Bobby Thomas vs John McClean McClean still has unfinished business with Nate Johnson, and he came up short last time. He needs to show that he can at least beat Nate's former partner (which Nate didn't mange to do).

Nate Johnson vs Whippy The Clown Whippy = job fodder against everyone else......ecept maybe Grayson

Pow Wow The Clown vs Sean Deeley Go Go Pow Wow!

Trent Shaffer vs Ricky DeColt Since my prediction is for Shaffer to win the series....

Stevie Grayson vs Zeus Maxmillion This is a given.......although it'll be pretty hilarious if it turns out that the one person in the series that Zeus loses to (and costs him the series) turns out to be Grayson. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Also, quick question. What do you think of how I’m covering some of these matches in ‘highlight’ form? With just the finishes. Is it enough information, or do you find yourself a little disappointed when certain matches don’t get a full write-up?

I have no problems with that. I've always admired the way you always manages to make the match writeups short and sweet but still allows me to visualise the match in my head at the same time. Whenever I try to write up a match myself, I keep falling into the trap of going into play-by-play, move-by-move details and end up with one long-ass essay just for one match (and end up updating my diary 2 weeks behind schedule as a result). I think your style is great.

And the "highlights" for the house show matches are perfect. Exactly what I can imagine seeing on video highlight packages on TV.

Gotta give this some love, been a while since I've been so interested in a diary I read the whole thing at once. This is awesome, nice work

Davis Ditterich “This Friday! In The Company Of Legends. Can Jack DeColt figure out a way to take out the monstrous Poison?”

Catherine Quine “Tonight, Ricky DeColt and Trent Shaffer do battle in the Ultimate Showdown Series. They both sit near the top of the leaderboard. This is a big one, and we’ve got The Elite’s Sean Deeley on commentary to give us his expert advice.”

Sean Deeley “i am told i am sponsored by beaver buzz. i am sure it is delicious.”

POISON stands in the middle of the ring, staring ahead with cold, dead eyes. No expression. No emotion. SOOTHSAYER is at his side, microphone in hand.

SOOTHSAYER

The future is here. The future is Poison. One DeColt has already felt

his wrath. Alex DeColt did everything in his power to stop him, but

Poison isn’t a puzzle to be solved. He has no fear. He has no flaw.

Alex ran from him, and at ‘In The Company Of Legends’, Jack will

run too. One by one, the relics of the past will prove inferior to the

champions of the future. Bring everything you’ve got, Jack DeColt.

Poison will be ready.

ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN SERIES

4pts - BOBBY THOMAS VS JOHN McCLEAN - 3pts

Sean Deeley “john mcclean’s ground game is very good. so is bobby thomas’s.

John McClean smoothly takes Thomas to the ground, using expert technical ability to roll him, turn him, and even ride him like a horsey. Thomas snaps his arm over the ropes and works over the limb in methodical, business-like fashion, using his knees to their full advantage. McClean deftly counters the Specialist Touch (Single Arm DDT) Neckbreaker! Face Wash!

http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/NateJohnson_S_zpsb3248f4f.jpg

NATE JOHNSON sprints to ringside and leaps onto the apron, distracting McClean long enough for Thomas to blindside him with a High Knee to the back of the head. 1... 2... 3!

EARNING 2 POINTS VIA PINFALL

BOBBY THOMAS (7:45)

Nate Johnson jumps for joy, laughing at John McClean. Bobby Thomas looks confused, but pleased.

Mortals watch in awe as JENNY PLAYMATE interviews the Bronzed God; ZEUS MAXMILLION. Oh, right, STEVIE GRAYSON is also there.

JENNY PLAYMATE

It's the Ultimate Showdown Series! Zeus Maxmillion, you’re second

on the table with seven points. Stevie Grayson, you are dead last

with zero points. In just a few moments you go head to head. Will

your friendship in any way effect the result?

ZEUS MAXMILLION

By the Power of Olympus, The Bronzed God has laid waste to all that

have dared come across his path. I have gathered what the puny mortals

call ‘points’ as a symbol of my valor. I shall not cease until they are all

in my possession. I shall rip the ‘points’ from the beating heart of all who

wish to fight me, even Stevie, Son of Gray.

ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN SERIES

0pts - STEVIE GRAYSON VS ZEUS MAXMILLION - 7pts

Sean Deeley “adrian says i hate them both, but i hope stevie wins.”

Stevie ducks, dips, dives, dodges and strikes out with hit and run tactics, but he lacks killer instinct. By the power of Olympus, Zeus fights back with left hands and a spinebuster. Stevie leapfrogs a backbodydrop and goes for a Tornado DDT, but Zeus summons Godlike strength to turn it into Thunder Bolt (Sit Out Bomb) 1... 2... Kick out! Zeus hesitates only a moment, before locking his friend in the Olympian Clutch (Camel Clutch) Stevie taps.

DECOLT LOCKER ROOM

http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/JackDeColt_S_zps1871a9cd.jpghttp://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/RickyDeColt_S_zps16a827de.jpghttp://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/HotstuffMarie_S_zps1ff6afda.jpg

An innocent training dummy stands in the middle of the room, with a tiny ‘X’ on a spot over the right collarbone. WHAM! JACK DECOLT hits the dummy with a big right hand. RICKY DECOLT and HOTSTUFF MARIE watch closely.

RICKY DECOLT

Too high.

Jack lays into the pad with right hand after right hand.

RICKY DECOLT

Left a bit. Lower. Lower. Lower. Too low.

Getting more and more pissed off with every millimeters-off-target blow, Jack throws a wild shot to the dummy’s face, practically breaking it.

JACK DECOLT

This is stupid. I’m just gonna punch him in the face. Why fix what

ain’t broken?

RICKY DECOLT

Because it didn’t work. You tried that before, and Poison barely even

wobbled. Alex watched every second of footage since Poison started

drinking that potion, and the only thing he’s seen phase him is a

precision strike. Right there. That one, tiny spot. It’s the only chance

you’ve got, Jack. So if you can’t get your aim under control, I don’t

know how you’re going to beat him.

Ricky snatches a bottle of water from Marie. Not appreciating the attitude, she pinches him on the collarbone. Ricky yelps and goes down.

SEAN DEELEY ducks Star Treatment (Super Kick) and launches POW-WOW THE CLOWN with a Bridging German Suplex. 1... 2... Deeley releases the hold himself and applies a Seated Arm Stretch. Pow-Wow taps! (Sean Deeley earns 3 points)

Sean Deeley “trent cheated to beat me, so next time i fight him i am going to rip his arm off and beat him to death with it. i am also not fond of ricky decolt.”

DeColt overpowers him early, but Trent’s fast. Scary fast. Practically caving in Ricky’s chest with a dropkick, before ruthlessly attacking the sternum with sharp elbow strikes, compromising his ability to breathe, constantly looking to lock in the Vampiric Embrace (Sleeper) Ricky fights back with high-intensity, high-risk offense. Epic dropkick. Running Bulldog. Struggling to breathe, he’s a step slower climbing up top, and misses the High Fly Elbow.

”One Minute Remaining”

Trent removes the turnbuckle pad, forcing Referee Francis Long to turn his back on the action. Trent aims for the testicles, but Ricky catches his foot, spins him, DeColt 45 (Roll Inverted DDT). He makes the cover, but Long’s back is still turned. Ricky goes to fetch him. Low Blow! Trent prepares the glitter, but- Wait! Francis Long saw it! He calls for the bell!

Looks like Poison is getting over nicely. He really is one I wanted to have some bigger plans for, but I am just wanting to push too many people at once and sadly he has kinda been shuffled off. Might just have to remedy that once his spat with Powell is over with.

Do these bonus matches count towards the points in the overall series, or are they just exhibition matches?

The bonus matches do count towards the points. Same system as the standard matches. Fought to one fall. Pin gets 2pts. Submission gets 3pts. Draw gets 1pt. DQ is minus 2pts.

Deeley's a guy whose entertainment skills aren't as bad as his reputation suggests, and he's young. Plenty of time to learn to be a decent promo. That 'C' range of stats. Plus he's kinda fun to write now I've figured out his particular cadence.

Catherine Quine “Will we see the Clowns work together, or-”

Pow Wow immediately jumps Whippy, who plays him for a fool with tumbling and simple mime tricks. Clownziguri! Stevie ducks, dips, dives, dodges and peppers the clowns with hit and run tactics, until Pow Wow accidentally trips him with his oversized clown shoes. The sad clown presses the advantage, bending the rules as much as possible until Whippy springboards to the rescue. Clowndrags. Dropclowns. German Clownplex to Grayson!

Stevie rolls out of the way of a Clownsault, but eats Star Treatment (Super Kick). Pow Wow goes for Star Treatment on Whippy. It’s ducked. HuriClownRana! 1... 2... 3!

Strange Chimes sounds, and Soothsayer appears in the ring.

SOOTHSAYER

I’ve seen the future. A future where the relics of the past have been

forgotten, and new champions have risen in their place. Alex DeColt

is gone. Jack DeColt will soon follow. But the DeColt Family aren’t the

only ones who need to pay heed to the sands of time. It is time for others

to bow down in the face of the future. It is time I showed my own power.

Davis Ditterich “For weeks we’ve known him only by his voice, now the Soothsayer will show us what he can do in the ring.”

It's almost as though Soothsayer knows exactly what Seeker's going to do, the way he casually avoids the agile attacks and strikes out with sharp jabs and stinging kicks. Overhead Kick! Seated Face Plant! Thrill Seeker fires back with a innovative kicks of his own, and goes for the Daredevil Drop (Fame Asser) but Soothsayer sees it coming and turns it into a powerbomb. He gracefully leaps up top, and hits the Harbinger (Flying Flip Neckbreaker) for the win.

Davis Ditterich “The Samoan Wildboyz are making waves in the tag team division, but can they unseat the champions?”

The Elite waste no time in isolating the smaller Samoan. Dan DaLay beats down Tama with clubbing blows and charges into the turnbuckles. Chandler takes the fight to the ground and starts grinding him into the mat, practically humping him. Tama creates space with a surprise flip, a spike DDT, and makes the tag! Akima Umaga runs wild with head butts. Samoan Drop! Golden Gate Bridge (Northern Lights)! Chandler bails, and Tama Toma wipes him out with a suicide dive. Akima climbs up top, signaling for a headbutt, but Adrian Garcia clings onto his leg, holding him long enough for- BACKFIST! 1... 2... 3!

series, yet you've been struggling to pick up points considering-

NATE JOHNSON

Wait. Woah. Shut up. I haven't been 'struggling'. I've just been a victim

of two major injustices. First, the unfair 10 minute time limit. Second, the

interference of John McClean. He has it out for me. I was too good for

him back in 2000, and I'm too good for him now. I beat him fair and

Fair and square? Careful now, Nate. Seems like all those chemicals in

your fake tan are making your brain go fuzzy. You're a cheater, Nate

Johnson. It's why we didn't get along back in the day. It's why I'm

gunning for you now. Luckily, I get my chance for satisfaction in

tonight's bonus match. See you on the battlefield.

MID-TABLE MADNESS BONUS MATCH

Davis Ditterich “Our second Ultimate Showdown Series Bonus match! Ricky DeColt has dropped several points lately, starting with his time limit draw with John McClean.”

Catherine Quine “The real story is with McClean and Johnson. Nate got the win in their series match. McClean is out for revenge.”

Ricky bombards Johnson with high-risk, high-intensity offense. John McClean smoothly takes DeColt to the ground, using expert technical ability to roll him, turn him, and even ride him like a horsey. Johnson suplexes them both out of their boots, and beats them down, showing off for the cameras and smiling an insincere smile. McClean and DeColt use teamwork to fight back. Corner Dropkick! Face Wash!

McClean tries to hit the Stain Removal (Pancake Faceplant) but DeColt reverses with a Running Bulldog and climbs up top. Johnson shoves him into the outside barricade! Johnson celebrates, but walks into Stain Removal! 1... 2... 3!

A midget wearing a suit and a bald cap runs into the ring and steals the ring announcer's microphone. Members of security chase him around to try to retrieve it, but to no avail.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's SUPER-PRICE, flying down to the ring by way of a sturdy harness. Cape flowing in the wind and trunks leaving nothing to the imagination, Super-Price quickly corners the bald midget, flexing his mighty muscles.

Suddenly, the midget whips out a glowing green rock, causing Price to recoil in pain. Victorious, the bald midget dances around and- drops the green rock. Super-Price rises to his full, formidable height and boots the midget from the ring, before returning the microphone to its rightful owner.

Super-Price overpowers Golden with ease, until Ozzie Golden suckers him in with a smoldering pout and attacks with grace and malice of forethought. ADRIAN GARCIA looms over SEAN DEELEY as he warms up with a quick 300 sit-ups.

ADRIAN GARCIA

You know who won the first Ultimate Showdown Series? It was Eddie

Chandler. He used the three wishes to take The Elite to new heights. You

know who won the second Ultimate Showdown Series? Jack DeColt. He

used the three wishes to make our lives a living hell. I’m telling you this,

Sean, because I get the feeling you’re not taking the Ultimate Showdown

Series seriously.

You only have six points so far. Zeus Maxmillion has ten. I don’t know if

you took any math in school, Sean, but TEN IS MORE THAN SIX. I

will not spend another year with an enemy of The Elite dangling three

wishes over our heads! So get it together, Sean. Or-

Relax, Sean. We may be opponents tonight, but we all know who the real

enemy is in that ring. With three wishes in Zeus Maxmillion’s possession,

he’s a threat to your little club, and he’ll keep me from my one true love. I

propose a truce. For one night, we put our differences aside to make sure

Zeus loses. We take him out, then Sean can do whatever he wants to me.

FANTASTIC FOURSOME BONUS MATCH

TRENT SHAFFER (6) VS SEAN DEELEY (6) VS BOBBY THOMAS (6) VS ZEUS MAXMILLION (10)

Davis Ditterich “These four men top the leaderboard so far. One more than the others. Zeus has a commanding lead.”

Catherine Quine “Will the other three vastly different personalities be able to work together to stop him from picking up even more points?”

Shaffer, Deeley & Thomas immediately jump Zeus, who manages to fend them off with herculean left hands before being overwhelmed. ‘Shooter’ pounces repeatedly for the left arm and twists it at unholy angles, mercilessly attacking every single joint. ‘Just Business’ works over the same limb in methodical, business-like fashion, using his knees to their full advantage. Only the ‘Sparkling Vampire’ ignores the arm, in favour of trying to ruthlessly cave in Zeus’ chest with sharp elbow strikes.

Following Adrian Garcia’s orders, Deeley makes a cover, kickstarting a massive brawl between the three villains. Spike DDT to Thomas. German Suplex to Shaffer. Specialist Touch to Deeley. Zeus summons up godlike strength to battle back and launch his opponents around the ring. Twisting Spinebuster to Deeley! Thunder Bolt (Sit Out Bomb) to Shaffer! Olympian Clutch (Camel Clutch) on Thomas! ‘Just Business’ is on the verge of tapping when Deeley breaks it up with a German Suplex and the Seated Arm Stretch. He wrenches and wrenches and- Trent flies off the top, missile dropkicking Deeley and landing on top of Zeus with a senton. 1... 2... 3!

TRENT SHAFFER (14:02)

An overjoyed Trent Shaffer flees up the ramp, as Deeley glares at him. Adrian Garcia yells at Deeley, throwing him a chair and drawing his attention to Zeus Maxmillion, clutching his hurt arm.

“Finish the job!”

SEAN DEELEY slams a chair into Zeus’ shoulder, before pouncing on the arm and locking in the Seated Arm Stretch again! He wrenches and wrenches and wrenches. Security rush in a split second after a sickening CRACK!

JACK DECOLT

Davis Ditterich “Has Jack DeColt found a way to defeat Poison? His new nerve hold seemed effective last Sunday, but will it be enough?”

Nothing Jack does seems to work. Punches to the face don’t phase him. Other punches to the face are shrugged off. He tries to Punch! Him! In! The! Face! But Poison just eats the blows and fires back, taking him apart with deadly right hands. Suddenly, Jack applies the Nerve Hold! Squeezing the precise point just above Poison’s right collarbone. Poison recoils in pain, but- Poison Mist! Jack is blind! Poison goes for the Ripcord Lariat, but Jack ducks it and takes him down to the mat, controlling him with simple but effective mat wrestling until he can get the mist from his eyes.

Unfazed, unfeeling, unblinking,*Poison powers free and launches Jack from corner to corner with unnatural ease. Jack’s rage builds and builds until he explodes, throwing wild haymakers in the vague area of Poison’s weak spot. Some hit the mark, but not enough, so he jumps on Poison’s back, locking his legs around his waist and applying the Nerve Hold! Poison feels pain! He fights and struggles and hurls himself into the turnbuckles, but Jack won’t let go. So Poison hurls the both of them into Referee Francis Long instead.

http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCminor/SoothsayerS_zps6bd34ea4.jpg

Seemingly appearing out of thin air, SOOTHSAYER flies off the top rope with a double stomp to Jack DeColt’s right hand.

http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/RickyDeColt_S_zps16a827de.jpg

Before Soothsayer can do any more damage, RICKY DECOLT sprints down to ringside. The mysterious masked man makes a getaway.

Poison rises, stalking Jack with cold, dead eyes. He winds up the Ripcord Lariat, but Jack ducks! Wild Ride (Reverse Death Valley Driver)! 1... 2... Kick out. Jack quickly locks on the body scissors and tries to apply the nerve hold, but his right hand is too much pain. Poison powers free. Ripcord Lariat! 1... 2... 3!

YOUR WINNER... POISON (23:12)

Ricky and Marie DeColt quickly enter the ring to check on Jack, but there’s no need. Soothsayer calls Poison away, content with the damage done. Jack clutches his mangled and broken hand.

Bit of a subpar PPV. The ratings were fine. They raised popularity. However, on a narrative level, the card was hardly worthy of ‘above average’ importance. It’s a fairly typical problem I have when running multi-month tournaments and leagues in my private games. The PPV’s end up being stuffed with middle-of-the-road league matches, and the other matches have little to no build. This one also suffered from no World Title match.

Truthfully, the original plan was far more exciting, but one story arc was postponed due to the USS taking up more space than expected, and another just plain didn’t work out. I tried to write it. Couldn’t. I often envision CGC on the scale of TNA, so it’s not like every PPV is going to be a winner. Hell, if it made financial sense in TEW (and I wasn’t holding myself to a certain level of tradition) I’d have dropped it 6 PPV’s per year. A more television-centric model has a lot of appeal to me.

http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p366/celdom/CGCmain/Banner_zpsac259299.jpg

There’s a topic on in the TEW General Discussions forum, asking about your top matches in the guise of a “Best Of” DVD. We’re around the halfway point of the year, so here’s “CGC - Best of 2013 - Volume 1”:

Trent Shaffer vs Alex DeColt (Title Bout Wrestling. January Wk1 2013) Alex solves the puzzle of the Sparkling Vampire on the first episode of television of the year.

The Elite vs The DeColts (CGC Elimination. January Wk3 2013) The DeColts outlast The Elite in their traditional, annual 3-on-3 war.

Sean Deeley vs Alex DeColt (Title Bout Wrestling. February Wk4 2013) Alex DeColt tricks ‘Shooter’ by taping up a healthy arm.

DaLay & Chandler vs Jack & Ricky DeColt (Title Bout Wrestling. March Wk1 2013) Rage taking over, Jack DeColt goes berserk and leaves his brother to be defeated.

Nate Johnson vs Alex DeColt (Title Bout Wrestling. March Wk2 2013) Eddie Chandler tricks the World Champion by having his nephew pose as a terminally sick child.

Eddie Chandler vs Alex DeColt (CGC WrestleFestival Night 1. March Wk4 2013) Alex doesn’t fall for the usual tricks, but The Elite have paid off a referee.

Trent Shaffer vs Jack DeColt (CGC WrestleFestival Night 2. April Wk1 2013) Jack DeColt finally gets payback and destroys The Sparkling Vampire.

Gargantuan & Bobby Thomas vs Jack & Ricky DeColt (Title Bout Wrestling. April Wk2 2013) Jack turns over a new leaf to help his brother earn a Canadian Title match.

John McClean vs Sean Deeley (Chaos In The Cage, May Wk3 2013) The Ultimate Showdown Series begins with a big return.

Jack & Alex DeColt vs Dirty White Boys (Title Bout Wrestling. May Wk4 2013) Alex bounces back after barely surviving Poison the night before... but it seems like the future isn’t done with the World Champion.

Self, this is an excellent dynasty. I haven't predicted yet, but I have read this from beginning to the end. I really look forward to your updates.

The way I see it, this PPV was good:

- The Elite is kept strong by retaining their titles

- Price has a successful title defense (I always chuckle at the different special entrances you make up for him, they are a nice touch)

- We have a little more build between McClean and Johnson

- Poison vs DeColt Family moves forward

- The USS keeps going forward

You may have had better shows, but this one still delivered. One question, if you answer kayfabe-breaking questions, was Jack DeColt upset with the ending to that match? I would expect that Jack and Alex are not happy with losing to anyone and Ricky has a select few on the list who can beat him with no morale change.

Predictions:

Bobby Thomas vs Whippy The Clown

Nate Johnson vs Ricky DeColt

Pow Wow The Clown vs Trent Shaffer

Sean Deeley vs Zeus Maxmillion

John McClean vs Stevie Grayson

All of the DeColts have Creative Control clauses in their contracts, so if they don't want to lose, they won't. It limits stories, but they'll never get upset because I can't force them to lose to anyone they don't want to. Luckily, I can use notes (Keep Strong, Tainted Victory) to make certain losses appeal to them.
