@wilhermgras

Hey sorry for the hold-up, I will review it by tomorrow when I am fully concentrated.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Ayden

I will do the full cast for you tomorrow as well.

With the game going slower, I think I am fine handling it alone but thanks for asking.

But for now, a message from DC Comics:

- They do understand that there's not many young stars with high SP but they have a request on this. They would like you to maybe find two alternative for Boy Blue so they can compare that two alternative against Zac Efron.

- They wonder if you have any alternative for Robin Hood. They don't really like Jeremy Renner to represent Robin Hood after he's Hawkeye of Marvel.(Not a hard request, you can still use Jeremy Renner)

- Do note that cameo are more for amusement. If a character has some impact in the story of this flick, then it is a support and not cameo. Just reminding.

- Genre would be Action I guess or Fantasy. To me, story book characters on Earth is definitely fantasy.

I admit that the price can be a too high but after going on with it at the beginning, I don't think changing them now is fair so I am still going with it for now. I like the idea of starting at the bottom but I can see that not being interesting to others. Initially, the purpose is just so that talent costs something and has to be part of the consideration rather than a "sandbox" approach like the original The Movie Game, in which talent are very cheap but I guess I overdo it a little bit too much.

And all you need is a good first movie with low-level cast and you are likely able to cast a good flick. Or you can always see if any of the more established studios are willing to lend you money for your flick. I am also thinking of doing some events just to give money to players to make films but that's more of a future thing.

@General

I am thinking of adjusting the profit to get the people out of the "poor zone" faster. I am thinking of making things easier on the rating side too as I think I am being too critical on that aspect - I am a critic in a web-based game where I review players' (amateur) screenplay so I tend to be a d*** at times - just so things can be easier for the players.

While I appreciate that players are taking their time to write their movies, I am trying to figure out how to grade both short and long movies fairly just so the game is fun for any kind of players, if anyone has suggestion on this part, feel free to discuss in this thread.

Also, the trend is going to change soon.

A case could definitely be made for that. Folks are most likely going to want to use talent they actually know. Although this is in a similar vein, it isn't quite like Hollywood Mogul. More of the actual film needs to be devised than in HM. So it makes a bigger difference if you could visualize your talent in the roles you give them. I think I've devised a way to kick-start myself in that regard. But that could create a problem for some people.

And I blew off the last movie I had been going to see in the theaters, Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix, to drop in on my sister instead despite loving the material. So I don't know a lot of the faces in modern Hollywood to begin trying to cast them.

However there is a segment I know well and that leads me to jump in and try an experiment.

1) Here are some alternatives for the role of Boy Blue; Alex Pettyfer, Jack Gleeson, Chord Overstreet, Anton Yelchin. I am also happy for DC to suggest someone they'd like to see in the role and I'll consider it

2) How about James Franco for Robin Hood

3) I have edited the roles and movie type

don't tell the critics, but i had never heard of any of the people i've hired for my movie. by using google for casting i came across their names, then i checked if their age and looks were similar to what i had in mind (i didn't want to cast a 45 year old bodybuilder as an anarchist uni student in his early twenties), and if that was fine i asked for their cost.

and while the difficulty 'setting' might be high, i like it that way. makes things more of a challenge.

Make Up Your Mind

Review by: Mr.G

Make Up Your Mind revolves around three kidnappers and the kidnapped and in an interesting way. The movie starts with a long and HUGE - I know it might not be huge in size but in a movie, it's huge enough to take up that amount of screentime - talk of political issue. It's clear that the screenplay writer has a fair knowledge of politics and it's displayed well here in this film and it sets a very good starting point on the film's tone -- it's as serious as it can be. I will argue that putting a huge lecture like this one in a film is a risky move as it's not necessarily in everyone's interest to listen to that and it might directly affect the mood of the audience, be it positively or negatively.

The character's backgrounds are fed to the audience at the beginning, perhaps a little bit too much. Sometime, it's best to hold something and reveal them later into the film to provoke attention from the audience or to serve as some sort of surprise element. Well, at least it's not that bad of an approach as it explains the motive of all three characters at once.

I expect a realistic approach of the crime execution, mainly because this is a crime film, yet Hansen(Mischa Barton) is (too) easily kidnapped in the next segment of the movie. I would expect at least a montage of the three kidnappers researching their target. Marcus(Jordan Masterson) could have utilize his telemarketer background to work for(infiltrate) the company and dig information of Hansen and so on. Perhaps one of the three can be a hacker or something. It's the modern era, kidnapping isn't that easy to execute, especially the daughter of a big oil company's CEO. I kind of expect bodyguard too but I guess the lack of security can be credited as the lack of love from her brother but the movie should have been more clear on this part. It's just too easy and that's not realistic and not people want from a crime film.

I also don't really see how the police can directly disallow someone from doing ransom but I am not really a law buff so I will let that one slide. The people's support on this EDS is a little bit too over from what I see. I could see some extremist agree with their ideal but for the mass to support them seems a bit far-fetched.

The follow parts though did so well that I could care less about the problematic parts. The interaction between the four of them are so good that you just don't care about any flaws at all of that part.

The final part showdown is pretty good too although it kind of tick me off on the front part. The police are so good when it comes to bank robbery yet they cannot do anything about a kidnapping case after a few months? I don't think so in year 2013 as the high-tech operation level of police should be able to handle the kidnapping. A biopic of Patty Hearst's case will be better here since police in 1970s has a lower level of tech thus it's harder on the police side at that time. Well, back to the final part, the ending is great on its own. Hansen's speech is the highlight and it makes her character much more in-depth and cunning as she seems to be using her wit to fake a Stockholm Syndrome and eventually save herself from the kidnapping situation. Or it might be that she just finding any reason to hold her status. Lots of way to interpret it that's one of the trait of a great movie, which everyone can view it differently than others and yet be relatively correct at the end.

However, some fundamental flaws in the story and also a fairly regular performance from the cast locks this one at a 3 stars. It's still a good film overall and worthy to be seen but it doesn't hit the maximum of the idea's potential.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Misc. Information

- The marketing team did their best but the overall star power is kind of at an indie level so it's not easy to get a huge lot of attention.

- The film did get a fair bit of attention after the first week, as discussion were made in various film sites and the crime trend means a lot of people are interested in this.

- The production value is pretty high for this one, could have been slightly lower.

- A few slow scenes in this one, mostly because of the execution of Alister Grierson and that kinds of make the 135 minutes feel a little bit longer than needed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Revenue: 11,821,000

Budget: 3,000,000

----------------------------

Gross Profit: 8,821,000

Post-release: 700,000

7% bonus: 617,470

----------------------------

Net Profit: 7,503,530

Grassroots Studios' budget = $3,000,000 + $7,503,530 = $10,503,530

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Impact

- Mischa Barton gets the highest attention out of this film and her SP increased from 0.85 to 1.10.

- Dev Pavel upstages the other male lead in this one, earning him a good boost of 0.25. His new SP is now 1.25.

- The other two leads still gains a little since it's a successful movie. Both of them get a 0.10 boost.

- Alister Grierson did a very average job actually but it's still above the expectation that everyone has given him and that gives him a fair boost of 0.20. His new SP is 1.10.

You can start with high level talent instantly here. I implemented the post-release payday and non-cash deal for those occasion. Dakydaky has been using big talents since his first film and he's doing well. You will not earn as much from using huge talents at the beginning but it's doable as long as your movie receive fair rating. Of course, one might not earn money as fast with big talents but it's still very doable.

You can do five films with big talents in them and earn a fair share with everyone of them or shoot for maybe 1-2 films of lower rank talent to boost the initial capital, then start throwing tons of talent into the future films. Both paths lead to success.

thanks for the review. i think you´ve changed the wrong budget though (my studio´s details can be found on page 16).

My bad, it's a typo. I will update the sheet later.

Fable: The Last Castle

DC thinks that Zac Efron is likely the correct choice and they are okay with the lower star power of the main star since the movie is backed up by a huge cast. You could still talk to the others if you want to.

DC wants to understand any reason you are making this NC-17 as NC-17 film typically don't make a lot of money and that's a huge concern to DC. OOC: I am unfamilar with the Fables comic book series. How's the tone of the series, dark and gritty?

Zac Efron(1.10 SP)

- He will take the role for 700,000.

- He would like 5% of the sequel(none for now).

Isla Fisher(2.05 SP)

- She isn't that fond of nudity to be frank and wonder if you can lower it to partial nudity at best.

- She will based her price on the feedback of said request.

Cliff Curtis(1.00 SP)

- He would take 800,000.

Ethan Hawke(2.00 SP)

- He wants 1,200,000.

James Franco(2.20 SP)

- He wonders if you can work Robin Hood into future sequels.

- He will base his price on the feedback.

Eliza Dushku(1.50 SP)

- I think she dyed her hair blonde this year so that's done.

- She will go for 1,150,000.

Aaron Paul(1.25 SP)

- He's happy to get movie role and a possible future role too so he's fine taking just 325,000 for this one.

Ryan Gosling(2.40 SP)

- He will take 960,000.

- He will work for 520,000 if you can give him a main lead role in your next 6 films.

Eric Stonestreet(1.30 SP)

- He's happy that you are fulfilling the deal so he will take 500,000 for this one.

Ty Burrell(1.15 SP)

- He will take 550,000.

Natalie Portman(3.05 SP)

- There's big future role, so she is fine taking 750,000 for this one.

Gene Hackman is retired so you need another talent. He doesn't feel like returning to the industry for a minor role.

Bradley Cooper(2.75 SP)

- He will take 50,000.

Brooklyn Decker(0.80 SP)

- She will just take 3,000 as there's a future role.

DC doesn't seem too happy with Jon Favreau as the director as he's the executive producer of The Avengers and also directed the first two Iron Man while being the executive producer for all three. He wonders if you have any alternative. They acknowledged his works too, it's definitely contradicting and they want your input.

On my definition, huge support are considered as "second lead" so the main support are given the second lead price. You can adjust again to move some to support as you see fit and I can re-price.

Tips: Try to work for some post-release payment.

Lowest Count so far:

Pre-release: 6,223,000

Racing Hearts

I actually plan to remove adaptor from studio bonus as I feel it's unworthy as it is. Since you are interested in it, it will stay.

Your movie can have a maximum of two main genres. Animation is a genre here. So you need to choose one more from Fantasy(I consider Mythic a sub-genre of fantasy, just so keep the number of genres reasonable) or Romance.

I will give you the price for the cast later. I am just having a hard time figuring out their SP.

Adaptor struck me for two reasons. The fact it had been neglected so far and the fact I intend to attempt the franchise game once I get grounded and already have two key properties locked in on that I don't expect to any of the other players to have on their radar. Plus the potential to do mythology movies like this one means that adaptation bonus should come in handy.

Let's go Romance for the second genre. I'd be shooting more for a female audience with Atalanta's story. I have other properties in mind for later which would benefit more from the Fantasy classification.

And considering the subset of talent I'm drawing from, I'm not surprised by the SP issue. I went this route specifically because I wanted to see how you'd handle it.

Sounds about right. A lot of animated films these days, especially the big ones seem to want to use the big name actors and mine that name value even though the target audience couldn't care less. It's one of my frustrations with animated film. A Brad Pitt or a Cameron Diaz doesn't have nearly as distinctive or recognizable a voice as say a Gilbert Gottfried or Fran Drescher. Even if they are far bigger stars. So they typically go to waste in the animated movie experience. Although Diaz has always done a solid job as Fiona in the Shrek franchise.
Fables: The Last Castle

Zac Efron(1.10 SP)

- It's more of a future security but if you want him to take lower money for now too. He

would like 550,000 pre-release + 2% for this movie + 5% for the sequel.

Anna Paquin(1.75 SP)

- She's fine with all the requests, red hair and nudity, no problem.

- With that said, she will go for 1,400,000 + 2% on this one + 3% for sequel.

Cliff Curtis(1.00 SP)

- He considers and he would like 400,000 pre + 250,000 post.

Ethan Hawke(2.00 SP)

- 800,000 + future role is a deal.

James Franco(2.20 SP)

- What about 900,000 + (at least) a second lead role in 1 of your next 6 movies?

Casey Affleck(2.15 SP)

- He will give you his price after the talk with Ben Affleck.

Eliza Dushku(1.50 SP)

- She will take 900,000: 600,000 pre + 300,000 post.

Aaron Paul(1.25 SP)

- He will lower his offer to 210,000.

Ryan Gosling(2.40 SP)

- He feels that getting some money upfront is needed to maintain his star status(as in he

doesn't want to feel like he is easily pleased and manipulated) so he would like a 300,000

pre + 200,000 post split if possible and it's a deal if you accept.

Eric Stonestreet(1.30 SP)

- He's happy with the 250,000 pre + 250,000 post offer and has tried to talk Ty Burrell to

do the same.

Ty Burrell(1.15 SP)

- Despite the talk with Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell would like a little bit more if he

was to split: 275,000 pre + 325,000 post.

Natalie Portman(3.05 SP)

- She will be fine with 600,000 if you can give her better trailer and treatment than

other supports. The better treatment thing will cost you 50,000.

John Malkovich(2.80 SP)

- He's actually interested in joining the producer team if you allow it. He will do this for 780,000 + 2% if you agree.

Christopher Walken(2.50 SP)

- He would like 1,125,000.

Ben Affleck(3.80 SP)

- He's very interested in coming back to a comic book adaptation, to clear away his image as Daredevil.

- He will not lower his price but Casey Affleck will if he's in the team.

- He would like to be given an on-screen role in sequel if possible, doesn't have to be an important character, just a character.

- He would like 3,150,000 + 11%. He will be fine with 650,000 upfront.

Current deals:

Pre-release: 6,815,000

Post-release: 3,875,000 + 17%

------------

Sequel: 8%

- I excluded James Franco from the total since Casey Affleck is pending.

- The Natalie Portman's "better treatment" cost is included in post-release.

- John Malkovich is the lower against Christopher Walken so I use that on the total.

Title: Checkmate

Rating: G

Genre: Drama

Brief summary of the movie: A child chess prodigy is working his way towards challenging for the world championship title. A tale about discipline, perseverence, failure, and success.

Amount you plan to spend on production: 350.000

Amount you plan to spend on marketing: 250.000

Actors:

Main Lead: Jared Gilmore (the prodigy, no nudity, no perks)

Second Lead: Dev Patel (the coach of the prodigy, no nudity, no perks)

(Large) Support: Edward Norton (the father of the prodigy, no nudity, no perks)

(Small) Support: Rade Serbedzija (his most prominent opponent, no nudity, no perks)

Cameo: Magnus Carlsen (no nudity, no perks)

Cameo: Hikaru Nakamura (no nudity, no perks)

Director: John Oliver (no perks)

I don't know if the two cameo's should have been added to the list as they aren't actors (look them up on wiki, i'm not allowed to psot links here). However, as this is a movie about chess, it would feel right to include them.

Fables: The Lost Castle

Zac Efron(1.10 SP)

- I assume you means 700,000: 300,000 pre + 400,000 post. 5% for sequel, none for now.

- He would like to switch it a little bit: 400,000 pre + 300,000 post. 6% for sequel.

Anna Paquin(1.75 SP)

- Her new offer is 1,250,000: 1,000,000 pre + 250,000 post + 2.5% on this one + 3% for sequel.

James Franco(2.20 SP)

- He would take the 850,000 with 500,000 post-release.

- The second lead role promise is still there.

Casey Affleck(2.15 SP)

- He doesn't understand the difference between him dropping price vs Ben dropping price but alright.

Aaron Paul(1.25 SP)

- He realize tons of big stars are taking splits so he has no objection on it.

John Malkovich(2.80 SP)

- It might give the project a positive boost or a negative. Events can happen and you never know what events will them be. *eye blinks*

- Deal on the proposal.

Checkmate

Jared Gilmore(0.75 SP)

- He will do it for 750,000

Dev Patel(1.25 SP)

- He is happy to work with you again. He will go for 937,500 for this one.

Edward Norton(2.20 SP)

- He will work for 1,540,000 OR 1,000,000 if you can give him at least a second lead role in your next 5.

Rade Serbedzija(0.70 SP)

- He will take 350,000

Magnus Carlsen

- He would like 10,000.

Hikaru Nakamura

- He would like 10,000.

John Oliver(0.90 SP)

- He will take 810,000 + 8%.

Total:

Pre-release: 3,867,500

Post-release: 8%

I don't think they need to be added to the list either. I assume you want to make them the opponents of Jared Gilmore.

I would put large support as second lead. I thought of splitting the 3 categories into 4 but then I realize it will screwed up the movie history page so I didn't. The reason why I use "Second lead" to categorize the (obviously) second lead and also the more important supports is that support is kind of a vague term, as sometime they put the important characters into support category(like putting Jamie Foxx into the supporting actor category for Oscar while he's probably the second lead there) so I decided to just have second lead cover the important-but-not-too-important characters while support cover the non-significant characters of a story.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Award(a.k.a. Oscar, but we won't call it Oscar)

Initially, I plan to do host an award every 4 weeks(which in my mind, is 1 in-game year). Every player will be given the right to nominate and vote to determine the winner of said award.

Do you all think we have enough movies to do an award, or would you all prefer to hold it till a later date?

Checkmate

Jared Gilmore(0.75 SP)

- He doesn't see why he would lower his price for a sequel that might or might not be made. Also, his agent is well-aware of the extra funding from the government for a children-friendly movie and this is definitely one. With the current cast, they are pretty sure you have enough money to cover the 750,000 so they are not dropping it.

Dev Patel(1.25 SP)

- He's fine with the sequel offer but he would like 837,500 to go with it instead of the 750,000 you proposed.

Edward Norton(2.20 SP)

- At least a second lead means that you need to put him as the main lead OR the second lead but NOT the support to fuifill the condition, in any of your next 5 film.

Rade Serbedzija(0.70 SP)

- How about 300,000?

John Oliver(0.90 SP)

- 777,000 + 7%?

Jared Gilmore: well, he's very up to date when it comes to funding for this movie. does he also know i don't like to overpay for my talent? i'll keep his offer in mind, and i'll get back to him when i know about the cost of the rest of the cast. in the mean time, can i have the cost of mason cook as a back-up?

Dev Patel: See, this is exactly what i'm talking about. deal!

Edward Norton: I understand his view of being the second lead in the next movie. However, I didn't get whether the fee you named for this movie was based on the assumption he'll be support, or second lead (as i had put '(large) support' in my original description of the role).

Rade Serbedzija: Deal

John Oliver: Deal

Ladies and Gentleman.......We At Amalgamated Artists Proudly Present to you....

RACING HEARTS

Lead Actress- Ashleigh Ball

Lead Actor- Sam Vincent

Supporting Actor- Maurice LaMarche

Supporting Actress- Tabitha St. Germain

Director - Lauren Faust

Genre- Animated/Romance

The movie opens with an establishing shot of a busy, ancient village and the caption "Greece: Several Thousand BC". The opening credits roll as the scene pans through village. Various citizens mill around the city streets going about their daily business as the camera approaches the house of Schoeneus. Going inside we find the lady of the house with a midwife deep in the throes of childbirth while Schoeneus (Maurice LaMarche) prays demandingly to the gods. Schoeneus it seems is a devout chauvinist and has already assumed the child he is to be graced with is a son. So he's on his knees trying essentially to bully Olympus into favoring the "bold champion" just entering the world.

The high pitched scream of a baby is heard and the midwife enters the prayer room. "Congratulations" she tells him, "you're the proud father of a bouncing baby girl. Mother and daughter are both doing well. You may go in and see them now." Schoeneus groans under his breath at the thought of all his dreams for his child crumbling in a mass of femininity. He flashes the midwife a plastic smile and goes into the bedroom where his wife is in bed cradling the new baby girl. He sees her cooing at the baby and playing kitchy kitchy koo and all the love she has for the child. Much as he wishes he could, he can't get rid of his daughter right away. He'd never be able to pry her out of the arms of such a doting mother. The child is named Atalanta and so begins his journey as a parent.

A journey Schoeneus is determined to make as brief as possible. Daughters are weak and useless. He rages about being cursed by the gods to any and all who will listen to him. Until one day when he can take no more and orders his servants to take her out to the surrounding mountains and leave her to die in the wilderness. An order they fulfill in spite of their own better judgment.

But this despicable behavior has not gone unnoticed on Olympus. As the servants head back down the mountain, we hear a voice over of goddess Aphrodite (Tabitha St. Germain) pleading Atalanta's case with the other gods. She rages against Schoeneus' cold hearted actions declaring it an affront to parental love. The little girl needs to live to teach the heartless jerk a lesson. So the gods provide a she-bear to take her in and nurture her through infancy.

Eventually she is discovered by a band of hunters. They teach Atalanta (Ashleigh Ball) to speak and they teach her their ways. They harden her making her rugged and fleet of foot. And most galling to Aphrodite, they teach Atalanta to worship their favored goddess, Diana, rather than her. The goddess who'd pleaded for Atalanta's very life.

But while with the hunters, Atalanta not only becomes strong and fast but her womanly charms develop and grows into great beauty. She returns home to the village of her birth and moves back in with her father. Her mother having died years before. At first things go well. She becomes a top athlete. Winning many races and defeating many great wrestlers including the mighty Peleus.

But the relationship becomes combative. Schoeneus' chauvinism lives on and he is determined to marry her off. But being a follower of Diana and valuing her singlehood, Atalanta isn't interested. Until during a particularly nasty row when a fateful idea forms in her head. She will consent to marry. But any man who would win her hand must win a race and win her with his feet. And if he couldn't he was to be put to death.

Despite the stakes, many men try and many men fail. So once again Schoeneus rages at his daughter. How could she do this to her village? She's squandering the lives of many great young men. Young men who could have been heroes in battle were the village ever threatened. And for what? Some sick game she makes of marriage.

But Schoeneus isn't the only one baffled by this. Amongst the spectators for the races is young Milanion (Sam Vincent). Milanion can't believe so many young men are stupid enough to take Atalanta's challenge. He mocks the contenders for throwing their lives away. She has beaten every one and they've all met their final fate. Why take the risk?

Then he sees her approach the starting line for the latest race and he takes in her full beauty. He's overwhelmed and as the losing contender is lead away to his doom after her latest victory, he declares his intention on racing Atalanta for her heart. His friends are in shock. They argue with him vehemently about his hypocrisy. But what nobody notices is that he's earned a very important admirer. His future opponent, Atalanta.

Much as it scares her to admit, there's a great deal to love about this Milanion. He's brave, he's confident and he's the most handsome young man she's ever seen. And though she won't tell anyone made of flesh and blood, she reveals in prayer to Diana that she's tiring of the deadly scheme she put in motion.

Meanwhile, Milanion is visited by the goddess Aphrodite. She tells him he shall have the woman he desires. Atalanta has greatly disappointed the goddess of love and his victory would be a great lesson to her. She knows how he can win her hand. He just needs to do what she tells him.

The day of the big race comes. And for a while the race is very close. First Milanion leading, then Atalanta. Then Milanion. A real back and forth affair. At the halfway point, he's slightly ahead but Atalanta's coming on strong. So he decides it's time to put Aphrodite's plan in action. He pitches a shiny red apple in Atalanta's path. Causing Atalanta to slow down and pick it up before chasing back after him. Seeing that the first apple didn't slow her enough. He pitches a second apple in her way. Then eventually a third. Atalanta chasing these apples and stashing them in her tunic as she races after Milanion.

But Aphrodite has the last laugh. She causes the apples to become heavier and heavier as Atalanta runs with them in her tunic. Thereby allowing Milanion to win the race. Victorious, Milanion is busy whooping it up praising Aphrodite for her grace as a breathless Atalanta crosses the finish line.

She stumbles over to Milanion and congratulates him with a tight embrace. She finally reveals how much she had tired of the deadly stakes of the race and how happy she is that he won. He is the most impressive young man she's ever seen and she's been dreaming of being his bride.

Cut to the exterior of the village temple. Wedding bells ring and celebrants flood out. The newly wed Milanion and Atalanta emerge as the merry makers throw rice at them as they walk down the temple steps. Schoeneus approaches the couple and welcomes Milanion to the family. It would truly take a great champion to win his daughter. Man and wife turn toward each other and kiss deeply as a heart frames their faces and we fade out.
