Don’s Basement (North West)

Att 946 Thursday Week 3 July 2013

Pre Show DVD extras

Backstage, Alanis is reading the instructions for her new door lock when Pumpkin Jack barges in.

Alanis: (looking at the lock) “I really should have done this last night…”

Pumpkin Jack: “Pardon, I beg?”

Alanis: (confused) “I’m sorry?”

Pumpkin Jack: “Accept it, I. Talk to you about Intercontinental Title, I."

Alanis: “Let me guess, you want a shot at the title?”

Pumpkin Jack: “Great unification match, I see”

Alanis: “That’s awfully confident – Rhino Umaga is a tough opponent-“

Pumpkin Jack: “Pacific Title, I’m not talking about, though victory, I will assure. Zen Conceptual Champion, I am.”

Alanis: “Well, would ZEN mind you taking the title out of New Zealand?”

Pumpkin Jack: “Wearing it right, now I am.”

Alanis: (bewildered) “No, you’re not…I can see your midriff-“

Pumpkin Jack: “Yes, I am. (Taps waist) See the title design, can you not?”

Alanis shakes her head

Pumpkin Jack: “Beautiful, it is-“

Alanis: (despondent) “Please…you’re giving me a headache….”

Alanis then ushers Pumpkin Jack out of her office and shuts the door. Returning to her desk, she puts her head in her hands and sighs.

Alanis: “Maybe I’ll get Darryl to put the lock on the door after his match…” (D-)

KC Glenn and Thomas Morgan vs Alvin Starr and George Wolfe

Glenn and Morgan wrestle circles around their less experienced opponents, however Starr is able to locate the brass knuckles in his jumpsuit and clock Morgan mid STF. Starr then rolls Morgan into a cradle as Wolfe keeps Glenn out of the ring.

Winner – Alvin Starr and George Wolfe @8:17 (D)

Hugh de Aske bounds down the aisle…shaking the fan’s hands, he grabs a mic from the timekeeper and rolls into the ring.

De Aske: “Diamond! You cheated me last month! I’m tired of your antics and your arrogance! I’m the Fighter from Flanders, the unstoppable wrecking machine… Hugh de Aske and I’ m heading to the main event whether you like it or not. I want to face you again, next month, see if you can cheat me again!” (E)

DDD comes out on to the stage, slow clapping de Aske

DDD: “Well done Hugh…that was quite the little speech, you really are a fiery little underdog, aren’t you? You ain’t got the talent to main event, not while I’m the biggest star in this company! I accept your challenge for next month…young punk talent like you is just an easy pay day for me!" (E+)

Main show

Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Darryl Devine come out onto the stage to hype their title match later tonight. A shoving match breaks out, causing the roster to storm out the dressing room to break it up. (D-)

Hugh de Aske and Western Alliance vs The Architect and American Cobras w/ Carl Batch

A chaotic match between two evenly matched teams. Carl Batch is the difference though - an unfocused Svensson loses his concentration watching him at ringside, allowing Mallroy to hit a Marvel Breaker for 3.

Winner – The Architect and American Cobras @9:32 (D-)

At EPW’s interview point, Nelson Callum takes the mic and speaks

Callum: “Jameson! I’ve heard all the plaudits, all the talk of how you’re the Marksman, how you’re so clinical and how you’re one of the up and coming stars of this business. Well, you’re nothing compared to the Steel City Stud! I’ve got the looks, I’ve got the skills and I’ve got the looks. That’s right, I’m so good looking I said it twice….You may have the so called experts raving about you, but I got the track record and the titles. I don’t need hype, I can back it up in the ring…and in the bedroom…" (D-)

EPW Pacific Title Rhino Umaga © w/Carl Batch vs Pumpkin Jack

Pumpkin Jack milks his entrance to the ring, failing to notice the angry Samoan in the opposite corner of the ring. Too busy chatting to Ref Graveson, Jack doesn’t notice a charging Rhino – Savage Charge into the turnbuckles!

However, Jack had been too busy talking to Graveson to take off the ZEN Conceptual Title – Rhino comes away clutching his shoulder! Batch jumps on to the apron calling for the DQ, but Graveson can't see a title belt around Pumpkin Jack's waist...Jack capitalises with a springboard dropkick, 1-2- no, Rhino just kicks out! Pumpkin Jack tries to quickly set up a DDT, but a recovering Rhino slams him to the mat with a spinebuster! Catching his breath, Rhino stalks a winded Jack, then applies the Samoan Crab… Jack has no choice but to tap out.

Winner – Rhino Umaga @4:26 (D-)

Darryl Devine is at the EPW interview point backstage…

Darryl: “So Bulldozer, you’re time is finally up. You’ve had a run with the Intercontinental Title, you’ve had your moment in the sun. This is my time and I will win back the title tonight…tonight is the night for ‘Mighty Fine’ Darryl Devine to show what he can do.” (D-)

http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t495/Occasional_Z/EPW/DazzlingDaveDiamond_zpsfd54c62e.jpg VS http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t495/Occasional_Z/EPW/FordGumble_zps72830666.jpg

Dazzling Dave Diamond vs Ford Gumble

DDD is out of his element here, unable to goad the stoic Gumble into making a rash mistake. Gumble methodically wears Diamond down, then catches him with the Savate Kick for the win.

Winner - Ford Gumble @12:35 (D-)

Kirk Jameson is out next for his match. As he enters the ring, he motions for the timekeeper to pass him a mic

Jameson: “I really shouldn’t rise to it, but…Callum, you may doubt me but the Marksman always hits the target. Take that any way you want…all you need to understand is that I’m going to dispatch you tonight with accuracy. All I need to do is take one opportunity and the win is mine.” (E+)

http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t495/Occasional_Z/EPW/KirkJameson_zpsc22a77e6.jpg VS http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t495/Occasional_Z/EPW/NelsonCallum_zpse0d003db.jpg

Kirk Jameson vs Nelson Callum

Both see this as a chance to prove who the better young talent is and for the majority of the match, you would struggle to pick a winner. Eventually Callum telegraphs a back drop, allowing Jameson to hit the Bullseye (Knee Smash) to pick up the victory.

Winner – Kirk Jameson @ 20:14 (D)

Bulldozer Brandon Smith heads to the ring for the main event. Intercontinental Title draped over his shoudler

Bulldozer: "So your old lady got ya another title shot Devine, what a surprise...shame she can't wrestle me instead Devine, she probably got a better chance of winning. Given how her boy toys seem to get title shots, am I defending this belt against Starr next month?" (C-)

EPW Intercontinental Title Bulldozer Brandon Smith © vs Darryl Devine

Devine is a man on a mission - his desire for the title and his hatred of Smith see him beat down the champion in the early going. A missed Devine Intervention gives Bulldozer some reprieve, but Devine counters a suplex with a DDT and goes for the Devine Dream Drop...

...then Alvin Starr makes his way to ringside, guitar in hand. Devine abandons the Devine Dream Drop and climbs onto the ring apron to argue with Starr. The distraction allows Smith to lift Devine back into the ring...straight into a Backdrop Driver! 1-2-3!

Winner – Bulldozer Brandon Smith @28:26 (C+)

Overall – C-

Predictions

smwilliams - 4/6 I think Bulldozer is ok with being called 'Dozer...

Beeker - 3/6 I got a soft spot for DDD too, but Gumble needed a debut win.

Dragonmack - 4/6 The Trademark does better in your dynasty than mine...always hire him though, reliable worker.

Midnightnick - 4/6 I'm hoping that the game will pick Devine some new friends...it's already made a friendship relationship between Gumble and Ref Graveson after one show!

3rdStringPG - 4/6

So a draw this month - the tag matches threw everyone off. Mainly because American Cobras win in this dynasty. Everyone else seems to use them as jobbers.

So *that's* how Gumble beat DDD... he befriended and bought off the ref! I demand a rematch with an impartial official! Lies... all lies that a broken down lunk of a lug like a Ford could outshine a Diamond!

And... wow... that last match didn't exactly save the show but sure spiked it about 2 grades higher than it would have been otherwise.

I'm probably the only poster who considers 50% a good number as my predictions are always screwy.

That's a good point actually...between that and Devine's wife being owner, the heels have got good reason to be annoyed!

The last match and Bulldozer's promo definately saved the show. I thought Jameson and Callum would be better, put 'call in ring' as a road agent note though - Jameson doesn't have the psychology skills yet...

I strongly suggest you use the Devine/Gumble opportunity to make a small company that more appealing to attendees and readers.

The best heels are those with legitimate reasons.

Thursday Week 3 July 2013

Auto Battery, Seattle

http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t495/Occasional_Z/EPW/Seattlebar_zps81b4eb68.jpg

"...So, this guy comes up to Jetson and tells him that he was a huge fan, that he inspired him to get into wrestling. Jetson asks him if he worked on the card and this guy says yeah, I'm Mountie Mann...I thought Jetson was gonna kill him. Even when he's sober, he's thinking about whaling on mounties."

I could listen to Ed talk about Jon Jetson's Mountiephobia all night. Hell, I had...he had been telling me about Jetson for three hours and five beers. Once Ed started telling me about the time Jetson chased two mounties wearing only his wrestling boots, I was there for the evening.

How did I end up listening to Ed's road stories? I had decided that Alanis' suggestion was a good one - a night out with the EPW roster couldn't be that bad. So, while she was driving Pumpkin Jack and Nelson Callum to the airport, I proposed to the guys we go get drunk. I was having a good time, we had taken over the bar, the jukebox was blasting Aerosmith...life was pretty sweet. I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Darryl?"

It was Kirk Jameson. I hadn't really spoken with him before as Mainstream had recommended him to Alanis and she had dealt with the paperwork.

"Hey Kirk, you good?"

"Great thanks. Just wanted to come over and say thanks for the gig. I'm enjoying working with EPW."

Kirk offered me his hand, which I shook. Ed motioned towards the bar. I shook my head. Best I save Jetson vs Mounties Vol 2. for another night, want to get home at some point. Plus I wanted to speak with Jameson, get to know him better. Ed shrugged, then stumbled over to the bar

"Thanks man, it's been a pleasure working with you. Really enjoyed your match with Rhino last month."

"Appreciate it - Rhino deserves the credit though, he's easy to work with. Look, I've gotta head off now, got a flight in the morning but just wanted to catch up with you before I left. Had a great night, looking forward to seeing these guys again next month! Real tight knit old school backstage, know what I mean?"

I'm not sure Alanis wanted this to be a regular thing, but I was pleased Kirk had enjoyed himself. I understood what he meant too - the guys had really bonded. This wasn't USPW with it's backstage cliques or SWF, where everyone walked around on eggshells. This was like in the territory days. where everyone worked together.

I bid Kirk farewell, scanning the room as I watched him leave. DDD was telling two girls about how he knew the guy who invented the post it note, another of his tall tales. Gumble and Graveson were playing air guitar to 'Sweet Emotion' and Bulldozer was taking on all comers at arm wrestling, winning every contest while holding his beer. All was pretty good with the world, maybe Alanis-

"Darryl, THE ARCHITECT has been asked to leave this establishment as THE ARCHITECT has barfed into a pot plant. Could you and THE ARCHITECT go to a different bar where the room is not spinning and find beautiful Amazon women?"

Damn Alanis. Why did I ever listen to her?

Friday Week 3 July 2013

Darryl and Alanis' house, Seattle

NURRRGHH..........

NURRRGGHHHHH

My head...where am I? I think this is....oh, ok I'm at home. In the office (where I work, Jacob). My head is killing me, but let me check...keys, phone, wallet...yup, I made it home ok. It's 12:17pm, best check what damage I've done, hope Alanis hasn't seen anything...

I headed into the lounge and checked the room.

TV is ok, shoes in the hall, no damage, no takeout wrapping, EPW roster is asleep on the floor, cat is fine.....

...wait what was the last one? Oh, the cat...stupid cat. My head is killing me...hang on, the cat isn't the iss-

"Darryl!!!"

I'm in trouble...it's all coming back to me now....

"Why are the guys asleep on the floor! And why is Architect wearing my dressing gown?"

I need to buy some time, think of a clever answer and ride out the stor-

"Can you please keep the noise down? THE ARCHITECT is sleeping!"

I'd better ring Jacob now, see if the couch is available....

Can I just say... I love The Architect. I just picture him screaming, "The Architect wants a whiskey sour. The Architect wants it for free!"

That would be THE ARCHITECT!

And THE ARCHITECT is here to inform you that French Doors are so last century. THE ARCHITECT is all about the Moroccan Doors now. Fix this now before THE ARCHITECT gets peeved!

(THE ARCHITECT never gets angry).

Monday Week 4 July 2013

Jacob's apartment, Toronto

"So what have you-"

"Yeah, yeah, I told you on the phone. Let the guys sleep over, Architect ruined her dressing gown, it's low on the Devine Scale."

"How low?"

"Lower than usual. Probably would have got away with it if DDD hadn't got out of the shower and strolled downstairs naked."

"Guess that's high enough for you to come visit me, Katie and the couch?"

"I was due a trip to see you anyway."

"True, how's things?"

"Really well - the guys all get on and the company is growing. How's life in the big leagues?"

J laughed. I knew that laugh from when I use to discuss USPW with indie workers. It meant the money and backstage perks were great, but the wrestling left a lot to be desired.

"It's going ok. Not sure why I'm wearing a mask though."

I didn't get why J was wrestling as his old lucha gimmick Jetstream either.

"No way they can broadcast your face on TV, J."

"Least they didn't fire me for it!"

"Hey, I resigned...that's much better."

"For people who don't want to see your ugly face, yeah!"

I didn't have time to go round in circles with ugly here.

"Can I use your computer?"

J laughed and waved me into the office

"You're the only one who ever uses it - Katie has an Ipad and I can play GTA on my phone, don't need it. What do you need it for?"

"Wanna e-mail Alanis with next month's card, get back into the good books"

"Cool, what you got planned?"

Alvin Starr vs Johnny Heizenger

Nigel Svensson vs The Architect

Dark Match - American Cobras w/Carl Batch vs Thomas Morgan and KC Glenn

Darryl Devine and Kirk Jameson vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Rhino Umaga w Carl Batch

since I assume Devine and Jameson are the main challengers, they get the win here

Hugh de Aske vs Dazzling Dave Diamond

while I have not always had de Aske rise up in the past, I have never gotten anything out of Triple D

Ford Gumble vs George Wolfe

While I'd use Gumble to put people over, Wolfe isn't one that I'd be putting over right now

Alvin Starr vs Johnny Heizenger

While Elvis may win for storyline reasons, I think the Ant Man has more potential

Nigel Svensson vs The Architect

The Architect will scream in pain as The Architect is stretched into a pretzel and taps out.

Dark Match - American Cobras w/Carl Batch vs Thomas Morgan and KC Glenn

I know you are actually pushing the Cobras, but really, the better performers are Morgan and Glenn hands down.

- Pretty much what D'Mack said. Challengers win a tag match to further the rivalry.

Hugh de Aske vs Dazzling Dave Diamond

- Now Alanis knows why he's called Dazzling!

Ford Gumble vs George Wolfe

- Wolfe just screams WWF 80s jobber name and pic to me.

Alvin Starr vs Johnny Heizenger

- Oh, that's who Heizenger is... Ant Man. Meh. He's good... but he's no Starr!

Nigel Svensson vs The Architect

- THE ARCHITECT doesn't like Ikea. THE ARCHITECT will not lose to a Nigel. THE ARCHITECT has spoken.

Dark Match - American Cobras w/Carl Batch vs Thomas Morgan and KC Glenn

- I believe this is the dynasty where the Cobras occasionally win.

Finally caught up on all of this and it gave me several good chuckles this morning. Good to see The Architect getting some love. He has always been a personal favorite of mine.

Glad to hear it! Architect has always been a favourite of mine, I think it's his render...looks arrogant yet kinda dumb!

Dark Match – American Cobras w/Carl Batch vs KC Glenn and Thomas Morgan

With the titles not on the line, the Cobras are far too casual and Glenn and Morgan dictate the match with some quick tags. Carl Batch has to trip Glenn for Spillane to apply a Kneeling Boston Crab for the submission victory.

Winner – American Cobras @7:43 (D)

The Architect makes his way down to the ring, mic in hand

Architect: “Ladies and gentlemen, THE ARCHITECT is here to make a major announcement! Can Alanis Devine come to the ring please?”

Alanis comes down to the ring, looking confused

Alanis: “You wanted me to come down?”

Architect: “Yes, I did. THE ARCHITECT wants you to award him his title."

Alanis: “I’m not just giving you any EPW titles-“

Architect: “-THE ARCHITECT does not need EPW titles. THE ARCHITECT is talking about the ARCHITECT SUPERCHAMPION OF THE ARCHITECT!”

Alanis: “…”

Architect: “Can you please award me my title?”

Alanis: “…do you have a belt?”

Architect: “I am the title.”

Alanis: “ What?”

Architect: “I am my own title!!!”

Alanis: (Losing temper) “Look…winner of you and Nigel Svensson is the Superchampion of the Architect-“

Architect: “-That’s ARCHITECT SUPERCHAMPION OF THE ARCHITECT.”

Alanis: “Whatever.”

Alanis storms up the ramp to the back. In the ring, Architect makes the ‘title belt round the waist’ motion to the crowd (D)

Winner –The Architect @9:24 (E+)

Darryl Devine marches out on stage looking for Alvin Starr. Memphis’s finest jumps Devine and a brawl breaks out! The roster quickly empties out to break them up….(E-)

Hugh de Aske vs DDD

De Aske runs over DDD to start – the Texan has to bail to the floor to regroup several times! DDD manages to catch de Aske on the floor with a low knee and taunts the crowd as he catches his breath.

DDD drags de Aske back into the ring but sees a back drop countered into a sunset flip. DDD tries to grab the ropes, but in a moment of poetic justice, Ref Graveson kicks his hands away! de Aske with the roll up for 3!

Winner – Hugh de Aske @9.40 (D-)

Alvin Starr is backstage at the EPW interview point

Starr: (to interviewer) “Naw, I don’t wanna talk about Joe Hezanger, that guy’s dull, like watching paint watching paint dry! Devine! You’ve touched my girl, messed up my hair and I got reason to believe you stole my favourite guitar pick! Cost you the title? Don’t give me that guitar pick back I’ll cost you your career! Alvin Starr vs Johnny Heizenger w/ Katie Cameron

Starr is on the run from the bell, with the powerful Heizenger chasing him down. Finally, Starr gets caught in the Antidote, only for the brass knuckles to come into play. A sneaky shot to the back of Heizenger’s head and Starr gets the pin.

Winner - Alvin Starr @7:15 (E+)

DDD comes out on to the stage, ready to address the crowd

DDD: “Stop the show! I can’t believe this! A star was robbed in his match…to a bum, a scrub…and no-one appeals the decision? Ref Graveson kicked me in the face and no-one says anything? Last month he helped his BFF Ford Gumble win, (Graveson shouts at DDD, who responds by playing air guitar at him) now he’s getting physically involved? What’s next, will he try and bodyslam me next month?”

Alanis Devine comes out, looking frustrated

Alanis: “Dave…is this going anywhere?

DDD: “Yes – I want the result of my match overturned and Graveson suspended."

Alanis: (angry) “Ref Graveson did the right thing. If that decision was to be overturned, then your last win over Hugh de Aske would need to be overturned too as you were holding the rope when you made the pin.”

DDD: (outraged) “That is a blatant lie! A small child was lost in the crowd and I was trying to reassure him.”

Alanis: “Don’t you dare lie to me!!! Unless you want to review your working arrangements? Maybe head out to New York again?

Thought not…get off the stage and stop wasting time!"

DDD slinks off the stage as Alanis glares at him (D+)

Ford Gumble vs George Wolfe

Wolfe is out of his depth here – he may be bigger and stronger than Gumble, but Gumble has fought and defeated many bigger and stronger men than him. Hit and run gameplan is effective and the Savate Kick finishes the match.

Winner – Ford Gumble @ 5:39 (D-)

Darryl Devine and Kirk Jameson vs Bulldozer Brandon Smith and Rhino Umaga w/ Carl Batch

The faces are much smaller, and thus have to be more careful. Quick tags work until Bulldozer cheap shots Jameson, allowing the heels to work on ‘The Marksman”.

Jameson takes a beating, but eventually dodges a Savage Charge and hot tags Devine, who clears house. Spilling to the outside, Devine brawls with Rhino, with Bulldozer and Jameson following. Ref Graveson tries ushering the men back inside, but no-one is paying attention. Graveson doesn’t want to count out the teams in the main event, but eventually has to DQ Rhino for smashing Devine with a chair!

Winner - Devine and Jameson @28:23 (C-)

With Devine down, Jameson has to fend for himself. He whips Bulldozer into the post, but gets wiped out by a Rhino clothesline. Rhino throws Jameson back into the ring and gives him a Samoan Drop, then a Savage Charge! (D)

Devine groggily crawls back into the ring to try and help Jameson, but he’s no match for Rhino and a recovered Bulldozer. It’s looking bleak until Ford Gumble runs to the ring! Rhino goes for a Savage Charge, but Ford sidesteps, sending the monster to the floor! Bulldozer jumps Gumble and hoists him for a Backdrop Driver, but Gumble slips out – Savate Kick! (E+)

As Bulldozer is lying dazed on the canvas, Alanis Devine comes out on stage

Alanis: “In answer to your question last month, Brandon – no you won’t face one of my toy boys next. You’ll be facing experienced veteran Ford Gumble at EPW Fell On Black Days. Better start preparing…" (D+)

Overall D+

Sorry for the delay in posting that show, was ill last weekend

Predictions

Dragonmack - 3/6 Your picks made sense, really I should give my booking 3/6...as you said, it was storylines over ability this month :)

smwilliams - 5/6

Midnightnick - 5/6 Glad you enjoyed the Mountie Mann story

Beeker - 5/6 Good shout on Wolfe...now you mention it, he does look like fodder for Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Ultimate Warrior

So a tie there - everyone went against de Aske. To be fair, I was tempted as well, de Aske hasn't blown me away so far.
