CGC: On With The Show [8RoW]

Recommended Posts

Alex DeColt vs Edd Stone

- All DeColt all the time... since Jacko toppled Zeus in a truly terrible finish.

Bobby Thomas vs Sean Deeley

- Since, hey, he's a face, the patriarch is dead push the boring should-be NotBPW bound heat suck.

Christian Price vs Eddie Chandler

- Double Count Out. I like both, so both must lose.

Ricky DeColt vs Samael Bach

- All DeColt, all the time.

Plus, some general questions/predictions about the series.

Who do you THINK will win this year's Ultimate Showdown Series? Some DeColt or DeOther.

Who do you WANT to win? Anyone but a DeColt.

Who do you THINK will get banished? Shane Nelson. Face non-DeColt who has done nothing wrong but not enough right.

Who do you WANT to get banished? Sean Deeley. Personality of wilted spinach.

As you can guess I really hated the title change. Such a predictable, boring, safe choice. Does nothing for the company and only makes sense as a nod to a (fictional) dead papa story. Which doesn't work for me. Far too many other, better options than yet another DeColt.

This came off as more bitter than intended. On one hand I understand why the title went to Jack, it has been a while since a DeColt held the gold (3 different champs in that time!), on the other I felt that the god Zeus hadn't fully established his reign.

Still a great dynasty that I'm truly enjoying. I must be to get so impassioned over fictional characters.

The show is still a few days away, but I thought I’d answer some of this now, rather than let the answers get muddled in with the next show.

1) if george decolt lives, does jack decolt lose to zeus?

No. George’s passing changed the tone of the show, but not the results.

I’ve had the World Title on heels for a while now, and it’s gotten to the point where the list of interesting challengers is rather slim. Ultimately, I think it’s going to be more fun to have a babyface champion for a while. The potential challengers are more exciting to me. I say ‘potential’ because I haven’t written any of this yet. The Ultimate Showdown Series could go in so many directions.

I do feel bad about Almighty Zeus. I recognise he‘s a character with great potential, but he seems destined to be forever under-utilized. That’s on me. For whatever reason, I don’t connect with him in the same way that I do with other characters. I haven’t truly figured him out. His feud with Jack was supposed to be so much more, but the brainstorming never delivered. Even the ‘Labors of Zeus’ arc, which I loved, only had Zeus himself appear sporadically.

2) are intrepid ian identity and drake young in your dev fed, and if so, how are they doing so far?

They are indeed part of the Funtime Combat Kingdom, along with most of the DeColt Power House graduates. Former Soldier of Fortune Chance is mostly using them as job guys. They’ve probably got the skills and the size to be on TV, but they’re very young, and that’s an issue. Drake is currently part of teen idol stable ‘Kiss This’ with a few Hot Prospects with similar pictures, while Ian is under his second mask of his career as the villainous ‘Instinct’. I very much doubt either gimmick will make it to television.

I’m open to questions, open to discussion.

Have to say, I'm one of those who doesn't mind Jack winning as a tribute to his late father (I can imagine it would be an awesome feel-good moment watching it), but otherwise object to him winning the title again so soon if that was your intention all along. Not just because I think Zeus deserves a longer reign (which he does), but I also feel that it kind of undermines the entire year-long storyline of the rise of the Soothsayer's "Future" stable. All this time Bach/Soothsayer has been going on about how it's time for the Future taking over CGC from the "relics of the past", and just like that one of the "relics" win the title back.

I'm not saying the DeColts shouldn't ever win the World title again, I have been and still am a DeColt fan, but I really feel it came way too soon. Soothsayer hasn't even changed his gimmick or his tune, and the fact that he's proven completely wrong kills his mystique more than losing his mask did. If you have to end Zeus's reign this soon, it would still have made more sense to drop it to another younger/newer star.

Now, not only do the "relics" win, but the supposed "Future" has been exposed as rather lame. Joey fails the moment he loses the magic potion and gets sent packing rather unceremoniously (even if it's due to events beyond your control), and now Zeus loses clean on only his second PPV title defense. Like I said, I really feels that it undermines all the year-long build-up for the supposed Future generation. And that the sole champion that the Soothsayer now has to rely on is from that same relic's family doesn't help either.

[/rant]

Alex DeColt vs Edd Stone Much as I like Edd, I still can't vote a Stone over a DeColt

Bobby Thomas vs Sean Deeley Bobby doesn't have back-up in tis match. Deeley is the main face feuding with the stable, he has to show that he can beat any one guy from the stable so that the heel needs the numbers game against him.

Christian Price vs Eddie Chandler Price is my new 'Pow Wow' in this year's USS. I will vote him against all.

Ricky DeColt vs Samael Bach Logic tells me that mind-controlled Ricky would lay down for the master....but then again, Bach doesn't need to win the USS himself. Zeus won last year, but Bach controlled 2 of his 3 wishes. Kayfabewise, Ricky is more unstoppable than Bach with the potion, so it makes sense that Bach would lay down for Ricky because Ricky has a better chance of winning the whole thing and giving Bach control of his 3 wishes.

Plus, some general questions/predictions about the series.

Who do you THINK will win this year's Ultimate Showdown Series? Ricky DeColt

I see Ricky at least making it to the final 2. Last year the USS main story was centred around whether he could win via submission. This year should be about him fighting control of the potion. Maybe even having him free himself of the potion's control just before the finals, and the mystery would be whether he can still win the whole thing by himself (possibly a final showdown with Alex in the Finals? Can he step out of his brother's shadow without the potion's enhancement?)

Who do you WANT to win? Christian Price

Who do you THINK will get banished? Eddie Chandler

Changing the stipulations for the loser makes it more difficult to predict, since you give your wrestlers time off pretty often so I can see absolutely anyone of those 10 guys disappearing for 6 months. I was at first leaning towards Gargantuan, because he goes on vacation pretty often anyway (which I definitely agree with you that it helps to maintain his monster image by not having him compete to often), but then I realize for him to lose the series he would have to lose a lot of matches, which will kill his mystique anyway, so it kind of defeats the purpose. Most of the others have a pretty strong storyline going at the moment, so Chandler and Grayson are the only 2 who are just.....kind of there. Grayson was already one of the bottom guys last year, so I choose Chandler on the assumption that you'll not repeat the same pattern.

Who do you WANT to get banished? Sean Deeley

I don't really hate anyone on that list, but as you can tell I'm all for over-the-top gimmicks, which makes Deeley one of the least interesting guys to me. Deeley really doesn't have anything that makes him stand out to me beyond "good technician", which in itself is fine, but there's something missing. Even Warren Technique and Maverick had more distinguish features compared to him.

Eager to revenge, Deeley pounces for the arm, but Thomas uses his recklessness against him to methodically assault the leg with a barrage of stomps. Deeley fights out of the St.01 Ankle Stretch and pounces for brutal takedowns and animalistic suplexes! Seated Stretch Armbar! It’s locked in! Deeley looks around, expecting someone to interfere. No ones coming. With a smile, Deeley wrenches harder. Bobby taps!

ALEX DECOLT is hung over. Seriously hung over. Laying on the rock hard floor of his locker room like it’s the comfiest bed in the world. The room is filled with charts and graphs and diagrams on his Ultimate Showdown Series opposition... but none of the notes make any sense. The word “poopy” is used a lot. Enter EDD STONE.

EDD STONE

Wakey wakey, party animal! That was one hell of a weekend, right?

I mean, Bobby made me call it quits after Friday night, what with the

and start breaking your ankles.

Head pounding, trying not to throw up, Alex tries getting up, and is baffled to find out he’s already in his gear.

EDD STONE

Don’t worry about putting your gear on. That interview chick was more

than happy to do that for you. She’s hot, man. Congrats. I didn’t think you

swung that way. She even left you a present. You sleep for a bit. Still

two matches to go until us.

Edd leaves. Alex tries to get up, but it’s clearly not happening yet. He lays back down, and notices the ‘present’ that has been left for him; a lovely teddy bear with DeColt-yellow trunks and spiky blonde hair. Just wanting to sleep for a few more minutes, Alex hugs the bear tight... before his eyes snap open in horror and he hurls the bear as far away from him as possible.

Geared up and ready to fight, CHRISTIAN PRICE walks through the deserted backstage area, only to bump into his opponent, EDDIE CHANDLER, who is still dressed in his ludicrously luxurious pink robe.

Christian Price happily heads back to the locker room. As soon as he’s out of sight, Chandler removes his robe to reveal he’s in full gear.

Stevie Grayson “WaitaminuteChristianPriceisnothereyet. OhmygodEddieChandlertrickedhimthat’smean!”

“1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8...”

Much to Chandler’s dismay, Christian Price comes barreling down the ramp, beats the count, and the fight is on! Price overpowers the Fabulous One early, but naively falls for “look over there”. Chandler goes to work on the back and shoulders, softening Price up for submission attempts, but Price fights back with european uppercuts. Simple. Effective. Unstoppable. Price Check (TKO) is countered when Chandler attacks the weakened shoulder and locks in the Fabulous Stretch (Mutilation Double Armbar)! Price fights and struggles... and is too dumb to quit!

“One minute remaining”

Frustrated, Chandler gives up the hold, and goes for the Elitist Plex (Front Suplex) but Price boosts him into the air and knocks him out with a huge uppercut! 1... 2... 3!

Lots to think about. I’ll be honest, I thought I’d timed the Ultimate Showdown Series pretty well this year, wrapping up all the loose ends, but now there’s a big Jack & Zeus shaped hole in things.

My backstage rating has taken a bit of a hit since I sent 10 of my guys on vacation, but I’m still at 75%, so it’s not a major worry. Even with my depleted roster, I’m still struggling to get everyone I want onto the pre-show. A few rookies on PPA’s need experience, yet are on 6-month ‘cooling off’ periods after spells in FCK.

I really thought Edd was gonna at least steal a point from Alex in that main event... kinda sad he didn't now, but I've got high hopes for Edd to do well here. :D

Sean Deeley “last week i tapped out bobby thomas, and when his brotherhood partner edd stone gets back from japan i’ll tap him out too.”

Thomas only has eyes for the guest commentator, allowing Price to take control and overpower him, until a low dropkick to the knee. Thomas attacks the limb with a methodical barrage of stomps, but Price is too dumb to quit from the St.01 Ankle Stretch. Instead he powers free and unleashes thunderous european uppercuts. Simple. Effective. Unstoppable. Thomas flees outside. Price charges, but it’s sidestepped and he crashes right into Deeley on commentary.

Sean Deeley “argh. son of a... my ankle...”

Thomas is pleased at the shooter’s misfortune. Perhaps too pleased, taking his time before throwing a Super Ki- It’s ducked! Price Check (TKO)! 1... 2... 3!

EDDIE CHANDLER plays possum, faking an injury before dodging GARGANTUAN’s charge. The genetically engineered fighting machine tumbles outside, and Chandler keeps him for getting back into the ring. It’s a count out! (Eddie Chandler wins 2 points)

Delighted with his win, and seemingly just as happy to have a plush locker room all to himself for a change, EDDIE CHANDLER enjoys some fine wine (provided by his sponsors at Charmant Vineyards) and chocolate covered strawberries (provided by his sponsors at Shari’s Berries). Suddenly, GARGANTUAN bursts in and slams him against the wall.

MISSY MASTERSON

Two matches. Two losses. So are you just useless without your St.01

BOBBY THOMAS

You shut it. You don’t get to say that to me. Last year? Yeah, I sold

points, and yeah, I made a lot of money, but that was a different Bobby

Thomas. That was a guy who was so afraid of failing to reach the top

That’s not me any more. I do want to be at the top. I want my colors on

I don’t have much time left to do it. I’m 38 years old. Any day now, my

Sean Deeley “grayson has fought bach many times but has never beaten him. maybe alex decolt’s advice will help.”

Grayson tries to wrestle the soothsayer on his own terms, but Bach telegraphs the ducking and the diving and the dipping and the dodging with supernatural precognition and picks him apart. Overhead Kick! Diving Reverse DDT! Remembering Alex's advice, Stevie starts bouncing off of the ropes at impossible angles, before raking the inner thighs and practically humping Bach into the mat. Bach's confused. DaLay Down (Belly to Belly Piledriver) 1... 2.... 3!

STEVIE GRAYSON EARNS 2 POINTS (10:09)

ALEX DECOLT stares at his research into his little brother. Strengths. Weaknesses. Anything he can possibly use to his advantage. He stares so intently, that he doesn’t realize MISSY MASTERSON is behind him.

MISSY MASTERSON

So what’s our plan? How are we going to try to break the spell this time?

ALEX DECOLT

What? How long have you...? There is no ‘we’, Missy. There is no ‘our

plan’. Whatever effect I thought you’d have on Ricky, it clearly didn’t

work. Now go away. I need to concentrate.

MISSY MASTERSON

Tough. I’m the host of the the Ultimate Showdown Series. You have to

answer any question I ask. Question one... When you saved me two

weeks ago, was it because you think I’m pretty?

ALEX DECOLT

Christ on a bike... No, Missy. I saved you because Ricky was about

to rip your throat out, and I’d rather he not murder anyone while

under Bach’s spell.

MISSY MASTERSON

Don’t lie, Alex. I know there’s something between us. You’re not like

Davis Ditterich “It seems after his conversation with Missy, Alex has a new plan for dealing with this brother. Has he found a second weakness?”

Alex intelligently telegraphs his spellbound brother’s punches, and attacks the weak spot on his foot with stomps. Ricky’s hurt, but not for long. Expressionless, emotionless, he mercilessly takes his brother apart with right hands... until Alex purposely puts himself in position for Ricky to hit a Running Bulldog.

Davis Ditterich “Wait a minute, Ricky’s stopped fighting... Is this the weakness? Hitting his classic moves?”

Ricky seems to be... remembering... or struggling to... but his eyes glaze back over. Alex goes on the offensive. Powerslam! Snap Driving Elbow! Ricky keeps rising, but every time he takes control, Alex goads him into hitting a classic Ricky DeColt move, causing another flash of life in monster’s cold, dead eyes.

“One Minute Remaining”

Time ticking away, Alex goes for the DeColt Driver (Straightjacket Drop) but the monster’s still too strong, hurling his brother across the ring. Spear! Ripcord Lariat! 1... 2... 3!

Disappointing matches. I mean, they were good, but Bach/Grayson has gotten a ‘B’ before, and Thomas is the king of getting strong ratings from big lads. Perhaps the drop in backstage has hurt things (from 90% to 75%) or the venue (less than 5000 fans in the Maritimes) or the match lengths (more of an issue in the main) or maybe it’s because the storylines aren’t massively strong right now (two at B-, one at C).Guest announcers aren’t helping either. Not just quality, but that pesky experience thing. Disappointed, but definitely not panicking. As long as I get a B- it’s all good.

Good news. We turned a $286k profit this month. That jump from 74 to 75 popularity across Canada has worked wonders.

I was ill and bored over the weekend, so I decided to take a closer look at my developmental roster. This time with numbers. I got the calculator out and wrote a complex and mysterious equation (I added a few important stats together) to see who was ready for CGC television. At least in terms of the actual wrestling. I threw Jack in as a reference point, to show the top of the line in this very DeColt-friendly equation.

It's far from a surefire list of when folks will be called up. It doesn’t account for promo ability, or popularity, or size. Speaking of size, for someone who's been vocally opposed to little fella's, I sure have a lot of Lightweights on that list. 10 in fact. In most of their cases, I just took pity on young Unemployed Canadians, and thought I'd give them a chance to improve and develop and make something of themselves one day. Even if it's not with CGC.

Edd Stone (0) vs Sean Deeley (3)

- Deeley gets punished for his beyond boring commentating. Plus, I just love to root against him.

Eddie Chandler (2) vs Samael Bach (1)

- If Grayson can trump Bach using Elite moves, I predict Chandler will out Elite Grayson. If anyone knows how to bend the rules to their advantage, it's the Fabulous One.

Ricky DeColt (3) vs Stevie Grayson (2)

- Grayson surprised me last week, but I can't see him topping DeZombie.

Edd Stone (0) vs Sean Deeley (3)

Again, Deeley should be better than the individual members of the gang.

Eddie Chandler (2) vs Samael Bach (1)

Alex's new angle about helping the rest of the rosters against Bach adds new possibilities. I like that. But Bach probably won't be at the bottom for the whole stretch since that adds to the suspense, so he'll still be winning some.....

Ricky DeColt (3) vs Stevie Grayson (2)

Well, Ricky already fought Bach and Alex within the first 2 rounds, so my prediction about his storyline arc involving him as the finalist/winner looks pretty shaky now, as those 2 were my prime candidates for his final opponents....still I'm sticking to my theory that he'll be a finalist....for now.

----

One thing I've been intrigued by is Jenny Playmate's attacker. I'm wondering if there's any other possibility besides the obvious (Missy Masterson, being the one who clearly benefits fro it).
