"Mixture of both" is pretty accurate -- I simmed forward ten years as a watcher and took over the company from there. The only federations that didn't arise/grow naturally (it's 3 cult and 17 regional, by the way) are the developmental feds I created in the database for TCW and USPW before starting the game. (I knew new worker development was going to be crucial, so I wanted everyone to have a means of developing them -- NOTBPW and CGC both have dev companies as well, though CGC went bankrupt in 2021. In practice, everyone's lower card got pretty bloated, but there are plenty of developed workers, so...) In my experience, a bunch of companies always grow to regional, and then sit there semi-indefinitely...

I'm pretty excited by how things are shaping up. I've started and abandoned a few dynasties in my past, which mostly arise from me going two shows and then realizing I haven't worked out enough ideas, or playing so far ahead of what I have written that I can no longer remember the details when I go back to write the shows up.

So I'm really making an effort to avoid that in a few ways. I'm not going to debut the dynasty until I have two months written in full (I'm almost through January right now, so... 1-2 weeks?), and the next four-plus (up to Supreme Challenge) sketched out in terms of the main storylines. I also wrote a new bio for each of the workers in an attempt to explain (to myself and the reader) what exactly they're up to lately. (And in the case of some of the generated workers, who they are in the first place.) And I'm writing as I play -- not after.

I'm also finding that having ten years of (assumed/actual) history to draw on is helping -- for example, champion Brandon James and Jack Bruce split two matches late in 2022, so they're building toward a blowoff match at Hell Freezes Over, right? Both Nicky Champion (we got him in '13) and Angry Gilmore have recent heel turns in their past, so let's say they turned together to feud with... they both have recent matches against Steve Frehley, so him. Why is Joe Sexy working as a commentator under the name "Joe Money" when Rich Money is still in the company? Speaking of Rich Money, how is the Almighty Dollar a face team now? Why is Jay Chord (we got him in '14) the second-most-over worker in SWF, but he's gotten only two world title shots in the last six years? And so on. Figuring out answers for all of these makes it easier to ask more questions...

Went out of town with my wife for a few days, but I'm wrapping up January, and have rough plans for the near future. The usual suspects, The Pilgrim (guess he had excellent potential), a remarkable young super-heavyweight called Craig Ward... etc.

I'm having the hardest time balancing the development of new stars, working the guys who I know will get me a great rating every time, and not giving too much away on TV.

I feel like things will get better when the guys I want to push up gain some traction -- I haven't played a promotion in years that's so overwhelmingly pop-based as SWF, and it's throwing me. I'll book a match between a lower midcarder on the rise and some jobber, both of whom are talented, so I figure the quality of the product will outweigh the fact that nobody much cares about the workers. Well, in some places it would, but here in Supreme we're looking at an E+. Blah.

I also need to learn to be okay with throwing a solid midcarder to a true main eventer, I think. Really struggling with finding good TV main event-type matches, mostly because I'm overprotective of the second tier UM/midcard types, who should be losing those matches to make the main event look good. Even with the ones who I envision moving into the main event later, I just need to keep telling myself it won't hurt their overness to lose a good match to a championship contender, and I can always push them up when it's time for them to go up.

Also need to stop treating the ME/UM veterans who are on the way out with kid gloves... Bruce, Garcia, Khoklov, et al. aren't part of my plans, and it's actually doing me a disservice in the long run if I don't drain their overness into the workers with a future while I still can.

Anyway -- enough giving myself a pep talk or whatever that was.

I'm thinking of doing a watcher's journal using my Effverse: Not Ready for Prime Time mod, where I watch one character and report on his career. The idea is that I'll be writing from the perspective of someone writing a blog in the future looking back on the career of one of their favorite wrestlers. I'll "look back" at the career of this wrestler and maybe post some match write ups or something.

Would anyone be interested in reading this? Any suggestions as for who to follow?

Great advice from NWAvsWWF. Writing out several shows before you even start the thread is always a good idea. If you can't get through 2 or 3 shows before you start the thread, then the diary would have certainly died very quickly regardless.

As for long term plans, I will also say that I would recommend having actual plans, not just ideas. There is a difference. Having an idea is thinking you will feud John Cena and CM Punk. Having a plan is taking the time to decide what the feud will be like. What are they feuding over? What do the promos sound like? You can book a show in the game without really knowing any of that - person A cuts a promo on person B, then later in the same show person B responds. But when you write it up, you need to have context. Detail. Specifics. Having plans around the feuds makes that far easier. You can book with just ideas but I don't think most can effectively write with just that.

Wow that's from awhile ago. Barely remember writing that. I still approach things much the same way, but I use a spreadsheet to keep track of everything and maintain a degree of organization. I couldn't image trying to do a diary project at this point without that.

SWF 2023 UPDATE

I've booked seven shows, written six and a half (still working on the last few bits of Nothing To Lose), and I've got the next two months after that planned out... especially excited about the SWF Canadian Tour of February-March. Booking just keeps getting easier as I get into the storylines and figure out better ways of organizing my thoughts.

Given that I've managed to get this far and don't seem to be slowing down (quite the opposite), I think it's safe to say that this dynasty is happening. But I did tell myself I'd wait until I had 10 shows fully written out before I started, in order to avoid the early stall-outs that have plagued my previous writing attempts, and give myself a backlog to work with. I also have to set up the Photobucket with the workers.

So... first week of June, probably?

The phoenix is a creature that takes the symbolism of a great blaze and flips it onto its head. Historically, fire is seen as a purely destructive act of nature or, in sadder cases, man. It is viewed as a destroyer life, a blight spreading across the land, engulfing anything and everything in its path. But the phoenix, an avian creature that spends the entirety of its life engulfed in flames, takes the blaze and reshapes it. Under the phoenix's control, fire comes to represent life, rebirth, and growth.

It's a beautiful concept, the imagery of which was not lost upon one Samuel Keith when his company, Mid Atlantic Wrestling, had outgrown its own name in 2018. Unfortunately for him, Steve Flash beat him to the punch, establishing his own Phoenix Wrestling Company in May of 2013 in the Tri State area. That said, the copyright infringement enforced by Flash's lawyers hasn't stopped Keith from utilizing the phoenix metaphor for his company, a comparison which is apparently still in the public domain. Time can only tell for how much longer. Jerry Eisen up North in the Supreme Wrestling Federation still seems dead set on owning everything his eyes fall upon, after all.

Even though the name "Phoenix" is unavailable to Sam Keith (Though he still fits the word into every press interview he performs) it remains an apt comparison. When Rip Chord founded Mid Atlantic Wrestling in the far-away year of 2005, he established one mission statement: to build the stars of tomorrow. Through men like Jay Chord, James Hernandez, Erik Strong, Steven Parker, Des Davids, Cameron Vessey, Casey Valentine, Natural Storm, and The Awesomeness, that mission proved successful. Even "Mean" Jean Cattely had found himself a comfortable position in the midcard of the SWF.

But when ol' Rip retired and Sam Keith took over the day to day operations, he quickly realized that that particular mode of operation was ineffective for a long term business interest at best. Keith asked himself, "Why should I build these stars and let them go on to bigger companies? What's in that for me?"

And he was right to question. How would MAW survive if it had to constantly scrounge the independent wrestling scene to find new stars to build only to be taken away? With this thought in mind, Sam Keith altered the course of MAW forever in 2013. Under his leadership, they would still train and create the wrestling stars of tomorrow, but instead of hot potato-ing them to a bigger company, MAW would keep them, and MAW would grow.

Keith hired back former champions American Patriot and Steven Parker, he snatched up unrealized prospects such as Spencer Spade and Kirk Jameson, and he gave future stars with such unrealized potential like KC Glenn and Ernest Youngman their first shots. Keith made them all stars, and he kept a tight leash on them all, only letting them take the occasional excursion to Japan. As a result, MAW grew to be a little too big for its own britches and had to eat a few more of its greens, as metaphor-weak Rip Chord would say. In normal-man's terms, MAW expanded exponentially, first reaching into the Great Lakes and the South East U.S., at which point Keith was able to secure a TV deal with National Pride TV.

The result was chaos. Here was a company, not even rated as a "cult favorite" on TEW.com, showcasing it's top talent on television each week. Sure they weren't touching SWF or TCW ratings, or even USPW numbers for that matter, but MAW was showcasing their talent just like top companies in the world. Soon, they had built an established market in the Tri State area and Puerto Rico, as well as burgeoning markets in the rest of the country. Mid Atlantic Wrestling had outgrown its name as well its original purpose. Now, it was something much more than it had ever been, and Sam Keith recognized that.

So, just over seven years after he had taken over Mid Atlantic Wrestling, Sam Keith made a change. He revamped the mission statement of the company, and he changed the name entirely.

The mission?

To become the greatest wrestling company in history.

Like a phoenix, Mid Atlantic Wrestling has set fire to itself, the flames breathing life into a company who's only purpose was to once do the same for others. When the fire's have been extinguished and Sam Keith raises his company once again, it will no longer stand as Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Instead, the words placed upon the company offices in Charlotte, North Carolina will read...
