to be wrong Pat Patterson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr Vince is going to get involved a lot in this match thus the chances of patterson winning are looking slim. Pedro Morales vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts Steel Cage Match Gonna bet all my money on my boy Jake . Hopefully he gets the win and after match he lets the snake loose on Morales ! Superstar Billy Graham vs Andre The Giant The Biggest man in the business should take this match unless The Superstar has extra help Ax vs Bruno Sammartino vs Don Muraco Muraco will keep the belt after picking up the win ina hard fought match The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs The Strongbows (Chief Jay & Jules) Chief Jay and JUles really want the belts so I think they'll overcome all odds and take the straps Bob Backlund vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka I'm sensing Capt. Lou turning on Snuka and walking out leaving Snuka open for the Crossface Chickenwing. Backlund by submission

Judy Martin vs The Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Leilani Kai Moolah seems like the best option to stay with the company Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson Oh Yeah! Tito Santana vs The Spoiler Ok, so I think the Spoiler is likely to win, but I was a big Tito fan as a kid, so I have to go with him. Arriba! Mr. Fuji vs Big John Studd The Big guy is just too much The Iron Sheik vs George "The Animal" Steele This could be the most entertaining match, really. Both men are so much fun to watch in there. The Road Warriors vs The Minnesota Wrecking Crew? I say the newcomers win, esp. if its the crew. Then again, the Road Warriors are in fact the Road Warriors. Tell 'em Hawk. Pat Patterson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr One needs only look to my MACW game to see that I like using Patterson, but there is no way VInnie Mac loses this one Pedro Morales vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts Steel Cage Match As the mouthpiece of the LOD faction, Jake has to come out on top at Wrestlemania Superstar Billy Graham vs Andre The Giant It is unthinkable that Andre loses this one Ax vs Bruno Sammartino vs Don Muraco Ax can't win with Jake becoming #1 contender...and Bruno, well, is Bruno - though if you go back and watch his boy David v. Beefcake at Wrestlemania I, Bruno was at worst the fourth or fifth most over guy in the building that night. Muraco capitalizes on Ax and Bruno pummeling each other and retains. The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs The Strongbows (Chief Jay & Jules) I love the Samoans, but I think Chief Jay finds a way here Bob Backlund vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka I'm totally rooting for Backlund...but Snuka will overcome all odds and make Wrestlmania truly a night to remember! Take the time and write it all up - obviously from my own cards, I'm partial to the lengthy and detailed! Wrestlemania baby - history in the making!

I just finished reading through this whole thing and it is awesome. The thing that you do better than anyone else is that you really tell a story and develop the characters. It is not just a bunch of random matches. Excellent! My Predictions that are sure to go wrong: Judy Martin vs The Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Leilani Kai ~Moolah gets all the glory but Mae Young is just as old and crazy as her so give her the belt! Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson ~No one can stop the Macho Man...ooohhhh yyeeeeaaaaahhhhh! Tito Santana vs The Spoiler ~Tito has been doing the job since the start of the diary so no reason to stop now. Mr. Fujivs Big John Studd ~I always liked Fuji and think he has good potential if you start using him some more. The Iron Sheik vs George "The Animal" Steele is a DRAW ~I predict a massive blood bath with a double DQ. It is the only possible ending with these two crazies! The Road Warriors vs TBA ~It is the Road Warriors, they can not be beaten! Pat Patterson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr ~No way McMahon will let Patterson win this match. Pedro Morales vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts Steel Cage Match ~Roberts is too good to lose this one. Superstar Billy Graham vs Andre The Giant ~The Giant is a man amoung boys. Ax vs Bruno Sammartino vs Don Muraco ~Muraco is a good fit here and I think you can use the other guys in different storylines without a title belt. The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs The Strongbows (Chief Jay & Jules) ~No DQ is a GOOD thing for the Samoans because now they will cheat more than ever and the Stongbows have no chance. Bob Backlund vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka ~I think Snuka will win the title clean this time and then dump his cheating manager since it seems like Snuka has had enough of Albano.

Judy Martin vsThe Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Leilani Kai Yeah, I think Moolah will win also. Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson Com on, its a numbers game. I bet someone will run in and attack Savage though starting a feud. Tito Santana vs The Spoiler Tito all the way. Mr. Fuji vs Big John Studd Another numbers game with Studd having the Corporation watching his back. but Fuji is very talented so it can go anyway The Iron Sheik vs George "The Animal" Steele Great match, i think steele will com out on top though. The Road Warriors vs I say maybe it will be...oh I dont know but the Warriors are going to finally lose! Then eventually the LOD will take them out though lol. Pat Patterson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr Come on now, do you think vince would book himself to lose. lol. Pedro Morales vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts Steel Cage Match No Doubt about it. This is my "Best Bet" Superstar Billy Graham vs Andre The Giant Pure Power Ax vs Bruno Sammartino vs Don Muraco Gonna start the Chain of LOD Gold. The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs The Strongbows (Chief Jay & Jules) I dont know why. Bob Backlund vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka I also say Backlund. I also agree that Albano will turn on Snuka.

Here's my predictions Judy Martin vs The Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Leilani Kai -Moolah's the class of the women, but that's not saying much Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson - I see Atlas and Johnson winning, but starting their own feud Tito Santana vs The Spoiler - Never really liked Tito, so I'll go with the Spoiler Mr. Fuji vs Big John Studd - I see Studd winning this by DQ as Fuji brings in some outside help The Iron Sheik vs George "The Animal" Steele - Don't like either one, but Sheik is better than Steele The Road Warriors vs - My boys, the Warriors, all the way. Don't care who their opponent is! Pat Patterson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr - Patterson wins and Vince makes Stevens life miserable for the near future Pedro Morales vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts Steel Cage Match - Pedro manages to stave off the Snake in the cage Superstar Billy Graham vs Andre The Giant - Andre ends this feud, once and for all. Ax vs Bruno Sammartino vs Don Muraco - Ax is better in a tag team, Bruno's past his prime..so it's got to be Don The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs The Strongbows (Chief Jay & Jules) - I think the Samoans win, but the Strongbows come very close to victory Bob Backlund vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka - Superfly wins, but this time, knowingly with Captain Lou's help

Awesome feedback guys! It is interesting to see all of the different opinions on the various matches and storylines that are going on. I will post Wrestlemania this weekend and yes it will be held in Madison Square Garden! I probably won't be able to completely fill the place but having the first Wrestlemania at any other location would be a crime!

Wrestlemania March 1983 Wrestlemania Madison Square Garden located in New York City, New York Showing Live on Pay-Per-View 11,400 people are in attendance --------------------------------------- Pre-Show: Steiner Brothers (Scott & Rick Steiner) vs Tony Garea/Eddie Gilbert (D Rating) ~The Steiner Brothers come out in their usual amateur wrestler gimmicks and are escorted to the ring by their hated manager, Jimmy “Mouth of the South” Hart. Hart does all the talking in the ring as he taunts the crowd and presents his team as the only “real” wrestlers in the WWF! Garea and Gilbert come out with an old school, all business attitude and clearly do not seem pleased to only be in the pre-show of the company’s crown jewel PPV. The match comes off well and works as a solid warm up for the crowd. Jimmy Hart is more active than usual and is trying to really work the crowd. The match ends with some Jimmy Hart interference that allows Scott Steiner to apply the Steiner Recliner to Eddie Gilbert and get the win by submission. ABA Mark Calloway vs Bob Roop vs Tiger Chung Lee (C- Rating) ~Calloway is the first one out and is sporting a biker/tough guy gimmick. He rolls out on a custom made Harley motorcycle and gets the crowd very fired up. While still young, Calloway is an up and coming worker with plenty of potential. Next is Bob Roop who has an Armed Forces gimmick. Roop gets a good response as he waves the American Flag in the ring. He has been working with Ronnie Garvin and Jerry Stubbs to form the Armed Forces Stable but tonight he is all on his own. Finally Tiger Chung Lee makes his way out and Tiger has been playing the “evil foreigner” which draws a ton of heat from the crowd. Tiger works the crowd and it looks like the crowd is really starting to get fired up for the main show. This match is well worked thanks to Roop and Lee’s sound technical skills carrying the match while Calloway uses his power to put on a good show. The match finishes with Roop and Calloway working together to catch Lee with a double clothesline to knock him down, allowing Roop to get the win by pin fall. The referee ignores the obvious double team and the fans cheer as Roop’s hand is raised in victory! --------------------------------------- Main Show: History in the making! (A Rating) ~The show opens with Vince McMahon, Jr in the middle of the ring. He steps out of character for a moment and thanks all of the fans for supporting the WWF and making this moment possible. He goes on to say that tonight everyone is watching history in the making as Wrestlemania is about to become the biggest PPV in the history of the company and is going to be the standard by which all future PPVs will be measured! The segment gets a big response and the show has officially begun! The announcers for tonight are Gorilla Monsoon, Lord Alfred Hayes, and The Grand Wizard. All three men briefly address the TV audience and set up each of the matches that will be seen tonight. Leilani Kai (Champ) vs The Fabulous Moolah vs Mae Young vs Judy Martin for the WWF Ladies Title (C+ Rating) ~The first match of the night is a Fatal Four way for the WWF Ladies Title. Kai and Martin are both working a heel gimmick, while Young and Moolah are working the baby face angle. As the match begins it is clear that Moolah is the crowd favorite. Moolah is considered by many to be the best female wrestler of all time and even in her 50s, she can still work a match as good as anyone. Things quickly turn into a 2 on 2 as the heels work together and the baby faces work together. As Martin and Young take the action to the outside, Moolah and Kai are struggling in the middle of the ring as the match appears to be about to come to a climax with Moolah locking in a figure four leg lock on Kai when Vince McMahon, Jr appears from the backstage area. McMahon gets the referee’s attention which allows Kai to poke Moolah in the eye and escape the hold. Kai then jumps on the stunned Moolah and goes for the pin…the referee looks back and quickly springs into action and counts 1…2….3….giving Kai the win! However, as the bell sounds McMahon climbs into the ring and begins to speak while Kai is celebrating: McMahon: Hold on just one minute. I am not sure how this match got scheduled because I sure didn’t do it. Wrestlemania is supposed to be the greatest show on earth and that is no place for a woman! (The crowd boos wildly!) Furthermore I am sick and tired of you women bringing down the ratings so as of this moment, ALL OF YOU ARE FIRED! ~The crowd can’t believe it and all of the women are in disbelief when Moolah steps forward and slaps McMahon in the face! With that, all of the other women jump into action and begin beating him into the ground! McMahon is quickly overwhelmed by the ladies and the crowd cheers as the ladies beat their ex-boss into the mat. The segment ends with McMahon rolling around in pain and the four ladies walk out together with their hands raised and the crowd cheering! A Surprise for Junior (A Rating) ~As Vince McMahon, Jr is finally getting up from his beating in the previous segment and looks to leave the ring, he suddenly stops dead in his tracks as the music hits and his father, Vince McMahon Senior appears on the stage! The crowd cheers as the eldest McMahon makes a rare appearance. McMahon, Sr: Son I am not sure where I went wrong with you but that is another conversation for another time. I just wanted to let you know that I was the one who booked the previous match and the way you treated those women was a disgrace but not a surprise. And speaking of surprises I have another one for you. I have just made another signing…THE MINNESOTA WRECKING CREW! ~The crowd roars its approval and Vinnie Mac looks crazed in the ring as he wildly swings his arms and appears totally shocked by the announcement. McMahon, Sr: And the best part about that signing is that you get to see one of them up close and personal as I am naming Gene Anderson as Pat Patterson’s partner in his match against you tonight! Your attempt to defeat Patterson with a 2 on 1 match is a joke and tonight you are going to have to fight fair! Also Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson will be the mystery opponents tonight in the match against the Road Warriors. You wanted a great show Vince…well now you got one. Have fun! ~Vinnie Mac continues to act stunned and is completely speechless! The crowd cheers and can’t believe that the MWC will be in action tonight. The Crew is one of the biggest forces in wrestling today and a huge addition to the WWF. They were also the last remaining household names in Georgia Championship Wrestling so their arrival in the WWF is a major lose to GCW especially considering the fact that Ole Anderson was the head booker of GCW. Not only has Ole joined the WWF, but he has left GCW and now that company has no head booker! Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Ole & Arn Anderson) vs The Road Warriors (C+ Rating) ~The Warriors are out first with their power & paint gimmick and are following their manager Paul Ellering who is similarly dressed. The Warriors draw a ton of heat and are one of the most intimidating tag teams in the entire WWF and have been almost unstoppable up to this point. Next out is the Minnesota Wrecking Crew and are accompanied by manager Gene Anderson. All three men are the definition of tough as nails old school wrestling and they look like three guys you would never want to face in the ring or in a bar fight. Arn is the youngest of the three men and Gene is the oldest. The Anderson family is widely respected as one of the top wrestling families in the business and is known for being top workers in the ring. This match is nothing but non-stop action from the moment the bell rings and it appears that the Road Warriors have finally met a team that won’t be intimidated! The balance of power is back and forth all match and the crowd seems to be getting behind the action. Things are going the MWC’s way when the youngest Anderson, Arn, appears to lose focus for just a moment and is distracted by Paul Ellering which allows RW Animal to nail him with a flying shoulder spear! Ole quickly jumps into the ring but is met by RW Hawk and forced back. Gene tries to help but he caught from behind with a steel chair by Ellering! This leaves the laid out Arn all alone and Animal is able to get the easy pin for the win! The crowd boos and the Road Warriors continue to beat down the MWC. Ole and Gene are finally able to old back the Warriors and get Arn out of the ring. The segment ends with plenty of taunting and it looks like this rivalry is FAR from over. A Super Promo (A* Rating) ~Next up is a brief video segment in which Superstar Billy Graham taunts Andre the Giant about their match later tonight. He mentions that Andre hasn’t even shown up yet and that he must be afraid to work the match tonight. Graham is one of the most hated villains in the WWF and gets a big response from the crowd. The announce team follows up on the segment by hyping the match some more and of course Graham’s manager, The Grand Wizard, who is working the broadcast is very favorable in his review of Graham’s comments. Big John Studd vs Mr. Fuji (C+ Rating) ~This is a follow up to another match this two had at the last show. These guys seem to have a good chemistry together in the ring and really put on a solid performance. There has been no major build up to this match but the crowd seems to still be enjoying the action and is starting to get behind Mr. Fuji since Studd is part of the hated stable known as The Corporation. After several near pin falls, Studd’s power seem to become too much for Fuji and Studd is able to catch Fuji coming off the ropes and locks in his dreaded bear hug! Fuji fights for all he is worth but just doesn’t have enough and is forced to submit. Of course Studd refuses to release the hold even after the referee calls for the bell and the crowd boos! Studd finally releases the hold and taunts the crowd saying that The Corporation owns Wrestlemania and that tonight will be a clean sweep for them! Junior Finally Speaks (B+ Rating) ~Next up is a live backstage interview with Vince McMahon, Jr and Ray Stevens. Eric Bischoff is the interviewer and it is basically a propaganda segment that insults Vince McMahon, Sr and Pat Patterson as well as the Minnesota Wrecking Crew. Vinnie Mac’s reputation as a villain continues to grow and Ray Stevens is looking as mean as ever. Things finally end with Vinnie Mac guaranteeing victory tonight and then saying that he will personally see to running out the Andersons and then his father if that is what it takes to gain total control of the WWF! Tito Santana vs The Spoiler (B Rating) ~The only other match of the night without any major build up is still a solid one. Santana is loved by the people although he hasn’t had much success in the WWF over the last few months. The Spoiler is one of the big guns of The Legion of Doom Stable and probably the most agile big man in the WWF. The two men really seem to have good chemistry in the ring and their styles complement each other with Spoiler calling the match. As the match continues, the Legion of Doom stable (Jake Roberts, Road Warriors, Ax, Paul Ellering) appear from the back and circle the ring. They don’t attack or say anything but Santana is clearly distracted and appears a bit intimidated. To make matters worse the referee, Earl Hebner, doesn’t say a word and allows LOD to stand outside the ring. Spoiler takes advantage of the now seemingly nervous Santana and catches him off the ropes with his claw hold! Santana struggles but is forced to submit and The Spoiler gets the win! As soon as the bell sounds, the Legion of Doom jump into the ring and beat down Santana. After the beating, Paul Ellering gets on the microphone and tells the Minnesota Wrecking Crew that their days are numbered. Jake Roberts then goes on to hype his match tonight against Pedro Morales and finally Ax hypes his match for the Intercontinental Title. The Legion of Doom comes off very strong in this segment and the crowd really seems to buy into their “unstoppable” gimmick. Pat Patterson/Gene Anderson vs Ray Stevens/Vince McMahon, Jr (B Rating) ~The crowd gives a huge cheer to Pat Patterson and Gene Anderson when they arrive in the ring. Both men are all about old school traditional wrestling and have a ton of experience in the ring. Next out is Ray “The Crippler” Stevens followed by Vince McMahon, Jr and finally Jimmy “Mouth of the South” Hart. Crippler is also a very old school wrestler dressed in just wrestling tights and Vinnie Mac is sporting the sweat pants and sweat shirt…real stylish of course! Jimmy Hart is working his megaphone and attempting to annoy as many people as possible which of course is his specialty. The match is a bit one sided as Ray Stevens is forced to do most of the work for his team as McMahon refuses to tag…a fact that seems to start to annoy Stevens. However, at about the 10 minute mark McMahon is caught in the ring against Pat Patterson when he reaches for the tag…nothing….nothing…McMahon looks at Stevens who tells McMahon to take care of his own dirty work for once! McMahon looks shocked and when he turns back to face Patterson, he is caught by Patterson with a running forearm! Patterson then drags McMahon out to the middle of the ring and locks in the sleeper hold on him…the referee checks McMahon…and Vinnie Mac is out cold! Pat Patterson has won this match and Ray Stevens just walks to the back, leaving McMahon in the middle of the ring where Patterson and Anderson give him a little extra beat down while they celebrate the big win. The announcers play up the betrayal by Stevens and wonder what kind of fall out could come from that action! A Giant Arrival (A* Rating) ~Cameras are out in the parking lot to record the arrival of Andre the Giant to the arena. As Andre is walking up to the arena doors, Superstar Billy Graham appears blocking the entrance. Andre drops his stuff and charges Graham, when Randy Savage, Big John Studd, and Paul Orndorff jump out to help Graham. All four men attack Andre and leave him in a pool of his own blood! The fans boo as Graham just laughs and tells Andre to get out of town before Graham puts him in the hospital. The Iron Sheik vs George “The Animal” Steele (B+ Rating) ~As expected this match is a complete bloodbath with both men taking heavy damage! It is complete chaos in the ring as steel chairs, torn up turnbuckle covers, and the ring bell seem to keep finding their way into the action. The match is finally ruled a double count out when Steele and Sheik take the action over the front row guard rail and into the fans. The two men continue battling all the way to an exit and finally disappear off screen with the fans eating up every second of it! Macho Man Randy Savage vs Tony Atlas/Rocky Johnson (B Rating) ~Savage is out first and works the microphone by taunting the crowd as well as his opponents. Finally Atlas/Johnson make it out to the ring and immediately begin double teaming Savage. The referee finally gets control and the match begins in earnest. The turning point of the match comes when Savage is being held in the corner by Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson swings a big roundhouse right at Savage who DUCKS and the punch knocks Atlas off the ring apron! Rocky seemed stunned by the turn of events which allows Savage to roll him up and get the pin by using the ropes for leverage. Savage has won the match but the fireworks have only begun as Johnson leaves the ring to help up Atlas, when Atlas knocks Johnson down! Atlas begins to call out Johnson as the reason they lost and then calls Johnson a traitor for not resigning with the WWF. More words are exchanged before Atlas finally knocks out Johnson with a steel chair and leaves him unconscious on the ground. Savage is loving it all in the middle of the ring and the crowd seems unsure how to react to the whole thing but finally begin cheering for Atlas as he leaves the ring area. Seeing Red! (A* Rating) ~Andre the Giant appears on the big screen all bandaged up and VERY angry! He screams wildly about how he is going to tear Graham limb from limb and that if any of his friends try to interfere then Andre will destroy them as well. The crowd loves the segment as the most popular man in professional wrestling looks like he is ready to go and ready to do some serious damage! The Wild Samoans (Champs) vs The Strongbows for the WWF Tag Team Titles (B+ Rating) ~This match is very similar to the ones that these two teams have had before expect that this match is a No DQ match so the Samoans are cheating more than ever! However, their cheating antics turn against them as Captain Lou Albano hits Sika over the head with his cane when he attempts to knock out Jules Strongbow. That moment of confusion is all that The Strongbows need as Jules Strongbow quickly covers the shaken Sika and gets the pin and the win! The Strongbows are the new WWF Tag Team Champions! The Samoans can not believe what has happened and Afa gets right into his manager’s face and shoves him to the ground! The crowd cheers as the Samoans leave the ring area without Albano and the Strongbows celebrate in the middle of the ring with their manager Miss Elizabeth. Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs Pedro Morales in a steel cage escape match (B+ Rating) ~Things get off to a very ugly start for Morales as he is jumped by The Legion of Doom in the backstage area as he is making his way out to the ring. The Road Warriors, Ax, and The Spoiler put a beating on Morales who is barely able to escape and is clearly in bad shape. Once Morales makes it to the ring he finds Jake Roberts waiting for him in the ring. Roberts has a large canvas bag in his corner and the bag appears to be moving. Roberts has never brought this bag out to the ring before and the announcers continue to speculate what could be in it! The match is a tough one for Morales as Roberts is clearly in the control but the match is very well worked and is technically sound in every way. Things finish up with Roberts catching the beaten up Morales with the DDT, after which Roberts easily climbs out of the ring for the victory. As the crowd boos, Roberts goes back into the ring to open up his canvas bag and dump a large boa constrictor right on top of Morales! The crowd gasps in horror and thankfully Morales is knocked out so he doesn’t realize what is happening. Roberts seems to have taken his evil ways to another level and the announcers discuss whether or not this snake will become a permanent fixture in the ring with Roberts. Don Muraco (Champ) vs Ax vs Bruno Sammartino for the WWF IC Title (A* Rating) ~Three of the most talented in-ring workers in the WWF make this match a true joy to watch and the action is non-stop. There is no teamwork involved as all three men have a dislike for each other although Sammartino and Ax seem to get into it the most since they have the strongest history between each other. Muraco sits back on several occasions allowing the other two guys to battle it out but is always nearby to make sure he can get in a cheap shot or two. Muraco is able to get the win and retain his title after Ax is tossed from the ring by Sammartino. When Sammartino turns back towards Muraco, he gets caught with Muraco’s submission finisher, the Oriental Spike, and the match is over in a heartbeat! Muraco celebrates the win and receives from solid support from the crowd while the announce team is proclaiming him the greatest Intercontinental Champion in the history of the WWF. Main Event Hype (A* Rating) ~Bob Backlund cuts a promo for his main event match against Jimmy Snuka for the WWF Heavyweight Title. The crowd loves the promo and cheer loudly for the man that most fans still consider the champion! Andre the Giant vs Superstar Billy Graham (A* Rating) ~This match up of mega stars is everything that is was expected to be and then some! Andre comes out strong but his intensity is met by Graham and the two battle back and forth for over 10 minutes which is a pretty epic match considering their stamina levels. Andre finally gets the decisive win by pinning Graham after softening him up with the big bear hug. Andre then chock slams Graham out of the ring and celebrates in the ring with the crowd cheering wildly in the background. Jimmy Snuka (Champ) vs Bob Backlund for the WWF Heavyweight Title (A Rating) ~This classic match up is the headline match of the night and lives up to the billing. The action is back and forth with both men looking strong although Snuka is wrapped up to highlight the fact that he is injured. The match is the longest of the evening as the two participants really give the fans their money’s worth with numerous pin falls, outside interference by both managers, and finally a classic finish with Backlund locking in the cross face chicken wing on Snuka. Snuka fights for his life and refuses to submit but is fading fast…Albano reaches into the ring with his cane giving Snuka the chance to use it to escape the hold but Snuka refuses to cheat and is finally forced to submit! Backlund has won the match and is the new WWF Heavyweight Champion of the World! Albano is livid and begins to cuss out Snuka but Snuka slaps him upside the head and throws him out of the ring. The evening ends with both Snuka and Backlund standing in the ring celebrating together and thanking the fans for making this a night that will go down in history! --------------------------------------- Overall Thoughts: I don’t think the show could have gone much better than it did with several storylines coming to an end and a couple of titles changing hands. There should be a few “Match of the Year” possibilities in there and it was the best attended show of the year so far. The show got 7,921 buys which is also a record and it should have improved our overall popularity. The only down side was that the show took forever to write up and I may not have done it justice but hopefully everyone enjoyed the read! --------------------------------------- Show Final Rating: A

Outstanding job! Some of my predictions came true, but you threw in a few swerves as well. I liked how all the women got fired, then took out their frustrations on Vince! That was a good way to "officially" get the show started. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew vs the Road Warriors looks like it will be a long-running fued, judging by the start. Nice way to bring in the Andersons, Doc! All in all, let me be the first to congratulate you on a historic WrestleMania!

Don't fool yourself, great write-up! I've been on this board for what seems like days waiting to read the wrestlemania results. 2 Question: Are all the women really fired or is it a storyline? and Is there anything left of GCW now that the MWC have come in? I like "The Crippler" turning on Vince in fact if he joins forces with Patterson/Gene/maybe the MWC as a real "old school" stable...Atlas and Rocky turn is a good way to elavate Atlas as Rocky is leaving...Jake Roberts character seems to be developing even more with the introduction of the snake...And finally you gave the fans what they wanted in the main event and thats a great match, a Snuka turn for the good and 2 stars raising each others hands to close the show! Can't wait to see where you go from here!

I'll agree with the others; great show! I like that the Crippler finally wised up and stopped being Vince's stooge. There is a ton of history between Stevens and Patterson. It would be really cool to see them fade off into the sunset while working together. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but I love the nod to the WM I bout where Windham & Rotundo lost to Sheik & Volkoff due to a cane shot. The Samoans losing to the Strongbows was big - heh. And while the Andre v. Superstar Billy and the Three Way for the IC title may have rated higher, the Main Event was splendid. Backlund winning the strap is fantastic, imo. Who knows how long he'll hold onto it, but for a man as bland as unbuttered toast, Bob is King. :) Plus, you can't beat that he and the Superfly celebrated together. Very cool. Congrats!!

First of all, thanks to everyone for their comments and for reading the diary. Wrestlemania was alot of fun and hopefully some more great storylines will emerge from this event. I did try to "tip my hat" to the real Wrestlemania with a few events and a few comments that happened at WM I and I am glad you guys picked up on it.
2 Question: Are all the women really fired or is it a storyline? and Is there anything left of GCW now that the MWC have come in? Can't wait to see where you go from here!
The women are still with the company but I plan on keeping them off screen for at least a month and they could end up getting fired for real. There is alot going on in the WWF at the moment and working them into a storyline is tough. George Championship Wrestling is in very bad shape if you ask me. They are being carried by Living Legend Larry Zbysko, Tommy Rich, and Buzz Sawyer. While those guys are good workers, I wouldn't want the fate of my company to be in their hands. Also GCW has no head booker although I expect them to assign Sam Muchinek to that position since they signed him away from the WWF. GCW has no tag team champs, Brad Armstong is their TV Champ, Rick McGraw is their Junior Heavyweight Champ, and of course Tommy Rich is their Heavyweight Champ. They have no TV show and are running one live show a month. I feel good about being able to overtake them in the Southeast in the near future but we shall see! Finally there are alot of stables in the WWF right now and Stevens as well as the Wrecking Crew could become huge wild cards. Stevens is closely associated with Pat Patterson so Stevens could join with him, Bruno, and Pedro Morales to strengthen the Old Timers Stable but Ray Stevens is crazy so who knows! The MWC are also big time wild cards especially in the tag team division and what they plan on doing is anyone's guess.
