Hall of Fame 2013 Nomination Phase

Recommended Posts

This is taken from last year's Hall of Fame process. Everything seemed to have gone well last year so I thought I would do it again this year.

Alright, so this is going to go in two parts. The Nomination phase and the Voting phase. The Voting phase is going to come later so I'll explain that part when we get there. The Nomination phase goes like this:

1. Each person gets 3 choices for Nomination to be placed in my pm box. Only those sent to my pm box will be counted.

2. Each choice gets 1 point per Nomination

3. Self-Nomination IS allowed in this phase but not in the next phase.

4. Those who are already in the Hall of Fame get double the points for being in the Hall of Fame, so instead of 1 point per Nomination, they get 2 points per Nomination.

5. Top ten in points move on to the Voting phase.

6. Feel free to post publicly in this thread who your nominations are and why people should vote for them.

7. Anyone who has run a diary is eligible.

8. Hall of Famers already are as follows: Monkeypox, Scapino1974, Tristram, Adam Ryland, Nevermore, Tigerkinney, KeefMoon, J Silver, James Casey, BigPapa42, Marcel Fromage, Reaper, Dragonmack, Eisen-verse, Self, Phantom Stranger, jhd1, The Final Countdown, angeldelayette and NoNeck.

9. Any further questions, feel free to ask on this thread or in my pm box.

10. This will run for one month, until October 11 at 12 Noon PST.

11. This is the Hall of Fame for diary writers.

I've picked my nominations. Maybe everyone thinks like this but I was very suprised to see the first nomination, so to be up near the top of the initial stage is crazy to me <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

However, it is done to give a 'thank you' to those who are already in the Hall of Fame. Generally speaking, it is not the extra points that will give someone their spot in the Hall of Fame. You are entitled to your opinion, of course.

Once again as with every time you and I do our little Lincoln/Douglas debate, this will be my last post on the topic. Feel free to respond or don't it is up to you.

This is the first one in a while where I didn't vote early.

I haven't sat down to figure it out yet, in fact. Why is it that any time someone says something against the status quo on this site, you get defensive? Did I say/imply that the post had to do anything about you?

There answer is no, never once did I mention your name and I was not thinking of anyone when I posted my last post.

Therefore, there is no reason for you to be offended by any perceived implication. You might vote on the quality of a diary but you cannot speak for anyone but yourself, so you have no idea how or why other people vote the way they do. I understand that the votes in this round do not have an actual effect on who does or does not get in. However, it does help decide who makes the cut.

I am not saying this for me because I know I will never get in (I am an average writer at best.) and really I do not care if I do or do not. I am saying this because for someone like Oldschool (Who I am using as an example) might never even make the cut because he does not have the right people reading his diary. If he had two or more hall of famers nominating him he would have four or more votes right there. While if he had just two non-hall of famers he would end up with well two votes and that might not even be enough for him to make the cut to get to the final vote.

It is funny but I remember a couple of years ago when I believe it was Rathen4, who said he felt as if there was an “old boys” sort of vibe in the diary section and everyone got offended by him saying that. However, the rule I pointed out does support Rathen’s view. As with everything else in life, it is all about who you know.

Neither lot got them in. For the record, Oldschool is one of them - I've loved his work since a 'rebuild the NWA' diary that never got past roster selection but didn't need to to be awesome.

It is funny but I remember a couple of years ago when I believe it was Rathen4, who said he felt as if there was an “old boys” sort of vibe in the diary section and everyone got offended by him saying that. That's why the top diaries every week are Bigpapa's, Tigerkinney's, Dragonmack's, and mine... no, hang on, you say only two of us are posting? Huh.

OK. So it's why since returning to the diary game I've split the DOTM victories with Tigerkinney and angeldelayette... no, hang on, you say I'm yet to win since my return, and the people who're winning started well after me?

Wow, there must be a NEW old boys club.

I wonder how our pre-existing clique didn't shut that down?

Well, probably the same reason the pre-existing clique didn't shut me down when I started getting popular, or Self, or James Casey, or Eisen-Verse. Or codey. Or smwilliams. Or 3rdStringPG. It's why michgcs' long-running real world diary has been supported, why Voeltzwagen has a steady readership.

Looking at the list of people I name up there, incidentally, I've had PM chats with JC, E-V, and Bigpapa. I've asked Self for a render, and when I did a merch thread Tigerkinney requested stuff through me. (I should totally get back to that.) I've probably messaged Dragonmack at some other point, but that's about it. Outside of the HoF stuff I don't think I've messaged angeldelayette, for that matter.

The last six names on PMs in my inbox are from aspiring writers wanting tips. All of them got them - all of those names, in fact, appear multiple times as we talked about it.

This is an organically changing forum, BHK. The perceived old guard are perceived as the old guard because we're active, have high post counts, and have left long threads behind.

You are, in fact, one of the old guard. Here's your union card if you didn't already have it.

BHK, I call you out on this stuff because what you say and the few facts we can collate - view rates, messages from older writers in newer writers' threads, DOTM votes and nominations, etc - clash. I call you out whenever there's another big awards thread, because you do this every awards thread. The Lincoln-Douglas harangue doesn't really factor in here; you say something about this stuff, and I present the alternative case.

One of us backs it up with facts, and if you came into one of these and presented facts supporting your point of view, I'd back you. And not just because you're the old guard and we have to stick together.

...

Oh, yeah. One last thing.

The Hall of Fame IS kind of an elitist concept in the first place. Any award that's not a participation award is. But, as with the DOTY awards, it's also a chance to remind folks of the stuff they've missed.

Last DOTY I called upon you to help do that and I did my part. I'm calling on you to do the same here; remind people. Rabble rouse.

And for the love of Pete, don't keep claiming the HoF vote our friends in unless, if someone calls you on that, you're not going to back down.
