</span><span style="color:#708090;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Minneapolis Minnesota </span></span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Verne Gagne sits behind his desk going over papers when a sudden knock on the door fills the office. Verne looks up to see his son Greg leaning halfway into the office.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Greg:</strong> You wanted to see me pop?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Verne:</strong> Yeah...close the door behind you and take a seat. We have some very serious matters to discuss.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Greg:</strong> If this is about me winning the AWA Championship again....</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Verne:</strong> No, nothing like that. You told me you didn't feel like you deserved it yet and I can respect that. No, what we need to discuss is the future of the AWA as a company. Currently we are losing money at an alarming rate. By my calculations, we will be out of business in less than two years. So, the way I see it, we have three options. Option one, we sell to McMahon and get out of the wrestling business altogether. A year ago I wouldn't even give such an idea a second thought, but now. The business is changing and to be quite frank, I don't like where it is headed.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Greg:</strong> Pop, I know we're facing some hard times, but you gotta believe the people want the product you're selling, not that flashy garbage they do up in New York. I give the WWF a year tops, before the fans get sick of the garbage they put on the TV.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Verne:</strong> Well, you got some fire in you after all. Good, because I couldn't live with myself if we folded before everyone showed their hand. So that option is off the table. Option two, Pro Wrestling USA! I already talked to Jarrett, Lawler, Fritz, and Crockett...they are all on board. Now, I'm not talking some rinky dink alliance like the NWA turned into. No, I'm talking a merger of all our companies. The jist of it being that we all operate in our own territories independent of each other like we have been doing, except we pool all our money into one big pot. This will allow us to run shows all over the country and not have to worry about small gates in certain areas. Also, we all agreed to air our TV shows on separate nights, but on one network! Imagine one channel where you can see the AWA, JCP, CWA, and WCCW! Also, we agreed to only hold joint PPV events from now on. What do you think boy?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Greg:</strong> To be completely honest pop, that idea is terrible! First off, we can't trust any of those guys as far as we can toss 'em. You really think they are going to share their gates with you without skimming off the top? Secondly, those guys rather wrassle than wrestle. Our technical style up here in the Midwest would be overrun by their Southern style in a matter of months. Lastly, the way I see it...with the exception of Crockett and the JCP, those guys need you way more than you need them. In fact, chances are they would only drag us down with them, with all their lax spending and lavish overblown spectacles. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Verne:</strong> Damn boy! If you showed this much fire on the mic in front of those fans as you are in here...Anyways, we still have another option. Now bear in mind this comes from the lawyers not me...Option three, you take over the company. Now before you say anything here me out. I could shift all the AWA's debt to my personal accounts. Then, we transfer the company into your name. Lastly, I declare bankruptcy and just like that the AWA is completely debt free and ready to move forward. Now, it will be a just on paper type of deal. I'd still be in control of the company, just informally. What do you say?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Greg:</strong> I honestly don't know what to say pop. While I do like the idea of the AWA being debt free, I don't like the idea of me being a mere figurehead. In fact, I have quite a few ideas to turn this company around myself. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Verne:</strong> You know, one day I will be dead and buried and you will be running this place, but only if it survives that long. That said, I think we can work out an arrangement that will allow you to run things on a trial basis. How does a year long tryout sound? You own, operate, and book the AWA for an entire year. If at the end of the year we are still in business <strong>and</strong> you have turned a profit...then I'll give it to you just like that. However, if you have even a penny of debt by the year's end...well, I get control of the company back. Deal?</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Greg thinks it over for a second before reaching his hand out to his father.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Greg:</strong> Deal!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<p>[so something I sorta been playing around with. It's a RTG game in which I've let the inner 13 year old just take over. Can't tell if I'm really immature, it's really late or if there's comedic value here. Probably not. But hey, I posted this.]</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>New England Wrestling</strong></p><p>

<em>Comedy. Immaturity. Road to Glory.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The ultimate show for the family is only at the Biker's Paradise! Why's that? We got everything. Super heros! Masked villains! Americans! Immigrants! Evil conservatives! Equal rights! Other religious deities!! And much, much, more! Check us out every second and fourth Friday of the month!! Starring the Stars of NEW!!!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Masked Mauler (#6)</strong></p><p>

<em>Possibly the greatest wrestler ever to grace the NEW, owner and first world champion of the company - The Masked Mauler (#6) is in NEW to provide one thing - an ass kicking of enormous proportions. And laughs for the ass kickings.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Son of Sam</strong></p><p>

<em>Formerly known as Matthew Keith, Son of Sam dropped the name Matthew Keith when he realized no one cared that his name was Matthew - just that he was the Son of Sam. Unfortunately, he has no idea of the serial killer of the same name and while he tries to play to the fans, he is constantly booed.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The American Dream</strong></p><p>

<em>A RTG character, TAD, as he calls himself, stands for truth, justice and the ability to be who you are, however you want to be. Unless it stands against 'Mericuh.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>A Man Named Jack!!!</strong></p><p>

<em>Faster then a speeding bullet, the Super Hero known as A Man Named Jack!!! is saving people all around the world with his super speed and super strength!! At least, he would have you believe that.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>"Big Baby" Perdition</strong></p><p>

<em>Formerlly Penfold Perdition, "Big Baby" Perdition gained his nickname while teaming with TAD and winning the belts, and he began to cry. Since then, the crowd has chanted "Big Baby" at him in every match and he carried a pacifier with him. Yes. A 400 lb man uses a pacifier.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ice Ice</strong></p><p>

<em>A fan favorite, Ice Ice was once a baby, but he is now a man and dropped the baby from his name. He's known for loving cold drinks, cold weather and colder New England. But he hates Dentyne Ice whom he is currently in a contract dispute with.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Otto</strong></p><p>

<em>The Artist Formerly Known As Melvin Otto, dropped Melvin in favor of Otto. Said, as a cult leader, it attracted more followers. Like Jesus did. Says he believes in hokey religion and thinks Han Solo shot first..</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Phobia</strong></p><p>

<em>A man who claims he has the phobia of every man in his mask, thanks to cult leader Otto, Phobia is actually claustrophobic and can be constantly seen trying to take off his mask during a match, which has cost Otto & Phobia more matches.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Male Love Machine</strong></p><p>

<em>Formerly Boriken Love Machine Jr., no one in NEW had any idea what Boriken meant and asked him if he would like to be called Male Love Machine, not explaining the differenced to the masked man. Unfortunately, he comes out to very campy music and is still unaware that Male Love Machine does not refer to his gender, but the gender he loves...</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ernest The Trashman</strong></p><p>

<em>Taking out the trash of NEW, The Trashman is... A trashman. His only objective most of the night is to empty trash cans, but he always seems to end up in the squared circle where he must defend the honor of all of the NEW Trash Recepticles.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Thunder</strong></p><p>

<em>Thunder, who claims to control the Lightning, is the self proclaimed Pride of Stockholm. The fact is, he isn't talented but he's large, foreign and good looking although there is possible use of steroids, Thunder claims it's juice from the gods.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Vikki Victoria</strong></p><p>

<em>(S)he's a drag queen. This was the default gimmick. How could NEW not keep it?</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Straight Edge Salvation Army - Irwin Guttman & Leon the Psycho Racist</strong></p><p>

<em>Originally called Cereberus, Leon the Racist Psycho became his nickname after joining the Straight Edge Salvation Army (SESA). The two men desire one thing - a clean human race. Free of drugs. Alcohol. Metal. And anything they don't quite agree with.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Dark Side of the Moon - BUZZ & Graham Cracker</strong></p><p>

<em>Graham Cracker is a metal head. He loves Metallica. And don't insult him. He also loves to mosh and drink. Buzz. likes to kick ass and ride bikes. That's about it. They fight off the Straight Edge Salvation Army. </em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Double R & Whitey Warren</strong></p><p>

<em>The announce team, formerly known as Roger Rogers and Warren Bonello (random gen.), have become the most hated duo in all of sports entertainment. Double R has become a bitter old man once he realized why he was hired - he was the token black guy. He began to hate everyone in the NEW because they're a bunch of "old dirty crackas" and Whitey Warren is a rich Texas oil man who helps the Straight Edge Salvation Army achieve their dream of a clean human race.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Coming (relatively) soon...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/Smackdown_vs_Raw_Boxart.jpg/250px-Smackdown_vs_Raw_Boxart.jpg

World Wrestling Entertainment 2004: The Future is in Their Hands (working title)

The mid-2000s is a somewhat reviled period in the history of the WWE. After buying out their mortal enemy, World Championship Wrestling, in 2001, many believed that Vince McMahon and the WWE had gotten lazy with their programming. With Triple H 'hogging' the World Heavyweight Championship on RAW and the perceived devaluing of the WWE Championship on Smackdown as well as the midcard titles on both shows, many fans see this time period as wasted on account of complacent and hapless writing.

But this time, it's different.

Maybe this time, Triple H won't hog the RAW spotlight and instead put over younger, newer stars. Maybe this time, Brock Lesnar won't spit in the face of the fans by 'selling out' to try out for the National Football League. On the other hand, maybe this time, maybe Randy Orton won't achieve his dream of becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion ever at the age of 24. And maybe Chris Benoit won't finally achieve HIS dream of becoming champion at the ripe age of 37.

Maybe, just maybe...

You'll have to read and find out! :D

Yes, my 1994 diary is still alive and well. I just want something that's going to move a little bit faster, as that one is a multiplayer game and this will be a single player one. Stay tuned!

OH MAN! My lack of knowledge (and disdain) for the mid-90's is a big reason why I don't predict on your awesome diary, but that won't be the case with this new one! I can't wait!

I'm glad I have my first follower! In case you haven't noticed I love the "hangover" periods right after the hugely successful eras lol.

I was debating between this and WCW '97 but I feel like I have a better grip on the identity of this one.

That being said, this was the era when I was REALLY into wrestling so I'm hoping I'm able to do it justice without straying too far from how WWE was in 04, atmosphere-wise. I have this booked to the Royal Rumble but I don't think I'm gonna start the diary at least until I book Wrestlemania XX because I still have to iron out all my plans. I'm excited for it though.

I'm glad you picked WWE :D (Didn't really get the chance to watch WCW all that much, though I'd imagine the NWO stuff got old pretty fast)

Ooh I'm curious to see how you deal with The Crippler. He gets a ton of hate (deservedly so) but WMXX was such a heartfelt moment between him and Eddie, I don't know how anyone can recreate it.

To sum it all up: I hope you finish writing WMXX soon 'cause I'm excited for this! :D

Everything up to and including Orton beating Benoit at SummerSlam (and the subsequent Evolution turn) is some of my favorite stuff that I watched on TV when I was an early teenager so it's gonna be kinda hard for me to find things that I really want to change.</p><p> </p><p> That being said, I'm one of those people that books Benoit fairly objectively. I don't find him to be a heinous person in 2004 simply because this is a game and therefore fiction. I just haven't decided yet whether or not I'm going to give him that perfect Wrestlemania moment. I have a handful of other potential WM main events and Rumble winners (currently booking the Rumble so this should take shape soon) in case I don't go that route. I'm just not sure if my WMXX ideas are as great as the final one that actually happened IRL. We'll see I guess <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> EDIT: I actually just watched WMXX the other night and I realized how daunting it was going to be to create an event that was better as a whole from top to bottom (well, top to midcard. The tag and cruiserweight title matches kinda sucked).</p>

Thanks Smash. I had a bout of insomnia last night and I was able to brainstorm a whole lot of ideas for this diary so it just might get started a little sooner than I anticipated <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>OOC: So like I stated in my GSW diary I got pretty much all my saves wiped out and in turn I am kinda in a wiped out mode to start something right up now. I do think in a few weeks I will be back in the mood and I got a general idea of what I am going to go with. I was torn between two, but one was a USPW idea I wanted to put on the backburner because there are two really good ones going on right now that are doing the company justice. So it might evolve as I plot, hmm and haw over things, but have a bit of a teaser.</p><p> </p><p>

<p>In April 2001, the pro wrestling video-distribution company RF Video needed a new promotion to lead its video sales when its best-seller — <span>Extreme Championship Wrestling</span> (ECW) — went out of business, and the rights to its brand name were purchased by <span>WWE</span>. RF Video also videotaped events held by other, less-popular, regional wrestling promotions; it sold these through its catalog and website. After months of trying to join CZW, RF Video's owner, Rob Feinstein, decided to fill the ECW void by starting his own pro wrestling promotion, and distributing its made-for-DVD/<span>VHS</span> productions exclusively through RF Video. </p><p> </p><p>

The first event, titled <strong><em>The Era of Honor Begins</em></strong>, took place on February 23, 2002 in <span>Philadelphia, Pennsylvania</span>, the former home area of ECW. It featured nine matches, including a match between <span>Eddie Guerrero</span> and <span>Super Crazy</span> for the IWA Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship; and, a <span>triple threat match</span> between <span>Christopher Daniels</span>, <span>Bryan Danielson</span> and <span>Low Ki</span> (who would become known as the "founding fathers of ROH"). ROH would then begin stealing top talents from other promotions such as JAPW and CZW. In its first year of operation, Ring Of Honor confined itself to staging live events in a limited number of venues and cities — primarily in the northeastern U.S.A. Ten shows were run in <span>Philadelphia, Pennsylvania</span>; two in <span>Wakefield, Massachusetts</span>; one in metro <span>Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania</span>; and, one in <span>Queens, New York</span>.</p><p> </p><p>

By the end of 2002, however Feinstein started to notice that some of his top stars were missing dates with ROH to work shows for NWA-TNA, MLW and ECWA. Feinstein put feelers out to attract some investors and for someone that could help keep the talent in ROH. The first offer he received was the one that even he couldn't turn down.....</p><p> </p><p>

<p>How do most people write Tommy Cornell's accent? I know he has a Lancashire accent, and that it's different from a Cockney accent which is how most non-UK people think all English speak. How would it be written (I mean how do you differentiate a word like car between two different US accents?), so would he just use more of the local phrases?</p><p> </p><p>

I know he has been in the US for a long time now, but I still don't think he should come across as having no accent.</p>

I actually disagree with PS. Being in America for so long would mean Cornell would be used to certain American terms and phrases by now IMO.

I imagine Cornell speaking much the same way Magnus does (Magnus is from Norfolk, but has a very RP accent. Not local at all). Magnus uses a lot of American phrases because he's IN America talking (mostly) to AMERICANS and has lived there for ages. I'd imagine him using most phrases that Americans do when referring to things ("block", "elevator", even that annoying thing they do with "anti"), just with his own accent. It's just a thing that happens when you're immersed in another culture.

However, if you do want to stereotype him a bit as a Lancastrian, here's a handy cheat sheet of potentially useful terms (note: I'm not Lancastrian. Geographically it's hard for me to be further away, but one of the most popular soap operas in Britain is set in Lancashire, so it's one of the better-known accents).

The golden rule of being Lancastrian - "The" is almost never said in Lancashire. You just take the 'he' out and append the t to the start of the previous word (unless it begins with t, in which case you just forget 'the' entirely). Similarly, you never go TO somewhere, you just go there. For instance:

"I'm going't shop, you want owt?" = "I'm going to the shop, do you want anything?"

Stop yer bickerin'! - Stop arguing/fighting.

Champion - Confusing in a wrestling context but in Lancashire it means "I'm well". Pronounced "champ'yun". As in:

"Alreet?"

"Aye, champion!"

To hit someone is to clobber or clowt them. Confusingly, "your clobber" is also your clothing or outfit.

If you've "got a cob on" you're annoyed. "What you got a cob on for?" = "What're you annoyed about?"

Any time you'd normally use an apostrophe to join two words, such as 'what have > what've', you can normally just omit the second word. "What have you got there?" becomes "what ya got there?". "How're you?" = "How you?"

"Is not" becomes "int". "That int right!"

Never say "nothing". In Lancashire it is ALWAYS "nowt". "Ain't got nowt to do wi'at" = "I have nothing to do with that".

Similarly, "something" is "summut". "I got summut for ya" (not "I've", remember the earlier rule? :p).

Although Lancastrians do use "mate" quite a lot for male friends, they often use "duck" too, especially for members of the opposite sex. Similar to the way a Cockney would use "darlin'".

Just a few things that'll make a character appear more Lancastrian. :)

William Regal is from Lancashire, and you can hear it sometimes even though he goes out of his way to put on a "posh" accent.

I'll agree with D-Lyrium that Tommy will have adopted Americanisms; that was more a warning against accidentally picking up inaccurate slang. However, as to the rest of what's quoted above...

Prefacing this, I live in Lancaster. The very most rural areas of the county have much stronger accents, but the 36-year-old Cornell has spent half his life in America. It's unlikely his accent's strong.

...

'Nowt' from the older generation, yes. It hasn't survived down to people currently in their thirties. 'Owt' has, paradoxically. Barring an extremely thick accent, people say 'the'. Summat is entirely accurate; duck can happen, but again, I wouldn't expect it from someone in their thirties.

What've becomes what; how're doesn't become how. Is not does become int, by and large.

I know one person living in Lancaster who uses the word 'champion'; my girlfriend. She grew up in Hartlepool, which is an entirely different action.

Clobber is still clothes - just about, but Tommy would've grown up with it - bickering is bickering, as it is through most of the North and Midlands, if not all of England. Never heard 'got a cob on' in all my time here; I've never even come across it being referred to. Mind you, I don't go to Preston if I can help it.

NOW.

D-Lyrium is nonetheless right that all of these are associated in the English mind with the county's accent. If Tommy were playing up not just his Englishness but his home county any could come out; if he just plays up Englishness, 'owt', 'summat' 'int' and saying 'aye' instead of 'yes' are the bits most likely to just come naturally through.

So take what he's said and use the bits you want. It'll give the right impression, albeit exaggerated.
